It's Monday and B.B. King's birthday. (And you've still got another day to join in the swapmeet!) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm at the beach, and fragrance-free at the moment. Last night I was in Aftelier Ancient Resins mixed with a little Sweet Orange oil.
Reminder: on 9/20, wear a fragrance by Laboratorio Olfattivo, Lubin, La Via del Profumo, Les Parfums de Rosine or Liquides Imaginaires, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter L.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Trying to decide which fragrance to take with me next weekend when my best friend & I are off to Glasgow – her 60th birthday gift from her husband was he’d fund the trip, & 18 months later we’re finally going. Upside to his funding it is that here in Scotland you are entitled to free bus travel once you hit 60! I have Margiela ‘Promenade in the Gardens’ or Maria L ‘Yours Truly’ – this latter one I bought when visiting my brother in Florida last year, a brand I was completely unaware of until I had a meeting with the lovely Rob of Uncommon Finds. Thrilled to discover that Penhaligon’s have opened a shop in Glasgow again – their Princes Square location was much missed when it closed a few years ago now, but their new location in Buchanan Street looks lovely, & I’ve been a fan for years.
That sounds like fun, & love that bus travel is free at 60!
I’m wearing Voleur de Roses today, and since the only CP house that I have any samples of is Les Parfums de Rosine, I may just do a rose week. I’ve received a discovery set of Alkemia Perfumes with rose samples and also one from Art Meets Art. Hopefully, I won’t tire of roses before Friday.
You smell wonderful!
+1 to this!
I look forward to your daily rose report!
Flashing back to summer with PdE Corsica Furiosa and mid-80’s temperatures. ?
RIP Ric Okasec. The Cars music was everywhere when I was a youngster, thinking I had the world by the tail.
This morning I stopped for a breakfast bagel, and when I got out of my van, the car next to me was running with no one in it. I thought that was odd, but assumed they ran in to get a coffee or something. When I came back out, it was still running. I stepped up close and saw someone WAS in the drivers seat but the seat was tipped way back. It was an elderly woman about 65-70. I was kind of torn because I thought something may have happened to her. After walking back and forth indecisively to my van a couple times, I finally knocked on her window. She jumped about a mile but was ok. She rolled down the window and I explained I was just worried and hated to disturb her. She said “oh, I work nights and was just getting some sleep.” I went on my way, but fiound this terribly sad.
I think you did the right thing, Deva! Better safe than sorry.
Also, you smell most excellent ??
Those are both what I was going to say 🙂
Smelling great and looking out for elderly folks. ???????
+1!’
I had The Cars Heartbeat City album waaaaay back in the day, and I played that thing on repeat for HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS! Still love ’em….
RIP Ric Okasec. Had The Cars on shuffle for my road trip this morning.
Agree, better safe than sorry so good move! My 1st job was nights and my drive to work took about an hour+, so I used to do what that woman was doing. I sometimes had to pull off the highway because I was getting drowsy. No bueno ?
Corsica furiosas notes sound really good, but its hard to get
Well, if it’s any consolation, it hasn’t gotten stellar reviews by the “experts.” Good thing I don’t pay attention to reviews, because I love it. Where are you? I could possibly send you a decant, or if you know someone in the US, I could ship to them and they could possibly get it to you…
Thank you Deva, but its too mostly to Ship to europe…
I’m sure your kindness was appreciated, it must be exhausting to work nights
Poor thing, she should be retired and comfortably enjoying her life at that age, not working nights. Glad you checked on her.
This makes me sad too. You’re a good person for making sure that she was okay.
I’m glad to hear that you checked on that lady in her car.
I agree; good call on checking on her. And even a bit more scary with the car running.
Good call, Deva!
Enjoy the beach, Robin!
Jo Malone BlackBerry & Bay for a warm, cloudy day. Happy Monday!
I am having a lovely time, thanks! Today is Meterless Monday — supposedly the end of the tourist season and the beginning of “locals season”, so you can park on the streets without paying a meter now through May. There are all sorts of musical events etc.
