We're celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day (it falls on Sunday this year) with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite lucky green perfume, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Greetings, all!
SOTD is Chanel No. 5, edt, current formulation. It’s a fresh bottle, all shiny and new! The weather is turning towards warm and spring-like (high 50’s anyway), finally, and I am excited to go out without a coat today! I might even rebel and wear sandals.
Mr. Spicebomb and I are house shopping this weekend. 5-6 on the docket today. It’d be nice if we loved one of them!
Oh, I remember the house shopping days – exciting and frustrating at the same time.
The market in Portland can be absolutely ridiculous. A well-priced home in a good neighborhood goes in hours! And I am not awesome at making quick decisions. We’ve put in 3 offers so far, always when there were multiple on a property. Some day, we’ll get one accepted!
Have fun!
Good luck! ?
Good luck on house shopping!
Good luck finding a house!
Please report in on how the houses were!
We looked at 5 houses. 3 were more-or-less immediate “no’s.” One was an amazing house, but not a great location. One was a very nice house in an amazing location. We put in an offer on that one, so *fingers crossed* this is the offer we get accepted! Apparently, they’ve got at least 3 other competing offers to consider. No idea how ours will compare!
Very wise. Twenty years ago our very first realtor told us the top three rules of real estate are: 1. Location 2. Location 3. Location. Lol.
Good luck!?
The problem is today’s bad location could be tomorrow’s hot market… we have friends who bought years ago in the wasteland of Hudson Yards neighborhood in Manhattan. They are sitting very pretty today….
House update–so, that one’s not ours.
They accepted an offer this morning $60,000 over asking, with cash so they don’t have to prove it’s worth that much. So, we keep shopping. . . (No offense to the Californians out there, but ONLY Californians do that here. It makes it very hard for “normal” locals to afford a home in town.)
When I was a kid — so this is decades ago — my family was vacationing in Oregon and I still remember that even way back then I saw a bumper sticker that said “Don’t Californicate Oregon.” Guess we’re still doing it.
Sorry Marjorie Rose!
Etro Musk …thunk….and thank you pixel!
In ode to Koyel, eating cherry pie while cooking corned beef and cabbage..later I will indulge in some Irish soda bread…
favorite green of the moment is Eau de Lierre…I have enough of this (thank you cazaubon) to share with my middle one who also likes it and will probably decant some for herself before heading back to university following spring break…
and another green favorite is St Clair Scents First Cut…while not necessarily a green fragrance the juice is green and it reminds me of spring meadows…lush and green.
🙂 smelling good!
Thanks, cazaubon! Might go wit my eau de Lierre tomorrow ????
Yum! Hope you’re enjoying that pie 🙂
Believe me I am!!! Thanks for suggesting it ?
Have you ever had Iris soda bread with marzipan inside?
Oh, that sounds good!
What????? No!!! Now I need to find it!!!!
You need to make it ?
I really like Eau de Lierre too. I think I used up my decant this past year, so I may need to get more at some point.
It’s a great green fragrance and so nice in the spring!!
If you can’t find your decant give me a holler!
Just back from Celeste perfumes in The Hague (thanks mag20 and austenfan for the tip). It was a pleasant place to spend half an hour reacquainting myself with perfume shops after a long no-buy.
I bought Molinard “Habanita” and Annick Goutal “Encens Flamboyant”, and got samples of Etro “Messe de Minuit”, Galion “Special for Gentlemen”, Naomi Goodsir “Bois d’Ascese”, Houbigant “Fougère Royale”, Serge Lutens “le participe passé” and Trudon “Mortel”.
The weather here all week: rainy, cloudy, windy: you can have any 2 (but mostly all 3).
I should add: SOTD was, of course, Givenchy “Pi”, since that’s all I have.
I don’t think I have any green perfumes. The Houbigant above is a candidate, as are Amouage “Bracken” and Nobile 1942 “Fougère Nobile”.
Nice choices! But I don’t envy your weather.
Mmm, what a haul!
The weather is very typically Dutch, only more of it. Apparently it will get better in the course of next week.
Congrats on your purchases and I’m very glad to hear you had a good time at Céleste! I’ve always liked it as a shop.
Nice haul on the FB and the samples! Good you’re with TOMK this time around instead of just seeing him on the weekends!
Top o’ the morning to ye all!
I’d like to ask a question of all of you: Now that spring has sprung here, I’m on the lookout for eau de colognes that are fresh and don’t necessarily have long lasting power. I’m happy if it’s gone after 2 hours. The hitch: I don’t like scents that read masculine (to give you a reference: the much beloved Azemour d’Oranges is way too masculine to me), and I never liked the smell of 4711, which sat atop every dressing table in every house in my youth.
I do like lavender…., and Eau de Guerlain smelled good on a paper strip. Would love to hear some suggestions for fleeing, fresh, lovely Eau-s.
Thanks!
How about Bulgari’s Eau Parfumee au The Bleu? It has some lavendar and a bit of iris, and has become a favourite summer’s day spritz.
