We're marking World Monkey Day with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite fragrance for monkey business, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I will always hear Inspector Clouseau saying “minkey” in the original Pink Panther movie.
So delicious to sit and sip coffee after a week of painful commutes.
I have been wearing By the Fireplace from a travel spray all week long, just a bit due to hives. Hives are better and I decided last night driving home that this fragrance is easy to wear and love year round not just cooler weather.
I may get with gift card for Nordstrom after the holidays
So glad your hives are better.
Goodness, I hope the hives aren’t from the perfume…? Glad they’re better…!
Hives that came from hair dye, fragrance or Botox would be a disaster!
Lol – loved that original Pink Panther movie.
I had serious trouble with hives for awhile and they couldn’t find what set it off. It seemed to somehow be related to hormones in my case as it all happened around perimenopause and menopause and I have been fine now for a couple of years. The worst part for me was worrying that they would never stop and might continue to get worse. Instead, it got better. (Hope that’s helpful and not TMI.)
not TMI springpansy!
Yes’ I occasionally have trouble with hives too, due to menopause. Just need to be judicious about where I spray at those times. Usually arms are okay.
Ha! We call monkeys “minkies” (big Peter Sellers fans).
Sorry about the hives, but glad they’re getting better!
We watched Revenge of the Pink Panther recently…almost died laughing. Hugely politically incorrect in every possible way, but boy was Peter Sellers a funny man.
Good to hear that your hives are getting better. Autoimmune reactions can be utterly miserable to deal with.
I’m in Nanadebary Bronze this morning – fourth wearing this week. I’m actually surprised by how much I like it. I mean, I knew I enjoyed the sample, and I sprang for a FB because I knew I’d wear it enough to justify owning 50 mls, but I had no idea it would take such hold. Nice when it goes that way.
Oh, yes it is!
Thank you for posting about Bronze. I have a bottle that I rarely wear and should now remember to wear it soon.
Happy Weekend! I’m in my old friend SmellBent Smoked Ambergris.
Getting ready for some cooler weather that’s supposed to roll in tomorrow with highs on 40’s! Better dig out my ? and ?!
Stay warm Deva…
Today the weather is so wonky here…55F and I hardly needed a jacket for my walk to the farmer market this morning..
It’s been in the 60’s here, and just gorgeous, but I’m okay with cooler weather as long as it’s not in the minus category ?
Though must seem mild compared to the deep freeze you just left!
Downright BALMY! ?
Favorite fragrance for ? business on Me Marzipan is First Cut. It’s glorious with his skin chemistry.
For me? He says Incense Pure smells sexy on me.
Both bottles live in our bedroom ??
That would be Mister Marzipan…not Me!!!
??
Autocorrect doesn’t like me ?
But we ❤ you!?
I loved ya right back ?????
Damn!!! I typed in love!!! NOT “loved” (past tense)
I liked Me Marzipan, made it clear there was more than one Marzipan.
??
You are a great-smelling couple. 🙂
Thank you, my friend.
And I should also add thanks to you! Shine those two enabler pins that you earned for alerting me to the discounted First Cut that I bought for him for Christmas and then birthday. Two bottles should last a while ?
I thought it was Caron Pour Un Gimme that meant frisky business ???
Ah yes!! Thanks for the reminder!! That one too!!! Which also lives in our bedroom… that’s a 200 ml bottle which is about 2/3 full.
Must be something about lavender as First Cut is also chock full of lavender. It’s very hard for me to find a fragrance that Mr Marzipan is willing to wear but he actually really likes those two on himself.
Hysterical H!!!
I see that your Autocorrect is up to no good again CM8!
As always lol ?
If my boyfriend Would wear scent for me…. He owns none und refuses to wear perfume…?
I had a lover years ago who wore Aramis Devin, und smelled so goooood…
It’s taken me a long by time to get him to wear something for me ?
I love Devin….
Devin was a good one.
I guess I’m on a vanilla jag this week. AT Vanilla Flash over Wowilla oil after the shower.
