Our standard weekend open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you own but just can't find, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

First one commenting?! That’s a first. In Coromandel- I am becoming obsessed!
Obsessed with that one is a good thing!
It’s so easy to wear for me – even in the heat
Unless you’re obsessed with the EDT and don’t already own a bottle…
I bought a bottle earlier this month but I think its the EDP. Is the EdT even better but discontinued?! Maybe I shouldn’t even ask
Don’t ask ?
I love Coromandel!
Must be good! I can’t wait to try it!
Report back!
Will do!?
Today I am The Only One by D&G
Found some good lippys at Walgreens, one was Soap and Glory
In non perfume related new, headed to Ontario ?? for Canada day and excited to drink some of my FIL chai tea!!!
Have a safe trip, and enjoy the chai! ?
I love Canada – have fun!
Have fun! And have a cup of chai for me!???
What brand lipsticks, or is that a brand? What colors? Inquiring minds want to know!
If you like nudes, the color from Soap and Glory is Naked Talent
The other one I picked up is Spicy Mauve from Maybelline which is a good dupe for Charlotte Tillbury Walk of Shame. A bit lighter but still lovely ! And I saved about 30 bucks ?
Where in Ontario? If you’re headed to Ottawa I have tips 😉
I am starting my day with some matcha, and a spritz of Aziyade, from the Magical Traveling Box of Perfume (lucasai’s ongoing project). Gonna be able to thunk this sample next time out, I think, and might have to buy a bottle in the future – although it seems to be sold out here in the U.S., as luck would have it.
What a cool idea!
Enjoy Aziyade to the fullest and hope you can eventually get it!
Just read the Notes from Cathy post on your site, Lukasz – and the perfume joy continues!
They are redoing their packaging, switching to only 50ml bottles I believe. Fumerie in Portland said they expect new stock later this summer (July/August).
Thanks for the info – 50 ml would do me just fine…..
ZGO Perfumery still has the 100 ml bottle. From what I read on another blog all the new bottles will be 50 ml and cost MORE than what the 100 ml are currently selling for. So half the amount of perfume for more ???
So, you know that I am now internally agitating about purchasing a 100 ml bottle, right?
No if you purchased a 100 ml bottle that is a good thing!!! The price is much much better! $160 for 100 ml which equates to $80 for 50 ml.
And you can save it and offer it up in the next split meet ?
How do you drink your matcha? I love an iced matcha latte in the summer, but haven’t developed a taste for it prepared any other way.
I just throw some powder in a cup, add hot water, and use one of those little battery operated milk frothers to whisk it. Agreed, though – I think matcha goes surprisingly well with milk and/or cream. Maybe add some cream to a cup of hot matcha?
Milk frother! Very clever.
Back home just a while ago from the funeral that was yesterday. I feel tired now after 6 hours long drive.
I spritzed some Dom Rosa from Liquides Imaginaires in the morning but it has evaporated by now, gonna re-apply.
I hope you have a chance to rest and recoup today, lucasai. Take care of yourself. ?
Do take some time to recover–driving long distances is so draining.
Hi y’all. SOT(yester)D was See by Chloe. Very pretty, nice and light.
I believe it was Time Travel Friday on the blog so See was my time capsule because I remember owning a little teeny adorable bottle of Chloe in high school or before and thinking that I did not want to use up the juice because that would mean I’d have to throw the bottle away and it was too cute to do that. Not sure what I am going to wear today. Perhaps some Stella.
P.S. i am fully aware the above was one long run on sentence; perhaps I am not quite awake as of yet.
I like the idea that you didn’t want to use it up anyway, run on sentence or no 🙂
We’re having hot summer days and I’m craving cool season fragrances, I don’t really understand what’s happening. (Do they use the word craving for perfume?) On one arm I have Diptyque Volutes, and the other Eau Duelle, trying to decide which one to get a decant of. I love both. Eau Duelle is similar to Vanille Insensee, which has been getting a lot of use lately, but I still find it different enough in character to want Eau Duelle as well.
I use the word craving when referring to perfumes. I need to try Eau Duelle, Vanille Insensee is a favorite of mine and I think it has enough citrus that it would work well in the heat. It’s not a syrupy vanilla imo.
House twins!
The concept of deciding on which decant to get is lost on me: I’m familiar with deciding on which bottle (we can’t have them all); I understand thinking on whether you like it enough to get a decant; but if you like them both, even if it’s a financial decision, still the answer is “both” – just not at the same time 🙂
I like both of these perfumes, and think that they are different enough to own and wear both of them.
I’m drinking MF Wedding Imperial tea, wearing Ballet Rose and nibbling on some dark chocolate I bought at the Ferry Building in San Francisco in January. Hoarding the last of the two bars… ?
I love that tea! Yum!
