Happy Lipstick Day! MAC stores are apparently handing out free lipsticks (limited supplies, though, and I slept late as usual so possibly they're already gone). It's also International Tiger Day, and Lasagne Day.
We're celebrating all of that and more with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance that matches your favorite lipstick, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Love the color pop in this picture.
Courtesy of a friend in Germany I got samples of 3 latest L’Artisan Parfumeur releases. I like all of them but Au Bord de l’Eau was an instant lemming. I wanted to buy a bottle because it’s cute but I don’t need 100 ml of eau de cologne so I will purchase a decant, maybe 20 ml.
Au Bord de l’Eau is indeed my SOTD.
How is the orange blossom one?
Oh, now realizing that might not be of the 3 latest, I’m so behind.
No, no, you’re correct – Histoire d’Orangers is among these 3. It’s a very pretty, musky neroli. Very clean and soapy, somewhere between Prada Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger and Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli. And it’s warm in a similar way to Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore. It’s very much of a skin scent, it’s sillage is small but since it’s EdP it lasts couple of hours longer than the other two which are just EdC.
Thanks Lucasai! As a neroli lover, I’ve been dying to hear an opinion of this one.
Thanks!
Happy I could help
I have one Chanel lipstick, rouge noir, that goes rather well with Coco. Most of my lipsticks are a variation of reds or plums. Today I’m wearing Commodity Mimosa, layered over EA Green Tea lotion. I’m trying to finish my travel spray before summer ends. I have one bronze lipstick that I will wear with it.
I have Rouge noir as well. I seem to get along better with Chanel’s lipsticks than with their perfumes…..
I’m not much of a lipstick person, I just can’t seem to get it to look “right” on my face for some reason. I want to learn to wear it though, I think it looks so beautiful on other people!
SotD is By Killian Apple Brandy from a sample. It’s making me want some apple pie pretty badly.
I’m right there with you, Stephanie. Some people look really great in lipstick. I am not one of them. When I look in the mirror after applying makeup, I often think – “Well, that looks weird.”
I envy people who can pull off a bold lip. I’m an eyeliner mascara and lip balm kind of girl, myself.
I have been wearing a MAC lipstick for years (when I remember to wear it at all) that is pretty much the same color of my lips. Makes life easier.
Oh-a matching lipstick is a good idea! I might have to try to find one and give that a shot. My problem tends to be I go straight for the reds, try that out, and then think I look like a nutjob.
Same. Cannot wear red.
Yah. Me neither. Especially since almost all reds instantly shift orange when I put them on. Once an SA at MAC did not believe my claim about the orange-shift til she tried applying a red on me. Sure enough, straight-up red in the tube, orangey-red on me. Shrug.
No reds for me either.
I am not a crazy lipstick or make up person either. I put on some before going to work. I might reapply just the lipstick during the morning, and then after I finish lunch. No more after that. My makeup is very light, pink shades. I never wear eyeshadows since I feel I look weird. I guess I do not know how to apply it properly. I remember wearing it just few times on especial ocassions and only if someone does the does the make up for me.
I’ve been getting better at some aspects of makeup by watching some of Lisa Eldritch’s YouTube videos, but I can’t seem to jump over the lipstick hurdle yet.
She is fun to watch, and makes it all look so easy, doesn’t she. Then I try it and fail miserably. Oh well. 🙂
I recommend your local Sephora to explore, unmolested. ???? The SAs at my local store are very helpful, and not pushy.
I will give this a shot soon.
If you’re in the US, buy up a bunch from a drugstore and play with them at home. This may not be the case everywhere, but I’ve returned all manner of used cosmetics to the local chains where I live, so you can take back what doesn’t work.
That said, I myself do buy high end lipsticks. The more expensive, the better the colors – and even intimidating brights and darks tend to be less garish. I’m not sure why this is, but I’ve really found it to be true. Givenchy Le Rouge is a great line; I also love Nars Audacious.
You can return those, too, but would have a much higher outlay. I personally don’t try makeup on in stores, for a variety of reasons.
