Happy Almost-Friday and United Nations Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm going with Imaginary Authors O, Unknown! — probably an overly literal match with the Chinese metalwork above, but it also smells good.
Reminder: on 10/25, for International Artist's Day, match a fragrance with an artist or work of art, and tell us about it!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Garment Plaque with Three Stags, 1st–2nd century, Northeast China via The Met, public domain.
Aedes Iris Nazarena today.
It reminds me of the darker, more silvery-hued Camille Corot landscapes.
Yum, you smell great TriesToBeClassy!

I bet you are having chai this morning!?
Dear Madtown, I am! How did you know? HA!
My FIL makes the best! My MIL is now here also so both kids are happy.
?
Speaking of my FIL ,
Yesterday Chubby Buddha (who will be 4 this Jan) said to him “Grandpa I think about you everyday and wish you lived closer”
I saw my father in law over by the window and he was so touched by my son’s love for him he had tears in his eyes. I saw him kept lifting his glasses and wiping his eyes. So tender.
That is such a precious moment!
How sweet!
That’s so precious. Grandparents are very special people.?
This made me tear up, as it reminded me of my mother when my kids were young. Very sweet ltsg.
What a sweet Buddha! 🙂
So sweet! Grandparents. I envied my cousins who grew up in the same small town with each other and with my grandparents.
Awww. Thank you for sharing.
Very touching. You raised him well.
Did anyone else look at the metalwork photo and think “it’s a cookie!”? Just me? Anyway, I’m in Indochine today, just because.
Yes! I thought it looked like a cookie too!?
That’s so funny!!
What I was struck by is that it looks so 1930s, and it’s so not.
Here I was thinking it looked medieval..!
Speaking of old clothes I just read this really interesting article… and you can listen to it too:
https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as-it-happens-tuesday-edition-1.5330601/remnants-of-queen-elizabeth-i-s-sole-surviving-dress-discovered-in-a-rural-church-1.5329408
Wow, very engrossing — thanks for thelink viridiaan!
I did..I thought it was a cookie. But my mind always thinks of food first.
Thought belt buckle.
yep, me too.
Thirding the belt buckle
Yep – same here! I was hoping it was a belt buckle… cool design.
Same here.
+1
Good morning Y’all….
Decided to go the risky route and pick a random Scentbird sample this morning. Randomly landed on Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude and enjoying it very much! I forget how pleasant and easy this one is to wear…..
You smell nice 🙂
Yes it is.
Oh you smell lovely!
Post shower, and going commando at the moment. I’m planning on wearing a very “fall” sweater today, full of gold and brown interwoven colors, and so I think I’ll eventually go with something ambery, like Ambre Narguile. Do y’all choose perfume to go with your clothes, or with your mood?
I think more mood, so clothes end up matching anyway!
I go with mood, or sometimes what I want to change my mood into.
I choose according to weather.
I like to clash my perfume sometimes, pinks and purples with a fougere, etc.
Wearing Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser over a Bath and Body Works sweet lotion, something with toasted marshmallow, attempting to recreate Replica By the Fireplace. Smells good!
There must be something to the B&BW lotions because cazaubon likes them, too!
I’m wearing Luctor Et Emergo today, one of the few gourmands that I enjoy.
Oh yum.
Baby, it’s cold outside! I’m warming up with my old friend Chergui, some serious vehicular heat, and boiling hot coffee.
I’m pretty much running on empty after three days of nonsense, so my only goal today is to get the pupster some good exercise and stay toasty! If I feel a bit of extra energy (very unlikely) I may clean out and reorganize my clothes “closet.”
Life in the fast lane, people! ?
Enjoy your day off! And stay warm!
Thank you!
Quick FYI and PSA: the BeautyLish event is still going on.. today’s the last day I think. ?
I didn’t even know there’s such a thing so money saved ?. Hope you ant T-Rex are keeping warm!
Just learned about it myself. Spend $100 and get a $20 gift card. Only good at their site of course, but still! If you like high end makeup and such, 20% off is nothing to sneeze at. I also just rec’d a 20% off Twisted Lily email…?
