Here's wishing a very happy and safe New Year's Eve to you all!
We're marking the end of the year with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, any perfume-related resolutions for 2018, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Wishing all my fellow NSTers a great New Year ahead, may any obstacles you have be cleared and your days be filled with love & joy.
Currently watching it snow..babies are napping…
This morning I made scones after binge watching The Crown and watching the Queen eat scones..
SOTD La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche
Anyone have a resolution to get through some samples? Starting early.
I don’t make resolutions, but I do make plans. I plan to work through some of my too-large collection of samples. I did come up with an idea I want to try out. I think that part of the reason I don’t get through my samples has to do with the excess of choices. I have so many, it is hard to pick one–what if the choice was already made? This year, I bought a scented advent calendar, and I was thinking about making a sort of sample advent calendar for myself. I would select a number of untried samples and put them in the compartments of the (now empty) advent calendar. Then, starting on the first of the month, I open the corresponding door and try out the sample in that compartment. I can repeat the process each month until I have worked through all my untried samples. The advent calendar has 24 compartment, so it gives me several days at the end of the month to take a break from sampling or to play catch up in case I miss a day for any reason.
I love this idea – so it’s a fun surprise as well!
That is a great idea!
I also think instead of little spray or dab, I can really go for it and spray more and not be afraid to use it up!
I do not have too many untested samples but I have a lot of those that I tried and didn’t like or planned to revisit. I want to make a decision quickly and get rid of samples I do not want before they spoil. So, my next year is going to be a year of friendly swaps.
Great idea!
Advent calendars are fun, why not use them year round?!! 🙂 Haha
Your morning sounds lovely. I also binge watched The Crown, and I will probably go back and watch season 1 again, then season 2 a few months from now. I also noticed that she ate scones, and slathered them with lots of cream and jam. I love when Queen Elizabeth chose to have her next meeting with Jackie Kennedy at Windsor Castle — “Sometimes only a fortress will do”.
My recollection was that she puts loads of butter, then cream, then jam, which I have to say looked not at all appetizing to me. I do wish the Crown seasons were longer 🙁 We watched all of seasons 1 in a few days’ time, then waited and waited for season 2 and did the same. I’m not at all opposed to a rewatch, though – I’m currently rewatching Victoria in anticipation of the new season that’s starting soon.
Me too, though it’s gone downhill after Lord Melbourne’s part got reduced!
It looks like he comes back in season 2, but presumably in a diminished role 🙁 I am kind of in love with Albert, too, so that might be enough to keep me going 😉
The Christmas special of Victoria was really excellent.
Butter, cream and jam is the traditional English cream tea, I think it’s a bit much too tho.
Perhaps you should check out the obituary section in this weeks Economist ( the Dec 23-Jan 5 Edition) if you checked out Season 2 of The Crown
I don’t have a sample sea, but I do have a problem with keeping ones I don’t like, just in case… I need to stop doing that.
I really, really want to burn through my samples in 2018! I have so many of them and they’re just languishing pathetically.
At least if I try something and it’s not me, I have no compunction about tossing it in the bin, so I don’t have a collection of things I’ve tried and hated. Just a collection of things I haven’t tried yet.
Tossing samples in the bin seems kind of wrong: maybe you could collect them for the swapmeet or freebiemeet? Something that you disliked might be other perfumista’s holy grail (or at least will save them from spending more money on bad samples).
I do! I’ve resolved to try at least 2 per week, and to not acquire any more samples. This won’t finish them all by the end of 2018, but it will certainly ease my anxiety about the samples just sitting there.
I also resolve to get rid of samples that didn’t work for me. In that vein, I have two spray samples of Ummagumma (one brand new, one minus 4 sprays but with an added dot of red nail polish on the vial) that I will not be keeping. Shoot me an e-mail at payne underscore cm at yahoo if you would like to adopt one or both. Please take them off my hands!
Sistine,
What did you not like about ummagumma?
On my skin (which amplifies sweetness ridiculously), it just seemed to be a sweet holiday-candle mess. I haven’t seen cinnamon listed as a note, but it really smelled like cinnamon mixed with chocolate and incense. It was just too much. (It smelled awesome on my husband, however.)
I wanted to love it, but found it cloying and overly sweet.
Money saved!
Hi Sistine, where are u? I would love to try Ummagumma, but I live in the UK..
I’m in the USA, but I’d be happy to try sending it to you. Send me your address at the e-mail listed above.
And with that, both samples have been claimed!
Thanks so much Sistine, I’m sure I can send u something in return.
Happy New Year to u!
My samples are down to a manageable level. Before we moved this April and I speed tested the ones that had been rattling around then passed the vast majority of them on to others. Post-move, I’ve done my best not to add to the pile. I haven’t bought anything from sampling services (TPC, STC) since March, though I did pick up a few mfr samples on ebay over the summer.
DSH Madonna Lily today.
I’m baking Stollen – a family tradition (a sweet bread with candied fruit). I think of it as Swedish because it was my Swedish great grandmother who baked it for my dad, but I believe it is actually German.
NY resolution regarding fragrance: to continue curating but also wearing and enjoying!
Stollen was always a Christmas tradition in my family. My grandparents would bring a loaf (a gift from a German friend of theirs) when they came to spend Christmas with us. After my grandmother passed away, I started baking it every year. This year was, IIRC, only the second time in my life that I didn’t have stollen for breakfast Christmas morning. The other time was the year my oven died in late December and I couldn’t bake anything. This year I just didn’t have the time or energy to make it yet. I do plan to bake some early next week, perhaps Tuesday. After all, it is still Christmas until January 6.
Oh yes, stollen was very much a tradition for my German speaking grandmother.
Also, hiding a pickle in the Christmas tree. My dad had a pickle ornament from when he was a child that must be over 100 years old now, still faintly green where the paint has worn off.
Happy new year to all fragrant friends. It’s been great to be home this holiday week, headcold and all. On the road to very frozen places on Tuesday. Got my uggs and cuddle duds ready. Why do my clients never send me to Bali?
Robin, am working near your part of the woods so plan on visiting King of Prussia mall for the first time.
A touch of Sycomore today. Treated myself to a facial last ski gets dry from flying and heat.
One more day to put this year behind me.
Stay safe and warm. The Crown is so delicious this season!
We have a pickle for our Christmas tree, too. The kids enjoy the competition to find it first. 🙂
“Why do my clients never send me to Bali?” Love that. There is a family at my school that is going to spend the next term in Hawaii. I asked how that came about and the one little girl said they had prayed about it and God said they should go to Hawaii. My immediate question was, “Why does God tell me to have more patience with stupid people but God tells them to go to Hawaii?” Why?
Excellent question!
Ha! That’s cute. Maybe you need to switch to her god ????
I know people who will pray for guidance, and amazingly always are guided to do what they wanted to do in the first place. It’s uncanny.