Did not see AnnieA’s reply when writing my post. I second her suggestion!
I’ve actually been thinking about this one – I’ve smelled it before, briefly, and need to revisit! Thanks for the suggestion!
You might like some of the Hermessences – Osmanthe Yunnan, Vetiver Tonka – for the very qualities you mention. They are light and fresh, but do not have a masculine cologne vibe. Now that I think about it, the Jardin series from Hermes is also in that vein.
The Aqua Allegorias from Guerlain might be a good fit, too – Mandarine Basilic, Herba Fresca, Lavande Velours.
Thanks for all the suggestions, Lisa D! I in fact have tried a lot of those, and they’re lovely, but I’m looking for more fleeting than that – kind of the after shower all over body spray experience. I have not tried Lavande Velours, though.
Sounds like you do not like moss and ‘old-school-cologne’ accord in your colognes…
Here are my suggestions. Not all of them are colognes in the traditional sense, but you seem to look for something not traditional.
Mugler Cologne – I think it smells very modern and very unisex.
Chanel Eau de Cologne
Dior Escale collection. My favorite is Escale a Portofino. Would not call it fleeting though.
Goutal Eau d’Hadrien
Goutal Eau du Sud (mossy, but if you like Eau de Guerlain, you may like this one too)
Carthusia Mediterraneo
Maybe Chanel’s new Les Eaux (Deauville, Biarritz and Venise). I am not a big fan of this line, but lots of people like them.
Hermes’ Jardin line.
JHAG Gentlewoman (described as ‘feminized cologne’). Nice neroli, and it has lavender.
Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu. Not really a cologne, but a fresh lavender scent for spring and summer.
Hope it helps. If I remember something else, I’ll add a reply to my post.
So many suggestions – thanks Glannys. I’m intrigued by Gentlewoman (the name!), and definitely want to try the Mugler and Chanel. I think I’m really looking for a body-spray type scent – so light that you can douse yourself in it.
How about Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant or Bergamote Soleil?
Or Chanel Paris-Deauville?
Thanks Lucas – I just got myself a decant of Bergamote Soleil after liking a sample of it!
I would agree on the Ateliers. My personal favorite is Bois Blonds, which is a lovely combination of citrus and light incense. My complaint is that it is too fleeting, so it may be just what you’re looking for!
Agree that the Atelier series is the way to go. Sample at Sephora. There are MANY and I like many of them— my complaint is that they are too fleeting, so that’s perfect. I too love citrus and they are far more fleeting on my skin than most other recs.
wearing Bergamote today and it’s still present after 5 hours on me – but in a pretty faint way. Must try Bois Blond next time I’m near a big Sephora – our JC Penney one doesn’t carry them.
So many lovely recommendations here.
In my opionin
* Anything Atelier is great – seconding the Bergamote Soleil recommendation and most of their explicitly labeled citrus ones (all of them tend to have some citrus in them but the ones that explicitly have a citrus in the name tend to feel more summery for me)
* Bvlgari anything tea are easy to wear and light. I have Eau au The Bleu but would like the Green tea one as well and I tend to think I tried another one that I liked as well.
* Diptique Eau anything (Eau rose / Eau lente and so on) are lovely
But my personal light favorite remains Hermes Un Jardin apres la mousson.
I’ve wanted to have Mousson for a long time, trying it in stores, then changing my mind about it (same story with Gentiane Blanche) – maybe I should give it another try!
I feel the same for most other Jardins.
One more idea I just remembered : You Or Someone Like You from Etat Libre d’Orange.
Very minty and fresh.
Seconding Lucasai on Paris-Deauville or Paris-Venice.
Thirding if there is such a word…. on the Paris Deauville
I’ll try these again – did a quick airport sniff of these last summer and didn’t love them then (aquatic note perhaps?) but didn’t give them time or skin space!
Art de Parfum “Gin and tonic cologne” is very fresh and lives up to its name, so if you like G&Ts this is worth a shot.
I do like G&T when it gets warmer – I’ll look into that, thanks Koenigsberg!
Chanel No. 18 smells like gin & tonic to me.
Hi Eschmeling, PdN L’eau Chic and Eau d’Ete are lovely, light and relatively fleeting. Both are available in small (30 ml) bottles. Good luck!
Maybe I should just revisit what I already have – I own Chic! 🙂 It’s pretty persistent on me though – minty, minty, more minty.
Maybe Carthusia Mediterraneo: fleeting citrus, very nice while it lasts.
Seconding this suggestion.
I’ll check this out, thanks!
Maybe you might like to try some of the Hermes Eaux; Rhubarbe Ecarlate or Pamplemousse Rose don’t come across as too masculine to me. Alternatively a Hermès Jardin, Sur le Toit is very pretty and is probably the most feminine of them all.
Alternatively I second Mugler Cologne, eau parfumée au thé bleu (and while you are doing Bvlgaris you might want to try thé vert as well). Also second the Chanel cologne and the Paris-Deauville and Vénise.
