Happy Almost-Friday! PSA: the swapmeet will be coming up on Saturday, 23 March. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Aftelier Candide again.
Reminder: on 3/8, we'll celebrate International Women's Day. Wear a fragrance that honors the holiday in whatever way you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Parle Moi Flavia Vanilla
Pleine Lune Tea
Warm soft gray cashmere sweater
I see we are on the same vanilla comfort wavelength. 🙂
Can I borrow your sweater?
Arte Profumi Sucre Noir – needed some vanilla comfort this morning.
Vanilla twins
I’m with you, cazaubon <3 my thoughts exactly! Vanilla triplets.
Memo Italian Leather by Alienor Massenet. A leather-vanilla scent with a herbal opening. Nice, but not my cup of tea.
I really like smelling that one, but not wearing it – maybe good for husband tho.
There’s a community project – spritz (in the air, on a scarf, or a paper strip) a perfume that you like smelling, but not wearing.
It smells pretty masculine on me. But besides that there is something that it doesn’t make it appealing.
I think you smell great!
Thanks! ?
Money saved! ?
So happy about it! ?
I’m wearing Vie de Château (the Eau fraîche) by Patricia de Nicolaï, one of my perfume heroes. It’s an unusual scent that I can’t quite describe, it reminds me of hay, tobacco and brown sugar.
Tea is MF Parzifal.
Hay, tobacco and brown sugar sounds lovely to me – I may have to check that one out!
Love that one, and wish they still made the light version. And wish I’d bought it when I could have.
I could send you a decant very easily and with great pleasure.
Oh, thank you so much but it is not necessary…it is more just moaning over a lost opportunity 😉
I hate those myself. I got so many Nicolaïs in the early years of my foraging for perfume. No regrets, they are part of my most worn fragrances.
The notes sound lovely – is it masculine to your nose, though? And does it have any watery notes? I was super excited about weekend in normandy by Nicolai and found it way too calone-y.
The Vie de Château I own is no longer made and I haven’t tried the new one, so I can’t answer your question really.
I find this Eau fraîche perfectly unisex but I own and wear a fair number of traditionally masculine fragrances, so you might find the current Vie de Château too masculine. I don’t get any watery notes, but then I don’t get any in Weekend à Deauville either.
Staying cozy in DSH Fou d’Opium
Nice!
What is Fou d’Opium like?
4160 Tuesdays Over The Chocolate Shop (the original formula from years ago) by Sarah McCartney for me today, a honey rich, pastry like chocolate gourmand.
YUM, why don’t I have that one?
Oh that sounds wonderful!
That description made me drool. ?
I chose Dior Homme today, one of my favorite cool-weather scents. Right now the iris in it is coming to the end of its “cardboard” stage, and in about 5 minutes it will morph into the warm, cuddly fragrance I love so much.
Ooh, Dior Mmmmmm. Love that one.
You smell amazing. ☺
Thanks BobH! I may have to steal your “Dior Mmmmm” nickname for it. 😉
E. Coudray Jacinthe et Rose.
So pretty.
This one is lovely, you smell great.
Very pretty!
I don’t usually follow the Community Project during the week – heck, I don’t often do on on Friday unless the theme is very vague like “Wear something summery” – but this week I have hewed to the CP with a week of Cuir de Lancome.
Fab.
Yes! EXCELLENT!
AG Songes- I don’t usually wear this in the winter but it’s cheering me up nicely today.
You smell great, I love Songes in all seasons although it does bloom in summer!
you smell beautiful! This one shocked me at first, I read raving reviews but I smelled tacos. But, I’ve come to love it & it transports me to a beautiful tropical garden. It’s on my list if I need more BWF.
Songes is a lovely BWF!
Sel de Vetiver – Celine Ellena. Since hearing that Luca Turin called this “salty iris”, that is what I smell.
I adore Sel de Vetiver, it’s so lovely. 🙂
Ooooo I love this one. Now that I know it’s by a woman, it may become my Friday scent!