Made me smile Deva!
Wearing Chêne by Lutens. I had to get rid of an awful load of parafilm as I try to protect my Lutens bottles from evaporating under my eyes. Pretty bottles, but lacking in something apparently.
Chêne is gorgeous, I wish I could think of a woody painting to go with it.
Hi five, house twin!
Just noticed that you were wearing Chergui. I hope it will help to keep you warm and toasty!
Perhaps a forest photograph instead? Photography is an art, too!
Chene is so nice. And I’m really not much of a Serge fan, so there’s that. 🙂
I’m not either. But his bottles really get on my nerves. So pretty and so useless 😉
It’s because of the optional sprays, and therefore the lack of crimping. My bottles are all evaporating.
Yup, my 50ml of Tubereuse Criminelle has a tendency to float away.
SotD is White Cube.
This has been an emotional roller coaster of a week for me. I got a call from my mom last Friday afternoon telling me that my beloved granny has stage four adenocarcinoma. I’m devastated. This has come as such a shock to me and my family. She went into the hospital to make sure she hadn’t broken anything in a fall and came out of the hospital with a cancer diagnosis. I’m still trying to process everything. Hospice was contacted immediately and has taken over her care. I got in the car Saturday morning and drove to see her. I spent the afternoon and evening with her and stayed until she was tucked into bed and sleeping for the night. I visited for a bit on Sunday morning before I needed to come home for the week. This is my first experience with having a loved one in hospice so I don’t know exactly what to expect and I felt a real sense of urgency with needing to see her. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but she was only 41 when I was born and was almost like a second mother to me when I was little. We lived with my grandparents for a time when my parents were finishing college and working and I went everywhere with her. We have a very deep bond, I was the first grandchild and at the risk of sounding like a narcissist, I have always been her favorite. I’ve been saving her voicemails for the last 6 years because my head has known this day would come, it’s my heart that is having a hard time with it. I’m trying to remind myself how very lucky I’ve been to have had her in my life for 51 years, I know some people don’t even get half that.
Sorry for the long and rambling post, thanks for reading perfume friends. Hugs to you all. And hugs to grammas everywhere.☺️
Hugs, madtowngirl.
Thank you Glannys.
Oof, that must be rough to get such an unexpected diagnosis out of the blue. Hugs to you and yours
Thanks goddessrena. Yes, I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. One day at a time.
I’m so sorry Madtowngirl. I know how hard this is for you. Sending a big hug.
Thank you lillyjo, I’ll take it.☺️
Oh geez, so sorry to hear that news! Spend as much time with her as you can.
The hospice question is tricky because they are not standardized across the country. My father was in Hospice (pancreatic ca) and I also worked at a Hospice in Florida for a time. They have great support for both patient and family.
I have no baseline when it comes to hospice, but I was impressed at how quickly they took over. My mom will be with her daily and will keep me updated everyday.
Thank you.☺️
madtowngirl,
just go and be with her and the wonderful teams at hospice will help guide your every step and question.
My sister- the first grandchild- spent much time with my grandmother as a child and they too had a special bond.
Both my parents had hospice care, your grandmother is in practiced loving hands.
And you have us to help hold you up, if only virtually.
Thank you for your kind words apsara.
I’m so sorry to hear about this. It’s hard and you were good to go visit her so quickly. I was also a first-born grandchild and close to both of my grandmothers. It’s a special relationship. Hope you find that the hospice care she is receiving is good; I have seen some very good cases of it.
It has been such a special relationship. I have heard that hospice can be a blessing, that’s all I can hope for.
Thanks Calypso.
Such a difficult time for u madtowngirl..sending u perfumed hugs.
Thanks mayfly.
Oh, so sorry mtg! I hope she gets the best possible care where she is. Such a beautiful relationship you two have. My husband had a similar relationship with his Granny… Sending you hugs and comfort.
Thanks ElisaP, I’ve been so lucky to have her in my life.
So sorry to hear this news.
Thanks Coumarin.
So sorry. And so glad you’ve had your grandmother this long.
Thanks mals, I’m so glad too, I will miss her terribly.?