It could be that they are already patient with stupid people so they get to go to Hawaii.
I am sorry to hear you are in my neck of the woods — it’s not a very pleasant place to be right now! But hope you enjoy KOP even if it isn’t exactly Bali.
Well, the good news is when the project is over in the fall, I then go to Dallas for the next phase. Easier flight, great restaurants and shopping and friends there. Lived there for 5 years before final move to CA.
Growing up in NY meant lots of drives to eastern PA with the parents and grandparents and when I see signs that say junction or diners all over, I feel like my dad is in the car with me. Maybe he is!
I have a close friend here in CA who is going to Harrisburg next weekend for Serbian Christmas so I may have dinner with her! That will be nice.
Serbian Christmas sounds fun!
We are not in such a rural area that we get junctions & diners all over, but, we can be in that place in an hour if we want to. If it was warmer, I would not mind living here.
I love stollen, homemade must be extra delicious.
Love the pickle tradition, had never heard of it before!
That sounds de-lish!
During the holidays my auntie makes all the cookies her my mother made..I love it! I always think to myself I have to learn so I can continue the tradition.
Yes lovestosmellgood, keep it going! My sisters’ granddaughters are now doing the find the pickle! I’m sorry my Christmas loving dad isn’t there to hear them sing O Tannenbaum!
Stollen is a German Xmas tradition. My FIL is visiting from Germany and has baked about 3 of them on the last 2 weeks (not my cup of tea) – but my hubs and him have been on stolen diet. Kids would not even look at it – all they want is chocolate chip cookies
And I am eating stollen (there are three loaves in the house) along with German spice cookies (hard ones in the shape of windmills that have slivers of almonds in the back and soft ones in heart shapes that are filled with apricot jam and covered in dark chocolate)…the six chocolate covered marzipan logs did not make it past day three in the house 🙂
and new years resolution is to stop eating so many sweets!
The hard ones sound like Spekulatius and soft ones like Lebkuchen. In a superhuman feat of endurance I managed to resist getting chocolate marzipan logs while in Germany this year. Now I am feasting on Spanish Christmas goodies instead – polvorones and mantecados, hojaldres and roscos de vino. ;^D
Wearing ELDO Fat Electrician. No reason for it. Just the first bottle I grabbed early this morning.
No special plans for this long weekend. We will be running errands, cooking, cleaning today. Tonight, we will head to Dyker Heights to see the Christmas lights. Other than that quiet and resting at home on New Year eve and day, watching tv and having some sushi and wine.
Happy New Year 2018 everyone! The best to all of you. Hugs! ????????????✨
We are planning a very low key New Year’s too, but will probably do movies & shake shack on Monday and I am looking forward to that. Sushi and wine sounds perfect!
We thought about going to the movies, but are not brave enough to face the cold outside. Love shake shack! Enjoy your time out Robin! ????
It is darned cold and hardly worth going out!
I took my dog out for a walk a while ago and after one block he was not eager to keep walking. We were both so glad to turn around and come back home!
I hope Dyker Heights was fun in spite of the cold! You’re very brave. I went last year for the first time and enjoyed it. Your New Year’s plans sounds very relaxing.
This was the first time for us going to Dyker Heights. It was gorgeous! For the past 2-3 years my mother wanted to go, so we decided to make her happy this year. Freezing cold it was, but hot coffee and tea helped a lot! ????
It is pretty spectacular-and I had just as much fun looking at those bizarre over-the-top mini mansions that look very out of place in that neighborhood.
Some of them do look out of place. Sometimes, we had to climb their stairs just to take pictures of their outside decorations. Otherwise, you could not see them pretty well from the street level…..
Overall the neighborhood is like any other. Just few blocks of crazy mini mansions as you say.
How are you guys celebrating the New Year’s Eve? Personally it’s not a big deal for me, I’ll be staying at home watching TV.
Even though I’ll be celebrating in front of the TV I need to thing carefully what perfume to wear, something that will fit a flute of champagne at midnight. Any suggestions?
Today I’m sampling Hiram Green Slowdive that I received yesterday in the mail. I smell a lot of honey, not too much white florals or tobacco.
I do not care to be out and about on New Year’s Eve.
We are going to my sister’s house later on today to watch the Saints football game. She’s cooking. And then I plan on being in my own house when midnight strikes.
Enjoy it anyway 🙂
That’s exactly what I hope to do as well. Stay on couch, maybe drink some champagne, and watch football. It’s just too cold for me. My only fear is that the fireworks will be loud and wakeup the kids. We live outside of city limits so fireworks are permitted. I’m pretty sure the county Sheriff gets a kickback from the firework stands for allowing them to operate.
We will be staying home, watching t.v too. I might have to get a special chocolate treat. As for perfume suggestions, I’m not much help, do you have one that you reserve for special occasions?
There are not too many special occasions in my life so I just wear one of my favorites then.
I was about to order a sample of Slowdive yesterday, but at the end I changed my mind. Do you like it?
For me it doesn’t outclass Arbole Arbole which is my favorite. I do like it but at the same time I don’t feel a temptation of adding it to my collection.
Thank you! Arbole, Arbole is a big favorite of mine. So no rush to sample Slowdive then.
Most NYEs of my life have been spent staying home watching TV, but I was always a little envious watching all the people having a good time at some fancy party. Now we have started sometimes going to one of the fancy NYE parties in our area when scheduling permits. This year was a perfect opportunity since NYE is on Sunday, so I am off form work and we can get to the hotel early and have plenty of time to get ready. We only go to those that are at hotels so we have a room for the night and can drive home the next day rather than at 1 AM with all the drunks on the road. This year w
Enjoy your ‘grand ball’ 50_Roses!
And tell us later what perfume you wore 😉
How about Midnight Patouchli…for the name alone
The name of this perfume is in fact Moonlight Patchouli. That’s a good idea but the perfume stayed in my flat before I left for my Christmas break at my parent’s place.
I’ll wear it as one of the first in 2018 though.
I will probably be in bed by 7pm 🙂
Just don’t snore at midnight 😉
Ditto, chocolate marzipan. I consider that it’s midnight somewhere and just go to sleep early!
2 final episodes of The Crown and bed by 9.
Slowdive sounds interesting, I generally like honey notes. I haven’t tried any Hiram Green, maybe my New Year’s resolution can be to make my list of future samples even longer 🙂
Because why not 😉
I’m planning to wear Baccarat Rouge 540 for my celebration scent. It feels very festive yet classy to me.
Not a fan of this one but Grand Soir I like
I pulled out my vintage YSL Champagne mini a couple of weeks ago so that I won’t forget to wear it tomorrow.
I haven’t left the house on NYE in years but we’re actually planning on (early) dinner and a movie tomorrow.
