(Quick PSA: I am leaving town to help a family member. I was already behind — I have not even finished reading the comments for Friday's scent of the day — and I will probably take a bit to catch up.)
We're celebrating National Brownie Day (and the rest of the weekend) with our usual lazy weekend open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite baked-goods fragrance, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: top image is I love this crisp streaking light achieved by combining natural and strobe. I also love brownies... [cropped and rotated] by Joe St.Pierre at flickr; some rights reserved.
Happy Saturday and not a minute too soon. It was another crazy week at work.
I’m wearing some DSH Lumiere lotion at the moment and (appropriately) it could be a baked goods scent, definitely holidayish.
My favorite brownie recipe (and I’ve made lots) is Katharine Hepburn’s version for a fudgy, chewy type. Maybe I’ll make some today.
I will have to look up her recipe, although have not made brownies in eons. I still like looking at recipes 🙂
I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus today. I smell like really luxe soap – not really what I was aiming for, but it is fine enough for my morning. Almost all other OJ scents enchant me with their top notes, and I usually have to talk myself out of immediately plonking my credit card down and buying an FB. The compulsion passes after an hour or so. Osmanthus progresses in the other direction, oddly. The top notes don’t thrill me, but each time I sniff my wrist I become more pleased.
Yes! I react the same way to Osmanthus. I love it. Still working on my decant.
I love Osmanthus. I don’t think it’s as popular as some of her other scents, but it’s one of the first of my sampler set that I drained because it is just so easy to wear. The Guide called it “the equivalent of a pretty cotton sundress.” You smell lovely!
Me, too — an hour of love, and then — underwhelming. Or worse, nice shampoo. I am so glad you mentioned this, because I’d begin to worry that I was missing something, when so many love this line. But — body chemistry! Perception! OJ just doesn’t work for me, and that’s fine.
Happy saturday! It’s stormy here and I’m cocooning in my brand new L’Artisan Parfumeur Histoire d’Orangers. Love it! I wanted a ‘thicker’ orangeblossom and this one is perfect. Thought that I had fallen for Noir Exquis smelling a blotter in the shop, but turned out very (too) sweet on skin. Pfieuw, that saves me money!
I do love NE but can’t see needing more than 15 ml, whereas you need lots of any good orange blossom 🙂
NE in old packaging is on discount and I want to love it. The brain-nose-connection is a strange one….
I’m also puzzled by Seville a l’Aube. So many raving reviews but on me it smells like rhubarb. And not in a good way.
I get tortillas ???
Wow, that’s worse than sour rhubarb?!
Exactly what my sister gets.
You’re so right Robin! Orangeblossom is my new favorite flower.
You make Histoire d’Orangers sound lovely.
It is!! Better than Le Labo Fleur d’Oranger on me. I usually want something ‘more’ when I wear that one. Although it is very pretty.
Late to the CP party yet Honourable BWF Mention to Ysatis. Gosh, I wore it yesterday to go to the office Christmas party. How good is that perfume.
Also thumbs up to mixing modern sweet orange blossom with old 50s animalics a la Revlon Intimate. I’ve something approaching a dirty sweet earthy scent here on my forearm :D.
Hope the party was worth of the perfume!
Happy Saturday from a much more well-rested me than yesterday! I got 9 glorious hours of uninterrupted sleep last night and feel pretty great right now. I hear my boyfriend is just rising in the bedroom, whereas I got up more than an hour and a half ago. He also went to bed much later though. I’m hoping to get going to brunch soon. We’re walking about 20 minutes to finally eat in person at the new second location of a restaurant we’ve loved via delivery for a couple years. Then we may check out the Christmas decorations downtown while we’re over that way.
This morning I’m trying out Bruno Fazzolari Vetiverissimo, which will likely be my scent of the first half of the day. It’s a dark, earthy vetiver and cedar with a little bit of sparkle that wears close to the skin. It’s good stuff, but if I’m being honest the type of vetiver that excites me more is the brighter kind in MM Hemingway or Chris Rusak 33. This is a good cozy vetiver.
Last night I tried Mona di Orio Santal Nabataea, which I’ll describe as sandalwood soda in the style of The Guide’s two word summary. I gave it only one spray, so I’ll give it a real wearing soon.
Mmmm brownies. I may eat a brownie later this evening. For a fantastic brownie perfume, there’s only one for me – Smell Bent Hungry Hungry Hippies. Patchouli pot brownies. Yum.
Finally, does anyone use Softsoap Bright Citrus hand soap? I bought it for the first time a couple weeks ago and can’t get over how much it smells like Infusion d’Iris. I love it! It’s worth a try as a possible cheap thrill to those IdI lovers.
