Happy Hump Day and happy World Day of Social Justice. What fragrance are you wearing?
It's snowing, and I slept late. I'm going to pick a perfume from what you all are wearing.
Reminder: on 2/22 we'll celebrate Margarita Day. Wear a fragrance with lime or salt or both.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Shalimar Vanilla by way of Mexico. š
24 degrees and rising today, much better than yesterday.
Stay warm and smell good. LOL!
mmmmmm, vanilla! š
Vanilla is pretty much always the answer. š
You smell fab!
It’s true!
Atelier Pacific Lime, from a newly acquired sample. I was in Sephora on Monday and was surprised to find my store had it, so of course I had to ask for a free sample. Lime + coconuts, so Iām smelling all tropical on yet another snowy day.
Iāve felt the coldness of my winter. I never thought it would ever go…?
If it ever stops snowing, I will drive to my big Sephora and check this out. Keep on a rockin Madtowngirl ???
It has to stop snowing eventually, right?! Spring is less than a month away!???
When I was on my way to Sephora the other day, I passed a woman driving in her BMW convertible with the top…down. (It was 18 degrees at the time?) It kinda made my day, lol.
I love that. We used to put the top down and blast the heat in my sisterās convertible. (But we did at about 40 degrees, not 18).
you put the lime in the coconut and shake it all up!
sounds like you smell delicious š
Ha! Now I have a new ear worm.??
So far itās a solid ālike.ā I would love to smell it in warm weather.
Here you go… https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=55&v=Kz8_ZePCTqM
Ha! Thatās great! Never heard it before but quite sure itās in my head forever. ?
Love this song…thanks madtowngirl.
It sounds lovely! It’s too bad it’s just a solid “like,” but it sounds exciting!
Wearing PdN Odalisque, thanks to the lovely 50_Roses. This is sooooo good. I’m surprised to read the reviews that say that it’s tame, since it’s a floral powerhouse on me with an edge that isn’t clean. Maybe I’m wearing an older formulation? This is REAL perfume, y’all!
You smell great! Odalisque was in first order of samples, I loved it – I got a lot of LOTV I think, Iāll have to polish off my sample before it evaporates!
That one is a proper Perfume, isn’t it? I didn’t find it tame, but maybe tamer than the 80s powerhouse florals it reminded me of (I think Giorgio came to mind).
Yep, it gets comparisons to, and reminded me of Giorgio.
You smell great!
I don’t see it mentioned here that often.
Lagerfeldās Chloe
A few more days of this homemade chai and then I am back to making my own tea/coffee in the morning.
Ltsg, the other day I cut through N-M and discovered they were having a Guerlain pop-up event. The only fragrances I saw were the Mon Guerlains, which I didn’t bother trying. BUT they also had all the Rouge G customizable lipsticks. I find the case too heavy to carry around, but I did succumb to a purchase to keep at home. Oy.
You canāt go wrong with a good lippy!
What color did you get?
No 45, warmer than I usually go.
I loved Chloe for a long time. Kitchen sink floral!
Robin, what do you think of Upton’s organic Colombian breakfast–does it have a different flavor profile from traditional English breakfasts?
Upton just sent an email announcing South St breakfast blend, which I’ll try the next time I order.
L’Attesa today, trying to brighten yet another day of snow now & rain this afternoon. Ugh.
Yes, it’s smoother, less tannins — very good and does have plenty of flavor, but less “hearty” than some English or Irish breakfast blends, although it’s also not a cut-tear-curl like most of those so you would not expect it to taste as strong. I will definitely reorder that one and the Organic English Breakfast.
I want to try the Colombian Tippy Black Tea next. I did see the South Street email but am trying to stick with organic for my breakfast teas.
Less tannins! Ok, I’ll have to try that.
The Colombian teas Iāve tried so far have all been surprisingly good! Working through some Bitaco Mist Forest naturally flavored green.
Also if yāall have recommendations for a good pre-chingming, my SOās favorite was discontinued and heās looking for a new go-to.
I don’t have a specific recommendation, but Tea Trekker is a great site if you want to know exactly where and when your tea was picked, and they have a pretty good selection. By “discontinued” I’m assuming you mean the particular harvest he liked sold out? In which case he’ll have the same problem there — if it’s a really great harvest year for that particular location, the stock will go quickly.
I think it was a combo of the harvest and style he liked. Thank you for the tip, will check out Tea Trekker!
Not feeling Magaritaville today. We’re expecting another snow/sleet storm tonight and it’s cold and dreary today. SOTD is Bottega Veneta.
Smelling great, Petunia!
?
Yum. You smell fab!
Thanks E! ?
YUM! Bottega Veneta is fantastic in all 4 seasons.
I am in Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet – lemon, lime and pepper (but no salt).
Oh, I love that one. You smell great today!
You can’t go wrong with this classic.
I am wearing Nahema layered with some perfumed oil that I made mixing one drop of Portrait of a lady edt with almond oil, loving it.
Our winter continues, another snow storm coming our way.