I always think the models in those makeup ‘before and after’ magazine features look better in the ‘before’
Lipstick is probably one of the few makeup items that (I think) look good on me. I tend to bounce around with three shades: a your-lips-but-better light pinky-plum, a bright warm coral pink, and a sheer coral red. (Though for some reason I can’t do straight coral, it’s usually too orange. Which is weird because some pinks and reds look too blue against the rest of my face.) A little sheer foundation to even out the complexion, some mascara, a lippie and I’m done. I have hooded eyes and eye shadow/liner seems to just make my eyes look tiny.
Everyone looks good in lipstick. You just have to find shades that work for you.
Incidentally, my lipsticks fall into the same categories as yours. I can’t do straight coral either, in my case because it’s too pink. And I also avoid blue undertones. No can do.
If anyone is looking for amazing tutorials or just makeup info in general I stumbled upon Wayne Goss on YouTube. One weekend I was home alone and I binge watched so many videos for hours. I can now contour my face and he has great instruction on eye shadow placement. He’s definitely a guru!
Thank you! I will his vídeos for sure.
I’ve heard that putting it on at home and just wearing it there until it seems natural is a good way to get used to wearing lipstick, bright colors or not.
SOTD is my new FB of Parfumerie Generale “Indochine”.
Notes are benzoin, pepper, honey, cardamom, sandalwood and woody notes.
Very nice, but today has been quite short-lived. Hmm. I think it’s bad manners for a perfume to behave well from a sample and then misbehave when you stump up for the FB.
Today I am conducting an archaeological excavation of my bedroom, digging down through abandoned layers of books, shoes, airline boarding cards and perfume paraphernalia. For someone who makes a living out of organising everyone else, my home life really isn’t up to scratch. :^S
That is VERY bad manners. You did smell great though.
I did a shoe purge this morning. When the ‘get rid of it’ mood strikes, you simply must follow thru.
I totally agree! If I don’t seize the feeling while it’s there, I’m simply not as ruthless as I need to be with a purge.
Indochine did that on me, too. So did Cashmere (not the correct spelling but you get the drift.) Both just left the building after an hour or so. No fade-down or traces left behind. Just tooling along beautifully and suddenly poof! Gone.
What is it that you do for a living exactly, if I may ask?
Technically, ‘P3RM’, but nobody calls it that when we’re doing it. :^) Portfolio, Programme, Project and Risk Management. I tend to do Portfolio or Programme Management Office (PMO) stuff.
I own Indochine too. I usually get at least three hours from it and more if I spray on my clothes. I usually reapply around lunch time. It’s a winter scent for me. Love the honey and ginger notes.
I also really like Cadjmere and Cozy from this collection. Although I prefer Cozy In hot weather for night time.
Happily, I get a good 4 hours from Indochine. And I’m glad to know that someone else has a bedroom like mine. 😉
I decided on a quick spash of vintage Coco. Gotta beat the heat somehow!
You smell like perfection!
Vintage Coco. There’s pretty much nothing better.
I’m wearing Daim Blond. As far as lipsticks go, if left to choose by myself I always end up buying lipstick that is the exact color of my lips. So last year I let the nice lady at the Chanel counter choose two for me, and now I have definitely improved how polished I look.
It looks like I’ll get to go to Philadelphia sometime in the next few months – does anyone have any recommendations of things to do while there? (General or perfume-related.)
You smell great!
For Philadelphia, I would recommend The Fabric Workshop and Museum. Not directly perfume-related but a really neat place to visit (next door is Philadelphia Center for Architecture and Design which can also be interesting).
You smell fabulous!
I enjoy wandering around Rittenhouse Square in Center City, especially hanging out at La Colombe for coffee and Monk’s Café for moules frites and Belgian beer. Reading Terminal Market has an amazing selection of food. And the Barnes Foundation collection of art is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
Thanks for the suggestions! My mouth started watering at the mention of food and Belgian beer…
FYI, I used to rely on Chanel Rouge Coco No. 45 Charactère until it was sadly, cruelly discontinued without even the courtesy of lingering on ebay at extortionate prices.