Congrats, 9 hours of good sleep is an accomplishment! And now I will have to look for that soap.
I think Vetiverissimo may be my seasonal gift-to-self. Reminds me of my Nippon Kodo Naturesense Vetiver and Chamomile incense (recommend!) I like it’s coziness but it’s also light and sheer.
I just got a sample pack from Chris R. I really liked Io! Good replacement for anyone who misses SSS evocative forest and incense scents. 33 was too green and intense for me, vetiver wise. Will probably pass it on to a friend who likes vetiver.
I also sampled Santal Nabatea and really like it. I can’t quite describe it but sandalwood soda sounds kinda right, lol. It’s also got a lightness and mellowness to it which I like.
Glad you got rest and sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday (and glad your bf is mended!)
Yay ElisaP! Another nod for Io !
I bought a FB. There’s just something about it that really calls to me, it’s not just the incense, it’s the other woody/leafy earth notes that blend so beautifully together. It is a very well made scent and extremely comfortable.
I really enjoyed Qua as well. I haven’t opened my 33 sample yet- Now I need to! I would love to try that chamomile incense!
Hi NST! I have a question this morning. I’m interested in exploring Les Parfums de Rosine but have no idea where to start. I love a range of rosy and rose-ish perfumes: MFK’s A La Rose, FM Lipstick Rose, Chanel Misia, OJ Ta’if, Amouage Epic, POAL, but I’m not great at determining from a list of notes what might appeal. Does anyone have a favorite from LPdR?
I tried several LPdR’s perfumes (and wouldn’t mind trying more but the only store that used to carry it, Barneys, stopped several years ago, at least in SF), but my absolute favorite (I’m on the second bottle of it) is Rose d’Amour. I also liked Roseberry and Rose d’Ete but I haven’t smelled those in years.
Thank you! I’ll definitely check out all three of I can find them.
I wish I could get my hands on a sample set. I see they used to have one.
I second Rose d’Amour.
Ok. That’s two for two!
I’ve tried a bunch at Aedes which carries them inconsistently. Apparently the brand is difficult to work with in maintaining stock, so I was told by the SA. Anyway, the standouts for me were Rose Kashmiri which is on the sweeter, wintry side, powdery and balsamic. I also thought Rose Praline was fun: kind of a chocolatey rose, but not overly sweet or too gourmand. Beauty Habit still carries a number if them and they do samples there, I think.
Thanks, Elisa! I didn’t realize Beauty Habit offered samples. I’m all over it!
Good luck, Robin with your travels and your assistance.
Interlude….thunk.
Frances Denny, Interlude?, and if it is, I can’t believe your skin could eat that!? one drop almost killed me once!
The Amouge….
Last night I sampled Guerlain Baiser de Russie (sp???) and while I liked longevity was only a few minutes… I kept respraying it because I loved the opening. Point is, my skin devours scent.
Has your skin always devoured scent, or have you found that it has varied over time? I ask because I used to have perfume-eating skin, but menopause seems to have changed things a bit. I wouldn’t say I have scent glue skin now–not by a long shot–but things that used to wear off in an hour or so now last maybe three or four hours, which I consider acceptable. i have seen others comment that pregnancy or other medical conditions have affected their tastes and preferences or the longevity of scent on their skin.
I think longevity might be more of a current issues…the powerhouses I wore decades ago did last longer.
Oh, right… my brain didn’t even go to Amouage! I’m not very familiar with them. I’m on the lookout now for a perfume that is up for the challenge for you!?
I found two recently that last… Casablanca and Estate Vetiver.
And perhaps one day I will try Jungle Elephant as lots of folks say that one is a powerhouse.
I don’t know how interested you are in vintage, but I find vintage perfume to be generally longer lasting than contemporary perfumes. The longest lasting thing I have ever tried was some vintage Secret de Venus. It is hard to find and not cheap, but a little really does go a long way. One little dab of that lasted for nearly 24 hours on me. It smells wonderful, but putting it on is a real commitment.
I wore vintage before it was vintage ?. I agree with what you stated. The colognes of long ago were more potent than today’s EDPs.
Thank you cm8!
Wanted something simple and undemanding today, so I’m in SL Un Bois Vanille.
Robin, hope things get all straightened out…!
All is well, thanks Deva!
Un Bois Vanille is very cosy, you smell delicious.