Ooooh, that sounds nice!
Oh, I bet you smell great. I love Nahema. May try layering it with a spray of POAL.
POAL should have been sold in a stoppered bottle. I like your idea of diluting and layering it. I always wish I could reduce the patchouli to about 1% of the current level.
The POAL Hair and Body oil does just that. The raspberry note is more pronounced, the rose is still pretty and there is much less patchouli. It does a nice job moisturizing as well. Doesnāt come cheap but itās a 200 mL bottle. I have had mine for about 2 years and Itās still going strong.
I had the idea from the oil, I tried it this weekend, didn’t buy it because of the price, this way though I can add the edt as much as I want and worked great.
I will definitely keep that in mind for when my bottle of oil runs out.
Good to know, adanst!
The oil is GORGEOUS, but way too expensive for me….
Nahema is one of my holy grail rose perfumes. Maybe someday!
I’m wearing rose again with Smell Bent Cocoa Rose. One of my favorite Smell Bent scents.
Snow and then wintry mix starting in a couple of hours. Feeling exhausted about this whole mess once again. At least spring is around the corner, I hope….
Wearing Eau de Gaga. I needed something simple, pretty, bright to cheer me up.
Let’s be cheer up twins, I will if you will?????
Deal?
Deal ?! ???????
28 days and 7 hours, we can do it!
We can! I saw many snowdrops flowers in one of my neighbors’ garden this past weekend. So uplifting! Counting every second now for spring arrival! ā³ā°??āļø???
Yes we can!
Eau de Gaga is fantastic! š
Love it! It is a recent discovery thanks to a generous NSTer. I will be wearing it a lot once spring/summer is here!
Awwww this is what I love about the group here on nst. You guys are awesome. Might I add some cute animoticons for more cheer up?
????
Please! Add as many as you want. We might scare winter with all of them! ?ā?āāļø
Spring Is Coming!!
? ????????
Yay! ?ā¤????
And the wintry mix has arrived ? Stay warm!
It is falling so fast and dense! ?. You too stay warm!
It sure is pretty.
It is such a great no-brainer!
Eau de Gaga is such a bargain!
Agree!
Hang in there perfumelover67! Spring is coming soon, and the weather has to get better! ????
Looking forward to it! ??????
Happy Wednesday!
Kind of overcast and snow on the ground so a lot of white and gray out there.
I tested a couple more neroli samples last night: Nicolai Neroli Intense on one wrist and Atelier Grand Neroli on the other. I found there is a lot of spice/wood in Grand Neroli which for me seems to really flatten the actual neroli smell. In comparison Neroli Intense is a beautiful full and slightly heavy pure neroli, clear as a bell. Very beautiful. When Iām done with my bottle of Cap I will be sure to get NI.
I’ve never given much thought to how I feel about neroli, but now I really want to smell Neroli Intense!?
Nice description.
Also I opened the Cap (very elegant box) this morning in a sweet little new perfume ritual. You know what Iām talking about! Smells quite different sprayed. Iām getting a really gorgeous salt note that didnāt show up with dabber testing. Many years ago Ilived in Marseilles and the smell of Cap is bringing back memories.
And that’s my pick: just put on PdN Cap Neroli š
Haha excellent! ?
Oh, good to hear your comparison. My little bottle of NI is 2/3 gone in less than a month already? I was thinking about trying some others in the hope of finding something with better longevity, but that I like as much as NI. So far, my SOTD isn’t quite cutting it (it’s nice, though).
Nope NI is really the best in my opinion. My benchmark was Yves Rocher Neroli (which is still a gorgeous non sweet natural neroli) but NI far surpasses it. I noticed that the sprayer on my Cap Neroli bottle dispenses a hefty amount and a bunch of it misses my arm. So more careful spraying and some on my scarf might slow down bottle drainage.
I’ve taken to spraying my hair, so that helps some. Ha! I did a few of those nozzle-not-aligned-with-target sprays, so I’m extra careful now, too.
Good morning all and what a beautiful image, Robin!
I am in Cedre Sambac today. No snow here but lots and lots of rain.
Have a nice week everyone!
You smell good!
Thank you KellyC!
Snow day (later) so working from home. My excuse: I have 2 calls later tonight and didnāt want the commute home hassle.
SOTD = MPG Ambre Precieux EDT
I am as far away from the Margaritalville project as Pluto is from the sun. Anyway, itās a great perfume. And the gaudy red bottle and jewel top is the original original red bottle…the ones that came out last year were just IT trending.
woot woot for snow day! enjoy being cozy š
Such a great amber! I love the lavender in the opening.
Nice that you can work from home and avoid any commuting hassles, (or woes?).
You smell beautiful. AP is one of my favorite ambers.
That’s a nice one. It reminds me a lot of the sadly discontinue Ambre and Santal from L’occitane.
Good call on just staying home today! Mr. Jalapeno came home 3 hours early today due to deteriorating weather.
