Tuesday, World Book Day, St George's Day, UN English Language Day and Shakespeare Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: same as yesterday, no real perfume, but a bit of creamsicle from Weleda Sea Buckthorn Body Lotion.
Reminder: on 4/26 we're doing edition 4 of the picture challenge, part 1. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Georgia O'Keeffe's My Shanty, from 1922. You can read more about the painting here and here. There is a short bit on her time at Lake George here. (This is part 1 because we are going to do another O'Keeffe later in the year.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster and Stephen Fry as Jeeves, from the early 1990s ITV series Jeeves and Wooster, which was adapted from the books by P.G. Wodehouse.
SOTD; Journey woman, Definitely a sunny yellow colour, and one of my most cheerful perfumes.
Still not sure which perfume would evoke the atmosphere of the painting, maybe a moody iris?.. Looking forward to that one!
Moody iris is a good call…
SOTD Chanel no 5 l’Eau.
To me the atmosphere in that painting is palpable, charged, like it’s going to start raining soon after a period of dryness. I will probably wear Alaia on Friday, because its opening notes come close ot petrichor.
I haven’t tried Alaia, but that sounds perfect. ( and I’m putting it on my ‘to sniff’ list.)
Definitely looks like a storm is coming.
You smell gooooood!
You smelled great today.
Happy Tuesday, all. SJP Covet for a cool and cloudy Tuesday morning. Still thinking about what I might wear on Friday.
If you live in or near Seattle, let me know if you would be interested in a fragrance get-together in May or June via my screen name above. I would be happy to organize this. (I posted this on Saturday, but wanted to repost.)
Smelling lemony-chocolate delicious!
?
I wanted to wear Tauer Incense Extreme today but couldn’t find the bottle, so I’m in PdE Wazamba.
You small great!!
One of my favorite things about Wazamba is that when you wear it you get to say Wazamba 🙂 you smell great!
We’re having a little last-burst-of-winter kind of weather today (brrr!), so I chose Tabac Blond for warmth. I don’t wear this often because I’m down to mere molecules in my decants (extrait and vintage EDT), and will have to hunt down some kind of replacement when they’re gone.
Sorry! We are having a happy little burst of summer, which is making me very happy.
It’s been chilly here since yesterday as well. Hoping for warmer weather for both of us soon!
I’m wearing La Chasse aux Papillons.
YUM!
So pretty!
You smell great!
Very spring-y!
SOTD: Diptyque Tempo. 3rd test. Nope, my opinion is still lukewarm. It smells okay at the beginning, but dries down to a cloud of iso-e-super with little interest…
Too bad it doesn’t suit you; hope you’ll find some other patch that you do like.
SOTD = 8 sprays (at least) of Chanel 1957.
Might get to TJs today with the neighbor.
Twins! I have to apply this one with a heavy hand too.
Hey, twin! I’m going to need to compare 1957 with Eau Premiere, and look for the vanilla in the drydown. Kinda got distracted today. ?
Wow, that’s getting into Hajusuuri territory with the spraying!
It’s a very pretty fragrance. Great for the spring weather we’re having.
Woo hoo! This is my dosage as well for it to last all day!
Isn’t it nice? Thank you again for giving us the chance to try it. ?
Tigers nest again. Got compliments yesterday!
As you should!
You smell terrific. Apsara, have you ever tried Etro Messe de Minuit? To my nose, there are a lot of similarities between that and Tiger’s Nest.
Alas no LisaD. I only have Etro Shal Nur.
Another lovely incense!
Hurray for perfume compliments!
Hi all, it’s supposed to be very warm today in San Francisco, so I’m wearing Bandit extrait by Robert Piguet. The galbanum, oakmoss and leather should bloom nicely in the heat. 🙂
Nice!
I’ve never tried that one but I bet you smelled great!
B. Balenciaga, which I planned to wear next week. I am not getting the LOTL note though. For me, it’s a pretty green violet. Very springy.
I think I have a sample of that somewhere that needs sniffing. Should go dig it out!
Do it – now is just the right season to try it. 🙂
And I am curious whether you would consider it a lily of the valley scent.
