It's Tuesday, Happy Hour Day and World Pneumonia Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying out Providence Perfume Co Drunk On The Moon. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Kashmir Tchai.
Reminder: on 11/15, wear a fragrance by Chanel, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2014.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tonfisk Warm teapot and accessories are available in 2 colors and 2 wood finishes. The small teapot is $120 (and the large is $145) at FinnStyle.
It might snow today so I’m wearing Songes for its tropical feel. We should do a tropical escape project sometime in January or February
Songes is beautiful. I never think to wear it in the winter/fall season.
Great idea
I prefer it in colder weather since I find it a little heavy in the heat
Songes is great at any time of the year!
Poudre de Riz for me this morning, as I headed to a breakfast thing. The temps are dropping! I need cozy and warm, so I made oatmeal for breakfast with some blueberries and a bit of maple syrup.
nom, both your meal and scent sound delicious. Stay cozy!
Scent of the middle of the night and this morning: Jicky, plus I had Crabtree & Evelyn lavender body lotion on other parts of my arms, and on my hands. The two scents didn’t clash, fortunately. With Jicky this time, I got the lavender, “Mediterranean” herbs, and a smoky vanilla. I think I could perceive it better this time than other times I’ve tried. It’s different from the more modern fragrances I’m used to, of course, but I got used to it fairly soon.
Jicky is one of the easier old school Guerlains for me too…you smell great!
Thank you! 🙂
I can still smell Jicky a little bit.
Yesterday and today I went to the SPCA to get more practice walking the dogs. I wear a green lanyard with my name tag, so staff and other volunteers know I’m “green” as a dog walker.
As I get a number of hours of more experience, I’ll work my way up to be a “yellow” dog walker. The phrasing amuses me because I’m aware that there’s a sort of dog especially known in the Southern U.S., the “yaller” or “yeller” dog. Yes, like the book and movie “Old Yeller” and like the phrase “yellow dog Democrat.” Not to get into politics here, but it was a Southern expression. I’m sure Wikipedia will have information about yellow dogs.
So far, the dog I’ve managed to successfully walk is a nine-year-old pug/boxer mix that’s pug-sized. She’s very sweet and friendly, and focuses well on the person walking her, although she does want to go meet any other person she sees in hopes of being made much of — she knows she’s cute. 🙂
Scent of the afternoon: Comme des Garcons incense series 3, Jaisalmer. I like it.
The Incense series was very well done, IMO. Nice choice for today’s very not nice weather!
Agreed on both counts. 🙂 Thanks.
I went and walked the little senior dog pug mix in the late morning, when it wasn’t too cold, and then came back to the house for lunch. I did projects I could do in the house, and then took a short nap in the afternoon. I didn’t really pay attention to the weather outside except for putting a hoodie over my T-shirt when it felt colder in the house. After dinner I caught up on correspondence and did laundry. And here I am. 🙂
I do need to go out in the morning tomorrow morning. Good luck to both of us — and others affected — in staying warm enough tomorrow! One of the things I washed was my winter coat. From what the weatherpeople said, it’s a day to wear lots of layers, so I’ll have a hoodie under the coat, and a warm hat and scarves and gloves. 🙂 That’s my plan! Take care. 🙂
I wanted something chocolate today, so I’m wearing 4711 AC Blackberry & Cocoa. It was handy. And I like it.
Today, I just want chocolate in the food form.
With this up and down temperatures I feel like I am eating more than usual.
Smell Bent has a new chocolate perfume, Gelty as Charged from a new series of three ( teenage diary).
Was JUST looking at those…!
You and I seem to share a soft spot for Smell Bent…smoked ambergris, gypsy etc.
Just ordered the set of 3 in the travel size. They all sound great, but I’m particularly interested in the ambergris scent…
https://www.smellbent.com/collections/diary-of-a-teenage-perfumer
They all look good actually.
Pneumonia Day! Fittingly, I spent the first 30 minutes of the day coughing like a maniac. (I don’t feel sick though. Fingers crossed.)
