Our routine open thread poll for a lazy weekend. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last fragrance you fell in love with from a tester in a real brick 'n mortar store, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Smellin’ good, Bear. Getting on the emoji train. I hope I didn’t just give you the finger. And, as I chose the above, it gave me the choice of skin tone. Oh lordie.

I love horseradish, and never have it in the house when I want it. ????
Culinary tip: Horseradish loses its heat in the fridge, especially when it was made fresh… but wasabi in a tube is a great stable back-up when you want that rooty heat!
That is my problem, the horseradish goes bad, I throw it out. Then I don’t have any. Don’t love the flavor of wasabi so much but I guess I should try a tube and see.
So the funny thing is that most “wasabi” we get in the US is horseradish, dyed green. Here’s one article: https://www.epicurious.com/ingredients/wasabi-vs-horseradish-the-difference-how-to-buy-and-store-article
HA! So it is just the green I don’t like? I swear it tastes different, but what do I know. Maybe it’s just because it’s not fresh.
For me, boring turkey needs something awesome like horseradish!
I also wore Coromandel EDT this week and enjoyed it though I had to be really restrained with the amount of perfume I put on because in the office I have a person who’s sensitive to what I wear (but does’t complain much, so I try to be mindful).
Every time I read about your workouts, it reminds me that I need to do that as well – please keep doing that! 🙂

I love Thanksgiving, but even more than the standard meal I love sandwiches made with leftover turkey, lettuce, freshly ground pepper and mayonnaise (Duke’s all the way, and you non-Southerners have no idea what you’re missing) on leftover rolls.
Creamy horesradish sauce with ketchup makes awesome cocktail sauce according to my husband.
For me the best part of passover is the Hillel sandwich with LOTS of horseradish. 🙂
Tjat is a great sandwich. Once actually made it once on a regular day because I had a craving.
Throwing my hat in for horseradish mayo! Best of both worlds to me.
Hello everyone! I’m sitting in a cafe right now, drinking an Americano. I’m reading The Invention of Morel by Adolfo Bioy Casares and it’s keeping me pretty rapt. I may just finish it if I get another coffee.
I picked my newest purchase, Le Vetiver by Lubin. Just gorgeous stuff. Like a clear day in winter, when the blue sky is only marred by your breath. Doesn’t last forever but I got the big bottle. 🙂
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Oh good, will look up that book! And the winter reading poll will be next Saturday. ☕ ????
Bear’s emoji addiction is contagious.
Pick a perfume and match it with an emoji project? Lol ????????????
Bonus points for silliness!
It’s a tight novella. The edition I have says it is par with James’s Turn of the Screw and so far I’m agreeing.

An addendum: after my second americano, I went to an estate sale. And what did I find??? A sealed (still intact baudruchage!) bottle of Chant d’Aromes parfum. The crazy medal-looking bottle, maybe 30ml? A cursory look on EBay and… I saved enough for an Hermessence! I’m scared to open it honestly. There were more goodies but I’m going to go back with my “emergency” credit card. I couldn’t lose the Guerlain though.
How fabulous – enjoy it! I bet Chant d’Aromes parfum smells wonderful.
Wow!! Excellent good day.
Congrats! I love finds like that.
WOW. Excellent bargain finding!
Wow, great find! What did yo go back for, if I may be so nosy? ????????????
Thank you everyone!
Nancy, I went back today and got a refill canister of Chamade EdT (I would guess from the late 80’s/early 90’s as my mother had one for Nahema), a 50ml bottle of Samsara EdT (a clear bottle so before the sandalwood shortage was felt), a mini of Jardins de Bagatelle, and a 7.5ml unopened bottle of Caleche parfum. Oh, and some Gucci Rush!
It sounds like a lot but the proprietor (a dear friend of mine and my first boss) didn’t price everything too high to begin with, and on Sundays runs everything 50% off. I walked out only $70 lighter.
Wow, you cleaned up! Congratulations on your finds. Can I go estate shopping with you? Be my sherpa? ????
I don’t usually do so well but this sale was culled from quite a few estates. Someone loved her Guerlain!
A quick hello to everyone. I’m still up in the cold north but at least it’s sunny. It’s a bit stressful helping my 86-year-old mother get packed up for five months in Texas. Today I’m wearing Zoologist Civet. I saw their announcement on Facebook that they are on three top 10 lists for the Fragrantica Readers Choice awards. Good for them! Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Sunny here too, happily, and hope the rest of the packing goes well!
I wish you a lot of strength and uneventful way back home.
I hope the packing and the trip back to Texas goes very smoothly.
