Hump Day already, and International Guide Dogs Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm smelling pretty in Jour d'Hermès, since ElisaP, SheriG and Foxbins reminded me.
Reminder: on 4/26 we're doing edition 4 of the picture challenge, part 1. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Georgia O'Keeffe's My Shanty, from 1922. You can read more about the painting here and here. There is a short bit on her time at Lake George here. (This is part 1 because we are going to do another O'Keeffe later in the year.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermès Paddock Selle Charm ("Hermes saddle charm in Swift calfskin, palladium plated hardware") is a mere $780.
I’m in Nuit de Tubereuse, which I didn’t think I’d enjoy, since I’m not a big fan of tuberose. But the pink pepper totally seems to mitigate the too sweet fragrance that bothers me in most tuberose forward scents. I get the tuberose, but with a nice spicy edge.
That is a good tuberose for people who aren’t sure about tuberose 🙂
You smell fantastic. I adore tuberose. 😀
Hi everyone, and happy Hump day! My SOTD is Niki de st Phalle extrait. One of my favorite green/mossy perfumes. 🙂
Perfection!
Thanks! I’ve always loved that twisted snake bottle, her art work is so quirky and fun! Someday, I hope to visit Paris and see her art in person.
I have the EDT and adore it. I will have to haunt eBay to see if I can get the extrait. You smell marvelous!
$780 for a charm?? I’ve never seen that at Walmart! I’ll try Target next time I’m in….. 🙂
Wearing Nomenclature orb_ital today, and I do believe I’m a bit anosmic to it. I get a bit of frankincense and the slightest bit of the Iso-E super, but it’s very very very faint to my olfactory computer system…..
Lol. It’s not at my target, let me know if they have it at yours!??
lol! $780 would buy quite a lot of PERFUME! 🙂
That was one of my first thoughts too! Great minds think alike.?
They have a gajillion different charms now, and each one comes in a gajillion colors. So somebody is buying them, but it sure isn’t me either!
Because I MUST PROCRASTINATE . . . I got curious about leather charm bracelets at Walmart. Here’s a beauty for $6.99!
https://www.walmart.com/ip/7-0-quot-Genuine-Leather-Black-Bracelet-fits-European-Charms-Compatible/675637741?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=526&adid=22222222227147242987&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=256544295795&wl4=pla-421833223609&wl5=9032067&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=114226933&wl11=online&wl12=675637741&wl13=&veh=sem
Sexy Sparkles!
LOL!
ha! i love Target, sometimes I walk in and feel fancy and tell myself I’m shopping at “Tahr-jaaay” ooh-la-la!
Then you totally understand when it’s time to go to “The Vol-Mart” too! 🙂
I just checked the price of a new English saddle by Hermes. Wow. I knew they were pricey, but….
Before I read what the above picture was, I thought it was a fancy dog leash for guide dogs, lol. I also made sure it wasn’t a tea pot, so I could be sure stupid Tuesday was gone.
Anyway… I’m wearing Orange Sanguine over BBW Sun body cream. I smell very relaxed and a little peppy. I call this “smell like it till you make it” therapy???
Nice! ?
Thanks!
I have no doubt you are smelling great! Have a good one!?
Thank you!
I like your strategy and that all does sound very peppy ?
In a million years, I wouldn’t be called peppy , but this works!
Smelling great! I was tempted by the recent BBW sale to get a few goodies but changed my mind at the last minute.
I’m really liking this Sun lotion, it’s sunny without being coconutty.
Oh, that’s good to know. I like coconut, but too much is a bit nauseating to my nose.
“I also made sure it wasn’t a tea pot”!! 🙂 🙂 😛
Well… you just can’t be to sure about these things, lol?
I should have found a Hermes dog leash to mark the day, you’re right! And they do make them….lookie, here’s a used one at the bargain mark down price of $1925
https://www.1stdibs.com/fashion/ephemera/other/hermes-cognac-brown-leather-silver-lock-dog-pet-animal-leash-box/id-v_5091931/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvtixuYfp4QIVGYGzCh3CxAZDEAQYAiABEgJGjPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
If I had the extra cash, I’d rather donate to a shelter. That said, it’s a great looking leash.