If I can find out where I put it, I will do so. Some of my samples show up in the strangest places…
Eau de Givenchy today.
Pretty!
Such a good choice, I will line up my bottle for summer soon.
Good morning Y’all!
Wearing Philosophy Summer Grace. Not sure it’s really “perfume”????? I smell like I got out of the shower a few hours ago! LOL Fresh and clean, but only if you put your nose directly on my arm. Not a fan much, but this might be just the ticket this summer when it’s 100 degrees and it’s too hot and sticky for anything else! 🙂
100 degrees sounds unbearable. Yuck! Philosophy is good for when I’m in a meeting and want something discreet, but it’s very reserved. Not my usual m.o…
I’m with you on the Grace scents. I don’t know Summer Grace but Pure Grace is probably the cleanest scent I know. Still it has a place in a perfume wardrobe, as you put it in the height of summer.
One of my best friends is perpetually in a cloud of Pure Grace. Hair products, lotion, the perfume. It’s not my thing but she really knows how to layer so she always smells so fresh and it works for her. Subtle and not overpowering.
I’ll have to sniff this one. I can see having one of those little 15ml bottles in my purse come August in Houston. ?
Still commando with a headcold that won’t go away, so my sense of smell is on vacation.
I love your choice of picture today, Robin. I’m a great fan of both Fry and Laurie and loved their work together in this series as well as in Blackadder. Remember the Duke of Wellington?
It is really hard to go from Bertie Wooster to “House” – never got into that show because I was too Wooster nostalgic!
Not a massive House fan either. Perhaps because it’s a medical show and I’m not too keen on those.
Hugh Laurie is a great actor though but I do love him best when he is playing an idiot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkYb3z8Ecq4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S10_xvR_8Y
will definitely watch that! I also really loved reading the Jeeves series.
And House the character was so mean!
Actually that is one aspect of the show that I did enjoy, his cynicism.
Me too. Also loved how they frequently addressed ethical issues.
I need to rewatch Black Adder for the umteenth time … it has been a few years.
TEA!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsLSLMIX3P0
Thanks for that one! One of my favourite bits of Blackadder.
Grew up watching Jeeves and Wooster. Love that show so very much. What ho!!
Poor you and poor Lovestosmellgood! You have the colds from hell!
Loved them both in Blackadder. Especially Laurie as Prince George. One of my favorite scenes – Prince’s moving letter to a prospective bride (00:09-00:55) – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7ylFCbgo0Q
Most excellent, thank you for the evening laugh!
I love that scene as well, but I think the first few seconds of this one are exceptionally brilliant. The sheer emptiness of those blue eyes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkYb3z8Ecq4&t=38s
Yep.
And I have never thought of it before, but apparently Prince George even sleeps in his wig. 😀
Memo Sham’s Oud, on a chilly spring day. I am liking this a lot. It doesn’t have a lot of changes, but it is just a nice version of this traditional Arabian scent. Plus, every time I wear it, Adorable Hubby mentions that , “I smell good!.” I am eyeing a FB when this lovely decant is gone. I have wanted a Memo bottle, and I like the one this comes in, with the cheerful sun. Anything for more sun, here in chronically overcast Michigan. 🙂
I don’t know the line much – only sniffed the testers in a store once, but yes, those bottles look great!
There are a couple I like – Kedu and Tiger’s Nest, and one, Latin Quartier, which I expected to love, but it triggers a wave of nausea every time I sniff it. The weirdest thing. I have smelled the leathers, and they were sort of ok, but none of them rang a bell for me. It is worth exploring the line. They are $$$, but they use good quality ingredients. The Sham’s oud they have is much smoother than the $12.00 roll on Sham’s oud you find in the shops.
Still commando because cooking all morning, but plan to douse myself with some Jardin sur la Toit, so I will smell nice doing laundry.
Toothache all weekend. Went to dentist yesterday to discover that my 15 year old root canal has abscessed. Feeling better because drugs, but will be a process to remove it and place implant. Also, $$$$.
Ah, well. C’est la vie. Glad to have born after the discovery of antibiotics.
I hear you! I have spent a small fortune on my teeth, some of it unnecessary (the saga of the wrong tooth being root-canal-ed, then pulled etc. etc.). Good luck and I hope it won’t cost as much as you fear!
