It's Monday and Thomas Edison's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: on vacation, day 4. I am commando. I might wear some perfume tonight, but I might wear some Badger Bug Balm instead.
Reminder: on 2/15, wear a natural perfume, if you have one. Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

All natural Fum Perfumery Nerola
Hey CM8, I got a box of that marzipan flavour tea while in Düsseldorf, so email your postal address to gbeggan atte yahoo dotte comme if you would like it. ;^)
OMG!!!!! Really? But I am in the States??
Well, 20 teabags won’t weigh much. I wouldn’t start boiling the kettle just yet though. :^D
LOL!
email sent 🙂
Even if they never make it here your offer is lovely and very much appreciated !
I’ve got two options for this week, and I’m keeping those up my sleeve.
So today I went with what I felt like and that was Jardin d’Armide by Oriza L. Legrand. I love it and I still dream of this Oriza coffret with all of their offerings in 10 ml bottles (with tassels!) with an accompanying coffret with all of their soaps. Meanwhile I’m trying to make up my mind which of them I would really like a full bottle of.
Hope you are having a great time, Robin.
Jardins d’Armide was an immediate love for me. You smell great
Me too. LuckyScent accidentally sent me three little samples of it with an order (normally they send an assortment of different things), and it turns out I don’t mind at all. 🙂
It wasn’t instant love for me, but I was intrigued from the first sniff, and have gradually fallen for it. My favourite so far is Marions-nous, a gorgeous aldehydic floral, as soft as goose down. I also love Foin fraîchement coupé, which feels like a summer night in a bottle.
You smell lovely today and yes to 10 ml coffrets with matching soap!
Lovely scent!
That Oriza coffret would be both wonderful and horrible for me! I’m trying to not buy any perfume right now.
Having a blast, thank you!
Currently sampling Ajne Printemps. I have enough samples that I could do just natural perfumes for several weeks(assuming that I can find them and that they’re not evaporated) Ajne, AbdesSalaam, Anna Zworykina, Roxanna Illuminated Perfumes, Heretic, Anya’s Garden, Aftelier, Richard Luscher Britos, On the Nose, Velvet and Sweet Pea Purrfumery, Providence Perfume Co, JAR, and select DSH and Soivohle perfumes (they both differentiate the naturals from the mixed media ones)
Aha! Thanks for this convenient list!
That list is just ones I have samples from. Off the top of my head that I don’t think I have samples from are Bogue, Hiram Green, April Aromatics and J Hannah. Glad the list is helpful
Oh great. Sounds like I have plenty of options for the week! 🙂
Hey, I have a bottle of Ajne perfume somewhere. Can’t remember where I got it, or what its name is, but now that you mentioned it, I might have to go hunt it down…..
Nice list of options. I will add Strange Invisible Perfumes, Ayala Moriel, Pirouette Essentials (they’re a Seattle brand), some Olympic Orchids, Fum, and Abel Perfumes.
and some SSS and some 1000 Flowers and Rosie Jane and Phlur 🙂
and some Solstice Scents are natural as well.
St. Clair Scents also uses a very high percentage of naturals so I would include those too.
and Pacifica!
I love Badger products – hope the Bug Balm works. I wore L’Ambre des Merveilles yesterday and liked it so much that I’m in it again today.
So far, working great. Or, the resorts here are spraying for mosquitoes so much that I don’t even need the bug balm, not sure.
You smelled great today!
I’m wearing Violet Beauregarde today and will probably show up in Providence Perfume Co a few times this week, since they’re the only naturals I really have. (And I love them!).
I’m not going to be able to participate this week, since I have no naturals. Today I’m in Chant d”Aromes.
Chant d’Aromes.
And if you want to be really geeky and finicky about it I would add a ^ to the o 😉
Oh but you smell so pretty Priscilla, I quite recently acquired a bottle of vintage Chant d’Arome (I like the modern one too, very faithful to the original although more subdued).
Lucky! I love vintage Guerlain anything.
Would love to try vintage Chant d’Arômes, I’ve got a bottle of the current juice and that is so lovely, so I’m assuming the vintage is even better.
The main difference is that the vintage drydown has a much more pronounced guerlinade that lasts which is lacking with the recent one on my skin, it tends to . Up top they are similar ie both lovely floral bouquet.
Another Chant d’Âromes fan here! You smell lovely.
All the natural perfumes I will wear this week are thanks to a very generous and terrific NSTer. I received them recently and I am enjoying all of them greatly. Thank you!
I am in Fume Winter Crocus. Beautiful and very unusual. It is smoky, earthy, spicy with a slight veggy touch. Love it! For a natural perfume the performance is great. 4 hours already and I can still smell it very well, especially from the spray I had on my sweater. Just because of the price I will not think about a full bottle, but it is worthy!