I did concede to some citrus but have yet to find my lime perfume. Wearing one of my old favourites in Eau parfumƩe au thƩ vert by Bvlgari. I wish I had brought my bottle to work, I could do with a respray.
Tea is a tisane with mint and lavender. Had too much black salsify last night and my digestive tract is complaining š
I have not yet thought about the CP at all. I will come up with something. I think I have zero points for the last 2 already.
Iris Poudre for our 3 inches of snow. The CEO canceled his classes for today and is sitting in front of the fire, while Taz is decluttering the DVD collection. (I know, I know, we’re at least a decade behind the times, but our internet is too slow to stream stuff. 20 miles away, Blacksburg has one of the fastest internet speeds in Virginia, but here? Noooooooo. Whine complain moan and groan. Off to email my state legislator; the House of Delegates is purportedly considering the Virginia Rural Broadband Expansion bill this week.)
Physical media is still good to have, fast internet or not! You never know when Netflix will decide not to renew the rights to stream your favorite movie, and then poof! Gone. You’re not behind the times, you’re a worried cinephile š
We have fast streaming but it is getting harder to find some movies that way without paying extra…Netflix esp. has seriously trimmed their catalog of old movies. So despite having a TIVO and cable and Amazon Prime and several streaming services, we still get DVDs from the local library!
Kevin told me recently about 2 services that let you stream a limited number of movies (you have to sign up with your library card) so I will pass that info on to anyone who can use it: Kanopy and Hoopla. Neither has a huge collection, but they both have interesting stuff that can be hard to find elsewhere.
Yes! My library has Kanopy and apparently it includes the entire Criterion collection.
And Hoopla has a few things Kanopy doesn’t have, so check that too!
Anyone who is associated with a university should be able to access Kanopy as well – our research librarians always tell the students how cool it is (I don’t think they believe them, though š
This morning I had never heard of Kanopy or Hoopla and now I’m signed up with both. Thank you NST! The selection of quality titles beats the stuffing out of Netflix.
I agree with Dorsey. You are ahead of the curve. By choice I donāt have internet or tv at home. The library has many good movies on dvd and I just use my old Samsung mini flat screen with the dvd slot in the side. For internet I use the WiFi at the library. And I read books! Soon I will be retiring my smartphone to disengage as much as possible from the hive mind.
I’m keeping my smartphone, but I don’t have internet or TV at my house either. Haven’t had cable in ages, but the no internet at home is a recent experiment. Netflix and Amazon Prime allow downloads now, and I go to the library once a week. It makes me think about my watching time instead of just streaming re-runs or binge watching crap. Also getting more reading done.
Wow I didnāt know you could download Netflix movies. Thanks fo that info!
You can’t download everything! But some things. Depends on how it is licensed to Netflix.
You smell great! This one just went on my lengthy “buy when you get a chance” list.
Luuuv Iris Poudre – i should dig mine out, it has drifted into the decant box’s nether regions…
I donated 20 movies and tv series DVDs (some still shrinkwrapped) to the library a few weeks back and I just scratched the surface. I will keep all my Criterion Collection but the rest may be axed. MI may post them as freebies at some point or a swap a la donate to your library when done.
Great idea!
at my last move i gave away lots of DVDs, only kept Star Trek Next Generation and the X-Files
I should have done iris poudre for our snow day today, too. One of my absolute favorites!
It’s snowing here, too. I’m leaning into that, sampling The Fall of the House of Usher from Sixteen92 thanks to the freebiemeet. It doesn’t quite conjure thoughts of gothic madness, but I am enjoying the dark woods/sweet myrrh. It’s like coming inside from a trek in the deep woods and having cookies waiting for you.
The Mr. liked it too, too bad it looks discontinued.
Oh, it’s part of a winter collection and still looks available on the website. Sixteen92 does a lot of seasonal limited editions that I couldn’t possibly keep up with, but then they do a Resurrection event every January where they’ll bring back all of their old offerings. Kind of interesting way to do things, but the quick turn around on the limited editions make it hard to keep up and try everything.
Oh, so it is! I was looking in alphabetical order but the website has the Winter 2018 listed in front of the name and it threw me off.
SotD = Ambre Narguile
Smells warm and comforting,
just right on this coldy, frosty morning.
Enjoy your day, NSTers,
and perhaps think on this —
My philosophy is: Itās none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes life so much easier.
–Anthony Hopkins
Tiffanie, I will copy you in scent and philosophy today! Both are pretty great.
yay, lillyjo! hope your day was great š
Thank you for this very good quote. And your scent sounds lovely.
you are most welcome, and thank you! š
Anthony is quite the Buddhist! I agree with every word. ??
agree! I like Sir Anthony’s perspective.
Like Billie Holiday sang….ain’t nobody’s’ business if I do…
SOTD Comme de garcons 2.
awwwwwesommmme! love Billie š
Great quote! ??
thanks, Jalapeno!