Wearing OJ Vanille d’Iris from the splitmeet. It’s so pretty and comfy but with a thin veil of smoke. Thank you M for organizing it!
Hope you are better soon!
(Well, you said you did not feel sick, so maybe what I mean is more fingers crossed.)
SOTD is Vol de Nuit parfum. I haven’t worn this in a while and thought I’d fallen out of love, but no. It’s still love. 🙂
I want to love this. I have tried to love it. I love the name. I love the bottle. It doesn’t love me back. SheriG. I am glad you two have love:)
?
I’m so sorry, apsara. I feel that way about almost every Annick Goutal I’ve tried. So interesting that the same fragrance on different skin can have such a different personality. One of the notes that “makes” VdN for me is the petitgrain – do you think that might be the culprit for you? Or do you not have trouble with petitgrain in other scents?
Chanel Bois des Iles, EdT to make me feel comfy on this cold, grey, rainy, busy day.
Sorry about that weather. At least you smell wonderful!
Thank you! ?. At least it will be sunny tomorrow ?
Sun makes everything better.?
My Chanel Les Exclusifs EDT are all in the same drawer of a rolling cart. I don’t store them in any particular order and since they are in boxes and they all look the same except for the name on the bottom, whichever one I pick up first gets worn unless it’s something I’ve worn very recently, in which case the hand picks another one. I had BdI in mind but 31RC was what my hand lifted up.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you Hajusuuri! You also smell fabulous today.
I have my Les Exclusifs in special drawers of my perfume cabinet organized by season. However, like you, since they are in the boxes I just grab whatever my hand decides, unless I am craving for a specific one. In that case I have to go to the painful process of checking one by one.
You photo today has a very “zen” element to it Robin.
I can do a whole week of Chanel but I am not in the mood.
I am sampling Chris Collins Sweet Taboo this morning that has notes of cardamom, vanilla, cacao abs, coffee roast extract and incense. Pairs perfect with my FIL chai tea. It’s a perfect scent for todays weather.
I finished the book Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and last night I got a chance to watch the Hitchcock film. Lawerence Olivier gave me sweet dreams last night, he is so incredibly handsome.
Enjoy your chai! How long does your FIL visit for? I think it is so wonderful he comes and spends time with you and your family.
He will leave in a few days. I am sure you understand completely the bond between my FIL and my children.
How are you holding up? I have been thinking of you
Yes, I understand completely. So special.❤️
I think I am doing “okay,” moments of complete normalcy and moments of tears, which I suspect is normal. Thank you for thinking of me.☺️
It’s extra-very Finland, isn’t it?
Ha – yes. Perfect in your sauna!
Pretty stoked about last night’s Sephora run. Got a mini of the Kiehl’s Ultimate face cream and two lipstick sampler sets. Probably spent a little more than I should have but I love sample sets. Got two inches of snow last night with more on the way. Snowing pretty good right now and I am happy that I don’t have to work today. Debating on either vintage Mitsouko or SDV for today but about to review vintage Chanel no 22 extrait.
WOW, I envy your vintage Chanel No 22 extrait. Back in the day I owned a small atomizer of No 22. In recent years I obtained samples of the current formula and was deeply disappointed. My scent memory is very good and I was looking forward to that wonderful smell from the past. Instead, I barely recognized what I was smelling.
I don’t know how I managed to find an unopened bottle from either the 50’s or 60’s. I haven’t cracked the bottle open yet but have a sample when STC and TPC was still able to sell Chanel decants. Wish they still did.
Also, those sample sets/holiday sets at Sephora are way too tempting, I discovered over the weekend. I didn’t purchase one but I’m still daydreaming about them.
The vintage Chanels are gorgeous. I have No. 19 in Extrait and I treasure the few drops I have left.
I’m going to try someone else’s layering recommendation of Coromandel over Aftelier Ancient Resins.
Hmm… I think ElisaP layers that Ancient Resins with something…?
Half twin!