I have been testing some new samples. Earlier I had on 8160 Tuesdays The Sexiest Scent on the Planet (IMHO). Suffice it to say that it is no such thing, at least to my nose. I found it extremely irritating. It started out OK, but within an hour it become dominated by a note I can only describe as burnt plastic. I scrubbed it off and now have Pink Wood on one arm and Pichola on the other. Both of them are much better. I don’t “need” either one, but Pink Wood might become a contender if I didn’t already have so much perfume. I do wish I had larger spray samples of both. It is so hard to tell from a dabber vial.
I so agree with you on the “Sexiest Scent…” but the brand seems to be everybody’s darling so I keep my opinions to myself and just don’t write anything.
These days I rarely want a spray sample: usually only after I already tried and liked perfume, otherwise, even a tiny spritz is too much of a commitment 🙂
I think that “Sexiest Scent” is the only one I have tried from the line so far, so I can’t comment on the line as a whole. Some of them do sound interesting, but there are too many perfumes out there for me to try even 5% of them. I pretty much say what I think about any perfume, and everyone else can do the same.
Oh, I didn’t mean here, in a SOTD thread – of course, here we all can express our opinions. I was referring to not writing about it on my blog: regardless of how small the audience of it is, a negative opinion might do damage to a small brand. Also, I wouldn’t want my readers who are on friendly terms with the perfumer to either feel they have to defend the brand or to skip commenting not to be put in that position.
IIRC that one is a lot of iso e super, and not altogether different from Ormonde Jayne Isfarkand? With maybe a bit more vanilla…if I am even remembering the right scent. In which case if you don’t love iso e super it is not going to be the sexiest 🙂
Be well, Robin! Have a good time out of town.
Brownie day!!! I love brownies. In tribute-ish, I think my SOTD (after I go swimming) will be Eau des Missions from a decant kindly sent to me by an NSTer when I discovered that it had been discontinued. I can’t believe I have no chocolatey perfumes.
Being on a perfume no-buy opens up a bunch of money to donate! This morning was spent giving thousands to public radio and choosing the right charities for the rest of my donation money. I’m liking the Bail Project. What are your favorite charities?
Last night I went to a concert by the a cappella group I was in during grad school. Almost everyone in the group is an undergrad, and those freshmen are SO TINY. I can’t believe I was ever so young and bright-eyed. Anyway, they sounded great, and I was thrilled to hop up for the alum song. It’s nice living near my grad school 🙂
Thank you Koyel!
I had not even heard of the Bail Project, so thank you for that too.
Hi Koyel! Charity Navigator is a good resource for seeing what charities do with their money and which organizations have the best track record for using the funds toward the stated aims. We use it to help us make decisions about donations.
Oh that’s great, thanks for the tip!
I’ve been making up some decants this morning so have Misia and Apres l’Ondee out. It seemed so obvious with both in front of me to spray and compare. Having a lot of both on at the same time really brings the iris in both to the forefront. AL is just so soft, very pretty but completely overpowered by Misia which is no powerhouse either.
Hallooo from a wet South Africa!Wonderful rain today, much needed to break the heatwave we’ve had for weeks!
I’ve been absent from NST for a while:Life.Work.
SOTD Berdoues Violettes de Toulouse Edp.One of my favorite violet perfumes ever.
I received two perfumed letters this past week, and I am thrilled!
I loved your choice of stationery Cazaubon!
I could still smell remnants of L’Atessa on Perfumelover67’s letter.Thank you guys!
Halpy Weekend All!
X
Welcome back! Are you on your big vacation now?
Thank you!
One week to go then I am on leave!
??❤️
Hi you!!! Have been thinking about you recently! Glad that you are well!
In my mind L’Atessa=pl67 ???
And now I’m curious as to what fragrance Cazaubon sprayed on her stationery!!
I can’t remember it’s been so long! They must have sent it by flying squirrel and carrier pigeon.
Ha!! Yes it really was a long time ago and I think we all assumed they got lost!
I’ve given up hope too…lol. But really glad it finally made it to me,6 months later!!Haha!??✌??
I’ll email you guys shortly!Hope you are well B!??❤️
life is crazy but all is good 🙂
That stationery was brought back from Japan by my husband on one of his business trips.
I love beautiful stationery, and yours fits perfectly with my Asian-inspired decor!
It still does smell of something-something though!Haha!
You posted June 1st,and PL67 posted hers June 10th,They arrived two days apart last week!Love it.❤️❤️?
It’s good to see you back, johanob! I hope you’ll get the rest of the letters in the coming days and weeks. ?
I hope so as well!So please keep them coming everyone who wanted to write!❤️❤️
Welcome back Johanob, very glad for you that a long holiday is coming soon.