Recently, I was happy to discover that Tom Ford No. 50 So Vain is a near duplicate. The color is a click less brown; the shimmer is less refined; the lasting power is actually better. Please remind me to stock up now before TF discontinues it!
Hey, don’t forget to stock up on Tom Ford So Vain!
Thanks, I’ve added to the to do list in my Filofax! 🙂
Happy Saturday, all! I’m currently sans-makeup and enjoying a lazy morning at home, but I’ll have to put some lipstick on for the holiday before I head out! No great burden – I love me some lipstick. 🙂
Testing Dame Perfumery Monsoon today and I really, REALLY like it, but it strikes me as being very unsafe for a blind buy. I love Dark Horse and Earth Mother, and this is nothing like them, nor was the smell really predictable from the notes list (at least to me). It’s simultaneously reminding me of different aspects of Musc 25 and Sel de Vetiver (sort of dirty-harsh-ozonic-salty-floral-earthy, but certainly not a dupe for either). I do want to try it on skin first (just on fabric now – skin is angry today, lol), but this is already on my very short list of full bottles I’m considering buying this year (along with Ari’s perfume, which I’m totally obsessed with).
It also fits quite nicely with the grey, cool, hazy weather we’re having in coastal Connecticut!
I haven’t tried nearly as many perfumes this year as in past years, but I’m having good luck with those I have, and I’m delighted by how many have been really interesting.
Hope others are having a great weekend!
I liked Monsoon too. Need to re-try my sample to decide if it goes on the buy list or not…
I’d heard such differing reviews on it, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but it’s happily a hit…and I don’t think I have another perfume like it. Hoping my on-skin test goes well, because I’ve loved it wafting up from my shirt today!
House twins! I have sampled all Dames except for the last three releases. Monsoon sounds interesting. How do you find Earth Mother? Have you tried Sky Father as well?
CM8, if you don’t have a sample of Monsoon, I’d be glad to send you the July 4th freebie I have on hand. It’s a 3ml spray, so plenty enough to try out.
I’m at nlmcook aaaaat sbcglobal dawt nettt. 🙂
Oh Nancy thank you! that is so sweet but my best friend is sending me that one as soon as she gets another sample package together for me…please save it for someone else who really wants to try it immediately 🙂 Did it not work for you?
It worked okay for me, I like it a lot, but not sure it’s love. Just wanted to pass it on to someone who might fall in love with it. 🙂
Ummm, I may have asked you about it before, if so, I’m sorry for the repeat!
I LOVE Earth Mother. I received it in an Olfactif sampler and must have accidentally hit one of my reusable grocery bags when spritzing them onto little paper strips to pre-test them. A few days later, I went grocery shopping, and was like, “What smells amazing??? I must figure out what perfume this is!” I had no idea what it was and had to gather all the random samples that were sitting around and test them all to find out. 🙂 And then couldn’t stop wearing it for a couple of weeks.
It seems to me to be more pleasing-to-non-perfume-people than Monsoon, but it’s still interesting and very well done. I have problems with musks that are laundry-like, and Earth Mother’s musk smells more like a sweetened version of the musk base used in Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely to me (vs laundry powder), but with patchouli and galbanum. It’s very well-blended, though, so the various notes don’t really call attention to themselves. So, pleasant and sweet, but earthy?
I also tried Sky Father, and I like it a lot, too. I haven’t spent as much time with it as Earth Mother, though, and I keep thinking I need to. It reminds me a little of citronella, oddly, but with enough wood and spice going on that it’s not like a bug candle. 🙂 Definitely worth a sample!
I love Earth Mother too. I’m looking forward to wearing it in the fall.
Agreed! 🙂 It will be great in the fall.
Free lipstick? Daaang, now if Bite Beauty or Marc Jacobs was handing out freebies, I’d be the first in line. I returned the only MAC lipstick I ever bought as it dried my lips out.