I am so sorry!
Handing you a virtual cup of my father in laws chai tea..
I also had a special bond with my grandparents. I was blessed with 2 grandmas on my Dad’s side, his real mom and step mom. My daughter has my step grandmothers name as her middle name.
When my father passed away I wished I had saved his voicemails. I miss his voice so much..I still have his emails though and look at them every once in awhile.
Thank you ltsg. That’s lovely that you gave your daughter a name after your grandmother.
I started saving my grandmas voicemails because some of them made me laugh. I’m glad I will always have her voice with me.☺️
You’re doing the right thing, spending as much time as possible with your beloved grandmother. You must be a great comfort to her.
Thank you Aurora, she is always happy to see me, and I am always happy to see her. I think we comfort each other.
I am so, so sorry to read this, mtg. Sending you my love.
Thank you Koyel. I’ve been thinking about you lately, sending my love right back to you.☺️
<3
I’m sorry madtown. I can’t imagine how difficult this must be especially given how close you are
Thank you yasmina.
What a shock – sorry you have to go through this. I hope you get to spend a good amount of quality time with your grandmother and that she’s in no pain!
Those are the things I hope for too. Thank you Eschmeling.
I’m so sorry about this development. I will say my brief experience with hospice for my dad was great. So helpful. What a joy to have her in your life for so long, but yet it’s never long enough, is it? Sending hugs to you.
Thanks LizzieB. No, it’s never long enough…
Glad to hear good things about hospice, I hope my gramma is in loving hands.
I’m so sorry that you are going through this.
I’m going to echo that each vision or version of hospice is very different. If your grandmother is in a nursing home, rotating shifts with family members would be ideal. She would have a familiar face all the time.
Just being there is the most important thing. For you and your grandmother. What a wonderful relationship you both share. You are not a narcissist, rather a highly insightful and grateful person. Peace and love.
Thanks AnniePerfumes. She is in a nursing home and we will all try to spend as much time with her as we can. Even when I can’t be there physically, I know she knows how very much I love her.
I’m so sorry. Hugs to you, madtowngirl.
Thank you Holly.
Adding more hugs…you are indeed lucky to have had her in your life for so long, but that makes it even harder now.
Thank you Robin. You are right, I’ve never known life without her.
I’m late to posting today but I just wanted to send you a big fragrant hug! My grandparents partly raised me too and I wish more than anything that I’d recorded them telling some of their life stories. My heart goes out to you and I’m glad you get to spend time with her now.
Thank you Catanosmia.
So sorry madtowngirl. Sending hugs to you and your granny.
Thank you Petunia, hugs appreciated.
So sorry for the sadness you are feeling, madtowngirl. Having hospice care for your grandma is really the best possible scenario for end-of-life care. Being with her and telling her that she is loved and leaves a mark on this world is your best possible gift.
Thank you ScentSpirit, I appreciate your words. My family has always been big on I love you’s and that’s how we’ve always ended every visit, phone call and letter. I hope when she leaves this world she will remember how very much she’s been loved.
What a shock. Sending you fragrant hugs and warm thoughts as you navigate this transition with her.
Thank you cazaubon.
Hugs to you, madtowngirl. I’m so sorry about this turn of events. I will echo what many have mentioned about your grandma being in good heads with hospice. The hospice will also help her family deal with the situation.
Thanks hajusuuri. I’m happy to hear so many positive things about hospice.
I’m so sorry about your news. That is alot to process in a short amount of time; sending you hugs.
Thank you Gail.
Sending you a hug. I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. It sounds like you have a really special relationship.
Thank you therabbitsflower. We really do have a special bond, I will carry her in my heart always.
Hugs to you – enjoy her especially now. I am sorry,
.
Thank you AngelaB.
Flying through my morning in Timbuktu. Trying to use my bottle up before I move to my new apartment. I’m being a bit lavish with it today. 🙂
Congratulations on the new apartment! Are you moving far?
Luckily no. Just far enough to need a mover for my three pieces of furniture that don’t fit in my hatchback.
Timbuktu for me today, too! Loving it in cold weather.