Stopped by ULTA before work and sprayed the Kimoji Cherry again, I’m liking it more and more, the syrupy part leaves pretty quickly, and now I have cherry, musk, and a touch of tobacco drying down. Hopefully everyone has a great weekend!, I will be working, but no snow, so it’s all good???
No snow is ALWAYS good ???
Hope your workday goes by fast! No snow here either and we actually got a couple hours of sun this morning!
I tried that tonight when I was in Ulta. Still in the early stages and a bit too sweet for me, but we’ll see what happens with the drydown.
Report back on what you think.
Started the morning with Fils de Dieu, tested a TINY spray of Kenzo Jungle Elefant at the drugstore. Even the tiniest spray lasted for hours.
Baked three sorts of Christmas cookies with my boyfriend. Then went to a Christmas Market nearby. Had some sausage rolls, arancini and a nice hot drink called Blonde Angel, mad e from White wine, rum and eggyolk liquor topped with whipped cream.
Will go to the Movies tomorrow for Queen. Loved Freddie so much…..
I’d love to try that drink!
Its delicious, but you should have just one!
Mmm…brownies! One of my holy trinity of weaknesses, the other two being cookies and ice cream. Some people are ‘salt’ people and some are ‘sweet.’ I am definitely the later. I could easily give up potato chips for the rest of my life, but I love to eat cookies, almost daily I’m afraid.? My favorite brownies (other than my moms homemade) are 365 brand two-bite brownies. They are so, so good.
SotD is Vanille Insensee. I wore this to work the other day and one of my co-workers said she just wanted to follow me around all day because I smelled so good. This is becoming a no-brainer for me and one of my desert island pics for sure.
And there you are!
I was in the basement this morning sniffing my middle one’s bottle of VI and thought of you…. and you are wearing it! When does madtownteen come home? Bet you’re excited ??
And I am salty and sweet…. actually I am eat anything that gets placed in front of me !!!
Hey there! Yeah, this is becoming as close to a signature scent as I’ve gotten in recent years.
Yes! Madtownteen comes home the week of the 17th!? I will go over to her university to get her after her finals are done. We’re planning a dorm sleepover her last night (she has her own room this semester) should be fun!
Nice! Lucky her having her own room!!!
It’s a gross, cold rainy day so I wanted something warm and comforting. I chose Like This, and am super happy with my decision. I love this stuff. Kind of wish I’d gotten the bigger bottle… I feel like I’m wrapped in a hug and yes, things will be OK.
Have a relaxing, refreshing weekend everyone.
I get that same feeling from Dries Van Noten, going to put some on right now for that fragrant hug.
Having a great day today! Bought a Christmas present for my mom and found some shirts that will be a gift for me under the tree.
I was accompanied by 1725 from Histoires de Parfums.
Which one is that–the Colette one? Anyway, I do love the Colette one.
1725 is Casanova
Inspired by Deva earlier this week, I’m in PG Indochine today, from a tiny dabber vial. On me, it started out so similar to Tam Dao that I nearly dismissed it, but now that some time has gone by some significant differences are beginning to emerge. Indochine has more of some unusual dusky spice, and a woodiness that maybe is sandalwood but is different than Tam Dao’s sandalwood vibe. I like it!
And now I’m off to do battle at a few of my favorite holiday-decor places – my house will be taken over with shrieking soccer fans in a few hours, so I’m amusing myself elsewhere. Happy weekend, all!
Twins! Indochine is my favorite go to autumn scent. It’s understated like tam dao but has a more exotic vibe. Love your description.
Hi twin! 🙂
My, what a slow day in terms of commenting! People must either have the perfume doldrums or else are out Christmas shopping (and buying brownies). I’ve been working VERY hard on a major rearrangement of the two rooms on the top floor of my house, to make one my mom’s room for five months and the other my study. (Right now my study has flowed over into both rooms.) Since we’re having dark rainy weather I am enjoying staying in and cleaning/sorting/throwing away, but I still have a lot to do. I shopped at Pier One today and bought a nice lamp on clearance as well as a sitting chair for my mom that was inexpensive but looks quite nice–I sat in it too and felt it would be comfortable for her–she’s very tiny. Tomorrow I’m planning to go get my Christmas tree and then a friend will help me decorate it on Monday. I wore Camel today which is a very interesting fragrance that goes through many changes. I’m loving it. Finally, as to brownies, I knew someone who always made the Duncan Hines cream cheese chocolate brownies from a box mix and seriously, I think they would be hard to beat, though I haven’t looked to see if they still make them. (Long story, but she was the maid for a wealthy couple in Pittsburgh. The husband, despite being a prominent gastroenterologist, ONLY ate those brownies + Diet Coke, and she made a batch of them every day. I swear I’m not making this up.)
https://www.duncanhines.ca/recipes/brownies/balladelady/cream-cheese-brownies/
Well, that looks absolutely delish! If I had an oven, I’d be baking them right now! ?