People are nuts for the things they will buy!
At that price, it should at least include a dog!
?
That’s more than I paid for my purebred dog!
Seriously. Maybe the charm should include at least a pony, for that matter.
Hermes does “My Little Pony”?
Orange Sanguine is very cheerful. I hope it made your day better. ?
??? I thought the same thing re: checking to make sure it was not a teapot!
I’m wearing Vol de Nuit edt, a freebie from a recent swap, which smells like the more leathery part of my vtg Shalimar edc with less powder. Niiice.
One of my top five fragrances – you smell WONDERFUL.
Vol de Nuit = One of the world’s PERFECT scents!
Lovely!
you smell goooood
+1!!! VdN etd is fantastic.
+another 1!
❤️Vol de Nuit❤️
That sounds lovely and worth checking out. I love Shalimar in the EDC version too. The only Shalimar I can wear is vintage. The modern version just seems like a hot mess on my skin, particularly the opening. My secret use for modern Shalimar is to spray it on the paper tester strips and then hide these strips in books I am reading. It becomes a radiantly beautiful bookmark after about 24 hours……
You smell absolutely great! Nice swap material.
SOTD is Passage d’Enfer, which is leading me into the mystery realms.
Bon voyage!
Robin, you smell fantastic, of course! I chose AdP Iris Nobile EDT today because the sun is shining … and I have a dental cleaning appointment around noonish and want to smell nice but not overwhelming for the nice lady.
Why thank you ma’am! And of course so do you.
You smell super good.
Seven hundred and eighty actual dollars?!!?
I’m in Shalimar Light thanks to a fabulous NSTer. I love the color of this juice.
I’m off today and tomorrow and the weather is beautiful! I’ve got a whole lotta nothin’ on my agenda for the day, which is just what I need after a very busy last three weeks.
I’m your cousin today in Shalimar Parfum Initial 🙂
Ooh, nice!
Your whole lotta nothin has me humming whole lotta shakin, lol
Enjoy your time off!
Thanks lillyjo! Earworm!??
Good, it worked ?
I picked Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” after reading ‘whole lotta nothing’. I have a different earworm.
Unscheduled free time is the most luxurious thing in this day and age!
Agreed!
You smell soooooo good!
Ha- I knew you would approve!?Thank you!!
Today I’m wearing Tiziana Terenzi’s Maremma.
The $780 charm not look very “charming” to me.
You smell lovely, Robin! The original Jour was one of my earlier rabbit hole loves and the Absolu is my favorite version that I’ve smelled. and probably my favorite Hermes.
Lashings of California Reverie for me for another beautiful day.
Yeah, I would’ve bought the Absolu if I hadn’t already bought the regular!
Enjoy your beautiful day!
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. I have been craving carnation fragrances lately.
Oh I do really like that one!
Waft some over here, please!
I’ve been craving carnation too. You smell wonderful!
Thanks ! Sending some wafts right over 🙂
Sounds lovely.
Robin, I am pretty sure you posted that Hermès Paddock Selle Charm to make us all feel a little smug. Hilarious!
Anyhooo… I just drained the last of my sample of Rose Noir–I was in the mood for rose. I will probably refresh later today with A la rose, or Lumiere Noir–equally un-noir roses IMHO.
Totally random update: About a year ago (really??) I attended a perfume class taught by Bruno Fazzolari. It was just one afternoon. We learned a lot about his methodology, and then painstakingly recreated a “simple” cologne recipe that he gave us (30 drops of this, 70 drops of that, 3 drops of each of those . . . sort of thing). It was a citrus clove sort of scent. In the end we were asked to add anything else we wanted to the mix, and I chose to amp up the lavender (3 more drops 😉 ). For a while the result was pretty unusable to my nose. Sharp, and just meh. Now that its sat around for months, the clove has calmed down a bit, and it smells like a linen cabinet air freshener–so that is what I am using it for—citrus, lavender and clove scented sheets (there were probably a dozen more eo’s we included, but I am not remembering what they were). I had titled the fragrance ‘Weekend’, which still seems fitting.