House twins! I wore Fum Winter Crocus yesterday. Agree that it has good longevity for an all natural. Full bottle is out of my price range too but I am enjoying the sampler. It will be my thunk today.
What I meant to say was that I have already thunked the Fum Nerola but when I get home tonight I might just thunk the Winter Crocus too!
I used half of the sample today. I will finish the other half later. I would love to enjoy it one more time.
And I would love to know your thoughts on Ariose as that is my favorite and I could see you liking that one..I think there is iris in it if I am not mistaken.
I might wear Ariose tomorrow. I have not sampled it yet, but looking forward to it.
I will hold off on scent until I see your post..if you were it I will wear it too!
wear…no were 🙂
Got my sample order from Aftelier just in time for the CP this week.
First up was Memento Mori, which, frankly, is horrifying. Like if someone tossed a bouquet into a house from a Hoarders episode. Could not scrub it off fast enough and replace it with the most opposite I could find, sweet and easy Hanae Mori.
Nowhere but up from here I guess!
Memento Mori I got in the freebie meet (thank God I didn’t spend money on this one) and completely agree with you, what a horrifying fragrance. I actually gagged. What was she thinking!
I saw the review here before, but curiosity killed the cat! I tried to give it a chance to calm down, but with no end in sight and work looming, it had to go. I had to isolate it from the other samples because the sprayer is leaking a little, too. I feel bad throwing it away but not sure I want to subject anyone to it.
Hahaha oh dear, will be sure not to try that one!
Ha! I find that most of the Afteliers read that way on my skin. I have sampled about ten of them and have just about given up on this house. I kept the solid of Cuir Gardenia in my office at work just to remind me NOT to be tempted to revisit this brand.
Uh oh. 4 samples left, I started with the one I was unsure about so I’m hoping there’s a winner in here somewhere!
I didn’t completely dislike all of the ten but for what they cost I could certainly find other fragrances (natural or not) that suit me better.
For me, it’s her ambergris that I cannot cope with. Her scents that don’t have ambergris tend to work for me. Ancient Resins is fabulous.
Darn, didn’t get that one!
Love Ancient Resins! I need to wear it this week.
Which other samples do you have? I have not liked a lot of Afteliers, but I love Secret Garden and Alchemy.
I got Memento Mori, Parfum Prive, Wild Roses, Vanilla Smoke, and Cepes and Tuberose.
I tried three of the body oils including Ancient Resins. One had a pear isolate which smelled very chemical and cheap. Off the top of my head Cuir Gardenia, Cepes and Tuberose, Fig, Honey Blossom, Sepia and Palimpsest.
I didn’t like Memento Moro at all, nor did I care for Parfum Prive (good thing as that one is $$$$, even more than most of her scents). I liked Wild Roses but not enough to spring for a FB. I haven’t tried Vanilla Smoke and I don’t remember Cepes and Tuberose.
Some lovely individual gifted me Bergamoss and that’s quite nice!
Hanae Mori the one with the butterflies? Great choice it’s a lovely antidote to the horrifying MM.
Yes! One of my first fragrance loves, I’ll never let it go.
I love HM as well.
Well, I found an old bottle of Black Cashmere over the weekend, so that’s what I’m wearing today. Spices, incense, and woods? Perfect.
Perfect! I just bought a bottle off of eBay, just had to!
I had never smelled it when it was new, so I was nervous to buy it blind. I got a great deal on this one though and it’s exceeding my expectations.
Oh yay!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Now I know why it was such a cult favorite.
You smell like a warm hug!
You smell wonderful! Black Cashmere is in my top ten favorites of all time 🙂
I hope you are starting to wind down and sink into relaxation on your 4th day Robin! I don’t know what you do for a day job but you certainly put a lot into keeping up the nst site for which I’m very grateful.
So I got through all of the samples in the Nicolai discovery set and wanted to share my impressions. First off, this is how they smelled to me on my own skin, so the ones I didn’t care for may smell fantastic and be right up someone else’s alley.
1. Patchouli Intense: I’ve met my soulmate and his name is Oak Moss. Gorgeous frag, interesting and wearable, FB worthy.
2. Ambre Cashmere Intense: Madame Pompadour swims by the viewing window at the aquarium with a powder puff in one hand and a profiterole in the other.
3. Music Intense: Forget the bugs, this is some high quality man repellent! On me, sour pear dries down to screaming pear!!
4. Fig Tea: bright pink rest stop washroom soap. Sexyyyy.
5. New York Intense: Great one but a little too masculine for me. A lot like LDDM in the dry down minus the sweet amber. On a man this one would be a knock out. A lot like vintage old spice.
6. L’eau Mixte: Beautiful for spring and summer. Herbaceous citrus mint, light and refreshing. Goes a little sharp on me in drydown.
The big winner for me is Patchouli Intense. I will test that and L’eay Mixte again to see if I will get a bottle
OMG close your ears, Antony! It’s Music Intense! ? (Musc Intense)
🙂
something like vintage Old Spice…mmmm…I would wear that!
