Tell us about the scented products in your bath or shower! How many scented shower gels and/or bar soaps are in your shower right now? And do tell us the names / products. If you have any great scented products in other categories (hair care?) tell us about those too.
Or, as always, just talk about something else.
I've got one bar soap at the moment, Nesti Dante Emozioni in Toscana Villages & Monasteries. That one is a repeat purchase.
I've got six (!) shower gels. Three of those are staples that I use and replace regularly: Lush Rose Jam, Lush Happy Hippy and Weleda Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash. The other three won't get replaced, and they're all getting old because I use them so slowly: Hermès Eau de Pamplemousse Rose Hair & Body Shower Gel (I have enjoyed it, but not so much that I use it quickly or that it was worth even the discounted price), Lush Santa's Christmas (I am determined to use this up by next Christmas but it's hard going) and Lush Bubbly (a big grape soda mistake, but it's almost gone).
For my hair, I use mostly unscented products, but at the moment I've also got tubes of Desert Essence Island Mango Shampoo and Conditioner, which I bought on a trip when I'd forgotten to bring shampoo. Turns out the cheerful mango scent is really appealing in the morning. I'll probably replace those when they're gone too.
Note: the Agape Vieques tub, designed by Patricia Urquiola, is marked down to €7,815.58 at Tanini Home in Italy.
Been on a hair kick suddenly. I just bought some Aveda Shampure shampoo and conditioner. Haven’t used it in years…was feeling nostalgic. Think the company is owned by Lauder now. Scent of the products is similar to what I remember but not as strong. Doubtlessly has been reformulated but I shall endure. Also just got a sample set of Moroccan Oil products which I’ve never tried.
I’d like to find some hair products that have scent that lasts through the day if anyone has recommendations. I know I could use hair mists etc. but I am nostalgic for old skool stinky shampoo please. ????
Wearing some old CSP Vanille Extreme today.
I was just going to write in my comment how much I enjoy the smell of the Moroccanoil Original Hair treatment oil. I was thinking of looking for perfume with similar scent.
I think they do have either a body spray or dry oil spray…!
I’ll check it out. Unfortunately, I didn’t see that in Sephora, and a blind buy is something I try to avoid. But I might make an exception for a body oil… Thanks for the suggestion.
Undina, I love the Moroccan Oil products, I think Kate Walsh’s Boyfriend smells very similar (to my nose).
I’ll try to get it for testing: I heard it has been relaunched recently. Thanks!
I use Aveda as well!
+1 for Aveda
Aveda fan here too!
I love Aveda products, have used them for over 25 years. I remember Aveda formerly had custom-scenting for lotion and massage oil – they even had a perfume oil that smelled like an amalgamation of their products. I wish they still had that available. 🙂
For long lasting scent in your hair, I can recommend Iles Formula Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s pricey and it reminds me of Santal 33, and it smelled so strong I was slightly self-conscious about going to my scent free workplace. I only used had samples, but the formula seemed good for my hair too. I think I saw an email from Luckyscent in the last couple weeks that they’re carrying the line now.
For something you can buy at the grocery/drugstore, I also like Garnier Honey Treasures. I’ve only used the shampoo because my always-conditioner is an unscented one in Whole Foods’ 365 line. But I bet if you use both the shampoo and conditioner, the scent will last. I really liked the shampoo and will repurchase it at some point.
Thanks…It is always easier to pull the trigger on luxurious hair products when they come highly recommended. ????
i had a sample of christophe robin shampoo and my hair smelled like roses all day long. i guess it depends on your tolerance for roses
Tresor, sample finished, Thunk!
What’s on my tub?
Kids toys
Live clean baby wash
For me
Aleppo Soap
Leonor Greyl
Rituals shower foam
LrP face wash
yay for thunk!!!!
Just wanted to commetn that Tresor is beautiful. I haven’t smelled or warm it in awhile and I really enjoyed it. I feel like Lancôme is overlooked for me anyways. Along with Estée Lauder
Tresor is indeed beautiful. I haven’t smelled it in years but remember it fondly. To this nose, it’s much more refined and interesting than the cotton candy sweetness of La Vie….
I shudder to hear its name. My mom wore it for years and always over-sprayed. It began to make me feel nauseous.
Sadly, now I’ve offered to get her perfume, but she says “Oh,I never have worn perfume.”
Before Tresor, she wore Youth Dew.
It’s really tough to see a parent change like that, Calypso. I’ve been there. At a certain point, my mom started to actively dislike things she previously enjoyed as well, like fragrance and music.
Big hugs to you, ladybug. I hope your recovery is going smoothly.
I would you describe your hair type? I’m looking for a new shampoo ????
“How”
I would check out the LG online https://www.leonorgreyl-usa.com/online-hair-analysis/
No affiliation.
My hair stylist used Leonor Greyl and I have been really happy. Its not cheap
thank you, I took the quiz. I’m keeping this line in mind, I don’t use a lot of product, and don’t wash my hair everyday, so it might be worth the extra $$ if it works.
I don’t have many in my shower: just OGX Lavender Luminescent Platinum shampoo (to brighten up blonde hair, but I use it for my gray), and Le Labo Labdanum 18 shower gel. I like the scent, and it’s nice and thick. I’ve got to use a sponge-stick to wash my legs and feet for awhile (post-hip-surgery you can’t bend over) and the labdanum gel makes it swirl around nicely. SOTD is Amouage Fate sprayed with abandon–I’m getting an early start on next week’s CP.
You are making me lemm the Bergamotte gel, if they even make one!
Your OGX shampoo is appealing, thank you for mentioning that one. 😀
Two bar soaps (Tom’s of Maine unscented body bar for hubs and Tom’s of Maine Lavender for me and who ever else chooses to use it)…the kids have Suave Coconut Body Wash but I think only the eldest is using it right now. Have really tried to cut down on purchasing and hoarding…it’s use it up all around….I have also resisted purchasing any of the Harry products in Target (even though I have been in the store several times)
Ha, I smelled those Harrys at Target last week too and couldn’t decide. I am determined not to buy until I’ve used up at least 2 bottles.
hee hee…every time I have been in Target I have given them a sniff but I have been strong and haven’t bought either the soap or the body wash (yet!!)
No shower gels, because I’m increasingly allergic to coconut, and pretty much every liquid soap product has some derivative in it. And I would rather live without fancy gels than be blistered, blotchy, and itchy. (Though I miss Rose Jam and some of the Molton Brown ones).
But I do have a bar of Tauer’s Solar Engineer soap which is just lush and bright smelling and a daily sudsy treat. I recommend this really highly. Plus an Oriza Legrand Relique D’Amour soap, which is nice and creamy but not nearly as rich in scent as the Tauer. Oh, and the remnants of a freebie bar of the Dior Rose Ispahan which is really creamy, but seriously: £35 quid for 100g? Thanks, loveliest of SAs, for the gift.
I don’t wash my hair in the shower–too, too long, and I wash it in cold water to keep the ludicrous colours longer. No scented products there, though every now and then I will give it a spritz or two of whatever perfume I am wearing, or add some if I oil it..
Oh, 28 La Pausa today… used up half a sample. That’s a whole milliliter and it was _still_ down to ghost-whispers in an hour. So, bumped up the iris goodness with some Aedes Iris Nazarene, and all is well.
But hey, my hair is now brighter than the disappointing last go-round. Added a whole melange of deep pinks and purples to the disappointingly bland lighter sections, and I’m feeling more like myself.
You smell great in the Aedes! I have a decant of that one and will be sad when it’s gone.
Shower staples:
Petit Marseillais Orange & Grapefruit shower gel
Le Labo’s Rose 31 shower gel
Annick Goutal’s Eau d’Hadrien shower gel
Eucerin oil shower gel (doesn’t foam much but is wonderful for dry skin)
Caldrea Honey & Ginger sugar body scrub (long discontinued but I stocked up before I left the US – I’m down to my last 3 tubes. Argh.)
On another note, I had the pleasure of visiting the Dusita Paris shop, after walking past it accidentally, on my way to an interview with another perfume brand (details if I get the gig!). As I stepped inside, I realized the brand’s owner, Pissara Umavijani was standing before me. Absolutely gracious, lovely, and welcoming, she generously offered samples, encouraging me to try scents on the skin, after spraying a few fragrances on a blotter. I enjoyed everything I sampled but Melodie de L’ Amour was the standout, personally. If you’re ever in Paris, and visit The Louvre, the Dusita shop is nearby, walking distance from the Tuileries metro station.
Enjoy your weekend! – Julien
I second the Eucerin, it lives in my shower all winter long.
I was typing so fast that I couldn’t correct “gel”, because it’s not really that. It’s truly an oil consistency that foams just a little bit. It’s sold under another name here in Europe but the formula is identical. My winter skin was happy I could find it. Off label use: It’s FANTASTIC at getting rid of perfumes you’d rather scrub off.
