Happy weekend! If you've got holidays coming up, hope you are enjoying the calm before the storm. We're keeping things low-key with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last fragrance you thought you'd love but hated as soon as it touched your skin, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I like Cartier’s Carat very much, but it doesn’t seem to get much mention, attention, or love, although it was created by the talented Mathilde Laurent. Has anyone here tried it? Thoughts?
I just tried it last week, I really liked it. It reminded me of EL Dazzling Silver from years ago, although, that might be a distorted memory. I’m going to seek out the travel spray.
I’ve seen good prices online for testers, which is what I have. Other than the box, the bottle is exactly the same, and very pretty!
Now you catch my attention with the mention of Dazzling Silver. The body cream especially was so good. I still haven’t tried Carat.
Well, like I said, it could be a faulty sense memory, but as soon as I smelled it, that’s what came to mind. El should have kept the Silver and Gold.
I love it, a little less than either Baiser Volé or La Panthère. I always give myself a little spritz whenever I see a tester.
Cartier geared Carat towards a younger audience than Panthere or Baiser Vole, I wonder if that backfired in a way? Or maybe tons of young people are wearing it, it’s not like I’d know!
It seems quite sophisticated for a “young” scent. I do not mean to imply that the young would not be able to appreciate a sophisticated scent, just that perfume companies tend to not give those to this group.
Agree! But that is who they said it was geared to, and the advertising was likewise much younger than the other 2.
I never would have guessed it, but then I’m usually very unaware of the advertising of perfume. I only click on the ads if they seem particularly silly (Sauvage 😉 ).
At the risk of sounding perfume-snobby, I thought it was nice enough for a department store perfume, but I did pass along my sample to a friend new to the hobby.
I agree, found it a bit sharp and not to my taste.
Running errands in Shalimar cologne.
Our Thanksgiving will be very low key this year, so no real shopping or cooking involved. Later, I will be wrapping up some of my presents for my sister’s baby shower tomorrow afternoon. Twin girls will bring happiness to the family in January. I will wear either Chanel Paris-Deauville or 31 Rue Cambon.
Have a peaceful weekend everyone!
Exciting about the twins! ?
+1 Oh?♀️?♀️ what fun!
That is going to drive everybody crazy! ?
I know! The funwill be double! ??
What wonderful news; congrats to your sister!
Thank you, Koyel!
Enjoy yourself at the baby shower.
I will! Looking forward to having a great time!
You are smelling great running errands! Sounds like a great upcoming Thanksgiving; we are all about low-key! It’s more about having fun and no pressure.
Enjoy your day tomorrow! You will be smelling fabulous in your choice of Chanel!
Thank you, Gail! This year our holidays will be more quiet than usual.
I am sure we will have lots of fun tomorrow!
Awwwwwwww! Twin baby girl cuteness for sure! Enjoy the shower, and your low-key Thanksgiving.
Thank you, Jalapeno! ?
Congrats to auntietotwins!
Thanks. Hajusuuri!
Busy today today as Mr L is traveling and I am holding down the fort
Reading The Giver of Stars, so far so good
SOTD is 31 RC perfume version thanks to a generous NSTer , I find it different than the EdT but since I finished the EdT I can’t do a side my side
Hope the fort stands strong….
BR, or Bengale Rouge, for those who are unaware of my continued obsession ?
It’s my Wednesday, it’s warming up, and I’m only 3 shifts away from being nomadic again. This has been a good place to sit still for a while, despite the unseasonably early cold temps. I covered all lot of ground my two months off, and I was ready to be still for a while. But, my feet are itchy now, and I’ll be glad of two weeks of freedom to travel to AZ.
I may order a bottle of BR…certainly don’t need it, but I’m blasting my way through a second decant (thanks to a generous NSTer!), which means a FB would be thoroughly enjoyed and used. I’ll have to look around to see if it’s back in stock. Can anyone talk me out of it..? I didn’t think so. ?
You didn’t give anyone a chance to talk you out of it. LOL
The NST folks seem to be mostly a good bunch of enablers, although there is the occasional occurrence of talking someone down. 🙂
Hi Deva,
I just posted below about my conundrum regarding weather or not to go through with a blind buy of this. I think your praises may have persuaded me to even consider such a thing ?