Good luck with the packing, and I hope you have a safe trip home.
Greetings everyone! I’ve barely posted in months, not since I reported that Mr. Lucy bought me a bottle of Le Parfum de Therese for my birthday in August. It turns out all I needed to break my perfume obsession was one glorious bottle! I’ve been quiet (but lurking!) Reporting the same scent everyday doesn’t really follow the spirit of the daily poll. I’m in it again today, but just wanted to say hi to everyone. I hope you’re all enjoying the holiday season!
Mini review, Lucy ?
I think I have a sample, but maybe it is the Cassie scent that I can never remember the name of.
LOLOLOL ????
????????
I’ll try, but it’s kind of one contradiction after another…there’s a lot of fruit, a little floral, some spice and some leather. But it’s not syrupy, flowery, nor spicy. The notes of melon (which is usually a no-no for me), plum, mandarin, jasmine, nutmeg, and leather kind of sound like a hot mess, but somehow they’re not. It’s light and very elegant, complex but easily wearable. My favorite part about it is that it works just as well for a black tie event as it does for lazing around the house. It’s one of the few expensive fragrances that I think is worth the $$$.
I almost forgot, I do wish it lasted a little longer. I can’t smell anything after 3-4 hours.
Thanks! ????
????????
I think it’s great you have a perfume you love and wear all the time!
Thank you. I haven’t put such a big dent in a bottle in years.
Nice to see you! Sounds like you’ve found your fragrance – for the moment, anyway!
Nice to see you too! I’m not quite ready to sell the rest of my collection off yet, but I’ve been seriously thinking about it.
Such a great scent to cure a perfume obsession!
It really is lovely. It’s the first one I’ve worn since joining NST (almost 10 years ago!) that I’ve wanted to wear everyday. Elegant enough to wear anywhere, light enough to wear everywhere. 🙂
Do you live in tropics and drink the same one drink every day? If no, you can participate in weather discussions and share the strength of your coffee or the name of a tea blend you’re enjoying with your beautiful perfume 😉
You make an excellent point!
Hey, if it’s perfect for you, there’s no need to switch! Other perfumes can wait.
I’ve tried hundreds over the last few years, yet so few are worth buying. I’m very lucky to own one I love so much.
That sounds lovely! It’s nice to really wear out and enjoy a bottle of something you love.
Thank you. I’m a little ashamed – the last time I finished a bottle was in 2002. Now I have way too big of a collection with just a smidge missing out of each bottle. I actually look forward to finishing this one someday.
Hi everyone!
Also delurking just to say HI!
I still read regularly,am still a HUGE perfumista and still have NOT finished the big perfumed apartment project. No leave until March ‘18 either!
Happy Holidays everyone!
Hope all are safe warm loved and happy!

Good to hear from you, Johano !
Cheers! ☕☕☕☕
????????????
Hi!, I had actually planned on calling you out today! And here you are. Happy Holidays to you too!
Hi Johanob ! ????????
Glad to see you Johanob! You too enjoy the holidays!
Since I don’t come here every day, I was wondering if I missed the report on your “perfume room” (that is not a room, if i’m not mixing something).
Have great holidays!
Nice to see you!
Best of mornings, everyone. I’m drifting lazily around the house in a potent cloud of 1270. It’s gorgeous for this cool part of the day. Every now and again I get a vapour trail of small spices and self-possessed flowers shimmering agsinst the creamy booziness of the base. It was expensive — yes, yes, Donatella, I see you there— but worth it.
I’m cautiously optimistic that Eric’s new treatment regime is helping his poor tummy. We’re now giving him just antibiotics and probiotics. No more appetite stimulant, not ever again. We’re also able to stop trying to get him to eat bunny, which is a blessing, because he has all day to refuse in, and we don’t have all day to spend tempting him. Titus finished the last of the rabbit yesterday. He’s really quite the little pigling, prepared to eat anything, and he’s so plump that his chocolate stripes bulge outwards. He’s enchanting, but very definitely overweight. . I tell myself he’s about to put on a growth spurt, but that might be the silly fondness of a devoted owner. He might, in fact, simply be fat. Alexander is nicely covered, but leaner ( and less greedy). Eric is just a dot, but he now weighs 3.16 kg. He makes slow progress, but at least it is progress.
Goodness, how I ramble. Sorry. I think i’ll go and make breakfast and contemplate the quiet city. Be well, all.
Please don’t apologize, waterdragon, your posts are interesting and beautifully worded and definitely add to my day.
I’m glad to hear Eric is doing so well! Have a wonderful day with the kittens.