Yes, it’s CdG Ouarzazate + Ancient Resins. Never tried it with Coromandel, which is not in my collection.
Aha! I knew it was something, making a mental note of that one.?
Yep, that’s my favorite combination! Ancient Resins over Coromandel is a go-to!
It smelled nice but the Coromandel completely overpowered the Ancient Resins.
It is shocking how many things are improved by an underlayer of Ancient Resins 🙂
Now I have the “Everything’s better with Blue Bonnet on it” jingle in my head ?
Chanel No. 22 is white flowers over an incense base. Beautiful stuff…
Easy CP for me – I’m in Bois des Iles (Box of Eels) and it’s just right. Dark and rainy this morning. Had a lovely day off yesterday, back at it today.
In other news, I did succumb to the siren call of the BeautyHabit 20% off code and one of the items was the small holiday pine candle from Diptyque. I will post thoughts once I receive it.
Have you seen the Diptyque advent calendar on luckyscent? If I had money to burn, I would be all over that.
And of course you smell wonderful, that will be my SotD tomorrow.
Yep – looks super fun and way out of my budget!
If I did not own anything Diptyque, the advent calendar would be a fun one!
It would! Lots of goodies.?
Yay!
At first glance I thought this was a photo of prescription pill bottles.
There’s a band of lake effect snow parked right over us, at least 6″ just this morning. I have to say, it’s very beautiful.
Sotd is DSH Inner Sanctum. I only wear this in winter but today qualifies. If fall leaves weren’t still on some trees it would be just like January.
It looks like January here too! I wish it were, then we would be closer to spring.?
I was thinking that earlier, wishing it was closer to spring.
Maybe early winter means early spring, right?!?
“At first glance I thought this was a photo of prescription pill bottles.”-I see what you mean
Now I do too!
SotD is Coromandel. I get a herbal note when I first spray this one that is almost medicinal, it settles in quickly though.
This morning when I got up it was 5 degrees out. 5!! This is ridiculous for this time of the year. Guess it’s time to shrink wrap the windows. The only thing I don’t love about my old house are the old windows in the winter.
Thank you again to everyone for your kind words yesterday. I am truly touched by the outpouring of love.? Chin up today, the sun is out!
Coromandel is such a perfect cold weather perfume.
I agree! I just got a decant recently and I love it!
The edt is lovely but has anyone tried the edp version? I am saving pennies to get a bottle but don’t want to buy a bottle if the edp either outright sucks or drastically different than the edt.
I’m wearing the edp and I think it’s lovely, but I have never tried the edt so I am absolutely no help, lol.
I might bite the bullet and get a 4ml mini off of Ebay there is a seller that is selling minis on ebay but not quite sure how legit those minis are. There is so much counterfeit Chanel on Ebay.
Had to go back because I missed yesterday. So sorry to hear your news and my deepest condolences on your loss. What a privilege to be with her and surrounded by all those women and experience that outpouring of love. Your shared secret is beautiful beyond words.
Thank you LizzieB. We shared something very special and I was so lucky to have her.☺️
I read about your Gramma’s passing too late to leave a message. If one is going, that was a beautiful way of going. I had tears in my eyes when I read it and some fat drops did indeed fall. Big hugs to you and your family!
Thank you hajusuuri.☺️It was beautiful…heartbreaking, but beautiful.
I missed the Friday scent project announcement. I’d loved to have worn a Chanel! Instead, my SOTD is Diptyque Volutes because I needed something to provide the illusion of warmth. Good luck to everyone experiencing the arctic blast. It’s extremely unwelcome in the southern US.
Nice pick!
Wearing a light spritz of Cristalle. Had to have some medical stuff done today and didn’t want to overpower the radiographer with my sillage.
You smell lovely! 🙂
I’m in Winter Palace from the recent split meet. Perfect for today because the wind is absolutely screaming. Poor little T-Rex couldn’t potty fast enough this morning.