That is great information! Thanks!
I need to try that Petit Marseillais Orange & Grapefruit.
I hear it’s even carried at Walmart, albeit in a smaller size than what’s offered abroad. It’s good stuff.
Yes, Eucerin shower oil! It’s a staple for us in the winter months too.
+1 for anything Petit Marseillais – they had a shower oil that I love but can’t find it anymore so settling for the shower gel. Eucerin is great too.
Yippee, I love these polls!
Shower gels:
MFK a la rose, very lovely, but probably won’t replace this one.
Harry’s fig body wash, like this one a lot, but it will be down aways in the replacement queue as I have a ridiculous number of shower gels.
Philosophy Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere, this one is backup worthy. Creamy, sweet and spicy. Need to get to Ulta.
Lush Dirtyspring Wash, also backup worthy. This has been my favorite this summer, really cools the skin surface on hot days.
Shikai yuzu, I will repurchase this one as long as they continue to make it!
For face:
Kate Somerville Exfolikate, bought during the Sephora sale, enjoying this a lot, but not sure I’ll replace it. Actually, I feel guilty that I spent so much on a face scrub.
Laura Mercier flawless skin face polish, I guess I don’t feel that guilty….? I love the soft, powdery scent of this one.
Derma-E hydrating cleanser, this is a repeat purchase. Great mild cleanser, and has a pump dispenser.
Hair:
L’Oreal everstrong thickening shampoo, I go drugstore since I’m not coloring my hair anymore.
I’m going old school today in Youth Dew cologne, from a .5oz dabber bottle. Must have been a GWP, I’m guessing. It’s perfect. ????
I really like that ShiKai Yuzu and haven’t had any for a long while, maybe I’ll pick up a bottle.
L’Oréal’s entire Ever___ line is fantastic. They’re among the best shampoos and conditioners I’ve ever used, including the ones that cost 12 times as much. Thanks for reminding me to pick some up! 🙂
There are honestly too many to name. I’m working hard to use up my Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey bath oil so I can bring out another – either Wild Fig and Cassis or Nutmeg and Ginger. I snapped both up when I found out they were being discontinued. There’s also a lovely French soap I received as a gift that was wrapped in clear cellophane with no label. I guess I won’t be replacing it! 🙂
And of course, Peppa Pig and Trolls body/hair washes, a giant bottle of blueberry vanilla Palmolive for lots of cheap bubbles, and so many more bath toys than we need.
Happy weekend everyone!
I was saddened at the discontinuation of Nutmeg + Ginger, as it was my favorite Jo Malone. If you’re ever on the hunt for a dupe of it (and I mean a dead ringer), I stumbled across an outfit in Toronto, Canada (they ship internationally and I am in no way affiliated with the company), Google oilperfumery (all one word) and search for the scent under brands. I was skeptical but after trying it, they’ve nailed it. This was my only purchase from them, so although their scent catalog is deep, I’ve no idea how accurate their other dupes are. 🙂
Thanks for the tip, I’ll check them out! I just can’t understand how a brand can discontinue the product they were built on.
Here in CA I have an orange blossom soap I got at World Market…because I disliked the regular soaps my parents had. Had to stop myself from buying more soaps there.
At home, I still have a small amount left of Lush Wash Behind Your Ears. Hoping they bring that back. Bar soap is a raspberry scented thing I got at a stand last Christmas. We have a huge back up supply of soaps, including a set of Hermès ones I gave my husband as a gift. I also have Satsuma body gel….love the scent, but it’s drying. When I get home next week, I may pull out the fig scented bath gel.
I used to use Wen Tea Tree on my hair and loved it. But I got tired of it. I have been using HIF Volume Support and may buy more when I’m done with it.
I will definitely get more Lush Wash Behind Your Ears if they bring it back!
Very low on shower gels just now – I have a Lancome GWF gel that I’m using now that’s bright green, very herbal, and reminds me of something I used long ago but can’t quite bring to mind (maybe Herbal Essences shampoo?). I’m on the hunt for a new shower gel so will be reading everyone’s suggestions with great interest. For hair products these days I am loving Goldwell’s Just Smooth line – the shampoo is a little too fruity, but the conditioning mask smells heavenly, and both do a reasonably good job of smoothing out the frizzy greys hiding out in my otherwise-straight hair.
Wore SSS Pacific Forest to bed last night and respritzed this morning. So good. Wish I’d gone for a FB instead of the travel spray. Ah well.
I’ve been on an effort to reduce packaging/bottle use and overall quantity of shower stuff because I have so little storage space, so currently only have bar soap and bar shampoo.
Soap: Lush Sultana which is creamy, nutty smelling, and very moisturizing.
A green herbal smelling thing(basil and parsley)a friend gave me from her trip to India.
Hair: Lush Trichomania bar and the remnants of Godiva which I probably won’t replace. Conditioner is some bottled IGK product and kind of beachy smelling.
I still have half used bottles of scented body wash sitting in my cabinet but tend not to use them much since the scents really linger (L’Occitane Arlisienne and Amouage Honour Woman). I’m sure I’ll empty them eventually and have transferred some to travel bottles for trips.
SOTD is Aldehyde 44 from a sample for a day of cleaning. Nice but close to Chanel no 22 and 5 which I like a bit more.
You know, I was thinking the other day that I never loved No. 5 because the aldehydes I think. But given my recent love for No. 22, maybe I should revisit No. 5 since my tastes have evolved…
I didn’t like no 5 but did a total 180 on it! The EDT isn’t as aldehydic as the EDP but I like both.
Hello! Do they sell bar conditioner? And if so would you recommend one?
I don’t use many scented body products really. For my hair I usually use Aveda Shampure or Color Conserve. I do like the Aveda smell but am always on the lookout for other good stuff. I just usually grab the Aveda at the salon when I check out.
For body stuff I use Neutrogena Rain Bath or one of the bar soaps from Sprouts. Right now I am I using the orange blossom.
Lotion is a must in the desert I’ve found (copious amounts required for me lol) and I’m making my own mostly unscented these days- 2 parts unscented baby lotion whipped up with one part vitamin E cream and one part coconut oil. It’s so creamy but soaks in great and really lasts so I don’t have to constantly reapply.
So apparently there was a bear in our neighborhood last night about 5 houses down from us (we live at the base of the mountains). Interested in the neighbor’s fruit trees. We have a nectarine tree in our yard so I can’t decide if I’m scared it will come to our house or excited. ????
Haven’t decided on a scent today but it will probably be something Chanel. I’m on a Chanel kick lately for whatever reason. Maybe No. 19.
Oh, your body lotion sounds wonderful. If you don’t mind me asking…do you make it in a blender? Do you have to melt the coconut oil first?
I’m thinking you could make it in a bowl with a whisk if the oil was melted and cooled a bit.
It is so great! I am lazy, so I’ll admit I make it in my Kitchenaid stand mixer with the whisk attachment. I do melt the coconut oil first and let it cool a little. I’ve done it before without melting it and it turns out fine but there are little chunks of coconut oil in the finished product. When I’ve melted it, it whips up so nice and creamy. I usually mix the baby lotion and vitamin E cream, then slowly drizzle in the coconut oil while the mixer is going. It comes out such a nice texture! A lot of work for lotion I guess, but it’s been so perfect since I moved out west and I can’t find anything I like as well so I just keep making it lol.
KellyC, thanks so much for the details! This will save my hide this winter. ❄️
I was just watching a mountain bike video where they came across a freshly killed deer on the trail, and then saw the mountain lion that was responsible just a bit up the ridge, patiently waiting to continue his dinner. ????
You’ve seen my deer pics in my yard on Insta I think…my mom is always saying, “where there are deer there are mountain lions in the west!” I’m adding it to the list of things I’d like to see from my window sitting INSIDE the house lol.
My neighbor found a deer kill near our community center and put up her trail cam to watch it — she got some awesome photos of several mountain lions. They’re pretty wary critters though, we’ve lived in our rural area over 20 years and only seen one once.
Shower gels currently in the shower: Avon Haiku, Molton Brown Violet and Vanilla, Lush Santa’s Christmas (I hate the texture of this – thank goodness I got the smallest size!) and The Body Shop English Rose. I also have the body scrub to match the English Rose gel. Of these, Haiku is my favorite – it was cheap, it smells nice while I’m using it, and the scent doesn’t linger after the shower.
I’m currently in the process of bleaching my hair in stages to get to grey, so I’m using R & Co’s Sunset Boulevard shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair. I also use some of their styling products. Someone (maybe Ari?) once said that R & Co shares a perfumer with Byredo, and I believe it. The products smell amazing. I’ve also been using Ouai Hair Oil and Finishing Cream, and they have the most amazing jasmine scent. Love it!