I like to imagine the conversations that Karl Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel have been having since his arrival on the other side. But the important question is: how is Choupette? So I Googled.
https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/fashion/five-things-to-know-about-karl-lagerfeld-s-now-very-wealthy-cat-20190220-p50yy3.html
It shows what a shrewd businessman Karl was that even his kitten was making money!
Cute!
That is one spoiled cat
I would def trade places! ?
Eau de Shalimar for me today.
I’d also like to join in the chorus of being tired of cold weather. And snow (which I never thought I’d say. And I miss my kid. But oh well, the Shalimar Light is helping.
Cheer up KellyC! Winter will be over in just a couple of weeks and you will have a terrific time with son in NYC soon. Keep smelling amazing in the meantime!
Thank you, I can’t wait until spring! I’m so over being cold!
Oh man, I hear you on missing your kid. My daughter was home for 5 weeks over Christmas and I got so used to her being around that I cried more when I dropped her off last month than I did last September. Oy.
You will see your son soon?!!??
Glad Shalimar Light is helping. Iāve always been curious about that one because of the ad copy, which featured Keith Richardsā beautiful wife and daughters.
It’s so hard to miss them, isn’t it? He facetimed me last night and it made it better, we just chatted for a long time. I know he misses me too. I can’t wait for NY.
Would you like a sample of my Shalimar Light? If so, just send me an email! Click on my gravatar for my address if you don’t already have it. š
Wearing Carolās Daughter Monoi – no lime, but smells like Iām somewhere a lime would be close by.
Last night I delved into the samples,
Juliette has a gun White Spirit on my left arm – opening was awful but it did turn into a very enveloping tuberose.
and Bond No. 9 Perfume on my right – I decided not to look at notes before smelling – I thought it was strawberries & ambergris, but I guess itās an oud scent.
“Somewhere a lime would be close by” is exactly where I should be right now!
??āāļø
Hi all, SOTD is Eau de NY by Bond No. 9.
I’ve never gotten the chance to sniff many Bond No. 9s. I’ll be in NY next month and hope to try some there somewhere.
Saks has the full range.
Thanks!
I was in Saks last weekend in San Francisco and there seemed to be a gazillion Bond scents – makes it hard to choose and makes me instantly less interested. I tried Chinatown, because of the rave review it got, but it smelled just fine to me. The super friendly sales assistant showed me many scents, but there were just too many!
Eschmeling, that’s exactly what my experience is with Bond – too many and it gets quite overwhelming!
Now if I were only like that with food… š
I have a few specifics in mind I’d like to try but otherwise am not dying for any of them so hopefully I can scope out the ones I want to try and avoid the others!
Yep, Saks does have the full range.
Of all of the Bonds I’ve tried, NY is still my very favorite. I enjoy Hamptons, Fire Island and Coney Island also.
I love Fire Island so I’d like to try the Hamptons and Coney Island also. I’d also like to try Brooklyn ( I love that bottle so much), Chinatown because it seems to have rave reviews, and also the Eau de NY.
Eau de Merveilles + LADDM. Going a long way to cheering me up. It was driving rain and 35 degrees outside when we were bringing the horses up at 7 this morning. Yuck.
That that wonderful layering is working to cheer you up.
It did work! It kept raining, and I kept spraying.
Jil Sander No. 4, eBay purchase with a wonky sprayer. Sigh, I’m done with eBay. It is a “Gary Farn” edition (or something, too lazy to go back to look at the bottle). I have the recent Coty, this eBay, and have ordered another from Etsy this time, that is neither of these two manufacturers. It’s a pretty scent, really am enjoying the dry down.
i just got a maybe vintage Jil Sander N4 and a also maybe Vintage Chanel N5 on eBay for 1 Euro each. Have not got it, but hopefully they are intact and true vintage. Otherwise no financial harm done….
Oh nice! Hope theyāll be great!
Sometimes I want to try stuff that is out of my comfort zone, so a few weeks ago I was in the perfume store I and asked for a sample of Sex and the sea, by Francescha Bianchi, to go with my purchase.
It has coconut AND pineapple. Those notes are almost non existent in my collection, but a challenge for my nose is a good idea right?
Well I tried it twice now, and its just a big NO.
Yesterday I sprayed more and it even made me a bit nauseous. Its way too fruity sweet and loud and linear on my skin.
I scrubbed it off after an hour and dabbed a few drops of my Siberian Musk sample for comfort. It is quite sweet as well, but more musky and flowery sweet, with a gorgeous dry down.
Today I am wearing Jasmin Rouge.
and yay, we had a lot of sun today here!
It’s fun to try new things – even if in the end they confirm our initial hesitation!
Points for trying! I haven’t tried anything from that line and was curious about that one, eventhough I don’t really like anything too beachy.
It was not very beachy to me. It had a mineral vibe though, but on my skin the pineapple-vanilla-ambery sweetness dominated everything.
From Francesca Bianchi I also tried Under my skin. That was a much better experience. Its not a love for me, but it sure is interesting. Spicy-milky-skin-powder (that may sound gross haha but it is not)
Well, still sounds like it’d be a miss for me.
