It's Tuesday and Jeff Goldblum's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I managed some shopping yesterday, but no perfume shopping. Today, commando again for another try. (Monday's evening perfume: Aftelier Ancient Resins.) Tea at the moment is Upton Tippy Colombian Organic.
Reminder: on 10/25, for International Artist's Day, match a fragrance with an artist or work of art, and tell us about it!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My SOTD is the lovely Heure Exquise, that I haven’t worn in a while. It suits autumn though, with its wistful character.
Tea is a Darjeeling Earl Grey.
You smell lovely!
I do love it
Oooh you smell amazing. I should go dig up my bottle!
oh lovely!
You smelled so wonderful today.
That one is perfect for any kind of fall day. Lovely!
Le Mat today
When I was reading some reviews about this one someone said “…Tutankhamun’s tomb of roses” so here is the art to match
https://images.app.goo.gl/ahFbg62n23UCVgrq9
Speaking of Egypt…I am going to be Cleopatra for halloween this year. The kids really wanted me to dress up. I am going to try to the the eyes..I am not gifted with makeup application. We shall see.
SipOTD is a cappuccino.
My FIL is driving down from Canada today, so praying to the driving Gods today that he has a good journey. Soon, it will be Chai tea time
Yay for chai tea time! Hope he has a peaceful drive.
Me too. He is no spring chicken so I worry a bit.
I have a decant of Le Mat heading my way. Super excited to try.
For me, it is very different then what I have in my small collection of perfumes and I will be sad when my decant is finished.
Let me know how you like it.
Cleopatra is a wonderful creation–have fun with the make up and pick something exotic for your scent.
I am open to suggestions, as long as I have it in my perfume wardrobe
oh, Egyptian eyes – the Nefertiti bust eyes (lots of black charcoal and call it good), Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra eyes (what’s a little more blue, more is better, right?) , the wedding eyes of some current Egyptian blogger girl (four layers of different colored highly irridescent pinks and tans, two different eye liners, two different mascaras – I watched one once – the effect was impressively flattering on her, but it was worth it just to be glad I didn’t have to go through that on a daily basis!) So many choices. 🙂
Wow! Apparently I must start watching these videos pronto! I have a lot of learn
Just google Egyptian Wedding Makeup, there are lots to choose from. 🙂
Does he share his chai recipe?
not with me..
🙁
Good on you for dressing up to please your kids! Is there any way we can see the result at least your eye make-up? Sounds so fun!
I will try to see if I can post a photo somehow
Your Halloween sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun this year! ?
Enjoy your FIL! I’m sure you’ll rock your Halloween makeup!
Continuing on my Soivohle theme by sampling Iris et Narcisse which is a bright happy spring green scent
That sounds lovely.
I saw your reply about Femme Seudo earlier today… thank you!
I’m wearing Tea for Two again. I’ve worn this one quite a lot this season, even with warm weather.
I know some people like that one better in summer.
That’s a good one! Smelling great!
Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile
You smell lovely and subtle.
thanks !
My SOTD is Fendi Extrait, easily in my top 10 perfumes of all time.
Had a great spin class yesterday evening, my instructor complimented me a while back on the perfume I wore (Samsara extrait), so I made a few perfume samples for her to enjoy, Amarige, Samsara, Shalimar, and Chance.
We’ll all meet with another instructor for dinner and perfume swap. It was quite a nice surprise and ending to my day.
Sounds like you are forming a nice scented friendship
You smell positively divine! Original Fendi easily in my top ten, or probably five also.
Thanks lillyjo! I find that perfume so comforting.
That sounds lovely! And so kind of you!
Ohh Robin, I adore Ancient Resins, you smell wonderful! I like to combine it with Chanel’s Coromandel.
I need to try that combo. I agree that Robin smells fantastic today!
sounds delish
It is a great layering agent in general, I find!
Wearing Le Labo Iris 39. It’s cold and damp and for me iris season has started 😀
a fortifying combo of PJ Tips + banana bread for breakfast today.
Smellin’ mighty fine! I’m doing iris week too!
I adore Iris 39, I don’t wear it nearly as often as I’d prefer. I should drag it out when the weather cools off a bit!
Oh, how I love Jeff Goldblum. I really enjoy his characters in Portlandia?
Rocky start to my morning- I was waiting for the subway when I realized I’d left both my personal and work phones at home so had to run home to get them. Missed a meeting ? Now I need a nap, lol.
SOTD is Cuir de Lancome which is lovely on this grey, misty day.
I hope your day improves and you smell lovely. It’s so nice to wear fall favorites again.
Thank you! It is nice to visit my cool weather faves.