Luckyscent seems to have it in stock.
I don’t want to be another enabler, but I agree with Deva that Bengal Rouge is full bottle and even back up bottle worthy! ?
Oh, boy! ?
Thanks, PL67
…from under the tall grass like a slunking cat I whisper…”me2!”…
We are not helping for sure! ?
LOL
Don’t listen to me! I was in raptures over Amour de Cacao a while back, and someone blind bought it and was less than thrilled. I always recommend sniffing first…that’s my waiver of responsibility ?
…pssst: and I did. Go for it, HoHoho.
20 % is coming up from LS this week for Black Friday is all I’m sayin…..?
I have not yet heard about this 20% off coupon. And I did get their email about gifts with purchases this morning; I would certainly wait for it. Thanks for the heads up Angela B!
I don’t think I’ had gotten 20% off except randomly (and it came at a great time as I was getting ready to purchase Mohur Extrait).
Oof. If you get it, I feel like I’ve been goaded into wanting to buy a 5mL decant off of you. Blind decants are way safer than blind bottles.
Hi Koyel,
If I end up getting it I’ll let you know?
Resistance is futile. There’s a lot of love for BR here that if you end up not liking it, you have enough people here to take splits.
It appears to be in stock at LS (no affiliation) but for the love of God make sure you use a code to get yourself a good GWP…I’m all about the GWP and they have a great selection for the holidays right now. 🙂
https://www.luckyscent.com/brand/366/luckyscent-gifts-with-purchase
Again with the fuzzy brain — if you hadn’t included the link, I would have been wondering for days what GWP was short for. Yes, Luckyscent does have a nice selection of gifts with purchase offerings now.
Oh, thanks! I never even thought of a GWP! Duh, me!
Great advice.
Can you use a percent off coupon and gwp coupon?
Nope – only one coupon is allowed. Grump.
Yes, if you take the GWP, you have to pay $9 shipping, so choose wisely.
I was able to do the gift with purchase and with free shipping the other day. I did the gift with purchase in my order and then soon after e-mailed customer service because I’d forgotten to put in the free shipping code. They were able to put in the free shipping for me, so that was nice.
I considered doing a split of this. Certainly would participate. It is in stock a number of places.
We could try…IF you really wanted us to.
Today I am not the person to be talking about no buys, since I didn’t follow my own advice. Maybe tomorrow I can do a decent “Don’t Do It!” pep talk?
Oh I think you do need BR. 🙂
I just popped some chestnuts in the oven – not “roasting on the open fire” sadly, but do love them and a tradition to enjoy these from Thanksgiving through Christmas.
Also enjoying a new tea that’s become a quick favorite called Buttermint and you guessed it, it smells and tastes like real buttermints. Vanilla and mint done just right. I add a drop of honey to turn up the sweet just a bit.
SOTD: Libre
That tea sounds delicious. As does the scent of the chestnuts and your actual scent. A fragrant home….
Oh yum…chestnuts and a nice tea!
Wow, the tea sounds great. What brand and where did you get it!
Sorry just seeing this now! It’s Twinings and I already finished the box!
So how do you eat the chestnuts after they have been cooked? As is, or in something?
Straight up! I eat them just as is. They’re delicious. You can add a little sea salt but I don’t even do that. I like them hot or cold after roasted. Try them!
Briefly tried the sample I got of Tommy Hilfinger “The Girl.” I wasn’t into it right then. I’ll look up the reviews, but at that moment it smelled more murky to me than Tommy Girl. I washed that off.
I switched to my little decant of Pacifica Mediterranean Fig. I like this one. I regret giving away the rollerball of it that I got shortly before it was discontinued.
I fell off the wagon on my very modest attempt at a two-week no-buy and got stuff from Surrender to Chance. Oh, well.
This morning’s tea was Cinnamon Stick again.
Folks, remind me to get it together so I can offer up the duplicates of samples I have.
I got a bunch of “gift with purchase” Serge Lutens samples recently. Thanks to the generosity of various NST folks, I already have samples and/or decants of Un Bois Vanille, Chergui and Gris Clair. (Thank you, folks!) Those new samples can move along to folks who haven’t tried those particular fragrances yet. Katsura had had Vitriol d’Oeillet on her wish list, and I had gotten a sample of that some time ago, so that’s for her. That was one of the cases of it taking a while for me to get myself together to be ready to send out things.
