Happy World Oceans Day! We're celebrating with our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance that reminds you of your favorite spot by the ocean, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Acqua di Sale Profumum Roma
Good choice
SOTM is Zoologist Nightingale, sample #4.
So far, I am grateful that it isn’t too sweet (Hummingbird and Moth were both heavy on the honeyed notes) and doesn’t smell like poop (Hyrax, although there was a hint of fecal notes to Moth, too).
There’s something in Nightingale that is reminding me of a decant of vintage (not sure how old–gold juice) No. 19 that was given to me by a wonderful NSTer years ago, and that’s a complimentary comparison, in my book!
That sounds like a winner. Although poop and honey are 100% appropriate notes for a line called “Zoologist”.
That’s fair. Not sure what I was expecting, really!
Nightingale is my favorite zoologist! You smell fantastic!
Why, thank you!
I’ve really wanted to love something from this line as I admire the creator and his vision and the adorable bottles. Yet… none of them have worked for me thus far. I can appreciate what I interpret as artistry and innovation, and I enjoy the simple act of smelling stuff, but I haven’t yet found one that I would look forward to wearing.
I am fairly cautious, by perfumista standards, in which scents I acquire. I have to feel like something is wearable, different enough from what I already have, and it needs to last several hours. That makes a high enough bar that I rarely purchase new scents anymore (when you get enough bottles, “different enough” becomes even more of a challenge!).
But I agree, it is good to smell things that are well-made and interesting! I decided to give these a go, since they get so much love here. So far, though, I’m with you–nothing I need, yet.
These are good rules, Marjorie Rose.
Thanks!
The first year “down the rabbit hole,” I did what pretty much everyone else does–bought practically everything that was at all interesting to me (mostly minis and decants, thank goodness!). With increased exposure, though, I learned to be more discriminating. The downside is I almost never have anything to swap! Bums me out when something I love becomes available that way.
Have you got Camel and/or Chameleon? Those are both pretty interesting and nice. Camel is some spices and fruit, a strong Oriental-Lutens-style; Chameleon is wonderful tropical ylang-ylang.
Not yet!
Good to know I haven’t tried all the well-loved ones, yet, though. I love a weird Lutens Oriental, so I’ll look forward to that one, for sure!
Today is Panda.
Love colors of the picture!
I’m in Nicolai Rose Royale. It’s a pretty feminine pink rose fragrance fruited with blackcurrant but I absolutely don’t mind wearing it from time to time.
Isn’t that gorgeous?
Yes it is!
I was thinking that the photo would make a really great color palette for something. So pretty.
You make this sound so lovely! I should try this one.
I love it! You smell marvelous.
I’m wearing Phlur’s Hanami today. Creamy fig and sandalwood with some smooth flowers. It’s comfortable and casual and perfect for a Saturday.
I’m being sent to Dallas for 4 days of training in July – does anyone have recommendations for great food, funky sights, neighborhoods to explore or perfume shopping?
For perfume shopping, the NM and Nordstrom’s at Northpark Mall. Plenty of good eating around there. Neighborhoods—Highland Park, University Park and Lake Highlands. Food trucks near the museums in downtown Dallas. The Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Museum of Art. If you like science, the Perot Museum is fantastic. In 12 years living in Plano on the north side of Dallas, I never went to the Book Repository and Grassy Knoll (re: JFK assassination), but kinda wished I had. George W. Bush has his presidential library if you’re inclined. Highland Park Village shopping center has a Chanel boutique, among a lot of other high end things. There are also a couple of aquariums. Hope that helps.
Sistine, I don’t know if you are trapped in training, but one of the best small museums in the US in located in Ft. Worth.
The Kimball Museum.
If you’re into tea, The Cultured Cup is a delightful place to sample teas and coffees. The proprietors are wonderfully knowledgeable.
Thanks everyone!! I took notes.
Having a birthday for my almost 6 year old later today at Chuck E. Cheese. ? ?
Lord, give me strength. ? will be wearing something with vanilla for extra fortification.
May you endure Chuck E Cheese with patience and grace…. And not come home smelling like the place!