OMG you have kept chocolate since JANUARY I am so impressed!
That’s six. entire. months.
I can hoard dark chocolate, no problem. Milk chocolate…I can’t even allow into the house. I have no control. ?
Carnal Flower on a hot, humid, sunny day.
Feelin’ frisky ?
????
Enjoy being frisky
Hmmmm…..a frisky bear?! Watch out world.
Excellent! I’m going to spray my sample when I get home. Let’s see if it works for me???
Uh-oh. Watch out for Deva’s bear spray.
I’ve found Carnal Flower to be great for extreme temps!
It’s another hot one today, so I think I’ll go with Assam of India again. We went without the AC yesterday, but I got outvoted by my family and it went back on at bedtime, lol.
My daughter and I have spent several hours this week getting her packed and ready to head to summer camp this upcoming week. She will be returning to the camp she spent part of 8 summers at as a kid, not as a camper this time, but as an employee!?Where has the time gone!? She is excited and of course I’m super excited for her, but she’s been home from college for 6 weeks and I’ve kind of gotten used to her being around.? madtownteen will join her in a few weeks and then they’ll be there together. That’s when I wish I could be a fly on the wall, or better yet, the camp nurse.
They will have such a good time…..you need to enjoy the peace and quiet while you can!
I’m sure they will have a great time! You are right, I will enjoy a little peace and quiet knowing they are having fun.
Warm and humid here, I sprayed Guerlain Plus Que Jamais copiously but already can’t smell it. Will spray some more.
Random Q, but are you a Nexus cardholder what with all the border crossing you do? I’m thinking about applying for one.
No, I have dual citizenship, so I enter with the passport of the country I’m entering.
You’ve got the best of both worlds!
In the 90s here and very humid. Work has been intense so I hVent been posting much but have truly appreciated the breaks that nstperfume comments afford me.
I’ve been wearing a lot of VCA Bois d Iris (thanks to my nst swapper!) and Jardin sur le Nil. jslN was one of my absolute favorites in my first year of collecting what I then thought of as “niche”, so many years ago. I now know it as mainstream— it’s even in Sephora now as you all know! Back then, my city didn’t have a Nordstrom, Sephora, or Neumann Marcus so this was a truly rare perfume to me. I hadn’t worn it in a year and it’s perfect (so perfect!) in the heat.
I will need to ponder what I consider mainstream.
I’m sampling three Diptyques.
This was probably not a good idea.
Ofresia: a pretty freesia soliflore but for me, it’s one of those flowers that I enjoy from a distance and not poking my nose directly into. Since I just gave myself an eensy spritz, I resorted to yep! sticking my nose into where I applied it. I will need to give it another go as I like this sort of fragrance that smells like a florist, like Smell Bent’s Florist’s Fridge and Demeter’s Flower Show. To me, they’ have a cooling effect ideal for summer.
Eau de Lierre: this one is not working on my skin at all. I’ll leave it at that.
Tempo: I think this is a very nice, refined patchouli but it’s not singing to me at the moment. I think I will give it another try on its own.
I thought I had a sample of Fleur de Peau to reach my typical reeking havoc limit of four, but now I’m pretty grateful I don’t! These three are enough.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
You win some you loose some ! Thanks for all the feedback
Aw, thank you Lovestosmellgood! It’s so nice to know that my rambling and strictly personal feedback is appreciated. I hope that you enjoy your time up in Canada!
You are brave!
Ha! Thanks for putting a positive spin on it! ?
Sipping my coffee, just sprayed Dame Earth Mother.
Have to hustle this morning as it’s Pride weekend and traffic across the city is bound to be a mess. Thankfully main parade is tomorrow not today. Last time there was a Saturday parade (St. Patty’s) and I didn’t realize it, spent nearly 2 hours in traffic before deciding, “Dance class ain’t happening.”
Not sure I can tolerate the crowds anymore, else parade would be fun to go to tomorrow. It’s been a few years.
??️?❤️ to everyone enjoying the festivities this weekend in SF!
Hope you made it to wherever you were going!
Currently wearing Goutal Eau du Sud, which I’ve been wearing a lot a refresher when I can’t deal with anything heavier or just want a little pick-me-up. Going to a jazz show tonight (Christian McBride) and am unsure what to wear. My standard (winter) jazz performance perfume is Guerlain SDV but that might be a bit much. I’m thinking about Bois des Iles EDT…?
Thinking about SDV made me wonder if I forgot to wear it this past winter. I’m dealing with some health issues (primarily chronic fatigue) that impact my cognition (so it’s possible I wore it a ton and have just forgotten), but I’ve also been living in a separate room from my perfumes so I don’t spend as much time with them as I used to. Instead of digging through my collection once or twice or a few times a day, I usually just pull some seasonal stuff out and put it in my bedroom. That’s what I wear for months on end so if something doesn’t make the first cut it’s pretty much out of sight, out of mind.