You might also like to try Eau de Cartier, a very unusual cologne. I also like Eau de Lalique, but it is no longer made.
On the Goutal front I second Hadrien and Sud and you might just like Ninfeo Mio, a lot longer lasting than your average cologne, but very green and refreshing and not at all like the colognes you didn’t like.
Oh and for body sprays the Clarins Eaux are very nice as well! And not expensive.
thanks Austenfan – I think I better start a list here so I won’t forget all these ideas. I’ve always been interested in eau dynamisante – maybe I should look into that. I think one of my aunts used that.
Demeter may have something you are looking for.
Eschmeling, you might like Demeter’s New Zealand! Thanks to a decant from the awesome perfumelover67, I got to try it & liked it enough to seek out and purchase a 4 fl oz bottle on perfume dot com for a whopping 16 bucks. It’s light and marine-ish with some green and lasts pretty well, for a Demeter (which are reportedly famous for disappearing in 90 mins, but at least they’re inexpensive unlike, say, Jo Malone).
I feel bad having mentioned Demeter’s NZ after the horrible events in the real New Zealand. I try to do “no news weekends” to keep my sanity, and hadn’t heard about the heartbreaking crime that had happened there. My apologies…?
I second Gail’s Demeter suggestion. Sunshine may be a good choice!
Thanks to both hajusuuri and ElleBe – I’ll keep an eye out for the demeters! Lush has a perfume called Sun which is super fleeting as well – but my daughter has it, and the kids don’t like to smell like Mom…. 🙂
Why not Eau de Guerlain then? Great stuff.
I love Chanel No.5 L’eau All over spray, it is refreshing without being cologny and it is like a body spray , doesn’t last long.
Ooh! I must look into this – I”m a big Chanel 5 fan!
Chanel Cuir de Russie. It is cold and gray here today, currently 54 degrees. We have the fireplace going right now. Cozy 🙂
54 counts as warm where I am in March! We are in the 40s with sun and it feels like spring!
I might be getting a decant of that in the mail today. A bit ironic, since we’ll be in the 70ies from now on and it’s more of a lower temp scent – in any case, you smell great!
I love CdR I’m ANY temps. Enjoy!
SOTD is Paul Emilien Pure Addiction.
Instead of celebrating St Patrick’s Day I will be celebrating my birthday tomorrow. 🙂 Although I do like beer and green color.
Today: a lot of rain and exhausting (but fun) choir practice. Just a month till the concert, and I am both nervous and excited.
And, finally, my belated report on five lavender scents I tested in February: Chanel Boy, Guerlain AA Lavande Velours, SL Encens et Lavande, Lancome Lavandes Trianon and Guerlain Mon Guerlain.
I am sorry, but I did not really like any of them. Boy is not bad – musky powdery lavender, but something is lacking there for me… But I think I will finish the sample. Lavande Velours and Encens et Lavande both smell unpleasant and weird at the start, although their lavender parts are pretty good. Lavandes Trianon and Mon Guerlain are just too sweet for me, although MG has a lovely sillage (my mom actually complimented it on me). I know some of the above scents have devoted fans here. Well, more for you, ladies and gentlemen!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you!
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday!
😆 I meant thank you! I am sleepy.
Happy Birthday!
Thank you!
Happy birthday! The lavender search continues. 🙂
Thanks! Lavender is one of my favorite notes, so I am always curious about perfumes with this note.
a very happy birthday to you! as to lavender, I’ve heard good things about Molinard’s Lavande. I ordered a sample a couple of days ago, but still waiting for it…
The new one? 2018 release? Please share what you think of it when you get it.
And thanks for birthday wishes!
Happy birthday Glannys! ????
Thank you! Good emoji(s). I’ll be definitely eating some cake and drinking some wine tomorrow. 🙂
Many happy returns Glannys!
Thank you!
So you are on a lavender hunt, too! I concur with Lavandes Trianon, which I own a decant of – on the too sweet side.
What is the concert? We just did a hard, but rewarding one with our choir (Vaughn Williams) – it is so cool when all the hard work pays off!
I do not actively look for lavender scents at the moment, but I do love lavender, so I had some samples featuring this note. For me, it’s just a fun and efficient way of going through my unsniffed samples. I look them up on Fragrantica, write down the most noticeable notes for each sample and then pick some with the same notes. And it looks like the next bunch for testing will be vanilla and amber.
Congratulations on your concert! Well done! I hope ours will be rewarding too. Mine is a Baroque chorus, so we mostly sing 15th-16th century music. The most famous pieces we’ll sing are probably Gaudete, Tourdion (Quand je bois…), Ave Maria (Bach Gounod) and If Ye Love Me.
Happy Birthday!
Thank you!
Happy birthday!!
Happy bday
Happy Birthday, Glannys!
Hope it is a perfect birthday Glannys!
Happy birthday to you! And thanks for giving me a craving for Encens et Lavande.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!??