Woke up at 4 and really wanted more sleep, so I stumbled into the closet (with the lights off) and felt around on the perfume shelf until I found one of the SSS travel sprays. Got the sprayer oriented and spritzed a little, figuring whichever one it was would be soothing. Sure enough, I dropped right back to sleep with a wrist near my nose. It was Pacific Forest.
Piney goodness!!
This was the best incentive to try Pacific Forest. If it’s so well loved you can find it half-asleep, it’s definitely something of interest!
LOL! It’s definitely worth trying, blind, half asleep or otherwise. 🙂
I got four Byredo samples as a gift with purchase from Luckyscent. Mojave Ghost, Velvet haze, bal d’afrique and Gypsy Water. The only one with any longevity on me was the Velvet Haze; of course, since I’m not really a fan of Patch-dominated scents. I Iiked the Bal d’afrique but probably needed a heavier spray. Didn’t like it enough for the price point, though! After samples, sprayed some PdN Sacrebleu Intense, which is making me happier.
I recently bought a decant of Bal d’Afrique (after I finished the sample), and I can confirm that sprayed from a bigger sprayer it stayed on me for at least 8 hours – and I didn’t have to press my nose to my wrist to smell it. I like it but do not see myself wearing it enough to warrant a bottle.
Morning, all! In a breach of my no-buy that should surprise absolutely no one who knows me, I received an order of Dame body products (it’s ok because it’s indie, right??) with BFMV hand cream, Sky Father hair oil, and the most gorgeous orange blossom face cream. The hand cream is luscious but a bit too strongly scented. I haven’t tried the hair oil yet. The face cream smells PERFECT. That is EXACTLY the scent and level of scent I want on my face. However, it’s a bit too thick to wear at any time except the dead of winter.
So I smell of BFMV with some SSS Champagne de Bois clinging to my sweater from yesterday 🙂
My last brick-and-mortar love was Mirus Silver Lining, which I’ve since purchased! Can’t wait for it to arrive, wheeeee! I wonder how long I should wait for a tracking number before I start to panic.
I know you said the face cream is thick, but does it sink into the skin quickly or just sit on top for awhile?
My skin is pretty dry, so it does eventually sink in 🙂 ymmv though. I think I’ll probably only use this cream when my skin is truly in need of serious hydration.
I’m working on getting over a headache that I had while sleeping and adjusting to a new pillow. No perfume yet, but I can still smell Ummagumma on the sleeve of my pj shirt from when I tried it out Thursday evening. It’s phenomenal! Chocolate and saffron up front that soon morphs into chocolate and frankincense and dries down with still the incense prominent, but now also even more warming notes of vanilla, labdanum, cedar, and sandalwood. I look forward to seeing which notes I pull from it in further wearings. For me it’s a really exciting yet comforting perfume.
And the reason I received a sample is that I ordered the travel spray of Unsettled during his Black Friday sale. Unsettled is pretty fun and definitely is identifiable as a Bruno Fazzolari. It’s taken aspects of Seyrig (RIP, I appreciated you too late) and Room 237 and made them more wearable with the pineapple and sandalwood notes. Any other Seyrig fans or lovers of fruity aldehydic slightly off-kilter perfumes, as Unsettled is to me?
I feel I’m writing a novel, but I also want to say what a long week it has been and how happy I am for a Saturday with nothing to do. I’m hoping to make some more progress in the second book of the Southern Reach trilogy, Authority, and maybe watch a fun movie or two. I’ll probably wear vintage Caron Narcisse Blanc because my treasured decant is evaporating.
I hope your head is feeling better! I’m excited because I’ll be trying Unsettled tomorrow – I got my sample set yesterday. (Feu Secret is amazing!)
Thanks, it has gotten better! It’s amazing what lots of water, some coffee, a mostly healthy breakfast, and some fresh air can do for you.
I love Feu Secret too. I must remember to wear my decant soon.
Hi everyone! Just got back from Sephora. I was trying to spend my twenty dollar coupon, but came home empty handed. I have Black Orchid on one hand, and Cafe Tuberosa on the other. I have samples of both, just couldn’t talk myself into full (affordable) bottles of anything. Anyway, heading to work, will spritz something else later. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Love Decadence, saw you wore it yesterday. ????
Bought a tester that is just the green glass (that cap !!! LOLOLOL ????????????), have to wear it soon.
Cheers lillyjo! ☕☕☕
????????????????????
Yeah, that cap is something else. It’s a little Peg Bundy for me. Lol ????????????????????????
They had those cute travel sprays of Café Tuberosa at my Sephora, but I already have 100mls so I didn’t buy. Got myself a decadent fluffy bronzer brush by Marc Jacobs.