Demeter duplicates I’ve found so far include samples of Gingerbread and Lilac. I’m still double-checking through that collection of samples.
I know I ended up with another few duplicates of L’Artisan samples in the last couple of months. I’ll look again through those. I had two or three people specifically in mind who had wanted certain ones. I’ll let y’all know. I kept in mind that Millicent had had Caligna on her wish list, and I have a manufacturer’s sample of that. (No swap necessary — she had sent me quite a lot of samples and decants some months ago.)
Since I got that Atelier Cologne Advent Calendar last year(?), I’ve gotten other samples of Vanille Insensee, Sud Magnolia and Clementine California.
I also still have quite the collection of candles and scented soaps, but I’d need help with postage for that kind of thing.
You can reach me at neyronrose at gmail dot com. Those of you who communicated with me in September about me having this or that sample, please remind me. My brain was not at its best in October.
Glad you found something more comfortable to wear! Weather sure is dreary.
I was glad I didn’t have to go out this weekend. I got some laundry and a line editing job done. I’ve had more productive weekends, but it’s nice to have a quiet one sometimes. My fleecy blanket was calling to me. 🙂
Falling off the “No Buy” wagon twins! ? Hoping I can behave for the rest of the year now. No guarantees, though.
Oh, gosh. That’s not a good kind of twins. I’ll see what catches my eye on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and then I’ll try to behave again.
Now my hands and my room smell like chocolate from doing little decants of chocolate perfumes. Step two is figuring out how to package the tiny bottles so they don’t leak. I figure I’ll try lots of Parafilm and a couple of layers of plastic bags. 🙂
Bedtime: Demeter Blue Spruce. I definitely caught a “piney” scent from this, but also perceived it as somewhat waxy. I tried Demeter Christmas Tree somewhere in the last few days, and liked that.
Scent of the afternoon (Sunday): LUSH Vanilliary solid perfume. Nice, soothing, mostly worn off after a few hours.
Many thanks to everyone who was concerned about my under the weather mood. Things are much brighter today. I went cycling with my dad when it was only 6°C outside. I felt like an icicle when I got home, but it was nice.
Sotd is Parfum d’Empire Cuir Ottoman.
I had an idea to buy a music CD of the latest Ed Sheeran album for my dad but apparently he bought it himself few days ago. Back to the drawing board…
Glad you are feeling better!
Thanks
Good to hear, your day was brighter!
It’s good news
Good afternoon and a Happy weekend to all NST ers!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I do try to follow the daily reports as best I can.
To all of you who have been dealing with difficulties, illness and death in the family, my heart goes out to you.
I am wearing Taklamakan today, on a fairly warm but rainy day in GA.
I’m contemplating a blind buy of Bengale Rouge and wondering if it’s a good idea given that I don’t like honey (as a prominent note in perfume), Shalimar or vintage perfumes. I do, however like all the other notes listed for BR and love orientals, not too sweet vanillas and warm cuddly perfumes in general. I don’t remember loving any other Papillon perfumes I’ve tried but I did like Tobacco Rose.
Does BR have any resemblance to Taklamakan? Musc Ravageur? Would it be a safe blind buy?
Many anticipated thanks!
I would say you would like BR if like rich vanilla scents, and I found it a bit much for me, although it’s growing on me as I use my sample. I don’t recall much resemblance to Taklamakan, which I found much drier, and is on my list of possible future purchases.
On the other hand, someone here said BR didn’t have enough vanilla. So I’m not sure that’s much help!
Thank you Gaynor. Any input is helpful and welcome?
Ok so I don’t know how Taklamakan smells but I’ve been enamored greatly by the name for a long time. I love Bengal Rouge and it is not too loud of an amber or vanilla on me and the labdanum is really well placed. There is a faint rose which keeps it all in balance and I would agree with Gaynor that it is not dryish like I imagine Taklamakan to be. ( true disclosure no affiliation. Skin type: scent devourer-for me even Salome is not too much)
Now I have ‘It’s a rainy day in GA’ in my head, I don’t mind as I love this song.
night, it’s a rainy night of course.