ThankU Calypso. A must try, I think cream cheese and chocolate are an amazing combo!!
That’s hilarious about the gastroenterologist. I was busy most of the day working on projects around the house and at the park with the dog, heading out for a brownie shortly.
I started off testing Mon Guerlain and Mon Exclusif on my arms. Almost no difference between the two, and poor longevity of both. Switching now to Dries Van Noten for the evening, going out for a brownie with ice cream. 🙂
Good to know because that is what I heard, but never tried the Exclusif.
I’m in Perfect Veil today, from the discovery set I recently bought during a Beautyhabit sale. This is perfect for gym workouts and when you just want to keep a low scent profile.
I was in Musc Ravageur yesterday, and I think I’m in love. Basenotes says lavender is a top note, but I don’t get lavender at all. Shoot, I’ll be forced to wear it again tomorrow and see if I get lavender!
Does anyone get lavender from Musc Rav?
No, I don’t get lavender at all. Last time I wore it, the cloves were really coming through on my skin.
I don’t remember cloves specifically, but I just huffed the sample and…..hello cloves! Thanks for helping me with that note!
I get a boatload of dry spices. No musk and no lavender. I was a bit disappointed.
I get warming spices, vanilla and soft musk. It’s a little stronger than a typical comfort scent, but it’s in that same vein.
Oh look, I’m still at work… open til midnight. I’m now wearing Ambre Narguile from the purse sample stash, I smell great on a 19 degree night! I made my coworker smell my wrist, he said I smelled powdery, and made a squishy face LOL. I saw the Marshalls near me is carrying some Guerlain, including Chamade, which I haven’t smelled, but thought it was an odd one to see. Prices were not great at all though. Sorry for the rambling… I’m tired and bored.
Oh, and twice now, meant to say..
Bear, I hope you ate a brownie today!?and look what I found⚪⚫??⭕??
Excellent lillyjo !!! ?????⚾⚽?
No brownie today, when I was a kid I always ate treats.
Now I have to be in the mood……….??
old people!!!! ???
???✌?
I’m old and alas am always in the mood for a treat!
As am I..on both counts!
Perfume twins, I love Ambre Narguile, it’s elegant and warm. Sorry to hear about the looong work day.
Open till midnight? That’s crazy! Although, I must confess, I have some childhood memories of my mom dragging me through Zayres for Midnight Madness. I remember it looking like a tornado had gone through…?
Next week, open till one!
Lillyjo, I’m so sorry! Right here and now, in a public forum, I promise to NEVER shop after 10pm (unless it’s a 24 hour store)! If I can get the world to promise with me, you get to go home early!! ??
My diabolical plan, if I ever get to retire: I am going to go into 9 to 5 places at 4:57 and just start asking questions, so no one gets to leave on time. Lol, ” so… I’m thinking about getting a loan for a boat, how would that work?” ?
1! That is crazy.
Happy Saturaday, or what’s left of it!
No brownies for me today, sadly. But I did just get back from eating Thai food with friends. One is a guy who shares some interest in perfume. We were sniffing each other’s wrists- he was wearing a sample something from MCMC which I could barely smell, and I’m wearing Lampblack tonight. He liked it but another friend smelled me and told me she hated it. Oh, well.
Best of luck with your family, Robin!
Food, friends, and perfume. Sounds like a good night?
Hey, glad your tum tum has recovered!
Thank you!
It’s Sunday morning and quite blustery but mild. I am wearing A*Men Pure Malt, boozy and really one of my favorite whisky scent, but later today, in honor of National Brownie Day the plan is to change to Missoni Gianduia, from experience the Pure Malt will still be going strong, I will see how they behave together.
Hoping your stay out of town will have a good outcome, Robin.
Everything is fine, thanks Aurora! And you smell great.
Mona di Orio Oud….I will be wearing this decant all week because it’s that good.
and now I am testing SL Santal Blanc
How is it? I have not tried a recent version.
My guess is that this is an old version. It’s an adorable mini splash. It’s foody to my wonky nose in a spicy cumin sort of way with a nice sandalwood touch. It will be my evening scent for the week and when I thunk it on to the tree the bottle goes!