BTW, hi and long time no see! back to everyone who responded to my post the other day. See above as to why I haven’t been around much :/. I’ve also had other internet obsessions and can only juggle so many at once 😉
Hi! It’s good to see you. I’m sorry you’re having health issues, and that it’s keeping you away from your perfumes (well, some of them). I hope you’ll get better and have more energy for all of your hobbies.
BdI is great for any occasion, in my opinion.
Thanks, and good to see you too! Hope you’re doing well yourself. Agree on BdI, and I love the EDT in the heat.
To be clear, my health issues haven’t stopped me from wearing perfume, just from talking about it here 🙂 (And probably not incoincidentally – from buying so much of it ?)
Glad to see you here!
Likewise! Hope you’re well. Know you’re smellin’ good 🙂
Sorry to hear about your health issues, K. I hope they can get sorted out. I think you smell wonderful in Eau du Sud. It’s one of my summer favorites on my boyfriend, but I can easily wear it too. I’m curious about your other internet obsessions if you feel like sharing.
Hey, TRF! Good to see you!
Other internet obsessions: buying gear for a different climate (do you own rain gear? I never did until I moved here where you need both shoes and coats for deluges and wading through not so much puddles as lakes in temps from 35F-90F. I did not know rain until I moved here, which is kind of ironic. Add to that buying gear for temps well under freezing which I obviously didn’t need before.) Buying skincare for a different climate. Travel (both fantasy and actual – one of the perks with the move is 5 free RT domestic flights every year *eyebrow waggle*). Investing in good luggage for the previously mentioned. So fun stuff 🙂 and spending money on things that aren’t perfume.
As to my health issues, I didn’t know until we moved here that the Cleveland Clinic provides some of the best health care in the world, much less the US. I could write a book (my sister has actually suggested I should) but the short of it is that instead of visiting doctors who roll their eyes at me or imply that I am crazy, I am working with a team of specialists and have a support group to deal with the health issues that have affected me for over 30 years and been pretty debilitating for the last 10, preventing me from working. So – finally! – yes, things are getting sorted out.
Hope Seattle is good. Guessing it’s not 90F there! hehe ?
Nice travel perk. And glad you have a team of healthcare folks now. That really matters.
It really does. And it is a great perk!
Cleveland Clinic is indeed the best. We have a top-ranked university hospital in our town but still make the drive there to see specialists. I am glad you’re in good hands.
I can’t tell you how incredibly grateful I am. You must be nearby? Ish?
I am in Ann Arbor so it’s a three hour drive. Another reason I drive to Cleveland is Indigo Perfumery ?
Good to see you back, kpaint! Glad to see that you finally found an outlet for your issues where you previously bumped up against brick walls.
If you don’t mind, please share the waterproof things you’ve found in your search – especially footwear.
And I will add that Merrell’s hiking boots (ankle and short) are ???.
Hajusuuri, my Merrell’s are getting great use on Serengeti.
So sorry about your health issues, @kpaint. I’ve been lurking mostly, dealing with a life-changing medical issue since January. I live in Boston, so good hospitals aren’t an issue, but the people who got me through 20 days inpatient were the nurses. Thanks @Holly and @Deva, and all of you medical folks who take care of patients who are very ill and overwhelmed.
Part of being ill has been needing to use supplemental oxygen 24×7 and a punishing antibiotic regimen with unpleasant side effects, which include extreme fatigue. At least another year and a half of antibiotics to go. Nothing tastes or smells right, and it’s so hard to breathe I’ve mostly stopped wearing perfume. Fate and No. 19 are the only ones I can manage.
Any suggestions for an easy-to-wear scent? I miss perfume.
And have a great day all. Hot as Hades and humid here. Thank god for air conditioning.
Aw, thank you anngd! It’s great to see you here! I’m so sorry that you’ve had what sounds like a very tough time. I hope that you will have a full recovery after such a long and intense treatment regimen. Sending you a big hug, prayers and positive healing vibes.
You poor thing! I find Bulgari au Thé Bleu very easy to wear. Wishing you a complete recovery!
Thanks, Holly. Wishing you the best with your treatment and recovery. And cazaubon, thanks for the recommendation. Off to shop for Thé Bleu.
anngd, you have my deepest sympathies and I hope you come out for the best on the other side.
As to perfume suggestions: Annick Goutal Eau du Sud. It smells like grapefruit and lime zest and is super refreshing and light. It also doesn’t last very long, which is a good thing in this particular scenario. It’s what I wear when I’m nauseated and can’t deal with anything heavy, cloying or long-lasting or need a little refreshment. It’s like a tonic in the heat.
