PSA: our next swapmeet will be on Saturday, 7 September and our next freebiemeet will be on Saturday, 28 September.
Meanwhile, it's another Monday, plus Women’s Equality Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Diptyque Kimonanthe. As is frequently the case, my morning fragrance choice was determined by what I came across while looking for something else entirely.
Reminder: 8/30 is National Slinky Day. Wear your most frivolous fragrance. Extra points if it's frivolous AND an enduring classic.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Just back from vacation
What did I miss?
You sure had some beautiful pics on Instagram! Looks like a wonderful time!
Thank you!
I am so happy we got to spend this time together as a family.
I also did some duty free sniffing
Anything notable?
I smelled Gucci Memorie (spelling may be off) Idole by Lancôme and some AA from Guerlain
Nothing made me spring at a bottle
I smelled some “old ones” that I have curious about, that was more fun
Oh Oakland, I finished Song of Achilles. I think you didn’t like it that much , if I remember correctly. I cried at the end!
I also did some duty free sniffing with the same results (and same scents!). Though I did enjoy D&G Light Blue Sun- pretty fleeting though…
I like Sun too – it reminds me of what Light Blue used to be when it first came out
Out of nesting comments so commenting here–yup, I did not like Song of Achilles–but no matter!
I haven’t read them in several decades (nearly four to be precise!), but I LOVED Mary Renault’s books. I may just go back to hers at some point.
I have never read anything by her. Any recommendations?
Oakland Fresca,
Love love love Mary Renault. Would stay up at night reading, both my sister and I.
I read The Persian Boy in 1974 when I was living in Iran.
I had just spent a month in Shiraz and a lot of time at Persepolis. It was as if she had written it for me.
Regarding Mary Renault books… the one’s that I can still recall loving were The King Must Die, The Bull From the Sea, and Mask of Apollo . . . but I am sure there were others! Here’s an article about Renault:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/hay-festival/11606132/Mary-Renaults-hardcore-classicism.html
This exchange has totally made me want to reread her!
How can I find you on Instagram?
Welcome back!
? thank you!
Welcome home! I was wondering where you’d disappeared to ?
Welcome back!
Hope you had a fabulous vacay!
Gris Clair for a rainy day. Haven’t worn it for months and it smells so good!
You smell great! After all the lavender sampling I’ve done in the past few months, I think this is my favorite.
In the simple beauty of SSS Velvet Rose. Sample thunked!
Oh, that’s a nice one 🙂
It is indeed! ??
You smell great. I might need some of that when SSS comes back.
Thank you!
So do I! Fingers crossed out it comes back. I have virtually no roses in my collection anymore and that’s one of my favorites.
Hoping that there is some news about SSS soon!
Happy or sad to thunk it?
Sad, because it is not available anymore. I hope when SSS is back bussiness they still offer Velvet Rose.
Indochine for me today.
Yum! ?
Yum indeed!! I may join you post shower.
Off topic for this chain, but butting in here re M Renault… I never read the Persian Boy, but given this conversation I will add it to my list… I am so excited now about going back and rereading some of her novels.
When were you living in Iran?
Oops. Just reread your comment. 1974! Pre-rev. it was a heady time in Iran for women’s rights. What were you doing there, if you don’t mind sharing? (If you do, just ignore!!)
Sure, OF
I lived in Iran from 1973 to 1978.
My then husband worked for a US based company that builds infrastructure. We lived in the south part of Teheran, most expats lived in the northern part.
I was able to travel the entire length and breadth of the country with him.
I earned my TOEFL certificate and taught English for 3 years at the Iranian Navel Academy.
It was a wonderful, then painful, then frightening time to be there. I regret none of it.
Then we moved to Greece.
I love the photos of Iranian high society from that period. A country of Jacqueline Onassis’es (how to pluralize that??). And at the same time, the fastest family law reform in the Muslim world. I envy your time there then.
Yep, the time came when I couldn’t leave my house.