Today’s SOTD is Munchen by Frau Tonis Perfume. Lemony rose sandalwood yum.
Off topic question: Does anyone have experience with Bikram yoga? I’m thinking of checking it out.
Oh, you can have my grey free of charge! ????
oh! I must check out the Haiku shower gel. 😉
Bikram yoga gets called Bikini Yoga in this neck of the woods. The hot room seems a bit gimmicky, but some people swear it’s good for extra-suppleness.
😉
I cannot do Bikram yoga, the heat makes me woozy and ill. Be sure to try a couple of classes before signing up for a membership to see if you can tolerate it.
I will second what cazaubon said. If you are not used to working out in extreme heat and literally having a puddle of sweat on your yoga mat then it might not be for you. But you can certainly try a class to see how you feel. One thing good about the heat is that it really loosens your body which allows for deepening in the asanas. But it’s not for everyone.
I have a whole rant about Bikram yoga, but briefly distilled, BEWARE! The heat makes you feel like you can stretch a lot more–the truth is that you can stretch a little more in the heat, but it is really easy to overstretch and hurt yourself.
I also have some qualms around the founder trying to patent the asanas–I think he was claiming that he put them together in some unique way. *rolling my eyes* Also, I believe that the same poses are done in the same sequence every time, and I think that will stretch your body well in some ways, but fail to work on other things.
+1 on the message about injuries. Be careful and do what you can without pushing yourself in the beginning. I used to work in a shared office space with a Bikram Yoga studio down the hall. At least once a week I’d run into a lady in the restroom who had overdone it…nausea, dizziness, strained muscles. I became an expert at making ice packs for strangers.
Shower gels:
Lots of Lush products: Rose Jam, Happy Hippy, and Flying Fox (which they need to start selling again!), BBW White Citrus, which is cheap and cheerful, and Pacifica Mediterranean Fig and Lotus Garden – both of which are discontinued. In fact, I don’t think Pacifica is making shower gels at all any more. Boo.
SOTD is Seville l’aube.
No Pacifica stopped making shower gels a while ago…boo hoo is right!!!
Pacifica has also discontinued several of my favorite perfume scents as well as all solid perfumes and candles.Seem to be going in a different direction.
yes they are heading in the direction of makeup and beauty products…guess that is what sells.
Reminds me I have some BBW White Citrus body spray. It smells so good!
Too much stuff in my shower, I really do need to use some stuff up and stick to what I like best.
Bobbi Brown Beach mini shower scrub. Hardly use it.
Softsoap Avocado Oil & Iris shower gel. Not exiting. Rarely use it, don’t know why I imagined I’d get a nice iris for $3.99.
Lemon basil bar soap. A gift and don”t know the brand but I like it and use it 90% of the time.
Hermes Eau des Merveilles shower gel. Just a squidge left. Didn’t love it but still hoarding my last use. Silly.
Hermes Eau d’orange verte. This one I love. Refreshing, smells great, feels great.
Rose Jam is waiting in the cupboard.
Also have a variety of conditioners and co-washes but nothing exciting in terms of smell.
uh-oh, how did I not know there is such a thing as Eau des Merveilles shower gel? 🙂
I bet it’s one of those gift-set specials.
I love Eau des Merveilles a lot so have splurged both on the bar soap and the shower gel. Sadly, neither one really captured the magic of the perfume, for me at least. The lotion, on the other hand, is terrific!
Good to know that about the soap and shower gel. I have a bottle of the EdM body lotion and agree that it smells very very close to the perfume. So nice. 😀
Can’t really participate in the poll because I use pretty much one product for washing myself, my hair, and my dishes- either Dr Bronners or Myers.????
In a single spritz of Tabac Taboo because it’s all I can take. Super smokey again, feel like I need a firefighters respirator set-up. Headache, sinus shut-down, watering eyes, and cough are free with purchase! Ugh! Feel so bad for all these people and animals that have lost homes. Remembering my time at Whiskeytown Lake is a bit heartbreaking. Such a beautiful area!
Next year I have decided to skip summer altogether by taking a long road trip up to Alaska. Pretty sure I can swing June, July, and August. That’s the plan and I’m sticking to it! Just not quite sure what I can do for medical insurance for those 3 months…
+1 for Dr. Bronners!
✌????
I used to be a Dr Bronner’s only gal (peppermint!). Maybe I’ll return one day.
3 months in Alaska sounds amazing! Would you work? I’m fondly remembering Northern Exposure and always wanted to have that kind of experience. I know it’s TV…
The ultimate goal for next summer is no work, all play! ✌????
Pssst, Elisa: The exteriors for Northern Exposure were filmed in Roslyn, Washington. Any number of my friends were extras. It’s still pretty much the same – the real Cicely, Alaska. 😉
I was nearby for work and had the biggest nerdout when I found out where we were! Ate and drank at the Brick, took my pic in front of the mural, and saw the radio storefront. It was amazing!
I love Dr. Bronner’s peppermint for cold-water showers. It evokes a life-altering trip made some years ago, and I find it (now as then) invigorating and refreshing.
Deva you are my kinda gal!!! One product for many uses!
Ha! And I forgot to mention is washes T-Rex, too! ????
Even bettter!!!!
Dr. Bronner’s brings back memories of a Colorado River rafting trip. I had the lavender. If I’d thought about how hot and grimy I would be, I would have used peppermint. Bigelow’s mint soap is fabulous in summer.
Sorry about the air. Not good.
Hang in there, that smoke situation is tough. The Alaska trip sounds fab!
Alaska next summer sounds like a wonderful adventure!
We use Dr. Bronner’s also. We use it for various cleaning and my fiancé uses it as a body wash also, but for whatever reason it really irritates my skin so I stick to cleaning with it.
Let’s see, I’ve got a deliciously creamy supermarket bar of jasmine soap, then some Lush Rose Jam, l’Occitane Huile d’Amande shower oil, super yummy Bedhead orange shampoo, argan oil conditioner, and orange honey Burt’s Bees face wash that is the most wonderful thing you’ve ever smelled 🙂
Question: I’ve been given a 25% off coupon for Jo Malone (unlimited, I think). What should I buy? I thought I’d try to get some of the English Fields limited edition scents, but the only one I’ve smelled is the one I already have—Honey & Crocus. Are there any others that stand out? Would they be safe blind buys? What about non-perfume products? I’m not a candle person, but are you enthusiastic about their other products? Thanks, perfumista hive mind 🙂
I did like the Oat and Cornflower. It’s probably not necessary to mention how fleeting it is, because only a couple of their dark’n’edgy line even have a prayer of lasting more than ca. an hour. Maybe one of their bath oils?
I’ve decided to forego the blind perfume buy and instead go with your bath oil idea 🙂 thanks for the suggestion!
I’d suggest the Velvet Rose & Oud dry body oil. It’s quite the luxurious treat.
That’s a great idea! It sounds wonderful. I spent a while reading reviews of all the JM oils and they sound great.
Oh oh! I’ve been lemming the Jo Malone Basil & Neroli body cream (or whatever they call it) since I sampled it at a duty free shop last year. Pricey for a lotion, but the scent is beautiful and strong enough to be your SOTD, and it feels wonderful on the skin.
I bet it’s lovely! I don’t do well with strongly scented lotions, though 🙁 I don’t know what it is; I keep trying to get them off me. Somehow, the only company that makes scented creams I don’t hate is l’Occitane, but even those I don’t want to use at bedtime :-/
Thanks for the recs! I think I will seriously indulge, with Myrrh & Tonka shower oil, Red Roses bath oil, and Velvet Rose & Oud dry body oil. After the discount, this will still be a bit over $150, which is HORRIFIC…but when else am I going to try these stupidly luxurious products?
Can’t you try them first at Nordstrom? I didn’t like the Velvet Rose Oud body products, didn’t smell true to the perfume imho.
Unfortunately, I need to make a decision by Tuesday in order to take advantage of the discount, and I can’t get to a shop before then 🙁 What did you think was odd about the VRO body products?
They just didn’t smell like the perfume, you may like them, they are not bad, but not a perfect match for the edp.
I love their Grapefruit body wash. Their soaps are also nice and last forever.
Most definitely YES to the soaps! I would always buy one when there was a gift with purchase (as in buy a soap and get a travel spray for free!). Even if you decide not to use them for yourself they make wonderful gifts! (the youngest Marzipan is getting one for his birthday this year- Lime, Basil & Mandarin along with the travel spray of Myrrh and Tonka that came with it). Even one soap gets wrapped in that beautiful box with a black ribbon.