We have wonderful weather today, clear and 68 degrees. I really enjoyed my walk this morning, and I’m off to the gym!
Work out for me, I never have time on the weekends.
First time getting to the gym in a little over a week. I needed it! I’ve been a grump.
Oh my but clear weather and 68…that is enough to make me run away from home.
I’ve got my stick and kerchief ready to join you!
Hey lillyjo – I wondered is there a word for that thing, that pouch on a stick that hobos carry? Wikipedia says it is called a bindle. These days it looks like something you’d see on a beardy-hipster-dude. ?
As a kid, I think they were just refered to as hobo sticks. Lol, I wasn’t sure if anyone would get my post!
I am old! I got it! need room in your bindle for some perfume.
I’d settle for clear weather! It’s been so cloudy and gloomy where I am at lately. Missing the bright shiny thing in the sky.
Decorating gingerbread cookies today as I waft my sotd, Cierge de Lune.
I’m only working until next Friday so I think it will be pretty intense at work before Christmas. But I’m so looking forward to my 2 weeks leave.
You smell wonderful.
Thank you.
We’re leave twins although I am actually on call except when I’m in Mexico City for 6 days.
Travelling before Christmas break?
Enjoy your time off! And your cookie, too! ?
Thank you! I’m sure I will.
Gingerbread cookies are so delicious when homemade. ?
And each looks different because of the decorations.
Hello all and happy weekend!
I’m wearing Portrait of a Lady layered over the eponymous body oil.
A bit over the top for a day spent cooking and cleaning, but why not?
In other news, you may have heard me mention a recent blind purchase of Bengale Rouge (could not resist the temptation and when the 15% off coupon came along, it was a done deal?).
Well, it did not work out as well as expected, so I am offering to split 25 mLs at this time. Anyone interested can contact me at arzeznik in the land of comcast with a dot and a net for more details.
I tried Bengale Rouge about a month ago at Twisted Lily and it didn’t work for me either. Didn’t smell bad, just not my thing, and exceeded my sweetness tolerance. It smelled very familiar and was hard to put my finger on what, but settled on a mashup of Shalimar/Cinnabar/Opium.
I also thought there was something familiar about Bengale Rouge. I came up with Snickerdoodle cookies, though.
I agree with the resemblance to Shalimar/Opium (don’t know or don’t remember if I’ve ever smelled Cinnabar) which is great if you like those. I just never did get along with Shalimar. Oh, well..
I like BR more than I first thought I would, and I definitely get a lot of cinnamon in it. I haven’t smelled Cinnabar in years, but I’m thinking maybe I should get my nose on it soon.
This is very late, but I’ll be emailing you about your BR split!
Goodness me, I am here early – there are only seven comments as I start to write this! I was excited to try some of the new Lubin Aristia collection. They were all quite nice, with a Middle Eastern feel, but more than a little expensive. Our local perfumery isn’t big, but they do get some unusual things.
I can still smell the last of my perfume from last night, Rose Malaki by Swiss Arabian. It was my impulse buy souvenir from Dubai. I realise I must have written this at least once before, because Google offered me the right words to use! That might be quite helpful as I get older and keep telling the same stories, assuming I follow in the footsteps of my elderly relatives 🙂
Up early this morning, whipped up french toast with maple syrup, then went back to bed for a wonderful post-breakfast nap with the puppy. Hit up the Bath & Body Works for their $4.95 body care sale, took the dog for a walk, and it’s still only 10:30am! I’m on a roll. Wearing Hermès Agar Ébène.
Yum!!! Breakfast cousin! We stopped at IHOP after picking up the mini from University and I had canoli pancakes!!! Lord were they delicious!! And I ate the entire plate!!
Your morning with your baby sounds idyllic!!! Love puppy/ kitty naps!!!
Omg! What a great morning! Especially going back to bed with the four legged snuggle bunny! ?
Pass me some of that breakfast…
And the puppy, too…
Going back to bed after breakfast twins!
Love Agar Ebene. Probably only Hermessence that was worth it for me.