It is mind-boggling that Jeff Goldblum is 66–and that the Big Chill came out over 35 years ago… tsk tsk tsk…
Ha! Transylvania 6-5000 was the 1st movie of his I saw in the theater.
I think for me it was The Fly.
That one was super creepy!
He is brilliant in The Fly. That’s a true love story with a super-tragic ending. It makes me sob. Gene Davis was also just brilliant in that. I love David Cronenberg’s films!
I also thought of the fly first. Some days ago I watched another Cronenberg film. Videodrome with James Woods and Debbie Harry
Oh, I also love Videodrome. Even more apt today than when it was first made!
I’ve never seen that one, but it is on our Amazon Prime movie watchlist. Will watch it soon!
It’s pretty campy!
Find a corner to nap..the weather isn’t helping
I think you included a sample of that one in my freebie package. I will have to try it
Yes, the weather is calling for naps! I love CdL-I hope you enjoy it, too!
Love Cuir Lancôme!
I do, too!
Rats, I hate it when that happens! I left Montréal without either of my cell phones as well and had to wait four days for my husband to arrive in the car with them. It was just like the good old days when no one knew where I was and I could just sit quietly and read.
Yeah, there is certain freedom there! I wouldn’t have gone back for my personal phone- can’t work without my work phone, unfortunately.
I hope your afternoon is calmer than your morning!
I’m in the Jeff fan club too; saw Jurassic Park and Big Chill, but really just prefer to adore his lower lip from afar.
It was calmer, thanks!
Hahaha ? I have a friend whose cousin looks just like JG. I did a double take the 1st time I met him!
You smelled wonderful today, even if you had a bumpy start.
Oh that stinks, forgetting your phones! At least you smelled great!
Ignoring the afternoon weather forecast for heat, heat, heat this cool morning, I am in Mitzah–the last from a large decant… It feels just right at the moment.
Almost done with Kanuka’s “Scented”—in the Top Notes. I’ve enjoyed this journey with Sian. (Although I recall she would hate calling it a journey.) If you have no idea what I am talking about, Sian is the protagonist of the novel “Scented”, who in spirit is one of us.
Jealous of your heat, it is grey & rainy here.
It is beastly hot, dry and windy here in San Diego. I hate this choking low humidity.
Vientiane which is sandalwood with jasmin rice pudding. It feels perfect for this damp dreary day!
Oh wow, that combination sounds interesting!
That sounds yummy!
You smell great, Petunia!
Oh my gosh that definitely sounds like something I need to sniff!
J’adore Le Touché just a smidgen before Pilates. I’ve fallen in love with reformer classes.
I *should* fall in love with those classes, I’m sure.
LOL same.
I have been wearing Mechant Loup for no real reason other than is smells chewy, and maybe tasty, am I crazy?
I like that one but haven’t ever thought of it that way. On the other hand, it includes various gourmand notes and perhaps seems tasty due to them. Or maybe the Big Bad Wolf is coming to bite you!!
Only in my dreams…
To me it’s nutty, maybe chewy nutty, either way you smell really good.
That’s it, nutty and spicy, good this time of year, just add apples and it would be dessert.
Nothing wrong with wearing a perfume that smells tasty.
I am wearing Promesse de L’Aube, which for me would pair best with a painting that everyone says is very beautiful, but which doesn’t excite me much. Probably a Monet water lily painting.
On the list of things that DO excite me, an eBay auction I won yesterday for a discontinued perfume I’ve been dying to try. But it hasn’t shipped yet… does anyone else do this thing where you don’t quite believe an eBay purchase is going to come true until you actually open the package? I’m not even saying what it is right now because in my paranoid mind the seller will google the perfume, read this, and realize they sold it to me for too cheap…
Knock wood and fingers crossed that you get your package! Fwiw, I agree you shouldn’t speak it’s name yet?
I hope that your package arrives quickly and intact!
Hope it ships and you have it in hand soon!
Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver.
Patchouli, vetiver and vanilla…oh my! ? ? ?
YAAAS!
And I’m happy to send you 5mLs from my FB.
I really want to try the Estate Vanilla. Do you like it as much?
Estate Vanilla is very good and I will probably get a FB. I have held off on FBs because there are several that I like and more left to sample so I am trying to be good and sample thoroughly first before I go crazy. I have used up most of my first batch samples ? so my EV sample is drained. I ordered several samples from the fall collection too. and those haven’t shipped yet.