I love the opening of this perfume! The dry down yesterday day leaned a bit masculine on me, but not so much that I’m uncomfortable wearing it. But the OPENING…! ?
We switched hotels because the other night, after work I took doggo outside to a patch of grass behind the hotel, when a car suddenly came screeching into the parking lot, slammed on the brakes, slid to a stop, at which time a guy jumped OUT of a near by dumpster, banged open the surrounding fencing, ran to the passenger side of the car and dove in. The driver laid down some rubber as it peeled out of the lot. I hope they didn’t leave a body behind! ?
That wind would drive me mad. Something about wind really stresses me out. When I was little I was afraid of it.
The guy was actually IN the dumpster?! Yikes.
I was wondering the same! sounds like a crime series scene!
I’m hoping it’s not a crime scene. If it wasn’t so dang cold, I might have checked the dumpster for a body or body parts, but it was frigid..?
Yes, IN the dumpster! It happened so fast, I hardly had time to blink. WHOOSH! The dumpster lid slammed open and he popped up and out like a jack In the box! ?
And yes, the wind, which I’ve always LOVED, I have now begun to HATE! It’s worse than the low temps, IMO. I can hear it moaning and screaming around the hotel. Poor T-Rex was trying to potty while keeping her head down, eyes closed, and ears squinched tight to her head. Poor doggo. I feel like a horrible dog mom. ☹️
My dog Sprocket used to be very scared of the wind ( would cower and stop walking) . We get hit by fronts coming up from the southern ocean / sub Antarctic that pack a punch but your weather sounds truly desolate. Glad you’ve changed neighbourhoods…not long till freedom , eh? How many more shifts now?
It’s the final countdown now! Only 8 more, last shift is Thanksgiving here in the US. ?
Mine has no fear of anything other than thunder and rumble strips. She’s bold as brass?
You be careful, Deva! It’s a world gone mad out there!
Ha, yes, it’s a mad, mad, mad world! (Loved that movie!) But also, downright hysterical and amazing?
Poor dog. I bet she will be glad to get back to Florida.
The wind is the worst! I’m from the Prairies originally, so completely understand. I went back there one summer, and the howling wind made my hair hurt.
You can’t make the stuff up! Smart move changing hotels.
Yup! Plus, this one is cheaper, has free breakfast, and the folks love my doggo. She got a lot of love when we checked in. ??
She sure looked adorable in her dinosaur hat!
Aww, thanks! The get up made me laugh but she was pretty disgusted with the whole idea. ?
Dinosaur hat? Did I miss it?
Good to hear that you have landed in a nicer place. I love T-Rex’s new head gear by the way, it suits her. Just a few more shifts and you can move to warmer climes.
Yes, I will make a beeline south to warmer temps and then meander East at my leisure. Can’t wait!
Oh yeah, time to move. Although maybe its some weird survival thing to wait inside the dumpster to escape the wind. I only remember driving through Laramie and being shocked by the wind…which I was told is pretty constant. I can see how it would make people a little nutty.
Love T-Rex’s dinosaur hat. Mighty cute.
Thanks! It IS shocking because it NEVER stops! And it’s not a gentle, undulating breeze. It’s straight up trying to cut you in half with its knifelike edge! ??
Wait what? Good call on changing hotels. Yikes!
Flopper, every time I see your avatar, I can’t help but smile. It’s like a visual antidepressant. I really don’t know how you could find a better avatar. It’s perfect!
Oh gosh, you’ve made my day thank you. I like the bright colors. ?
Wow, glad you switched hotels! In your meandering back east, if you just do happen to be in the vicinity of New York City, you know a bunch of us would love to meet you and T-Rex!
Regarding the opening of Winter Palace, does it resemble Hermes Galop?
We may head to the northeast this spring. Or I may go back to Oregon! Still my favorite state. But I want to hit up Arizona and New Mexico, too…!
I’ve never smelled Galop. I have no idea why, but it just never piqued my interest, so I’m not sure if they are similar…?
