It is with deep sadness that the house of Chanel announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld.
A prolific creative mind with endless imagination, Karl Lagerfeld explored many artistic horizons, including photography and short films. The house of Chanel benefited from his talent for all the branding campaigns related to fashion since 1987. Finally, one cannot refer to Karl Lagerfeld without mentioning his innate sense of repartee and self-mockery.

So so sad. He might be gone from the real world. But legends live on forever. So in a way, we should celebrate as well.
He was incredibly lucky to be able to work and stay relevant into his 80s — so yes, celebrate.
He is a legend!
I loved reading interviews with him, he was really peculiar and fascinating
The piece they did on him in the NYer a few years ago (oops, no, just looked it up it was 2007) was fascinating, I will read it again this week.
Here is a snippet:
“Lagerfeld’s determination to stay current requires ruthlessness and a lack of sentimentality. He periodically rids himself of art, objects, and places that, previously, had been sources of inspiration and pleasure. People are not exempt. “He kind of passes on, because he doesn’t like the past,” one of the people who travels in Lagerfeld’s circle says. “So then he decides you’re the past and then he just puts you in the trash.” Lagerfeld says, “I have an entourage of people of today. Because people can work with me for a hundred years but they have to stay informed. And no regrets, no remove, not saying, ‘Oh, things were better then.’ ” According to his publishing partner, Gerhard Steidl, when Lagerfeld reads a thick paperback, he tears out the pages as he finishes them.”
If that’s what staying current and relevant requires, I’m afraid I am out of luck. But he certainly was an interesting person.
Ha, me too!!
The fingerless gloves. The dark glasses. I shall lavish on the few remaining spritzes I own of Fleur de Pecher in his honor.