I almost had myself talked into the travel spray, but then couldn’t decide on what to put with it, to use my coupon. ????
Still in my pajamas on a rainy morning. Very late wake-up today, zipped to the post office only to discover it’s not even open until noon on Saturday.
My pajama top still smells like Salomé from Wednesday! I also tried Ummagumma when I went sniffing with Foxbins in Portland, immediately wanted it, but held off until I could experience the dry down. So. Now it’s been added to my ever lengthening list because the dry down on me is a beautiful smooth incense. Good stuff!
I wish my post office will open at 12pm, but it closes at 12pm. That requires me waking up early on Saturday to get there on time or go somewhere else where they close later.
I need to get a sample of Ummagumma. I see people liking it a lot and chocolate, saffron and incense sounds like a great combo!
Yay, more love for Ummagumma! Did you know Bruno Fazzolari is at Fumerie in Portland later today? I so wanted to go, but I have an obligation tomorrow that makes me unable to travel there from Seattle.
Would love to go, but I’m working tomorrow. Plus, I’m pretty exhausted due to working 4 12 hour shifts in 5 days, so not feeling like a crowd of people right now.
Ergh, I don’t blame you one bit. I hope you can rest up today.
Wearing Cafe Tuberosa again in hopes that I will change my mind about it, but still it does not make me happy after the initial coffee blast. Like Lillyjo I still have to spend my 20 dollars in Sephora and not so sure yet how I will spend it.
Doing some decanting now for a couple of Nsters and then
I will go to the mall to do some holiday shopping.
My hubby is out of town with his mom since last night to visit a friend who lives in a nursing home. They are bringing holiday presents for all the patients. I am so glad they will put smiles on some people’s faces today.
In the meantime I will take advantage and spray lavishly in whatever perfumes I will be wearing until tomorrow when he is back ????.
Have a great weekend everyone!
This is the time of year I go into Sephora and only look at the gift sets; they are terrific value and can be split up to share. I won’t say that I bought three sets…
That is a great idea AnnieA! I will go back to Sephora next week and check the gift sets.
Enjoy yours!
Sometimes those coupons give me more stress than they are worth. Awesome thing your husband is doing with gift giving.!
I agree with you. I fight with myself between the savings and the real need of getting something.
My husband and his family do it every year. It is a family tradition. I am very thankful for it.
Wonderful tradition!
It is! Sometimes I join them, but today I had to do lots of things at home.
Hello December! I failed to check-in with everyone in a community project yesterday.
I feel extra proud of my mom right now as yesterday she passed an exam for becoming a clinical transfusion specialist. The whole specialization lasted 3.5 years and for the last 2 months she fully dedicated to preparing for the exam (to the point she wasn’t making dinners) but now it’s over!
She loves CdG Kyoto and her bottle is almost empty. She should treat herself to a new one.
I’m in Ramon Monegal Ambra di Luna today. Feeling warmer thanks to it.
Congratulations to your mom, Lucasai! I agree she well deserves a full bottle of Kyoto! I hope she treats herself for it!
It’s an achievement (and is totally worth not cooked dinners, which, I’m sure, other adults in the family were able to provide ;)), so congratulations to her!
When my husband was gravely ill, the transfusion specialists were angels. Please tell her congratulations and thank you.
Congratulations to your mom! A new bottle of Kyoto is definitely in order.
Your mom should be very proud! How wonderful that she passed the exam just before Christmas and can relax and enjoy the holiday. Congratulations to her, and to everyone who supported her along the way.
Congrats to her! Great accomplishments.
Congrats to your mom, Lucas!
Just got out of the shower and spritzed on Mandarine Ambree. I got a decant last month but this is my first time trying it. I am so backed up with discovery sets. I haven’t even taken my Zoologist discovery set out of the package.
That’s a good thing to be backed up with, right?
I have decants of Mandarine Ambree. It layers well with strong vetivers like Teree d’Hermes.
DAESIN WINTER WINTER WINTER!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
WE are decorating the tree the house, running back and forth from the barn, it ss a beautiful outdoor scent!! Perfect for today.
I could ROLL in this stuff like my puppy – so much smoke and lavender Ahhhhhhh .
now for a bit of the bubbly! 😉
May blessings and gratitute prevail NST’ers!!!
You have been such a lovely diversion for me over a VERY difficult year.
thank you.
couldn’t t
I will start the decoration tomorrow. I am pretty sure yours will be beautiful and you also smell amazing!
Blessings and happiness to you too AngelaB!