My favorites that I’ve tried so far are below and there are others I like and still some I haven’t fully tested yet. I have been reading reviews online and they all say that SS perfumes need to rest and the owner/perfume mentions this on a card she sends with the order too and I have found it to be true. The samples really seem to bloom and come into their own after a few weeks so I have been trying to wait and revisit with limited success. ? but I have places 3 orders of samples now that have arrived so far hence many of the oldest are gone and working my way through the rest. Quite the strategy and long winded reply I know. ?
Blackburn’s Parlor
Blossom Jam Tea Cakes
Estate Vanilla
Foxcroft Fairgrounds
Nightgown
Rose Mallow Cream
Good girl for finishing your samples before buying. 🙂 I am in San Diego now so let me know when it’s convenient for you to meet up.
Dame Perfumery Rose de Mai. I haven’t worn a rose scent in ages, it was time. A little out of season, I know, but I just felt it today.
Oh, rose is never out of season!
There is always a perfect rose for whatever season we are in!
Omnia.
Have you bought your BUB yet ?
Went all out today with a generous application of Vol de Nuit parfum. I recently purchased 8ml from a fellow NSTer, so now I feel free to apply away!
You must smell divine, never tried the extrait, I have the vintage EdT only and adore it.
Never smelled the parfum, but I imagine it’s perfect!
SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT
https://www.instagram.com/p/B367JgKhDaT/?igshid=r7u7ckm9x2s4
That’s my silver-gray pillowcase. It gets wrinkled but not my face even when it’s smooshed against it.
Someone at work is wearing copious amounts of La Vie est Belle. I will strike up a conversation at some point.
Bad habits of people who walk – why in God’s name would anyone just stand on a street corner ramp texting away, oblivious to anyone or anything who or that needs to use it to get on to street level? Selfish and addicted to devices. Or how about reacting to breaking up with a boy or girlfriend yelling at the top of their lungs into a phone while walking? Yeah, I would break up with that person, too.
Your last sentence just made me laugh out loud while trying to eat the last bite of my burrito ?
I’m glad I made you laugh!
I have been smelling way too much of La Vie est Belle these days….there seems to be no escape. Has it become the go to scent for everyone who is NOT interested in fragrance?
I think LVEB works for some people, and, like Angel, my preference is a light hand.
LVEB is a weapon of mass destruction. And I agree on the bane of loud cell/oblivious text offenders.
LOL again ?
???
I’m really tired of people walking while on their cell, totally oblivious to their surroundings. So much so, I have installed an air horn app on my phone. There it is, ready for me to blast them into reality as they mindlessly walk towards me on the sidewalk. ?
Actually no I haven’t done this, but I am thinking about it! ?
That made me literally laugh out loud, definitely getting this on my phone. Thanks!!
LVEB = bletch! I can’t even give away the sample I have of it. None of my “perfume curious” friends liked it at all.
Truly bad habits and very annoying, indeed. You’ll have to let us know when you speak with the LVEB person!
Wearing a teeny dab of LADDM on my abdomen today and will spray more liberally later on today. I intended to buy some Chanel soaps last night but it turned into window shopping. Chanel has some mini travel spray sets available for $75. I am sorely tempted to get one. I like travel sprays and having mini ones for a fairly reasonable price makes it nicer. I haven’t bitten yet but I might just break the no buy rule and get one.
The split meet is coming up. Maybe someone will host your choice.
I also really love travel sprays. I find them to be a perfect size. I can hardly justify buying huge bottles anymore.
I’m wearing Parfum d’Empire Le Cri today.
Hey, are shops having an issue with restocking this one in Poland? I cannot find it anywhere here. I emailed Luckyscent to find out when they might have it in stock again, but never got an answer.
Hi Fresca!
It was a limited edition if I remember correctly. I don’t see it on Quality Missala website anymore.
Oh wow. I did not realize that it was a limited edition–always my bane as it can take me months or years to warm up to a full bottle.
The answer I got from them quite a while back was that he is doing a packaging/size change for the whole line. Smaller bottles, I think, for more money, of course!
It was a wonderfully small bottle… I hope very much that it resurfaces!
They did say then it would come back eventually, so I don’t think it was a Ltd edition.
Yeah, it was small and relatively reasonably priced for such a great scent. Shoulda, woulda, …
Winter Palace, to see if would get in on a split. I’m not sure yet, because it falls into a similar space as Fils de Dieu for me, and I think I might prefer Fils de Dieu (scent and price). We’ll see how it develops! Speaking of the split meet – would there be any interest in a split of L’Artisan Bucoliques de Provence? Yesterday, I found it for a good price on the Artisan website ($74) so it would be a pretty affordable split. But I really can’t justify 100ml of the stuff for myself. Just checking!
