London-based niche line Timothy Han Edition Perfumes has introduced Against Nature, a new spicy aromatic fragrance inspired by the Joris-Karl Huysmans novel.
Inspired by Joris-Karl Huysmans’ 1971 novel of the same name, “Against Nature” takes TH/E in a completely new direction. The scent of a freshly broken sapling mixed against the notes of metal, lacquer and blood.
For this fragrance Timothy Han collaborated with New York artist Rafael Melendez who has created a series of illustrations which have been digitally manipulated to reflect the protagonist’s fascination with recreating the natural as artificial.
Launched Summer 2018, this fragrance is slated to eventually be the first to see an Eau De Parfum version as well as an Eau De Cologne version.
Additional notes include pink pepper, lemon, juniper, green, metal, jasmine, ylang ylang, lavender, lacquer, musk, vetiver, amber, sandalwood and patchouli.
Timothy Han Edition Perfumes Against Nature is available now at Twisted Lily, $160 for 60 ml Eau de Parfum.

I’m interested in this as I sampled a few of TH other scents and was impressed. I’m a little thrown by the description having a “blood” note like the Blood Concepts perfumes but still intrigued.
If they’re going to do it in 2 concentrations, I’m thinking they must think it has some commercial appeal, and therefore it won’t be too “out there”? But obviously I’m just guessing 🙂
Wasn’t Huysmans’s novel published in 1884…?
Yes. I don’t know where the error originally comes from (that is, Twisted Lily or Timothy Han), but 1971 is in fact the date of the book that inspired the last one (Decay of the Angel) and I’m thinking it comes from that somehow, via cut & paste, which is how many of my own best errors get started 🙂