It wasn’t too warm for Blackberry & Bay today?
Not really. I always wear it as a transition perfume. Perfect!
Perfect Veil before step class!!
Flopper, I love your new avatar! So bright and cheerful. You smell sublime✌?
Me too!!
Xo
Thank you all xoxo
Tyrannosaurus rex!
You smell awesome!
That’s a great way to own the week! Bring it strong .
Very short visit to department store, wondering if that new Serge Lutens was already available. Answer is no, but they had a new Gucci on display.
I forgot the name…. green bottle.
Certainly not love at first sniff, but its nice. And kudos for trying something else, (meaning: its not too sweet and its not aimed at people younger than 25 hahaha).
Because i also wanted to try the new Lancome, but the smell coming from the sprayer held me back…pink fruity rose…..mmmm let me guess drydown is probably ‘white musk’? ?
And why is the bottle so smalll???
Sorry for being a bit grumpy here
I guess I am still a bit tired. Weekend was extremely busy. The party for my parents’ wedding anniversary was a succes. Everybody had a great time, and the weather was very good ☺️
Sorry I chose the wrong words to describe the Lancome bottle, hahah
small = thin
Sorry you are grumpy, but glad to hear the anniversary party went well!
The Gucci is Mémoire d’une Odeur.
Thanks!
The bottle is quite pretty Lovely green, nice to hold in your hand.
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet today (did I manage to spell it right?)
I’m participating in a program at my university where staff members (like me) can volunteer to be paired up with a new international student. The idea is that the staff person meets up with the new student once a month or so, and helps them get familiar with the campus, the city, United States culture, etc. It’s my second year in the program and I just met my new student match yesterday. She’s a PhD student from China and we’re just a few years apart in age. Her English is a little bit shaky, but I’m sure it will get better with time. Can’t wait to get to know her better!
Forgot to mention I ordered a sample of the new Tauer perfume yesterday 😀
So tempted by that one.
Sounds like a great program. I’m sure you will both learn a lot from each other.
That sounds like a great adventure for you both! Good for you.
1) I love that fragrance-especially in the spring!
2) It is always fun to get to know a new person from another culture.
That is a great carnation perfume!
I think it’s cool that you do that – every so often, I teach a class full of international undergraduate students, and while they have a good overall support program, they don’t have a one-on-one pairing, and many of them stick with their compatriots if they can.
That mentoring program sounds like a great thing to have, and an asset to your institution.
That’s a great program!
My dchurch has a program where a church member will pick up Rutgers International students from the airport and drop them off at the campus (primarily New Brunswick).
Good morning Y’all….
Well, the AC is out at work (has been all weekend), and right now it’s up to 80F and 60% humidity in the office. Armed with this knowledge going in, I’m in Yves Rocher My Green Summer, which has been a staple of mine all summer. It’s crisp and fresh and cuts thru the sticky heat. My deodorant is Secret Clinical Strength Lavender, but it ain’t acting real clinical at the moment…..LOL
Stay cool my fragrant friends! Maybe fall temps will eventually get here…..
Yikes. Stay cool Jada!
Whoo! Make sure you have a mini fan and water with you!
JM dark amber and ginger lily
its where my hand landed.
anyone watching Unbelievable on Netflix? gosh, it’s good.
I’ve hear that show is very good. Your scent sounds lovely.
My sister knows someone who was a consultant for that show (my sis works in sexual assault prevention education), so she got invited to attend a panel discussion with some of the lead actors and producers. I haven’t seen the show, but am glad to hear it’s good!
Kind of ugly and overcast here today. That time of year where the weather bounces around. Gives us a promise of crisp fall and then warms up and gets more humid… good news is Thursday is expected to be sunny and in mid 60s. It’s my birthday, and we will go see the Linda Ronstadt documentary and have dinner at a restaurant near home that we’ve never tried.
I’m channeling warm sun in Fiori di Capri again. Just an easy grab for me.