Omg a root canal on the wrong tooth?!? What a nightmare.
a root canal, a pulled tooth, a bridge…and then of course another root canal in the tooth that actually needed it. Choose your dentist wisely!
Seriously.
OMG!!
GAH!!
How awful! I’m so sorry you had to go through that. At least I can pay this off procedure by procedure, instead of one lump sum.
Tooth abscesses can be the worst.
Pretty much…
Have to agree about the antibiotics but what a terrible experience! I hate teeth stuff but unfortunately I do love to chew, so there’s that. And the worst pain is in the wallet.
To be honest, that’s the pain I’m more upset about.
Sorry for the ruined weekend because of tooth abcess. Hope everthing will go smoothly.
Thank you!
Here’s to analgesics and antibiotics!
Someone once said to me, “Wouldn’t it have been fun to live in horse and buggy days?” And I was like, What?!?
To continue with the “A” theme: no analgesics, antibiotics OR anesthetics. I’ll pass on that, thanks.
I also quite enjoy having the right to vote 😉
I was thinking about that, too (along with a multitude of other measures of progress) but couldn’t do the mental gymnastics to keep the alliteration going. 🙂
That cracked me up.
Tooth pain is the worst. As is the expense to get it taken care of. I hope it’s all behind you soon!
Part of my aversion to cloves (eaten and in perfume)I think is I used clove oil for a really bad tooth ache I had a number of years ago that would recur, until I finally had it pulled. Not a good association.
Oh YUCK and ICK on having a tooth abscess! I hope that it was caught soon enough that you won’t have any issues or complications from all that. Makes me shudder!
Oh goodness my dad has been battling a tooth abscess. I know how much pain he has been in- you have my sympathies!
L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage
You smell classy!
It’s warming up today, and quickly! Feeling fresh in MFK Aqua Universalis Forte
Working on a new play festival of staged readings going up on Saturday–many late nights this week, so fresh is good….
That must be exhausting/exhilarating! Glad you have something fresh to keep you alert…
Chanel Bois des Iles, edp. Lovely! This week started in Chanel with N.19 yesterday (thanks KellyC!!).
A question for you: I’m headed to London in June and want to go to a couple of perfume places – I was thinking of Parfums de Nicolai and Ormonde Jayne, but would be happy to hear other suggestions!! I’ll only have half a day or so for sniffing, I think.
Thanks!
I’d recommend Bloom perfumery in Covent Garden, also Liberty on Regent Street, such a beautiful and unique building!
Fortnum and Mason is great for perfume pleasures too, and also tea of course.
I second Mayfly’s recommendations. I also find that Harrods, as crowded and touristy as it is these days, has an impressive array of perfume offerings for a one stop shop if you are pressed for time.
Take a look at Persolaise’s London perfume shopping page below for a comprehensive list. Enjoy London!
.
http://persolaise.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-all-new-london-perfume-shopping.html
Thanks for the recommendations! Yes, I think I am curious about Harrods despite the crowds, and will definitely look at the other perfume place mentioned as well as the guide. And tea, too!
You’ve been smelling great!
Wearing Mugler Oriental Express today. It doesn’t fit the mood of the painting much, but on dreary days like that (like TODAY) my instinct is to fight it with something warm, powdery, cozy. So I guess it fits in its own way, and I smell amazing, if you’ll allow me to brag 😉
Brag away! You smell fantastic!
I would love a decant or OE. It has a slightly medicinal note that I really enjoy with vanilla.
I can see myself springing for one soon, I’m on my 2nd sample. I really love it!
Today I’m wearing Creed’s Fleurissimo for no particular reason other than I since we finally are having a warm day, I thought of a light tuberose. I haven’t worn it in a very long time, but it is a pretty scent.
I haven’t tried this tuberose. I will look for it – I have been on a tuberose kick.
I am in the most perfect scent for this Northern California dewy cool morning. The air is vibrating with shots of sun and humidity in that way that you know it is going to get very warm… I LOVE these mornings. They are the mornings of summer when I was a kid. I remember being so cold in my shorts, and even colder on plastic-backed seats on the bus to wherever–but it was all worth it for the glorious hot day ahead.