Around mid development it hits that spice carnation old spice goodness.
Yum!!!
Wonder if current Old Spice is any good?
Sajini you are tempting me with Patchouli Intense, it’s one I haven’t tried. I love the regular New York but to me it’s plenty intense on it’s own. Not sure why everything has to have an intense version; I was looking at Montale on Luckyscent last week and was astonished to see they’ve produced an intense version of Black Aoud, which I can’t imagine. Thanks for your reviews.
Hahahaha! Intense Black Aoud! Someone on nst sent me a dabber of regular Montale Black Aoud and she had drawn a scull and crossbones on the label.
Lol! That’s perfect 😀
Hope your vacation is going well, Robin!
I could use one myself. Jan was awfully long.
SOTD: MFK Aqua Vitae Forte from the freebiemeet!
I mostly get the ylang-ylang from this one, but its very well blended so I do experience some spice and citrus too. It’s a weird one, but weirdly-beautiful if that makes sense.
I really liked the original Aqua vitae, but the Forte version wasn’t quite for me. Especially for the price! I do like the spices in the top notes, but I prefer the luminous texture have the original.
January was forever this year! (Actually all of 2018 was long too.)
Good morning!
I didn’t get a chance to respond to everyone’s weekend comments.
I saw Cold War, excellent film. I am sure some New Yorkers would appreciate this story:
I buy my ticket for the movie.
“There is no heat in the theater”
Me: “Huh”
“You have 10 minutes to let me know if you want a refund”
HA! So New York. Well its fitting that a movie called Cold War that the theater would be cold. It wasn’t that bad actually…I just reclined my chair and used my coat as a blanket. My friends kept their’s on.
The soundtrack to the film I have been listening to non stop (when the kids are not home)
Sipping chai tea
SOTD Hindu Honeysuckle Providence Perfume
Glad you liked the movie! I haven’t seen it yet, not sure if the theaters here are going to bother unless it picks up any of the Oscars it’s nominated for. Nice to see foreign films make a good showing outside of their little category.
Dear Dorsey-I believe Amazon will stream it, since its an Amazon film if that helps!
I know, I know, but I’m impatient 😀 The cinematography is supposed to be stunning, so I’ll see it in a theater if I can! But I’m outside the “major markets” so I have to settle often.
I understand.
One of my friends whom I was with was Parisian and she loved the shots in old Paris.
Also the film was like opening a book and reading about the communist era in Poland
llol! That IS so New York for sure!
Too funny! They should’ve given you free popcorn or something. Though, I’m thinking it can’t be colder than the arctic air conditioning blasting in the summer- I have to bring a sweater to the movies to cover myself.
I’m waiting for this film to come to Amazon. Hope they have it soon… I loved his other film, Ida!
Yes, the arctic air in the summer…they blast it in all theaters..cafes and shops..everywhere!
PSA: Clarins is having their F&F -no code.
Hope your vacation is going well, Robin 🙂
I don’t really pay attention to all-natural-ness in perfumes, so I’ll be looking at what you all are wearing to figure out which houses work. For today, though, I think I’m complying with the CP in Aftelier Ancient Resins; I think Aftelier’s all-natural, right? I smell wonderful, but since this is an oil and not a perfume, and/or because it’s all-natural, I expect to be scentless by noon, at which point I’ll need to reach into my desk stash or gym bag stash for a little booster.
I meant to say: After all that discussion about LUSH Rose Jam perfume, I looked on eBay and saw a set with the body wash, solid, and liquid perfume for $62!!!!!!!!! I can’t get it because of my no-buy (I even tried to get an exemption from the Ruling Body, ie, my boyfriend, but he says part of the pain of a no-buy is watching gorgeous deals slip by), but if it’s still up there, one of you should DEFINITELY snap it up. And then please tell me about it so I know it’s in loving hands.
That is indeed the pain of the no buy. I’ve unsubscribed from emails about sales and try to stay off Makeupalley to avoid sale discussions but I’m only human and I’m pretty addicted to goodwill.com, which has tremendous fragrance finds sometimes, and tons of great prices on sterling silver jewelry, my other big weakness. As long as I avoid wine shopping – like not FOR wine but rather under the influence of wine – I do better 😉
I think I would be in BIG trouble if I lived near a thrift shop that sold perfume! I would probably break my NO BUY too!
Ahahaha, thanks for clarifying the meaning of wine shopping 🙂 I’m scared to sign up for goodwill.com e-mails. I’m always envious of the lovely perfumes other people find at thrift shops, but goodness knows I don’t need more temptation.
You do smell wonderful! The scent in AR lasts pretty well on me.
Oh, really? I have sadly scent-eating skin 🙁 so maybe that’s why it only lasts for a few hours on me.