Happy Birthday LizzieB!? Have a great day!
Sounds like a very fun day 🙂
Happy Birthday! Sounds like a nice evening planned.
Happy Birthday! ??
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday ?
Happy Birthday LizzieB!
Happy Birthday!! Enjoy!
Happy birthday!
Thanks everyone. It’s actually on Thursday, but I so appreciate your best wishes! I love that my birthday falls on Int’l Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Early Happy Birthday!
I’m in Tam Dao edt again.
I was up early and on the road. It was sooo foggy here. Helping my oldest get settled in a new place and will catch a lunch with my college girl. Looking forward to seeing her.?
A fellow travel nurse I met last year in Reno is currently on contract in Madison. Her instagram is creating a lemming. She’s in love with your town and the surrounding area. You smell perfect! ✌?
Sports Illustrated just named Madison the best college football town in the country.
Ha! I’m not surprised. I can hear the stadium at my house on game day and I live a mile away.
Thanks!
I’m totally biased, but Madison is easy to love. You should check it out!?
In an unexpectedly enjoyable Dolce and Gabbana–Velvet Love. I was expecting something very Elvis Jungle Room from the name, not that I had a clear idea what that might smell like (cigarettes, Quaaludes, sweat, and Chanel No. 5?). Thanks to the lovely Plyushka, I’m in this pretty carnation. It is a de-fanged carnation, the spices and ylang ylang are a background hum, not spikes here. But it is not soapy carnation in the least. If you like carnation perfumes, this one is easy— Like the King says, ‘love me tender, love me true’ . . .
Joining you in carnation today
I imagine Elvis Jungle room smelling like peanut butter, bananas and bacon.?
Double LOL!
?
You may be much closer to the mark!
LOL!,
Dear Oakland, so far I am loving the King Must Die, more than the last of the wine ? ?
That is the one I remember really loving. If I get around to rereading, I will start with The King Must Die. Aren’t books just best!
Sounds like Velvet Love is well worth a sniff!
Wearing Shalimar edc and searching for my will to Do Stuff – I have a ton of laundry and general cleaning to do today and I’m just so lazy! My husband has spent the morning cleaning out his desk and muttering under his breath. The joys of retirement in a very small house ?
Being lazy twins! I was going to mop the kitchen 3 hours ago!
Like I always say, that dirt’s not going anywhere, there’s always another day lol
I know I can be lazy with things, go easy and gentle on yourself
It was hard for me to get going today, too.
Hello friends! I’ve been gone for a while but hoping to return more regularly! Didn’t know this was possible but I have definitely over sprayed Cacharel Noa. I’m not regretting it and hope those around me don’t either!!
The best way to live your life is without regrets, so go you! And welcome back. ??
Agreed!! Thanks Deva!!
I went through 2 bottles of Noa before I fell down the rabbit hole. You smell very nice today!
Thanks Jalapeno!! Noa was one of my first purchases as I was falling fast down that rabbit hole!!
Coco
Turmeric Latte
Thrift shopping with my friend, bought a cute jean Marc Jacobs skirt for 37 bucks , had its original tags on it
You smell wonderful, congrats on a nice find.
This is what it looks like, I found a photo online
https://images.app.goo.gl/rEFGYEGvKZBd9eo77
I am planning on pairing it with a turtle neck and boots, perfect for fall!
Very cute! Appeals to my 70s aesthetic 🙂
It’s hot and humid here and I am wearing Avignon today and forgot how much I enjoyed it. I am still looking at Luckyscent and wondering on what I am going to get for the Andy Tauer mini. Lonestar Memories is on backorder.
You smell lovely! I love Avignon.
I should get another sample of Avignon.
Continuing in Insitut Tres Bien, today in Cologne a la Francaise from a swap sample. This one is really nice, too. Much more crisp and tart than the Italienne with a LOTV note. So far, I’m really digging this brands EDCs!