SOTD = Omnia, the late, the great, the discontinued.
LOTD = Marc Jacobs lipgloss in Kissability, also sadly discontinued.
My lips but just a bit better, brighter, with subtle shimmer.
Omnia, I should wear that soon! My mother wanted a Bulgari fragrance (because her friend wears it!), I gave her my bottle of Omnia and she returned it back to me. I wasn’t terribly disappointed.
Ha! I wouldn’t be disappointed either. That was very nice of you to let her have a try!
I just saw Bite lipstick at Marshalls the other day for 6 dollars.
That’s a fabulous price. I hope you were able to find a good color. 🙂
I love Marc Jacobs lipsticks. MAC is dry but I can wear it over lip balm.
Aren’t the MJ lipsticks great? They are so hydrating.
I recently discovered the Marc Jacobs lipgloss in the colour Forbidden Fruit. In the tube it’s an intense orange, but wears sheer. Looks great over a sharpened lip liner, and I would wear it with Pulp, or Arielle Shoshana if I owned them.
Haven’t tried the gloss yet, but I like Marc Jacobs lip liners.
I would really like to wear lipstick but my lips are so dry that I cannot really do it; any advice would be appreciated!
Still testing Tom Ford Vert de Fleur (to my nose, it opens very classical green, then hyacinth, jasmine, iris with that TF presence). This is one of the best newish fragrances that I have tried recently. Luckily, it has something similar going on with J Crew Longshoreman Cologne (maybe a masculine iris?) which I own and altogether prefer.
If you can tolerate lanolin, Lanolips orig 101 ointment is really good. So is Aquaphor!
Seconding Lanolips 101 for those who aren’t allergic. It is amazing for chapped lips, and also for minor scratches, eczema, etc. A little goes a long way!
Thank you, Meg O. I shall soon have my Lanolips 101!
Thank you, Laura; I ordered Lanolips 101! I like lanolin and so it was easy to follow your suggestion.
I haven’t tried Vert de Fleur, but it’s going on my list now! It sounds very pretty, and I love a good classic green.
My lips are really dry too, I recommend sticking to cream and satin finishes instead of matte. Dior makes really hydrating lipsticks (for me at least) and I find they’re an acceptable substitute for lipbalm most of the time. For exceptionally hydrating lipstick, YSL’s Rouge Volupté line is fabulous and smells fruity!
Ditto YSL Rouge Volupte. So hydrating, although $$$. But worth it, imo. When i get through the one i currently own i plan to repurchase 🙂
I have few YSL lip pies. They smell great and the packing is very nice.
2nd the advice on creams & satins. That said, I have dry lips as well but primarily wear mattes. I apply lip balm throughout the day, either under or over lipstick. Some lipstick formulations are more drying/hydrating, even within the same brand.
kpain, yes, I should be more dedicated in applying lip balm (once a day, as I currently do it, isn’t enough …). It is also interesting that you suggest applying over lipstick; I have to try that technique as well.
Thank you, hemabelle, nebbe and Petunia! I have a plan to get to the mall soon and find a color that suits me well in YSL’s Rouge Volupté line!
I would recommend trying lipstick again as formulas have changed, and some lines are much creamier than others. Reviews on The Non Blonde and other sites often note whether the lipstick is drying or moisturizing. Of course, glosses are generally moist.
For dry lips, I especially like Dr. Hauschka’s Lip Care Stick.
Thanks, nozknoz. I think my local Whole Foods sells Dr. Haushka’s so it should be easy to check the lip balm there. And maybe when I get more into wearing lipstick, I’ll be able to read those reviews (at this point, it is overwhelming as I know nothing about the domain).
You might try the Jack Black lip balms in the tubes. I use the shea butter one every night. Bonus is that a tube lasts forever.
I just purchased Bite Beauty agave lip balm in the tube. It’s a stick, not the squeeze tube. I’ve been enjoying that one a lot, and I think it would be good under lipstick.