I love it too but wish it stuck around.
I’m wearing MPG Santal Noble from my brand-new bottle I just ordered from Luckyscent. My old one had been fully emptied. This is such a rich, warm, yet not sweet sandalwood. One of my favorites. I can also report that the bottle is beautiful! I have two other MPG’s that were in the gold bottles that came after the red ones but had the rather cheap-looking gem on the top that tended to come off quite easily. This has a much heavier top and a smaller, more elegant-looking red gem set into the gold. It’s gorgeous. Luckyscent also included four other sandalwood fragrances (at my request) which I will enjoy trying in the forthcoming days. This link may be too obvious, but I do like the box a lot (from etsy): https://i.etsystatic.com/7818262/r/il/68fec8/2034200829/il_794xN.2034200829_lhj3.jpg
That is a lovely box. Which other sandalwood samples did you get? I am sorely lacking in sandalwood perfumes and your SOTD sounds intriguing!
I will post about them tomorrow.
Meanwhile, here’s a picture with my new MPG bottle, and miscellaneous other assorted items! https://www.instagram.com/p/B4AUcZ_ppyh/?igshid=6cuhxuimi0y7
That box is beautiful!
beauty!
Such a pretty box! I love their bottles too.
Wearing Misia edt today, cosy and elegant for a grey and chilly day.
You smell wonderful!!
It is elegant. So ladylike.
Another really beautiful day had me in the mood for a bwf, so am wearing Carnal Flower. Paired it with this painting:
https://images.app.goo.gl/1c9Y1gDLy8Ksn1h16
OOOOOOOH.
AH! What a beauty!
Great pairing.
I went early this morning to the opening of Nordstroms (Columbus Circle), well..bad idea even at 9am..there was a line..a huge line. The street around that area was closed off and you couldn’t even move their was so many people. I got back on the subway and came home.
NY has so much shopping available, what made Nordstrom such a draw?
I know, right? I guess because it *wasn’t* here last week, lol.
Last year we got a Chick filet, the whole city shut down to stand in line, except for me, lol
They had a big thing going on for “early birds”…#so I’m sure that didn’t help. Seriously, I remember when the first Trader Joe’s opened here. Lines down and around the block. People were more proud of carrying their grocery bags than they were a designer purse….
We got a Nordstrom’s here in Toronto a few years back. I’d have preferred Trader Joe’s! Don’t know if that’s ever going to happen in Canada.
That is interesting about a Nordies opening at Columbus Circle. The city keeps changing and I am missing it all.
I have really great memories of a Filene’s Basement up on B’Way at about 80th (at the time we lived on 89th and West End). I found so many great outfits there and when I met my husband we outfitted him for all his job interviews and teaching gigs at Filene’s. He still occasionally wears a beautiful Missoni blazer we picked up for a student’s salary song over 20 years ago.
Well, it’s not necessarily changing for the better, so I don’t think you’re missing much. I remember that Filene’s! And Loehmann’s…
Oof! Yeah, I’m in no rush to get over there: I hate crowds and I’m not particularly fond of dept stores so…
Nice!
Great combination- I have never seen that one!
Solstice Scents fall samples have arrived! ? ?
Today I am trying Gibbon’s Mischief Night…notes are Sugar Cookies, Vanilla Frosting, White Chocolate Popcorn, Toasted Marshmallow, Graham Crackers, Gibbon’s Boarding School, Cream Soda, Bourbon, Pear Brandy
And….Gunnerson’s Pumpkin Patch…notes are Leaves, Vines, Autumn Air, Pumpkin Flesh, Lavender, Moss, Balsam, Tonka, Hay, Caramel, Dirt, Patchouli, Mushroom
I am enjoying both but preferring the GMN with my sweet tooth. ?
That sounds like some serious sweetness!
Just back from a lightning visit to my sister, who is now only 4 hours’ drive away at Ft. Lee, VA (as opposed to 10 hours’ at Ft. Drum, NY and 18 hours’ at Ft. Hood, TX). It is COLD right now, though it’s supposed to warm up into the 70s this afternoon. We have yet to turn on the heat.