No SOTD yet. About to walk my dogs now that it isn’t brutally cold out. Has anyone here tried Everlane shoes? I am thinking about the Day Glove model, but I like to have a lot of arch support and would rather not go to the trouble of ordering and then returning if it doesn’t have any.
I have tried and returned lots of them. I have big feet though. A friend of mine loves all of hers, so ya never know.
Wearing Boyfriend today. Totally against the CP, but my other boyfriend, the breathing human man, is back to work today after his bizarre illness. They never found out for sure what it was, but whatever they prescribed him worked.
I’m gonna celebrate International Women’s Day by going out with my sister. I think the plan is margaritas and Captain Marvel.
Woot woot! Margaritas and Captain Marvel sounds great!
I used to love Boyfriend back in the day. You smell great! How do you find it?
I love it, it’s a nice and easy comfort scent for me, but not so sweet and overwhelming that I can’t wear it to work. I’ll miss it when it’s gone, apparently they do still make it but it’s reformulated? Haven’t tried the new version.
It’s BACK and it ‘s literally just as good! Kate Walsh bought the rights and launched it as an Internet brand!
https://boyfriendperfume.com
Is it? That’s a relief, then. I guess I don’t have to worry about conserving it then 😀
Phew! Happy to hear about the breathing human man’s improvements!
Hurray! Glad to hear that IRL boyfriend is feeling much better!
Wearing Caron’s Fleur de Rocaille, in the mood for yellow flowers today. Happy almost Friday! 🙂
I haven’t smelled Fleur de Rocaille (yet), but when I see the name I always think of the movie Scent of a Woman and the lovely tango scene. Happy almost Friday back!
I loved that movie, should watch it again. 🙂
donna karan liquid cashmere white
I have a spray sample, I really like sprayers that let you spray little sprays, this is one.
If you don’t mind musk and you really like osmanthus, this could be a nice no-brainer spring scent when you don’t want to think too much about what to wear.
Where are you Spring??! I’m loosing my patience!
I know the Liquid Cashmeres are not well regarded, but when I started reading about perfume I saw the love for Black Cashmere and bought Liquid Cashmere Black by mistake. However, it is kind of a nice, inoffensive, no-brainer scent and I kind of like the cough syrup cherry in the beginning :). I’ve actuaIly since bought things that I love way less than this, though I have a new rule of gifting an unloved perfume whenever I buy a new one.
I’ve smelled the donna Karan Black Cashmere and have the same impression – I like your in and out policy!
I am just about at the end of my rope too. It is way too cold here!
Agreeing with Robin. Last year from late February to mid-March, we (Mom, Dad and I) were in Florida. It was cold when we got back home, but we’d had a break from it for nearly three weeks. This winter has been tough. I’ve been trying to stay in touch with friends and keep my mind active. Not all my coping mechanisms are the most healthy choices, but I’ve been hanging in there.
I have an in person interview today. Haven’t had one in long time, usually just Skype or phone.
Think I’ll do box of eels edp.
Wish me luck!!!
Good luck! You smell like someone who can get the job done!
Good luck!
I hope you get it if you want it. I’ve recently learned a hard lesson in my professional life, which is “Be careful what you wish for, because you may just get it.” The best thing is to consider very carefully BEFOREHAND what impact the job will have on your life re time commuting, work hours and general stress. I always learn my lessons the hard way. I hope people here are better at learning vicariously!
I’m with you – I’ve been wanting, for years, to get better pay and more job security with the job I already do, now it’s in the offering but comes with a much larger work load that will push me well past full-time – not what I am looking for right now.
This is exactly what happened to me, for what it’s worth.
I compared myself to other people who seemed to have a really smooth ride (and I really WORKED for my salary), so I pushed. Ended up with 1 1/2 full time people’s work as well as my previous load. I am trying to come to terms with my own stupidity. Am trying to learn the lesson so that I can move on. The story of my life!
If I was able to learn vicariously, I’m sure I would have less grey hair and wrinkles, oh.. and more money!?