I wish I could take my sister there and see the beauty of Isphahan, Qom, picnics along the Caspian. Cold snowy winters, Christmas trees from Russia. Driving across open borders into Afghanistan. The city of Bam before the earthquake.
I would stand in one country and say Persian Gulf. Then we moved to Saudi and I would stand there and say Arabian Gulf.
I did it again. Woke up early to find out another medical appointment is on Wednesday, not today. The upside is that I called to confirm to make sure and didn’t find out when I got there. Yesterday, I decided to bite the bullet and order a mini of Les Annees 25 but the order wouldn’t go through. Apparently, Andy Tauer can’t ship his samples or minis to the US but can ship full bottles. He is having issues with customs/the post office. Does it make any sense, no. I hope it’s not forever but probably is. I would rather support the artist directly and not pay inflated prices for a middleman. Today is going to be spent in LADDM.
Deva, sounds like you are having a typical Monday morning. What a pain. I hope it works out soon as I think you deserve a little bauble for all your battles ?.
Happy TREX day!
You smell gorgeous.
He posted something about that on his blog —
https://tauerperfumes.com/blog/2019/06/27/important-news-no-more-sample-shipments-possible/
and then
https://tauerperfumes.com/blog/2019/07/29/an-update-about-shipping/
I am always late to the party about stuff like this. Oh well, I think that it was the universe’s way of saying I didn’t need it.
I found out the hard way, too, when I finally went to his site to order a sample set I’d been planning I buying for over a year.
Apparently no more travel sets, either ( or discovery sets or whatever those small bottle sets were called.)
Planning *on* buying…
Cristalle Eau Verte (again). First day of fall-semester classes. My FY students are (mostly) engaged and good-natured. They are off identifying leaf specimens from campus trees as a prelude to literary analysis. Weather could not be better for it: sunny, low 70s, lovely cool breeze. (Last year it was about 97 when I had students do this exercise.)
Eau Verte is really nice. When I first tried it, I was seriously looking at getting a bottle but it disappeared on my skin after two hours. That is really strange for a Chanel. Channel EDT’s last about 6 or 7 hours on my dry skin.
Yup. Cuir de Russkie and 31RC last and last on me in a beautiful way. With Eau Verte, I am almost happy that it doesn’t last. It is SO sharp and green at first that I (YMMdefinitelyV) might find it overwhelming if it stayed strong for hours. As it is, I start the day with five good sprays and end up with some mellow fresh greenery for most of the day. Good for a job where I am with lots of people.
I find it to be quite long lasting sprayed on clothing.
Very fleeting !
Happy first day of classes! It’s the first day on my campus too.
And the same to you! I am delighted to learn that we are not the only college (unless you’re a colleague!) to start so early.
Niki de Saint Phalle for me today. Instead of pulling discovery sets, decants, samples or minis to wear this week, I took everything out of my box of recently worn scents and redistributed them to the appropriate boxes. I have one box each, although I think I need an additional (or perhaps larger) decant box. Either that or stop buying decants. Naaah. Anyway I decided to only wear scents from my collection of FBs.
You smell terrific, one of my favorite bottles too!
Love that bottle!
Happy National Dog Day to the all the canine lovers out there! I’m in SHL Taklamaken for a day with zero structure. Still waiting for work to get their stuff together so I can get to work on 9/9 without any additional delays. ?
My little T-Rex trotted 4 miles alongside my bike yesterday and didn’t even break a sweat. I love the beautiful bike trails here. They’re nice and wide so people can pass us easily, and no cars to deal with! While she still hates it, giving me the side eye the entire ride, she always likes playing chuck-it when we’re done.
Still waiting for cool weather, but at least it’s not 88F today…
Happy Dog Day to T-Rex! ???
Happy National Dog Day to T-Rex and all the puppers we have come to know and love through the NST postings.
Oops Deva, I posted my response to your comment in a separate comment below, obviously I need more coffee 🙂
No worries, I saw you! I’m on my second cup as we speak??☕️
Happy Dog Day from Mila too!