Enjoy your birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you very much, everyone! 🙂
Did you know that the 17th of March is also the day of St. Gertrude, patron of cats? I have only found out today. How cool is that?!
I did not pick a birthday scent this year but instead tested three scents: Profumum Roma Dulcis in Fundo, Fendi Theorema Esprit d’Ete and Theorema Leggero. Dulcis in Fundo was not really promising at the start (lemon cake, kind of boring) but then got warmer and morphed into a lovely skin vanilla. As for Theorema flankers, I can only say that I’ll stick with the original Theorema. 🙄
I find “Dulcis in Fundo” a very poor name choice for any product, at least in a latin-language speaking country. ” fundo” is literal “bottom” in Portuguese ( and it’s “fondo” in Italian)… and “dulcis” is the latin origin for the word sweet ( which is “dolce” in Italian and “doce” in portuguese).
It’s kind of funny though.
Monica, it’s in Latin and it appears to follow the rules of Latin grammar. ‘Dulcis’ is an adjective meaning sweet, ‘in’ is a preposition taking ablative object and ‘fundo’ is ablative case for ‘fundus’, noun meaning ‘bottom’. So the literal translation is ‘sweet at the bottom’. Wictionary, however, told me that in Italian this Latin phrase is used in the sense ‘last but not least; to cap it all’.
A name with a double meaning, I guess. 🙂
Thanks for having me look this up – it was a fun little research!
Hah that is interesting! Latin double meanings, who would have thought. Thank you for sharing, learning new things 🙂
Happy birthday too!
Hope that you had a great birthday today Glannys! ????
BTW, I loved hearing about St. Gertrude. My 3 cats also thank you. ???
Thank you, Jalapeno, it was pretty good.
“Patrick, Shmatrick… It’s another day of kitties, silly humans. Miaow!”
I wanted to post about a past topic, bitters. Someone asked for some nice bitter brands and my 2 favorite are:
Bitter Cube
Dashfire Bitters, my favorite favorite try the cardamom or cherry bark vanilla
Both have really interesting and fantastic flavors. Even without alcohol, a few drops in club soda make a lovely refreshing drink. Both brands seem pricey, truthfully all bitters are pricey, but a little goes a very long way.
Have done well with Fee Brothers, and am buying the rhubarb bitters as a hostess gift for my cousin. She is also getting some rhubarb-scented soap and shower gel – first time for a fully thematic gift assortment.
Instant lemming! I don’t like sweets much at all, and plain water gets so dull – must look into these.
I think that was me—thanks for the suggestions!
Favorite lucky fragrance at the moment is Christian Dior Lucky! It’s not quite green in scent but it is green in color. It’s a fresh and watery white floral centered around lily of the valley. I haven’t much experience with lotv fragrances so I can’t say if it’s a “good” interpretation of it, but I do like it!
A green LOTV called Lucky is genius.
May all of us have someone in our lives who is precious like a four-leaf clover!
My parents left for a trip to Egypt this morning, I went back home after I drove them to the airport.
Acquasala from Gabriella Chieffo is my SotD.
I had a chance to try new Hermes Le Jardin Sur la Lagune and I am quite disappointed. The opening is pretty but after a couple of minutes the perfume turns into a stale soap odour on my skin…
Oh it’s getting to be time to pull out Aquasala! You smell great.
Why thank you!
Eew, stale soap does not sound good.
Wearing Black March today and smelling like March in the northeast of the USA, where I am.
Good choice! You smell perfect!
Yum!
Lazy lazy Saturday. . . But woke up with a stomachache. My oldest is away skiing with a friend this weekend and I am having severe pangs about his impending departure for college next year. Normally I am thrilled when he gets out of the house with friends, but this morning it feels like he’s left a giant hole. Gah! Silly me.
In other news, inspired by the new release listings on NST, I am in Shalimar edp—straight up, not a flanker. Today it is absolutely perfect. I’ve toyed with swapping away my bottle. So glad I didn’t.
It must be so hard when then leave!
Transitions are hard, and I have zero helpful advice! Hope the stomach is better by now.
Not silly at all Oakland Fresca. I’ve sent two off now and thought I might die of a broken heart both times. It is hard but I did survive. I am finding myself really enjoying the way my relationship is evolving with each of them. As they become more independent in navigating the world and making their own decisions, I am slowly stepping back from “parenting” them, and I can admire my “work.” Lol. I did good! I’m sure you did too! Enjoy the last few months with him home.?
Boos des Iles for a spring housecleaning day.
Make that Bois! ?
I love Boos des Iles. No idea what it would mean but it sounds kind of nicely odd.
?
Booze des Iles would be rum-scented, right?
Ha!
I’m wearing Dzongkha today because it was waving at me and saying “hello! Choose me!”
My favorite green thing right now is actually my facial cleanser – I got a sample of Youth to the People’s Kale, Spinach and Green Tea Superfood Cleanser in a Sephora order and loved the scent so much I immediately bought a bottle. Oh, and it seems to be a fine cleanser too, so bonus!
