Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to August, aka Peach Month. What fragrance are you wearing?
My choice was inspired by Kevin's post on summer vetiver yesterday. I don't have any of his picks, so I'm in Comme des Garçons Vettiveru.
Reminder: on 8/2 we're doing edition 3 of the Guessing Game...describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is. Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Bloomingville Sophia melamine plate is about $8 at Amazon.
Iris Silver Mist Serge Lutens
I have yet to smell this one ☝️
Me too LOL ??
Me three. I’ve heard that it has been reformulated, though.
One of my favorite favorites!
You smell great!
That one is pretty special.
Don’t tell me, don’t tell me…
Is it Serge lutens Iris Silver Mist?!?
Couldn’t help myself, I’m trying to avoid calling AT&T back..??
?
I understand and empathize – it took me 6 months to cancel my account…..
I have a real hard time wearing that one, but I bet I’d like to smell it on you, Bear!
If you’re accusing me of wearing a masculine flanker way better than its progenitor… I totally confess!
Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche?
Gucci Guilty Homme Absolu. One hardware store to rule them all.
In a good way.
I officially switch my answer to your answer, it’s a better fit.
Ha! The right thing to do…
Right!
My SOTD is is based on tuberous, some vanilla , orange blossom and musk. I think this house discontinued this scent, and I don’t know why..
If you were to ask me the name of this perfume as a question , I would say niravana..joy..maybe the ultimate pleasure..the ultimate orgasm (I wish)
??
By Killian Straight To Heaven? This is a difficult one!
Your getting warmer..
Kilian Beyond Love?
Dang I’m always a minute behind someone!
Beyond Love?
Intoxicated??
Beyond Love it is! Its a nice tuberose..why did they get rid of it! SMH
It is still on their website.
Really..do you have the link? I don’t see it here and it wasn’t in the boutique
https://www.bykilian.com/product/19797/50775/perfume/beyond-love-prohibited/loeuvre-noire#/sku/83338
Ah for some reason when I click on it, it doesn’t take me to Beyond Love. Go figure. Maybe it is my computer or the universe telling me I don’t need it
or no longer available in the US?
I am obviously not good at these guessing games but that sounds great!
I really feel inadequate to this task after seeing all of BobH’s cleverness this week, but here goes: Silk blouse matching the pink hue of this perfume, tailored grey wool suit, and something fizzy in a stemmed glass.
Yvress Champagne ?
YSL Yvresse?
Ooh, two votes for Yvresse, but no.
Chanel No 5 sensual elixir? (silky) Chanel Chance or Miss Dior? (pink) Dior makes me think of a tailored gray suit but I can’t come up with champagne, is there a clue? (I’m not great at this lol)
You’re on the right track with Dior, but it’s not Miss D. The “something fizzy” is a reference to an effervescent quality this scent has (and not necessarily champagne).
SJP Lovely?
No, not SJP.
Gris Montaigne?
Yes! Dingdingding!
Nighttime
And I remembered ???
Ce Soir ou Jamais?
No
A La Nuit?
Nope
Nuit Etoilée?
See below ?
Guerlain L’Heure de Nuit?
Yes!!!!
You are the only one who remembered that I am doing Guerlain all week ?
My memory is actually shot these days, but I try to remember the important things!?
??
My first thought was also Nuit Etoilee, but then immediately that was followed by “That’s not Guerlain!”
?
I am wearing Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluto and drinking a cup of green tea.
If the question asked by Lovestosmellgood’s perfume yesterday was asked by a very precocious young girl, this would be the answer.
Good girl gone bad?
I am laughing out loud ! Best community project ever..
?
Si by Armani?
☺️
If you combine your and Lillyjo’s answers?
Well now, you’re just making me crazy! Lol
Oh how I wish I had a good guess. This one’s hilarious.
Juicy Couture Oui?
Si Lolita!
Yesss!
Woohoo!
I love it!
Ewwwwwww.
(I love this CP. Y’all are so clever.)
Amazing!
This post made my day
PG Vetiver Matale, also inspired by Kevin! This is really blooming in the heat this morning. But by 2:00 in the afternoon my office will be over-air conditioned!