In the shower: Just used the last of my Caswell-Massey Sandalwood gel. Amazon is OOS, which is just as well as I have soooo much shower stuff in the cabinet. Next up is Bliss Super Minty Soap n’ Scrub, which foams nicely and exfoliates. The minty smell wakes me up, too. Then I bought Le Labo Hinoki Sesame shower gel a while ago but haven’t tried it. In the cabinet is Rose Jam, Pehnaligon’s Opus 1870 (GWP), BBW Oahu, Neutrogena Rainbath, Flying Fox, Hot Toddy, Smoky Poppy, Orange Sanguine, 3 bars of sandalwood soap from India, and a couple of Tauer soaps. I am set for a while. Might give up some in the Swapmeet. I have wash and wear hair so shampoo is something moisturizing from Tresemme.
Today I’m wearing Mandarine Basilic and thinking of either experimenting with a date/oatmeal/pecan cookie recipe, cleaning out the gutters, or prepping to install the shutters I bought last year. I think I’ll sit here in the comfy chair and think some more 🙂
If you’re taking votes, you know I’ll vote cookies.
Le Labo Hinoki is a-ma-zing. Try it 🙂
Gosh, I hope you bake the cookies. Ten minutes out of the oven, and it’s paradise.
I vote for a cool glass of iced tea and some more time in the chair thinking. 🙂
I have Caswell-Massey Sandalwood soap-on-a-rope now in my shower (and enjoy it very much). I should take a look on their shower gels.
Back from my cousin’s birthday celebration. It was a great family party, we laughed, talked, ate, drank and dance until 2 am.
I wore Prada Infusion de Mandarine in the end and I wear it today as well.
In my shower I currently have Yves Rocher Orange Flower & Almond shower gel and Mimosa & Cotton Flower Shower Balm. Plus a liquid hand soap that I made at work and scented it as Eau Sauvage.
Hope everyone is having nice and not too hot weekend.
I will be thinking of your cousin’s party at my next family gathering… lots of one upsmanship about travel and food, tight smiles and nods. . . . and now because my boys are coming to the end of their high school years–many vaguely voyeuristic inquiries about applying to college–in my head I will be dancing!
I like your party and wish we had more of that kind.
The mimosa balm is great, and I enjoy it a lot.
Hi, everyone! Dr. Bronner lavender and almond soaps always in the shower!
yay for Dr. Bronner!
I’ve been buying the 1/2 gallon refill of the Lemongrass, that’s now our household hand soap 🙂
oooh, I bet that smells yummy, especially in the kitchen. I adore lemongrass though it makes me crave Thai food.
It’s not as strongly scented as I’d like, but it’s not bad and it’s cheap 🙂
Let’s see: rosy Nivea thingie; Bulgari black tea, which I feel I should use when I am going to wear the perfume, but I never know which perfume I’ll wear until after breakfast; Pacifica sandalwood thingie. WHY is Pacifica getting rid of their shower gel? Sniff
I join you in lamenting the Pacifica shower gel demise. 🙁
I tend to use soaps more than I do shower gels and I´ve usually got a number of diffent soaps going, lavender, alep, rose, citrus, jasmin, sandalwood…
I love the smell of Lush Rose Jam but I find Lush shower gels incredibly drying so I only tend to use them once in a while.
My latest discovery shampoo wise is the alas discontinued Stemm Amino shampoo and Gold Fulvic conditioner. Very gentle on my ever itchy scalp and keeps my hair nice and soft. I also love the smell, something vaguely fruity.
We don’t use bar soaps in the shower anymore – was causing a lot of soap scum in the tub in our previous home so everyone switched to body wash. I have a selection of Yves Rocher gels – Lagoon, lotus flower sage, Almond Orange blossom. In my stash, which should last the rest of the year, more varieties of Yves Rocher and Pacifica fig,
Today is my 50th birthday – going to dinner with a group of friends (14 of us) to an Argentinian grill. Leaving 7 14 year old boys at our house with pizza and hoping they don’t burn it down while we are gone. Not sure what the SOTE will be – any suggestions??
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!!!! Hope you have a wonderful time tonight.
HAPPYBIRTHDAY TO YOU!
Many happy returns of the day!
Very happy 50th!! Hope it is a great evening.

Happy Birthday!
Happy 50th! Mine was six weeks ago. Welcome to the club, and may you have many happy, and fragrant, returns of the day.
Happy birthday! Hope your house survives intact.
I don’t like bar soap or liquid soap formulations for the same reason, hate soap scum. Unfortunately DH loves bar soap.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday and have fun at dinner!
Happy birthday! Hope you had fun and heard no sirens on the way home! ????????
Happy Birthday!
But now you just have to come back and let us know that it didn’t end in celebratory bonfire at your place 😉
What did you choose to wear?
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday!
SotD = Infusion d’Amande
Id’A always makes me happy, should wear it more often.
I am a solid soap fan. I keep the bar out of the shower between uses so it can dry and last longer. Currently using a bar of Dr. Bronner’s peppermint, it feels cooling at the end of a warm day. I use Organic Doctor Vitamin E shampoo when I remember to buy a bottle. The smell is almost neutral, a bit botanical, it vaguely reminds me of chrysanthemums.
I keep Trader Joe’s tea tree body wash and shampoo stocked for my teens. We all enjoy it.
I just acquired a bottle of Infusion d’Amande in a swap, it’s so nice. You smell great.
thanks, cazaubon!
lucky you, that was a good swap. Infusion d’Amande is on my FB short list.
Infusion d’Amande is my favorite office scent right now and I just finished my decant : (
Smart move, keeping the soap out of the shower.
Infusion d’Amande is definitely a great scent for the office. When my mini bottle is empty I’ll be : ( too.
I love a good bar soap too!
Ahh I love these polls. I always find new products to add to my wish list.
I keep to just two shower gels and one bar soap in my shower now. Bar soap is Shugar Soapworks Oatmeal & Coconut Soap, which I got from my mom in a birthday gift bundle a couple years back (sometimes that’s how long it takes to get to back-up stash soap) and am really enjoying for summer, and shower gels are Kneipp Almomd Blossom and LAFCO Bergamot & Honeysuckle. The LAFCO is almost gone finally, and I think I’ll use Nuxe Melting Shower Gel next. I think my next bar soap will be Formulary 55 Narcissus, sadly discontinued, and next shower gel after Kneipp will be Rose Jam. I have a huge backlog of soaps and shower gels pretty much always with my most recent purchases being Flying Fox on eBay and Weleda Sea Buckthorn as an add on to an Amazon purchase.
A new favorite conditioner is Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Conditioner. I just finished a deluxe sample and may buy a travel size soon. It has a wonderful honeyed, perfumey aroma too.
SOTD is PG Cuir d’Iris to celebrate the arrival of the partial bottle I bought from someone on Basenotes! Thanks to SheriG for encouraging me to not give up on searching for it.
So happy to hear you were successful!
Most soap bars and shower gels I receive as birthday and holidays presents, since people known my weakness for perfumes and scented products. I do not buy anymore since I have so many.
This is what I have in my shower right now:
From generous NSTers:
Tauer Data Miner bar soap
Tauer Solar Engineer bar soap
One with Nature Dead Sea Mud bar soap
Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot shower gel
Bvlgari Au the Bleu shower gel and shampoo.
From family, friends, co-workers:
Florida Water bar soap
A la Maison de Provence Fresh Sea Salt bar soap
Pre de Provence Sandalwood bar soap
Pre de Provence Rose Petal bar soap
Pre de Provence Fressia bar soap
Pre de Provence White Gardenia bar soap
Gori 1919 Noel Collection Lavander bar soap
Castelbel Winter Pine bar soap
Orange&Clove bar soap in a beautiful music box. I do not see the brand
Goatboy Red Clover Tea soap bar
Goatboy Serious Citrus soap bar
I usually purchase several from Goatboy at the farms when apple picking.
Zum soap bar and shower gel of Myrrh and Frankincense
Zum bar bundle with many of their bar samples
B&BW Aromatherapy Sleep
B&BW Amber & Argan
B&BW Birch & Argan
B&B Chestnut & Argan
I usually do not use more than one gel or soap bar at the same time. I finish one and go to the next. Righ now I am using Fath de Fath shower gel from a generous NSTer.
I am not a big fan of scented body lotions and the few I have I use for my hands adding some drops of agar oil.
I am speechless…..(and I feel like a failure because my supply is nothing like everyone else’s..LOL!) Now face products on the other hand practically cover the bathroom sink and NONE of them are mine!!! All three Marzipans have their arsenal of face products and they share one bathroom which also has the shower that everyone uses.
Ha, and I have ONE face product! Ok, two I guess if you count the face wash.
I am with you…I don’t even have a face wash! I splash water on my face in the shower and if I wear mascara I remove it with olive oil. Face product is whatever oil is around to put on for moisture (right now it is homemade rosehip seed/jojoba blend)….each mini Marzipan has 6-10 products each for the face. I guess at my age you just give up-LOL!