Great choice! One of my favorites.
My perfumes do that too. 🙂
I put Korrigan on today and it will be my scent of the evening, too, as it lasts a long time on me. I really like this one, and always enjoy it whenever I wear it.
Love korrigan you smell great!!
Cold here this morning, took a long time for the house to heat up. Had to put a sweater on my poor shivering dog. But it’s sunny and warmer now. 🙂 TF Amber Absolute is the scent of the day. Will try to think of something Irish for tomorrow.
Hope the baby warmed up with her sweater !!
She did! I put the sweater on her and wrapped her up in her blankie. Sun is out and warm now, sweater is off and we just got back from a lovely walk. And I figured out what to wear tomorrow: Memo Irish Leather!
Oh that’s perfect!
I’m wearing Absolue pour le soir, which packs a punch. It’s probably the most original of all the Kurdjians but also not going to be universally pleasing.
Yeah I get that it’s good, but I can’t wear it. Too much cumin for me.
Cumin doesn’t bother me at all, but it is a very dense fragrance.
Lovve AplS! I toy with buying a backup.
wearing Flagrant Delice by T. de Gunzburg. Today, I officially declared spring (although, the weather politely disagrees with my choice with low temperatures and incessant rain) by putting away my fall/winter box of scents and replacing it with my spring/summer collection. yee-haw!!! 😀
Yay, hope that casts a spell…
SOTD is SL Arabie. Saving green for tomorrow.
Mmm, nice! ;^)
In Floris Stephanotis, like a luxurious cosmetic cream: I smelled the flowers once in a florist, it was lovely.
Green: I’ve had a craving for Cacharel Eden, but my spring and summer bottles are still in a chest on the balcony, not yet sure I will bring them in for a while.
I might go for a blind buy of a mini of Eden sometime. I love the box and bottle and the scent sounds like it could work on me. What’s your take on it?
Well, it’s pretty unique and odd, it’s jungle green, long lasting on a bed of patchouli. It makes me think a little bit of decaying, humid vegetation – but in a nice way, it comes into its own in hot temperatures.
I love most jungle green with a little bit of decaying, humid vegetation perfumes that I’ve tried, so I will definitely seek out a sample or a mini. Thanks!
Wearing Banana Republic’s Wildbloom Vert today. A cheap Marshall’s find that’s light, nicely balanced and spring-y. We were in the mid-70’s the past couple days here just below DC, but today, we’re back in winterrrrrr…
I wish I lived near a Marshalls!
Well, it’s ~27 miles from my house in the sticks, but I have to drive in to get groceries anyway, so I do a fume-check every now & then. (I wish I had its sister store, TJMaxx, a lot closer.) I washed off the Wildbloom & put on Cuir de Russie since there’s a lot of mention of it on this thread. Nice! I got the Chanel exclusifs coffret set a few months ago and am embarrassed to admit I haven’t tried all of them yet. One of ’em smells exactly like a “lite” version of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Stash…Bois de Isles, I think?
Yes I have heard that TJMaxx also has great fragrance selections !
There’s nothing but crap at ours, San Diego very rarely gets anything other than dregs.
Cazaubon, I’ll swap your “Living-in-San-Diego” for my “Decent-TJ-Maxx” any day of the week (and twice on Sundays…!) ??
Happy sunny Saturday! We got up early to make brunch for some coworker friends of mine, and I put on Trayee for support. Brunch was lovely 🙂 and now I think my boyfriend and I will go for a bike ride to enjoy the weather. I haven’t biked in many many months, but…it’s like riding a bike, right?
Madtowngirl—if you’d like a sample of 10CC and another sandalwood scent, please email me at kobhatta at gmail. I mentioned this late last night, so you might’ve missed it 🙂
Okay! Will email you.?
I woke up with a scratchy, sore throat today. It seems that the bug travelling around my office finally reached me. Needed something comforting to put on so it’s Tauer’s Wowilla oil today. Being very lazy, sipping on tea and binge-watching Workin’ Moms with my fuzzy blanket on.
Favorite green frags are Calyx by Prescriptives and Chanel No. 19. Will try one of those tomorrow if I feel better.
Get a lot of rest. Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow. You can’t go wrong with either perfume tomorrow.
Sorry you’re sick. I always get especially annoyed to have a sickness start on a weekend, bu maybe that’s just me.
34 and partly cloudy today. I’m still trying to?kill em not so softly ?with to many sprays of Alien
I found the candy deal of the year: 2 six bar packs of Hershey bars for 3 dollars! I’m having one for lunch! Might go back for more tonight. ?
Ha! Go lillyjo!
Great find on the chocolate.. I’d stock up.
I think I will stock up… for the kids of course ?
Knock em dead with your Angel ???
I even replied on lunch!
😉
Keep going Lillyjo! Reapply as many times as you can! They will eventually have to like you or like you! ?