Peace be with you, my friend!! Just stay away from the ball bin….maybe bring a martini in a go-cup?!?
Good luck and have fun!
Any chance you have a pocket pack of disinfectant wipes? Chuck E Cheese cooties scare me. . . *strength!*
My dream as a kid was to go to the Chuck E. Cheese…I finally got to go..one time. I wanted to jump into the bin of plastic balls just like the commercial. However..i start to get in..a horrible smell hits..and I noticed someone had left thick layers of poop all over the plastic balls..childhood dream ruined! I didn’t play with anything else..and didn’t wanna eat after the poo incident..awww. Lol
Check the balls…bring sanitizer:).
Both in and out of context, that last sentence is hilarious.
Agreed. 🙂
This one has no balls 😉 …which is to say this location does not have a ball pit.
Yuck. Just, yuck.
OMG. I’m torn between horror and, well, horror by Omega’s story. But, yes, that last line was very funny.
6 already! Happy Birthday to her!
Happy birthday to your sweet girl and good luck at CEC!
I have the absolute of fondest of memories of Chuckie Cheese and every time I pass one I smile. All three of the mini Marzipans had numerous parties there and they loved it. Enjoy your birthday celebration with your baby. They grow up so fast!!!!
SOTM Replica MM Beach Walk. I am enjoying this pretty, sunny floral sample a lot. Running errands and then heading to my nephew’s college graduation ceremony in a couple of hours. I will wear Chanel Paris-Deauville (thank you ElleBe!). Such an elegant, beautifil, easy to wear scent. Dinner at an Italian restaurant with family. Looking forward to having a great time.
Have a nice weekend NST!
Must try the Chanel Paris-Deauville (and Paris-other) scents. I have a feeling that this could be a winner for me. Hope the time with family and friends is fab–and congrats to your nephew.
Thank you Jepster! I am sure you would enjoy Deauville greatly. I have not tried the other Paris scents yet, but I am sure they are all very nice.
Have a super great time! I’ve been liking Beach Walk more everytime I smell it.
Thank you Lillyjo! ?
Beach Walk is really cheerful!
Perfumelover67, I hope you have a wonderful day & evening, darling M.! ?? I know you will look as lovely as you smell! I’m wearing the Comptoir sud Pacifique Motu Aqua today for World Ocean Day. Thank you again – – I luff it more every time I wear it (the initial smoking rubber happened only because I way over-sprayed that first time). I have another mystery surprise on its way to you next week (yes, I did it again…that Nordie’s in Short Pump was calling me…)??????
Oh yum, that is the perfect scent for today.
Thank you, ElleBe! We are having a nice time! Paris-Deauville is perfect for a simple, but special day, like today. Thanks again! It is gorgeous here!
Glad to hear that you are enjoying Aqua Motu. It is a great choice for Oceans day!
Oh my! You did it again???? It looks like you have a lot to confess to Donatella on this quarter! Enjoy your new purchases! ???
“…confess to Donatella…” Hilarious! Glad you’re having a great time. You DESERVE it!!??♀️???
Enjoy the graduation, you will be a very nicely perfumed aunt.
Thank you. We had a very nice time!
SOTD–Jardin Monsieur Li, soft and lovely, and on me it lingers.
Starting to plan ahead for a major trip in July (London, then transAtlantic on the Queen Mary 2 with stops in Liverpool, Iceland, Halifax and landing in NYC). I will bring a small stash of fragrances–two to three for formal evening wear, and two to three for daytime exploring….let the suggestions begin!!!!!
Oooh. Enjoy – what a great trip! I remember when the QM2 came the first time to NYC. It was a huge deal. Then she accompanied the QE2 out for her last trip from here. Crowds gathered to watch them go. I’ll have to look at dates, so I can maybe see you arrive.
The Queen Mary 2 is the only boat I have ever wanted to cruise with. Please let us know how the trip goes!!
That’s my favorite Hermes fragrance 🙂
Oh wow that’s so cool! My Dad came from Scotland via Southampton on the Queen Mary in the late 1950s. He was supposed to be on another ship to Canada but sailed to New York instead, and made his way north to Halifax where I was born and grew up. Lots of history there being on the east coast and one of Canada’s oldest cities. I hope you have a fantastic trip and enjoy all the ports you visit! ⚓️
Sounds fabulous!!