Cozy in vtg. Emeraude.
Glad you can now visit your sister so easily. Vintage Emeraude is a treasure, you smell terrific.
Had a small perfume mishap this morning that only you will understand. It is already in the mid-70s here with high winds, and there are fires north (way north I should clarify) of us, and the heat is supposed to just go up and up. So, since I’ve set aside all my light, summery fbs, I went looking for something fitting for the weather among my decants. Fell upon Chanel’s Paris-Biarritz, which is really a very pretty citrus and white flower scent… got back from chores and decided I could spray with abandon. Did so. Except somehow I grabbed the wrong decant and now I am drenched in Journey–which is very nice but should not be worn at this volume, and definitely on such a warm day!
Thank you for reading this perfectly stupid little fragrance tragedy– a petit mal moment in my morning! Aaayyeeee!
Oy. I haven’t met an Amouage that I’d spray with abandon.
That is so true. Beloved? Ubar? Favorites, but not at 10 sprays!!
I thought I heard on the news this morning, more power outages in California.
Yeeeeeessss.. But this time people are feeling less annoyed by them. They seem more targeted. And, we do have a pretty scary wild fire out of control north of the Bay: https://www.sfchronicle.com/california-wildfires/article/Kincade-Fire-Homes-burning-in-Sonoma-County-as-14559121.php#
🙂 🙂 🙂
Oh yes, Journey is a powerhouse, all that apricoty honey, that’s a funny story though.
Speaking of Chanel, Oakland, did you see the No 5 body oil is back on Chanel’s site?
Nope. I try to avoid the site–it has an strange and powerful effect on my hand, which can unexpectedly grab a credit card and start punching in an order. Damned if I know why! 😉
What journey will you dare to take, all drenched in journey 🙂 ?
I know, right? What a Journey!! 💡
Hi Everyone!
Scent: I’m currently commando.
Currently:
I’ve been absent for a couple of months, due to the death of my mother-in-law in September. She turned 89 in August, and generally enjoyed good health until the past few months.
She was a widow, and my husband was an only child. We are in the clean out stage now, and doing the math, we have a woman born in 1930, so she was a child of the depression. This indicates a tendency to save things. She married in 1964, so she was single and working throughout throughout the 1950s. She evidently had a social life that included a few evening bags, gloves, some event programs and the like. Also, some fragrance.
Today’s find: a box set of Evening in Paris, with Talc, a small purse bottle, and a nearly full 1 oz bottle of the Eau du Cologne.
This is in addition to around 60 bottles of (mostly Avon) scattered fragrances that she had accumulated.
I could use some entertainment while I sort (it’s only me and my husband on this job), so I need to take a break and seek out some podcasts and/or audio books.
Have a great day!
I am so sorry for your loss!
My condolences to you and your husband.
Sorry for your loss and I hope the clean out goes well. Nice little slice of a life-gone-by. Thanks for sharing it!
Sorry for your loss!
I really like the BBC series “In our Time” (it’s on at our local NPR station Tuesdays at 9.30, just when I drive home from choir rehearsal). It has very little narration, which I like – more like audio documentaries.
Sorry for your loss. Sounds like an interesting collection…items from the ‘50s can be incredible,
My condolences to you both. I am also an only child so I can imagine how hard this is for your husband.
Just a recommendation: Check everything before you throw it out. When my sister and I were cleaning out my mom’s house when she moved to the nursing home, my sister found several hundred dollars stuffed in a cake mix box and I found a couple of thousand in a plastic bag with a stained old Canadian flag. Depression era ladies never quite trust the bank with everything.
I second that!
So sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing. My mom had a similar profile as your MIL but the only scented thing I found were pristine booklets of face powder that had lost their scent. She saved many things for a rainy day.
SOTD is Comme des Garcons Calamus from a sample vial. Why did it take me such a long time to discover this one?! Even though I like green fragrances I often feel like they smell a bit too angular. Calamus has nice smooth edges. Maybe that’s the “berries” listed in the notes.
I’d planned to wear B. Black today, as prompted by a poster from yesterday’s SOTD but I’ve got a crush on Calamus right now.