Good for T-Rex (and you) for getting that workout in yesterday! She may have been a little unenthusiastic about it, but I bet it did both of you a world of good.
Days with structure can be wonderful. Your bike ride yesterday sounds lovely, glad T-Rex enjoyed it.
Love that photo! Beautiful.
SOTD: 31 Rue Cambon
Lovely weekend getaway in Lancaster, PA. Gorgeous old homes, yummy market food, and an intro to the Amish community which was fascinating. Need to take more quick trips… refresh my perspective and enjoy the different scenery.
I haven’t been there in many years, but Lancaster is a fun place to visit. The food is yum! Did you go to the Mennonite museum (or is that in s different town)?
Ooh, one of my favorites (31RC, although I spent a good bit of time in Lancaster as a kid in the 70s — my godparents lives there and were my favorite people to visit). I wore 31RC over the weekend on a cool day. Like visiting a good friend I’d not seen in far too long. You smell terrific!
What a nice getaway. Glad you had a good time.
We are not far from Lancaster but have not been in the town itself in ages. Keep meaning to do a weekend trip to the downtown market, which I hear is quite nice — did you happen to go?
Good morning Y’all….
I was feeling a little extra this morning, so I layered some Bath and Body Works Blackberries and Vanilla mist with a couple sprays of Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Not a bad combo, I have to say!
Don’t keep us in suspense! You felt a little extra???? ?
Just extra fancy! Lol I rarely bother to layer scents…. 🙂
Got a sample of Gucci Memoire D’Une Odeur from Sephora on Saturday and it’s my SOTD. I really like it and am considering a rollerball or small bottle. It distinctly reminds me of vanilla-chamomile tea – just with a bit of musk and soft florals added. Very soothing.
I did a lot of walking yesterday (nearly 9 miles, according to my phone’s pedometer) and I’m feeling it in my hips and legs today!
Ok you guys are pushing me over the edge! I must go to Sephora and smell this one.
It sounds like it would be a fabulous holiday gift for friends as well.
Congrats on the walk that’s quite an accomplishment.
Yes, I’m also feeling the need to get my nose on Memoire since so many people have posted about it. Maybe I’ll stop at Ulta one day after work.
Wow, what a good long walk, no wonder you’re feeling it. Bet it was worth the pain.
9 miles! Woohoo! You rock!
I walked into Ulta today, its right across from my gym and sprayed the new Gucci. I went immediately to Sephora app and bought the travel size with VIB.
It’s quite lovely.
That was a seriously impressive walk you did yesterday! Wow!
I wish they would make travel sprays of it – I hate rollerballs so much
It’s Monday and my vacation is over ? But I had a very enjoyable time in L.A. Didn’t end up going sniffing. Next time…
It feels like a Spring day here (or maybe the cusp of Fall) so wore the springy linden of Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet. Such a lovely scent.
Welcome back. At least you’re not coming back to the usual steam bath…. Linden. Yum.
Thanks! The weather here is beautiful today, and pretty much what the week in LA was like.
Luckyscent will be here waiting for your next trip!
Scent Bar is coming to NY!! ?
Yay
It was a gorgeous afternoon today for sure!
It was and I got to be outside a good deal today so that was nice!
Welcome back. Maybe we’ll meet up at the Elizabeth Street LuckyScent sometime in the fall?!
Thanks and yes!!!
I am in the remnants of MEM.
SOTD plural will be a MFK battle: Amyris vs. Aqua Celestia vs. Luminere Noire.
Then Timbuktu for later today.
Ooh, a sniff-off! Let us know the winner…
House twin 🙂 Let us know who wins!
Love the hummingbird photo! I planted various blooming sages on my back deck container garden this year, and the hummingbirds love them. And they love their feeders too. We have one bully boy who guards ‘his’ feeder. He sits on the wind vane for our anemometer — a few feet from the hummer feeder — and chases off all comers. Or tries to. I am always amused at the thought of a bird so tiny he can sit on the wind vane without disturbing it.