That whole Dumpster business is just too weird! Glad that you decided to bug out to another hotel after that bit of crazy.
I hear you on hating the wind. I had forgotten that it blows all the time in SE Idaho and in Wyoming. I was reminded when I had occasion to visit both states in the past 15 years. I did not miss it one single bit.
My brother never had kids, and doesn’t know the pinochle song, so no twinning with your mom on those counts.
Lucky for your brother! It’s not really called the pinochle song, though. The proper name is The Hearse Song. It’s one of many odd songs my mother thought was appropriate to sing to small children…?
Not for those with weak stomachs!
https://youtu.be/NMsxTUkEfQw
Twilly …a gift from Alex when he was in Melbourne recently. Nice work! I was at the vet yesterday and was told that this Summer will be a bumper flea season. I don’t know why. It is certainly a bumper rabbit season from my own observations, non scientific.
5.30am and listening to the birds, waiting for sunrise so I can walk the dogs.
I’m about to ask a dumb question-
So, in the fall, I would say, the birds are flying South for the winter. Would you say that too? Or do the birds fly north for winter? I kinda pretend that my singing birds are there and will come back in my spring.
Not a dumb question! So, we don’t have a lot of migrating birds ( as in starlings etc.) but so e of our estuary and sea birds migrate huge distances. The wading bird, the Godwit, flies north to Siberia for example . The young albatrosses head out to sea for around three years before coming back to land. So most migration is sea birds: terns, skuas, petrels ….In my garden I can hear a shining cuckoo that flies over from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific every spring , to lay its eggs in grey warbler nests, and then returns back home. So, basically birds go north if they leave at all.
New Zealand has a bird of the year competition every year and this year it is the Hoiho, yellow eyed penguin . There are less than 200 nests of these penguins on the NZ mainland and they are declining…change in sea temps affects food sources. Beautiful bird and I have seen them on our beaches.
http://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/yellow-eyed-penguin
The rarest penguin the world and will probably be extinct in NZ the way things are going
I’m thinking we will not be far behind…?
Thanks for answering. I think birds are so fascinating.
Our winters aren’t brutal like yours so garden birds can just tough it out. There are also a few estuary birds that go from the south island to the warmer north…but geese etc stay put.
I did not know that NZ had penguins. How interesting!
Here too. Plus, tick species are being seen further and further north, extending their range like never before. Thank You, global warming. Do you have ticks in NZ? If not, you’re very lucky because they carry some really nasty diseases, including the rare but becoming more common Powassan virus…☹️
Ticks tend to be a really big problem for sea birds, black billed gulls and to a lesser extent sheep and cattle but not humans …so no Lymes disease etc.
Hi all, SOTD is L’Ombre dans l’Eau EDT by Diptyque. Spicy Bulgarian roses, greens, blackberries, and black currant. 🙂
The hubby is seeing the cardiologist today, two weeks ago, he blacked out with chest pain and other MI symptoms, spent two days in the hospital; we’re both a little nervous about today’s follow-up visit but hopefully, we’ll know more about what’s going on and can proceed with a game plan..
Oh gosh, wishing him good luck and good health!
I hope you get some helpful information to put your mind at rest. Good luck.
Best wishes for good news and a positive game plan!
Well, that must have been pretty unsettling! Hope they are able to figure out and fix the issue. ❤️
Oh dear. Keep us posted!
Scary and fingers crossed for you!
Best wishes to your husband. Hope everything goes fine!
Oh no, how scary for both of you! I hope the appointment goes well.
I hope the follow-up went well!
Yikes! I hope that today’s appointment had good news for Mr. SmokeyToes.
Well the results are in. Kevin has a hole in his heart which can be fixed with a cardiac catheter procedure. Pretty straight forward stuff. Fortunately, he has good insurance and we can go to UCSF. The difficult part will be that the doctor has said he can’t drive. So I’ll be driving him back and forth to work before I head to work myself. He’s on call in December so each time he gets a call, I’ll be driving him. His next follow up is December 10th, not too long to hang on, I’ve been through much worse.