Best to you and thanks for de-lurking!
Kpaint, glad you are getting the help you need, and I’m with your sister — write a book!
Thank you. There are tens of thousands of women who could write the same story but I have hope that we are on the cusp of getting the attention (and research dollars) we deserve. It all comes down to more women being in positions of power.
That’s so funny – I was the opposite with rain gear. I didn’t buy any until I moved to the Pacific Northwest. In Ohio I relied mainly on a large, sturdy umbrella to cover me in any kind of rain and wore thick-soled black boots when it was pouring. Never had a raincoat as an adult until I moved to Seattle. I blame this mostly on the difference in lifestyle. In Columbus, Ohio, I drove pretty much everywhere because the city was very spread out. Here in Seattle I walk most places except work (and for a time I was walking to work 45 minutes each way). So if I want to go out and about in my neighborhood from October-May I need to be prepared to wear a rain jacket and waterproof shoes. I even have three different rain jackets for different temps. And I don’t use an umbrella here because the rain is way less heavy.
So awesome that you and your husband get those travel perks! That’s a great way to go places you’ve always wanted to go and those you never really thought about visiting.
Yes, you moved to the right city for good healthcare. I’m glad you’ve finally got a good team working with you!
Seattle has been just beautiful lately. This weekend it’s been mid-upper 70s and sun. ?
Good to have you back. I felt bad for you all winter. It was awful.
As you’re so sweet to think of me. It actually wasn’t as bad as I’d anticipated. We don’t even get snow accumulation here so lots of folks have it worse. It’s long and cold, though!
No accumulation,! I got 81 inches this past winter.
Lovely to see you here, kpaint! I’m so sorry that you have had difficult health issues, but thank goodness that they’re finally being addressed appropriately. Kudos to you for hanging in there and despite it all having the strength to stay the course and remain proactive. I’m so happy to hear that you have found a healthcare team that is respectful of your needs, and I hope that their plan of care will do the trick.
Thanks for the kind words, Holly! Sounds like maybe you’ve been through something similar? Lots of people – particularly women – have.
kpaint, I have been through some baffling health issues and received short shrift. I’ve been bullied, demeaned and disregarded. When you’re not feeling well, this can be incredibly disheartening and confusing and a tough battle that many are just not up to.
I’m also an RN and have had to stick my neck out for my patients, fight against the system and validate what my patients tell me. I thank you for contributing your voice, and I hope that you understand that there are those among us in the healthcare field who support you and are looking for answers. I’m so grateful that you have come here to talk about your experiences and I hope that you know that what you have to share is invaluable and will serve others.
You’ve summed it up well and while I don’t wish baffling (or any manner) of health issues on anyone, I’ll bet it’s made you a better nurse. We need a lot of changes, beginning with medical school and training.
Thank you for validating and fighting for your patients. We all need someone like you in our court.
Chronic fatigue is so debilitating, I’m so sorry (a good friend of mine suffers from it too) but very glad you’re in good hands.
Thanks, Aurora. I hope your friend is getting the help and support she needs.
Nice to see you back, kpaint!
Good to see you, too!
I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with health issues kpaint. Like lillyjo, I thought of you often over this past winter.
I am glad to hear you have found a health team that is helping you get it sorted out! I hope better days are on the horizon!?
Thanks, mtg! I thought of you often as well 🙂
Hey there! Sorry to hear about your health issues, but glad you’ve found a team who take you seriously! I’ve had some of those frustrating medical experiences, too, and unfortunately, women are taken less seriously than men. Like Holly, aside from personal experience, I see it from a professional perspective as well. I have a friend who suffers from CFS and fibromyalgia and her partner has rheumatoid arthritis. They actually go to an Ayurvedic facility in India for treatment for 6 weeks every year! Her partner has especially gotten great relief and is now studying ayurveda in Albuquerque!
I was just reading about Ayurvedic treatment for CFS recently, it’s fascinating.
(I lurk on phoenixrising, the CFS forum — I don’t have CFS but it’s a fountain of information if you’re self-treating related methylation issues)
Hey back, elisa p! Thanks for the input (I also think we might have some crossover medical issues – reynaud’s for one.) In seeking out a CFS specialist I ended up at Functional Medicine. I’m open to anything that might help and will take a look at Ayurveda.
Also, thanks Robin for leading me to phoenixrising. I will check it out and wish you the best with your own issues.
Tried Gallivant Berlin at bedtime last night. It’s a bit too masculine for me. But this morning it’s sunny and headed for 80 degrees or so by afternoon, so my SOTM is FM Eau de Magnolia. Bless the lovely NSTer who introduced me to this beauty.