I’m lying in bed on a lazy Sunday morning, awkwardly pecking this out on my phone. We had a nice drive to Hawke’s Bay yesterday, and the afternoon was beautifully warm when we arrived. Heading back home again today, and I’ll be wearing Guerlain’s Encens Mythique d’Orient.
I haven’t spelt out that perfume on my phone before, and it offered me Encephalitis Mudhole 🙂
A rare and fatal disease ?
I considered googling Encephalitis Mudhole and decided, nah.
This puts me in mind of Gene Weingarten (Washington Post) and his googlenopes: https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/21/AR2010052103345.html
(Will be surprised if this actually posts; I’m still having trouble both from home and from work. I’ll figure out what’s wrong eventually, I guess.)
Ha, worked fine — very cute!
Oh, dear, my brain is very fuzzy. I’ll never be able to remember what that is if the spell-check suggestion gets adopted by the NST crew.
I’m glad you had a good day on your Saturday, though.
I totally laughed out loud at your spellchecker ?
I did too! I imagined it had the same befuddled look in its face as people sometime do when told about my perfume hobby.
Me three!
You smell great in Encephalitis Mudhole. 🙂
?
That spellcheck is a beaut!
😆
Original Fendi EdT today, just because. I’m wearing one of my favorite outfits today, and feeling very pulled together.
I hope every one of you has a wonderful weekend!
Once again, smelling fabulous!
Drenched myself in Bottega Veneta. Cooked dinner with savoy cabbage and meatballs with dried tomatoes and porcini, washed down with a bottle of Riesling. Cut out another pinafore dress, so I can start it in the next days. Tomorrow we will go to the Stuttgart autumn fair for the hobby and food market.
Your dinner sounds fantastic tannina!
Thanks for the dinner idea. I love roasted cabbage.
Me too. So easy, and so very tasty.
My cold/sinus infection is finally gone!!!! I am wearing Winter Palace from the split meet via hajusuuri. When my decant arrived all I could smell was rice and Raid (yes, insect killing toxic spray). I still get a little bit of Raid in the first minute or two, but gosh, this is a beautiful fragrance. It also has me playing the fragrance memory game — what does it remind me of? I do not know, but it’s there. I wish I could better articulate the notes I’m getting. My husband says it reminds him of Italy, so many the citrus? Anyway, thanks again to hajusuuri for hosting the split. Mine may get used up before the New Year.
I like Winter Palace too and now that you mentioned it I get the association with Raid! It’s probably citrus and some spices.
I LOOOOOVEEE Winter Palace! It’s kinda like a cup of tea with a slice of orange and some gingerbread spices.
Glad your cold / sinus infection went away. The top notes of Winter Palace reminds me of Hermes Galop! I think it’s quince except it is not listed in the notes for WP ??♀️
I changed my mind about the quince. I wore WP today and what I smelled was root beer and bubblegum. The root beer probably comes from the styrax.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the decant!
Great news about your cold/sinus infection being gone!
I am wearing some Kyse Bonbons à La Vanille body cream and will douse myself with something vanilla-based from Solstice Scents later today.
It is the first holidays without my parents this year and, at times, I have felt right back in the thick of grief. My brother is flying in from SF for Thanksgiving today and I am very grateful for that. Big hugs to all those remembering lost loved ones this time of year.
Big hug right back at you, She-ra.
Adding a hug from me.
That is so hard She-ra — really glad your brother is coming.
Big big hugs to you, She-ra. I’m glad your brother is spending Thanksgiving with you!
Big hugs to you, it has to be really hard. Glad your brother will join you. And vanilla always helps.
It will be good to have your brother around this year. Sending you hugs She-ra.
Hugs, She-ra. Holidays are so difficult after a loved one passes away. I’m glad to hear that your brother will be with you on Thanksgiving.
Hugs, She-ra. I’m glad you’ll get to see your brother.
I feel your pain She-ra. Together w/your brother is a terrific idea. Sending you wonderful memories to make you laugh this holiday season, ones that will warm your heart and keep your parent close.
As silly as this may sound I really believe that when we feel that love- they get ‘pinged’ out in the universe somewhere and feel it too.
Lots of hugs and love, She-ra <3
Spent the morning in Nuda and since I am post shower, I am commando right now. Doing some little home projects and some cleaning before Thanksgiving. I have a grandmother, aunt, cousin and fiancee coming for Thanksgiving and spending the night. Gotta clear out some stuff and start cleaning before I spend most of my time at work and not have a lot of time. I think I will wear Les Annees 25 BIS when I am finished.