Now that’s a suitable perfume for midnight celebration
We will stay home watching TV with the dogs and drinking champagne. I plan to wear Amouage Fate.
Enjoy your TV party
New Year is my most favorite holiday, so we plan to celebrate it with a party going over the midnight, festive dinner and one of my all-times favorite perfume – OJ Ta’if.
Happy New Year to all NST’ers!
Belles Rives! The iris will complement the champagne perfectly and you can pretend you’re in a grand hotel.
Nice idea! I’m wearing Puredistance White for now, might change in the evening
Good morning. I am wearing L’Occitane Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc and drinking a cup of orange spice tea. Its very quiet here today, and beautiful, sunny and cold (59 degrees).
Your tea sounds yum!
59 sounds like summer to me now, LOL…
Happy New Year’s Eve Eve, dear friends! I am planning to wear MFK Grand Soir again for my flight back out west, back to a land where 40 degrees is considered very cold. Whew. Super low-key NYE planned, which is just what I need right now 🙂 I’m getting old, now that I am no longer in my 20s.
Fragrant resolution: just like lovestosmellgood, I need to work through my samples. I also need to really look at my finances and find a way to convince myself to STOP BUYING PERFUME. Really. Truly.
Good luck with that.
Grand Soir is a great choice for NYE.
Oh, my heart goes out to you, fellow addict. I hope I can refrain from buying more perfume for 6 whole months of 2018. It’s a big help to me–hate to say it–to stop following NST.
One thing that helped me to cut down on perfume spending is to keep a Donatella record year-round. Every purchase goes into an excel spreadsheet. I tally it up monthly and quarterly and have a set budget (though sometimes I spend more and sometimes spend less.) I cut my spending from 2016 to 2017 by 75%. That’s partly due to passing that rabbit-hole I HAVE TO SMELL ALL THE THINGS phase, though. And sitting on my hands a lot, and trying to be more selective about what things I really do need to smell.
I’m with you on getting through samples and stop buying. I have only one bottle planned for next year, LPRN Black Perfecto. Going forward in 2018 I am going to use a strategy I heard from a Basenotes friend who allows herself one bottle per quarter. So the Black Perfecto will be purchased in April (conveniently my birthday month) when I get back to Montreal. Like kpaint, I am going to log all purchases as I tend to forget from one month to the next what I’ve bought and then am horrified when I get to the end of the year.
That’s the one I would love to buy in the New Year too, tried it several times and planning to buy with my Pharmaprix points.
Happy and Healthy New Year
Same to you Hera!
So, 2017 is almost over, time to look back!
In september I started to keep track the fragrances I wear (in a simple note pad on my phone).
Havent had time to Excel them. But a quick look (and also my memory of the other part of the year) tells me these are among my most worn scents:
Fille en Aiguilles
Ormonde woman
Eau de Merveilles
Vetiver Blanc
Dryad
Jasmin Rouge
This morning I wore Afternoon of a faun, from a sample.
And in the afternoon (after a 5 km run + shower) Hinoki, by CdG
No perfume related resolutions…yet. 🙂
I was good about keeping track for about 1 month. 🙁
Oh I love Fille en Aiguilles. It makes my mouth water!
Fille en Aiguilles is special to me.
It is THE fragrance that pulled me straight into the rabbit hole two years ago, (after wearing next to no perfume for almost 15 years).
Also, its one of the few compliment getters in my collection. 🙂
And after trying dozens and dozens of other scents it is still one of my favourites!
I love it! I finally bought a bottle when I learned they were pulling it from the new Collection. Those top notes are pure magic!
No way.. Fille’s being discontinued?!
Mayfly, no, just being pulled to the bell jars, if the rumors are true.
http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2017/06/12/major-changes-at-serge-lutens/
You had a wonderfully scented year. Eau des Merveilles is at the top of my most worn list too. 🙂
I will be going through my notebook and tallying my wears either tomorrow or on Jan. 1. Hiris was at the top of the list for the first half of 2017. I’m very curious to see what tops it for the second half!
I love Eau des Merveilles – it’s so unique and gorgeous.
I am curious too! 🙂
And yes Eau des Merveilles is a winner. So versatile, safe for work. Elegant and easy to wear.
When my travel mini runs out I need a full bottle.
I’ve kept an excel perfume diary for 2 years but have never tried to track my “most worn” and am not sure how to go about it. Would you use some kind of filter? I’d love to get some tips from others who’ve done this.
I’ll let you know when I’ve set up my spreadsheet. I have no idea how yet. Sometimes I find out while doing that what works best.
Dont know what your set up is, but if you have all the perfume names in the first column and the amont of wearings in the column next to it, you can sort that second column from high to low.
Oh, hmm, that’s a thought… I’ll have to ponder.
I think there is a venue for this on Fragrantica that can track your most worn.
Yeah I had high hopes for my Excel spreadsheet as well…Lol!
Too much admin now!
I’m with you on Jasmin Rouge,I wore it a lot this past winter!
…and a spreadsheet feels like work…well at least to me it does.
I also thought about going back to a pen and paper diary.
Jasmin Rouge is gorgeous. I tried many jasmine fragrances, and this one ended up being one of my favourites.
I have a notebook beside my perfume collection and I record what I wear, including samples. Then at the end of 6 months, I go through it and tally how often I’ve worn everything.
The biggest thing I’ve learned from doing this is that the sample that I thought I needed a full bottle of? So desperately? Usually doesn’t even get finished.
I find myself moving toward the Robin approach: if a perfume’s not available in 30 ml or less, I’m not buying one (although her size maximum is smaller IIRC.) That does leave room for splitting, though. There’s a perfume I really want but it only comes in 100 ml (though 13 ml travel sizes are available in Europe.) The size is what’s really prevented me from buying thus far. I’d rather pay $100 for 30 ml than for 100 ml at this point (well, maybe… 😉 )
My rule is 30, but in all truth it’s hard to get me to buy even 30. I want 10 or 15.
If you wore mostly those, you smelled wonderful all of 2017!
Thank you!
I dont have the data from jan-sept. But I know from memory i wore lots of Vetiver Blanc and EaudM in the summer. Together with some of Hermes’ Jardins, Eau de Narcisse bleu and Vetiver Extraordinaire.
But I also tried lots and lots more samples in the first 8 months. While last trimester I felt more like wearing well known scents and giving my fb’s more love 🙂
Hello all! Just breezing around before work later tonight! Hope y’all are preparing for a wonderful 2018.
I’m wearing Courreges Empriente, the reformulated 2012 one. I don’t know if I told this story before, but awhile back, I was working a coat check and a beautiful middle-aged Spanish woman handed me her coat. It smelled gorgeous! So I asked her, politely, about her perfume. She got so excited! She said it was her mother’s perfume, and it had been discontinued for years. Then one day she was in a store and she saw they had relaunched it. She bought it and swore it had not changed. She wrote the name down for me and… Empriente!