Ooooooooh!! I would so love to take a class like that!
I remember when you went to that, it really doesn’t seem like a whole year already! Glad you are getting use out of your creation.
It does not make me feel smug really, or at least, not for more than a minute or two, because I do buy the perfumes, and I’m not sure that’s all that much more defensible even though they are much less $
But it’s all relative and for many people even the perfumes are out of reach and surely seem like a stupid waste of money.
That is so cool that your perfume is now aged to perfection!
But Robin, there are folks who blog about these things–endlessly discussing the highs and lows of purse accessories, comparing experiences, sharing tips, and patting each other on the back for their efforts. Completely beyond my comprehension. 😉 😉 😉
Now back to the non-existent sillage of Rose Noir. . . .
LOL — those people are obviously deranged.
But rich deranged ?. The Coach purse charms are way more affordable.
Nice on your aged linen spray! I went to a similar kind of class probably 5+ years ago now and made a rose-patchouli thing which the patchouli took over. So, not linen spray for me, lol. But I sniffed recently and it has mellowed a bit with age and it’s not 1/2 bad! I still don’t want to wear it, though. My 1st attempted experiment had a clove overdose. Cloves are potent!!
CDG EDP 1994
My first niche purchase and long time love, you smell great!
Omnia for my Monday.
Hope the Omnia helps you through “Monday”!
Oh, I need to find that one and wear it before it gets any warmer. You smell wonderful!
That is an adorable little saddle. I paid less for my real saddles that you can actually put on a horse.
Coincidentally, am in Hermes today; 24 Faubourg.
I love that one. You smell wonderful.
Thank you!
I’d much rather have a saddle on a horse (and the horse) than that little doodad. ?
A $780 charm! Good heavens, seldom is a product so clearly not targeted anywhere near me. At least their $1000 scarves are something I want.
No perfume yet; at my third doctor’s appointment in two days (I’m fine; it’s just this and that, all culminating at the same time), so I’m keeping things scentless for now. Just signing in to say that I got Australian Gold on the recommendation of some NSTers. I accidentally got the body sunscreen instead of the face, and HOLY WHITECAST! How do I get this stuff off, y’all?? It’s sticking to my skin through multiple showers!!
Between doctors’ appointments and my a cappella group’s end-of-year show this Saturday, this has been quite a busy week. Hope you all are well!
I hope your doctors appointments go well! Have you found a good primary care doc?
Thanks! Well, I haven’t had my first appointment with my PCP, but at least I have one assigned now! My first appointment with her should be in late May 🙂 Woohoo annual checkups!
If you want to get rid of sunscreen, you want to do a double cleanse. I tend to use a cleansing oil for my first and a gentle foaming cleaner for my second.
https://boisdejasmin.com/2017/01/my-skincare-routine-layering-technique.html
If you skip to evening you get a very nice description of how this works.
Wow! That’s…quite a skincare routine! (Thanks for the tip to skip to evening.) I see, that sounds valuable, and sounds like my skincare routine is about to get to 150 % of its current length (right now, I just wash with a foaming cleanser + moisturize). Thanks for the link!
She is quite the skincare nerd, and I don’t mean that disrespectfully. I actually love reading all the details about different aspects of her routines. She also has a post on how she adapts this process when travelling.
The main thing is that cleansing oils are just so nice to get rid of sunscreen without bothering or irritating your skin. I even have a small bottle of it in my kitchen that I use whenever my hands get particularly dirty or when my hands are dry. The French pharmacy brands offer some really nice options, but I don’t know what would be available to you in the US.
As a consummate nerd myself (just not of skincare), I’d never expect that appellation to be disrespectful!
The Body Shop has a nice cleansing oil (for the face). You can probably also use make-up remover wipes.
Hope your appointments and concert go well.
Thanks, KellyC!
Cleansing oil first! That is the most gentle method for face. Or you could use a scrub or exfoliating clothe. Sorry, thought I mentioned its tenaciousness. ??
And try the tinted version for faces. ?
Haha, you DID say that it was tenacious! I just wasn’t sufficiently calibrated to understand how tenacious it really was 🙂
I’ve used micellar water to remove persistent sunscreen from my arms and legs before taking a shower.