I’m wearing BIS right now. Lovely stuff, got two compliments already.
Lemminggggggg
What do you think of 25 BIS?
I find it to be a little louder than the original but much smoother. I love it and it’s full bottle worthy.
I’ve been speeding through the Ruth Galloway mysteries, since so many of you recommended them last time we had a “Whatcha Readin?” poll. I like them lot, but they get gobbled up quite quickly.
I’m wearing Blanche Immortelle, and smelling elegant. It’s a fun contrast to my outward appearance – faded jeans, worn t-shirt, and hair all in a crazy halo around my head.
Happy weekend, everybody.
They really are quick reads!
Just picked up The Stone Circle from the library and looking forward to it.
You smell great!
Do you have to read them in publication order?
Yes, I think so. The characters are more enjoyable if one watches their relationships evolve.
Agree.
Thanks!
Quite excited about my recent evilbay purchase, which just arrived: a lot of 5 fragrances, including vintage EL Celadon and Beyond Paradise, vintage Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds parfum and Passion EDT, and Liz Claiborne. I will smell like the 1980s for sure!
Oh what fun!
Honestly don’t think I ever smelled Celadon.
That sounds like a great batch of scented goodies!
Was pawing around and found a travel spray of Oeillet Bengale. I could have sworn I have more than this partially used one and will be sorry if I finish this and don’t have another travel spray somewhere. Love it so much.
Thought I’d try to get some things accomplished today, and all I’ve done is rip out some knitting….
Oeillet Bengale is really really great. I also fancy Cierge de Lune
I love Oeillet Bengale too. Definitely fbw.
Off topic… have been checking out breakfast cups and saucers. I want a cup and saucer set that has more capacity than the usual teacup. Anyone have recommendations?
You could get some ideas in Etsy under: oversized teacups?
I have my breakfast tea in a Rorstrand Mon Amie tea cup, 17 oz, but unfortunately they only seem to make the saucer for their smaller cups. I am especially fond of that cup because despite the size, the china is not weirdly thick as it is with some large cups.
Villeroy & Boch also makes 17 oz breakfast cups, but some of their breakfast cups are much smaller.
Thanks. I have been looking at Villeroy ones.
Hi everyone! I always find myself returning to Hermes fragrances maybe because they are just so reliable. I’ve a question for any Hermes lovers here: which do you prefer, Voyage edt or Voyage edp? I ask because my bottle of the edt is almost empty and, while I love it, I find that it lasts only about 2 hours on me. I’m wondering if the parfum has better longevity. Any thoughts?
The parfum is warmer and spicier so it really depends on your preference.
Good to know. Thanks!
Wearing Hermes Cuir d’Ange, one of my favorite leathers and perfumes in general. It amazes me every time, it’s so goooood!
I sometimes think that with all the niche houses, the designer exclusives are not that highly regarded, but the Hermes, Chanel, Dior do such an amazing job with well renown in house perfumers, that they’re better than 90% of the niche offerings. And I’m one that is mostly interested in niche (including there the designer exclusives).
I think it depends on who you talk to, regarding the designer exclusives. I think it really doesn’t matter what the brand name is, some perfumes are great and some are crap, most are somewhere in between. You smell great!?
Drenched myself in Tauer Les Années 25 BIS today, got two compliments already, although one was indirect. I was sitting in the yoga studio when someone walked in and said, It smells good in here! But no one ever seems to identify where the smell is coming from (this is not the first time it’s happened).
Oh boy I’m going to have to sample.
Ah, instant lemming. Now I need to try it.
Oh yay! I have a partial bottle coming my way!
If you decide to split off any of it, can I raise my hand to be at the front of the line? I’ve been most curious about this one. (Unrelated: I’m still sad I missed out on your Winter Palace split a month or two ago.)
Hi Koyel, just send me an email with your new address. You missed out on my epic freebies too so I will send you this, Winter Palace and Ginger Piccante. And if you have not tried Bengale Rouge, you will get it too. Everything will be 2-3 mLs except BR since the supply is dwindling.