I only have jojoba oil and a bottle of La Roche-Posay sunscreen for my face, I have given up on face products and their miraculous claims. At 52 I no longer expect anything to change. I just use water and jojoba oil on a pad for makeup removal.
I steal the sunscreen from my kids (cause they each have their own specific one for their faces)….it works out because they are always stealing my perfumes 😉
The good thing about it is that 99% of those soaps bars and gels have been gifted, so no really money spent on them. They are not fancy or luxurious, except for the Tauers and Molton Brown, but they are all of very good quality, I enjoy them greatly and they put a smile on my face.
I do not have any special face products. I just wash my face with Yardley Oatmeal and Almond bar soap and then apply Nutragena skin combination face lotion. Very rarely I use a face scrubber since my skin is very sensitive to scrubbers.
As a body lotion I always wear unscented Nivea Skin Firming with some drops of argan oil.
As I said before scented body lotions I wear as hand creams and I use them a lot.
Not crazy about hair products. I use Redken shampoo and conditioner and after I apply a few drops of argan oil to my hair.
To be honest I am not so crazy about body or beauty products.
“Scrubs”, not scrubbers”.
Sounds like you have the perfect collection then! It’s funny to see how everyone is different with regard to what they enjoy and how they enjoy scenting themselves. And yes, free is always better 😉 Nice that your friends and family always know what to get you!!!
What do you think of the molten brown? I’m always curious about this brand.
The Orange and Bergamot is the first one that I have tried from this brand and it is really good. It smells refreshing and soft and the scents stays on skin for several hours. It is good for layering with a citrus perfume. I have used it twice and I enjoy by itself. I really love it!
Wow! Great list!
Thank you! ????
I ran out of Dr. Bronner’s rose soap, I had a micro bottle of it with me for the trip. This town in Colorado seems to be nice bar soap averse, all I could find at the supermarket was Dial, Dove, Ivory etc. So I went on Amazon and got me a bar of Lafco Rose and Elemi soap. I love the shape of it, kind of wide and on the flat rectangular side with rounded corners. It smells really beautiful like a high end rose wood perfume and the lather is super creamy. A winner.
SO..ladies and gents, I got the Perfumes the Guide 2018 and have been binge reading it. The introductory essays in the beginning of it had me in stitches. Very well written and funny. And some real surprises on what they deemed to be four and five star perfumes. There are some mainstreams in there that I would not have guessed. And some really exclusive pricey perfumes got really low ratings. Very interesting arguments for the thumbs up and thumbs down I might add.
Speaking of thumbs up, I’m still testing “The Musc” from Essential parfums and I’m really starting to love it. I walked into the bedroom today and was like “what’s that beautiful smell?” and then remembered that in a fit of uncoordination I missed my arm and sprayed some of it into the air this morning. I think my problem is that I’m a little bit anosmic to musk but if it’s sprayed on an object away from me I can smell it better. It really is kind of lovely but it took a little while to get used to it.
Anyone (I’m sure everyone has) had the experience of being deeply disappointed by a perfume the first few tries and then over time starting to love it more and more?
See? I KNEW that would happen! I usually don’t dislike fragrances (I have very very simple tastes and like just about anything)…so I end up with a like to love when I wear something over and over again. This happens a lot. I am glad that you have fallen in love with The Musc because it is really affordable on any budget!
You are very blessed to have simple tastes! I probably do too when it gets right down to it. It’s nice to just relax and enjoy rather than always looking for the perfume version of Mr or Ms Right, no?
Yes you are so right!
I have a few scented soaps. My current favorite is ZOMG Smells the Nuremberg pudding incident. It is quite lovely, I may have to order more. I have been eyeing the Hermes Eau de merveill products as I love the scent, as well as there orange one. ☺️Yesterday I purchased the St Ives acne control apricot scrub at Walmart yesterday, as it’s tax exempt weekend here. I haven’t used it in years, but I found it quite pleasant. ????I believe I heard they are making a spray of there apricot scent. I also grabbed some of the Jucy mango and strawberry face masks @2 for $5 I like to keep some on hand for weekend soaks in the tub. They are fantastic smelling! ???? a happy, calm, and fragrant weekend to all!
Everyone Soap shower gel in Tropical Twist (coconut, orange, pineapple): we use it for shampoo and shower gel because we are men and that’s a thing that (some) men do.
A tub of Taylor of Old Bond Street shave cream in Sandalwood.
A bar of Le Labo soap in Rose 31, a gift from an NSTer.
That is all.
My son has adopted that … one product, does everything.
Lidl shampoo & conditioner and Tesco’s home brand lemon-scented soap. Muchly dislike anything unnecessarily scented or perfumed in the shower but I won’t go out of my way to specifically avoid perfume or purchase non-scented alternatives. The smell of generic shampoo especially has ruined modern wee girly floral perfumery forever (as if it were a bad thing :D).
Never understood shower gel as a separate product anyhow. AFAIC skin itself does not behoove ‘washing’ unless one is a professional mud wrestler or spends their days rolling in muck. Running clear water across the body to remove residual sweat + soap for the pits & undercarriage pretty much does it.
I only use shower gel to clean my pits and undercarriage because I hate the residue bar soap leaves in the shower. I agree the rest of my skin is fine with just a water rinse, since I do not roll around in the mud.
I like Nesti Dante soaps, as mentioned by Robin and also Claus Porto (especially the Favorito Red Poppy). I also have a Fragonard pink heart shaped soap that will be used soon. I’ve had it before and really like that one. I haven’t been using shower gels for a while, but for no particular reason.
I’m in YSL Baby Doll today. as I haven’t worn it in a while and it’s nice in warm weather.
I luurrrve Favorito red poppy soap. Porto also makes an Iris soap that smells beautiful.
We have a great little homemade soap shop in my town called the Soapy Gnome, they have a web store too. I always have a bar of their soap in the shower, right now it’s lavender spearmint. Since it’s summer, there’s also a bottle of Dr Bronners peppermint liquid soap, diluted by half even though the label no longer says “dilute dilute dilute!” Shower gel is original Neutrogena Rainbath and my year round staple is Olay in shower lotion. Oh there’s a jar of Tree Hut Rose body scrub too, my husband likes it on his “bumpy” legs. Maybe TMI? We’re not fancy shower product people but I’m saving my Ulta points rewards for Philosophy Ballet Rose shower gel during the holidays, it smells wonderful.
Your husband’s bumpy legs comment really made me laugh 🙂
Last black friday ULTA had 50 percent off philosophy shower gels, so keep an eye out this year.
Yes, I remember! I took a bottle of their combo shampoo/shower gel on a long vacation last winter and we loved it for both uses, so I really want to pick up a few scents.
Not as good as 50% but here is something: https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-cm-philosophy-amazing-grace-ballet-rose-shampoo-bath-shower-gel
YIKES! Long link. Goodness!!!!
So long I could not stand it so shortened it…still works without all the extra!
Oooh, good to know!
My shower is boring right now. My daughter sees a shower gel or shampoo and just squeezes with abandon. We are now using bar soap. One bar of Oil of Olay unscented. About 2 years ago, my friend gifted me a bar of Fragonard Soliel soap, so in the spirit of Using it up, and enjoying what I have, I recently put it in my shower. It’s a nice soap, but doesn’t really have a smell. Thank you to everyone’s well wishes yesterday, I am feeling better today. Sotd is Cristalle.
I am not sure I saw your original comment but I am happy you are feeling better. 🙂
My three year old washed his hands all by himself Friday. I was so proud until I saw that he’d used half a bottle of Softsoap. The drain still smells like watermelon and cucumber. I think we’re moving on to bar soap only too.
Glad you are feeling better.
I love a luxurious soap or shower gel, but I’m too mean to spend a lot of money on bath products, I save my extravagance for cosmetics and perfume. My most recent soaps were lovely bars I bought at a school fund-raising fair last year. I have no idea who made them, but I’m hoping I’ll recognise the stall again this year.
Perfume free as yet, but I’m thinking about my latest purchase, Map of the Heart No 4, the gold heart. Quite a nice creamy scent.
And I have switched…hard to get me to buy perfume, but I am willing to splurge on bath products!
I have an absurd amount of shower gels (which I use as bubble bath). At the moment though, I am ignoring them all in an attempt to Use Up a bottle of Philosophy Senorita Margarita. Maybe I’ll finish it next week. Good thing I like it, but I won’t replace it as there are so many other bottles patiently waiting their turns. Just discovered I have 3 bottles of Body Shop Fuji Green Tea. Why 3?? Arg.