I put off getting a bottle, even though they are dirt cheap online. I finally caved last week when I was trying to get free shipping. This bottle came to me for less than $20.
Well, it is very lovely. A mite clean, like most new chypres, but definitely a chypre. Reminds me a bit of new Diorella, but with the steaming melon note replaced by a dry hay note.
I have some of the vintage parfum (in a gorgeous painted-silver glass bottle) and it’s much more green, but have never tried the vintage EdT. Honestly, the new is quite believable to me. I can’t get enough.
What a wonderful story!
Thank you! I was really happy that she reacted so positively. It feels like a gamble when you compliment someone’s perfume!
That sounds lovely. Where did you get it online?
I prefer Fragrancenet but I think most discounters have it for inexpensive. You could probably even find it on eBay and Amazon, though I try not to use Amazon.
Hi everyone! I will be working tonight, but off the next two days! I always take New Years day off, to try and start the year off on a good foot. The weather people say another week or so and we could be back to normal winter temps. I’m wearing Bottega Venetta , I feel so good wearing it. I don’t know what’s changed, but I’ve been all about the leathers the past half year. I am wishing everyone a much needed Happy New year! You all smell great!
You smell great! I wore BV yesterday.
Thanks! I’m open to suggestions for any must try leathers. The ones i like best so far, are BV, Cabochard and Tuscan Leather. But I know there is so much to discover!
I like Mona di Orio’s Cuir, as well as PdE Cuir Ottoman, N Goodsir Cuir Velours, Dior Cuir Cannage and Lancome Cuir.
Thank you!
Leather is one of my favourite notes too. I love Cuir Pleine Fleur (Heeley), Cuir d’Ange (Hermes), Lancome Cuir, Parfumerie Moderne Cuir X, Le Jardin Retrouve Cuir de Russie, Jolie Madame, Bottega Veneta, Xerjoff 17/17 Homme…
Thank you!
I love Memo Italian Leather, and like Irish and Russian Leather.
Thanks!
I do love the Hermes leathers – Caleche, Kelly Caleche, Galop, Cuir d’Ange. They’re done in a different style than most – think luxury handbag vs. motorcycle jacket.
A Happy and Safe New Year to all…may 2018 be good to us.
I wore Grand Soir on Christmas Eve and am still debating about what to wear for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Yesterday I wore MFK Oud Satin Mood to a Holiday Party and received compliments.
I also have been wearing Alahine and Kalemat quite a bit during the Holiday Season.
Still sick and scentless. Happy New Year to all of you
Hope we both feel better soon 🙂 Happy New Year to you as well!
Hope you’re both better soon.
Get well wishes
To you, too. Also sick, also scentless — I cannot taste or smell a thing — and so NYE will be spent drinking tea with honey and lemon and trying to sleep. I look forward to going to town on my samples in 2018.
I hope you recover quickly.
Get well soon!
It’s gloomy and rainy so busting out Bapteme du Feu…one of my best favourites of 2017. Yesterday I solved my ‘wear a dress before the end of 2017’ problem by cutting one in half to make a top to wear with jeans ( the other half can fend for itself) …that leaves only my old wedding dress ( a scratchy grey tweed Karen Walker – it’s probably “vintage” which still smells of opium) and a dress I was persuaded to buy but have never worn. I have two dress gold standards: Ellen Barkin’s red dress from the movie Siesta from around 1988 and Juliette Binoche’s Unbearable Lightness of Being dress worn with woolly socks and sandshoes ( communist chic)…oh, and Debra Harry Heart of Glass dress. Anyway, making a birthday cake for tomorrow and a bit of last minute present shopping.
Love the dress solution! I almost liked Bapteme du Feu, I think it needs to join the los of things I need to explore further.
“…list”. Ooops.
I find some perfumes fail to make a strong first impression but they somehow take root in the back of the brain. These tend to become my favourites…because I have to work at them, or consider them more fully, or question them more deeply, or work out why they are so unpopular etc
Ditto on this! I had this happen to me with Thérèse, Cassie, Amouage Gold, Manoumalia and a number of others. I can’t explain why, but I now know that if I’m intrigued I’ll probably end up loving them long term.
Love your dress solution. Kind of curious what you will end up doing with the bottom bit.
It reminds me a lot of SL Mandarine Mandarin.
You smell lovely, and the dress solution sounds perfect! Mission accomplished.
I’m trying L’Heure Blend for the first time, from a decant I’ve had for months. I don’t think it will be among my favorites from Guerlain. Tomorrow, I will probably go shopping for next week’s lunches at work, but I try not to anything on NYE, even during the day, since the state troopers are out in force.
I did not immediately like L’HB either, and I’m still kind of off-and-on with it. Sometimes I love it; sometimes it’s too much.
I can’t abide LHB, but found L’Heure de Nuit, the updated modern version much more to my taste.
L’Heuer de Nuit? It’s Guerlain? Why have I never heard of this?
Yes, check it out! I heard rumours of its discontinuation but when I spoke to the Guerlain SA today at Bergdorf Goodmans they still have it in stock.
I love LHB,but it always makes me sad when I wear it!Or Melancoly, that’s a better word.
Just chiming in to wish my fellow Perfumistas a safe and happy New Year; hope everyone’s Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice was a festive one!
Not sure what I’ll wear today, maybe a dab of some Very Irresistible Givenchy.
And to you, GateGirl!
Was just adding a couple of things to my ‘to do’ list for my visit to my brother near Tampa in March & checked the Uncommon Finds (which I’ve mentioned on here before) site to discover that the location it was in the process of moving to in February when I was visiting my brother, so it wasn’t possible to pop by as it was between the old & new locations, hasn’t been terribly successful so it’s no longer there! Currently there’s a ‘holiday season’ pop-up shop in a gallery & the owner says he has no intention of closing the business down & to ‘watch this space’ for future information. I’m so disappointed! The owner & I exchanged emails back then, so I will definitely get back in touch with him nearer my travel date to see what’s going on & if there’s a possibility of actually purchasing anything. If not, I’ll have to make do with Neiman Marcus as I think it’s the only upmarket department store there!
New Years’ Eve 2017 almost!
What.a.year!
What a 2 years actually!!
Lol!
Well bbq with my best friend and some other people at the country club on the estate where I live tomorrow at 5pm.They prepare the fires and grills and supply all the sides so that makes life much easier!
After that Paul and I will hit ETC,local club, for some dancing, the countdown and a big cigar-we recently started a new tradition of smoking cigars whenever we need to celebrate something!Haha!
Happy New Year everyone and NST.
It’s gonna be a wild awesome ride!
X
Cheers Johano!
????????????
Happy New Year Mr.Bear!
✌????????????♂️????????????????????????????????????♂️????????????????????????????