I’m trying to dig up my weirdo perfumes this week. SOTD is EL Dazzling Silver, strange but not so strange that it will traumatize the folks in my husband’s physical therapy place’s waiting room when I’m hanging out there later on this morning.
Hummers are so fun to watch, sounds like you have a perfect setup for viewing. I wandered around some gardens yesterday and saw two hummingbirds and about a hundred butterflies, they were everywhere!
I second that pixel. I can watch hummingbirds forever too, they are such cool. tough and beautiful birds.
They are a perfect choice for Women’s Equality Day.
Sage blooms seem to attract lots of pollinators! My mom has a huge, overgrown sage plant in her garden and she doesn’t bother to cut it back because the bees love it so much.
We have a bully hummingbird as well. Don’t know if it is a he or a she, but it buzzes my head furiously when I take down the feeder to replace the food, and when I garden near the feeder! I tell it,”Don’t buzz the hand that feeds you!” but the bird does not listen. Birds! So much beauty, so little brain 😉
The male hummingbirds have much larger colored patches on their necks than the females. Most likely you have Anna’s hummingbirds since those are the most common here in CA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna%27s_hummingbird
We have about 90% Anna’s and 10% Allen’s here at our house.
We have a bully mourning dove, too, who claims the ground beneath our seed feeder. I have seen him/her chase off scrub jays and even squirrels. Mine! Mine! Mine!
I remember reading a natural history book on humming birds and sadly came away with the impression that they were kinda jerky. Crows, while less pretty, sounded quite neat.
I just booked myself another holiday, so in a good mood knowing that in a week or so I’ll be heading to Paris.
I started the day in Géranium pour Monsieur which is nicely cooling in the warm weather we are having today and added some Bigarade Concentrée later. BC is such a wonderful citrus. I’ve just realised that I’ve almost finished the first of the three small bottles of the travel set I have. It’s one of those sleeper scents. I got it because it was cheap and Elléna, but boy do I wear it a lot.
Tea is cold Blanc des Orangers by DF.
Wish I could show away in your baggage. Are you planning on any perfume purchases while there?
I most definitely am. I want to go back to the Astier de Villatte shop and retry the wonderful La fin d’un été. Plus visit Parfums Nicolaï, Jovoy and I think Lafayette and Printemps.
You are welcome to join me. I happen to drive a van as well, albeit a tiny one. T-Rex is welcome too, I adore dogs.
I love Bigarade Concentree in the late summer and early fall!
Take me with you! 🙂
You smell terrific!
Enjoy your upcoming trip! It sounds wonderful.
Have a great time!
SOTD is Coromandel. Yum.
Did not sleep well last night. My own dang fault for having some coffee after 3 PM. Was up until 3 as a result, and now of course I’m dragging. I know better. Argh! ?
Oh, sleep deprivation is awful, at least you smell fabulous.
I’ve had those days too. Hope you sleep better tonight!
Ick on the sleep deprivation. That makes a Monday even tougher to get through.
Sorry about the sleep but you know you smell good at least
Lovely day to wear Narciso.
I’ll have to tell my sister it’s also National Dog Day. She and her husband acquired a basset puppy from a woman who couldn’t keep it (relocation, time management…). According to my sister, she’s a “frisky fritter”. Been a long time since they had a young one with lots of energy. I’m chuckling from a distance….
Oh LizzieB you smell great! It is on my musk-try list. 😉
Do you love it?
I do. It’s the one I tried when first launched and didn’t like at all. Something screeched at me, although no one else had that reaction. A year later or so, I tried it in duty free at the airport and swooned. Had to have it.
Yes, you musk try it! It’s so good!
Mmm, you smell so good!
Trying Whispers in the Library. I LOVED the opening. And I immediately thought, I’ve got to have a bottle of this. But those opening notes faded quickly. And the drydown is kind of meh, slightly synthetic. I’ll have to look up the notes to see what’s what.