There is a small Tate Museum in Liverpool at the docks. In my opinion, it’s not a very exciting place (my younger child lives there) but the docks are of historic importance because of who emigrated and immigrated from there. The Tate is a modern art museum (a branch of the famous London Tate).
Last summer it was strangely dry and HOT in both London and Liverpool. I don’t know if that will happen again, but when you think of perfume, you probably should include something light and refreshing just in case. Iceland, on the other hand, will probably be cold and rainy no matter what.
My husband found the best chocolate place in Iceland of all places: OmNom chocolate. Highly recommend that.
I meant, in my opinion, Liverpool is not a very exciting place. The small Tate is lovely.
…my friend and his parents just left on the QM2 on Friday for the transatlantic crossing from NY to Southhampton and then it’s going to a bunch of places.
It sounds like a wonderful trip. Make the most of it!
Aliage with Une Zeste de Rose layered over. I have found Aliage layers well with a lot of scents.
Interesting!
I’m lazing about in Costes this morning, sipping a latte and thinking about paint colors for a couple of rooms in the house. Everything is looking tired and dated, suddenly … perhaps even more so this week since we just had the carpets cleaned. I’ve been taping paint chips up in various places, testing colors in different places at different times of day to narrow down the choices. Having trouble with the bathroom – it has an east-facing skylight so someone before us apparently thought it needed cooling down, color-wise, so it’s painted sea green … which does NOT do wonders for one’s complexion in the mirror. Suggestions?
I prefer light, bright, neutral bathroom colors. I found a lovely, pale cream for my last bathroom (which had been painted darl PURPLE by the previous owners–what were they thinking?!). I think it was Behr “parchment,” but I might be mistaken. . . Our new place has pale grey walls throughout, and we have decided we like it for now. It’s a bit cool, but so close to white it mostly just looks “clean.”
Gah – dark purple is horrible. Almost as bad as the deep blue that our bedroom was painted when we moved in. Almost the first thing I did was repaint it in a pale lemon shade. But now it’s time for a change.
Perhaps Benjamin Moore Coastal Cottage?
Pretty color! Would be gorgeous in a bedroom with ivory linens … which I have. Hmmmm … no! I decided to do pale blue in there, and rearranged a bunch of art and knickknacks to accommodate that … but it’s an awfully pretty pale peach.
I have been getting my house (slowly) repainted in Behr White Sapphire, which is a really pale pale blue, and I love the results! Have you chosen your blue yet?
Well, I think I have – SW Topsail – but I keep being tempted by articles on Houzz and various other places (such as the blog that Old Herbaceous pointed me to below). Something new! Anyway, I need to just get to it and paint at least part of a wall and see if it works as well as the paint chip promises.
Mine is a “latte” color, which seems flattering, or maybe I just need new glasses. something sheer with a hint of peach/pink
Is it the color of milky coffee? I think those are very flattering shades, generally speaking. . .
A pale coffee-cream would be very nice in there, actually – good idea!
Our bathroom has windows that face north and east; we have mostly white beadboard along the walls, with Benjamin Moore’s Wedgwood Grey paint above. It is a very bluey grey and it shifts with the light, which I like. Sometimes it looks quite grey and other times it looks more like a misty blue. There’s a fun article about it here: https://www.thecreativityexchange.com/2017/04/benjamin-moore-wedgewood-gray-color-spotlight.html. But if you want pinker tones, Moore also makes a lovely pale one called Opal.
Our bathroom has white-painted beadboard as well, and what a fun article! The rest of that blog is helpful too – she has lots of great advice and examples that have created a need for more paint chips. 🙂
That IS a nice color, and interesting article too. I really liked it as an exterior color in that one photo!
That is practically the color of the new towels and bath accessories we just bought. Makes me feel like I’m at the beach, somehow!
Good luck with the painting project.
Had a long thai massage session today. L Air du Desert du Maroc even survived the massage oil with tiger balm!!!