Ha! We were thinking along the same lines; I was just slower than you (as usual…).
Great minds think alike!
Koyel, I use mineral sunscreens too, and agree with austenfan and Laura on using cleansing oil to help get rid of zinc-based sunscreens. However, if you can’t quickly find a cleansing oil that you like, you might try a bi-phase micellar water (meant to remove waterproof makeup) instead for the first step of the cleansing routine. Bi-phase micellar waters are easily found in drugstores (Garnier is inexpensive and works pretty well) and retailers like Target, etc.
RE your end-of-year show: break a leg, girl! 😀
Good luck with your concert! Also, seconding the cleansing oil, followed by a regular cleanser. I work outside and wear heavy duty zinc oxide sunscreen, and the double cleanse does the trick.
Trying SL Cedre today from a sample. I think I might be more impressed with it if I could spray it, really can’t even smell it unless I press my wrist to my nose. Also possible that it’s just gone off, the juice is much darker than the picures, and I got it from another NSTer’s reject pile. It’s nice when I can smell it though. Oh well!
I much prefer spraying to dabbing.
Agreed, though dabbing has its place – trying new things on work days without gassing out the coworkers, for example. 😀
Update, I reapplied in the afternoon and it seems much stronger for some reason. Also, not good at all, pretty confident now that it’s turned, sadly.
Aww, disappointing!
Wearing Mohur Extrait today. Just because I could! 🙂
Beautiful!
You smell fantastic!
Perfect reason! You smell fab!
My hand wanted White by Puredistance today so that is what I am wearing.
I like that one but good grief it’s expensive!
Not that I’m judging if you have a bottle haha! I wish I could spend that on perfume!
It was a bday present. When I buy, it’s usually on sale or a discounter. ?
And it’s only the travel spray…
That’s a great bday present! I love getting perfume I don’t have to buy myself haha!
I wish more houses/brands did travel sprays!
I am trying Hemlock & somethingsomething(i forgot) by Jo Malone. But its not working for me. Too powdery, too sweet.
Went to the botanical gardens today! The wisteria there was gorgeous and smelly (in a good way) and of course loads of other stuff has started to bloom.
And I bought new running shoes!
They are still ugly but not hideous like my former pair (if you want to know what they look like, google Asics cumulus 20 grand shark)
same and Hemlock & [?]. I want to smell those wisterias!
I couldn’t resist looking it up and it’s called Hemlock and Bergamot.
Thank you!
Silly, but I always forget those Jo Malone names, but somehow I will never forget ‘Hermann à mes côtés me parissait une ombre’ (and i haven’t even tried it hahhaha) ?
But the ELdO title is great and the Jo Malones are just repetitive.
The Hermann one is one of my favourites of theirs, it’s so poetic (haven’t tried the fragrance either)
Also love Malle’s En Passant, Angéliques sous la pluie and Le parfum de Thérèse.
Wearing just a tiny spritz of Baccarat Rouge 540 extrait, since it’s a sunny spring morning and not an evening at the Casino Royale. The little travel size is just the right amount as it is shaping up to be quite potent.
I love that one sooooo much. You smell amazing.
Another leather today in Cuir Mauresque. I love this one and wish I’d sprayed one more spray! It dries so amazing.
oh you smell wonderful. that’s the one funky leather i wish i had.
It’s so funky! Especially when it’s first sprayed but I adore it and cannot stop sniffing myself now haha!
I love CM but I have to dab it or it overwhelms me. You smell great!
Is this is SL Cuir Mauresque?
Yes!
I need to retry my sample of it then. I don’t remember it being funky. But I have suspicions that my “funk-o-meter” might be a little out of whack.
It’s funny because a lot of reviews online people say it’s too funky for them but I don’t know, like you, I guess my “funk-o- meter” is off lol! I can see how the initial blast could be a bit much to some (though I love it) but I enjoy it from start to finish!
I recently got a sample of this. It smells great !
I’m am ever on the lookout for this one. Thinking of foregoing Alaska to fly to Paris to get a bottle. It’s amazing and you smell outstanding!
Do you have any? Want a few ml?