I have a sample of Calamus floating around. I like it- reminds me of some sort of sweet aloe beverage or something like that.
“It reminds me of…” are words I keep saying to myself but I just can’t figure out what it is!!
I always forget to wear Calamus…and I should keep it out anyway since it’s in an opaque bottle.
Commando at the moment while getting ready for work. Had an early morning appointment and didn’t wear anything. I think that it’s a vintage no 5 day and I will wear Mademoiselle tomorrow to see which one I should get for the travel sprays. My mother has a bottle, so we shall see how this goes.
It’s too bad there’s not a way to mix and match the set.
I’m smelling fancy today in TF Fleur de Chine.
Fragrance net had an unbelievable price yesterday on Hermes Galop. It would show in stock, then immediately out of stock, then back to in stock. I remembered some people here having their orders cancelled in similar situations, so I didn’t order it. I don’t love Galop enough for a ordering headache. Sure enough though, it switched to double the price quickly.
One of the most elegant scents, you inspire me to put my bottle at the front of the cabinet.
Yay!?
Hermes is a perfume house that I don’t get along with very well, but I do like Galop and the price is so reasonable for a refillable bottle on the website you mentioned. My issue has always been with the longevity and the price point, and sometimes they don’t agree on my skin. With that being said, I am enjoying Terre d’Hermes the past few days I have been wearing it. I don’t want to be an enabler but you will probably not see Galop at that price point, so I would jump on it if you love it.
That’s just the problem, although I like it I don’t love it. I would much prefer Cuir D’Ange.
Plus, like I said, the website couldn’t make it’s mind up if it was even in stock. Today I noticed they have the new Twilly for 29 dollars., but the description says sample vial. I think there are some glitches going on.
I was going to ask where I can get the metalwork and then saw it’s a museum piece!
SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDT layered with Tauer Dark Passage Tableau de Parfum
Overall, a superb combination of iris, tobacco, patchouli and birch tar!

It’s Sniffapalooza weekend and I am very excited! This also means I will miss day one of the Splitmeet. I am definitely splitting up to 30 mLs of Memo Paris Winter Palace @ $3.56 per mL plus atomizer cost ($0.50 up to 10 mLs) plus exact shipping based on your zip code. The cost represents a 20% discount, partially offset by NYC tax. If interested, please drop me an email with volume. If you are due to receive a freebie package from me, you do not need to pay the shipping cost for this split. Please do not send any payment until you get an email back from me requesting this.
I haven’t decided what else I’m splitting. I’ll likely split the Hermes travel sprays but will post that thread on Sunday for people to express interest in participation. Any requests because I may already have the virtually new bottle(s) because you know how naughty I am ????
Totally forgot about the split meet! And I have Saturday off, so I can actually participate. Count me in for 5ml of Winter Palace. Sounds right up my alley ✌?
Sounds good!
Mmm, Dark Passage. You smell fab
Thank you. I am hoarding not hoarding as I have 4 travel sprays but once it’s gone, it’s GONE.
Very tempting! Could you share what your other recent, splittable purchases were? 🙂
Potentially the TF Lavender Extreme and doing the math in my head considering its price and volume relative to Winter Palace, it will be ~ $5.34 per mL and not very cost effective since I got the the smaller size. I will hopefully be able to post a quick list in tomorrow’s SOTD.
That’s an interesting story you have in your IG post. When were you in Cuba?
So since U.S. passports are not stamped for entry into Cuba (I had a visa), I will just mention that it was sometime this decade before the current administration.
Meet you in Spring, maybe. I was supposed to go and life happened. ?
Looking forward!
I hope you do the Hermessence split! I would def be down for a bottle
I will take a note of this!
I will take 15 mls and pay for your mailing costs to Canada. What is your email?I should have it but if I do, I don’t know what I filed it under…
Hi ScentSpirit, just click on my name and you can see my contact details. Unfortunately, because I will have to fill out customs forms, I cannot send to Canada by declaring the contents as something that it’s not (less egregious if Indon’t have to fill out forms). Perhaps you can find a perfume mule?