That’s exactly how I felt about Under the Lemon Tree by the same brand.
I posted here that I was considering purchasing the Lemon Tree or Atelier Pacific Lime. I tested the Atelier yesterday at Sephora and it was a total scrubber on me. The last Atelier I tested was as well…
Have yet to try the MM but guessing that NST steered me right in not buying either ?
In the totally unfrivolous Fleur de Peau, which is growing on me. Older son is w Mr. Oakland Fresca in Ohio, moving into his dorm room. They sent me a picture of the room, which looks like a hurricane hit. I think they must have unpacked all his bags a once, and then panicked. His roommate may be having second thoughts!
All this to thank whomever it was (sorry, w/o a visual reference I forget names but maybe it was madtowngirl?) who inspired me to write my son letter that my husband will leave for him. It was a pleasure to write it, and comforting to know that I put my thoughts, advice, and love in writing for him. ?
You are inspiring me to write a real letter, vs a postcard, to a friend who is taking care of two ailing parents and hasn’t much time for herself.
It was harder than I thought, but I am so happy I did it. Since it was to my son starting college, it included 20 “rules to live by” that included everything from #9 SO you will meet people you’ll want to know better. GO to the party she’s supposed to be at. . . just remember, pot does not impair you as much as alcohol, generally, but it depends on how much you use, to #17 College is a privilege—so drain every last drop of learning, laughter, and adventure out of it. It might feel like you have a lot of responsibilities, but you don’t. You have three. Have fun. Work harder than you ever have. Stay healthy.
When I was caring for my younger son over the course of two years when he was very ill (this was several years ago–he is in good shape now), I craved hearing from my friends about their lives–their foibles and victories… I was totally and utterly done with talking about my life–exhausted by it! A letter will bring your friend a lot of pleasure!
Aww!
I hope Mr O and your son enjoy loving in day
Moving in day not loving in day! Ha!
Well, his roommate has yet to make an appearance–I sort of like the idea of a “loving in day!” 🙂 🙂
Wishing him the best of luck! Has he been around snow much?
Nope. Only when skiing. It will be an errrr adjustment!!
Where in Ohio? Question 2: is he ready for 6 months of sub-freezing temps and grey skies? ?
Oberlin, and no, he is totally not ready. It is the grey skies I worry about most . . . but he’s half Scottish, so I am hoping his perpetually_grey_sky DNA will give him resilience!
Here’s hoping! ? I’d meant to make it to Oberlin this summer but never did…
My daughter heads back to college this coming weekend. I just picked out my card for her when I was at Trader Joe’s last week. Like you, I write the cards as much for myself as they are for them. At this point my kids (obviously) know I love them, but can a person ever be told too many times how much they are loved, valued and a constant source of pride? I say not.
I’m sure he will always remember the letter his mom wrote him when he went away to school.☺️
It is true. My parents were both pretty hands off. They’d send me t-shirts with things like “SPOILED ROTTEN!” written on them (not laughing? Neither was I). I am so glad you mentioned the cards (it was you? Right?) because I instantly wanted to do it, but it had just not occurred to me.
I feel okay right now in terms of my son’s leaving. Not sure if that is because I am so at peace with his heading off to new things, or if it because reality simply has not yet sunk in.
My parents were hands off to the point of not really noticing that either my sister or I had left the state. But we were both happy to do so, so our stress levels were pretty low.
Yep, that was me. My kids have gotten conditioned to the point of expecting the cards. When I dropped my 13 year old off at camp at this summer she asked me outright “do you have a note?”? So apparently they like getting them as much as I like writing them.
Glad you are doing okay! Sending kids off to college is such a mix of emotions for me.
Whenever I tell my son a “parents in the seventies ” story, he says ” is that really true, mom” LOL
?