Impressed! I’m useless before 10:30.
Forgot to report my SOTD
Was up at three AM so tested four 4160 Tuesdays. Home now from seven hour drive and tested four more. Post shower will test four more and then tonight four more. The 4160 line is fun and quirky but I am happy to report that I don’t need any in full bottles !!!!!
I found a few I liked enough to buy, but there.s a lot of quirky in that line.
Now I am curious as to which ones you bought? My guess is one of them is Captured by Candlelight?
Over the Chocolate Shop, Eau My Soul, Clouds and Midnight in the Palace Garden – plus the Captured by Candlelight.
Over the Chocolate Shop is yummy ?!!!!
I am in No 19 Poudre today. I started off in 1957 but it didn’t fit my mood today.
What is ya’ll favorite Chanel?
We have a guests coming tomorrow, one set in the morning and one set in the afternoon. Tis the season.
I received my first holiday gift, since I love books and tea, one of my friends sent me a sample of Simpson & Vail Literary Teas, for instance right now I am drinking Shakespeare and from the website :
Gardens, herbs, and flowers appear in many of Shakespeare’s plays and oftentimes play a critical role in his stories. This black tea and floral blend brews to an amber cup with a sweet, floral taste. The slightly earthy and woodsy notes are rounded out with the citrus taste of bergamot and sweet rose petals. “
Favorite Chanel is No. 19, in any concentration. And those teas sound fun!
I am going to put on a few drops of No 19 , it blends well with this flanker I have on..
My favorite from Chanel is still Coco.
Sycomore is my favorite until I put on original Coco. Then Coco is my favorite until I put on BoE. It never ends…
?
Coco is my favorite also, because it’s truly beautiful but also because my mom wore it. ❤️
it is beautiful. My mom loved Arpege, Tabu and Shalimar. later on she loved Halston.
Your mom had lovely taste. ❤️
Coco has lots of fans!
It’s winter magic. Vintage being the best of course, but the current version is still beautiful.
Cristalle EDT ?
I have a special place in my heart for Cristalle , it was one of my first fragrances
Fave Chanel would be Boy, Allure Homme Edition Blanche and Paris-Deauville.
Putting those on my list to try
Not sure I have an absolute favorite, but I like No 5 edt and edp (modern versions), no 22, Bel Respiro, Edp Jersey, Edp Sycamore, Egoiste, and I’m really enjoying Paris-Riviera and nearly ready to thunk my decant. I have a larger decant coming my way from the Bay ?
Fave Chanel is Eau Premiere.
Read the NYT review of Infused: Adventures in Tea, which had me scampering over to the Rare Tea Co site. The threshhold for free shipping wasn’t high, so I ordered Huntington hand-rolled, Cloud Tea and Lost Malawi single origin. Looking forward!
Hmmmmmmm. Right now, I would say that my favorite Chanels are No. 19 EdT, Egoiste, and Coromandel EdT. Ask me another time, and those answers might change, though. ?
No. 19 is firmly in first place, but a close second is Coromandel.
Coromandel, 31 Rue Cambon, Misia, Coco and Coco Noir are the ones I liked enough to buy.
I have you smelled the coco noir body cream? Its delicious!
I have that and the parfum, which is a bit different than the EDP
Yes, I’ve smelled both – the body cream and the parfum are the best forms of Coco Noir.
No.19 EdP then No.19 Poudre
EdP, No.22 EdT .
My favs from Chanel are Cuir de Russie and Sycomore.
Today, I’m in the perfume oil Golden Sand by Toronto outfit Zoha Aroma. It’s made me reconsider my position on vanilla scents because it’s that good. A little lemon up top, then some smooth, not-too-sweet vanilla, caramel, and maybe a smidge of amber. I don’t even know who I am anymore because I never imagined I’d do an about-face on vanilla. Best $17 bucks I’ve spent in a long while.
I’ve had that happen with different notes I thought I really didn’t like. But, I’ve managed to find a couple of perfumes that feature those notes prominently that I love, so I think it just has to be the right iteration of that note.