I have never sniffed any of the scents you mentioned. Could you tell more about them? I have a feeling that I will enjoy this split meet. ?
I love Winter Palace, but I am not very good at identifying/describing scents. To me it is sweet spicy incense with a dash of citrus fruit.
Incense is always good. ?
Yes, I think that’s not a bad summary (I’m equally poor at this). I don’t really to ton of incense or spice, but it’s defnitely an ambery, warm kind of sweet scent to me.
Bucoliques is totally different – it’s a lavender scent that is not too sweet, not too masculine – just right 🙂
I love Winter Palace and am so happy I got a full bottle in NST swapmeet.
I really want the Camargue one, but only about 10mls.
I’m with you. I’d go for 10ml of Camargue.
We are running plants into the greenhouse so I have missed most of these great threads so far today. I just want to add:
SOTD: Lalibella (someone asked if it would make the split meet list) from another lovely Petunia sample (thanks you are so generous)and I liked immediately. The opening is reminds me of the spicy amber in Fiore D’Ambre from Profumum Roma. Sillage is well behaved but you don’t have to search too hard and the dry down is really fabulous, soft, woody amber and vanilla. There was an initial tart floral note in the beginning but I don’t find it anywhere else. Love coffee under the lemon trees as a concept, who wouldn’t.
And Jeff too!
Off to beat the rain….
Still smell like a smashing of samples from yesterday. Gotta scrub soon.
Can anyone describe Tom Ford London?
More organizing of perfumes today. I found some fun old friends yesterday. I can’t believe I haven’t unpacked these yet.
Trying out Champagne/Yvress by YSL today, and it’s just gorgeous! I received this from the lovely Pixel in the last freebie meet. The way the fruity peach and apricot in this mix with the cinnamon and anise is delightful and makes it feel very apt in colder weather
You smell sumptious, I adore that one, both the vintage and even the contemporary one which is even fruitier (a little tart in the opening but soon smooth).
I still can smell Perris Monte Carlo Patchouli Nosy Be from yesterday afternoon’s application. By this point in the dry down it has become very smooth and chocolatey. It’s not my top patchouli fragrance (that goes to CDG Luxe Patchouli) but it’s definitely got its nice points. Not sure what I’ll choose for later today after my shower. (I’m having a lazy morning.)
Yum. That sounds interesting!
Bvlgari Black. There are quite a few paintings with tea in them – filled with delicate tea pots and flower cups with fragile handles…but those don’t work for Bvlgari Black. And I didn’t find a painting with black rubber tires and tea, although somewhere some modernist may have done one.
It is a great scent!
I never saw such a painting, would be fun…
How about this SpringP-https://images.app.goo.gl/KTwQLkqK3DhwP7he8
Hey, that works!! Love it.
That’s such a good one! You smell awesome!
In vintage Dioressence EdT which I haven’t worn in ages. There is such a nice geranium note in it.
Robin, I love the earthy tones of the image.
I’m glad…was worried it was maybe a little too dreary / drab for online use, but I love the painting.
Oh, I love it too. It reminds me of some of Zurbaran’s still lives, and he’s one of my very favourite painters.
Horizontal rain today with forty mph gusts. I’m wasting a perfectly good couch day at work! Lol
Sotd is Aedes de Venustas. One of my current favorites. If anyone shops at Marshalls for cosmetics, I got a MAC lipstick for 6 dollars! They also had some blushes.
That’s a great deal, what color for the lipstick, Lillyjo?
It’s red, but I don’t know the color name off the top of my head. It’s part of the Allihah collection, that they had at least a year or more ago
Mac does red very well.
Yes, it was one of those days where the bus shelter only keeps your back from getting wet.
Yeah, pretty nasty out.
You smell great! I hope you get some relaxation time when you get off work. ?
Today is my Friday, so I will!
Yay for Friday night, no matter what day of the week it falls on!
As much as I love to be home on a rainy day, I’d rather have a sunny day off. Enjoy your Wednesday weekend!
Thanks! I’m hoping to catch up on some housework.
Yuck on your weather today, but yay for a day off tomorrow! I hope that in between getting all the “stuff” done, you have time for something fun or relaxing too.
Thanks jalapeno. Take care of yourself this week.
I haven’t ever had the opportunity to try your sotd; is that the brand with the cool bottle? Hope you enjoy your Friday and weekend!
And, yay for $6 MAC lipstick!
Yes, very cool bottle. I have the travel spray, which is pretty plain looking, but smells awesome just the same ?
Ugh I do love a good rain day- haven’t had many since moving west a few years ago.
Nearly thunked my decant of Moonlight Patchouli, now wearing Stash for the evening.