Thanks, Nancyleandros! I am writing down all the suggestions, and if those suggested above are not working for me, Jack Black and Bite Beauty will be next!
Vaseline Lip Therapy in Cocoa Butter in a small tub. I keep this on my bathroom counter and wash hands before applying with my pinkie. As an aside, I once saw a cashier at Sears applying it with her finger between customers – Eeewwww.
Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment with SPF 25 Untinted (with Coconut Oil and Lemon Butter). Very hydrating. It comes in a few reddish / pinkish sheer shades but I did not bother with them.
Kiehl’s (lip treatment + color!) sounds very interesting; thanks!
Isn’t it a happy coincidence when you get a similar feel from something you already own? I did like the Vert line a lot (just sniffed in-store), and would like to get samples and spend time with a couple of them, but it’s gotta be full-on obsession for me at the Tom Ford Private line prices to consider a full bottle. I’ve been going back and forth on Cafe Rose for years now.
Some very good deals on eBay!
I’ve found that certain oils, like peppermint, wreak havoc on my lips and perpetuate a vicious cycle of dryness. Aquaphor at night and Burt’s Bees in pomegranate during the day work wonders.
Yes, it would be most useful to first figure out what is not working for me. I finished using Rodin lip balm just because it smelled and looked so good (but it was, at best, not hydrating my lips …)
SotD = Arielle Shoshana EdP
Feeling better after bike, hike, shower, and fragrant spritzing. Exercise is a good antidote for the blahs. Now it’s time to tackle the Saturday to-do list.
Yay for lipstick day, a reminder that I should invest in some good choices I will actually want to use. I’m no-frills lately and use eos vanilla bean lip balm every day. No color but the smell is a nice vanilla that stays far away from cupcake.
Wow, you’ve done more than me today. Plus you smell great.
Thanks, Robin! Ari EdP smells so good.
The Fresh Sugar tinted lip balms are great, they have lots of colours, I load up on them at Sephora.
Oh, thank you, I just peeked at them online. I will look for Fresh Sugar lip balms next time I’m visiting Sephora for some perfume sniffing. 🙂
I’m not much of a lipstick person (or a make-up person in general), but I’m at a wedding right now (currently at the West Point chapel waiting for the wedding party, actually), so I’m wearing some lipstick. My last tube was a lovely red Chanel my mother gave me when she got bored of it. I spend less money on make-up than she does, so when I finished the Chanel, I got a very reasonably priced red-pink Kiko tube that smells slightly of vanilla ice cream. It’s one of the “fancy” Kikos, so the tube has nice weight and a magnetic click, and the color lasts for a long time. On top is a thin layer of lip balm to add a touch of shine and moisture.
SOTD is LADDM, which has even bigger sillage in the humid northeast than in my typically dry Silicon Valley.
How was the wedding?
Oh, it was just lovely. I’m not big on the military, but West Point is so gorgeous, and I really enjoyed the pomp and circumstance of a West Point Chapel wedding, including a saber arch that the bride and groom had to walk through to exit the chapel. On the other hand, the bride was suffering from the after effects of food poisoning all weekend, so I’m sure it was exhausting for her. She pulled it off like a champ, though.
Happy Lipstick Day to my wonderful smelling NST friends! I celebrated by partaking in the fabulous Anatasia BH website deal. ???? My perfume problem is only surpassed by my lippie obsession. I have to have something on my lips 24/7 ( balm, gloss, lipstick, all good.) I’m a bit ocd about it.
Sotm: O de Lancôme
Lotm: Nivea lip balm (round tin!)
Sote: probs Superstitious
Lote: LQ Scarlet Sinner or GA Lip Maestro #402
Excited for margs & enchiladas tonight. ???? Have a great weekend people!
I have stuff on my lips 24/7 as well. I have very low tolerance for an unmoisturized lip.
I love that Nivea lip balm but I wish there was a stick or tube version of it. Yay for margs and enchiladas!!!!
They sell a stick version but it’s not as thick or long lasting as the stuff in the tin. ????
