“The chemical blend may make the scent differ between types of insect, so it is hard to describe the general odor, but it is an acrid but somewhat sweet smell,” says Bertone. “I liken it to a very sour, fermenting apple, but other people detect other odors.” On the flip side, Gore says “most people describe it as a peppery odor, similar to coriander or cilantro.” (That’s because one of the compounds produced by stink bugs can actually be found in cilantro.)

I squish stink bugs when I find them because they eat everything and then find myself strangely intrigued by their odor….
I put them down the toilet. It is a waste of water. The method in the article, put them in a garbage bag and take it out immediately, would be way worse.
I hate stinkbugs to the 1000th power. If I find them in the house, into the toilet they go. No stinking up mi casa.
Same. Last couple years, we didn’t have so many and I thought some predator must be doing well, but this fall they seem to be back with a vengeance.
it’s the sudden(ish) change in temperature, I think. They start gravitating toward warm houses. Raid makes sprays specifically for those things; as much as I hate to use pesticides, it works fairly well.
Oh absolutely…they come in the house in the fall, find a nice hiding place, then leave in the spring. We have an old, not air-tight house, so we are quite used to the routine 🙂
I am anosmic to stink bugs!
And I did stomp on some when I was a toddler.