Ha! It’d be gross if it smelled like powdered skins (but my goth/macabre tendencies might be very curious ?)
I think Claire/ TakeOnethingoff.com has an interesting review of Under my skin.
To my nose it was quite soft and fluffy. So its not like dirty skin or very animalic.
Too sweet makes me feel nauseous too. Thatās the worst!?
At least you tried! I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’m not a tropical scent kind of gal. Pineapple and coconut belong in cocktails, not on my skin!
It’s good to get out of one’s comfort zone, even if the scented results aren’t the greatest. I have found some lovely scents that way… and some epic scrubbers!
Chanel No. 5 L’eau
You smell perfect.
good early spring scent
Quite perfect.
ā¤ļø you smell lovely!
Copal Azur today.
The opening phase of that is quite magnificent.
I find seaweed and incense a great pairing
That’s a nice one!
agreed!
OJ Frangipani for the lime note and because I haven’t worn it in a very long time, which is an unfortunate side effect of having Too Much Perfume. Going over to my friend’s apartment later to help her declutter before her move. We’re going to get takeout from a tortas walk up counter, so I’m pretty excited for dinner later.
Frangipani is so good. It’s on deck for me tomorrow I think.
Ah, I forgot that has that deliciously zesty lime note! Thanks and you smell great! Now I have something for Friday. Enjoy the tortas! Will make decluttering more enjoyable, for sure.
Twins! Itās the first thing I thought of.
Just starting to snow here, but I can’t complain, really, because I think it’s been a fairly mild winter here, so far, and I don’t have to drive-that would be my biggest fear, so feeling for those who do have to drive.
SOTD is Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs in my quest for something I like as much as PdN Neroli (not) Intense. This is much more perfumey and I think it’s a little sweeter, maybe a tad soapy/green initially. It’s verging on the edge of dryer-sheet white musk right now which is a minus. Longevity is much better and it’s definitely cheerful!
I say you should still complain! If I didn’t have to drive, I would definitely be less stressed about winter. But I would still hate it.
Awww, thanks lillyjo ? I don’t like being cold, period.
2nd that. We don’t really have awful winters anymore but I might complain even more than when we did.
You smell pretty. I have a sample of it somewhere. OeF reminds me of the pretty orange blossom perfumes sold in Florida.
I’m finding that this winter is mostly small snow storms followed by sleeting rain in my area. Much more ice and harder to drive on.
Thanks Petunia! I really like the early stages of OeF. Wish that stuck around longer.
I think our weather has been pretty similar to yours- maybe us Southerners have it a few degrees warmer.
Your SOTD sounds beautiful
It’s mostly lovely!
Today we take puppygirl to the vet for the last time. Her cancer came back, and itās just not treatable at her age, and she doesnāt feel good.
Iām so bonded with this sweet dogger. Itās hard to let her go, but right thing for her.
Sheās had scrambled eggs, salmon, cottage cheese and ripe banana over the past few days, all her favorites!
Please send good thoughts and prayers for us and our lion dog today.
ā¤ļøā¤ļø??ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Oh, no! So sorry Nancyleandros! Sending you lots of hugs. So hard…
I’m so sorry, you have my most positive thoughts and prayers.
*hugs*
I’m so sorry to here that.
Poor girl. My sympathies.
Ouch. Been there. Itās so hard. You have my sympathy.
Thinking of you, so difficult to let go, you’re being very brave and remember the good times.
Such a sad and painful day… Here’s to your courage and fortitude. And your darling puppygirl who’s been so well-loved.
So sorry to read this Nancy. You gave your puppygirl a wonderful home. It’s a hard day but I hope the memories bring you comfort. Hugs to you.
Such a tough thing to face, my heart goes out to you and your pupper. **fragrant hug**
I’m so sorry nancyleandros.
Oh no, this is hard.
So sad! You are all in my prayers. She will cross the bridge peacefully and be happy and healthy on the other side. Sending big hugs!
I am so sorry. That’s so sad.
I’m sorry to read that, it’s hard to say goodbye to a pet.
Oh no, I am so sorry! Sending hugs.
Hugs – thinking of you all.
Oh no, Nancyleandros! Iāve been there too and itās heartbreaking.? Sending good thoughts and hugs your way.
Iām so sorry Nancyleandros. Itās so hard to say goodbye, but I love the treats she got these past few days. Itās helped me to focus on just being thankful for the time I had and what a precious gift pets are.
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. We had to do the same for an old pug a few years ago – it’s never easy. It sounds like her last days were as nice as you could make them for her. Big hugs.
So sorry and sending good thoughts your way!
Oh, so sorry to hear this! T-Rex and I are sending our best to you and puppygirl?
Iām so sorry! Sending good thoughts your way ?
So sorry
I’m so very sorry for this tough time. That’s nice she got to eat so many nice treats recently.
That is so tough. I dread the day when this will be a choice we’ll have to face. I think it’s great that you tried to make her week food-fantastic for her!