Robin, LOL on Lush Santa’s Christmas. I have a wee 3 oz bottle of Lush Lord of Misrule which I attempted to get thru last winter, and failed. Maybe next winter. (Or maybe I’ll just pour it down the drain, that’s where it ends up anyway, right?)
My bottle of SSS Incense Pure arrived today! I was hovering over my computer all day checking for when it would be shown as delivered, and rushed up to the mailboxes (1.5 miles away) to get it as soon as it was there.
And my husband is coming home tonight from a week of fighting the Ranch fire in Mendocino/Lake counties. Yay! The cats and I will be glad to see him. Sounds like he’ll be glad to be home too. He’ll probably sleep all day Sunday, he’s been doing 24-hr on followed by 24-hr off shifts all week. Yikes.
I’m also working through a bottle of Senorita Margarita shower gel! It was a gift, and probably not one I would’ve purchased, but it’s a fun scent for summer. The first time I tried it, I developed an immediate and urgent margarita craving 😀
I know what you mean! They really did nail the scent of a frozen margarita.
Will be curious to hear your thoughts on Incense Pure
Oh I already had a small bottle. Now I have a larger one too 🙂 I love it.
ha!!! good for you! especially if you scored one of her last ones 😉
So glad your husband is coming home safe! I love Incense Pure.
We’re all happy he’s home 🙂
Yay! Glad he’s back, safe and sound though tired 🙂
Wow, your husband had a brutal schedule. I’m glad he’s back home, safe and sound!
Glad your husband is home. He deserves a long snooze and all of CA’s thanks…
Seriously, it is rare that I get through an entire shower without getting mad about that Santa’s Christmas. I would be doing my brain a favor by pouring it down the drain.
Hope your husband is home, rested and well.
Glad your husband is home safe and sound.
Oooh. Cool tub. I love Italian fixtures…
Let’s see, my most frequent shower gel repurchase is the cheap as chips Alba Botanica Midnight Tuberose… I may at last be tiring of it, so my current bottle may be my final one for a while. In waiting are bottles of Lush Plum Rain, and (possibly an NST daily lemming or a recommendation from an NSTer?) MAC Turquatic. Almost done with a bottle of Olivia Baker Black Tea and Plum liquid hand soap, which was totally unremarkable. Next in line is Maja liquid hand soap.
I’ve been crazy busy with work and miss you all!!! I am so tired. But every time I apply perfume I try to log onto NST to tell you about it… This morning I was in Someone Like You, but it is faded now. I’m craving Lyric for some reason, so that may be my choice for dinner.
Slept terribly last night again. Smart, old, insouciant cat was out when I heard a HORRIBLE cat scream–well screaming really, and then nothing. Then our big, dumb, sweet gorgeous tabby somehow sneaked out and I found him limping and bloody on our deck about an hour later. Took him to the animal hospital to get patched up (shaved, shot through with antibiotics, and the cone of shame to boot) and still no sign of our old cat. I got home at about 11:30 PM, old cat finally trundles in at 1:30 AM–totally fine. All this after I learned yesterday that the conditions in the Sierras are now too dangerous for my son to continue his 26-day hike. He’s been gone about two weeks. His school is sending up a team to get all the kids home by Wed. He’ll spend the last two nights alone (a wilderness guide is supposed to be in emergency whistling distance) somewhere near Tuolumne Meadows… Gah! I want all my chickens home in one piece NOW.
Poor sweet-dumb-tabster moggy. It’s awful when a cat gets bashed up like that. Hope he recovers quickly. And that your boy has a safe end to his journey. How amazing to have an almost month-long hike–what an adventure! (Though sorry it’s turned dangerous.)
Worrying about your loved ones, both furred and sans-fur, must be contributing to your exhaustion, as well. Glad both your cats made it home, albeit one a little worse for wear. :-/
Lots of big worries, glad to hear the cats are home and your son will be soon too! Have a glass of whatever calms you and a nap.
Wishing your son a very safe return home and that your cat recovers fast. Take very good care of yourself!
Poor kitty! Hope your son is home soon.
Glad the cats are safely home! Hope your son gets home soon too 🙂
That sounds very stressful about your son! Please update and let us all know that he got back OK!
I’d like to tell you not to worry, but we all know that’s not possible. So I wish you the best in keeping your stress manageable. 🙂
I had that Alba Tuberose gel years ago. It was one of the best I’ve ever tried in terms of scent and feeling clean. No idea why I never repurchased…adding it to the list.
Oh cool poll!
Let me see….
Lush Daddy-O shampoo to keep my blonde hair looking shiny and smelling fabulous!
Nature Republic Aloe Vera Fash wash.Creamy texture that turns wonderfully frothy and foamy on my face.
Skoon White clay minipot for a second facial cleanse
Titanium Men showergel. It’s an all-over showergel, and I love the scent.I use the body lotion as well.
Eucerin Dermocleanse on facescrub days
Clarins body exfoliator. This one smells like rice pudding, wonderful texture and leaves my skin feeling soft.
Susan Kaufmann Hair mask
I only shower with bodygloves so there are a couple in rotation.
SOTD was Parfums de Rosine Diabolo Rose.
Happy Weekend!
I’m doing a dangerous thing…reading comments with my Amazon cart in the next tab. Into the cart goes the Clarins scrub!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!
It does sound really nice. If I didn’t have so many scrubs in the shower already I’d be buying it too.
My shower is fairly Lush-centric: tail end of a 32-oz. Rose Jam (the SA at Lush on Newbury in Boston told me that RJ should start appearing as part of the permanent line I US stores in the next couple of weeks); Plum Rain, which I like but don’t adore; and Olive Branch, which I think makes my skin softer than anything I’ve used, but which I will not repurchase because I don’t really care for the scent on myself. I also have the very end — perhaps two showers’ worth — of a Narciso for Her shower gel that was part of a holiday gift set. It’s a bit too aggressively musky for hot weather for my taste, but I am sure I’ll is it up quickly when the cool weather returns.
I was pleasantly surprised by a Jergens coconut-based lotion (in the regular-style Jergens pump bottle) that I purchased on the fly at the beach earlier this summer. The fragrance is pleasant but not overpowering or annoyingly long-lasting, and it really seems to moisturize well. Cheap thrills!
And: I miss Don’t Rain on My Parade. My favorite Lush of all time. 🙁
Not too much, right now!
Shower gels/body washes: LUSH Dirty, LUSH Rose Jam, and Avalon Rosemary.
Soap: two half-used bars from The Lucky Honeybee, a small local company (Charcoal, Rose-Sandalwood)
Hair: EO Rose & Chamomile shampoo & conditioner
I was just thinking about buying some more of that EO conditioner — I use it mostly as a shave cream. When I finish my current (Acure lemongrass) that’s next on the list.
I have way too many bath products but I do have a bathroom to myself as my husband prefers to use our second bathroom.
At the moment, I am using two soaps, Cast Away by Shore Soap Company and Chanel No 19 which is a much loved and enjoyed gift from a friend.
For shower gels, I am currently using C. Booth their original scent and their Mimosa & Honeysuckle, Amouage Lyric, SHE Honey & Peach, C&E Wisteria, which I am just trying to use up, also Lavender and Iris, Pecksniff’s Ginger Flowers & Patchouili, Pacifica French Lilac, Yves Rocher Monoi de Tahiti and B& BW Almond & Vanilla. Several of these are almost used up.
For hair, my favorite is 100% Pure Kelp & Mint shampoo and conditionet but I have others. ????
Last night, I used my antique shop find of Emeraude Dusting Powder. The scent doesn’t last long but it is gorgeous when I take the lid off off the container. I wish it were still available in perfume form.
But I thought Emeraude was still around?
It is but not the same scent as vintage. I wasn’t able to date my product but it is at least 20 years old, if not older. I should have worded my post differently.
Right, I’m sure that’s true.
Fun poll!
I’m trying to streamline and not hoard too much stuff. I’m also too cheap to spend $$ on stuff that gets rinsed down the drain!
Dr. Bronner’s Citrus
Redpure biotin shampoo
Biolage gel conditioner
some lemon-scented soap from TJ Maxx
Kiehl’s microderm scrub
Dove Green Tea and Cucumber: shampoo, conditioner, soap and deodorant. Fell in love with this when I was in Europe years ago, made me think of my travels whenever I smelled it. Now I use it more so because I get complimented on it, which makes me giggle. Everyone knows I love fragrances, so when I’m not using fragrance and someone asks me what I’m wearing, I say “deodorant”. It’s a cute little funny and awkward moment.
I discovered that deodorant recently myself. It really does have a very nice delicate scent. Will have to try the other products…
It’s the only one I trust. The euro deodorants are stronger than the North American ones, so I stockpile when I come back. Was stopped at the airport once, they thought I was going to resell them hahaha
I have way too many shower gels, just like perfumes. Mostly Lush, with an YR Monoi de Tahiti and Mugler Aura thrown in for good measure. Lush Daddy-O shampoo.