Hump day with a gazillion meetings is under way. I am glad i reached for Chanel no 19 Parfum this morning, it’s providing much needed backbone.
You smell amazing. Good luck with your meetings!
You smelled so good!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
Spring!
In other news — I had previously ordered an item through Amazon that was not part of the Amazon Prime program so I sucked it up and paid the $3.25 shipping and handling which was actually reasonable. I decided to order 4 more of the same small item and was flabbergasted that the shipping was $13! I emailed the seller to ask for a discount for combined shipping and was told no, there is no discount. How stupid! So what’s a girl to do? I purchased them singly, to the point where the Amazon bot thought I made a mistake by ordering the same thing 4 times. Anyway, If I get 4 separate packages – great. If the seller decided to combine shipping and I don’t see a credit, I will dispute the charge with Amazon since I used a gift card AND I will leave negative feedback. How ridiculous!
I’ve run into that as well. The Amazon shipping cost is per item.
fraternal twin 😀 that shipping is annoying!
Yeah, I’ve seen that shipping charge game too – I assumed it was their way of appearing to be cheaper than other vendors, when the shipping charge is just increasing their profit margin.
Sound like dealing with Amazon requires a dedicated bottle of No, 19. How irritating!
Whoops misplaced comma. ?
FM Superstitious! Three sprays=guaranteed to last ALL day ?
Smelling fantastic! I bet it lasts till morning!
Thank you! I bet it will too, ha.
Waft this way, please!
I’ll be happy to!
Chiming in a little late today – my Wednesday is off to a slow start. Made the mistake of checking into email first thing…….I should know better by now.
Wearing Cire Trudon Bruma. What I like about it is that it’s just such a weird smell (in a good way). It doesn’t smell like perfume to me, it smells more like a fragranced place. I’m not explaining this well. It doesn’t smell like it is constructed to be a pleasing mix of floral and other notes to wear on one’s body. It definitely has the vibe of one of their candles (which I love, but do not buy regularly, because price).
Happy Hump Day, all.
I like Bruma too, and still wishing I would find that coffret on markdown somewhere! Hope CT will do more fragrances.
I’m wearing L’Artisan Fleur de Narcisse, a special perfume in my collection. It’s from 2006 and part of the harvest series. I still love it as much as I did then. I rarely wear it and still have about 45ml left. Anyway, it’s tobacco, leather, hay, and narcissus. Its smell matches the tone and setting of the painting.
That sounds wonderful ! Both the scent and matching it to the painting.
Oh that does sound like a great match for the painting!
Still commando, but just wanted to say that I adore that little leather Hermès gadget. I will never buy it, but it is very cute.
I agree that it is cute, and it comes in great colors.
I’m in Atelier Pacific Lime today, which faded out pretty quickly. Layered on Isola Rosa, a very citrusy rose from Orris Perfumery in LA. I was there in early March, which seems like a lifetime ago. ?
I’ve checked out the Orris website before… I’m starting to get intrigued by “natural” perfumes. Did you sniff, or get anything good when you were there?!
I bought several samples, and received some free with the Isola Rosa bottle purchase.
I sniffed almost everything! I got there about an hour before they closed, and the young lady SA was very kind and patient with me. Each separate line has a different personality, and there was at least one fragrance in each line that caught my attention. I was struggling with a stuffy nose that day, but felt good (still do) about my purchase.
I can send you a sample of the Isola Rosa if you’d like! I’m at nlmcook @ sbcglobal dawt net. ?
Oh that sounds like such fun! I dream of fancy perfume shops. Sigh.
You are sweet to offer, but I’m good for now. I see their website sells samples too.?
Wearing Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions today because someone was wearing Wazamba yesterday and SE reminds me of Wazamba, a bit. Leather and a bit of apple that goes in an incense direction.
You make this sound really good.
Trying out L’Artisan Bana Banana today. It has decent longevity, but not something I need. I’m not sure I love the base.
I thought the same thing about the base.
Oh, someone say more, I am so curious about that one! Is it very banana-y?