Alack and Alas.
I tried Volutes edp the other day and it was so insubstantial, I had to spray something else right away. I need to try the edt to see if it’s any better, I know their edt/edp formulations differ.
They are different, both very good, and I prefer the EDT. I tend to overspray (6 today) and it lasted all day.
It’s cold in the morning now, so Molto Missoni today, probably my favorite cinnamon scent along with Organza Indecence. I’m not very interested in bottles but this one is so pretty, blue ombre with a red cap, even the shape is lovely.
I had to look this up. I love the bottle color. You have the coolest old school perfumes!
Thank you Lillyjo 🙂 so kind of you to say. You know, these Italian perfumes, Fendi and Missoni in particular are really worth looking for when still affordable; there is also Romeo Gigli, very affordable, very confusing names (vintage Romeo, a beautiful floral is the one to look for, I bought my first bottle when it first came out).
I went with Kyoto today. The drydown is a little dry for me. I also didn’t like Ouarzazate much. So far Jalismair is a winner but I have two more to try from the series.
We are near opposites on the Incense series then 🙂
Hurray for olfactory diversity!
Exactly.
Pure nonsense with our systems this past week, so I am Amelie Rose, because a happy fruity rose was much needed!
A mini city break is called for this weekend in Seattle!
So sorry about the pure nonsense!
I slept so hard last night but still woke up tired. Because of that and just having a bit of the blahs, I needed a cheerful perfume. Jour d’Hermes Absolu fit the bill and smells wonderful today.
Question for those who have a 75ml bottle of a Memo perfume. Does the top twist off to allow for easy decanting?
Also, I just had a thought. It would be cool if perfumistas could compile a list of which brands had bottles with twist off tops since those are the best to decant from. I confess that I have little patience for decanting with the spray method these days, especially because so much perfume waste has occurred due to non-ideal atomizers. Sometimes they leak and sometimes they spray wirh such force that the perfume rebounds out of the decant bottle.
House twins!
Feeling you on waking up tired. That’s ne on a daily basis. Well, you do smell great! That one of those I can wear when I’m not in the mood for anything else. I hope your day improved!
Thanks, I know you like this one quite a bit. The day is just ok. It’s a very slow one because the two coworkers I talk to the most in my department are both on vacation and a couple others I’m friendly with are working remote. A very quiet day that can’t end soon enough.
And sorry to hear you’re dealing with frequent tiredness too.
Sorry all your buds weren’t around. That can make for a long day ?
Satori bottles have screw top atomizers- at least my bottle of Satori did, which was great because I split off 1/2 of it.
My Memo African Leather top doesn’t come off. I’ve had to spray decant from it.
Thanks!
Lalibela doesn’t either.
Neither does Eau de Memo or Italian Leather.
Commando (but Otherland candle burning on my desk) and procrastinating – I have a workshop/meeting to get dressed up and ready for in an hour, and really must get some grading done beforehand -but I can’t quite make myself just yet!
Split meet announcement: I’m definitely offering a split for Olfactive Studio Flashback, which should be arriving today or tomorrow. Got it for a super price on Fragrancenet, but there will be way more ml than I’ll ever use, so hopefully there’ll be some interest.
What Otherland candle are you burning? And can you share your thoughts on it? I’m trying so hard not to buy more candles until I use up a few more, but Otherland is high on my list to buy next.
It’s the green one from the classic range – canopy.
I also have chandelier and I ordered a 3 pack last week (there was a promo code and I am planning to regift) of Rattan, Cardamon Milk and Tapestry.
I don’t have a lot of other candles and the main thing I’ll say is that they all smell nice. Super helpful, I know 🙂
Cardamon Milk smells very sweet and coconutty to me. This will likely become a gift.
Tapestry has a nice maple note and that one and Rattan would be most for my taste.
None of these are very pungent or obnoxious – they are pretty mild and I would say well blended (not fruit or flower forward like pumpkin or apple). They smell elegant and the packaging they come in is pretty darn nice! So good for gift giving. Of the candles I have smelled, they are, to me, better than the candles mostly found at TJ Maxx, but not as opulent smelling as the Cire Trudon candles (which I smelled in the store only). But they are not as potent as those high end candles.