It’s still cold and rainy. I’m wearing Gallivant’s Brooklyn, and trying to bring myself to leave the house to do errands. Have a great Sunday!
Life twins with you this morning. It is also cold and rainy, and I’ve spent the morning bargaining with myself over chores. I’ll go for groceries at 9:30. Well, ok, 10:00. 10:30 would still give me lots of time, right?…
Im in galop by hermes – this definitely shares something crucial with myrhhe eglantine.. Hermes and Guerlain are my two favorite non-niche houses but they are so different from each other. Funny how they works
Going out for our anniversary dinner tonight and will switch to Lune Feline by atelier des ors.
Happy Anniversary! Love Galop, you smell great!
Thank you!
Do you have Galop? I got a small decant in the last swapmeet I would be happy to send to someone who loves it. I thought I would based on the notes, but alas I think I am just not a leather girl, BV didn’t work for me either. Email me at pkwisdom in the yahooland if you’d like it.
Happy anniversary! I love Galop also. Have fun at dinner tonight. ?
Happy anniversary! Lune Feline is gorgeous.
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Hope you had a lovely anniversary dinner, Yasmina.
Yesterday was Noir de Noir from a decant. Many sprays. Decadent. Last Sunday I wore a shirt that I sprayed with St. Clair Casablanca. I wore that shirt last night, and the remnants of Casablanca from my sleeve actually transferred to my arm. That’s pretty amazing tenacity.
Nothing today, yet. After I get my Habanita Parfum, and a no-sleep buy last night of Gallagher Rose’ All Dae, I am going to commit to no full bottles until December 2019. I’m toying with creating an Instagram documenting 365 days of perfume. Last year I started a perfume journal and made it to March ?
I think your Instagram idea is fabulous! I’d follow in a heartbeat??
Aww cool!! Thanks!! Maybe you can please share some tips on how to start?
Well, I’m pretty tech stupid, so I had to go to youtube and look up Instagram tutorials. Then, you just do your own thing…! I started as a pictorial travel journal for myself, because it’s easy to forget the little pleasures in life when you’re swamped with the big irritations. So, I would say make it your own, be creative, and do what you want .
I take all photos with my phone because it’s convenient. And because I’m lazy. But, if you go all out with equipment, just remember Instagram “dumbs down” the detail and clarity to a certain pixel number.
Above all, have fun with it! ??
That’s so helpful Deva!! I’m not tech savvy at all, so I’ll write down your tips and see what happens!
I thought for sure you would be buying a bottle of Casablanca 😉
Ha yes you are correct — that’s on my list. I wonder if it’ll be in stock for awhile or is it a limited edition type?
It’s selling fast so I think she’s made a new batch..but that needs to settle. I am planning on another sample around my birthday late spring…
And what I failed to say is that I think it will stay in her collection.
I love your Instagram idea! No tips on how to get started from me, as I don’t have an account. I’ve been keeping a perfume journal all year and am looking forward to running some statistical analyses on it in January!
Will you share what was your most worn perfume and/or house of 2018? Do you have an idea so far?p
I sure will share once I know 🙂 I have no idea so far! If I had to guess, I’d say Hermès. We’ll see if I’m right!
I’m interested in what you think of the Rose all Dae.
I’ll be sure to report back. I bought it blind because of a YouTube reviewer and found a good deal price-wise
I know, YouTube is all over this one. I think alot of them were sent bottles, so curious if it deserves the hype. I hope you really like it!?
Yup! You nailed it ?
I’d follow your instagram also! There are several who post here and also have an IG account.
Hmm, maybe I’ll join you in documenting my fragrance of the day…here’s the link to mine in case anyone wants to follow.
https://www.instagram.com/nlmcook/
So neat, thanks and I’ll follow you also once I get up and going.
Cool, thanks, flopper! ?
Just started following you! That van is awesome and looks like it could be a Madison transplant. It has my favorite bumper sticker of all time…”The best things in life aren’t things.”☺️
Oh, thank you madtowngirl! I just followed you back. ???
I would totally follow you!
Do you have any college age kiddos coming for the holidays? My son helped me start my account, because I am not very tech savvy. Like Deva, I take all my photos from my phone and once you have an account, it is pretty easy peasy.
I’m the same on Instagram as far as not being terribly familiar. I’d follow you. And Deva’s idea of tutorials is great.
You should do it! I have a friend who did 365 Days of Beef last year. He stayed very healthy, but it was pretty funny to see how many ways he could cook beef.
? Habinita!
Must sample Casablanca.
Need to be on a ‘No-buy’ moratorium.