That’s great news that they can deal with it rather quickly. Sending healing thoughts out to you both.
Glad to hear it is something fixable and you have good insurance. He can always take Uber/Lyft in a pinch.
Very glad it was not worse news SmokeyToes.
I am in Coromandel heaven, wearing Coromandel extrait layered with the edt.
We had the first snow storm of the season, I needed lots of warmth and comfort, had to walk to work !!
Reading a new book , Manam from Rima Elkouri who is a journalist at La Presse.
Yum, what’s the extrait like?
I love the extrait, stays closer to the skin, layers really great with the edt, I find it is a light version of the edt.
I am so jealous that you have the extrait. Hopefully I will get a bottle in the nex year.
Chanel No 19 Poudre, layered with No 19 body lotion.
6 am, the bus came for my daughter, and broke down in front of my house.
It was like 15 degrees and the bus driver asked if she could come inside while we wait for another bus. Of course I said yes. But my house was a mess, I was barely dressed. It was very uncomfortable. I’m not very good at small talk, and she kept talking to herself and I never knew when she was actually speaking to me. An hour and a half later, the second bus came !
Sotd is Shalimar edc, because it called my name.
Wowzers! Thank good there wasn’t already a whole busful of loud children nattering away..
Pretty sure everyone’s house is a mess, so I wouldn’t give it a second thought.
More concerning is the bus driver talking to herself…!
I was thankful it happened before my daughter was on the bus. It would have been worse if they were somewhere they couldn’t stay warm.
Exactly! Is your daughter the first pick up, so the bus was empty?
Yes, the first one. Last year the bus did break down with her on it, we went and got her off.
That was really nice of you. Does sound super awkward, though. Was she talking to herself or maybe using a bluetooth thingy. Cuz like Deva said, that might be concerning…
She was talking to herself about how stupid the bus company is and a certain coworker. I kept saying Huh? And what? And she would say she was just talking to herself. So I quit acknowledging any talk, but then at some points, she actually was talking to me. Ugh, time was moving very slow here this morning.
So glad that your daughter could wait inside for another bus to show up, rather than out in the cold! You’ve had some misadventures with buses for sure.
Smelling great, lillyjo! Wow, what a weird situation earlier with the bus driver.
In the love child of Prada and Guerlain– those Italian/French babies are gorgeous (and in this case from the Dominican Republic!). Espirit d’Oscar for today. The best kept cheap treats secret! I may even buy a back-up bottle, which I never ever do.
PS Please ping me if you are in the CONUS and would like to sample the Arielle Shoshana Sunday. I’d like to pass along my travel-spray! ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net
I will email you about it! Thank you for your generosity!
Someone has already called dibs for my sample, but I know someone else who would like to pass on her own sample, so ping me anyway and I will put you in touch (she reached out to me specifically to say that I should do this—you are not putting anyone out in the least!!!)
Oh wow, ok! I sure love the perfume community. ?
I’m wearing Eau Premiere EdP today and it’s wonderful. I tend not to wear Chanel mainly because it seems to wear me, but this is more gentle. Suffering after-effects today of a truly dreadful Mexican lunch at the restaurant yesterday next door to the tire repair store. Ugh, I’ve never tasted such awful Mexican food–everything tasted somehow sour, including the Mexican rice and charro beans. I did manage to drive my newly-tired (re-tired?) car out to visit Mom yesterday and we had an extremely nice visit. She’s so often very confused and repeats herself so much that it can be difficult. I was reading in my care-givers notebook (from the workshop) about how people with dementia can retain verbal skills that actually extend beyond their true mental capacities and that their lives present themselves with increasing levels of confusion about everything, a lack of the ability to understand order and cause-and-effect, etc.; and somehow this did help me manifest more patience. We don’t have snow here but our temperatures dropped by 30 degrees and a freeze is forecast for tonight–pretty rare here and I’ll have to bring some tender plants indoors (exciting for the cats, who will make a mess of things).