The boyfriend baked plum tarte today. Now we just had dinner with a nice pinot blanc on the balcony
Sounds like a lovely day!
Sounds like a relaxing day!
How’s he doing?
We are waiting for the results of the Pet scan, hoping there will not be anything else besides the prostate cancer.
Oh, plum tarte, it sounds like a perfect day.
Commando..
Did put on a Parfums de Cour however it’s called yesterday..in the knock off DNKY apple blast…no idea why I sprayed it on…i don’t like original apple blast and a knock off even worse!
Knock off apple blast made me shudder — I would be commando today too!
I am in Good Girl Gone Bad
Bois Cheri vanilla tea
Turkish food for lunch..
This weekend I am going to the Italian film festival and I hope the movies are good 🙂 Ciao!
What fun, hope the movies are fantastic! (And do tell us which ones we all need to see.)
I love Turkish food!
Inspired by Lucas’s delightful Chemist in the Bottle blog post today, I’m wearing Paris-Deauville and really enjoying it! I have the other two from the original trio waiting in the wings and am looking forward to trying them as well. I enjoyed my year-and-a half(ish) hiatus from wearing perfume and am once again excited to explore some new-to-me scents. Who knows, perhaps I will be inspired to Reek Havoc in days to come? The Sample Sea sirens are singing their song…
I missed you and your reeking havoc posts! Welcome back! ?
Aw, thank you so much for your kind words, Nancyleandros! I sincerely appreciate the warm welcome you extended.
Looking forward to hearing about your exploring.
Thank you.
Woohoo Holly! Reek away!!!
I’m looking forward to it!
I’m in FM Une Rose today and really enjoying it.
Me neeeeds a bottle of the precious.
That was the first really special perfume that I bought in Paris, a thousand years ago, from the one and only Malle boutique….great memory of that trip and an amazing scent.
Yum.
Second yum.
Commando post shower and maybe will stay that way all day. Just got back from a nice long walk around the quickly diminishing lake. Really, it’s a pond, but it’s alreay so low the two docks are resting on mud flats. Doesn’t bode well for summer…
Spotted a beautiful bird that looked sort of like a robin, got a photo, but my Seek app couldn’t identify it. Happen to run across a couple birders, (which I easily identified by Binolculars to Tree Top pose!) who were able to tell me it was a Spotted Towhee. I added it to my “collection” so that’s a score for today!
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and leaves a fantastic sillage for the non-believers. Surely they will re-examine their “anti” lifestyle and be converted to the Kingdom of Scent…✌?
“The non-believers ‘?
Scent of the morning is Francis Kurkdjian Cologne Pour Le Matin .
Scent of the evening/night is Hermes Jour d’Hermes Absolu.
It’s getting hot! Too hot for June, in my opinion. According to the weather forecast, next week the temperature here will rise to 90 F/32 C. 😮
And I’ve just realized that the scents I wore today have ‘morning’ and ‘day’ in their names. Totally unintentional pairing – funny!
Ha, I was wondering if that was on purpose!
Super busy work weekend. I’m wearing Narciso edp White Cube. I normally think of this as a cooler weather scent, but I am smelling glorious in 84 degree temps.
You smell great lillyjo!
Honestly, thanks to your review! It put me over the edge?
Always glad to push someone over the edge, ha…
Wishing you strength for the super busy weekend, I bet you smell lovely. I still haven’t tried Narciso EDP.
Thanks! The White Cube is my favorite of the line. I also really love the For Her L’absolu. That’s the one in the tall burgandy bottle. If you ever see that one, I think you would like it alot. In a weired moment I gave mine away, and miss it.
Thank you Lillyjo, I’ll make sure to test both sometime. As you mentioned we seem to share many perfume loves.
I ordered samples of three Nomenclature scents via Aedes today: the new Fluo_ral, which is a calone exploration; Lumen_esce, an “ultraviolet” experience; and Iri_del, an iris adventure (for my iris-loving pal pl67). I can’t imagine any of these will smell very natural, but may turn out to be the olfactory equivalent of a summer day at the amusement park – – wild rides! ????
Thank you for always thinking of me! ?
????????