Oh you smell fantastic. Thanks for the reminder to wear the decant you sent me of this 🙂
I’m wearing the youngest niece of a revered older aunt. Some say the aunt is too refined, some say the niece is too juvenile. I love the more relaxed, casual youngster.
Miss Dior Chérie?
Coco mademoiselle?
Chanel No 5 l’Eau?
Correct!!
Good one and you smell great.
I did remember the bunnies this time round.
SOTD: writing in invisible ink.
Encre Noir?
Nope
Water Calligraphy?
Yes!
Same scent as yesterday. To recap and add:
Evokes a movie currently in theaters, and the translated scent name aligns with a different reference, but one that predates the the movie’s setting.
Think Benedict for the former and Laurel for the latter – it might help.
C’mon, make mom and dad proud.
Yesterday? Yesterday Haze?? Hm these fit your first clue but not the following ones…
Nope. I honestly thought this would be easy…. A newer movie, by the way. (I did enjoy Yesterday…sweet)
About the movie… Is it Current War? Or maybe Avengers?
Nope. A very recent opening.
The perfume house is, to my mind underrated. Certainly not for their jewelry though.
Bulgari Black?
Nope.
Another hint. Second reference is a song.
Is the movie The Lion King?
I went to IMDB to see what’s currently in theaters (because I have no idea) and all I can think is that it maybe has something to do with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?
Yes, that’s the movie. Yes, that’s the movie. Takes place in 1969. The song is from a few years earlier than that and more directly leads to the scent name.
So Benedict and Laurel refer to the song title? And it needs to be translated…..I got nuthin
Benedict Canyon is a key location in the movie. Laurel Canyon, also in L.A., is where the Mamas and Papas lived after recording California Dreamin’. Granted…that was an obscure add on…I was trying to lead folks to L.A..
California Dreamin’ for California Reverie? Please say yes, lol! Or you’ll have to wear it again tomorrow. The jewelry ref was helpful.
You beat me to it. 🙂
Ding! Ding! Ding! I kept waiting for you to get it…knowing you lived there.
Ok, so I thought of it earlier but then decided that California Reverie was already in English ??
California Reverie?
Yes!
“make mom and dad proud” was a nice subtle clue.
Yeah, Elisa, the translation thing was confusing and inaccurate. It really is in English…. I should have phrased that differently.
I figured the “current movie” was probably enough. My brain works oddly….
i never remember the rabbits. 🙁
In a salty musky embrace today. Mmmmm.
Musc Nomade?
no but looks like i must try it!
Musc Nomade?
Two Musc Nomades, but no!
i guess it’s not prominently musky, more of a salty mineral-y skin-on-skin embrace (with an emphasis on embrace, hint hint)
FM Dans Tes Bras
Bingo 😀
Eau de Merveilles?
Here’s my hint: kitties and citrusy roses!
Grace ?
Yes ma’am! ?
I love that bottle! Is it a nice jammy rose scent?
Not at all jammy. It’s bright and citrusy, with a tiny bit of mint, but only when I concentrate on it.
It resembles Rose Ikebana in style, but isn’t as watery as RI.
I’d love to send you some!
Sounds like the lyrics from “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music. It also sounds like a rather pretty perfume.
I will not try to discribe this perfume, becouse its name is right here. It should be easy if yo pay attention. The code was first use in a poplar series of books for children. Ther’s also a firm based on the books. But you can actualy crack the cod without reading the books.
Wow
TiePo sit-EEEE
On the right track, but no. 🙂 BobH and TriesToBeClassy solved it.
?
I’m at work now, but had to log in to thank you, Bear, for the belly laugh.
??
Eau Duelle!
I knew you’d understand! Yes!
Eau Duelle? This is fun!
Yes! Well done.
Glannys, could you please explain as I just don’t even understand knowing it refers to Duelle? Thank you 🙂
If you correct all the errors, the letters will spell out “Eau Duelle”. For example, it should be “dEscribe” instead of “discribe”, so the first letter is “e”. And so on. Omitted letters count too.
I borrowed the idea from Lemony Snicket books. Wide Window, Aunt Josephine’s letter.
Wow, nicely done! I could tell those typos were intentional, but I didn’t know what to do with it.
Wow. I bow to you and those who figured this out! ???