Thanks, that is helpful. And it’s probably a good thing I didn’t know there was a promo code last week.
Piguet Bois Noir, oh what a gloomy scent. If I had known the weather would be nicer I would have chosen something else.
Shame about the mismatch!
Yay for almost Friday.
I’m wearing Bois d’Iris from Van Cleef & Arpels. It doesn’t disappoint.
It is very reliable, and I have worn it a lot to work this year.
Me too. All year round.
I love that one.
Commando this morning to transplant some of the herbs and flowers I have outside that had outgrown their pots. At various times, my hands smelled like pineapple sage, scented geranium leaves, and mint. I’m debating which of those I have room for inside. I’ll definitely try to save the zonal geraniums and maybe some of the tender ornamental salvias I grew this summer.
Early afternoon: Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange. I’m sure there are pictures of blood oranges by artists who liked to paint vivid colors.
Et voila:

Wow !! Those are wild. She is quite unique and very talented. What an unusual subject matter.
So sorry for the losses people in our community are experiencing.
I just put on a tiny dab of Joy. It is meant to tide me over until I get home, where there should be a package waiting for me containing… nope, I still dare not speak it’s name until I have it in my hands, but it’s an early Artisan by Ellena and I’m hoping the jasmine in Joy will mean it doesn’t clash.
I think I know which Artisan that is, enjoy! It is very, very lovely.
Oh, I think I know what it is! Nice one.
Meanwhile, you smell lovely! It is hard to beat Joy.
Continuing my Soivohle theme with Rosa Sur Reuse. I so wish this wasn’t discontinued!
Wore Hinoki to bed last night, I can still smell it on my t-shirt, if only I could teleport to an onsen in Japan. Planning on spraying some Elevator Music as it wears beautifully in warm weather. Have a lovely day everyone!
Oh, I will gladly teleport with you.
Commando. Doing some gardening and then off to surprise a dear friend. Gotta love old friends. She always asks what I’m wearing and has a sweet collection of her own, she just doesn’t wear fragrance.
After growing weary of recent pretty-but-fleeting office scents I broke out the big guns and am wearing ELO Rien. Meeting a friend for work after supper and with luck it will still be going by then.
Oh boy, I like Rien for the same reason!
Felanilla! Lasts all day. I can’t say that for many of my perfumes.
Providence perfume has a new scent coming out called Drunk on the Moon. The notes look good. Almost vintage inspired but who knows. I need a sample stat!
I saw that too! Curious. Let me know if you sample
Will do!
I just took Felanilla out tonight for my winter change up. You smell wonderful.
Thank you. You smell fancy today in Fleur de Chine! ?
Bal d’Afrique finally. Took me all day to put on a scent.
Made some soup yesterday where I just threw in a bunch of stuff…white beans, kale, cabbage, tomato, Italian chicken sausage, onions, carrots. Forgot the garlic. Anyway…went to pull some out for lunch and broth spilled in the fridge. Long story short…that led to me pulling out two shelves and a drawer and giving them a thorough cleaning. Yikes. Then I had to clean the floor….finally ate some soup, cleaned up a bit more and put on fragrance. I feel human.
Oh no! Glad you were finally able to eat and apply perfume!
Hot and dry here again, those hated Santa Ana winds. I am in a lethal dose of Guerlain Songe d’un Bois d’Été.
Oy with the hot and dry! I hope things improve quickly!
I sprayed on a couple sprays of La Pausa this morning for some fortitude, breaking the no-perfume rules at work. I may try again tomorrow. Happy Friday Eve everyone.
Sending out comforting thoughts for all those dealing with difficult situations now (who have been absent from NST).
Had to stop after work to get a new coffee maker and Foreman Grill; 2 of life’s necessities. We use the grill for mostly for cooking bacon (no splatter and it cooks on both sides without flipping). The one we had lasted for over 10 years, maybe more; it just stopped working in the middle of cooking a batch of bacon for Sunday breakfast!