Maybe you could do a 5:2 no buy, or just buy carbs-free perfumes until you reach your goal…even if you just cut back on gourmands and perfumes with chocolate notes, and go with lots of greens?
Hahaha I love it 🙂
Hang in there with your no-buy, Koyel! It sucks having to pass up goodies like that LUSH set, but you are doing it for a good reason.
Not gonna lie; I was hoping someone would buy that set, decide the perfume was not for them, and swap it with me. (I can’t BUY anything, but I can still swap!!)
In any case, that set has disappeared 🙁 I can only hope an NSTer got it.
Ha! I looked but couldn’t find it. Hope it went to a good home ?
Hi all and happy Monday! SOTD is De Ma Mere by Shelley Kyle, honey, mimosa, amber and a lovely linden note.
Nursing a sore throat from yesterday’s Bohemian Rhapsody singalong at the Castro theatre, we had a great time, sold out show with lots of tears and celebration. One of the best singalongs we’ve attended in a long time.
I have a new respect for Freddie Mercury – I’d forgotten he had a four-octave range! 😀
That sounds like so much fun! I was a volunteer in the Castro, back in the day (as they say)–1989, AIDS counseling with the Shanti Project. Those were heady and tragic days indeed.
Oakland Fresca, it was a total blast! The Castro was one of my favorites placed I used to frequent back when I’d first moved to SF. Did a lot of fund-raising and volunteering.
I fondly remember my first Halloween celebration in the Castro in 1999, I was washing glitter out of my hair for weeks.
BoRhap singalong sounds incredible. I hope to do that someday 😀
How fun!
Did you see the movie?
Lovestosmellgood – yes, there was a costume contest beforehand and then we watched the movie (I’ve seen it eight times to date).
I love the Castro theatre, it was built in the 1920s, and they serve real butter on their popcorn. Singalongs come with a goodie bag like glow stix, crowns (it IS Queen, after all) and pop toys.
I had no idea what an impressive singer/musician he was until I watched the movie, and now I admire him greatly. Sounds like a fun event!
I could not believe his voice, four-octave range and such power!
That sing along sounds awesome!
In the opposite of natural, Miu Miu L’eau Bleue. It was a gift from my husband, so I wear it with pleasure for that reason. It would make a nice shampoo scent. I haven’t taken a shower today in the optimistic hope I will make it to the gym this afternoon. So the scent is imparting FRESH where I am merely aspiring to it.
For those of you old enough to remember dialing a phone, remember crank calls? Cruel and hilarious. Now they are just cruel (or criminal). But what if someone calls you? Apropos of nothing, except if you need a laugh: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/578/i-thought-i-knew-you/act-two
we have a rotary phone in our apartment…still..its a conversation piece.
I remember *making* crank calls as a stupid pre-teen.
Actually at this point I’d rather get a crank call than another stupid spam call.
My chicken enchiladas didn’t agree with me last night so I was up and down. Got up this morning but now I’m going back to bed for awhile. Bohemian Spice is helping me relax and feel nice.
Hope your feel better soon Calypso.
Hope you’re feeling better!
Bohemian Spice is lovely stuff. Get well soon!
Hope you feel better soon. I like your new kitty face?
I’m wearing a dab of Amber butter from Morraco. It’s freezing cold here and I desperately need cozy. I smell cozy.
Robin, are you in Grenada or was that just the photo? I’ve been to Grenada twice, what a beautiful country. Stayed at the Mango Bay Beach Cottages up the coast, quiet and laid back. We became experts at traveling around on the “rasta” buses.
Yes, I am!
We are not experts, we missed our stop on the bus today and had to circle around, but that was sorta entertaining in its own right. Things are more entertaining when they only cost a dollar and when it is warm and sunny out 🙂
Robin, where are you vacationing?
Island of Grenada.
We are having a rare day without precipitation! What is that bright spot up in the sky?? Yesterday we even had some snow in the morning.
SOTD is TF Plum Japonais, Just Because. Gosh I love this scent. And over the weekend I wore TF Bois Marocain. Perhaps this will be a TF week for me.
I love so many TF scents, though I know he’s a polarizing figure..
Lots of TF’s work for me, too. Polarizing schmolarizing 🙂
You smell lovely 🙂 I’d have more TFs if they cost less, but they mostly seem to work for me, too! I don’t know enough about TF or his company to feel strongly about him one way or another.
If only he wasn’t so good looking….
Today I’m in Salvatore Ferragamo “Convivio”.
Top: grapefruit and carrot seed;
Mid: cypress and jamine;
Base: ambroxan and cashmere woods.