How sweet! I never got letters from my parents like that because I never got to go away to college. My dad refused to pay for it, so I lived at home and commuted – until the tensions got so bad that I had to move out in my sophomore year. As a result I worked full time to put myself through school. It’s a fun experience I wish I had, but that’s long behind me and I learned to be responsible right out of the gate. I hope your son has a blast!
Ha! I had the same deal. Wasn’t allowed to go away and lived at home. The tensions got so bad that I got married and moved across the country, lol!
Parents. I was lucky that although I was not happy at home, my parents were very helpful in paying for my college. I keep telling myself that I will no doubt make big mistakes as a parent, but they d#mn well won’t be the same ones as my parents made with me. I went to college at 17 and never moved back.
Good luck to your older son in his collegiate adventure, Oakland Fresca!
Nice! Great advice! I lived in campus but home was so close I came home every weekend ?
Chanel Boy today.
Love that one!
National Dog Day! Might give my big boy an extra treat. It’s summer again here for a few days, high of 88F today and 90s tomorrow and Wednesday. I’m wearing a tiny bit of Twilly for a doctor’s appt this morning.
And we seem to be having fall for a few days!
Haven’t had much perfume mojo these last couple of months… but this morning I rallied enough to put on some Nuit de Cellophane. And I do want to smell the Gucci Mémoire… so maybe there’s still hope.
Best and happiest of Mondays to all!
Perfume Mojo would be a great name for a perfume. It would work for Smell Bent or DSH –I am sure there are others.
There is hope . . . maybe you need a break is all. There are days when Jergens lotion (or insert your fave!) is revelation enuf!
Glad to hear that you felt the urge to dab/spray something today! There’s nothing wrong with taking a break from perfume every so often.
I think you need to take another trip to New York! Glad you have some of the perfume mojo back!
Hi all!
1)In the slightly frivolous Solar Bloom for this lovely Monday!
2) Have finally made up my mind about the doors I want- I am gonna do a mic of Kallarp and Ringhul doors- glossy turquoise and white. Next up is the appliances!
That will look great!
In an old favorite, Guerlain l’instant.
I was just at the Dyptique boutique and didn’t see Robin’s scent of the day. Is it discontinued? The review was lovely
I just bought a large deviant of L’ Instant Magic that sadly, I don’t think is going to work for me. (For same reasons NO did not, as noted below.)
It smells a lot like of one the Delacourtes, though I can’t remember which one.
Lol. Deviant!
I’m pretty sure everyone can figure that one out 😉
You probably already know this but Sylvia Delacourte was the nose for L’ Instant Magic as well (was that your point and I am once again mistress of the obvious?). I was just looking up the perfume for my own edification 🙂
Yeah I think her “musk” line resembles Magic alot. But is she an actual perfumer or only a creative director?
I didn’t like Magic at all – L’instant the original really doesn’t resemble it one bit. But I guess “flankers” can just be entirely new fragrances? Weird
I think it was a limited edition? But also might have been limited distribution.
It was the latter, no? It never showed up at the Diptyque boutique at my local Nordstrom (which had a large counter and an actual Diptyque Rep.)
Prada infusion d’iris, plus some mango from my cuticle oil + hand cream combo.
Happy Monday!
Where have you been? Hope everything is ok!
Wearing Ferre, a safe or no-need-to-think choice for the office.
Hi all! I’m unintentionally reeking in Neroli Outrenoir, my decant of which I have ignored until today. “Of which” sounds off, doesn’t it? Oh well, anyway… the initial flutter of neroli has been completely obliterated by a gigundo tea note and myrrh. Shall I take the rare opportunity to proclaim Beast Mode? Unfortunately, on my skin, all it brings to mind for me is unflavored Nestea powdered drink mix. Since I erroneously assumed that I could test Abel’s Golden Neroli simultaneously, I’m wearing that too. I think it’s a simple, pretty neroli scent with some citrus, ylang and an unobtrusive peach note. It’s pleasant enough, and if I was a thunker I would probably enjoy a thorough dousing of it. Speaking of Abel, I also recently tried Pink Iris. I made the mistake of thinking a “raspberry leaf” note would smell like raspberry leaf tea or maybe oil. Nope! Raspberry, raspberry, giant honking fruity raspberry. I’m not a fan of that note at all, and came close to scrubbing but clung to the faint hope that iris would make an appearance. I don’t recall that it ever did.