Me too! Good luck with your weekend!
Good luck!
Good luck!
Good luck apsara!
Good luck!
Good luck, hope it went well
Good luck! You smell strong and suave!
Best of luck on the interview! ? I hope it went well for you.
Sotd is Angèlique Noire created by Daniela Andrier.
Would love to have a bottle of this (big surprise, I know?!)
You smell great! I have a travel spray of it (20 ml)- much more affordable than a FB. Just saying…
Thank you! I’ve never seen a travel size in this collection. Did you get it in Europe?
I got it from a lady who flies to Paris on regular basis. She also has a shop in eBay. I believe it is called shopfranceinc. If interested e-mail me at lasto4ka5 in the land of gee male and I will give you her contact info.
I am feeling rather uninspired lately perfume-wise, and have been going commando a lot. The FM Iris hand cream brings me joy though. I use it sparingy at work, and its smooth rooty scent hasn’t failed yet to make me inhale deeply and relaaaax while I click-clack away trying to meet deadlines 🙂
I bet when you least expect it, something will spark the inspiration again.
When I am on vacation I am often commando, and then likewise I notice body products more! Enjoy your iris 🙂
Better to go commando rather than spray or dab a perfume that annoys you all day. That’s like having an itch you can’t scratch.
SOTD is Neela Vermeire Trayee. I’m doing pretty well with my NV project this week; so far, I have worn Bombay Bling, Ashoka, and now Trayee. Fell off the wagon one day when I got diverted by new samples 🙂
Where is the SUN, I ask??? Seems like endless rain here. Our community rain gauge reads 54″ so far this winter. Not a record, but pretty high.
You smell great! I’ll see if I can figure out a way to send you some sun from NM! 🙂
54 inches of rain? Wow! What is the “normal” amount you would get?
Today I spritzed on Andrea Maack Sharp. I get a lot of vanilla and somehow something smells a bit like ink, but in a good way.
I like that one. On me there’s something ashy up top before it morphs into heavy vanilla and orange blossom.
I am wearing my British colors today to celebrate World Book Day (first Thursday of March); most other countries celebrate this on April 23!
SOTD = Mad et Len Petit Papiers
I first encountered this from a decant from a generous NSTer. One wear and I was stalking LuckyScent for bottle availability. It is exclusive to LuckyScent as this perfume was made to commemorate its 15th Anniversary. On me, it is spicy smoked cinnamon benzoin de-fanged patchouli goodness. I don’t smell paper but I am associating it to World Book Day due to the name! As far as connection to women, Mad et Len was founded by a husband and wife team and the brand name is a take on Madeleine.
Oh! You smell great!
That’s interesting about the name. I never conected it, just thought it was another French word I couldn’t pronounce ?
I had a similar idea… I figured it was an abbreviation or idiom in French that I didn’t get.
I’m in Masque Milano Tango by Cecile Zarokian. It’s especially a favorite on a chilly day like today with its spices, resins, and jasmine. We’re getting what I hope is the last snow of the season. Oh, and I just saw on Instagram that MM just posted details of their next perfume. Can’t wait to try it!
I’ve been meaning to ask if anyone has used Lush American Cream or Avocado Wash shower gels? If love your thoughts on the formula, performance and scents? I’ve smelled them both in the bottle when I quickly popped into a Lush store a few weeks ago, but some of their shower gels smell different when you’re actually using them. I do have a little bit of American Cream perfume in a decant, so I’m familiar with it that way.
Haven’t tried the Lush, but if you want something avocado, I can recommend Giovanni 2Chic avocado & olive oil body wash. It’s at Whole Foods or cheaper online at Vitacost. Very creamy & moisturizing–at first I thought the fragrance was a little too intense, but I got over it.
Thanks, I’ll check that out next time I’m at Whole Foods. Right now I’m mainly craving a Lush purchase! ?
??? “I’m mainly craving a Lush purchase.” Congratulations, addict ???