Have you tried Istanbul? Very feminine
I have, and iirc Istanbul was my favorite of the discovery set. I’ll try it again tonight. Seems like I liked Brooklyn also, but at the moment I can’t quite remember. Mr. G made us some lovely lemondrops for our first “cocktails on the patio” evening of this summer and they are apparently impairing my memory. 😀
I liked Brooklyn and Istanbul best as well. I liked Istanbul enough to buy a bottle and always get compliments when I wear it. But it has a synthetic dry down note that’s beginning to bother me
Hello All,
YAYYYY & thumbs up or Annick Goutal! I purchased a small bottle of Grand Amour and it is sooooooooo delicious. I keep sniffing the bottle.
So I have been kinda bad….. I finally broke down and bought my FB of Mem by Bogue, why fight it after 2 years??? I adore this fragrance and love to see it evolve from lavender to jasmine and then onward. It’s tough for some to wear I think. My scent eating skin needs the power. I caved and purchased Ninfeo Mio also (where’s Donatella, hopefully at the beach with Robin (shoulder shrug ) and also a ! fb of Tabac Blond for my daughter in LA, it is just SOOOO her. We just returned and we brought her cat back home with us, she was miserable in a 600sq ft studio and that is cause for celebration in itself!
Next I did some preparation and studied some fabulous scents that I plan to wear like St Clairs’s Casablanca. I did purchase a small bottle of this last winter. I then found my cherished sample of Grimoire by Anatole Lebreton and wore it yesterday I forgot how much I love this. Mid day after my bike ride I can still smell it on me from last nite – I would FB this one if I had mad money.
Shangri La from Hiram Green was another recent purchase – I am thrilled with it, the dry down lasts forever and the references to Mitsouko are interesting, it was a blind buy at a good sale price.
I really need to unpack but I’m off for some good margaritas w/ my BFF and am gifting Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant to her daughter.
I feel like the perfume fairy waving my wand madly about the universe.
Look out Papillion Artisan perfumes, I am headed your direction . I am so curious about Bengale Rouge.
Happy weekend and holiday vacation week to those clever folks who planned well.
I love everything about this post! Where did you get the deal on Shangri La?
Hi Lillyjo, it was on special earlier this spring as he announced he was discontinuing it – I think there was an issue with the amount of oak moss (which promptly pushed my BUY button!)I I think it was offered at Luckyscent.
Ohhh you have mentioned lots of fragrances I would love to try, you smell great, enjoyed reading your post! Plus bike ride is the best.
Thanks Gabriela! I have been off line for awhile. I miss this place!
Perfume fairy image made me happy
?
Oh, lots happening in your world! How exciting! Have a margarita for me, please! ?
I did Girl! 😉 Happy to serve.
Enjoy your new Grand Amour, I have a bottle too.
Thanks Aurora!!
You and me both with Bengale Rouge! It’s good to see you!
Thank you H. Please share your thoughts when you sample!!
Looks like Donatella will be here in a couple days, sounds like she will be pleased.? Enjoy your new purchases!
Wow! Some nice acquisitions! I really like MEM, too, but it’s a hair too sweet for me- reminds me of Sarrasins somewhat, which I love.
I loved reading your whole post! Nice to see another Grimoire fan. It reminded me of the older decant I had and loved of Messe de Minuit. My more recent MdM bottle just doesn’t smell as good. If you decide to go for a bottle of Grimoire, I’d be glad to split some with you. I also can’t wait to try the new Papillion.
Hello Fragrant Friends… too hot for me today, so inside with laundry and a ton of household chores (I’m looking at you, pantry!)
SOTD–Chanel Paris-Deauville. I like it, but I don’t love it. Money saved. In two weeks I will be in London for a day or two. Any suggestions for sniffing? Anybody been in a TKMaxx lately? Any buys to be had? Please chime in so that I can make some quick plans…..
Stay cool
For an all in one place fragrance experience, Liberty deparment store on Regent Street.
I also read that Jovoy, 21 Conduit St is really good. Also, Bloom Perfumery in Covent Garden has all the niche brands. Enjoy your trip.
And there is a TK maxx right next to Bloom!
Oooh, take me with you! How was the cruise or is that coming up?
Hi folks. I’ve been meaning to stop in and say hi for a while but I had a heck of a time with my password reset. I finally got it to work, obviously, but for a while there I thought I’d been deleted or something.
It’s humid here and I just got out of the shower after doing some weeding and sweating like crazy. Now I’m going to go down and try to straighten out the basement. No perfume yet. I’ll spritz something on later.
Haven’t had much money for perfume these past few years but I really am itching to buy a new bottle of something. I’m just not sure what I want yet.
I hope you all are well.
Poodle! Welcome back!
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? It’s nice to be back.
Yes, Welcome Back!
Hi Poodle! Good to see you!
Hi Poodle! I’ve missed you and am so happy to see you here! Have you been sampling and have potential fb candidates, or candidates from the past?