And maybe the right price and the right mood! $17 is a great deal.
Showered and lotioned with Muddled Plum. Promptly forgot that by the time I dressed. So, I sprayed on Angel Muse. I think the MP is winning, oddly enough. I’m a gourmand bomb.
I want colder weather. Don’t like this foggy 50s stuff.
I had to share a photo my sister sent… https://www.instagram.com/p/B6EKME-Jrex/?igshid=1r60brml8nojq
Omg, so cute! How did the tree not get knocked over!
Little kitten. Heavy fake tree.
LizzieB, that is too fun – currently winning the prize for the most interesting cat in the world.
Great photo!!!
Oh that is just hysterical.
I will gladly send you my cold weather ?
And I will throw in the snow and sleet for good measure ?
And take my freezing drizzle that I have atm.. please!
Snow…yes, please. Sleet….yeah, no….
so cute!!
Omg! Is that for real? Looks photoshopped, lol. Too cute ?
It’s super cute, but I’m thinking photoshopped, also.
I’m so out of this millennium that I didn’t even think Photoshop! LOL
LOL. I don’t think my sister is expert enough at photoshop. Kitty has been up in the tree numerous times since it went up. She’s also been in the table centerpiece and a bowl in the kitchen counter.
Lol! Which is why we don’t bother!
ZOMG! Such an adorable picture! What a sweet little face! ?
Purr-fect! ?
This morning, my family and my brothers family went for a Christmas breakfast with our 2 dear aunt’s, they are both in their late 80’s. They are the last of the elders of the family, and are so so special to me. I took a nap when we got home, because I’m about to go to work and be there until stupid midnight. We are supposed to wear ugly Christmas sweaters, but I do not have one, and am not going to buy one, even though my boss suggested it. I suppose I am a scrooge. I will wear Coco, because ltsg reminded me how much I love it.
You will be the best smelling “scrooge” there…
Life is too short to wear ugly sweater clothing
Hear, hear, sister. I don’t purge my closet of ill-fitting and uncomfortable clothing just to make space for a mesh of woven acrylic that sports flashing lights amidst a bad color combo.
I totally agree!
Wear anything you want and tell them that IS your ugly sweater ? How would they even know?
Perfect! ???
I went with my plain burgandy sweater. Works for me!
Sounds like a lovely morning with family!
We have a dept holiday breakfast every year and they do the Ugly sweater thing, but I also won’t buy one. I’m not interested in single-use clothing clogging up my limited space.
Yeah, I don’t have money to waste on things I won’t wear that look ugly.
I *so* don’t get the Ugly Christmas sweater thing. It’s a puzzlement. Having said that, I have a sweatshirt that has cats all over it with a Christmas theme. So Meowy Xmas!
A Christmas cat sweatshirt is just plain cute!
I don’t get it either. I know I wore a LIFETIMES worth in the 80’s and I’m not planning on doing it again anytime soon. ?
Good for you! Saw an article on FB this week about « how your ugly Christmas sweater is bad for the planet. «
Uh oh – that post was for Apsara. I’ll repost above. SOTD: Tea for Two – making up for lack of fragrance yesterday.
Dreary day, but warm-ish, and at least it didn’t rain all day as was predicted.
I’m commando but will wear something to go out in a bit. Finally opened a Tauer soap I had languishing in a cabinet. It’s the Tuberose one. It’s nice, but not as potent as I’d hoped, though I may just have a hard time smelling things in a steamy room. Also not a huge fan of glycerin soaps in a shower- don’t lather much at all.
I went to feed my parking lot colony to find t by e gate open and workers prepping to put up the new fence tomorrow. Chatted with them for a bit, and they directed my questions to the lot landlord who had just left. Caught up and basically implored him to let me in once/week for 5 min just to fill up the dry feeder (his office is on the same block). Couldn’t persuade him despite how he went on about how he’s vegan (hindu) and how in India he and others walk with their mouths closed so as to not accidentally ingest any flying insects and kill them ?.