You’ve done better than I have in smelling new shower gel scents at Lush. Then again, I still have a few shower gels waiting for their turn to be used.
In Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre. The nose isn’t a female, but brand creator is. It’s a little too rooty/carroty for me but will do for the day!
I have not yet found any fragrance “too rooty” but never say never!
I’m sure this is not too rooty for any people but definitely is for me! I love iris, but I don’t like it if it’s carroty or turnipy which this is to me.
California Reverie for me today. Smells like spring 🙂
Smelling like spring is definitely a good thing!
Yaaaay upcoming swapmeet! It’ll be my one chance to get new ‘fumes during my no-buy! (I shouldn’t really say that. I’ve done some private swaps in between, and have also been the recipient of lots of generosity, both in the context of the freebiemeet and independently. I haven’t wanted for new scents.)
Anyway, the conclusion of my no-buy, which is linked to health goals, once again feels achievable! I fell off the wagon for two months, because of the holidays and subsequent hopelessness at my own indiscipline, but things are going better now.
This is great because I polished off my sample of DSH Vanille Botanique this morning and now I want more of it. Have any of you tried both the VDP and EDP formulations of DSH scents? Thoughts? I got some Keni VDP on my duvet cover yesterday and now there are unsightly IPM stains on it 🙁
Email me if you need health goals support. I am also attempting to be healthier in a number of ways!
I strongly prefer her EDPs to VdP. The VdP is very oily and most that I’ve tried don’t have good longevity. I get maybe 2 or 3 hours wear of Eau Cerise VdP.
❤
Good to hear that you are feeling better about your health and wellness goals! I so understand that… it’s been far too long since I have worked out with my free weights. When life explodes in a Mess of Crazy, it’s easy to let that slide.
Late to this!
1) SOTD: Delacourte’s Florentina mixed with Dovana. This is perfect- a very clean, soapy, floral musk. i was complemented at work and by a baby on the bus. So these are now on the full bottle list- and I may pump for my birthday next month.
2) My final project in Data Systems design is now completed. It has been a ride! Will be doing the presentation, final clean up of the paper and then the grad certificate. A Msc would just be another year..but I am really eager to put this knowledge to work!
Congrats to you on finishing your final project!!
Re # 2: Congratulations
Re # 1: At a quick glance, I saw “baby” “bottle” and “pump” and thought you were talking about something *completely* different. Then I read through it more slowly and carefully. lol But I’m glad you like that combination of fragrances.
I had a scent lined up for the CP but spritzed Yves Rocher Folies de saisons Delires d’Automne (phwu) instead. The bright, fresh ginger along with the resins and cinnamon make it smell like coca-cola in the drydown.
Wow, your SOTD is quite the mouthful to say!
It is isn’t it 🙂
Still hanging with women perfumers wearing SSS Tabac Aurea, an all around, up and down perfect scent!
Here are some beautiful women aging gracefully for national Women’s Day. Very timely!
https://youtu.be/KPrTTeyI3fs
I loved this! Some perfume spotted at 4:10, no idea what it is. I am of my time I guess, and I am a mess with routines, it’s something I’d really like to change.
This is in Riverdale, but sure technically the Bronx, yes.
Oh, good eyes Coin-op! I thing the bottle on the left is a Serge Lutens, not sure about the other…
Great video, Deva! I recognized some L’Oreal lipsticks on a dresser.
I’m back from getting fillings at the dentist. This is looking like it will be the Year of the Dentist for me.
Sotd is Tabbaco Vanille, which I just put on so I could match it up with Chrissie Hynde for the cp. I think I will take a catnap now.
I like that pairing!
And sorry about your Year of the Dentist…doubt that was your first choice.
It ranks up there with the Year of car repairs, lol!
Thank you, I had a harder time doing pairings than I thought I would this week.
I’m going to the dentist in the near future. I’m hoping it will be uneventful.