Holly, I got the Deauville several weeks ago and am loving the molecules out of it! The Venise is fantastic, too. I’m on the fence about the Biarritz. I like it, but sometimes it reminds me of Chance eau Fraiche (which I already have) w/o the cedar baseline. And Biarritz has absolutely zero longevity, so it’s one to spray on clothing. Can’t wait to smell the fourth in the line-up: Riviera. I fantasize about traveling on the Venise-Simplon Orient Express wearing these Le Eaux frags!
Thank you for sharing your impressions, ElleBe! I’m so glad that they’re offering 50ml bottles of Les Eaux now. Your travel fantasy sounds divine… you’ve encouraged me to hope and dream which is always a good thing, right?
Absolutely, my dear – – Hope IS Life! And thank God for it…?? I nosh daily on a hopeful vision of my post-work life (aka, retirement) & doing all the wanderlusting I was unable to do for 40 years now due to either being flat-broke and/or unable to leave ailing fur-children. Perfume shopping in London & Paris are high on the list! I didn’t know the Le Eaux were being offered in the smaller size, so thanks for the tip! That’ll make it easier to own all four…
I am also pumped about 50 ml format. This close to a venise!
It’s so gorgeous, irisjasmine! A hauntingly pretty oriental. Unmistakable Chanel DNA…classic and makes you feel beautiful and tasteful…
I’m wearing vintage Eau de Caron EdT, which I love so much because it’s citrusy and herbal and floral and powdery all at the same time which sounds like a hot mess but it really works somehow. My friend Denise turned me on to it, saying that it seems like the EdT version of Alpona, which I agree with. And I do get the “alpine” vibe from it. I’m actually almost done with the 30 ml bottle I bought of it, and when I finish it soon it will be the first bottle I’ve finished in who knows how many years. (Don’t worry, I have more.)
You make it sound delightful.
SOTD is Paris – Riviera. I love and Donatella forgive me, own all the Eaux and two of the lotions.
Today was haircut and color for trip to Africa. almost time!
Oh, the Riviera! Do you mind explaining how it differs from the Deauville?
You must be so excited about the trip. And a haircut definitely puts one in the mood for adventures.
I am so excited.
Can you describe Riveria? I was just at a Nordstrom looking for it but they didn’t have it yet.
The Riviera is more orange blossom than any of the other eaux – but in a refreshing not sweet or cloying way. It stays all day.
The other eaux are a tad greener to my nose. This is beautiful for warm weather wearing and I am not a fruity floral gal…only with rare exceptions. I combine all of the eaux and love them. I thought Deauville would be my favorite, but actually they all are.
It just went on sale on the Chanel site on 6/4. The boutiques didn’t have it yet nor does Nordstrom.
Commando today but had a luxurious shower with Chanel No.5 L’Eau shower gel and the ultimate in moisturizing with Diana Vreeland body cream. I went to a graduation party this evening. While we celebrated the graduates, it was also nice catching up with friends!
In other news, I was offended by the suggested tip section on the receipt of a restaurant I ate at yesterday. Prior to this most recent visit, the suggested tip showed 15 / 18 and 20%. I usually gave close to 18 as I tend to round up. Yesterday, the suggested tips became 18 / 20 and 25%! I was all ready to write an amount close to the middle number then realized that would have meant giving over 20%. I was so ticked off that I calculated 15% of the pre-tax amount then added $0.01 for the total tip. I know I shouldn’t “punish” the server but I have a feeling that at this establishment, tips are pooled and even management gets a cut.
Oh, I agree with you, I would have been offended too, I am against these suggested amounts. When I lived in NYC what I would do was double the tax (8%) which made it a 16% tip which was always gratefully received even in this city of excess.
For my recent trip to the Amalfi Coast, the subject of tipping always came up with contention. I tended to be the most generous, my sister wavers but usually goes with my suggestion and the other one always says that her research indicated you do not need to tip. It boiled down to: hotel always tip for the room (I was in my own room except for Rome while my sister roomed with the other one – my sister had to remind her several times that she must leave her portion of the trip….if it were me, I would have left the tip for 2 people and told her that she owes me €x), luggage people €1-2, hotel mini van shuttle driver zero unless he carried my luggage, restaurant – if charged service charge (restaurants in Sorrento ALWAYS charge), zero, all others, a few euros, tour company driver (the ones with whom I rode with the luggage to the next hotel or the one that drove us a long way from Naples to Amalfi and back, €10’when I was by myself, €5 if with other people, excursion guide and driver together €5 and cab driver €5.