Wearing BV Eau de Velours today, it’s been a rosy week. Very hot still, holed up under the AC doing a massive photo file organization on the computer. Too many photos!!
Good luck with your project today!
When it rains, it pours. My dad is still in the hospital and we don’t know exactly when he is getting out right now. I should find out later today. Yesterday, my mom ended up being admitted as well because the pneumonia meds were not working and it looks like she will be out Wednesday. So I am making arrangements for getting to and from work since I don’t have a car until then. I am in Shalimar taking care of the dogs. Post shower I think I might go with Kyoto since it’s hot out or Incense Flash.
Best of health and good recovery to your parents!
I really wish that your parents’ health start getting better soon and that you can finally get the rest that you need and deserve. Kyoto and Incense Flash are very relaxing scents. Sending hugs!
I hope both of your parents feel better soon and you have some much needed rest.
Argh. That is a lot of stress and juggling. Hope the tide turns soon.
Here’s hoping everyone has strength and then is able to sigh with relief later this week.
I hope they are released soon.
So sorry. I hope they both get better soon.
Great topic! Something I spend too much time dwelling on probably.
Bath products.
Bath gel grocery store life simplification project in progress here. -1. a la Maison Rosemary and Mint bath gel – this smells great, perks me up in the mornings, and keeps me pretty squeaky clean without being too drying, but I always add lotion of some sort as well. 2. Dr. Bronner’s Baby formulation with some added ylang ylang and sandalwood oils for when I want soothing. 3. Also Old Spice …adorable hubby likes whatever is on sale at the time, but this brand’s formulation doesn’t irritate his skin so he has just started grabbing something from this line as the default choice. 🙂 Right now Pure Sport, which is, you know, sporty, but not extreme, so it doesn’t totally fresh out one’s nose.
Bar soap-1. Goats Milk Stuff Rosemary and Calendula Bar with Shea butter. Best stuff ever for my skin, but it does scum up the shower curtain a bit. 2. The AD likes Lightfoot’s Pure Pine Athletic bar, which smells like a pine forest, and does a good job of minimizing the manly funk. 3. On the kitchen sink, Pre de Provence Violet moved on from the shower in early spring. 4. Usually by this time I have put out a linden bar. I love the little round Provence Pre Tilleul bars (not the same brand as Pre de Provence) but their prices are edging past my threshold. $12.00 for a not gigantic soap is awfully spendy to my budget, regardless of how good it smells.
Hair products.
1. Pantene ProV Repair and Protect Conditioner keeps my fine hair from flying away without gluing it down, and slows down breakage, and it smells ok. My hair gets longer faster when I used this. 2. Matching shampoo helps my hair grow and stay conditioned, but I do not enjoy the scent of this. When I use these together for a couple weeks the flyaways actually turn into ringlets. But three days of that and by the end of the day, my bangs will look like they have been dipped in olive oil, so then 3. Peter Thomas Roth Megashampoo smells amazingly good, and cleans off the build up, but after a couple of weeks the ringlets have disappeared in the flyaways, and we rotate again. 4. I love Aveda Shampure, but AD does not, so I have a bottle of this which I use when he is traveling for work. 🙂 He has an intense aversion to the herbs thyme and cilantro, and Shampure does have thyme in it. 5. AD uses his Old Spice bottle for everything, in the usual manly fashion. 🙂
Lotions and potions.
1. Garnier Skinactive Ultra lift. Best face lotion ever. Been using it for years. 2. Tuscan Grove Hand and Body lotion from Michel Design Works. Smells great. Feels rich going on but absorbs nicely. Smells really great by itself but is a sort of herbal neutral which works well with the rosemary bath products and as a base under all of my perfumes. I got a bar of this soap at TJ Maxx once and sought out the lotion immediately. My soap choices have evolved but this lotion remains a favorite. 3. Mary Kay Suncare sunscreen SPF 50. Ultimately just works better than all the grocery stores brands. Protects my sensitive Irish skin from the sun without annoying it. Also helps repel bugs, oddly enough. 4. Neutrogena SPF 70 sunscreen bar that comes in a deodorant style roll up bar. Travels well, doesn’t melt, doesn’t feel disgusting on sweaty skin, helps prevent the sun poisoning blisters and bumps I will get if my skin is not protected (in conjunction with the Mary Kay, which is applied liberally every morning but comes in a big tube so I don’t like to carry it with me.
And here endeth Meredith’s monograph on personal products, Summer, 2018. Who knew taking a bath required so much thought and planning? I have tried AD’s minimalist approach and ended up itchy, chapped, sunburned and broken out with a rosacae flareup, however, so I am actually pretty happy with my current range of products.
SOTD La Chasse aux Papillions . Pretty pretty pretty!
I love the Pre de Provence line, the linden is a favorite! I remember first discovering their ‘big bar’ verveine green soap, what an invigorating scent!
Pre de Provence Linden smells good, but my stupid picky skin finds it harsh for some reason….I use several of their other soaps, particularly that Violet one.
Great weekend post! Currently in my shower I’m using:
Shampoo/conditioner – Deva No-poo shampoo & leave-in conditioner. I switch off between Deva and Joico’s Moisture Recovery conditioner.
For styling – Moroccan oil, Aveda Be Curly, Confixor styling Gel and Brilliance humectant pomade.
Shower Gels – No 19 shower gel and Clarins Eau des Jardins.
Soaps – Clinique’s Aromatics Elixir soap, Provence Sante Linden (big bar), Roger & Gallet’s Sandalwood soap.
Did not know there was an AE soap!!!!
I adore this, it’s so mossy with a great patchouli note. It fragrances the entire bathroom!
Adding to my shower list: Dove InShower body Lotion. It smells like a cross between Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden and Cool Wave by Davidoff. It’s pretty nice and my skin is super soft!
SOTD is Tableau parfum’s Dark Passage. 🙂
Oh, nice! I have a bottle of that, it was a perk for sponsoring a movie. Must dig it up and give it a sniff again. I remember it was a beautiful, dry, chocolate iris.
Oh, goodness, that sounds lovely.
That’s exactly it! I thought I’d lost my bottle but it had fallen behind our towel rack. I’m glad I decided to weed out our bathroom and reorganize!
I tend to use unscented Tree to Tub shower gel most of the time, but when I feel like using a scented gel, it’s REN’s Seaweed and Sage Body Wash. It’s a perfectly balanced natural scent, dry and herbal, and very clearly oceanic, without any synthetic ozonic/Calonic distractions. I use that one in summer, then I switch to REN’s Moroccan Rose shower gel in winter. Other shower gels from REN are nice, but these two are my staples.
I keep meaning to smell the Rose when I’m in a store and always forget! Is it strong?
It is a good, solid rose of very high quality, not a powerhouse compared to composed rose accords bolstered by aromachemicals, but it definitely makes a statement. If you think you would like a nice rose au naturel in shower gel, try this; if you want a complex rose scent or ROSE on crack, look elsewhere. Hope this helps!
Thanks Akimon!
I use SheaMoisture and Schmidt bar soaps – the rose vanilla from the latter smells so great! Hair products are all SheaMoisture and for body lotion their baby frankincense and myrrh is seriously the best smelling thing ever. I would buy a perfume version of it!
YOu reminded me that my husband used to use that baby frankincense and myrrh body lotion! and you’re right, it smells amazing! my daughter just bought two of the hair products…one is a leave in conditioner – Jamaican Black Castor Oil which smells so delicious on her every time she washes her hair. The other one bought Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner which I steal from time to time because I like the way it smells and it leaves my hair softer.
My curls love the restorative conditioner and my nose loves the smell!
That SheaMoisture leave-in detangler conditioner is magic, I say, magic!
(and often in the three-for-two deals at Boots, for an UKers here…)
I need to try this one
Another fan of SheaMoisture Frankincense and Myrrh baby lotion; I use it as a hand cream and it is works miracles during winters and all year around, I just wish the smell was not so intense. I also love their Manuka Honey and Provence Lavender Baby lotion, it is not as moisturizing as Frankincense and Myrrh, but the smell is so wonderful and soothing (and I don’t even love lavender! :)), that I often put it on at night to relax and fall asleep faster.
Yes the smell is in intense! It perfumes the whole room
I used to love Davines Nounou shampoo but I can’t find it here anymore so I use Aveeno Baby Shampoo as it is gentle. I now followmwith Schwartzkopf Nordic Blone toner which makes my yellow/grey hair look more steel grey.
Soap…I like the sandalwood soap from the Indian grocers. It has a great smell, lasts and is cheap.