I have never heard of this brand
The original Guide has several of those under best citrus category, so I’ve always been intrigued because I love a good citrus. How is the lasting power?
Ah, I should check The Guide. They last pretty well on me, but no sillage after about an hour or so. I can still smell the drydown of this one (and it smells vaguely like Chanel no 5 edt to me right now. I’m tempted to get the Italienne one…
Sampling Oriental Velours from Les Indemodables
And how are you liking it?
It’s a nice but not notable vanilla tinged myrhh so nothing I’ll think about past today
R.I.P Ric Ocasek and Eddie Money.
I’m wearing Black Orchid. I watched the Comedy Central roast of Alec Baldwin last night. Funny, but not as funny as the older roasts. I also watched John Wick 3, yay Keanu, but the first two were better imo. I’m going to stop reviewing everything now, and mop my floor. ?
Have a great day everyone!
Lol… JW3 was good up until Hally Berry joined in..I lost interest after that. She doesn’t scream anything John Wick to me..more like Days of Our Lives.
Yeah, I didn’t understand that part at all. It really didn’t fit.
I feel that way about a lot of movies Halle Berry is in.
You smell great. I rediscovered Black Orchid Voile d’Fleur over the weekend, I forgot how much I like it.
I missed out on smelling that one. I think the whole Orchid line is excellent.
I just added something to the swapmeet .
It’s funny… every time I wear Black Orchid I get ZERO floral notes. It’s a rather masculine patchouli/truffle blend on me.
I get the same. I get sweaty attractive man from it. Lol
Aha, ha, ha ?
At the gym so commando but my top has vestiges of Aedes Des Venetas by l’Artisan from an earlier wear.
I made the camouflage soon!!
Happy Bday B B King! Listening 2 Shemeika Copeland on XM/Sirius Bluesville station. We just saw her live and she is Absolutely a super talented Blues phenom and an equally amazing person.
I don’t know her, off to google! Thanks.
Started my day in Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte, when it was gone some sprays of Ninfeo Mio.
Now waiting for my stuffed zucchini to be ready for dinner, drinking a Ricard on the balcony
Love NM! That dinner sounds mighty tasty?
Happy Monday!
1) Rain rain rain! But the temps are still very mild, not chilly at all.
2) Am in Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere- perfect and lovely on this grey and wet day!
3) Went to Target this weekend and picked up one of the limited collection pieces- a Mac jacket/coat by Isaac Mizrahi, honestly the best of the offerings there. However, I am gonna need to Scotchguard it.
I’m a big fan of Scotchguard and that’s nice you found something from the Target reissue, our one store never gets much limited edition stuff.
Same here!
After a gorgeous Sunday, there is a first hint of fall in the air so I’m wearing my best ginger perfume with a fall name: Yves Rocher Folies de Saisons Delires d’Automne, aptly name if quite a mouthful and is a gourmand ginger, delicious and if you come across it I would say jump on it: I remain curious about the other Folies de Saisons especially the winter one, I still don’t know why YR discontinues most of its perfumes.
It has started to smell like fall in the evenings where I am at. And the very tops of the oak trees have leaves that are changing color now. ??
Oh yes, the smell of fall in the evenings, I love early fall, it’s late fall that makes me sad.
SOTD is the original Halston parfum for a busy day of new Tenure-track faculty orientation and payroll assistant interviews. Happy Monday! 🙂
So beautiful! Back when I was a teen, I used to douse myself with the version in the ivory plastic/glass bottle.
Same here!
Hope your day goes smoothly!
OMG, original Halston! What a great fragrance! I had a bottle way back in the day.
You smell wonderful, when I found my vintage bottle I told Victoria at BdJ that it had made me fall in love with chypres all over again, and she considered Halston as a fantastic one.
Wearing Vanille Insensée and almost at the end of the decant. A coworker complimented it and with luck she’s now a bit more relaxed before her presentation.