I gave my mother a bottle of Stash because I really like it and she loves it too. I’ve been wearing the lotion lately.
The Stash oil has been my nighttime perfume for the last week. So good!
You’ve smelled soooo great today in both of those!
Started out in Tom Ford Noir Femme and changed to Gris Clair after a shower. Gris Clair matches the rainy, windy day and the art for this post.
Thank you all for the fun classic movie recs yesterday! Today would be a perfect day to curl up on the couch and watch one if real life wasn’t in the way. ☔️
Yes it would!!
You smell very cozy!
You’ve smelled great two times today!
Would it be wrong and shallow to admit I have a serious long term Jeff Goldblum lemming? ?
I’m in Cierge de Lune today, working on emptying decants. Perfect for this mild, sunny day.
LOL — I think most people do, so you can surely admit it here.
He’s definitely become a gray fox.
Cierge de Lune is wonderful!!
This morning I was a classy lady in Misia, but now I am a lightly-scented lady. Will have to check the epb drawer…
Lol “lightly scented lady”!
I adore Jeff Goldblum. I’ll happily watch him in anything, even commercials. My two long ago favorite performances of his were in Altman’s Nashville and his rom-com with Geena Davis, Earth Girls are Easy. I’ll have to watch them again to see how they’ve held up over the years.
SOTD is Tea for Two, a new bottle from the L’Artisan sale. I wore my decant of the original for a few day just to make sure I needed more. I’m really pleased to report that I like this new slight reformulation even better. The smoke is still there but it’s less assertive. Because of that, I think, it seems more multi-dimensional and better balanced.
Doing an incense comparison between Masque Mandala and Arte Profumi Samharam. They’re both very nice. The Mandala is more dry/woody, Samharam is more typical frankincense resiny.
I started off with copious spritzes of Diptyque Volutes but it was so weak and insubstantil I had to add incense to it and decided to do a test on these two.
Sounds like we are both in a heat be damned mood with our perfume choices today. When Mitzah was no longer enough, I re-upped with Zelda! I am at home, working alone in my office, with only the cats to bother if my fumes are too noxious!
Fighting fire with fire!
Wore a couple spritzes of VCA Bois d’Iris for my interview today. I find it very calming and not overpowering at all. Fingers crossed for me please, it would definitely be a good position for me.
Look forward to spending some downtime this weekend reading all of your posts!
Good luck to you!!
Thank you!
I hope the lovely Bois d’Iris will help you realising your wishes!
Thank you!
I hope it went well!
It seemed to! Time will tell I suppose!
Good luck Kelly. I hope you get it!
Thank you so much!
Good luck!
Thanks! And we smelled great in Alien yesterday!
Good luck KellyC! ?
Thanks!
Late comment, but I hope it went well! ?
It’s warm but grey and cloudy today. Meh on the weather. I’ll be taking an Internet break for about a week… got things to deal with IRL.
SOTD = back in L’Envol EdP. And here’s a link to something that I think matches it perfectly:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gateway_Arch
I agree and hooray for internet break. Thanks for letting us know so we don’t send an APB out on you!
No worries, right?
Good luck with the week!
Thank you lillyjo! I hope that your week goes well, too.
Nothing serious I hope.
I’ll spill the beans after it is all said & done.
Good luck with the real life things! Take care. 🙂
Thank you neyronrose! I’ll do my best. ?
Hope your week goes well and you accomplish everything you need to!
Thanks KellyC!
Feeling like fall in Chergui. But I just organized my perfume shelf (samples had gotten a little out of control) so I have a random assortment of other scents on top for the evening.
You are smelling great! I have to bring my bottle out.
Smelling wonderful in Chergui!
Wearing a couple sprays of Mitsouko edt on one wrist and a couple sprays of Shalimar PI on the other. The Shalimar seems to be winning tonight.
It was a crazy day at work so I’m sipping on some yoga tea to relax a bit. Friday, where are you?
I only smelled the PI once, and I remember thinking it was pretty strong. I hope Friday comes quick for you, but slow for me!
Shalimar always wins IMO, but I’m a total Shalimar fan therefore am biased haha.
Scent of the afternoon and evening: Nobile 1942 Le Petit Chocolatier # 1: Confiture. As I’ve mentioned before, of course my favorite is the sweet and fruity one. The description on the back of the box of the set of three Le Petit Chocolatier fragrances encourages the user to blend them, but I haven’t tried blending two of those fragrances together yet. I’m sure the time will come. 🙂
It was a quiet day for me. I sorted out perfume samples by brand. (I made a bag labeled “singletons” a few months ago.) I need to clear out a drawer or cabinet for them.