I plan to be decorating tomorrow but your excitement is contagious 🙂
I hope you’ll get a break from the difficult year soon.
You smell great! I have Winter and just ordered Winter Nights.
This is now out on the front door:

Thinking of you…
Happy weekend everyone 🙂
It’s a lovely day here, and we’re off to the Thorndon Fair later this morning. It started years ago as a small school fundraiser, now two streets are closed off and there are hundreds of craft stalls. I’ll be looking for a few Christmas presents, and trying not to spend too much. I went a little mad buying fabric yesterday, the Royal New Zealand Ballet had a sale of costume fabrics.
I’m starting my day in a cloud of Mandragore. It’s disappointing light and doesn’t last, but is lovely for a little while.
Hope the fair was fun! What will you do with the fabrics?
I’m spending the day packing up Christmas presents for the nieces and nephews. Have to get them in the mail this week, since we’ll be on the go after that.
SOTD is L’artisan Havana Vanille as I am trying to pretend it’s a cool winter day (it’s not – it’s 80 and sunny).
Looking forward to the winter reading poll next week! Yay!
80 and sunny, I am jealous!! And just starting my Xmas list.
In Chane Sycomore EDP again today. Got my bottle of majda bekkali tendré est la nuit from luckyscent yesterday and hit the sample jackpot! They had a 10 pc sample gift with purchase so I got some from lubin, the different conpany, ex nihilo, and Il profumo. Patchouli noir from il profumo is going on my to buy last, dry dusty patchouli very much in the style of SL Borneo 1834, which I’ve been threatening to buy a bell jar of forever. Cologne 352 from ex nihilo and islander from parfum d’empire will be tempting me next summer!
Another patch fan over here! ????
In a perfume I always forget that I own so slight is its hold on me. But today I woke up in the mood for it. Post shower I am radiating Roma. My bottle, curiously, says “Made in Germany” on the bottom. I spent a nanosecond googling it to see if I could make sense of why it was manufactured in Germany (I am still none the wiser) and learned that Laura Biagiotti passed away in May this year. I remember my first bottle of Roma in the late 80’s. I don’t know if the formula is so very different or my nose is different, but gosh I loved it then. Well, today it is perfect too.
I think her license is held by an Italian company too. But no idea if there are any fragrance & flavor companies in Italy actually making perfumes.
I have my new laptop up and running at home after an annoying hiatus. Have Heure Exquise on one wrist and Beige on the other. Went a little crazy during the sales and now have about four packages on their way. As of today my holiday shopping is done, so just have to concentrate on the cards.
Wow, you smell incredible!
Hello everyone.
I’m in Bavaria. In a small town. I miss the city. (Berlin, that is. Munich is not a real “city” to me.) I’m wearing Habit Rouge as Eau de Parfum, and I think it must be the version without oud. Any time I wear it I long for more. I reapplied it once after three hours. It is so soubtle yet … leathery-musky. Strange… it’s like a musky skin scent, and I do love it. I just miss a bit the characteristic orange dust of the EdT. The (discontinued) EdT Légère does feature this wonderful drydown, and I also own and love it for it’s natural neroli note. But it’s so bright it would „dazzle“ me on this dark winter day. I keep smelling myself and wonder when I will finally get around treating myself to the classic EdT version of Habit Rouge. I used to think: „I have two different concentration of HR, do I really need the EdT version as well?“.
I am realising now that I do.
I think of Habit Rouge as the only men’s fragrance that can compete with the best women’s perfumes. One of my best friends loves his Byredo — I think it was Baudelaire — which smells loud, harsh and cheap to me. An he finds HR too „heavy“. My mother, when she smells HR EdP on me, she cringes and comments that I really seem to like „heavy, oriental perfumes“ (she loves clean florals like Estée Lauder’s Pleasures). Strange world …
Have a good First Advent!
Happy Advent to you too! Habit Rouge is a great classic.
Hello Lars,
Habit Rouge EDT is a classic that smells very clean and soapy on my skin.
I didn’t like it on myself, but my Mother always commented favorably. I wore it to her funeral and it was a comforting memory.
Enjoy! I’ve not encountered the EDP.
????☺????
Ha Ha, don’t let the Munchkins hear you. ;^)
SotD = Papillon Parfumery Dryad, from a sample
Got a fabulous samples grab bag from STC and had to try Dryad first. Marvelous, elegant, and a clear nod to Vol de Nuit. Angela’s NST review is spot on.
In less elegant weekending, does anyone have a robot vacuum they love? We have indoor birds at our house, and I’m ready for some help with the daily scatter of seeds and feathers.