Ha! As long as they quit talking to me, I’m happy ?
Poison them with Poison now!?
I’m going to go with Tendre Poison today for the green bottle!
I feel your pain. My work station is near our main conference room, the reception area and a small kitchen, so I’m a frequent target for people who like to chat. Sometimes I get annoyed even with the nice people talking talking talking, either to me or to each other outside the kitchen. There’s one guy who likes to pace up and down in front of my station, talking on his cellphone. Luckily I know him pretty well and can shoo him away.
My work is so negative and gossipy, it’s insane.
There is plenty to complain about, but alot of the talk is just mean.
Lol, you go girl!
Are you team Roberta Flack, or team Fugees? I love both versions but am partial to Roberta because it was one of my mother’s favorites when I was a wee one. I’m sure the vinyl version is still buried somewhere in their house…
I have to go team Roberta, but I never hear that version unless I seek it out. I hated the fugees version at first, but it grew on me. I couldn’t tell you one other song by them.
In 1969, my mother, my brother (9) and myself (4) all flew to Ireland to meet my dad’s parents and family for the the first time ever. Due to his work schedule, my dad was going to be joining us in a week. He told my mother, “When you meet my parents, the customary Irish greeting is ‘póg mo thóin,’” which he told her means something along the lines of Delighted to Meet You!…
It doesn’t, and my mother was furious. The family, once they heard the back story, was delighted.
SOTD is deodorant because I forgot to spritz this morning due to hitting the snooze alarm one too many times. ?
I just looked up ‘póg mo thóin’ . That is funny!
I agree, that is funny!
That is a great story, Deva!
Ha! Sounds like your dad had quite the sense of humor! I had to look it up too.
Hahaha! I love stories like that!
The anglicized version of that phrase is where the Pogues got their name… they just dropped the Mahone. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘
I’m in 10 Corso Como today. Made some whole wheat chocolate espresso bread last night and it has been my main food group today! Plenty of antioxidants, so it could be worse. 🙂
That bread sounds great!
Wearing the green aromatic L’artisan Fou d’ Absinthe for St Patrick’s day. Baked potato soup, corn beef, cabbage salad and irish soda bread for dinner. Quiet and relaxing evening at home. So much needed!
We are food twins!!!
Happy to hear that you are having a much deserved relaxing day.
?☘??
I love corn beef, but only cooked it once in my life. I totally over cooked it. It was corn rock! Glad you are resting up????
?. I bought the corn beef from an irish restaurant nearby. Believe me, if I had made it myself I would have ended up being a corn rock twin with you! ??☘
Glad to hear you’re getting some much-deserved R&R today, perfumelover67! Hope you have a nice St. Paddy’s day tomorrow, frag-pal! ???????☘?????? (Hey, they’re green, so where I come from, they count!) ??
Thank you ElleBe! Trying to regain some energy this weekend. You too have a great St. Patrick’s day! ??☘?????????????????
Good to read everyone’s reports. My SOTD has been Elixir des Merveilles. Beautiful. Unfortunately Mom was not at all well today. I had to call an ambulance and we’re still in the ER waiting for a variety of test results and a diagnosis. It’s going to be a long night.
Warm thoughts for you and your mother. I hope it all resolves quickly and well. ?
I’m so sorry to hear it! I hope she’s feeling better soon!
So sorry to read this. Sending positive thoughts and well wishes to your mom, and a big hug.
Oh no! Hope your mom recovers soon. Sending healing vibes and hugs to you both.
Hope your mother will be well taken care of, Calypso, and that you can get some rest soon.
Oh no! You have had a rough time lately Calypso. Best wishes for your mom!
Sending healing energy your mom’s way and hugs to you.
So sorry about your mom, sending supportive hugs.
Hope your mom’s ok.
Oh no. Do report back when you can!
Holy Moly!!!
After waiting to buy a bottle of Amouage Beloved for years, my eBay partial bottle arrived yesterday. I had planned to give it to DH to give to me for my birthday in 2 months but immediately caved and opened it. AGGGHH!!!! It’s so amazing you guys! The bottle is much more beautiful and opulent than I would have guessed. The heft and shape is perrrfect. The scent is sooooo strong and beautiful. It is the same but different from my decant which had evaporated into an extrait with extreme density. This will absolutely be my most favorite (Beloved!) bottle in my collection. It is somehow even more special because it is only half full. I love partial bottles. I’m odd like that. I much prefer them to the look of a new bottle.
I am blissed out!
Blissed out is one of the best ways to be!
Haha awww I love this post 🙂 enjoy the bottle!
Nice. I’m odd like you in liking partial bottles!
I like the idea of a lucky green perfume, but I don’t think I have one.
Spent much of yesterday traveling. Took the round about way home from picking my daughter up from college and the bigs and I stopped to visit with my granny. My son and I saw her last fall and I was worried that she may not remember my visit, but she does.☺️ She’s a little fuzzy on the details because she thinks my son lives in the hotel where we stayed overnight. Lol. I’ll cut her some slack though because she will be 93 this summer.