SOTD is Hermes Ambre Narguile thanks to the recent split meet. I think I could easily just wear this every day. It was a beautiful fall day here today with sunshine, 60-degree temperatures, and a surprising array of fall colored leaves around town. I must go out tomorrow on a photography quest. Speaking of which, I went to a photo gallery holiday party and sale and bought a photo I absolutely loved, and then to a trunk show of some local jewelers who do fabulous, exquisite and delicate work. It’s a pleasure to see this brother-sister team continue to expand and do well. They are both very charming and I have followed them for about five years now and been to their studio. Both are just very sweet. Born here but with family toes and design influences in India. Here’s a good article about them. (Great emeralds, and no, I don’t get any kickbacks, alas!). https://www.texasmonthly.com/the-culture/ila-houston-jewelry/
That’s family TIES not TOES, though for all I know, that might be true also!
Thanks for the link. I enjoyed that article, and looking at the sparklies, very much!
Me too. How neat! Thanks. 🙂
I look forward to your photos!
How lovely! Did you end up buying any of their stuff? Maybe someday I’ll feel comfortable paying that much for something other than my engagement ring…!
Hey everyone! I’m wearing and thunking the last of my vintage Dior Addict.
I know every year I say I’m not going to cook a turkey for thanksgiving, but I accidentally bought a 12 pound turkey yesterday. Last year, it didn’t thaw out in time so we had chicken, lol. Anyway I want to defrost it in the refrigerator, so when should I start defrosting? I was thinking tomorrow morning?
While I don’t profess to be anything close to Gordon Ramsay or Geoffrey Zakarian, the last time I defrosted a turkey in the fridge, it was 3-4 days before the dinner. It’s safer in the fridge than left out to thaw on the counter. I should add that you may want to raise the turkey onto a cooling rack and have a cookie sheet underneath so it won’t refreeze directly onto the cookie sheet. If it’s still frozen on the day of the dinner you can run it under cold water and soak it (still wrapped) in the sink to help it unthaw the rest of the way.
Yeah, I definitely want to fridge defrost. I’m always afraid I’m going to undercook the turkey and give everyone food poisoning.
So glad you asked this question. I’m always thinking about making sure the turkey is at the right cooking temp. Going to start thawing today!
I wish I could help with your turkey question lillyjo, but Mr. Jalapeno is in charge of that part of Thanksgiving. I do all the side dishes. Gail’s advice sounds pretty good to me. Especially the part about having a drip tray under the bird! ?
What side dishes do you do?
What I’ve done has varied over the years, but the “essentials” are roasted Brussels sprouts, Broccoli casserole, and onion/sage/giblet stuffing. I also do those frozen pearl onions in cream sauce sometimes, since they just get popped into the microwave for a few minutes.
Yay! Another thunking! Hope this year you are successful with the turkey cooking! ?
I’m going to try and thunk something else tomorrow. I have several decants I’ve been holding on to, that are nearly empty.
I would start tomorrow. It will take several days.
Yeah, I think I will.
I sat for a bit wondering how you accidentally buy 12 pounds of anything, then decided to let it go. When we’ve gotten a whole frozen turkey, sometimes we put it in a big cooler with some ice packs so it can defrost gradually. We switch the ice packs out after some hours, so it doesn’t get to room temperature. This is over a couple of days.
Good luck!
Smittenkitchen has a dry brined recipe up, that seems very doable. And I’ve never cooked a turkey before!
Start thawing it in the fridge NOW. At worst, it’ll be fully thawed in the fridge for a leetle longer than it otherwise would’ve been, and there is no downside to that! It’ll even give you more chances to dry out the skin and dry brine or whatever you want to do ahead of time, saving you time on Thursday. Better safely thawed than sorrily frozen.
I took it out at 9 am. Hopefully it works this year.
Hello NST! Happy Saturday (or Sunday, as the case may be) to you all. I finally managed to get in a badly overdue haircut today… left about half my hair on the salon floor. It feels good to have my layers back! ?
I did a bit of sniffing at ULTA today: liked the new Gucci in the green bottle enough to spray on a test strip. Will circle back at a later time to try on skin. Also smelled the Alien flanker in the red bottle, and the Clinique My Happy Blue Sky Neroli and My Happy Peace & Jasmine. I couldn’t smell a thing with the neroli scent. The Peace & Jasmine was a pretty, clean but not too clean jasmine. But Oy, those skinny little bottles are too easy to knock over. ?
