French niche line Jardins D’Écrivains has launched Ajar, a new fragrance named for Émile Ajar, a pseudonym used by author Romain Gary.*
Romain Gary achieved a literary subterfuge when he created Emile Ajar. Anonymity was his chance to reinvent himself, and to become manifold. Ajar is a chameleon-like fragrance that speaks of incarnation. Dark oriental Incense meets dazzling orchid. A union as ambivalent and complex as human nature itself. The light and shade within us all.
Additional notes include bergamot, pear, jasmine, sandalwood and oakmoss.
Jardins D’Écrivains Ajar is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, €85.

I’m chuffed that they chose Gary/Ajar as their inspiration. He was such an interesting person and a great writer to boot. Creating this other alias he was able to win the prestigious Prix Goncourt twice, once as Gary and once as Ajar. He disclosed the truth in his farewell letter.
It seems like I have to try this.
Then let me know about that pear!
I’m happy to help with a sample
Thanks Lucas, you are always so nice! But this one will get to the US for sure and will not be hard to find.