Me too! I just thought glannys was in a hurry. Lol!
SO clever! I am enjoying this so much. A pity that I only have time to “play” today, but I read some of the posts throughout the week. We should do this again!
Since its aug , I figured I should wear a summer favorite before the cold wind blows?
It’s a lemony flanker of my most acquired perfume, from a declining designer house.
I remembered to rabbit at 1 am!
Mugler, of course. Alien Sunessence?
Close, more recent though. Patou has a perfume with a similar name.
Dior Joy?
You were right about the first house.
Alien Eau Sublime!!
You got it!
Kinda sad to hear TM being called declining. Given some of the recent output though, I can’t disagree with you.
I’ve just been so disappointed. The new Angel edt just made me angry.
Sensual plant
I’m sure I could try to make it more difficult, but that just works so well.
Carnal Flower?
Yes! I sprayed a little more than usual since most people who sit near me aren’t in the office today. My eyes actually rolled back as I sniffed myself before leaving home. It’s just too good.
Ha! I thought of Led Zeppelin at first before going to perfume.
Ha!
Haha nice.
Masked magnolia perfume is…
And Hello August!
Masque Milano Kintsugi?
Yes it is!
Well-loved woody pudding from a house past its heydey. I’ll get in trouble if I tell you the dominant note.!
Hmm maybe Organza Indecence?
Good guess but nope.
If ‘past its heyday’ means ‘its scents became overpriced’, then maybe Un Bois Vanille.
I suppose Serge Lutens could also be past it’s hey dey but that is not the one I was thinking about. The house is relatively young, founded in the 70s and has a nice range of perfumes. There used to be a handful of stand alone boutiques in the US but all of these had been closed for at least a good 4 years or so.
A further clue is in my deliberate choice of words as one of the words is very close to part of the perfume name.
Safran Troublant?
Excellent! We have a winner!
I think Glannys is probaby right. but I’ll take a stab at it anyway. Is it Dries Van Noten?
Nope and of course, everyone has differing opinions but I don’t consider FM as past its heydey.
Neither do I but I was ignoring that part. ?
Well=loved woody pudding sounds like it’s worth a sniff, house decline or no.
How did I not see that equals sign instead of a dash??? Derp.
Not as bad as Oreos instead of Orris!
Agreed!
I have one quick minute to post this and I’ll read the comments later, I’m loving this CP.
Ok, my sotd has similar bones to Chanel No. 5, but likes more starch in the collar and is hard to see through.
White Linen?
Good guess but no.
Allure Homme Edition Blanche?
No, the bottle is opaque. Smaller house but an old one.
Cristalle?
See above. Good guess but it’s not Chanel, it’s about similar notes to No 5.
Habanita?
No but that’s an excellent guess! It’s Baghari, Glannys got it.
Baghari?
Ding Ding Ding! Baghari it is!
Glannys, you are on a roll today! ???
Thanks! The guessing game is probably my favorite CP – I just love all those perfume puzzles.
Arpege, in the opaque bottle?
Glannys got it, Baghari, but Arpege is close with the black bottle and similar notes to No. 5!
My hair was braided in tight corn rows –a style I picked up in Kenya where I had been for the last three months. And my heavy backpack was covered in dust from six months abroad, traveling from hostel to hostel. I arrived in this city at about 4 AM and it was pitch black outside. Since I hadn’t figured out where I was going to spend the night, I thought it best to wait on a bench in the airport until the sun rose. Famous for its frisson, food, music, movie stars, and shopping, among other things, my perfume epitomizes this west coast city.
I don’t know what this is, but it definitely makes me feel like I need it haha. I’ll have to google some idea lol!
The city’s name is part of the name of the perfume. . . and the perfume is very much about the city!
Musc 25 Los Angeles?
Elisa P got it!
Bombay Bling!
YEEESSSSS!
I figured you weren’t hanging out on a bench at LAX, lol.
Casablanca was my other guess, but didn’t quite capture the city buzz.
This was a fun one!
Casablanca would have been a good guess for the city–but the perfume would have eluded me.
I love this CP!
Your clue was fun to read…
2nd that!
I think I probably did this last year, but anyway… SOTD has a geographic name, yet does not actually refer to the place according to the perfumer.
Shangri la?