Have fun! My husband likes to celebrate with a cigar as well as a single malt scotch. I prefer champagne. Happy 2018!
I prefer the bubbly as well!Have fun!X
Your celebration souds fantastic! Have fun Johanob. Happy New Year 2018! ????????????✨
Happy New Year to all. I’ve enjoyed the reviews and discussions this year, usually without commenting, and appreciate the kindness and generosity of spirit of the NST community.
Wearing my safety scent Fate today. We usually go to a dinner party on NYE hosted by my husband’s college roommate – a themed dinner to which all contribute. Our assignment is baba ganoush. Sigh. Loathe eggplant. To counter the eggplant, planning to open and wear a Christmas present: Delrae Amoureuse.
2017 was a challenge. Hoping 2018 will be better for all.
Sorry about the eggplant, but I hope you have a wonderful time at the dinner. Maybe next year’s theme can be “anything but eggplant”?
I also hope 2018 is a much better year than 2017. Happy new year!
I suspect if that’s suggested, next year will be all eggplant :).
Oooooh, Amoureuse. That’s a perfect scent for celebrating the new year.
Thanks!
Have you read Love in the Time of Cholera? My favorite line: “Very well, I will marry you if you promise not to make me eat eggplant.”
Love that book. Time to re-read. Thanks, Regina.
You can make a nice alternative baba ganoush using vegetables that can grill/ char slightly…kumara ( sweet potato ), beets, celery root, pumpkin. Just make it as you would using egg plant …so grill until soft on the inside but slightly charred on the skin. Then blend into a dip. I think you coukd find recioes online…the kumara ( sweet potato ) is great

This is good too
What a great idea, Kanuka. We’ll do one with sweet potato too. I’m willing to eat that. And thanks for the recipe.
I love eggplant but have never thrown or been invited to a party where I was assigned to bring a specific dish or drink, and the idea makes me chafe a bit TBH. Hope it’s fun, though!
There’s an element of ‘friendly’ competition, which is anxiety-producing for me and my husband. On the plus side, we’ve been introduced to many different foods and cuisines.
I loathe eggplant too. I would try Kanuka’s suggestion!
I adore it, but we call it aubergine, which sounds more inviting. I like it any way as long as it’s not too scorched, including just roasted with olive oil.
Happy New Year, almost!
We’ll be having friends over for wine & nibbles tonight. Then tomorrow night, hanging out at home; making braised beef short ribs (nom nom nom) and will probably pop some champagne or prosecco to sip while we watch a Harry Potter movie. We might be able to see the Santa Cruz fireworks from our deck since there’s no fog (snicker: they’ll be tiny, this far away).
And now, off to clean before the guests arrive…
Dinner twins! We’re having braised short ribs tomorrow night too. Yummers.
Do you have a favorite recipe? This is our first time making them. Wouldn’t mind a recommendation 🙂
We use a recipe from The Babbo Cookbook – Braised short ribs with pumpkin orzo and horseradish gremolata. We only made the pumpkin orzo once, but we’ve made the short ribs and gremolata many times. We’re having it with mashed potatoes instead of orzo.
http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2006/03/babe_im_on_fire.html
The recipe is outlined in this blog post.
Thanks!
Coromandel EdT for me this cold morning. I love the ideas if using up samples…maybe I’ll try that with a weekly pill holder. ????????
We generally cook a steak or have beef fondue in NYE. Haven’t gone out in years and, given the forecast, this year isn’t the time to change that tradition….
Thankful for college football victory last night. Happy mood here. And the football team ended in a draw this morning. I didn’t watch the college games…I was busy binge-watching the rest of Season 1 of Broadchurch. Well done. So much complex humanity. Looking forward to continuing with Seasons 2 and 3.
But I will comment that the PAC 12 is not showing well…. quite pathetic, really.
I like Broadchurch too, hope they will do a season 4.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! NST is as wonderful as ever.
This year has been busy and memorable, I’m hoping next year is just as good, but that might be a big ask. We’re spending New Year’s Eve with friends, and we’ll probably be back home in bed before midnight 🙂
I’m not sure yet what perfume I’ll wear, probably Idole, which I got for Christmas. Meanwhile, I’m contemplating the day in a dab of Natori. I’d read lots of great things about it, but it’s a little sweet for me though I’ll happily use up my 1ml.
How did Neroli outrenoire work out for you yesterday
Happy New year to you
Departing from my recent norm and wearing Box of Eels today. The sun is out!! The rumor is it may be out for the next 2-3 days!! Happy New Year to me!
Off Sunday through Tuesday and hoping to have a low key sunny time here is the Drippy PNW.
Hope you all have a superb and safe New Years. Thanks, Robin, for another great year here on NST. ✌????
I hope you get in some fun dog walks while the sun is out
You small great!!
Hey, thanks for joining in!
I’ve been mostly scentless for over a week now because my husband is really sensitive to them and he’s been at home on vacation, but I can get away with beard oils because they don’t carry very far (yet they’re located right under my nose so I get the full effect): today I’m in Skipper by Beards & Beavers, which smells like orange peel and spicy bay rum and is so delicious. (They also make one called Smashing which smells EXACTLY like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange — highly recommended! And if you don’t have a beard, it makes a perfectly good skin and hair oil, too: a tiny drop on your lips makes them really smooth.)
Those beard oils sound delicious. My brother-in-law is bearded and well-groomed. I will mention those to him, I think he will be pleased. 🙂
That Smashing sounds great, thanks for the tip!
Happy New Year!
Here’s my question for everybody. With rumors that Turin and Sanchez are doing a new Guide, do you have any hopes or thoughts on what you hope they’ll mention/love/hate among the perfumes released since the first book? Personally I love them no matter whether we agree – their writing is just so good – but warring with that is a feeling I’ll throw the whole book out the window if they don’t love Slumberhouse. (I feel pretty sure they’ll love Slumberhouse, but they have surprised me before!)
This feeling brought to you by my bottle of Sadanne which arrived yesterday and in which I am lounging today. It came with some more Slumberhouse samples, cementing my love for the house. Especially New Sibet, which smells so exactly like a head shop that I went to in Provincetown when I was 13 years old and bought a flowered dress, that it managed to make me vividly remember a place and dress I haven’t thought of in a decade at least.
This year I am hoping to stop spending my perfume budget in drips and drabs on little bottles I like, in favor of saving it up for more expensive things I truly love. (Obviously, this thought also brought to you by Slumberhouse.)
A new Guide will be great fun. I hope the authors will do a commentary on the state of mass market prestige offerings. I like to imagine Chanel is firmly in their sights. Heh.