Neroli Outrenoir didn’t work for.me either (or maybe I’m reading your response wrong 🙂 ) I think it was probably because it had some woody aromachemicals that go all wrong on my skin, though.
Sounds to me like your SOTDs didn’t work out so well. That’s a bummer.
Reek on tomorrow ?. I quite like Neroli Outrenoir!
First official day of the semester for me, and I have dabbed on Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant (I am a little afraid of spraying it on when I’m slated to be with lots of people). So, it’s as close to the skin as it can be.
Have as good a Monday as possible, fragrant people!
Have a great semester!
MFK A la Rose today. It’s perfectly pretty enough to finish off this sample, but at $275 a bottle I’m gonna need a lot more than just “nice”.
Yeah, you can get nice for a whole lot less than that!
Well said!
Batucada, because its summer again….. And a dab of vintage Zen for going to bed.
Tam Dao edt. I woke to gray skies and rain this morning. My daughter heads back to college in 5 days, and instead of staying home and wallowing in my sadness, my daughters and I went to see the movie Yesterday. There was only one other guy in the theater! Lol. I thought it was really cute. I haven’t really read what the critics had to say about it and it this point it probably doesn’t matter to me. I love a happy ending.? Now I am home listening to The Beatles.
You smell great. Glad you enjoyed your movie!
My son is a Beatles fan – he is only 10 but appreciates old bands!
I hope your daughter has a great start to her semester
First day of 1st grade for my daughter today. I am very sad that I can’t share it with my parents. ? it feels like there will always be a hole in my heart now.
I wore Snowshoe Pass from Solstice Scents again today. I am supposed to be letting it rest but I am not good at waiting. ? it is very nice but I find it has lower sillage and longevity…especially compared to Kyse another independent perfume line which I have been sampling the last few months. I am trying the SS EDPs as I prefer sprays but am wondering if their oils have more oomph.
Oh She-ra, it is different when our parents are gone. I am sorry you have that hole there.
I’m sorry this is a sad day in regard to missing the older generation. My best friend died about 7 years ago and I appreciate it a lot that her now-grown daughters often get in touch with me and ask for some advice or share an achievement. I wonder if you can find some similar sort of substitute grandparents? It’s a vicarious thrill for me, since I don’t have any kids.
(((hugs))) your way.
I’m so sorry She-ra. I can relate to that feeling. Hugs to you.
Hope it’s a great first grade year ahead!
Hugs for a bittersweet occasion, She-ra.
I think we need a group hug. On TV, there was a before and after picture of a little girl’s first day of school: she was all neat with pigtails, a smart shirt, tie and blazer and a big smile as she boarded the bus. The after picture had her hair all disheveled, tie askew and a scowl ?
I slathered on some TF Orchid Soleil oil after showering (not long ago) and just sprayed lots of AA Rosa Pop on my wrists. Can’t really smell either of them unless I go nose-to-arm.
Am thinking Rosa Pop will make a nice bedtime perfume, though.
Whew Orchid Soleil is LASTING on me!
Sprayed into some oil, it mellows waayyy out.
My usual dose as a perfume is one spray from a tester shared with 2 wrists – it’s nuclear on me, too ?
I think we need to have a CP around bedtime scents
Absolutely perfect late summer weather today. However, I smelled a touch of fall in the air last night. It’s hard to describe in words but easy to know it once you’ve had a whiff of it. ????
SOTD = back in Soivohle Paracelsus.
I can’t wait for fall!
You’ve been in the hot & dry weather this summer for sure!
I know just what you mean.I reread Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury every summer just for his words that perfectly describe summer and the feeling of transition to fall that is a mixture of melancholy and acceptance.