It’s pleasant and fresh, but doesn’t last very well (on me anyway)
My Düsseldorf client treated me to lunch to say thanks for my work, which was very decent of him. For my last 2 Mondays working remotely I’ll just tidy up and hand over my work. And for the next 3 months my Mondays will be free! I feel a whole lot of catching up on paperwork and tidying of files coming on. :^)
I’m sitting in Düsseldorf station, waiting for the ICE train to Amsterdam, watching the Thalys train to Paris pull in at the next platform. When you’re used to living on an island where all trains are domestic, it’s fun to see trains that run through several countries…
I love being on railway stations for that reason. Are you off to Amsterdam?
Amsterdam train as far as Utrecht, then change for Den Haag :^)
I know that route!
I used to love that about living in Germany compared to NZ. All those departure boards with cities that always seemed so distant and unobtainable (from my point of view) just a train track away. Similar, but less romantic, with airports. Enjoy your Mondays and Den Haag
I love train travel. I wish we had a better rail system here in the US. It really boggles the mind that we don’t
Agree, it’s crazy.
I agree too. During my trip to Italy and Sicily last October, I traveled on at least 10 trains…some lasting 8 hours long.
I have a good number of naturals from which to choose, except I am still doing my personal Red Package challenge. Fortunately, I make up the rules to fit my needs and it just so happens that even the perfumes I am wearing this week fro indie / niche houses happen to have at least a spot of red.
First up:
SOTD = Rising Phoenix Sicilian Vanilla
I first read about this in Kafka’s blog. Resinous hefty non-gourmand pipe tobacco vanilla. Nice!
Looking forward to seeing what others come up with during the week.
Great suggestion, CM8!
😉
That really sounds lovely!
It is!
Have you seen the new Gaultier Classique Cabaret bottle? It’s red!!!
Bottle is beautiful!
I should clarify and say that I can probably do a full week of naturals in conjunction with the red package challenge.
The Phlurs are relatively natural and did come in red bubble pack 🙂
I do not have any natural perfumes (i.e. without any synthetics), but I plan to wear Lush scents all week for half points.
Today – Lush Dirty (body spray).
Great idea, and close enough!
Aside from my Ancient Resins oil, I don’t think I have any all-natural perfumes anymore. I must’ve either used up or given away any samples I had.
I’ll reimagine the CP to things that sure smell like they could be natural, or things that smell like a facsimile of something natural.
I’m wearing Aroma M Nobara Cha- the rose in this smells just like the rose otto EO I have. A little rough with the dirty bits left in. I wore this a lot last winter, but not as much this year, so nice to bring it out again.
I like your interpretation of the CP ???
It’s been very hot and bright with glaring sun so I took the dogs out before dawn yesterday ( as the black footpaths burn their paws ) and the whole length of our street smelled of honeysuckle. It grows everywhere and its only competition comes from the bit eucalyptus. The leaves are beginning to turn in the maples, and the chestnuts are ripening. We used to play conkers as kids so I still pick them up and pocket them .
Bas de Soie here, waiting for sunrise.
Bas de Soie is such a cool perfume, you smell dreamy.
honeysuckle and eucalyptus are the smells of my childhood. thank you for sharing your walk with us 😀
Love that word picture, and you smell great. Almost wore Bas de Soie last week for the ice part of fire and ice.
Oh yay! Given the weather I will revisit my perfumes from my LA trip last year!
1) SOTD: in a combo of Fresh Cream Soft Suede and Lancome Cuir. So I think THIS is the way to use the Philosophy fragrances: as layers, as eau de toilette to wake up the senses in the morning.
2) Weird weather this weekend, so no PIlates and no cardio and plenty of wine& very hearty meals (sausage/mushroom ragu over polenta, split pea soup, clam chowder). I did walk in the icy clear weather when the snow finally stopped falling, though!
Your meals this weekend sound so good!
Oh but they were, with plenty left over for this week, which just means more fuel for cardio and Pilates! I will feel very good when I go to LA at least, if not as trim as I wanted!
That sounds like a great weekend -ragu! Mmm.
Ooooh, good idea! Look forward to smelling Suede next time I’m at Ulta…last time I really liked warm cashmere & ballet rose, but thought they weren’t interesting enough, but as layers ?
Right- so if you use them as 1) body refreshers after waking up (if you bathe at night) and then 2) layer a regular musk/oriental/gourmand type fragrance, it acts like a booster. It is also subtle enough for office meetings and such.
I was in semi-vintage Mitsouko EDP for the office, but this evening I’m wearing Rituals Palace d’Ambre a limited edition from 2017 which is insanely lasting like my beloved Sahara Noir which it resembles. I warmly recommend Pd’A and Rituals prices are so reasonable, and they smell natural, probably half points.
Interesting. I’ve never smelled Rituals anything, the Sahara Noir comparison has my attention.
Hello Lillyjo: Palace d’Ambre and Sahara Noir really have a lot of similarities to my nose. I only know two of their scents, Pd’A and Victoire d’Ambre, unfortunately they were 2017 limited editions but they make me want to explore the line. If you have a chance check the US website and have a look, they do travel sprays, always a good thing in my book. Rituals is still quite confidential but I was amazed at the quality for the price.