That trend is so puzzling to me. I have to assume it’ll end soon? The identical (Chanel knock-off) bottles, the ridiculously exorbitant prices, the dozen scents all dropping on the same day… I can’t imagine the design houses have done well by this? They create their own internal competition by premiering so many scents at once, I’d think, and the identical bottles – don’t they just cause confusion? Or at least prevent the buyer from making some kind of association with the one they tried and liked? And if one sells well and the others don’t – what to do then? Discontinue some and not the others? Cancel the whole line?
Exactly! It seems a strange strategy.
I hope they had a change of heart about some perfumes they trashed that I love love LOVE!
But it was THE GUIDE that started my journey as a Serious Bonafide Perfumista, and lead me to my first purchase as one:Beyond Paradise.
Then L’Heure Bleue
Mitsouko
Nahema….all their fault! The writing was seriously excellent and funny, although I felt personally attacked by everything said about Mona di Orio and the line…still, looking forward to the new guide.I think I read on Twitter they said “submissions are now open for our updated guide”,or something like that.
I alao hope they skip most celeb scents.
If submissions are just getting underway then a new edition could be years away I would think. And if they panned almost everything you did the first time (e.g., Creed) would you give them the time of day, let alone more samples? I enjoy their writing and perspective, and I even agree with them more often than not, so I’d definitely be a buyer.
Luca said on Basenotes that it should be available for pre-ordering from November, though that’s come and gone and I haven’t heard. Looking forward to it! I love just to read them, though my taste doesn’t always chime.
The NST community is my “guide”
I read one of his reviews from the guide and realized that we are not in sync and passed the book on without reading anything further
That is a shame – agree or disagree with their taste, it is the best-written work of criticism I’ve ever read.
Not for me, I can’t remember what perfume it was at the time that I was wearing but when I read his review and he associated it with something horrific smelling I could not long disassociate that remark with that perfume and it just ruined it for me…
Oh no! That would make me mad for sure.
I’m with you. It’s great writing and a fun read. I can’t say I tune into their ratings all that much so I don’t really care if they and I are in agreement. It’s also just a great resource.
LT’s collected Folio columns are a hoot. Highly recommended to anyone who’s a fan of his writing. I also miss his blog, though IIRC he put it on pause to focus on the new Guide. I may be misremembering that, though.
It’s interesting that you mentioned Slumberhouse. One of my least favorite brands. Everything smells a little medicinal and quite “jagged” (or the opposite of smooth) and unfinished on me. It must be me or my nose as others like you feel quite the opposite.
Well we’re definitely smelling the same perfumes – those are kind of the reasons I like it 😀
Ha – there’s room for all of us at the perfume table!
That said, I do hope they include lots of all the new and young niche houses including Slumberhouse.
I thought Turin and Sanchez were no longer together but maybe I got it wrong? Or they still work together well?
They are married and have a child now.
Good – happy that I was completely wrong!
Any flankers on the way? 😉
Really excited to hear this!, my copy of The Guide is practically falling to bits it’s been referenced so much.
I’m usually in agreement with them, but they can be undually harsh.. did u see Luca T’s response to Kevin’s love of Miel d’bois,( in his review of Naja) he said it was an “abomination”!
Oh! A new Guide with new niche brands would be nice. I also love Sadanne! My favorite Slumberhouse is Kiste, a perfect tobacco/peach.
I’m wearing Hiris today, just because it’s so lovely. Running errands so I can hang out with my husband tomorrow and enjoy his awesome company. We always celebrate New Year’s together at home, because we always have to travel at Christmas to see our families. This year was harder than usual because we spent Christmas apart.
I hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2018. My goal is to be as positive as possible, and to challenge myself to really enjoy and appreciate the best parts of people, places, and experiences.
You smell fabulous. Hiris is in my top 5 most worn for the year. 🙂
I love and agree with your goals! I plan to do the same. Be here now.
Hubby and I used to go out on New Year’s Eve when we were young. It got to the point where restaurants were charging a lot more for the second seating and we didn’t need to be there at midnight so we would go to the earlier seating. Sometimes we would go out the next night instead! Or for brunch. So last year, after several years of just staying at home, we finally made a reservation to our favourite Swiss/German restaurant. It began to snow in earnest and the car had to be abandoned at the top of a very long, steep road. I cancelled the reservation but made one this year. We’ve had snow but it’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow. I will wear LL Midnight 2004.
Hope the weather will allow your dinner tonight!
Thanks, we did make it this year. It was so foggy at midnight that when we were home we couldn’t even see the fireworks downtown. The cold snap in Canada continues but here on the West Coast, it’s merely frosty in the mornings.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful writers for this site as well as the kind commenters. I still think this is the best perfume site and it is the only one I go to daily!
I’ve been run off my feet these last few months but wanted to pop in and say thank you to all of you who provided a few moments of warmth and escape this year, and to wish you all a year ahead of peace, health and prosperity in the year ahead!
You all smell divine, and I do too in Ambra Aurea today 🙂
You smell great! Love AA.
SotD = MEM
I would have worn MEM for yesterday’s community project if I had found the sample in time. Oh well. Message received, must tidy up.
I sorted through samples and re-organized them first by when I acquired them, and second by perfume house. That works best for me.
Going forward I hope to be more thoughtful in my perfumed life, to use and enjoy what I have with intention.
Peace and purpose is my wish for everyone in the new year.
Waft on, NST, you smell mahhh-velous.
That is a great perfume resolution 🙂
Hear hear! Use and enjoy what we have with intention, perfect. Peace and purpose! I will join you.
Wearing Samsara, which smells even better than usual today. I hope all who are ill recover quickly, that we end the year with a grin that tides us over until 2018, and that we survive whatever befalls us in the new year.
you smell fab!
Wearing PdE Aziyadé today, will switch to SDV tonight and finish the bottle! Yay!
Have a great evening with your ‘fumes
Thanks! Had a great outing with the dogs, sunny and warm with lots of good squirrel-chasing. The best kind of day, according to my girl Dot. 🙂
Am re-testing some splitmeet goodies from earlier this year: Neroli Outrenoir on one wrist and Piguet Knightsbridge on the other. I should have tested them on separate occasions. I don’t like the way NO smells on my skin, but keep getting lovely wafts of something and can’t tell which it is.
Heading out in a couple of hours to see (and hear) Duke Ellington’s Sacred Music. There is a local big band that does the entire program annually. We went last year and were STUNNED when one of the saxophone players (who is also the best musician in the band) stepped out and started tap dancing! Turns out he began studying music and tap as a wee lad.
I haven’t quite decided what to wear yet, but am considering Habanita edt and Edward Bess Genre. We’ll see; there’s a good chance I’ll end up in something else all together 🙂
Enjoy the last days of 2017, all!
NO was a love for me..
I had forgotten about Edward Bess, even though I thought they were all lovely. I don’t think I noticed them in any of the best of 2017 lists, which is too bad. We need lovely, flattering fragrances, too.
I agree, but it looks like they came out in 2016. I wonder if they made any 2016 lists?