Cleanser: Antipodes Grace Gentle Cream. THis is an organic brand, similar to Aesop in style but made in NZ using mostly kiwi and fkax oils. Their Nirvana hand/body was and their Namaste wash is also good and their Heavenly body oil and lipsticks are terrific.
Face: Clarins SOS mask worn as a moisturiser (orange tube) …has a balm buttery texture. Then either the ridiculously named Estee Lauder Muli Daywear Advanced something something something that is SPF 50 or sometimes Invisible Zinc mineral SPF a billion. In winter Weleda sage deodorant spray. In summer Nivea. Hurraw lip balm tangerine chamomile spf, YSL kohl, Lancome concealer etc etc.
OOOO!!!! We love the Hurraw lip balms chez Marzipan! Have you tried any of the others? Each marzipan has their favorite but mine is the almond one. The cardamon, almond and rose is great too as is the chai one too. And the black cherry gives a nice rosy tint to your lips 🙂
We probably can’t get the full range but I like the Pitta balm , and the chocolate one, and the lime one. I will look out for the almond next time I go to Auckland where the selection is better.
I usually order mine from Vitacost because my local health food store does not carry the brand. Vitacost has a vast selection and the prices are so much better than Amazon especially when I get a 20 percent off code! If you come across other flavors do let me know if you like them! The coffee one is good too and also the vanilla chamomile (which has a name…sleep something? not sure).
It’s called Moon lip balm. Here is the vitacost selection- pretty extensive-

Not sure if they ship overseas, though 🙁
That’s reminded me…Licorice. That was a good one too.
I think I need to ship myself overseas.
I will add that the one shampoo that has me swooning because of it’s fragrance is Aubrey Organics GPB Shampoo Original Scent. If this came in a perfume it would be my signature scent. Years ago they used to include in the ingredients on the back of the bottle all of the essential oils that went into making it smell so good but this is no longer the case. Also they stopped making the conditioner and the shampoo is much harder to come by so my guess is that they are fading it out and will eventually eliminate it from the shampoo offerings. Such a shame.
Right now- Pre de Provence coconut bar soap, which smells more like shea butter with a tiny bit of sweet coconut. I’d like to try the new Method peony body wash, and Mysore Sandalwood soap.
Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap sounds invigorating, but people have said to be careful of getting it near private areas.
Oh yes! i would agree!!! on the peppermint anything near private parts-LOL!
SOTM = Arquiste L’Etrog Acqua…nice, but fleeting. Thunk!
SOTA = Arquiste The Architects Club…very nice summer vanilla, and once I wear it tomorrow, I will have finished up the sample set.
For the body, I have a few in rotation. Molton Brown Grapefruit and Vetiver. This is so lovely and fragrant, definitely more floral than I expected and will definitely be replaced. Another from Molton Brown, Caju and lime. It was reduced, so had to be bought but probably not one that will be replaced.
For the face, Kheils calendula face wash. Love this stuff and is not drying at all.
For the hair, good old head and shoulders. I don’t have a lot of hair, so this works just fine????
Oh interesting, the G&V is the one I keep meaning to try. Surprised it’s floral, I sort of assumed it was geared towards men.
Hello everyone! It has been a while since I posted here, as my interest in perfumes suddenly vanished about 1,5 years ago and I am slowly getting back on track 🙂
Nothing much exciting in my bathroom, as I prefer to spend my money on fumes and skincare. I normally use Kirkland or Caress soap bars and their shower gels.
For hair: TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes shampoo and conditioner in green bottles (repurchased multiple times), Moroccanoil Treatment Original.
For face: Vichy Purete Thermale Cleansing Foaming Water, Epionce Gentle Cleanser, Clinique TTDO balm, Eau Thermale Avene Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream, Vichy Mineral 89, Australian Gold Botanical SPF 50 Tinted Face Lotion.
SOTD: VC&A California Riverie from a newly acquired bottle 🙂
It is funny how it comes and goes, isn’t it? Welcome back, and congrats on your new VC&A!
I use shower gels in the tub, just a few drops to scent the water. I get BBW gels on sale. For cleaning, I prefer soap – I like the feel of lathering in my hand and that there is no plastic waste.
Shower:
Scottish Fine Soaps, Sea Kelp
Bath:
BBW At the Beach Shower Gel
BBW Caramel Apricot Shower Gel
Beekman Fresh Air soap
A goat milk soap, coffee-scented I got as a gift
I don’t use scented lotions as much – usually my giant bottle of Jergans,
I used to have a … problem with nice soaps. There were just too many. So I spent a few years on a soap no-buy and just finished them up. Now I usually have one soap in the shower; currently a Spa Ceylon Ayurveda soap in Neroli and Jasmine. Someone brought me back a sample pack of 4 minis from a trip, so the other three are my backup nice soaps. Once I’m on my last, I’m allowed to buy another soap.
For shampoo, I have Lush’s Seanik bar, with backup of Godiva bar. I love their shampoo bars. I use the Costco Kirkland brand conditioner–I steal the supply from my kid, show uses that and their shampoo.
Moisturizer is Aveeno, but I’ll use whatever I have around/is on sale. I’ve got a Dermalogica exfoliant for my face.
Does anyone have recommendations for hair products that make short hair stand up in spikes? I used to use an Aveda wax-based thing years ago. Then I was using Lush’s Sea Spray salt hair spray stuff, but I seem to have lost my (almost used up) bottle, and now I need something new. Ideas?
Depending on the texture you’re going for, either bumble & bumble sumo wax or KMS wax (they make a hard wax and a soft wax) might do the trick.
Checking in late this weekend…High school graduation party (#2) for nephew and a family reunion rolled into one. My brother, SIL and nephew were in town from Portland, OR to move my nephew to NYC for his job with Americorp. My nephew’s girlfriend found 3 women looking for a fourth apartment mate (4BR 2FB) in Washington Heights. There was a little kerfuffle with signing the rental agreement (basically, my brother would have had to guarantee the ENTIRE apartment’s rent for the full year so he decided to just prepay the whole year – why should he guarantee that the other 3 apartment mates will pay THEIR rent?). The rest of the weekend was a lot of family talk and eat time!
I went with vanilla this weekend — Jacques Zolty Van-Ile and Atelier Cologne Incensee.
Bath products currently on rotation:
– Harry’s Shower Gel Fig (not very figgy but very thick and smells good)
– Solstice Scents Creamy Whipped Soap Maine Moon (earthy gourmand)
– L’Occitane Bonne Mere Lemon Soap
– Nubian Heritage Carrot and Pomegrenate Seed Bar Soap
– L’Occitane Body and Strength Shampoo
– Kiehl’s Amino Acid Conditioner
– Double cleanse for face: The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil and La Mer Cleansing Foam. I have many of the La Mer cleansing foam tubes that I will use the up first before buying any more of my other preferred cleansing foam from Estée Lauder (it went thunk last week)
– Body Lotion: Clinique Body Butter and Diana Vreeland Body Cream
I will be taking notes while I read what others are using!
You DO realize that I have you to blame for the copious amounts of face products the mini Marzipan’s keep on the bathroom sink 😉 LOL! thanks for your generosity …..everything is getting put to great use!
Late to the party…
Currently I have three Lush shower products in the shower: Lush Aura Suavis shower gel, Lush Grass shower gel and Lush Needles and Pines shower jelly. Plus, once or twice in a week I use Future Primitive Soap Green Tea and Lemon In The Buff Body Polish. Oh, and Lush Buck’s Fizz body conditioner (it’s a body moisturizer, but you rinse it off in the shower). Buck’s Fizz has the same scent as Lush Bubbly, but unlike you, Robin, I like this scent.
I have a l’Occitane shower gel (Cherry Blossom) and some Scottish Soap Company’s Au Lait Body Wash.
I also use a wonderful soap from Nice called Pastis that smells just like the drink!
I also love the Sephora own brand shower gels.
Also very late to the party, but I generally only am on the computer during the week. This weekend was especially busy with my twin daughters’ 5th birthday party!
Shower – Alba Mango shower gel (got one of those enormous pump things on sale, so will be using it for a while!), Thymes Agave Nectar (Marshalls find), and a trial size Method Coconut Rice Milk Shea Butter. I keep meaning to switch to bar soap to cut down on plastic packaging but just keep buying more shower gel – this poll isn’t helping 😉
My husband uses Trader Joe’s Oatmeal Milk & Honey bar soap or something like that. Smells nice. I should just switch to that!
Shampoo & conditioner and face wash/scrubs are just whatever is on sale. Not picky about that stuff! Now hair products is a whole nother story that I don’t have time to go into.
Body Lotion – Alba Very Emollient Coconut Rescue Lotion. LOVE this stuff – very moisturizing, but not greasy. Used to use the unscented version, but one time they were out so I tried the Coconut one. The scent is not too strong and I find it much more rich than the regular.