Not the one
Monserrat?
Indeed! I thought you’d get it since you mentioned it the other day ?
Your comment did remind me. I think you used a similar clue last year. ?
I probably did, but I’m lazy like that ?
No CP for me today, it’s post and dash! I’m wearing En Passant. Read all you clever people’s clues later.
You smell great foxbins 🙂
Blu Mediterraneo Cipresso di Toscana which is a great herbal woody cologne after the initial Pine-sol blast (which I kind of like).
I love the Blu Mediterraneo line, havent tried that one, I bet you smell great.
Me, too.
It is an older bottle–I know they relaunched it with different notes.
I love it too. You smell great!
My perfume today has the name of a quadruped.
This is a tough one…
Equestrian? Tiger’s Nest?
Panda?
I could go on…
Not one of those.
Camel?
No, smaller than a camel.
Chinchilla?
I’ll give a clue: not a zoologist scent.
Katy Perry Purr? 4160 Tuesday, Doe in the Snow? ELDO, Afternoon of the Faun?
OMG. I think we’re going on safari!
DSH had a scent named Foxy?
🙂 love the eclectic list but no
Musc Tonkin?
Clever that but no
Kenzo Tiger?
That would be perverse when we all love Jungle Elephant.
My animal lives in the same environment as elephants.
We minus me, lol. I actually prefer the tiger ?
La Panthere
No but lives alongside pantheres/leopards
Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant?
LOL – smaller than camel. 😀
🙂
Weil Antilope? Heeley Esprit du Tigre? Méchant Loup?
I’m starting to think this could be its own CP! Have we done animals?
Yes, we did! I have already thought that maybe we should look for ideas in that CP…
Found it: in 2017 – 12/15: Wild Kingdom Friday…wear a perfume with an animal in its name. If you don’t have one, match your perfume to an animal and tell us about it. Suggested by Elisa.
Oh will you look at that. Apparently I wore civet!
Yes, well done for persevering Glannys it’s Weil Antilope.
Thank you everyone for participating.
You smell classy!
Really have folks guessing hard today!
This one proved harder to crack, but you are all champions.
If it carried on, I thought we might have to build an Ark!
I never remember to rabbit. I didn’t sleep well laat night so it’s hard to rabbit when I really never went to sleep.
My SOTD is good to wear if you find yourself in a dark alley.
Hmmmm… something with lumière…. There is the one by Occitane, and Rochas…. How about MFK’s Lumière Noir?
Bob guessed it… ?
Yep, blanche is better in dark alley than noir!
You were on the right track…
Lumiere Blanche?
Yes, you are killing it today! ?
wow, i’d have never guessed!
I love that you used ‘rabbit’ a verb. Hopefully you will sleep better tonight!
Just too fuzz-brained today from lack of sleep.
I forgot to rabbit until I was awake for about 45 minutes this morning.
Jean-Claude Ellena reportedly used a larger-than-normal dose of the namesake ingredient in this golden scent.
Eau de Neroli Dore?
That’s it!
SotD = My Thursday Favorite + a Hajusuuri split!
LOL, perfume games are so fun. I smell like a lovely rich lady, IMHO 😀
Anyway, I’m wearing Hiris on one arm and a generous spritzing of Chanel Paris – Riviera on the other. I lovelovelove this white floral with woods. It’s a very refined Chanel-in-a-cologne-style reminder of how much I used to love wearing Anais Anais many many years ago.
Thank you to hajusuuri for splitting a bottle with NSTers. I don’t often get to smell something new from Chanel, so this is a real treat.
Dear perfume people, I hope you have a happy rabbit-rabbit-rabbit day!
Agreed on the Chanel Paris-Riviera! And agreed on being thankful for the hajusuuri split. You smell super today!
Woo hoo! I am so glad you like the pink juice!
All the words in the name of this scent begin with the same letter
Anais Anais?
Nope. They’re all different words
Poopoo pidou?
Nope
Bombay Bling
Nope
I am wearing something from a house that someone here had news on earlier this week. The perfume I have on is not one that appeals to everyone.
Did someone just cut open a cantaloupe in here, or a honeydew, perhaps?
Le Parfum de Therese?
Would you be gettin’ Emotionnelle?