We had proper sun today, and the wind died down, so it was like being transported into Summer, with just the hint of a cold edge to the occasional breeze to remind us it’s December. TOMK and I went to the Botanical Gardens in La Concepcion in the north of Malaga City – despite our many visits to Malaga, we’d never been there before. It was a wonderful half-day out, whether tracing the sounds of streams and cascades though the lush subtropical foliage of the Old Garden, or the views from the ‘route of the gazebos’ (ruta de los miradores), or the smell of the pines in the sun. A magical escape.
SOTD was Ralph Lauren “Safari for Men”, current formulation.
Top: aldehydes, artemisia, coriander, lavender, green notes, neroli, bergamot and lemon;
Mid: cyclamen, carnation, cinnamon, tarragon, jasmine and rose;
Base: leather, sandalwood, amber, patchouli, musk, oakmoss and cedar.
I don’t really know why I never bought this back in the nineties – I loved the bottle and the whole vintage travel schtick. Anyway, it still smells nice in current formulation, but doesn’t last terribly well.
Please tell the sun to come visit The Netherlands. We had only 2 or 3 days of sunshine this month 🙁
Sounds like you have a great time in Malaga. I love botanical gardens!
Your descriptions of your days out, always make me smile:). And makes me happy for you.
Happy New Year to all! We have no plans for tomorrow night; everyone is sniffling so we will just stay in. Alahine today for a flute choir rehearsal. Something warm and comforting for tomorrow.
Hope everyone recuperates — enjoy your quiet New Year’s!
Happy almost New Year to everyone!
Spent the day out with a friend and hubs- went to see The Phantom Thread in the 70mm version which my friend suggested. Not sure I’dknow the difference but I guess it worked for the period and ambience of the film. I found it enjoyable, but not particularly memorable. Beautiful cinematography and costumes. Good acting and score. But Daniel Day Lewis, though…
I fished out my sample of Aroma M Nobara-Cha since someone metioned it this week. It smells like a rose otto, geranium EO, and sandalwood. I think I never revisited it because it’s frustratingly quiet on me, but I do love its dark, earthy rosiness and the sandalwood drydown is really nice and smells very natural. It’s the edp, but now I’m hankering to try the oil version.
Tomorrow eve will be dinner with some friends and then a NYE meditation and intention setting ceremony with the weekly meditation group I attend. The fact that it’s in walking distance is the big motivator, because I’m otherwise prepared to hibernate until it gets back up to at least 35 degrees. I’ll probably wear Ouarzazate since it blends in nicely with the surrounding smells and it’s a fairly low sillage perfume.
Daniel Day Lewis…. Swoon! Such a good actor. I fell in love with him in Last of the Mohicans, and wanted to kill him in There will be blood. I hope after a break, he returns to acting.
I also hope he doesn’t disappear! He was very hateable in There Will be Blood, wasn’t he?
That whole movie was hateable. (imho)
Ha! I think I recall one redeeming bit of humanity with that intense scene with the preacher guy. Anyway, Magnolia will always be my favorite PT Anderson film.
That was me that mentioned the Nobara-Cha. Yes, it is quiet. I think I will like it better in the summer.
Apparently Wrappings is no longer sold in Canada, but when I was at the Clinique counter I sniffed Black Aromatics and it seemed quite nice. Anyone have any opinions?
I wore Molecule 04 yesterday, from a sample from Arielle Shoshana. I really enjoyed it – smelled like I just sliced into a very juicy and flavourful orange.
Haven’t yet decided what to wear today – since it is after noon and I am still in my jammies I haven’t had to make too many decisions. All the best for 2018, my friends.
Yeah, I think wearing it under so many layers didn’t help much. But I could still smell it on my arms this morning! The sandalwood is really nice in it. Do you have the oil or edp?
It’s the EDP. I’m tempted to do Geisha Noir in oil.
Oh, I want to see that and sorry to hear it is not memorable. Maybe I’ll wait for Netflix then.
I feel like it’s the kind of movie that I won’t remember all that well in a year from now, but of course, others might have a different experience. I liked seeing it on a big screen, but could’ve been happy watching it at home.
It doesn’t take much to convince me to wait for Netflix 😉
I saw a trailer for that movie and couldn’t quite figure out which genre it falls into. Is it a thriller? If it were about fashion, I’d be up for it, but it seemed like that was maybe just backstory. We are going to see that Hugh Jackman Showman movie tonight. I only recently started seeing movies in theaters again and am always up for spectacle 🙂 *jazz hands*
I guess I’d characterize it as a psychological/relationship drama. The fashion part is not exactly backstory and plays pretty prominently throughout the story, but it’s not “about” fashion, it’s about the relationship- which is twisted and a bit sick but in a subtle way. The clothing is great btw. The whole atmosphere of the movie felt a little stifling, including the continuous musical score-I don’t think there’s any part of the 2 hours that doesn’t have music playing in the background. Showman looks like a good big screen choice. The preview looked fun-let us know how it is!
Happy New Year !! We stood out on our deck at midnight and listened to our tipsy Scottish neighbour sing Auld Lang Syne at the top of her voice ( fantastic) and heard the sound of fireworks in the valley and city, and got a glimpse of the big moon through the clouds.
Can’t decide on a perfume this morning as I feel it ought to be an exceptionally good one and that the year will be jinxed if I get it wrong. Maybe Cristalle?
Cristalle is ALWAYS right. I might join you after I shower and get organised for my day.
Cristalle…of course! I’ve been dithering about what to apply today and you called it! Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
I have wonderful neighbors, but they aren’t likely to be singing tipsy Scottish songs tonight. Too bad!
I hope you have a wonderful new year, and please know that whatever perfume you ended up choosing it was gorgeous, and didn’t jinx anything!
Woke up this morning with a sore throat: ( but yesterday I finally received my sample of Aura! It was one of those towelette samples, so swiped it all on today. Very happy, that on me, I don’t get much menthol smell at all. Mostly Smokey vanilla. I like it. Although being a little under the weather, I don’t trust my first impression. Happy New Year everyone!
Hope you are better soon lillyjo!
Oh, no! Hope you feel better.
Get well soon! I hope you get another chance to sniff Aura when you are feeling 100%.
Staying close to home for New Years Eve because Mr. G has a bad cold coming on. Am in 24 Faubourg and enjoying a latte with crossword puzzling this morning. Stay warm, all.
First “good morning” from 2018! I hope this year is good for all of us. It’s started warm and wet here, which is a blessing, because we need rain. Good first day, then. Augurs well.