What you decided for Italy seems absolutely the right thing to do. I can relay also that in France (I’m half French) service is included but if you have been generally happy with the service, you show it with a tip to your server, 10% is the average amount and in a cafe, if you have only a drink, it’s alright not to leave one but if you had a good service and/or asked for extra like a glass of water with your coffee, then 5% is fine.
This is what we did in Italy, too. Although we went to a restaurant in Rome where the server kept, loudly in English and Italian, telling people that tip wasn’t included, and we left nothing. We felt like he was taking advantage of ignorant tourists.
I should clarify that there was already a service charge on the bill.
I had same experience in a restaurant yesterday. 18, 20, 25% as suggested, and all you needed to do was check the box.
I find it irritating in cabs now in NYC that they have 20% as the minimum check box. Now that they’ve added extra fees (flag drop is basically $6 before you even move) it’s made tips go up too.
Yesterday I was again at the library volunteering, and I was in Emporio Armani Diamonds Violet because it seemed an inoffensive choice (I got a small 30ml bottle which I will have to confess to Donatella).
Once I came home I promptly applied Aramis Tuscany Per Donna, one of my big perfumes for home, these two perfumes couldn’t have been more different, that’s the joy of perfume.
I am now teaching French at the library and have to revisit French grammar, I am enjoying this new experience.
Wow. Which age group(s) are you teaching?
Adults, all have some very basic French, it’s a new experience for me teaching.
I learned French in a mostly illiterate country (Madagascar), which means I am totally useless when it comes to spelling or grammar! Luck to you in getting up to speed!
Actually, I’ve been revisiting my French with language CDs in my car, and it’s been fun (read: challenging) to discover how “pidgin” my French really is! I make the same mistakes in word order and usage over and over again. . .
Thank you, Marjorie Rose, I have to brush up in grammar but it’s actually useful and fun.
CDs are an excellent way to learn the language, don’t get discouraged all of a sudden you will start making progress, speaking and understanding is more important than perfectly grammatical written French.
I’m glad it is fun for you! I would think teaching and sharing it could be very rewarding, too.
I can still watch a French movie, or overhear a conversation, and *mostly* know what folks are saying. I miss the nuances, but I find it reassuring that I haven’t lost it all!
I sprayed on some Guerlain Terracotta this morning. Was commando yesterday when we went grocery shopping and picking out stain
for the deck; so I needed something cheerful today to match the warming temperatures.
The sun is back out today after a few days rain and cloud; some yardwork is now in order as the weeds seem to be multiplying. And a couple of houseplants are demanding some attention from me. I also have to make an appetizer for snack day at work tomorrow. At least I know what I’m making, so that’s half the battle.
Just checked out the Chanel website (in Canada) for the Eaux choices; all that is available are the 125 ml sizes. Tell me I don’t need them!
Oh, Gail…I wish I could tell you that you don’t need them, but I am positively smitten by this Le Eaux series. After so many disappointing Le Exclusifs (I got the coffret set of “all” the Le Exclusifs in EDP strength & so many were…well, weak), I was worried about more investment in Chanel (my fav house, with Hermes a close second). I’m on the fence about Biarritz & haven’t yet smelled Riviera, but Deauville & Venise have restored my faith. And the bottle is huge for the price! I have an atomizer in my purse for mid-day touch-ups (best part of my workday…)
Wearing the lovely Captured by Candlelight today (thanks, FearsMice!). It is supposed to be reminiscent of an English Christmas, with a lot of notes that evoke a holiday pudding. I don’t get as much of a gourmand vibe as all that, perhaps because I am a person who often enjoys a straight up, eat-one’s-arm-off kind of scent. CbC is lovely and warm, definitely sweet-ish, with vanilla, honey and spices, but it also has short, quick glimmers of woods and a slightly rough and scratchy base. Romantic, and aptly named.