“The Year of Car Repairs” sounds like it was very aggravating. ☹
Twins with the Year of the Dentist. I had my cleaning last week, next week they are fixing a teeeny chip on my front tooth (it was from a delicious home made breadstick which had fennel seeds baked in it. I bit down on the seed and felt my tooth protest).
Then I have an appointment with a specialist in a month for a consult. I’m a bit afraid because I consider my dentist one of the best in town.
Petite Chérie by AG today, this was my signature scent before the rabbit hole. Now i find it a bit …. blah? At least its unobtrusive and smells a bit like summer…
Just 3 workdays in my old job! I think i earned a 2months sabbatical after 30years of continuous work.
Was wearing Jo malone, French lime Blossom today, switched to vintage Shalimar edp this evening. My little girl said ; “You smell like custard mummy, and that’s the best smell ever!”.
Compliments from kids are the best!
Very nice!
Nice! You smell great!
?
Awwwwww! That’s adorable!
Taking a break from wearing female perfumers because I remembered that Parfum de Therese exists, and whenever that happens I pretty much have no choice but to wear it.
Hey, it’s in honor of a woman, right? That’s my rationale for my own choice today (see below). I agree with you–i’t’s always a good time to wear that one!
Just a brief stop-in here on a break between classes. I’m wearing Caterina de’ Medici in honor of a powerful and apparently not-so-nice woman. Floral and light but beautiful, airy, pretty, feminine.
Calypso, don’t forget to email me about the Areej le Dore! No rush if you’re busy. I just don’t want you to forget that I have that for you.
I used to own a decant of Caterina di Medici and remember enjoying it.
Wearing Providence Perfumes Osmanthus Oolong, which is probably my favorite tea, floral and leather perfume. The apricot aspect of Osmanthus is particularly well done in this fragrance.
Commando after a morning doing taxes has given me a headache – all that under-my-breath swearing went to my head, apparently! Me thinks Chanel 5 for later. Yay for the swap meet! I’m ready for some swappin’
SOTD- Chanel Coco, the drydown is beyond gorgeous and lasts for ages. My bottle is from 2013, the current formulation is meh and I often wonder how the vintage one smells.
In the morning — tried a sample of Joy Eau de Parfum. The Perfume Guide tells me that this used to be called Eau de Joy and was always a different thing from Joy parfum. However, they say, it’s very nice in its own way. I agree. 🙂
In the afternoon — got my package of various 7 Virtues perfumes from Rayleigh Blue. 🙂 (Thank you!) I’m trying Middle East Peace, which I like very much. It definitely doesn’t have that “whoosh of tartness” (paraphrasing) that Rayleigh Blue likes in her grapefruit and related-to-grapefruit citrus perfumes. But I’m good with softer, sweeter citrusy scents. 🙂
Wearing a spritz of Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche. It really is a fresher Terre that is deceptively potent.
Hoping to summon spring by wearing SSS Bees Bliss.
Oh that sounds perfect!
Wearing another incense scent today to warm up. It seems to be working! ?
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Reve d’Ossian EdP, from the sample stash. I get a decent whiff of vanilla in this along with the incense.
Wearing several sprays of Jolie Madam edt tonight. I have a humungo bottle and should wear it more often.
It was a crazy, super-busy week. I’ve been helping train a few co-op students (from the local University). They are incredibly bright and have been a joy to work with. But I’m very thankful that today is my Friday as we had about 4 inches of snow this morning! Where is Spring? Asking for a friend..
Lol at asking for a friend ?
Enjoy your early Friday. Tomorrow will be my monday! I heard a bird this morning, so spring has to be on it’s way. Although, it was only one bird…
That’s where ‘my bird’ went; I was wondering. I heard a bird chirping like crazy one morning a few weeks ago; it sounded like a robin (with that unmistakable happy chirp). Haven’t heard it since!
We’ve been putting out suet for the birds, and it’s been extremely popular. I expect they need a good number of calories to stay warm.
Habanita (EDP) because of its history – the Roaring Twenties and flappers (“who danced, drank, smoked and voted” – Wikipedia).
Wrong day! 😆