My sister is at her colony daily. special place in heaven for both of you.
Awww, thanks ? But this is seriously the last colony I’m doing. It’s too much, mostly emotionally. And the same scenario over again: colony vs developers and property owners/turnover to new owners etc. Only 3 cats at this one and 2 probably will last another year or 2 at most.
Her kitty at home is one she snatched up when he was about 6 weeks old. He has quite the good life now.
Argh! That new owner sounds like a sanctimonious jerk. Going on about how he’s vegan, etc., but not wanting to help animals right under his nose. Even though it wouldn’t be any effort on his part… you’re the one doing the work. Grrrrrrrrrr!
My sentiments exactly. What a jerk.
He’s not the new owner, he’s the owner who leases out the lot. He’s actually owned it for like 30 years. The last tenants were awesome and welcoming. There’s no new tenant lined up as of yet so the lot is just empty (except for the winter shelters and feeding station I have in there) and gated. But, yeah, he was kind of a jerk and not sure about his vegan point. His one solution for me was to just stop feeding them. Those cats have been fed by humans for 8+ years!
I didn’t get to post yesterday, but I’m really sorry about your cat colony. I know it’s really hurting your heart. If that new guys buisness fails, it will be because of bad karma, which I am now wishing on him.
Thanks lillyjo. He’s actually in his 70s so will probably retire some day soon- which might be worse. People sell empty lots to developers, mostly, who build in those places. I’m just hoping he gets a new tenant with a 3 year lease who is nice and accommodating like the last tenants were.
Well still, I hope he swallows a fly!
?
Non-sequitur responses usually mean no good will come out of the discussion. Can you chuck food over the fence?
You’re right about that!
I do slide food under the gate when it’s nice out, but when the weather is bad/rainy/snowy the food gets water logged and they don’t eat. The last caretaker has an older male friend who feeds them sometimes and leaves a plastic Tupperware of food at the gate on occasion- while it’s raining. And it doesn’t register with him the next time he comes that the food gets ruined and is uneaten. He just does it again! (I used to clean up his mess, but left it so he could see the result, but it didn’t take, lol).
Slightly squishy and definitely gloomy here today. Today was “do more chores inside” day, plus I watched the Army-Navy football game. ??
SOTD = Bengale Rouge EdP, from the sample stash. Lots of what smells like Snickerdoodles in this, plus some kind of cosmetic powder. Not much evolution on me from what I can tell. Today’s weather might have been a little too warm for it.
Very gloomy. I cleaned my office top to bottom, so we must have the same “do chores” bug.
Maybe it was the lack of sunlight? ?
This is the first day I’ve been able to post since early in the week. I was catching up on the SOTD posts the morning after most days this week. Work has just been terribly consuming lately. I worked from home yesterday, and it really helped to limit distractions and find some time to focus.
Today I’m in the original version of Au Dela, not the Narcisse one that BF released soon after. Had a great Saturday so far. My boyfriend and I went out for brunch and then saw Knives Out, which we both enjoyed. What a great cast and a fun story. Brunch was amazing today. The restaurant switches up heir menu often, and today I tried the corned lamb hash. It was delicious and lots of different veggies. We also shared a biscuit with salted butter and preserves. We ate Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups during the movie, and now my boyfriend is making chicken and waffles for dinner. It’s an especially good food day!
I also want to report all the sweet perfumes I wore this week for the CP because I think I only checked in Monday. Tuesday = Sixteen92 I Made My Family Disappear, Wednesday = Carner Barcelona Palo Santo, Thursday = By Kilian Love Don’t Be Shy, and Friday = Laura Mercier Tarte au Citron, one of my most favorite gourmands.
We both wore Kilian Love on Thursday. 🙂
I tried all week to drag my husband to Knives Out, and failed. Have a feeling I am going to have to wait for Netflix.
Keep working on him! I think it’s an especially fun one to see in the theater. There was a good turnout even though it’s been out a few weeks, so it’ll probably stay in theaters for a while.