I had a fun but busy weekend.
Went to Cologne for one night an saw an excellent exhibition of American art in the Wallraf Richartz Museum.
Slide show on this page gives an impression:
https://www.wallraf.museum/ausstellungen/aktuell/2018-11-13-amerika/ausstellungsfotos/
SotD is Moon Bloom
From Hiram Green. I did not know about the CP, but am unexpectedly participating, because this is an all natural fragrance, according to the brand’s website.
Anyways, it smells mighty fine, and that is all that matters to me 🙂
hi Jiji, we are tuberose twins today, I’m wearing Tauer Tuberose flash for the first time. 😀
Thank you for the link to the exhibit. Today is a holiday in the US in honor of Abraham Lincoln, so it was serendipitous to see his sculpture highlighted.
We smell ‘grande’ 🙂
Tuberose always reminds me of my mother who used to wear Poison to parties, back in the 80s. Always accompanied by big earrings, shoulder pads of course. Nowadays she wears lighter fragrances, but sometimes I miss those big smothering 80s scents on her. Haha.
American Art eh? I recently read a quote about the relationship between Americans and our art: “In terms of antiques, architecture, and art, Americans will travel hundreds of miles to view masterpieces but will not show any respect towards the beautiful works of art on their own shores.”
But, but….American artists made / make amazing stuff!!!
I enjoyed all of it, especially from the 19th century on. Thomas Eakins, Cecilia Beaux and John Singer Sargent, winslow homer and O’Keeffe and Hopper and Sloan and…and…. I could go on and on.
Powerful images. What an incredible heritage, and it shows that USA has so much more to offer than cars, guns and coca cola 😉
Yes, but I think many Americans don’t appreciate the beauty of their own heritage.
I agree! I love O’Keeffe!
Too bad work is not on display that often near or in my country. Because no print or book can replace that experience.
Anyone who has have better access to her work, should go and see it, its amazing. 🙂
I love American art but it often is necessary to travel hundreds of miles to see American art in the US. This is a big country. To see masterpieces in Europe would require traveling thousands of miles not mere hundreds.
Last year we visited the Norman Rockwell museum in Massachusetts during our vacation to New England and loved it.
Limping through work after a weekend of stomach sickness. No. 5 L’eau was all I could handle this morning, but it’s comforting me nicely.
L’eau is lovely. Hope you feel better soon.
No 5 is one of my comfort scents too. Hope you feel much better today, irisjasmine 😀
You smell great. I hope you recover quickly.
No points for me in Shalimar. Wearing it because it’s Monday and I just needed it.
because it’s Monday is the best reason of all. You smell fantastic, KellyC!
I picked my SOTD for the same reason.
Smelling wonderful
SotD = Tuberose Flash
From a Tauer spray sample, this is really beautiful. The tuberose note reminds me of my beloved vintage Oscar, though TF is much more straightforward, less floral bouquet, more emphasis on the tuberose. Delightful.
I’ve got four more new-to-me Tauer samples to work through this week. I feel my fragrance mojo coming back to life.
ENJOY your Monday NSTers, the present moment is all we have.
xoxoxo
Ooh, I love that one! You smell great.
Looking forward to hearing how the other Tauers work out for you tiffanie!
Found some Monday clarity in Atelier des Ors Nuda Veritas.
Madness at work will start tomorrow when our guests arrive.
Wearing 5 O’clock Gingembre to cosy up on a cold white winter day. I have one Aftelier sample but will have to dig for more naturals.
I have very little in the way of natural perfume, I’ve tried some lovely things, but they tend to lack staying power. One exception is Hiram Green. I have a tiny drop of Dilettante that I could wear on Friday, Hyde is too much for me, and I’ll find a new home for that sample. However, depending on delivery, I might have my bottle of Shangri La by the end of the week. I had decided that I didn’t want a FB, but I changed my mind 🙂
And I forgot to say that today will be Le Temps d’Une Fête, a summer favourite.
You will smell stunning!
Have you tried the Honoré des Prés trio? Vamp à New York, Love Coco and Love les Carottes. Those are all-natural, I think and last a considerable amount of time.
Participating in Hiram Green Hyde. I can only wear this in a Monday because I’m working from home today. I hope this is the only day this week I have to work from home because my home work space is tiny and not ergonomic. At work I’m pampered with a comfy chair, sit/stand desk, and two large adjustable monitors in addition to my laptop. My right shoulder has already cramped up pretty bad today.
BUT Hyde! I love it even more on my second wearing than I did the first. Just three tiny dabs to each arm goes a long way. I can’t see ever needing more than 1ml samples of it because it’s such a big perfume.
Oh meant to say that I’m working from home due to roads in my neighborhood being slippery and unsafe plus the possibility looming of more snow this afternoon and evening! I only left the apartment building for 2 min yesterday to snap some pictures of the snowy conditions.