Perfume? CdG’s Stephen Jones.
Nothing more freaky-gorgeous than Stephen Jones! Hope you’ve had a great hot day!
What a great description, and I remember just that feeling!
What ho! I am in T.Rex because it’s a kicking A and taking Ns kind of day.
Ha! Go girl! ??
Love that one!
Thank you for your synopsis of the GOK painting!
My dentist wasn’t exactly happy yesterday. Some spots in my mouth are irritated and a little swollen along with two sketchy fillings. She had to ask why I didn’t come in sooner, I said that I didn’t have health insurance and didn’t have the money to go in. Thinking of getting a mini of Les Annees 25 off of Andy Tauer’s website. Wearing PHI Une Rose Kandahar today while I make my way to work.
I already complained about teeth up thread, but medical professionals can be so irritating sometimes. I don’t have dental insurance either and those prices are so high they’re prohibitive.
So sorry you’re having dental troubles too! I have health, but no dental, and pay cash. My dentist is pretty understanding, though.
I’m always puzzled and irritated that dental isn’t part of health insurance. Like it’s some separate thing and a luxury item like a face lift or something. Something seriously wrong with this system.
Agree! That is definitely messed up.
Yes, especially since research had inextricablely linked dental/gum health to cardiovascular disease.
Leather Oud Christian Dior
Haven’t smelled that one in ages, but my notes say that I liked it. I’m no good at coming up with song lyrics to match perfumes (or occasions); I’ll just leave you to hum along something appropriate… 🙂
I am wearing HdP 1876 which Is growing on me. I received a rare perfume compliment today. It might also fit the cp since it is green and aromatic.
That’s the Mata Hari one, right? You deserved that compliment! 🙂
Yes it is and thank you!
SJP Lovely Sheer for a yoga session at my sports studio. Later topped up with some Nomade at the drugstore. Looked for summer sandals at the outlet, but did not find a nice pair, that was comfy and chic.
I’ve tried Nomade a couple of times, but haven’t been able to make up my mind about it. How’s it working for you?
I am beginning to contemplate a bottle, its perfect for nearly every occasion and a no brainer for work
I’m always looking for comfy and chic sandals it seems.
I ordered two pairs of price reduced clarks yesterday evening on Amazon. Hope they will fit
Started the day in Chanel 1957 and thunked my decant. It is fading now, so I’m going to top it off with some Eau Premiere.
We’ve been watching Les Miserables on PBS’ Masterpiece and I’m hooked. I’m probably the only living person who hasn’t seen the movie version where Anne Hathaway chopped her hair off.
I have yet to watch a Masterpiece series that I don’t like. They are very well done imho.
Anne Hathaway had the cutest pixie cut while her hair was growing out after that movie. I’m sure I took at least one picture of her cut to my hairdresser 🙂
Wow, that 1957 decant didn’t last long at all! Will you be getting another one to replace it?
I’m trying to think if I’ve seen the movie but I know I’ve seen it in live theatre at least twice — I never tire of it!
Nope, I didn’t see it either!
It is glorious out and I am well overdressed. I never manage to get it quite right in the season changes. Anyway, better too hot than too cold for me.
SOTD Jour d’Hermes Absolu since foxbins mentioned it yesterday. And I love it ?
I haven’t been able to quite get the clothing right for the weather recently either. It’s a puzzlement!
I would rather be overdressed. It was cool this morning and someone just wore a short sleeve collar shirt. I do not want to see him in shorts.
This time of year is so hard to dress for. One day it’s in the 70s the next day the 50s.
I’m in Under the Lemon Trees, which is about as far away from that painting as pluto is from earth.
If anyone is looking for sale winter gear, I stumbled on an Eddie Bauer sale last night and got a beautiful down, water repellent packable jacket for a song last night. Also purchased a couple of robust 1/4 zips for an excellent price. ??
Glad you scored at the EB sale, they seem very sensible purchases.
What do you think of Under The Lemon Trees? ?