The bells will ring in the city today because the first Royal Albatross returned to the city at the weekend. The breeding ground at Toroa Head is home to around 160 birds. It is conservation week, too and so there is an emphasis on cleaning up the beaches…when the young birds take flight at the end of the breeding season they regurgitate ( usually squid beaks) to make themselves lighter and last year they discovered a plastic bottle cap in one of the chick’s “vomit” ….fed to it by its parents. A huge vegetaion fire roared across the hill opposite my house yesterday and I sat at my table watching the helicopters drop water through the smoke….and today the air smells ashy. Luckily it is still cool and damp down here and the fire was contained. My only L is Lush so Furze today.
Good news on the return of the albatross, the beach cleanup and the fire being controlled. You live in such a wild and mythical place – at least in my imagination. 🙂 So far from urban north america.
Plus so different in other ways. A dodo bird could fly into my town and nobody would ring any bell.
What cazaubon said. Wild and mythical compared to rural North America too 🙂
Welcome back, Albatross! Migrating monarch butterflies have just arrived in my neck of the woods. They came down from Canada and will be on their way to Mexico next.
How cool about the monarchs! ?
Animal migration is so incredible, isn’t it? Imagine being a butterfly travelling from Canada to Mexico, just amazing. One of the changes we are seeing re. unexpected animals is the rise in the number of leopard seals in our coastal waters, mammals that should be down in the Antarctic. They are very primitive looking creatures.
We have little song birds–a range of passarines–that my husband tells me migrate at night. Who knew? He says that you can sit and look at the moon at night and see anywhere from a few dozen to thousands passing by during their nocturnal migration. They are such bright, perky little birds–it hard to imagine them packing their bags, collecting their visas, plotting their meals, etc. for a midnight flight.
Wow, that puts Capistrano to shame!
Swallows???
Yep. Albatrosses > swallows.
Oh, good luck to the albatrosses! So sad to hear about the bottle cap. Furze is one I want to try but apparently it’s impossible to sample Lush’s more esteemed fragrances at a store, at least here in Canada. Online only, and no samples. Sigh.
Furze is a pretty true to nature gorse, in my opinion. It is fun but a bit blunt, and I find it a bit much after a few hours as there is little development. It is nice though. I bought a couple of bottles when it came out
I think Lush tends towards blunt in general, but sometimes blunt is more appealing than well-behaved…I liked Furze too and should have bought it when I could have.
Sprayed on Taklamakan this morning, but it is mostly burned off. Will add a bit of Santal Majuscule for the evening.
I’m wearing the absolutely gorgeous Tasneem by La Via del Profumo. Kafkaesque says of it, “Tasneem has rapidly become one of my favorite AbdesSalaam creations, and I also think it is one of the best ylang soliflores I have ever smelt. For me, it is like falling into a bath of golden, buttery, spicy, floral custard that oozes narcotic indolence and snuggly, sweet comfort through every pore. But it is not a complicated or complex scent.”
I think she said it just as I experience it but better than I would have come up with.
Wow, that perfume sounds fantastic!
Yup.
A dessert with that description on a menu would be hard to resist, let alone a perfume.
Would work for a perfume, a dessert, or heck – a date. 🙂
?
I woke up yesterday feeling more lively than I have for a while, I think I’ve finally shrugged off the last of a cold that I had weeks ago. There has been something going around this year that takes forever to go away.
I’ve decided on Aedes de Venustas Palissandre d’Or this morning. I think of it as a warm scent, but not heavy. It seems about right for a blustery morning that’s not too cold.
Good to hear that you are feeling more like yourself today!
Ugh. A gloomy Monday afternoon calls for extra caffeine, I think. RIP Eddie Money and Ric Ocasek. I remember listening to their music in junior high school.
Robin, I really enjoy the vintage postcards that show up as the picture of the day!
SOTD = back in Chypre Mousse, aka Eau de Crypt. Less clover and honey notes today, but they are still present and accounted for.
Wait, are you liking it? I hope so, because we need need more people in the pro CM corner! ??