Thanks for saying that 1 mL goes a long way! That will help me resist it when it inevitably shows up in the splitmeet.
Felanilla!
Wonderful! You are enjoying it that bottle, aren’t you?
Youbetcha!
Twins! ?
Hey Twin! ?
Wearing A.A. Pink Wood today. Not as oud-y as I had feared. I could do a whole week or more of just A.A. scents.
Belated birthday wishes to Mr. 50_Roses! Did he like his gift?
Yes, he did. He’ll wear any perfume I buy for him. If I like the way it smells on him, then he likes it. He did get a kick out of it being called “Tempo”.
Incidentally, we one owned a Ford Tempo. It was a good little car and I enjoyed driving it. Our two current cars are a Hyundai Sonata and a Kia Forte, so I say that we have musician’s cars.
Even though I am getting a refund, filing taxes is such a thorn in my side. Had to do a live chat with H&R block because I had to ask a question about AIG. I am going to hop in the shower and eat a late lunch. The taxes should have taken me 30 minutes not almost 2 hours. I think that I will wear Epic today.
But good for you for starting early! I have not even thought about taxes yet.
Highly recommend a visit to the Edison and Ford Winter Homes and Gardens in Ft Myers FL if anyone is near that area. Amazing history, homes, workshops, and botanical gardens! I’ve been several times and would go again if I were there.
I’ve been commando for the past several days, now back in the fragrant fold with a light spritz of Felanilla thanks to a lovely NSTer.
We had a light dusting of snow that didn’t last over the weekend, and then it’s been rain, rain, rain ever since. I’m ok with rain, light snow, grey skies, but when you combine them with a wicked whipping wind, I’m done. So, we are ensconced in the van today, doing van chores. Fine by me because it was a busy weekend of work, evidenced by the 8-10 miles I clocked each shift. ?
Wow, no wonder you stay in great shape!
Oh Petunia, this comment is so funny because I’ve gotten very fluffy in the past year and half….! Bless you! ??
It makes me really happy to see “fluffy” as a description of physical shape.
Good to hear from you Deva!
SOTD Botrytis, because i needed some comfort scent for the stressful situation at work. Had to stay hungry until 3pm because i had a gastroscopy, but luckily nothing harmful found.
Went to my favorite falafel place in Stuttgart afterwards, then some sniffing at Mußlers and the Schlossparfumerie. The later have some interesting niche perfumes and the SA seem really knowledgable. Got to sniff Tabac Blond for the first time. Its good, but i don’t need a bottle.
I’m glad your test results were so good! I’m sorry work is so stressful. I hope it improves in the near future.
Yay for good test results! That’s one less thing for you to be concerned about now.
The wind is blasting the rain at my windows so I’m glad to be warm and dry inside. I was recently gifted three Pilates sessions and went to my first one this morning. I have a feeling that by Wednesday I am going to be in so much pain, my butt already hurts. No naturals for me today, I came home craving a BWF so I’m wearing Chanel Gardenia parfum.
SOTD: Covet and Nyquil
Wisdom of the Day: DO NOT put a brand-new, full bottle of Nyquil in your purse — unless you are CERTAIN that the child-proof cap is seated properly on top.
Why didn’t someone warn me that it’s Monday?
Oh no!!! What a Monday!
Today’s been all sideways, for sure!
Rut row…..the purse is gonna need a bath tonight!
That purse is a goner, I’m afraid.
Noooo! Feel better ?
Thank you, Coin-op; I feel like I’m just catching up with everyone else who has sick lately.
“been” sick
Oh nooooo. Sorry to read about your NyQuil disaster, and hope you’re not (too) sick!
Thanks; I’m not in too bad a shape, I think. Am remembering your dad and little Mayhem this week.
Thank you, FearsMice <3
Oh boy. That sounds like it was very unpleasant. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.
Yes, I’m hoping Tuesday will turn out better — for all of us!
If it’s brand-new, how is the cap askew ?
Um, well, because I skewered it?… 😀
Testing JD Jeffrey Dame Mimosa Mixte (the JD line is signed by Hugh Spencer, not Jeffrey). This is a pleasant yellow floral with a vanilla-ish drydown. Easy to wear. I did not have such luck with the JD Duality Woman. The opening was interesting – lots of notes including some citrus and spice – but the drydown was not good on my skin – not even sure how to describe – sharp and unpleasant. The samples are oils – it seems Jeffrey is moving toward only doing oil samples, his artist collection no longer has edp samples (postal issues, maybe?) I’m not a fan of oils because even after moisturizing my dry skin, they disappear so quickly. There are a few others in the JD line but at $8 per 2ml oil, I’m not sure I’ll test them.
Yeah… I hate oil samples. I don’t really like the feel on my skin, and the projection is always very different than the alcohol-based perfume. It’s a shame all his new samples seem to be oils.