So, the office clean-up has been delayed by the necessity of the garage clean-up, which has begun and is going well. A fair portion of the office items are going to need to be stored in a long-term fashion, and I’d like that storage to not be in the office. That leaves the garage, which is also (surprise!) in desperate need of clearing. Thus, a new order of priorities. The hardest part – starting – is done, and today I’ll be working on the follow through. Send some ruthless “let it go” energy my way, if you please.
Yay for garage clean up! I’m sure the momentum and satisfaction of that project will propel you back into the office soon enough. ?
So happy that it has Captured another fan! 🙂
I often find that my clean-up/re-org projects are dependent upon cleaning up and re-organizing some other space first – the cycle is vicious. But it sounds like you have this one in hand — may the power and mojo stay with you!
Sotd – Replica Under the Lemon Tree.
Nice, lemony summer no brainer selection. It’s reminding me of something that I like more, but I can’t place it. ?? So my take – not very original. Enjoy the day NST!
There are so many good lemony summer no brainers already! I am in one today — Carthusia Mediterraneo.
And you smell fantastic!!
SOTD is Zoologist Panda.
In these first few minutes, it is reminding me of the last in the Chandler Burr “untitled” series, which turned out to be a nicely made, but still very safe, peony + hay mall-style fruity floral. I am getting no hay, but fruit (apple), green tea and peonies, or something like them.
Weird, that does not sound like a panda to me!
Looking at the list of notes, looks like I’m right about the apple and tea. . . not sure what’s reading as “peony” to me, but there’s several floral notes listed (lily, magnolia, jasmine. . . ).
How do you experience it?
I started the day in Dame Perfumery’s Monsoon to match the bleeping weather. I got so wet walking the dog that I didn’t need to shower, so post storm walk I switched to Passage D’Enfer.
Stay safe and smelling great!
I like the texture of my hair after it’s been rained upon and then dries of its own accord. . .
If I let my hair dry on it’s own without pinning it up, it grows 3 feet wide!
LOL!
Yeah, mine is wavy and behaves itself, for the most part.
Please help me identify an icky-to-me note: it’s in the JHAG scents Another Oud, Mad Madame, Mmmm… and Moscow Mule. Something in all of these is really chemically.
I didn’t note it in either Lady Vengeance or Sunny Side Up. Haven’t skin tested Vanilla Vibes, yet. Their single-molecule cetalox “perfume” (Not A Perfume) is totally inoffensive (and boring) to me.
Have concluded this house is not for me. Would like to figure out this note, though. Not sure if it’s something I outright hate, or just hate when used too much. Reading the fragrantica notes, I don’t see a commonality, so perhaps it’s not truly a common note… dunno.
Thoughts?
I think it’s ambroxan. I have and love Mad Madame and it doesn’t bother me in that one. Moscow Mule, and SunnySide Up, I notice it more. I don’t know why, though. I also can’t wear Another Oud, but I really like Midnight Oud.
Hmmm, I was discounting that because the Cetalox didn’t bother me, and my cursory googling indicated Cetalox = Ambroxan, but deeper digging shows they are different molecules and some blog posts (elsewhere) suggest they smell different. So… Ambroxan becomes a suspect again.
Thanks!
Whoa. Just looked at the Ambroxan notes page on Fragrantica, and many many many of my most hated sniffs are on there.
Elie Saab L’Eau Couture this morning. Something about this scent makes me feel like I just showered and am wearing a clean, crisp cotton dress. Even when I’m not….
Finally spritzed a bit of a sample of The Different Company Bergamote this morning and decided it wasn’t for me. It went on my post for the freebiemeet.
I went to the ballet today (The Merry Widow, sumptuous, funny, and romantic) and wore some very lightly sprayed Queen of the Night by Grandiflora. We had a heat warning today with heat indexes of 105-108 and it really was dreadful.
Commando..again. But unfortunately for hit with a La Vie est Belle trail earlier. Hopefully it didn’t leave any on me. lol. Internet probs all day…maybe it smelled the La Vie..and froze. Lol