Yuck on the food. I had a doctor friend who once said those with dementia can retain quite good social skills in conversation such that strangers don’t see the confusion that easily. I still remember the moment that I realized my mom was truly confused. It immediately changed my attitude and, as you said, helped me be a bit more patient.
Montezuma’s revenge is no joke! Watching a cognitive decline in a loved one is worse than than watching a physical decline, IMO. I’m so sorry you’re having to see your mom go through this. It’s heartbreaking.
I’m glad you had a nice visit with your mom. My gramma had dementia too and like Deva said, it is heartbreaking. My mom had a harder time with it than I did and she read a book called The 36-Hour Day which she found very helpful.
Yes it’s great! I read it last year and bought copies for my brother and my aunt.
Ew on the bad Mexican food! It sounds truly horrible.
I’m wearing the sandalwood/burnt speculoos goodness of FM Dries van Noten. I sure got a lot of mileage out of this 3.5ml sample- it’s like 4 years old already! I miss those deluxe samples they used to give out.
Yes, I’m still thinking about that one! I last wore it more than 5 years ago I think, and it’s always in then back of my mind. You smell fabulous!
Thank you! It’s a good one.
Ohhh you all, I’m gonna have to get a decant of this!
May have been mentioned, but Netflix has a really great documentary “Dries”, which I found really interesting.
That doc has been on my watch list. I’ll get to it one of these days…
I think the perfume is great- I like it because it’s not overly sweet or foody (I don’t like gourmands). It’s one of the few perfumes I wear that gets compliments ?
Thanks for your reply from yesterday. Money saved!
Not gonna do it? Might be worth just getting a small decant.
I’m glad that you mentioned “burnt” as a note in DvN. There is something in it that seems really dissonant to me, but I could never pin down what that something was.
I am twins with Kanuka in Twilly today. It’s cold, overcast, and rainy here and Twilly is cheerful and light. I made a date cake yesterday from a cookbook that one of the GBBS bakers, Chetna, wrote. It turned out really well. I might make some more things from it. Unusual spice combinations, but what is the British obsession with jam? Jam in almost everything dessert-ish.
Hmmm date cake- I’m intrigued lol
I really liked Chetna so much and was glad when she won!
same here. and i love the show!
I have one of the GBBS cookbooks and noticed the same pattern of jam or jam glaze on cakes. Maybe it pairs well with tea?
Anyway when the combo works, it’s terrific. I loved how this turns out https://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/sticky-orange-marmalade-cake
The British and jam….We had steamed puddings with jam, jam tarts, rice pudding with a dollop of jam, jam butties…always jam! I think jam was my mum’s idea of fruit …if we ever had good luck my parents would call us a ‘jammy bugger’.
SotD was Satori
Now I am wearing Black Knight (F.Bianchi) from a sample.
First impression: a slightly herbal and smoky leather thats slowly getting sweeter. Very nice.
Oohh, Sounds nice!
You smell great! And Black Knight sounds good, too.
Smelling lovely in 31 Rue Cambon EDT. I’m all of a sudden smelling similarity to YSL Nu, which I also love. Yesterday I doused myself in Coromandel EDT since I had the day off work.
My Sonoma Scent Studio order arrived yesterday, and I’m pleased to report that the 3 perfumes I’d already smelled before smell the same as when Laurie was running the company. The only perfume in my order that was a blind buy was Bee’s Bliss. Just based on opening the atomizer to sniff inside, I think it will be a major love. It’s gorgeous honeyed florals.
That’s great to know about SSS.
Thanks for the report. I was waiting to hear from someone that the perfumes were not reformulated. Wonderful news!
We are twins today!
Smelling great today!
Oh, excellent news on no reformulations for SSS! So tempting to order samples and break my no buy…
Continuing my vintage week with Shalimar EdT, propably from the seventies in a splash bottle. Must wear this more often.
In the evening got a parcel with Courreges Empreinte, another blind buy. But thankfully i like it a lot. Even the boyfriend did not wrinkle his nose?