SoTD: Fiore d’Ambra
Weekends are my resting/sampling time, and I meant to retry ELDO Rien today, but the little vial of Feu Secret caught my attention instead. Am falling hard for it – hard enough that I have a bottle in my cart at Lucky Scent. Mind you, there are several other bottles in that cart at present, and I have no intention of pressing the order button until I’m really sure about one of them …. or maybe two. Not three … definitely not three. (And now I have Michael Palin in my head, holding the Holy Hand Grenade and intoning, THREE shall be the count!)
BF strikes again! ?
I say you deserve 3, just for making a Holy Grail reference!??
Yup!! ?
Feu Secret is lovely. I just succumbed to another bottle of Ummagumma.
Did some Christmas shopping last night and this morning. I do most of my shopping online. Old Navy e-mailed me saying that they ran out of what I ordered and canceled my order. I am kind of steamed about that. Guess I will go to a physical store and get a sweater for my friend. Said friend is a sloppy dresser and oblivious. He will wear sweat pants and a stained, old t tshirt to a formal function and think it’s okay. Found a book for a coworker and pajama pants for my dad off of Amazon. I just have to wait until the Nintendo NES comes back into stock on Amazon, then I can order it and have it shipped to my nephews. Woke up in Memoir and about to wear some vintage Mitsouko today. Sorry about the rambling post.
I liked hearing about your shopping adventures, Dawn! It’s such a drag when you find out after ordering that your item isn’t available. For the first time in ~4 decades, I’ve escaped my family’s Christmas grab-bag thing. I just told him to leave me out this year. Always disliked it because it just seems so pointless to me: Everyone pretty much knows what they’re getting, because they’ve been asked. So it seems like we just go around exchanging $50 bills with each other. We also do a so-called Yankee Swap, which is usually a blast.
You smell great in both Memoir and Mitsouko! Hope Old Navy has want you’re looking for in stock.
This is why I don’t even bother with the Sephora VIB sale anymore- everything I plan on purchasing is always sold out??
PSA:
Calling all Pat McGrath fans, her website is 25% off everything with code VIP25….just in case you’ve been eyeing an expensive purchase or two?
That didn’t escape my attention! Picked up a red Blitztrance and a backup of my fave Luxetrance. Patting myself on the back for making it outta there for less than $60.
Kudos to you! ?
Oh ho! Her lip balms and glosses are fab. I’ve considered her eyeshadows, but the colors are a bit bright for my ghostly skin, and I am so saturated with ES palettes, it isn’t even funny.
omg thank you! I was unaware! made my day!!
It’s a good thing I never heard of Pat McGrath ?
SHE is very talented! I love her lip product lines, the colors are beautiful and the texture feels luxurious.
Enjoying all your comments; I’m learning so much! I asked for a fragrance sample during a sale in Sephora yesterday, and the young woman put in Terre d’Hermes EDT for MEN. I was disappointed.
Welp, this is a testimonial to how intrepid Robin, Angela, et al (plus all of you commenting) have encouraged me to be: I sprayed it on anyway and really like it. I read Robin’s review from ’06 as I sniffed. I’m wild about the smell of cedar (possibly from hiding in my family’s cedarwood chifforobe so much when I was little), and this EDT certainly delivers in that category.
So my question to you all is: what could I combine this with to make it slightly more feminine and wearable to work? I tend to favor green or citrus florals with woody undertones, and this would certainly provide the wood base part.
I own Hermes’ Merveilles eau Bleue & Un Jardin sur le Toit, Chanel’s Chance Eau Fresh (Cristalle EDT is still en route), L’eau d’Issey, SJP Stash, Nest’s Indigo & Midnight Fleur (tiny daubers), plus just ordered the Seven Virtues Peace Blend Box from Sephora, which has these EDPs: Orange Blossom, Adventurous Rose Amber, Vetiver Elemi, Grapefruit Lime, Patchouli Citrus, Jasmine Neroli, & Vanilla Woods.
Is there any combo that I should avoid or just try them all with the Hermes Terre and discover what my nose tells me? Thank you!
I don’t have any layering idea’s, but next time you are in Sephora, you should be able to ask them to make you up to 3 samples from the testers. Even if you don’t make a purchase.
Thanks, I’ll ask them next time I visit.
I would start by trying it with any of the florals from your 7 Virtues box. I would think it would also work fine with the grapefruit, but not sure that will make it any more feminine.
Have you tried any of the Atelier’s? I don’t know about layering, but many of them have citrus in the notes.
I agree with madtowngirl on the citrus. I once accidentally sprayed Terre d’ Hermes (not sure if it was EDT or EDP) at Duty Free. While it wasn’t bad, it was way too masculine. I saw Guerlain Mandarine Basilic and layered it on…and all was right with the world!