I’m on the fence about Dryad…it has that burnt rubber smell and not in the way I like about it in Bvlgari Black.
Noses can be so different. I don’t smell burnt rubber in either Black or Dryad. I do get a sweetish-plastic-rubbery hum from Black. I will try Dryad again and apply liberally from the sample so it’s more like a real spritz.
LOVE the tote bag you linked to. I like the blue one. Too cute.
I don’t have the mojo to carry the blue one 🙂
Wearing Bois d’Iris today from the recent split meet, and enjoying it immensely.
Very proud of myself for starting my Christmas shopping early this year. Not so proud of myself for sneaking a prezzie in for myself already (Eau Des Merveilles shower gel). Bad girl! On the other hand, I’ve been working very hard lately so I kind of deserve a treat.
Trying to figure out a great present for my lovely landlord. Usually I just get him some wine which is the only thing I know he likes but I think he’s had to give it up due to health issues. Any ideas for an alternate gift? He is not much of a food guy, and perfume is out of the question. Hmmm…
Does he like tea or coffee?
He probably does, or at the very least someone coming over might. Good idea!
CD or a magazine subscription?
In that situation, I usually go to World Market (or whatever is similar) and fill a basket with small sized products: tea, coffee, hot chocolate, a mug, crackers, you get the idea.
Or I give a plant (Amazon’s succulent collections work well even if your gift recipient is like me and does not have a green thumb! https://smile.amazon.com/Shop-Succulents-Unique-Succulent-Collection/dp/B06XRBJDTN/ref=sr_1_4?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1512257029&sr=1-4&keywords=succulent+plants )
Thanks for the ideas. Shopping for “the perfect gift” really stresses me out.
A coffee mug, like this one.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/jsgu/?srp=36
A gift card to a local restaurant.
I am drenched in Tea for Two, lazing around on a beautiful sunny Saturday. The last perfumes I fell in love with from a brick and mortar store were Twilly and Café Tuberosa (although I only actually bought Twilly in the store, Sephora did not have Café Tuberosa available in my store so I ordered online with my 20% discount).
Our house in San Diego is located in the hippie beach community of Ocean Beach and they have a cute christmas parade every year with surfing santas, woodie cars and bagpipers which is tonight. It’ll be fun!
We lived in OB about 25yrs ago! Think I’ve discussed that with you, but can’t be certain. ???? We lived just to the left of the pier on Ocean Front. We had to move when our son began walking, bc we were right on the cliff. Man, did we love living there! And going to the Christmas boat parade was so fun!
We are up at the top of the hill just above the OB pier. It’s a nice walk down but a good workout to walk up. (13% gradient). Fortunately there is a good pastry shop on Newport to fortify yourself before the trek home.
You smell great! Today I was just looking for my little decant of Tea for 2…
That sounds like such a fun event! Have a great night.
Have fun at the parade! A surfing Santa sounds awesome!
That sounds like a really fun parade. I’m a Twilly fan too.
Really enjoying Vanilla Flash, courtesy of the lovely She-Ra. It’s perfect for this time of year!
YOu smell wonderful, love Vanilla Flash!
Yes, you smell great! I’m a fan of that one as well.
A gift from me to me:

SOTD = Tauer Dark Passage
Woot, it’s a start to my patchouli week.
I will be entering a least healthy cookie contest (for fun at work). With a fewvideas from yesterday’s SOTD thread, I am most likely going to make a deconstructed twinkie and marshmallow fluff cannoli with christmas conferti chocolate ganache. It will likely be presented as a oarfait.
????????????
I was naughty and purchased a ‘from me, to me’, which is expected to be delivered Monday.
Excited, and it was a blind buy.
To be continued……
Your cookie sounds like a winner! ????????????????????????????????????????????????
Good luck ???????????? and enjoy! ????????
????????????????????????????????????????????????❤????????????
I’m glad I’m not alone in the blind-buy from me, to me present! Mine should be delivered Monday, too – exciting times, my friend. 🙂
Yes indeed, Aparatchick !!
Almost like I’m seven again !!!
LOLOLOL 🙂 😉
Enjoy !
😀
I’ve been naughty all year 🙂
Oh my goodness. It took me 5 minutes to form a mental image of that dessert. I hope you win – you should win just based on creativity!
I’ll try to remember to take a picture.
Cute bag! Patchouli week sounds like fun, I think I will join you as I have quite a few in that category.
As for that cookie, oy, my teeth hurt just thinking about it.
I also got mini M&Ms and was tempted by Christmas Tree and Snowman peeps.
Adorable bag ????