Oh that is a great pick to describe the turning over from summer to fall. So is the song “Night Moves” by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
I got that fall smell last night, too. It was a combo of cool, crisp air and probably a bbq happening somewhere nearby which smelled like a fire place.
Now that I think about it, it kind of was the same smell that impending snow has. No wood smoke for me last night.
I hate that smell so much. Have you noticed the birds not chirping as much in the morning? I get up very early, and live for those chirps every spring.
There still have been plenty of birds around where I’m at, but the mourning doves have left.
I heard birds chirping on Saturday morning, but this morrning at around 2 am the coyotes were howling like crazy, which then set off a bunch of dogs barking. I had to close the windows and was able to promptly fell back asleep thankfully.
Hoping for a quieter night here! I will take the robins chirping like mad at 4 am any day!
I had been waiting for fall all summer ?
Envious of those of you starting to see signs of fall. We have another heat advisory today and temp of 95. Ugh. I’m in Indult Manakara today. For some reason lately I’ve been craving these carnal roses or skanky jasmines. And I’m usually so demure! ha ha!
I admit I do not want 95, but I would go for 85 🙂
Blackberry & Bay for a crazy Monday. Have a good week, you all!
You too! Tomorrow your last day?
No, Wednesday! It’s funny though. You never feel so loved as when you’re leaving somewhere. They had a party and happy hour for me this past Thursday and then today we all went to lunch. But of course, they’re all also overloading me with work these next few days haha.
My sotd was TF Fleur de Chene. Plus bleach, because of cleaning. I’m so fancy, lol.
I think you’re fancy! White vinegar was my SOTD this past Saturday.
And you smelled fantastic ?
Nothing wrong with a little bit of glam to cope with the household chores lillyjo!
True.. true!
I’m tempted to get myself a tiara (from somewhere like Claire’s or the like); less than $10.00, just for cleaning days..I’m pretty sure someone here on NST mentioned that before so I can’t take credit for the idea.
I have a cleaning tiara! It helps, but not as much as a hired cleaner would.
Oh, how I would love someone to just do my floors!
Haha
Another long day. Scent twin with Oakland in Fleur de Peau. I do not find it mundane or unfrivilous. It’s a beautiful sea salt rosey musk for me.. Love it!
A sea salt rosey musk sounds gorgeous!
I think so!
Your description sounds wonderful. I get confused with the different fleurs and peaus. Which brand is it?
I’m in Diptyque and by Petunia’s description I am betting she’s in the same.
Yes, same for me.
I stand by my un-frivolous, but I agree it is hardly mundane. We both smelled lovely today! (Note my use of the past tense… am heading into the kitchen to wash a pile of dirty dinner dishes… ah well)
Ugh.. frivolous…fat fingers…
I read that last as “National Stinky Day,” and was afraid to guess what the scent project would be.
?
Ah, we could go there too!
Very late to the party!
SOTD = Aftelier Alchemy
I frivolously spent on a non-frivolous perfume: $75 for a 5mL rollerball. I’ll let you do the math if this were to be a 30mL bottle without a break in the price per mL ?
In other news…overheard – can you spot the fake? A guy posturing for everyone to hear — “I used to run marathons (and indeed, it was probably a while back judging by his looks but then again, looks can be deceiving) and I’m thinking of getting back to running one again. I’ll warm up with a half- marathon; how many miles is that?” ? The train reached the final stop, the doors opened and I did not hear if his question got answered. ?
Ooh, what rollerball did you get?
I don’t know if you saw a few days ago that I got my sample from Mugler, and thought it was very good. Did you get your sample yet? Interested on your take, since you have smelled more ambers than I have. It took me a long time to like that note.
It was the Alchemy which only came in rollerball format.
And I am still waiting for the sample. It should get here sometime this week!
Was the Alchemy worth it?
Oh yes! Vintage vibe without smelling vintage.
Sounds wonderful!