All good ideas, thank you!
Commando today because everything irritates me right now! Probably because I’m irritable. I don’t want to risk wearing a favorite and then getting annoyed by it, so I’ll be nekkid today.
I’m enjoying reading about everyone’s baking and Christmas activities. Hope all those who were in the path of the winter storm weathered it ok! ❄️?
You’re far more restrained than I am. When I have those fussy days, I usually end up trying a different perfume every hour in an attempt to get it right. And then I end up really stinky AND dissatisfied. Nekkid is probably the better way to go.
I am having an irritable day too.? It’s probably a good thing I go back to work tomorrow. I kind of have to be nice to people there, lol.
Sunday afternoon, cuddling with the puppy. I’m wearing Profumum Battito d’Ali.
I was commando until just now. I sprayed on a bit of vintage Wrappings on one wrist and a spray of current Wrappings on the other. Both are very good! Thanks Smoky Toes, you’ve earned an enabler’s pin.
I scored a bottle today at the outlet mall (the duo with lotion to be exact). The bottle I attempted to order online last week or so was available (apparently), but then 2 days later I received an email that it wasn’t in stock, and my order was cancelled. Then they sent me an email that my parcel was on the way; I was a bit confused. What they sent me was only the additional “freebie” I chose – via UPS. Really? I thought that was a bit weird. Hopefully I won’t have to pay shipping for a freebie item.
I can sympathize with others frustration regarding online orders. When I checked online the next day it actually said Wrappings (the exact item and at the same price I attempted to order) was still available.. I’m not sure what that means because the CS rep said it didn’t look like they were getting any more in. Hopefully no one else will feel that same frustration of cancelled online orders.
SOTM was DSH Lumiere. My husband and I did the advent reading and candle lighting this morning, so it seemed appropriate. SOTE now is vintage Arpege extrait, from a bottle that belonged to my grandmother. We are going to watch White Christmas (one of the TCM Big Screen Classics) at the local theater. I couldn’t decide what would fit the tone or subject of the film, so I settled on something that could have been worn Vera Ellen or Rosemary Clooney back in the day.
Have fun! We watched that and Holiday Inn every Christmas. And a bottle of your grandmothers perfume is the cherry on top.
Vera Ellen had to have had the tiniest waist EVER.
I swear my calf is bigger than her waist….
Exactly! I could snap her like a twig.
And she was so young when she passed! Only 60…
Weekend got away from me completely. We finally got our tree this afternoon…I had to take charge because my husband was being grumpy. I know him well enough to know he needed the tree.
And I had to search around for those little cinnamon dot candies for decorating cookies and such. So hard to find! I make sugar cookies with white glaze and draw leaves with green food coloring and then add the dots as fake holly berries. Of course, they were in my local grocery…just in a different place than the sanding sugars. Why?
But all is well. I was smelling good this evening in Œillets Bengale as we attended a lovely Christmas concert in midtown. I literally teared up at times, the music was so beautiful.
Late to the party this weekend!
SOTD yesterday = Serge Lutens Bapteme du Feu – did not enjoy it and wanted to wear something else
SOTE yesterday = Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka (over-sprayed) and it was PERFECT for the dinner and holiday concert I attended on Saturday evening.
SOTA today = Aftelier Alchemy – animalic vintage vibe with very low projection – just right for an afternoon running errands!
I witnessed a poignant scene earlier today — I stopped by a Dunkin’ Donuts after church. At the entrance vestibule, I saw a mom helping a little girl put on a backpack. The little girl was looking into the glass and I waved at her and she waved back. I turned away and then all of a sudden, she was standing right next to a guy whom I saw was just sitting there and I thought what happened to the woman. It dawned on me that the girl was dropped off to be with her dad either for the day only or the parents are sharing custody and it’s the dad’s turn.
Project No Bake Dessert on a stick continues…
Wilton is my friend. Candy Dips™ is microwaveable chocolate coating. I bought pumpkin chocolate chip mini muffins and lady fingers. Both taste really good but they will not make it to the final because I couldn’t get the chocolate to go on smoothly (the muffin is too heavy and the lady finger is too soft). I have a few more candidates – mini croissants which I will cut in half so each will be in the shape of a Christmas tree and I will use Icing Writer® to outline the tree and stick on either a holiday shaped marshmallow (to be picked out from a limited edition Lucky Charms cereal) and/or mini popped rice snacks with Bischoff cookie butter sandwiched in between and/or Panettone.