Thanks! Hope you’re enjoying your time in CA!
Theorema, which is always right.
Yes, indeed.
Can’t argue with that.
I’m wearing Safran Troublant today. It only works for me on cooler days (which where I live is any day where the high is below 65 F), but on those cooler days it is heaven. I smell incredible, if I do say so myself.
I’ve been watching Andy Tauer’s advent story videos and I have fallen in love. I adore his mellow voice and I can’t wait to hear where the story goes. It’s such a relaxing treat to just pause and listen to a story.
He is such a sweetheart, I have met him in person and he is warm and funny.
You know, it’s funny. I’ve been listening, too, and I think I have an attention problem. I have to restrain myself from checking on the remaining video time.
I think I need to start meditating. Not trying to be flippant, but I really do have monkey mind. ????
I have a question:
I recently realized that my bottle of Méchant Loup has split! It now looks like… well… salad dressing. The alcool (?) is floating on top and there is a heavier golden liquid (essential oils??) at the bottom.
Just like salad dressing, when I shake the bottle I end up with and opaque liquid. The scent is not affected by this split–nothing that I can detect anyway.
In 35 years of wearing/collecting fragrances I have never seen this before. Has anyone else experienced the “salad dressing” split?
That is weird. I’ve not had that happen except to a decant or 2 that went cloudy, but I assumed that was from opening them to dab.
I have seen it happen, but the perfume had completely gone off.
I’ve seen it in my older store-made samples of Serge Lutens. I did not bother to smell it…it looked gross and ummm contaminated.
So sorry! Such a great scent too.
Happy Saturday! It’s too cold here in Sacramento. Same weather that I left behind in NY and I did NOT bring a warm enough coat. They also don’t seem to utilize heat indoors so the coat hasn’t come off since I got here. Went out walking around Old Sacramento earlier with my husband’s family, followed by Mexican food, which will be followed by more food at some cousins in a short while. Wearing SSS Fireside Intense since we were out last night and the air smelled just like it! It’s a less aggressive scent than I thought and will probably end up finishing this sample after all.
Sounds like a lovely scent. Yeah, those valley towns can get surprisingly cold in the winter.
I just got a sample of FI too and it wasn’t as strong as I was anticipating either. I plan to buy more.
Safran Troublant today. Exactly 6 months to my wedding!
Getting close! Woo hoo!
It will go fast. How exciting!
Nice on both counts. How’s the perfume coming along?
Yay!
No lazy weekend yet; spent most of today running errands! But one offered some fun: I had to go pick up a corsage for my teenaged son, who has a Christmas dance to go to tomorrow, to give to his date. So I wore Jo Loves No. 42 The Flower Shop to test if it really does smell like the inside of a florist’s — and yes, it certainly does! Luckily today was also a very warm sunny day here, so a floral green fragrance wasn’t out of place. To top it off, I wore Gucci Envy on the other wrist, to see if they resemble each other. They do! Happily for me, as I love green fragrances and florals.
I hope your son has a good time at the dance. You smell great, I’m going to have to investigate Jo Loves now.
Hope the dance goes well!
They looked so cute together! It’s a tradition in this city that one of the families of several friends going to the same dance hosts a “picture party” for all the kids and their parents, so we can all take photos to our hearts’ content. It’s really nice; it puts all the kids more at ease than if they were alone together, and we parents get to take lots of pictures before we have to vanish. The wrist corsage looked lovely on his date, I must say. White roses with a couple of small sprays of red berries to go with her red dress.
No real scent for me this Saturday. Showered with the Hinoki gel and then used a Boots almond body butter. The combo stayed subtle and nice.
Watching way too many disappointing football games and had a nice, completely unhealthy dinner with glazed ham, scalloped potatoes and green bean casserole. An excuse for me to pull out the apple cider syrup to use in my glaze.
Looking forward to singing my favorite Christmas hymn tomorrow morning. O Come, O Come Emmanuel. It’s always such a beautiful start to Advent. We may even get our tree! It’s always such an entertaining discussion.
Apple cider syrup? Is it sour? If yes, that would be right up my alley!
It is more sour than sweet, which makes it very nice. I mix it with maple syrup for my pancakes. Carr’s Ciderhouse is the brand. I got a bottle in the Berkshires a couple of years ago. A splurge, but it lasted me over two years….
Your bag is darling!
I don’t know if this has reached the States but surely deserves a daily lemming:

Yesterday’s scents were Ecusson (a recent ebay bargain) and Miss Dior, both vintage edcs. Still waiting for inspiration to strike today – it’s cold and grey and I’m chivvying younger son to do his homework properly.