I’m not properly perfumed yet, ‘cos I’m lying lazily in bed, wondering whether I want a cup of tea more than I want to stay here, all relaxed and comfortable. At the moment, relaxed and comfortable are winning, so my current SOTD is the remains, and quite potent they are, of Jean Louis Scherrer 2. Now that’s a properly perfume-y perfume! It’s an unabashed effort to contain organised, arranged glamour in a bottle: not sex or prettiness or charm, not freedom of spirit or gender balance or anything “modern”, just long-legged, silk-stockinged, high-heeled, tailored glamour. It feels like a period piece to me, and though it doesn’t suit me at all, I like it. It’s up there with my memories of my sister’s perfume from the sixties. Ebbi is eight years older than I am, and her perfume used to make me swoon with pleasure and long to be an older girl. She used to wear Nuit de Longchamps, and it had exactly the same connotations of a high life lived with self-conscious art.
Well, I hope that little rave isn’t an omen for my posts this year. Alexander has now bounced across the dear man and is pushing his hard little head against my face. He wants breakfast, and I want tea. I shall go and attend to both sets of needs. Be well tonight and for the whole if 2o18, NST.
Happy New Year to all!
As someone wise said, I am making plans, not resolutions. My plan is to knit myself a sweater this year. I am looking to increase my knitting skill set.
Of course, my first try will be a baby or toddler size, so I can get out some of the kinks in my process before taking on am adult size
Scent-wise, the ban on perfume at work means that I do not get to enjoy the full breadth of my collection, and samples are definitely a no go for day wear.
So my perfume plan is to replace the samples in my makeup bag regularly so I can apply for my trip home after work.
Given all that, my bedtime scents this is year are Chanel n. 22, Bois des Iles, Samsara, Nirvana Black, and Givenchy Very Irrisitable edt for fall/winter and Balmain Ivoire (new) for summer. Probably another few summer options, but blanking on them just now.
Wishing everyone a year of laughter, new adventures and favorite traditions. Xoxo
Bedtime scents in 2017, that is. Who knows what 2018 will bring ????
I like your sleeping style 🙂 Bummer about the ban 🙁 Does it include all fragranced items (cleaning products, personal grooming goods, hand soap in the workplace bathroom, etc.) or just perfume?
Just perfume/cologne, thankfully
Also strange, there’s a bottle of body spray in the ladies room, and horribly intense “odor neutralizer” sprays in all the bathrooms. So it’s not a scent free workplace, just ban on perfume.
Is the perfume ban because of allergies?
Not sure, it wasn’t explained.
To be honest, I still do a small spritz of something quiet and soap-like under my shirt. In fall/winter I use SJP Lovely, haven’t burned out on it yet. No one seems to have noticed, and i would say it was lotion or hair product if asked point blank.
Now wearing one of the last few drops of my SDV decant for New Year’s Eve. Cold and clear here – SDV is perfect. Happy New Year, all!
Happy New Year from Barcelona! I am getting ready to leave for New Year’s Eve festivities. I chose SSS Bee’s Bliss for this occasion.
I met up with Gabriela on the 29th. She is a lovely lovely person and I am glad to have met her. My days have been packed with visiting sights and museums and eating (oh the eating).
No resolutions for me as of now.
Speak to you in 2018!
Happy New Year- hope your trip if fabulous! You will WOW everyone with your scented scintillating self ✌????
Happy New Year Hajusuuri! We are frozen here, so enjoy Barcelona the most! ????
Oh wow – have a wonderful time – sounds really great already!
Have a fabulous time!
Happy New Year Hajusuuri! You picked a great time to be away. brrrrrrrr…..
Happy New Year! I wish I could try the things you’ve been eating…
Feliz Año Nuevo!
Enjoy, hajusuuri!
Hope NY Eve was fun, you are in the perfect place for it!
Happy New Year! I am so jealous….Barcelona is on my bucket list for this year. Which cruise are you on? Details please!!!! I need to make some plans for later in the year.
Planning a quiet three day in town to avoid traffic, intoxicated people, and curmudgeons.
Happy New Year to all and wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2018. The sun is out and I just about busted into song! So happy to see it, and feel its gentle hug on a cool day. SOTD is the warm, cozy Vetyver by PdN. Haven’t worn it a while and quite enjoying it here in the PNW.
Preparing myself for working 5/6 days starting the end of this week, then will head out to the coast again for 4 days. I absolutely fell in love with the Cape Perpetua area. If you like rugged, untamed, dramatic wilderness areas, put Cape Perpetua on your bucket list. Just stunning and takes my breath away every time I see it.
Finally, a huge thanks to NST and it’s people- a wonderful community I’m so happy to have discovered. I’m grateful for too many things to count, tangible and intangible, so T-Rex and I are off on a mini hike to make the most of the last day of the year. Cheers!
Happy New Year Deva!
Happy new year!
I’m celebrating with my family in a very low key style this year and it feels perfect.
I’m wearing my most recent find, from an Elizabeth Arden outlet store, namely Michael Bubles By invitation. He is not my favorite artist so I had no idea about him putting out a scent, but the bottle is striking so I took it up and smelled it. It’s, to me, a flowery, spicy oriental in the style of the late eighties/early nineties. It instantly reminded me of Ungaro Desnuda, but it has been years since I smelled that so I can’t be sure about the resemblance. Either way, I bought it and I’m happy about it 🙂
Next year, I plan to buy less and do more yoga. And have more patience with myself and others.
Best of luck and love to you all!
Vanille d’Iris today, just because someone mentioned it yesterday, and we were heading to an afternoon movie – it’s a quiet scent. It’s cold out there! We saw Jumanji, which is quite funny and entertaining. Kevin Hart makes me laugh…he barely has to do anything, and I start giggling.
Still rather cold in our apartment, even though we had the heat valve turned on in the bedroom. I think it took off some edge, but it didn’t fully heat up. I’m fine, but my husband isn’t terribly happy. Hopefully, he’ll be fine once he starts cooking dinner.
It’s the 1st of January, nearly 1 a. m., where I am, so happy New Year, everyone! Thank you for all your posts and comments here, I have enjoyed reading them.
Wearing Carnal Flower (so gorgeous!). What scent were you (or are you going to) wear while celebrating the New Year (if you celebrate it, of course)?
You’ve started off the year smelling gorgeous. Hapoy New Year!
I don’t know why i keep typing Happy wrong….
Thank you!
Happy New Year’s Everyone! Wishing all my NST family good health, happiness, and prosperity in the New Year. It is New Year’s Eve here and just hanging out with friends. I was contemplating fragrance for today. Decided on wearing Chloe for today. It was a Christmas gift. Be safe my scented friends.
Happy New Year NST community!! Wishing all health, happiness, and great sniffing in the coming year.
Thank you to Robin for her tireless work in creating such an informative and friendly place in cyberspace. Thanks as well to Kevin, Angela, Jessica, and Erin for their excellent reviews and discussions.
And thank you for joining us!
Happy 2018 everyone – I’m celebrating in Vol de Nuit parfum, my very best favorite.