I like it. I feel very “hajusuuri” when I spray because you can go to town without it getting overwhelming. Semi-sweet lemon that lasts a moderate amount of time, then dries down to an inoffensive musk , then disappears. I just sprayed again. I bought a travel size in a moment of weakness at Sephora. It will be good to keep in my work bag because there are some really raunchy smells in my line of work. ?
Hooray for oversprayers!
Wearing Habanita today, I need comfort on this dreary day made drearier by it’s contrast to the beautiful day we had yesterday.
Thanks for all the lovely comments to my Chanel Coco story last Friday, I was a bit overwhelmed at the response 🙂
Your day should definitely get less dreary when you wear Habanita!
In YSL Y edt, it’s been a long time since I’ve worn it and is a favorite fruity chypre, it’s also slightly powdery which I had not noted before. It always reminds me of one of my aunts who wore it along with Guerlain Parure and No 5: she had good taste in perfume.
Great taste indeed! I bet Y is perfect on you.
Thank you FearsMice, it was nice to remember her by wearing Y.
Today I’m wearing Bulgari Green Tea and Grace Coddington. The Bulgari is one of my pleasant no-brainers, and while Grace is really lovely, I don’t think I’m enough of a rose person to make the full bottle investment. But I have a decant, and I will definitely enjoy what I have.
Have a great day, everyone
I like both of those, but wouldn’t have thought to wear them together. Now you’re giving me ideas…
Me too, FearsMice. I can see those layering really nicely.
I had such a busy easter weekend.
Not complaining though. Good company, fun activities and weather was exceptionally good here, it felt like summer!
SotD is Œillet Bengale.
At the moment I am reading Mama’s Last Hug by Frans de Waal. Subtitle is ‘animal emotions and what they tell us about ourselves’. I am really enjoying it so far!
He’s a good writer. I want to read that too.
Oh I love the photo, I love those two. I wrote my thesis about a Biit of Fry and Laurie back in the day.
I’m wearing Eau des Mervielles – it’s been weeks, I was on a sample testing “project”, so to speak. I quite forgot how amazing this is, it made me very happy today. I wasn’t 100% sure this was worth buying at the time, but I’m falling deeper in love with each wear.
What was the thesis about?
Siblings or cousins!
I showed Bertie Wooster the cat a picture of the “real” Bertie Wooster but he didn’t seemed too impressed. I was up and out early, bought some more plants at the nursery and the man at the info desk said they were all reasonably hard to kill, so we’ll see. The past two hot, dry summers killed most of the new landscaping in the front yard so I’m having to replant. SOTD is Chanel Gardenia parfum.
Good luck with your new batch of nursery plants! ???
Maybe he would be impressed with Jeeves the cat 😉
Good luck with your plants!
I think I’m matching the O’Keefe pretty well in St. Clair’s First Cut.
I haven’t tried this one yet. The only one I’ve tried is Casablanca and it is gorgeous BEEEG ?
Back in vintage Diorissimo again today. I think that the top notes of the little dabber sample I am currently using might be off… I get a distinct whiff of acetone sometimes immediately after I apply it. Thankfully, that aroma doesn’t stick around for long.
What a shame!
It’s not that bad… it’s only “whiffy” for a couple of minutes. The rest of the time, that sample is gorgeous. It is, however, a reminder not to hoard things, especially vintage perfume samples!
Very true! Glad you’re wearing and enjoying it. You smell terrific.
Thank you FearsMice! I hope to use up that sample before summer starts.
At least it’s only a sample. You still smell wonderful. Diorissimo is gorgeous but a late spring/summer scent for me.
Not sure I could wear Diorissimo in the height of a humid New Jersey summer!
It sounds like Diorissmo envelops you in a cloud so from one NewJerseyean to another, I agree, not for the sunmer!
It’s amazing and a little scary how a bit of humidity can cause scents to “blow up”!
You are smelling just lovely! Spray away.
Thanks Gail! ?
I went back to teaching today (on campus, that is, as opposed to Skype) and it went well. I felt so happy to be back and I think my students were happy too. I wore Anima Dulcis and it was a good choice. Was wanting to get a few other things out to wear soon, but for now my movements are too restricted and so I can’t bend down to search in my perfume cabinet. In time.