Went with Opardu in the end; beautiful and a late entry for the Friday project as it’s by Annie Buzantian.
We were twins!
Cute tin!
HA — I just put that in today’s gift post! That company has some other lemmable things too.
Good morning!
TOMK has been confined to quarters with a gammy knee and is going stir crazy, and by yesterday was at the “take me anywhere but here!” stage. So, we drive up through the low grey cloud and drizzle to the Derbyshire Dales and wandered about Matlock Bath for a couple of hours. It’s a very small inland resort town in a limestone gorge, so we walked through the public gardens and along the river before having a late lunch (or for me a very, very late breakfast) in a quaint cafe. I picked up some facsimile Victorian Christmas Cards, TOMK got a pair of Nepali trousers, and more to the point the whole excursion lifted his mood completely.
SOTD was Hermes “Ambre Narguile”, inadvertently continuing my amber theme from last week. I should manage 4 days of patchouli in the week to come.
Right, time to shower and pack for the week ahead. I will need to catch up on client work in the afternoon. Haven’t decided on today’s SOTD yet. Have a good day all!
That sounds so lovely!!
It was very nice even on a grey Winter’s day. I hadn’t been for years. We must go back in the other seasons – it’s not that much further than the Cotswolds, although the journey isn’t as pretty. In Autumn the Illuminations are well-known locally and very charming:

(Sorry about the inelegant URL).
Whoa!!
SOTD was Eau d’Italie “Sienne l’Hiver”.
Top: violet leaf, geranium and fern;
Mid: iris, tuber and olibanum;
Base: labdanum, guaiac wood and hay.
I usually enjoy the chilly melancholy of this scent, but today it is just shy and diffident. So I have switched early to another perfume.
SOTE is BeauFort London “1805 Tonnerre”.
Top: lime, smoke and gunpowder;
Mid: blood, brandy and sea water;
Base: amber, balsam fir and cedar.
Now that’s more like it! :^)
Beautiful!
My order of Zoologist samples arrived last night, and so this AM I’m testing Macaque. It is vacillating between interesting and weird just now. It is reminding me of some very warm place I visited, indoors, wooden construction, that was overlayed with the scent of mustiness and over-ripe fruit nearby.
Lots of “notes”!
Notes are listed as: cedar, green apple, red mandarin, frankincense, galbanum, honey, rosewood, ylang ylang, jasmine tea, cedar moss, green tea, white oud, musk…
That one was a busy one for me, too.
Mimosa Indigo today, on a cloudy day spitting rain. We actually need some rain here in Houston. I don’t really know what mimosa smells like, but I loved this enough to get a 30ml bottle. Does anyone have suggestions for a true mimosa soliflore that I could try?
Well, my arm has healed per the orthopedist, and I’m freeeeeee of the sling. Yippeekaiyay!!!
Now the work begins with physical therapy this week, and I can’t wait to get started. I know there will be pain, but with it comes range of motion. Bring it on! ????????
Glad your arm is healing well. I think Dame Perfumery has a mimosa soliflore. I don’t know what real mimosa smells like either.
Thanks, lillyjo. I forgot about the Dame soliflore. Now the question is…can I look at the Dame goodies without ordering a bunch of the new body products? I’m not sure. ????
Good more, everyone. Monday! If anyone had asked me if it was OK to start Monday, I would certainly have refused permission! I spent so long with one of my doctoral students yesterday that I never did tidy and clean the spare bedroom. The dear man uses the wardrobe in there, and I honestly don’t understand his organising system at all. He is rather resistant to help from me too— he says “Help?” with a disconcertingly sardonic inflection that makes me wonder if perhaps possibly maybe he prefers to be left alone with his muddle —but sometimes, enough is enough. ENOUGH. I must tidy the spare room. Between his “organisation” and the kittens’ activities, the place is a shameful shambles. Tonight’s task, then.
SOTD the day is Bel Respiro, so pretty and delicate I could cry. I am always in mind of Impressionist painting when I wear BR or La Pausa, no particular picture, just the style, the sense of light playing and dancing with shadow, the colour. Mind you, my clothes couldn’t be less Impressionist today: a straight black skirt and a white silk top with black squares on it. It’s possibly a little nicer than I’ve made it sound. I chose it because it flows nicely, and we’re heading for a high in the mid twenties. That’s HOT for early December. Maybe we’re going to have a long summer. The pohutkawa are already in flower, so it’s likely.
Well, I should go. I painted the nails on one hand last night, and I should balance myself up, though right now, I can’t decide whether to paint the second or remove the first. The second option is easier….be well, all.