It’s nice to be missed. ?
I haven’t done much sampling. Believe it or not I’ve actually been using what I already have and have emptied…4, yes four, bottles in the past 2 months. None are anything I would replace. I wear a lot of nondescript, mainstream, boring stuff to work. They smell okay but are otherwise forgettable. I won’t wear my favorites to work for fear they would forever remind me of that god forsaken place. Lol.
I still have some things on my long neglected wish list that I still would like. A few are probably already discontinued.
*Waves* Stay cool!
Welcome back poodle, so nice to see you!
So good to see you Poodle! ??
Welcome back, poodle ???.
All – I’ve met poodle in person and she is very lovely, funny and down-to-earth!
I miss you and Daisy.
“Lovely, funny, and down-to-earth”? Girl, you’re gonna make me blush.
Welcome back poodle!
Nice to see you! I’ve missed that bespectacled poodle ?
Great to see you, poodle! I wish you to buy some great perfume that would completely overpower any bad vibes that you get from your work place.
Welcome, poodle, and so sorry about the password issues!
Welcome back Poodle! Very good to see you! ?
I’m wearing a lot of Black March, on my shirt, in my hair, about 8 sprays total. It doesn’t last on me but I love it. Might have to get the oil version eventually.
I love Black March. So unlike anything else … other than damp potting soil, of course. Which, somehow, smells very clean to me.
Yum.
Went a bit insane… California Rêverie sprayed multiple times. And then Terracotta on top of that. It’s hot out.
I think those two play well together
I have both of those out for summer wear. ? I’ve been wearing Terracotta a ton, though I was never terribly fond of it until wearing it in a hot, humid climate (as opposed to dry and not-hot.) I continually find myself being surprised by how different my perfumes smell in the Midwest vs. Northwest. I found myself unable to wear a lot of my winter faves, which I didn’t anticipate. They were just too intense in the dry dry cold.
That is so interesting…the difference in wearing.
It’s a bit like having a new wardrobe of perfumes, working out what works in that new climate.
That is very useful information I had a similar experience w/Terracotta. Would be perfect for DC weather right now.
Must re-try! Thanks Kpaint.
I love California Reverie!
SOTD is PdE Ambe Russe, cause it was a wee bit chilly. Looking forward to catching up on comments. Have a great weekend!
Enjoy the cool weather, Deva.
Gimme that chilly weather!
Hey everyone! I’ve had a total bummer of a week. Coming here and “seeing” you all always cheers me up. Thank you to Robin and everyone. Today I wore Arielle Shoshana for work. I was going to try out my Carnal Flower sample tonight, but I put it somewhere “safe”, and forgot where. Lol, someday I hope I find forgotten money! I feel bad I couldn’t participate in CM8’s cp project yesterday, my head just wasn’t with it. I wore No.22 in the day and Dark Horse at night.
I really like Dark Horse. It’s on my wish list.
Mine too. I see they have a Body cream as a more affordable option, but you never know if it smells the same. It’s really super great that you are back ?
Sorry about your bad week and wishing you much better weeks ahead
Thanks Yasmina.
Sorry about your week, Lillyjo, better times ahead, you smell great.
Thank you, birthday month twin!
Oh, maybe that explains why we seem to share many perfume loves 🙂
Hope you find the CF stat! It’ll make next week better! If you don’t, I find Gucci Bloom to be just as good at a much more reasonable price 🙂
Found it this morning! I’m going to wear it to work tonight.
That’s interesting you say that about Bloom and Carnal – I smelled the latter on a blotter recently right after purchasing Bloom and had the same thought!
Wishing you better times ahead. And don’t ever feel bad about not participating in the CP. I love it when you share the songs that come to mind when you wear certain perfumes. Last week, I attended a panel discussion (somehow “fireside chat” did not fit with the hellish temps). One of the panelists provided a tip on how to be resilient – “Do not ad hoc you.” Be deliberate in what you do. Do not be who you think others want you to be.
Hajusuuri, you nailed it! That is exactly the problem. I’m old enough now, that I know who I am, the good and the bad. I no longer want to apologize for not living up to other peoples expectations of who I should be. And, can’t help but put the Popeye song in here… ” I am what I am and that’s all what I am, I’m Popeye the sailor man” LOL!
A modern day Popeye would have that as a tattoo right under the anchor on his left arm, and some spinach leaves under the one on his right!
Hope your day today is much better. Cheer up! It is summer time! ?❤???
Ha! Indeed it is. No matter what, I will enjoy the season for sure ?
We are already setting up for back to school at work! Lol
Good luck with the back to school craziness! You will survive!