At least you have the comforts of home and much of your routine. Wishing you a complete recovery very soon!
Yay for a slow but steady return to your routine!
Glad you are back home. You’ll be back to normal or new normal in no time!
I am still so happy you’re home. Glad the day teaching (in person) went well. Hugs!
Good for you! And an excellent choice of scents, too!
Late to the party but still made it!
SOTD = Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue
This one is very easy to wear and overspraying is the way to go. Today I used 5 but I could easily have worn 7 or 8 without gassing myself out. Mineral notes, woods, spices and patchouli 101 aka beginners’ patch.
You can see a picture of my bottle in a marine setting (heh, a placemat, for full disclosure) by clicking on my username and following the link. You do not need to have an account to view. Alternatively, you can go to instagram.com forward slash hajusuuri. It’s probably one of my best pictures ever! And the perfumer, Christine Nagel, “liked” it. W00t❣️
That Christine Nagel “like” is a feather in your perfumista cap! Too cool!
It feels special. Nowadays, many of them are on IG, including many of the indie / niche perfumers we know and love. That said, I am shaking my head at Frederic Malle and will unfollow.
Congratulations! Whenever I tag Hermes on Instagram, she likes my post! It is very very sweet and makes my day each time.
It’s a thrill for sure! I don’t know how you manage to produce them regularly. My one or maybe two were trial and error!
I can’t see the picture. Insta wants me to sign in no matter which method I use. I’ll try again later using my phone. This IPad is gasping It’s last breath.
Ooh, I hope you get to see it!
Loved your insta pic and you smell perfect!
Thank you!
It really is a gorgeous photo!
Thank you. It was 1% skill and 99% luck. The bottle kept sliding until I just gave it the what for — yeah my bed has several layers of convoluted covers!
Wearing a couple drops of Lush Smuggler’s Soul oil. A bit of a stressful day at work, but this time it was during our break.
There’s a newbie group who seems to have to talk at the top of their lungs, meanwhile my group couldn’t hear each other, even though we were sitting across from each other chatting quietly. Newbie group was at the other end if the breakroom, 20 feet away. One of my people piped up finally and asked them to please not talk so loudly! It kind of spiralled quickly, and we were told to ‘book the boardroom’. We just re-iterated that its everyone’s room, and be respectful of others; please keep your voices down. Long story short, our Supervisor was emailed just in case it gets brought up and gets ugly. Ugh!
I am sorry for your work frustrations! I have a co-worker whom I love dearly but talks SO LOUD on the phone! It makes me insane!
What the —? They’re the disruptive ones! I am looked at as a leader for our section (and for the entire floor as well, come to think of it!). I’ve had to remind people to NEVER use a speakerphone in an open environment, use their library voice when on the phone and do not congregate in the seating area and keep talking — schedule a room and I have them directions. I actually have no qualms about telling people to their face that they need to lower their voices.
Edward Bess Genre for me today. Surely there is a horse and some leather around that barn somewhere?! I mainly wore it because I love it so much but I think it could fit the picture also. It’s on my never-ending FB list.
My hubs had to go to Alabama for work and met up with my son. They FaceTimed me and sent me pictures which for some reason made me insanely emotional. I love them both so much (insert unreasonable crying face). Mainly I am just so happy they love each other. The first few years my hubs and I dated were touch and go. My son was 14ish and did not like mom having a new guy in her life I don’t think. So they butted heads a lot but now they’re best buds!
Maybe as much as you hate to see them grow up, you’re actually glad that they do mature (kids, I mean)? 🙂
I ❤️ this — the loves of your life!
Wore Bottega Veneta today. I’m about to take a late evening stroll around the block (it’s really just an excuse to go bury my nose in the neighbor’s lilacs…).
Two wonderful smells were in your day today!
You smell really elegant, and how right you are to bury your nose in lilacs, the ones across my street are in bloom and it is such a treat.
Mmmm good!
SotD = Assam of India
The scent automation project continues, so far so good.
I love Bertie and Jeeves!
Favorite Shakespeare quote, as I am so late today, is
Time travels in divers paces with divers persons.
(As You Like It act 3, sc. 2)