I’m so sorry to read this. It sounds like the past few days have been special for her. Hugs.
I’m so sorry about your dog. Sending good thoughts your way.
Thinking of you both, Nancyleandros.
Oh geez. Such a sad and painful event. I am so very sorry Nancyleandros. It hurts when we have to say goodbye to our beloved animal companions. Hugs.
So sorry to hear this Nancy, sending you hugs.
This morning I was wearing Black Orchid, but it was making me feel more grumpy. After a shower, switched to Ambre Narguile and decided to layer it with bbw caramel apricot body butter. I smell delicious.
28 days….
Your post made me laugh. I feel grumpy most work days. Sounds like you are perfume ready for the weather. ?
Good for you for changing it up to something that made you feel less grumpy!
Sounds like the Grumpy Cat version of Demeter’s Kitten Fur needs a spot in your rotation! ?
?
Good one! Lol.. I have to check that Demeter out.
And for all you Grumpy Cat fans, there’s a weather app (not affiliated, just makes me laugh) It shows a different picture of GC every day along with your local weather details; (the featured picture will be dependent on the weather).
Fragrant friends, my sample of the recently reviewed A Ce Soir by Pont des Arts came in from Indigo and oh lordy! This is FANTASTIC. I can’t stop sniffing my wrist.
It reminds me of my beloved L’instant by Guerlain, but a better, more natural-smelling, softer, smoother version. Oh dear – I may have to get a bottle. It’s pricey.
I think Indigo has the 50 ml size for $170. They had 30 mls for $120 but it is sold out.
Sold out already?! Wow.
Wednesday!
1) Have been sick with cold the past couple of days, so no exercise and no work- just a lot of sleeping in bed and sipping on homemade bone broth and reading Garance Dore’s blog.
2) Am trying out Sylvaine Delacourte’s collection, because I saw it on Instagram. Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez dedicates several diss tracks to Delecourte- but I find it overly harsh. Honestly, the line seems rather well thought and lovely and it is in the style- light, intimate and skin like- that is In Fashion these days (Byredo, Le Labo) . I got the tester kits for $20 and if I like to buy a bottle, that price will be applied to the bottle PLUS another 30% off- a pretty sweet deal. Yeah, her name sounds like a Veela, but I am enjoying the range thus far.
Today, I am wearing Florentina, a very pretty, powdery Iris musk scent. I smell like very expensive body dusting powder, very cuddly and clean, which is actually rather nice for a late winter’s day. This is layered on top of Carol’s Daughter’s Buttercreme Body Lotion.
3) World Social Justice Day! My personal bit is environmental justice, ever since I was a kid. This includes clean water sources for all and clean air. I still hope that as we work on infrastructures in our country and around the world, we are able to tackle endemic inequalities that block clean water sources and air.
You smell lovely! Feel better.
Oh thank you! I am trying.
I like the vanilla offerings from this house – another reminder not to automatically cross things off that didn’t get good reviews from others.
I too like the vanilla offerings- they really are varied and all are exceptionally pretty.
And you are quite right- life is too short to be constrained by a review.
I think sometimes they grade on a curve of expectations. SD was at Guerlain for years and had access to the best of the best. She also claims to be doing something more than light skin scents. I think thereās a sort of idealism where they want to see someone in her position advance the art.
If J Lo had done them (and they had J Lo prices), the rating might have been different. I remember their assessment of Jean Paul Gaultierās Ma Dame was, āBetter than it had to be.ā ?
I think that you are right with the curve bit. And while I did not understand that SD claimed to be doing more ( I shoulda searched more) I can see ceratain scents within this range becoming bestsellers because they are ‘light and easy to wear’ which is not a bad thing but certain is not an idealistic thing.
And yeah, if these were at J Glow regular scmegular prices I would be up on here confessing how I bought an entire line.
(J Glow is NICE.)
While not idealistic, it is practically a public service to have scents that are flattering, versatile, and easy on those around you! I will give them a sniff the next time I see them.
Oh yes! I love a big ole bomb of a scent , but even with my relatively easy going line of work I have do teensy tiny spritizs so I don’t set myself off, never mind others.
I love her line, simple and gorgeous scents, I love Florentina, Virgile, her customer service and prices are excellent too.
1) Those two are really, really lovely and i can see them becoming best sellers. So far, Florentina has worn VERY well, despite the chill weather and would be just lovely in heat.
2) The VIP pricing is pretty darn sweet, I have to admit.
I was not a fan of her line, but its nice that you are giving her a try
I really appreciate how she offers the group of samplers to try and her idea of variations upon an ingredient theme!
1. Please feel better soon. 2. LOL about Delacourte being a Veela. Thanks for that, and I am now planning to get a sample of Florentina. 3. *Applause*.
A heads up:
The sample program does cost money and will be mailed from Paris. But it’s fair, because you get to try the whole set and see for yourself. The price of the set will be applied to an order if you like a bottle.