Yesterday’s SotD was Reminiscence Musc. Today will be Eau Premiere.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to those that celebrate!?
Eau Premiere – yes! ?
Wow, 93! I’m glad she remembers your last visit 🙂
Love the photo. I got engaged in Dublin and walked around that park right afterwards with my (now) husband.
Wore Fiori di Capri for the first time in a while yesterday. The sister liked it…which is high praise because, to her, most everything except Chanel No. 5 is “bug spray”.
We had a lovely dinner downtown in one of our favorite Malaysian places. I was headachey hungry, so I was stuffed to the gills by the time I left and ready to just fall asleep on one of the banquettes…. Alas, we had to take the subway home.
Anyone know where they have Chanel 1957? Saks doesn’t have it yet.
It’s on the Chanel site. Unfortunately, you’d have to order it blindly, but they do take fragrance returns– the caveat being you must do so within 14 days of receipt.
Oh I don’t want to buy! Just to sniff. I’m not allowed to buy. ?
The flagship store in Manhattan has it (or so I am told)
What chocolatemarzipan said. I only tried it on paper when it first came out and it was meh.
Sláinte, NSTers!
I sprayed on Hanae Mori this morning, to make sure my decision to put the sample in the give-away pile some time back was the right one. Yep. I’ll try to find something greener and luckier for the afternoon!
Better than regretting it later!
Eau de Lierre
(and sampling my very inexpensive twenty dollar two ounce bottle of Nikki de Saint Phalle before packaging it up as one of my birthday presents for next month….
four Marzipans= four new bottles…cazaubon would be proud of me-LOL! and I am NOT needing to report to Donatella as per Robin)
Oh, how do you like the current Niki? I loved it so when I wore it many years ago.
Happy Anticipatory Birthday!
mine is vintage. One of those zodiac bottles that I got from fragrancenet. It has transported me back to the mid 1980s which was when I wore it. Funny thing is , it smells as I remember but yet it is not what I was expecting…I know this doesn’t make any sense…but it’s definitely a chypre and I don’t remember it being a chypre…it seemed fresher and greener back then…maybe because the topnotes have disappeared? Nonetheless I enjoyed the sampling and will definitely be wearing it but I think I might just save it for the cold weather.
and thanks for the birthday wishes…it’s the end of next month but I took advantage of coupons and sales ahead of time 🙂
Good to know, thanks! I also bought a zodiac bottle from fragrancenet and it wasn’t exactly as I remembered, either. I was looking forward to that sharp greenish hit of chrysanthemum that I loved so much from the 80s, but didn’t find it in this bottle. I thought maybe my nose or my memory was wonky… Anyway, I agree that this will be enjoyable even if not quite the same as it was thirty-odd years (gulp!) ago.
Well done!! 🙂
I’m wearing lys 41 today and smelling absolutely heavenly.
So, like many others on NST I am dealing with a ton of job stress, including actually having to do another person’s job. Which as a teacher is hard, because I can’t physically be in two classrooms at once. I am getting paid extra, so yesterday I broke my no-buy for some aromatherapy. A full bottle of Dzongkha is on its way, because my decant is almost gone and it’s keeping me sane right now. I also ordered a travel spray of Arielle Shoshana, because I needed the smell of optimism in a bottle. I barely have time to brush my teeth, but I can carry a bubble of beauty with me everywhere.
Have a great Sunday!
Bubble of beauty, I like that!??
Great scent choices! I hope you get reinforcements at work soon!
Optimism in a bottle <3 high praise! Hope you don’t have to go through much more of this stress.
I’m in Memo Italian Leather this morning. If I’d remembered that today is St. Patrick’s Day I might have gone with something else (Chanel 19, or maybe Irish Leather), but I didn’t … and Italian Leather has a lovely tomato leaf note that’s a little bit of green. Later on I will be wearing Eau de Gardening – it’s an absolutely gorgeous morning here, headed to the mid- to high-60s, and the back yard is calling to me. Time to find out what our recent winter weather did to a few more-tender plants out there, and I love watching the hardier ones come back to life in the spring. But first: COFFEE. ☕️
I went with Memo Irish Leather – semi twins!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I love green fragrances, and today I’ll wear Papillon’s Dryad, though it was a difficult choice among my collection: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/03/17/scent-sample-sunday-the-wearin-o-the-green/.
Twins with you today!
And I love green perfumes, including many of your favorites. I need a bottle of No. 19 badly. ?
Happy St Patrick’s Day to all! I making up for yesterday’s lack of scent with Salomé today. I’m smelling like I have “notions,” as the Irish would say!
Indeed!
Hello NST
I participated on Friday in Olivier Cresp’s Eau d”Issey Absolue.
Since then I’ve been trying out a bunch of samples from ELDO.