My perfume no-buy bit the dust today. My local Lord & Taylor is closing, so I went over to see if any perfume deals were to be had. I found a travel spray of Aromatics Elixir, and that was that. I can’t remember now if Beauty was 10% or 20% off, but the cute little bottle would have probably won me over regardless of discount. I’m gonna miss having L&T close by.
SOTD = Rihanna Rogue again. I am seriously liking this one…
Enjoy your new Aromatics Elixir!
Thank you!
I am in dire need of a haircut too. Maybe Tuesday. Congrats on your purchase!
I hope that you can get your haircut dealt with soon! Thanks!
You have me wanting to try Rogue now. Congrats on the AE!
Rogue is definitely worth a sniff. It is going for stupid cheap at the discounters right now.
I finally got a haircut on Thursday, and am happy to have the bangs out of my eyes. It does feel good, though, doesn’t it, when you’ve been wanting a haircut for a while and manage to get it done. 🙂
You got in a good day of sniffing perfumes. 🙂 I don’t think a travel size with a percentage off would be too pricey, but I know you were trying for a no-buy for the rest of the year. Back on the wagon you go, huh?
Yes, it DOES feel good getting a haircut! I wish I could have done it sooner, but my schedule and life decided that “Nope, you have other things to take care of first”.
So many department stores seem to bite the dust at the moment. I remember while living in New York in the eighties and nineties when Gimbels and Altman Brothers closed. Was given free dessert at Gimbels by a waitress who had just learned it was her last day and bought darling little solid silver knives at AB. The workers rights in the US always seemed so poor to me.
Congratulations on the AE spray, such a great perfume but sorry you’re losing Lord & Taylor.
Well, Lord & Taylor isn’t going out of business, thankfully. Just the store by me is closing. Not sure what that will do to the mall it is in, though. They’ve already lost one anchor store already.
I think ours is closing soon, too (in the suburban DC area).
That’s a bummer.
You gotta do what you gotta do…too bad they didn’t have Wrappings! I have to check out my L&T.
I shortened my bangs to eke out the all around haircut until the 2nd week of December so that my hair would be just right for the holiday parties and my trip to Mexico City. I know I must get a hair cut when the bottom of my hair curls out.
I suspect that both Macy’s and Boscov’s have it. Not sure I want to find that out right now… ?
The percent off in Beauty is specific to the store closest to me, since it is the only one closing in the area. Next closest one that I know of is the Quaker Bridge Mall.
I’m doing a mall run later today. Bosvov’s is having 15% off Beauty. If they have it, I’ll buy it. You can change your mind (and I can always return it) but if not, we can arrange to meet when the craziness is over (or meet up in a weekday later in December as I put in for time off.
I hear you on the crazy. One of my friends has to work every Saturday during the month of December.
No luck at Boscov’s. The Clinique SA didn’t even know it was by Clinique ?. She offered me Aromatics Elixir instead ?.
Hmmmmmmm. I didn’t see it at ULTA yesterday either.
I wore Tam Dao for a hair appointment this morning, and added Indochine this evening for dinner out with Mr. G’s sons and their SOs. This was “Thanksgiving” dinner (at a sushi restaurant), partly to avoid collisions with other of the boys’ family and adjacent peoples’ plans over the holiday weekend, and partly just to enjoy their company. I’m a very lucky step-parent.
It’s a great idea!
The Tam Dao/Indochine layering or the Sushi Thanksgiving? 😉
All three – with the 3rd being celebrating a week before everyone else! Should have said great ideas!
Thumbs up with Hajusuuri on both things: the sushi and the perfume!
I’m in Cuir Ottoman this evening after going scentless most of the day. I spent the day packing on and off because I leave for Ohio tomorrow morning. I’ve packed a lot of samples, so hopefully I captured a good variety to keep me happy. I have a feeling I’ll check in here while I’m at the airport. Trying not to have airport anxiety. I’m fine with flying, I just don’t like the pre-flight experience.
Safe travels!
Flying has become such a drag, I much prefer the train, it still seems romantic to me, but it’s true I’m in Europe where railways are often an option.