I’m sorry about your bummer week lillyjo. I’m glad to see you here today so that I can give you your enabler pin.? I got some samples in the mail from luckyscent yesterday and as I was opening them my daughter says to me “I thought your New Years resolution was to stop buying so much perfume.” “These are just samples.”?I say. Anyway, Santal Carmin was one of those samples, and it is gorgeous! I’ve already been eyeing travel sprays on evilbay.
I hope today is looking up for you, my friend!??
I love Santal Carmin too, hope you find a good deal!
Oh yay! Glad you like it.
No worries, lillyjo! There were plenty of other folks who chose not to participate either 😉
I hope you have a great week and a wonderful summer! I may be off the grid for a while.
Thank you cm8, I hope you have a great summer as well! It’s always a treat to see you post, so hope you aren’t gone to long.
Wishing you a better week this week! 🙂
Thank you!
Sorry about your crappy week 🙁 Nice perfume choices, though, and hope this week redeems itself. Report back on the Carnal Flower!
Thanks!, I’m at work now, sweating like a pig, but I smell very Grand. I’m getting alot of sweetness from CF, idk, I think this might be a fall weather one for me.
Sorry to hear that last week was a bad one, lillyjo. I hope that this week is a better one!
Thanks Jalapeno!
Well, summer weather is here, 33C yesterday after a cool month of June, it was my birthday and I was volunteering at the library in the safe but a bit boring Emporio Armani Diamonds Violet.
I misplaced two bottles of vintage Oscar some time ago and they still haven’t turned up but I have my Oscar extrait in the fridge so I’m not totally bereft. The extrait is very beautiful and it is in a lovely presentation box, the bottle is all glass and it is numbered.
Not yet decided for today but I’m leaning towards fig, Fico di Amalfi or Jardin en Mediterranee, I like my figs rather aromatic than creamy for summer.
I have a couple of little bottles of vintage Oscar extrait and it is gorgeous (as is the EDT.) IIRC it was the first vintage perfume I really went all out on, doing research and the like to make sure I was getting the original juice.
I also love Esprit d’Oscar, but haven’t worn any of the above in ages. I’ll have to remember to pull out the EDT to wear this summer.
Happy birthday and enjoy the scorching hot weather! (or your escape from it) 🙂
Thank you kpaint! and so glad you have Oscar extrait too, yes the EDT and Esprit d’Oscar are easier to wear in the heat of summer – today is actually a gorgeous day with a breeze and white clouds, made all the difference while grocery shopping.
Happy Birthday! and happy summer weather?
Your Oscar extrait bottle sounds so nice. Fingers crossed the vintages turn up.
Thank you Lillyjo, beautiful day today. Yes, if you have a chance smell the extrait it is as good as vintage l’Heure Bleue. The missing bottles remain a mystery.
Do you keep the box in the refrigerator as well?
No, just the bottle 🙂
Happy birthday!
Thank you, Yasmina, it’s a nice ‘in between’ birthday not a major landmark.
Happy Birthday! Oscar extrait is a perfect beauty!
Thank you perfumelover, glad to discover Oscar extrait is appreciated on NST.
Happy Birthday Aurora!?
Thank you madtowngirl, love the bouquet emoji.
And happy birthday ☺️
Thank you hajusuuri!
Happy Birthday, Aurora!
Thank you Holly!
Happy belated birthday!
Thank you Cazaubon!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you poodle, your gravatar makes me smile 🙂
Happy Birthday Aurora! ??
Thank you Elisa for the wishes and the emojis!
Happy Birthday! Stay cool. If you have a couple of inches of free space in your fridge, you could put one of your fig scents in there and spray it cold.
Thank you Undina. I only have my most precious bottles in one of the vegetable drawers so there is space and your idea is a very good one.
Happy birthday, Aurora! I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend. ?
Thank you Nancy for the wishes and the emoji, cake was indeed part of the celebration.
Happy Scented Birthday Aurora! ?????
Thank you Jalapeno, loving the emojis!
Hope it was a wonderful birthday Aurora!
Thank you, Robin, yes it was and it’s also special getting all the good wishes here on NST.
Thunderstorms this morning, but it’s supposed to clear up. Going to a puppy birthday party for my little girl Mila and her litter mates, I made cookies and brownies, yum! Wearing Mon Précieux Nectar and hoping it doesn’t attract the bugs. 🙂
Happy Birthday to Mila! Hope it’s a great day. Of course with brownies, it will be ?
Oh, that sounds so fun and adorable! Family reunion ?
Happy Birthday to Mila! Take a lot of pictures.
Happy Birthday to Mila! ???????
Happy Birthday to Mila! What a fun day.
Oh, I want to go to the puppy birthday party! And eat brownies! It sounds like a marvelous way to spend the day.
Oh, what fun! Happy birthday to your dear Mila. ?