NovemberRose – im happy to send you my musk sampler. Just email me at yasminazsquared in the land of the g mail
Woke up super late today. Spent most of the day on the phone trying to straighten some things out on top of work. Yesterday, my dogs got their Bark Box and one of the toys was too big for them. This toy was more meant for a Rottweiler or a Mastiff and not a Lab. Called Bark Box and they are getting another toy. I love Bark Box. Five percent of their proceeds go to animal shelters and that is part of why I get them. Good news is that my federal tax refund is in my bank account. Ubar or Lone star Memories is going to be my next purchase. Wearing vintage BaV today.
You smell fabulous!
And you have a lab?!! I love all kinds of animals but I have such a soft spot for labs, because growing up with one is among my best childhood memories!
I have two. They are not as big as some but still.
Two! I love how happy, joyful and honest labs can be. And quite active, i like their energy š
The toys in bark box were always really good, but I canceled it because they sent more treats than our little dog could eat. Or more than I could give him, I should say, without stuffing him full. I should think about getting it again now that we’ve finally gone through our stash.
Iam actively oversleeping, i.e. i overslept and now iam procrastinating getting out of bed. Will do it….in a minute…..
Sjp Lovely post super quick shower.
Ha! You are sleep-crastinating. I wish I could do that – sadly, two small children preclude any possibility.
I sleep crastinate all the time and I have to remember I PAID REAL MONEY for my Pilates classes!
High five Oversleeping Twin! ā?
inspired by someones comment i found my sample of Tauers L`Eau. This is such a musky lemon scent without any freshness to it. Its nice, but i don’t need more, when the sample is finished
that’s exactly how I felt about it
It is dense, heavy. I like it, but I do not wear it often.
Lime is apparently a note in Tiger’s Nest so that’s my SOTD
Interesting! I did not know there’s lime in TN.
You smell great!
Eau de Stomach Bug, aka even my hand soap makes me a little ill. Grateful for my sense of smell though as I think it just saved me from burning down the house. It’s snowing A Freaking Gain in Minnesota, so not the worst day to stay home. I’m counting on this to be a true 24-hour bug as I have tickets to see A Little Night Music tonight! I kept down breakfast like a champ so hope is strong.
Get well soon!
Sending you good juju for a very prompt recovery! I woke up feeling a little nauseated and feared a stomach bug, but it passed. I think I just ate dinner too late.
?hope you feel better soon! Nothing like the old chicken noodle soup and saltines when Iām feeling nauseous.
I hate stomach bugs and get pestered by them quite a lot, so I just really hope you get better in time to see your music.
Oh, yikes! Hope it passes quickly. I hate that feeling of having to dash to the bathroom or else…?
Hope you make it this evening.
The stomach bug has just struck twice in two days at work. I am quaking in fear. Hope you feel better in time for your music!
Eau de Stomach Bug is just YICK! Hope it bugs out ASAP.
SOTD is Amouage Dia Woman, just because.
That’s the right choice for basically any day, in my book!
Best reason of all.
OJ Woman for me today.
Smelling like perfection.
Twins with therabbitsflower in OJ Frangipani today for the blast of lime in the opening.
Still fighting against whatever virus has shown up. No fever, just minor congestion and a lot of body aches. Iāve actually stuck a hot water in between my shoulder blades, which is helping. Drank a cup of peppermint/licorice tea earlier and am now drinking licorice spice. Not sure why, but I like anise or licorice in tea when I have a cold or something. Celestial Seasonings used to make a cold care tea I loved that had zinc and vitamin C with a licorice flavor. They reformulated it and got ride of the licorice. ā¹ļø
Woke just in time for brunch! ??Although I set my alarm for 8am, I was so warm and comfy snuggled in bed, I just couldnāt be bothered to get up. Work days, Iām up before dawn and as soon as I hit the floor itās all kinds of noise: cardiac alarms binging, call lights banging, TVās blaring, bed alarms shrieking, people yelling. Many nurses experience alarm fatigue, subconsciously tuning out alarms, but I seem to have gone in the opposite direction and become hypersensitive to all the racket. Sheesh! I love being able to wake like I did today, hearing only the twitter of birds, the wind in the trees, or rain pattering on my roof.
That being said, Iām in the comforting smell of Smoked Ambergris by SmellBent. Iām feeling very Zen. Or maybe Iām still sleeping…
I feel ya! I’m enjoying a day off too. I often hear IV and telemetry alarms when I get home…it can be hard to get my head clear. Have a wonderful & relaxing day off!!
As the Depeche Mode song says “Enjoy the silence!” ?
I’m in 7 virtues orange blossom thanks to rayleighblue.
PSA: Saks is offering gift cards with purchase (including beauty) with the code FEB2019, the smallest amount is $35 with $250 purchase up to $700 with $3000 purchase. Plus, they still have their tote GWP. They carry Hermessence line, but I think I might get the FM holiday coffret. It’s cheaper than buying each travel spray separately and I can always swap what I don’t like.
Wow! Thatās a big purchase, but when I look at what I spent previously, I wish I could trade it in for the coffret. Enjoy!