Dinner was shakshuka from our own bell peppers.
Smelling awesome today. And I LOVE shakshuka!
Finally checking in! BRRRRRR it’s cold in Atlanta….it’s not natural down here! 🙂
All warm and cozy in Eau de Merveilles. Salty orange goodness that totally works, and is still going strong 8 hours into my day. LOVE THIS STUFF!
Stay warm out there peeps!
we are cold here too! You smell like a salty sea sunshine goddess
Smelling great today, Jada!
Temps have plummeted with freezing rain. I went with Chanel Beige because it was warmer this morning.
Beige is stunning. You smell amazing.
I really love it. I don’t know what I’ll do when my decant runs out. I don’t like the EDP nearly was much.
Yuk for freezing rain! At least you smell great!
? You must feel lucky to be avoiding the winter weather.
I guess you had something similar today? My car was encrusted in ice when I left work.
Definitely had rain early this morning, but not sure if any of it was frozen. I didn’t notice any ice on the sidewalk when I took out the trash around lunchtime.
YUK and double YUK on the freezing rain! ?
Received my first ever Sonoma Scent order. Winter Woods. It was nicely packaged and a kind note was included. Very pleased. I like WW, will really try it out later.
Enjoy!
So far, all the news coming from people who have ordered from the resurrected SSS is promising!
It snowed lightly for about 3 hours late this morning into the afternoon. Nothing stuck, though. Record breaking low temps are expected for the overnight hours. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! ⛄?
SOTD = back in Oriza L. Legrand Oeillet Louis XV EdP. Carnations are a good pick for cold weather, IMO.
We had record breaking low temps last night too. It is way too early for this weather!?
Totally agree with too soon for this much cold! The local weather guys and gals were saying that the temps for the next couple of days would be like January, not November. Bletch!
Shalimar edp yesterday and Prada Candy today. In the mood for cozy! I’ll get onboard with the Chanel tomorrow!
Prada Candy is definitely a good pick for cozy!
I’ve been hesitant to try Carré Blanc because of the orris notes (which are too scary for me), but decided to wear a spritz today. So far I’m not a fan.
On me it starts out with a blast of very ugly burned vetiver, almost pot-like. Once that’s over it was pistachios and stale walnuts, that sort of metallic inside-the-shell scent. It’s been a half hour now, and I smell like hay and walnuts. This might be nice outdoors, but it’s a little overwhelming for a desk-day.
Anyone else tried Carré Blanc and had a better impression?
I have not tried it, but I do love iris. “Ugly burned vetiver” does not sound compelling though!
Snow here today = Alahiiiiine.
Ugh..snow. Someone remind me why I live in New England…
Nursing a cold ? can hardly smell anything. Wearing and can barely detect Yoyogi.
I’m with you on that one. My husband is recovering from a nasty cold but he shared it with me! He’s on the upswing and I am sinking down. Feel better!
Thank you Petunia! Feel better as well.
SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs 31 Rue Cambon EDT
So elegant, so polished!

In the realm of truly useless sign: at the mall “Will be back in 10 minutes” (no start time)…the 10 minutes could have started 20 minutes ago!
It is brrrrrr cold here in NJ but we did not get any snow. Thank you Mother Nature and let it remain so, pretty please!
How true! I guess the 10 minutes starts at whatever time you looked at it!
You smell great!
Light snow for me today, but nothing stuck. The wind was blowing it all over the place. ?
I saw a sign last Sunday that said the store I wanted to go in opened at “10-ish”, which was annoying but I was in a beach town, so…
Anyway, on that day it opened around 10:20.
Enjoying some Chanel No 19 edp tonight. We had a bit of snow this morning too; thankfully it’s all melted now. Hoping for rain only going forward!
I’m so in the holiday spirit this year, much more than usual, and have been since Halloween. This morning I reached for 4160s Centrepiece and have had “Here Comes Santa Claus” in my head since I woke up. 🙂