Thanks, I’ll keep working on it!
I love the original Au DeLa! You smell old school vintage fab!
Scent yesterday at bedtime, into this morning: I went with Five o’Clock au Gingembre again. I’m really enjoying that spiciness. 🙂
Commando this afternoon into the evening, but I made it to Longwood Gardens on another very busy day there and met up with family friends. It was pouring when I trotted from a distant part of the parking lot to the Visitors’ Center. They got there half an hour later, and it was only drizzling a bit when they did their trek from their car to the Visitors’ Center.
This time I got the whole way around the conservatories before the sun set. It was a very gray day, but much more was visible inside than was visible in the parts of the conservatories I saw at night two weeks ago with other friends. Also, the camellias are starting to bloom.
It was still very damp but not raining when we went outside again. I saw as many of the lighted trees outside as I wanted to, including some I hadn’t seen last time, and we caught an Open Air Theatre fountain show. It was less exhausting than my previous trip, but I’ve got to communicate better so I can meet up with friends in time to carpool with them. It was a good day, though.
Nice! I’d like to make it out to Longwood Gardens to see the Christmas lights someday. With the way things are going though, I don’t see it happening this year.
Some years seem better than others for getting places, don’t they? I worked at least a couple of hours a day as a home health aide most days between late April 2018 and more than a week into January 2019, and ended up being usually too tired to go out again after I’d gotten home and washed up. I missed last year’s Christmas display altogether. I’m glad I’ve gotten to this year’s.
But text or call or e-mail if it looks like you can get to southeastern PA, and we could meet up. 🙂
Slowly doing some Christmas decorating here; tree has been up with lights on for a week, but I haven’t put on any ornaments yet. I love the smell! I did decorate a wreath for the front door, and put some mercury glass globes on the dining room table, and bought some plant gifts for friends (potted amaryllis and a tiny topiary rosemary tree). Tomorrow I’ll start distributing them, and I’ll take to church the winter jackets and underwear I bought for our children’s clothing ministry. Christmas is more leisurely when your children are all over 18, and none of them are in The Nutcracker, lol!
I did much less decorating this year than usual, and am appreciating taking a more leisurely / less stress approach.
What an adorable monkey! Wearing Rodeo, a very wearable but sexy leather.
Agree about the monkey!
Wearing all my samples of Bengale Rouge. Mmmmm!
You smell divine!
Did you end up with a bottle?
Yes 🙂 Purchased at First in Fragrance for $150 instead of $190.
Nice!
Twins!
I’m in Carner Barcelona Black Calamus (last drops of a sample), layered over Amber Flush body oil. Trying to stay ahead of the dry skin that Old Man Winter will be bringing me soon.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday! ?
You smell lovely.
Thank you, cazaubon!
I brought out my heavy duty lotion for my shins earlier this week. ‘Tis the season!
Indeed. Shins, elbows and my back fare the worst.
Wearing Amouage Memoir right now but about to get into the shower. I have a dead modem so I am functioning off of my cellphone data. I hope the new modem will work and not have to call my internet company out. A little later, I will be attending a friend’s Christmas party but won’t be staying too long since I can only tolerate large crowds in small spaces for a short amount of time. Thinking of either Ubar, vintage Mitsouko, Jicky or vintage BaV for today.
Have a great time at the Christmas party!
Good luck with that modem Dawn!
Thanks to Hajusuuri, I’m a member of the Bengale Rouge club ?
To me, it’s like Shalimar laced with the spices in Opium. Very sexy imo.
My male coworker, who also likes fragrance, said whoa, you are smelling good today! I said yes I am!
We smell fabulous. 🙂
Congrats on the perfume compliment!
I saw a little bit of sun this afternoon, which was sorely needed! I wouldn’t mind more of that for sure.
SOTD = Bubblegum Chic extrait de parfum, from the sample stash and Holly. It really does smell like bubblegum to me at first. Tuberose haters should stay far far away from this one! I like it quite a bit… it’s fun.
Yes it does! That’s a fun fragrance!!