I’m in Caswell Massey Centuries Sandalwood today, from the very kind Laura! Her amazing package has been floating in the system for nearly a MONTH, and I was sure it was lost forever…but then it arrived yesterday š so don’t lose hope, friends, if you have lost packages!
Sandalwood is a bit greener/more masculine than I was hoping. I put it on because I’m still kind of sick and I wanted some comfort, but this is not really comforting me š maybe I will see if my boyfriend will agree to try it on.
Weird how some packages seem to be put on the slowest truck EVER!
Hahaha š I think it actually got lost in the Polar Vortex! Sounds like that really backed up mail delivery for a while.
Vintage Chanel 5 cologne, because it’s cold-ish. I placed my OJ woman travel spray order last night minutes before the sale ended, so that split is going to happen!
I’ve been watching the snow come down for a few hours here. Alas, it has recently switched over to sleet and other nasty stuff. Snow does not make a splattering noise when it hits the ground. ā?
SOTD – Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant, from the sample stash. I needed a warm and wonderful fragrance to make up for the weather, which is anything but! ?
Hoping the L’elephant sees you through the storm. This time of year is a challenge as I think we are all pretty tired of dreary, crappy weather.
Thanks, Petunia!
I know a lot of people have had it much worse with winter weather than I have this year. I agree with what Elisa P said up above. It’s been a fairly mild winter with occasional bouts of nasty in my book.
And more 50s coming up this weekend and winter is practically over already (and hoping I didnāt jinx us ?)! To be honest, I could complain more about this past summer with its seemingly endless rain. I felt totally cheated, lol.
Those cool rainy summers DO feel like a total rip-off! So many fun summer activities are no fun at all when you’re wet and miserable.
Oh you smell great. I haven’t worn that in weeks; I should get on that.
If there is a cold snap in your weather forecast, that would be the time for L’Elephant.
Oh you smell great. I haven’t worn that in weeks; I should get on that.
Wearing Womanity flanker Taste of Fragrance, magnified with Fig Chutney. The brine is slightly turned down in this version and the fig is greatly enhanced. I believe I traded a bottle of Shalimar for this during one of the swap meets here. Maybe I traded the ridiculous for the sublime but that would depend entirely on your taste. I have a vintage bottle of Shalimar EDC and find it much more pleasing to wear than recent versions.
Never tried that version of Womanity, since chutney is not exactly my favorite condiment. I really liked the leather version, though.
Another busy day, late again. Iām in Aedes Musc EncensĆ©.
Doing a comparison today, LāArtisan Histoire dāOranger vs 7 Virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom, in defiance of the cold front.
To my nose the LāA is more orange blossom focused and warmer (muskier? Maybe itās the ambroxan), with a definite fresh linen vibe. Itās more tenacious on skin than the 7V and doesnāt have any weird moments whatsoever.
The 7V is brighter in comparison (probably the bergamot) and very clearly blended with jasmine. I canāt identify any freesia outright, but the first minute or so on skin it has a rubbery/almost plasticy phase that I associate with some tuberose frags. It comes across slightly soapy and the lasting power could be better.
If I remember correctly, the new 7V Orange Blossom has way more citrus fruit and neroli, which wasnāt what I was looking for.
Thanks for your mini reviews and comparisons! I was just looking at the LāAP yesterday. Sounds nice, though by āfresh linenā do you mean dryer sheet smell?
I thought the new 7 Virtues was pretty bland and, yes, very citrusy (but I was comparing it to PdN Cap Neroli, so it was relatively bland).
It’s way muskier than the 7V and, yes, reminiscent of dryer sheets, but also has a really warm facet like all the laundry is toasty straight out of the machine? It didn’t just blast dryer sheet for miles. I don’t remember anything recently that had the same effect and it was very cuddly.
I think I made it sound like I didn’t like the 7V take on orange blossom, but I’d wear it more than the L’A since it’s crisp and usually layers well. Just wish it’s lasting power was better.
Haven’t tried Cap Neroli but I’ll look for it in the future!
At the hospital for the past couple of hours. My 88 year old father fell and hit his head. Bleeding wound and a fractured humerus. Now he needs to be transferred to another hospital where they have more extensive trauma facilities. I donāt know what to expect.
Oh no!!! That is such a horrible feeling, having a loved one hurt and not knowing what to expect. Hugs and healing thoughts!
Sorry to hear this; sending all good thoughts your dad’s way. Hope you get good news soon.
Sending you and your father my thoughts. Hospitals can be so confusing. š
Oh, gosh! So sorry for you both! Hoping heās not too seriously hurt.
Iām very sorry to hear this. I hope your Dad is ok ?
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Is sounds like he is in very good hands.
I hope your dad will improve and that the transfer goes smoothly.
Gosh, please update us when you can!
Late to the party today. I wore Lostmarcāh Iroaz, which is what Cape Cod should smell like if it doesnāt already, and which (for once) lasted all day on me. Beach salt and wild roses. š