Thank you everyone! The party was great fun. We took lots of pictures, and the brownies and sugar cookies I made were a hit. Mila is crashed out on the couch already. 🙂
There must have been SO much cute at Mila’s puppy party! ?
There was!! A whole herd of cute little fluffy dogs (Papillons). 🙂
Boy, is it ever gorgeous out today which is redeeming from yesterday’s swelter. My drumming group played at an outdoor festival/slash block party in Bed-Stuy and it was 91 degrees, with lots of concrete, asphalt, and no greenery on that block. ? I only wore some L’Occitane Verveine cooling hand gel
Last night I wore Heeley Note de Yuzu out to dinner.
Not sure what I’ll wear today yet. Maybe Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine which has become my favorite jasmine this summer. I was sad when I drained my decant of the Diptyque Essenses Insensee jasmine, as that was a favorite then. I think I might prefer the Grandiflora as it has a bit of cooling green in it- makes me think of Carnal Flower, but jasmine.
Sounds like a great event in spite of the heat, enjoy today’s weather, you make the Grandiflora sound like a winner.
Wow, that is hot for drumming, or anything! Hope it was great fun anyway.
I got really motivated and decided to rearrange and clean my room. I woke up super late and in a haze of Sarrasins. Scent less at the moment and thinking either Courtesan or the original Miss Dior.
Good for you!
For this gorgeous Sunday morning, I’ve decided to wear Lann Ael. Love the hay, the milk, the cereal – all of it. It’s comforting, and dreamy-smile-inducing.
I’m breaking my three day fast in about an hour. I’m a little surprised at how less difficult it was than I anticipated. Could be because I am somewhat used to not eating for certain periods of time; I do intermittent fasting periodically, and so have gotten over the anxiety about going without food for more than a few hours.
I hope all of you are smelling good, and enjoying the day.
Wow that’s amazing. Did you drink water during the fast? The longest fast I have done is 15 waking hours. It was great.
I drank tons of water, and had a single cup of black coffee in the morning (I didn’t want to go through caffeine withdrawals at the same time). It was surprisingly – well, I wouldn’t say it was easy, but it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I feared it might be. For me, it was much more a struggle with my mind than a physical hurdle. I feel good, and I will likely do this again. I have been reading a lot about the health benefits of fasting, and I also like the sense that I am in utterly complete control of what I put into my body, unlike my habitual state of being buffeted by random urges and cravings, eating for comfort, or out of boredom.
Yes that in control feeling is great. I also saved a ton of mental and physical energy on food prep. I was surprised to see how much time that took when I didn’t have to do it
Agreed – I am a person who spends a lot of time thinking about food, poring over recipes, preparing grocery lists, shopping, prepping, cooking, eating, and cleaning up. There were several moments over the three day period when I realized I had copious amounts of extra time on my hands. 🙂
That’s interesting – I have a terrible time fasting, I guess my body is not good at burning fat so once my glucose runs out, I start feeling really bad. Plus on Jewish fast days you’re not allowed any liquids either, so that makes it harder. But in general, I dislike food preparation so I eat very simple, quick things.
Yes, I would think fasting without liquid would be very, very difficult. And, not really recommended for more than a short period of time.
I cannot fast…last time I tried it, I actually put on weight, ha! I read a long explanation somewhere about why some people can fast successfully and some people can’t.
I’m relieved to hear that you stayed well hydrated during your fast.
I was fairly gurgling!

Wearing Un Petit Rien, a bottle popped up on ebay for a decent price and I snagged it! I now have a back up bottle so I’m wearing it with abandon 🙂 Off to a jazz concert in the park- go away rain clouds 🙁
Oh good for you, and hope the concert is fun (and dry)!
I was in ELDO Dangerous Complicity this morning, but lost track of it, to be truthful. Several hours later, after scissor trimming the pupper down and bathing her, I’m in Eau de Dawg.
I still have some left in the sample, so I’ll try again tomorrow. I liked what little I tried though…
Last night was doggie grooming session at our house too. 🙂 My perfume has burned off to so I switched to BPAL Snake Oil.
Hello NST! I attended a birthday dinner for a friend yesterday. It was a significant number, and I was happy to be part of her big day. I met several of her friends for the first time… a good bunch all around.
SOTD = Niki de Saint Phalle EdT, from the sample stash and a lovely NSTer. I’m pretty sure I would have remembered smelling this one back in the day… it is unlike any other green I have sniffed. Would be a great Halloween perfume!
Plus, one of the coolest perfume bottles ever!
My weekend varied between stretches of being very busy and stretches of getting nowhere fast.
On Saturday afternoon, I made it to a mini Pride party at the local library. That was fun.
Sunday I did two line editing jobs. Keeps me off the streets and out of trouble. lol
Scent both weekend evenings was Peng Lai.