I second Emotionnelle!
Gotta be. This is the first one today I would have figured out on my own.
Hmmm, let’s see. I am wearing the naked version of the seductive scent…that’s the best I have for today ha!
Y’all, it’s getting harder and harder to show up to work knowing I have less than a month left. I love my job actually and love the people here, but I can feel that I’m short-timing hard. This morning I thought, “maybe I’ll just go in a little late…” lol. I didn’t but it sure was tempting.
oooo..I love your description but have no guesses
Sensuous Nude?
I feel like that every day and I’m not planning to leave my job! But, yeah, it’d be even worse if I were. Hang in there!
Yep! And the struggle is real!
Sensuous Nude!
Lol, shoulda refreshed the page before I posted. Elisa beat me to it!
KellyC, it sounds like you have serious Senioritis at work 😉
I was a total slacker for the few days that I thought I was getting a different job.
I’m wearing a pepper that can be found grouped with paprika, licorice, amber, spice, and vanilla, to name a few.
Gonna take a stab at the other L’Artisan Pepper – Poivre Piquant?
Right kind of “group” but wrong house – the right answer is below!
Hermes Poivre Samarcande?
Because you listed it with other ingredients in the Hermessence line!
That’s it exactly!
Piment Brulant?
That was supposed to be for Regina above!
No but good guess!
It’s soooo bad! I usually eat lunch at my desk but think I’ll get some cold Korean noodles to perk myself up.
Oops, meant that in reply to holyneroli on my post!
This tiny truck has Haitian roots…
Vetiver Tonka Hermes
Oui oui!
Haha – marvelous clue
Loved this clue! ?
Excellent!
Yes, Emotionnelle is my SOTD! I like to wear that one from time to time and today seemed like a good day.
I am wearing a dark fougere scent witch reminds me a lot of a fur coat stuffed with lavender mothballs, although it Smells much nicer then it sounds.
Fourreau Noir?
MEM?
This richly scented body oil traces its roots back nearly 2000 years with Maohi people. If you purchase the real thing from Tahiti, the process of making the oil is strictly overseen and enfleurage is one of the methods employed. I always picture Jason Mamoa in a lab coat and horn rimmed glasses, but I digress, I layered this with one of my favorite white florals, an American classic and perhaps, the most photorealistic Gardenia perfume.
Some sort of manoi oil. Songes manoi oil, maybe?
It is Manoi Tiare oil! The inexpensive Yves Rocher today! While I love Songes, the perfume I am wearing today is from a storied American cosmetics and fragrance company started by a woman. If it helps, Gardenia is not the only white flower in the name of the perfume.
EL Tuberose Gardenia!
Correct again!
Rose + Violet and very long-lasting.
Lipstick Rose?
Yes! My clues are too easy!
Lipstick Rose? Paris YSL?
Right with the first one!
Nothing wrong with an easy clue!
I’m looking forward to Caprese salad for dinner tonight! Mr. Jalapeno’s CSA box had a bunch of tomatoes that have been ripening on the kitchen counter for the past week. Right now, all of them are a deep red and smell so delicious! ? I’m drooling thinking about it. ?
SOTD = back in TF Orchid Soleil. It smells even better today than it did yesterday. Sorely tempted to try and find a 1oz bottle before they are all gone.
I am drooling too thinking about your ???
We had both “slicing tomatoes” and some heirloom tomatoes. The heirlooms were soooooo very good!
I think I have eaten caprese every night for the past 3 weeks 🙂
I basically decimated our basil plants and had to buy more at the grocery.
I still have loads of basil, but this is only the second time we have had Caprese salad.
I tend to like cherry tomatoes and ever since I had baby burrata at Marina del Cantone (Amalfi Coast), I have been looking for the equivalent here.
The grocery store had small mozzarella balls in oil, but I was looking for something that would go with the large tomatoes we had.
Finally a moment to play!
Sits: An Arabian Rose.
Une Rose Nacrée du Désert??
Good guess but no! It was OJ Ta’if.
Ah, thanks for telling me. Ta’if is another beauty.
I’m wearing something a bit out of season, but it’s still bringing me great joy!
Wrappings?
Oh, you’re good! Exactly correct! Thanks for playing..