Totally agree. Wish north america had a decent train network.
You smell wonderful. CO is a perfect scent for flying. Safe travels.
I decided to wear CO again today for the flight. Thanks!
Safe travels and no flight delays! ✈
There was a delay, but it could have been worse.
I just realized I sent your overdue freebie package yesterday. Is the post office holding your mail?
My boyfriend will be home to get it. Thank you!
It’s Sunday morning and some sun is scheduled (it was all grey skies yesterday). The last perfume I tried thinking I would like it and turned out to be a bid No is AdP Ambra. So screechy with that note which makes me ill. It’s fun to read about the preparations for Thanksgiving, it was my favorite holiday when I lived in America. I love sweet potato anything.
It was rainy earlier in the morning for me. Then around lunchtime, it turned into the dreaded “wintry mix”. Now the rain has stopped, and the sun showed up for a few moments. Back to grey clouds, though.
Steven King should write a story about “the dreaded wintery mix”
It’s sneaky and scary!
It’s not so bad if you are inside with a large mug of hot cocoa/chocolate, especially if you have marshmallows in it. And maybe some rum… ☕
Sotd: yesterday John Galliano, today Mure et Musc Exyreme. Friday was Iris Cendre and tomorrow may be Jolie Madame. I’m on a “purple scent” kick. Hiris didn’t make the cut: my association with it is spring green. On book recs: idly browsed takeonethingoff last night and there is a post on ten books she (Claire Vukcevic) keeps on rereading. A fun read.
Jolie Madame! ?
I’m smelling Ummagumma good this fine Sunday, which is actually my Friday! WooHoo!
Enjoy! TGIF!
TGIF, you smell fab!
Smelling great, Deva! Enjoy your weekend!
Yay weekend!
Going to wear Bengale Rouge today.
So good! I love BR.
? smelling FINE!
Perfect!
Taking it very easy this morning, and nursing my overindulgence hangover with coffee and SSS Tabac Aurea. Too much wine and about one salmon nigiri too many last night. So delicious though.
Wine and nigiri sounds like a splendid Saturday night 🙂
I’m working tonight and am wearing Tabbaco Vanille. I’m going to have to talk to my boss about the way she’s been scheduling me lately. For the last 2 weeks I’ve had 3 nights and this week I have 4. I’m supposed to share the nights with another lady, but she has been getting all days. Anyway, I decided to say something about it, so let’s see how it goes.
Good luck!
Oy vey! I hope that conversation goes well.
4 nights sounds like a lot. Hope something can be arranged with your colleague as it doesn’t seem fair that you should do so many.
You smell great.
Good going! I’d ask too; it doesn’t hurt!
Update- it did not go well at all, but at least I said something. I still smell fantastic ?
Ugh, I don’t get it. What happened to the arrangement? It looks like you got the short end of the stick!
I did, but I’m just going to keep my head down and keep doing what I believe is a good job.
Sorry it didn’t go well, but you do smell great.
Indeed I do!
Phooey.
Dang right.
Was she able to provide any reasonable explanation?
She gave me a reason, but it doesn’t hold water with me. She was pretty hostile actually, that I questioned it, but I kinda figured that going in.
I wore Bengal Rouge today while running errands and baking.
Twins with BR today; we smell great! Thanks hajusuuri!
I may have to wear this tomorrow. So much love for it!
SOTD = Memo Winter Palace
Perfect for today’s raw cold wet weather. I was properly contemplative for church this morning.

In other news, the Bryant Park Holiday shoppes are open! There seems to be more fragrance / fragrance forward stalls this year. I don’t exactly know how many more but it feels like they are not as widely spaced as the previous years which makes me think there’s more of them!
I will save my rant on While Foods for some other day!
Nice photo! Wish we had holiday markets here in San Diego. I’m wearing Tauer Au Coeur du Désert.
That ornament is cute!
That bottle is total eye candy!
Sharing raw wet weather with Hajusuuri and probably a few other NSTers today. Tomorrow and Tuesday have been forecast as lovely, though, so I will look forward to that. Both cats plastered themselves over the heat vents this afternoon.
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Reve s’Ossian, from the sample stash. A properly warming and spicy incense for the icky weather.
It never stopped raining here today. So glad that sun is showing up for both of us tomorrow. ?