Yes. I like it both ways it has shown up on me… the cute, cuddly version I am getting today, and the wild, weird version I got the first time I sniffed it.
Why is it aka eau de crypt?
Because sometimes Chypre Mousse can smell like the basement of an old stone church, complete with a hint of mildew.
Sounds like the original Messe di Minuit!
I don’t smell any incense in Chypre Mousse, though.
That is what it smelled like on me when I sampled it. The mildew note was a tad too strong for my allergies. Ah-choo! ?
No mildew with me this time. Plenty of green notes that span the range between sunlit meadows to dark forests.
Well that sounds better than what I was thinking. I was thinking The Crypt Keeper from tales from the crypt! Lol
Nope, no undead monster in this! ?
Isn’t that a great postcard?
I think you smell great, Chypre Mousse is so special.
I’m in Tauer Les Années 25. The launch of the new Tauer reminded me that I have a couple of newer miniatures (Attar, Les Années) I haven’t used in a while. Les Années is a good one. As an aside, I think the L’Air des Alpes is a must-have as I love Tauer and I hiked across the Swiss Alps from east to west in my younger years 10 years ago. One of the best times of my life! I ordered a mini today & we’ll go from there.
I think I’ll have to do La Curie for the CP. Spouse has La Via del Profumo…could snatch a bit of that, but I like my La Curies!
Oh then you really must have a bottle! I have never been to the Alps at all much less hiked across them.
Jo Malone Oat and Cornflower from the last swapmeet, which is fun for a slightly crisper day, like the one we had today. Woke to rain in the morning and my California born daughter said “I love this! I wish it was cold all year round!” 🙂 I’m not so sure about that.
I think I like doing the swapmeet mostly because I get little packages in the mail if I do…
Me too. Little packages of smellies. What could be better?
Along with your California born daughter, our California born kitten (well, he is about a year old now–but he will always be our kitten) was going bonkers listening to the rain this morning. He was meowing and chasing phantoms with such extreme excitement, he knocked over a stack of magazines and twisted up a throw rug so that I tripped on it first thing this morning. He would occasionally pause in his mad dashes to get his belly rubbed, but basically it was the most wonderful thing he’d ever witnessed–and he had to observe it from all of our windows, in rapid succession, over and over again.
Kitten’s first rain! So cute.
SOTD was Au Pays Violette Sacree. Now to read the comments….
Late to the party!
SOTD = Diana Vreeland Daringly Different
8 sprays and woo hoo, just the right amount! Powdery iris, rose, tonka, suede, and woody notes, in other words, Perfect!
SOTD is City On Fire by Imaginary Authors that I just received in the swap.It is a great autumn scent.
I’m planning to watch the Country Music documentary part 2 tonight on PBS.Part 1 was so good!
I would love to sniff the Black Narcissus perfume mentioned that Jimmie Rodgers bought in New Orleans and wore all of his short life.
Anyone else watching this documentary?
Yes, I am. I think all the yodelling on last night’s program inspired my cat to try it. We didn’t get much sleep last night.
?
Oh so glad to hear it is good, I am tivo-ing the whole thing but haven’t started it yet (have 2 other series to finish first).
Yes! I watched part 1 on Sunday but was out tonight (fittingly: at a drumming class) so will have to catch part 2 on demand.
Did you catch that Jimmie Rodgers wore a perfume called “Black Narcissus”! I need to look it up.
Where can I buy Black Narcissus?
Partial points as I have on Le Labo Iris 39 tonight.
Fall must be in the air here as we all felt cold at work today. Tonight I even brought out the blankets for the couches.
Partial points for a Le Labo this week is about all I’ll be able to manage.
You smell really great Gail.
I just own the body lotion but that works very well.
I love this one, it’s an easy go-to Iris imho.
Late late post. Raced out the door this morning so just grabbed Samsara and sprayed.
Just got home after a long long day out. Grabbed two samples I hadn’t bothered with in months: Tea for Two and Ambre Sultan. Man, these are both really good.