It’s Anzac Day here, which commemorates the Gallipoli campaign in World War I. Anzac stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps, large numbers of whom died at Gallipoli. I visited Gallipoli when I was in Turkey many years ago, commemorations have become quite big there in recent years.
I’m starting the day in Annick Goutal’s Chèvrefeuille, which reminds of spring. I’m looking forward to that already, as it’s very definitely autumn here now.
Definitely a solemn occasion for you all.
The scale of the loss of life at Gallipoli is sobering… Hope the beautiful Chèvrefeuille proved to be an uplifting choice.
Two steps forward, one step back. Spooky kitty had a bad day on Monday… no appetite, and a bit of vomiting. It was a reminder that her situation is a long term thing, with no easy resolution. She was much better yesterday and today, though. ?
In other news, the pollen tsunami has come to my area. Everyone’s car now has that greenish-yellow haze all over it. Time to break out the eyedrops.
SOTD = Silences, from the sample stash. It is happily coexisting with the Wrappings lotion I received from Hajusuuri applied on my shins. The lotion is incredibly scented, and could probably be worn by itself.
Poor sweet Spooky…. Every good day is doubly precious.
No way to go wrong with either Silences or Wrappings; together, they must be magic!
Thanks FearsMice! I’ve been very happy with the little green wafts of scent I’ve been getting all day.
Spooky is fortunate to have you. Hoping for continued better days.
I’m hoping that the current food & medicine she is on will do the trick. Fingers crossed!
Awww. Sorry that Spooky had a rough day.
You had 2 great frags on today; I drained my sample of Silences in 1 go. Wrappings is so good! Nice combo.
MH L’Air de Rien. Felt like something slightly skanky but mostly just warm skin smell, which is what this is to me.
A stinky day at the humane society as a bunny peed on me and there were four poop cleanups in a row. The last kitty I cared for had fleas so I came home and took a shower just in case. Now I’m wearing D600 and thinking about what to have for dinner.
That sounds like a messy day in addition to being a stinky one! I hope you had a nice dinner to make up for all that “Ewwwwww!”
Nothing to compare here with the malodorous, disgusting, or scary (!) Commuter Woes of folks like H., but this evening I actually abandoned my car in a retail parking lot and walked home. Around 4 pm today, a cement truck overturned on one of the area’s major arteries, causing major backups on all of the alternative routes. I had hoped to leave work early at 5 pm, but stayed on until 6:30; even then traffic was still in a major snarl. I finally managed to get within about a mile of my house, parked the car, and walked on home. Funny thing is, I would normally have had tennis shoes and socks to wear either stashed at the office or in the gym bag in my car –but had recently removed both, sigh… Figured the shoes I wore for work were going to make blisters, so I shucked em and went bare-footed part of the way home. Glad it was warm enough for that today! I’m about to walk back over the parking lot to retrieve my car; hope the streets have cleared out! by now!
Wanted to put on my Iris 39 oil but I must have put it back in the fridge. So i grabbed my sample of Parfum Satori Iris Homme from my stash. Thunk!
I was expecting a wallop but it’s the total opposite. Money saved as I have more toothy, rooty irises in the arsenal.
Curious about the Satori. Is there something you would compare it to?
I’d say it’s like a super light version of Orris Tattoo mixed with a bit of L’Atessa. It didn’t last terribly long on me, maybe 2 hours.
Estée Lauder Beautiful, new and vtg. Tomorrow I have planned Cartier La Panthere, the SA at Nordstrom gave me so many samples and travel sprays. So nice. ?
SotD = Terracotta Le Parfum
So late again. Gosh, it’s silly how life gets in the way of perfume.
Trying to catch up on life…
Tried Keiko Mecheri A Fleur de Peau late at night. It was too strong for me right then. I wiped it off with a witch hazel wipe and put on Imogen Rose. This is likely also strong, but in a comforting way for me. Nothing Thursday, perhaps a little experimenting with samples on Friday.
I think you can get a fairly good actual saddle for the price of that charm. Possibly someone could buy a horse for that price. Probably not a good horse, but some sort of equine specimen. I’ve never bought a horse myself, so I’m guessing on that. Or you could get thousands of books or hundreds of garden flowers. (My priorities show up.)