That’s too bad about Dame changing their sample format.
I noticed that too. I was going to order another BFMV sample spray, but the only option was full bottle or oil, so money saved for me. Thanks for the mini reviews
Late to the page today…..one of those Mondays! (Thank goodness it’s nearly over!) 🙂
I went to Ulta yesterday for a quick minute and sprayed some new stuff on my person….I happened to wear the same sweater today, so absolutely no scent was needed today. I’m still projecting leftovers of Black Opium Intense, Dior Joy, Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu, and something in a pink bottle with pink juice that I can’t remember….LOL
Anyhoo, the Black Opium Intense is still projecting at 100% volume….a wee bit stronger than I normally wear, but it’s pretty….
Jada, if you’re still looking for a travel spray of Jasmine Marzipan I saw it on the Neiman Marcus website the other day.
You must smell… intense…
I think I’m gonna get that one….I saw the Oud Bouquet one too though….. 🙂
I did get the 14ml Iris Dragees last week! First try…didn’t like it too much. Second try….liked it. Third try…enjoyed it! 🙂
Oh, I bet the perfume grinch is having a great day! Lol
LOL Lucky for me (or him?) we were short staffed and we kept too busy to sit around much….he missed the sweater bomb! 🙂
I’d like to smell the Intense. Did you get much coffee out of it?
I get less coffee and more sweetness on my skin with the intense! But I fell ya, when I got home the sweater was still going strong…in the wash now! LOL
Tell ya….not fell ya…. 🙂
Antony is a fell ya ???
I wore Phlur’s Moab yesterday and Jo Malone’s Mimosa and Cardamom today. I seem to be doing a personal project of scents that start with M. Wonder how far I can take it?
Well now you’ll have to find out!
Commando today because we went early to the Westminster dog show’s breed judging, which started at 8 am. Exhausting. And we are doing both days, so we will be back there tomorrow morning. So many dogs! And they’re all so sweet and good natured when you visit in the benching area. Doubtful any I saw today will win their groups…I saw mostly the more unusual breeds.
Jealous!!!!
Can’t wait to watch it!
That sounds like it would be very interesting.
Robin, I hope that you are enjoying your vacation so far! You will be very happy to have missed today’s weather, which included about an inch or so of very heavy, wet snow. The overnight forecast into Tuesday has even more “Ick”… the dreaded “Wintry Mix” and “Sleet” were mentioned. ?⛄
SOTD = Annick Goutal Heure Exquise EdP, from the sample/decant stash. THUNK! I wore this on Saturday and Sunday as well, and really understood for the first time how iris can be a “chilly” note. Thanks to the generous NSTer who sent me this beauty to try!
Thank you so much, Jalapeno, for the rose tea suggestions the other day.
I made note of every one of them. Will report back once I’ve tried them. Stay warm!
I hope that at least one of them works out for you, adanst! I just remembered that The Republic of Tea has an herbal tea that contains raspberries, hibiscus, and rose in it. So I have a late addition to the list.

Doing my best to stay warm!
Stay safe from that wintery mix!
Will do! I have hot cocoa and marshmallows ready in case they are needed for tomorrow. ☕
You smelled wonderful! Hope you are feeling a bit better now; remembering our lost loved ones can be sweet, but painful no matter how much time passes…
Thanks, FearsMice! I had a nice, uneventful weekend.
On the one hand, I am sorry you had more winter yuck! On the other, if it was 60 and gorgeous there I’d be wasting a lot of money here, right?
Total CP failure in Juliette has a gun, Not a perfume ?
It actually totally smells like a perfume of course, and nothing else to me
It’s ok, but I do love the fake-o stories that are attached to most frags – this is not for me!
I couldn’t really smell Not a Perfume the first time I tried it.
Chanel Cuir de Russie
Yum.
Late, late late!
I hate winter
My favorite weatherman quit
I don’t blame him, it’s just to much!
Sotd, Tabbaco Vanille, for the first time, thanks to the freebiemeet! I think I over applied, but that’s ok, I was at work and didn’t want anyone to talk to me anyway ?
?
Aw, that’s a bummer about your fav weatherman! At least you are enjoying your SOTD.
Sometimes the weatherpeople are way bigger stars than the anchors! Geeky-cool.
Wearing Wowilla oil tonight with a few sprays of Agent Provocateur. Its still cold and dry out so I figured the oil would be beneficial tonight.
Anyone have other ideas of what to combine/layer with Wowilla?
Wowilla smells like vanilla, right? Then I would suggest either roses or incense as a pairing.
Yes, its vanilla. Thanks for the suggestions, Jalapeno!
Commenting late, but yesterday’s SOTD was Jeffrey Dame’s Monsoon. I just got an order from him with samples, so I think this will be Jeffrey Dame Week!