The sample pack does not contain my lemming of Fils de Dieu, but I’m getting a feel for the brand. So far, I only like Fat Electrician and Like This, but not enough to buy a full bottle. In honor of the Irish, I may put on some Silences later. For all those struggling with work issues, my brother gave me good advice: To stop wasting energy on resentment. Having said that, if anybody needs to vent here, I’ll be a very sympathetic and empathetic listener!
Like This is an odd one but I like it. I think Une Amourette is my favorite from ELDO 😀
Thank you for the good advice, Amyitis, resentment and anger don’t usually hurt anyone but ourselves. The older I am the easier it is to think that people are going to do what they are going to do, I can’t very likely change that, but I can change my response to something that is positive for me.
Exactly! We have no control over someone else’s response, only our own.
Not always sure how much control I have over my own! ?
I’m there with you, Amy 😉
I should have read this before I decided it was a good idea to talk to my store manager tonight. Ugh…
I’m more beaten down and frustrated than resentful and angry, but still, it was not my best idea.
SotD = Eau de Guerlain
Inspired my Eschmeling’s quest for cologne, I’m green and delicious with a hint of mint in Eau de Guerlain. It is a great cologne. doesn’t smell like 4711, I recommend it to everyone. I adore 4711 btw but know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
One friend can’t stand 4711 because her mother used it to clean her hands, kind of like hand sanitizer today, way back when she was a little girl.
I’m going to spend time outside today. We are in the path of the painted lady migration in southern California. Sometimes hundreds of butterflies go by in a few minutes. It’s magical! And my lawn is overproducing dandelions, so I’ll pull them up and enjoy their yellow pollen and green leaf smell along with the scents of dirt and sweat today.
Have a wonderful day, NSTers. You smell fantastic.
I hope you get a good showing of butterflies! Glad my search inspired your SOTD!
I was thinking Amouage Epic today due to the bottle being green but Ubar was shouting my name. Off to make my corned beef.
Just opened a fresh sample vial of Diptyque from a recent Barneys GWP. One of my longtime loves! Still great for those green notes with the tart berry/currant.
Planning a very late lunch/early dinner of corned beef and a Guinness at a local bar (not a mob scene, just a low-key neighborhood place!) and then a quiet night in to catchup on household tasks and get ready for the week ahead.
Happy St. Patrick’s to all who are marking it!
As a child I firmly believed for that the corn beef and cabbage boiled dinner – which we had on New Year’s Day not St. Patrick’s – was a reminder of why our ancestors left Ireland. ?
The truth, obviously, is a much different story.
Today it stopped raining mid-morning and we had a mostly sunny afternoon, yay! TOMK and I went to see the permanent M. C. Escher exhibition at the Lange Voorhout palace. I have a good Escher book at home but it was great to see the originals.
https://www.escherinhetpaleis.nl/?lang=en
Afterwards a stroll through that part of town and lunch at an Italian restaurant. We bailed on the St. Patrick’s celebrations (as we always do). Then TOMK went back home and I stayed on the tram a few stops further to Scheveningen and just walked along the beach, stopping to watch the tumbling waves pushing seafoam up on the sand, or the kite-surfers and surfers being buffeted about, or just staring out to sea in the cold wind and the sun.
SOTD was one of yesterday’s FB buys, “Encens Flamboyant” by Annouk Goutal.
SOTD is Bergamote Soleil, which I got a decant off a week or so ago and had not yet tried, and which fits my search for fleeting scents – except it’s actually fairly solid for a citrus scent on me!
An Irish friend of mine told a very good joke at the St. Patricks Day party we went to yesterday (everyone who attends is supposed to bring a song, poem, joke, story etc.) – and I’m dying to retell it to somebody (sadly, it’s too R-rated for kids), so I will have to see if my neighbor is home later tonight. 🙂
Had to be up early to play at church this morning so I chose Twilly because I know how much to spray, I have another cold and can’t smell much! Was going through spring and green perfumes today and found my mini of Jacomo Silences, so I have a little of that on now. It is GREEN.
In Tresor today. Pretty floral-powder combo. I am glad I had something nice to sniff today while dealing with co-worker issues. Not fun.
I thought of wearing one of my “green” perfumes today but totally forgot in the morning and went with Russkaya Kozha (I forgot to wear something green as well). So later in the day I had compensate by preparing Irish Coffee (though, since I didn’t have an Irish whiskey I had to go with Bowmote). It was delicious.
I have several green scents are are very much appreciated in my collection, but I am not sure if any of them are lucky. I’ll have to pay more attention when I wear them.?? Favorite greens are: Prescriptives Calys, No. 19, vintage Ivoire, Timbutku, Wrappings, Silences, and Fat Electrician. Pretty sure I am forgetting some.
Busy weekend! SOTD = Timbuktu, from the sample stash.
I probably shouldn’t post when I am really fatigued. Oh the typos! C’mon spellcheck, you ought to know “Calyx” by now!
Gave my parents a break this weekend. The only scented thing I put on was Crabtree & Evelyn Lavender Hand Therapy Saturday night.