Laura, how do you like Superstitious? I’ve only smelled it on paper and it was quite soapy with a touch of animal.
I love it! The initial “skank” doesn’t bother me. The skank part is reminiscent of my older version of Femme. I get a lot of jasmine & rose, no powder. If you ever tried and liked the original versions of Knowing or Montana, I think you’d like Superstitious. Would you like me to send you some? laugsb @ sbcglobal dot net
Hmmm enchiladas! 🙂
They were yummy????
Wow, free lipstick? Not that I need anymore.. if I looked at most of my lipsticks, they are mostly nudes or the color of my lips but better. I really like Tarte Lipsurgence (matte finish) and Fresh Sugar (a tinted treatment). These feel more moisturizing; I seem to reach for these the most.
No SOTD yet, we just got back from picking cherries at the local orchard. The owner said there were 2 bears sitting in the trees yesterday gorging themselves.
Count me as another big fan of Fresh Sugar. I love that they have sunscreen in them, as I’m outside a lot walking dogs.
Fresh Sugar Rosé was my go-to walking/outdoor exercise hippie for years until I discovered a beeswax allergy. I also loovveedd their intense lip treatment (in the white tube.)
I have never gotten the hang of lipsticks. Whenever I put on an assertive color I feel like I’m walking around with big clown lips. I do want to thank whoever recommended Fresh Sugar lip treatments on some past SOTD… now those I can handle. They’re more or less tinted chapstick, meaning I can apply even without a mirror. Perfect for those of us with limited makeup skills.
Been running around frantically this morning, trying to get stuff done before it gets too dang hot. Still need to go pot some plants I bought this week.
I was awakened this morning by the Steller’s jay family that’s hanging around our house, making a racket; and our cats at the windows, acking at the birdies. The jays are demanding water in the bird bath, and food in the feeders. The poor parents are being mobbed by their 4 (full-size) young’uns who are perpetually begging for food. Feed me, ma, feed me!
Testing Papillon Dryad this morning, thanks to clarissa. I suspect I will decide that I admire this scent, but can’t wear it. Feels like I should be wearing a structured dress and heels, handbag stylishly dangling from my wrist, pearls (and lipstick) just so. Not the shorts, T-shirt, no makeup, and bare feet that is my actual get-up.
Oh thats funny…I get a way more laid back feel with Dryad. For me this scent goes easily with jeans and a relaxed sweater/jumper (sorry dunno what the right english word is haha).
Though I agree, it could use a bit upscale from nice earrings, stylish boots OR a good watch.
Ha! I bet you like Chanel No 19 too. That gives me the same feel as Dryad. I keep edging around No 19 warily, but still have not yet made friends with her.
Actually I like Dryad more than No19!
No 19 is just like a Picasso to me. I appreciate the innovative character and importance and that it is well made, but I dont know if i would hang it in my living room. (i.e. I dont wear no 19 that often, have a small mini I only used twice).
My cats don’t get to “ack” a lot at potential prey, since they are mainly indoors (they do have a door to the outside, which leads to a large enclosed space to hang out), but sometimes my cat Otto and I ack at each other, just for fun. It’s trippy. He’s an incredibly talkative cat. We often meow at each other from different rooms in the house, as well. No doubt about it, I am a dyed-in-the-wool crazy cat lady.
My cats are indoor kitties, so they just get to ‘ack the birdies’ thru the window. Well to tell the truth, Kooky acks, Cole is oblivious (Cole is not the rugged outdoorsman. Nope. Completely domesticated. As I type this, he is lying on his back, asleep, four paws in the air, in front of the air conditioning vent.)
I used to have long conversations with a previous cat, Espresso. She was particularly vocal when told “no”. We’d get a long string of cat-complaints and cat-swearing as she stomped away, ears laid back, indignantly flipping her tail. I miss her attitude 🙂
“No? Whaddaya mean, no? Do you know who I AM?”
There’s nothing quite like a cat for the unmistakable signaling of displeasure.
I have a dog that flattens her ears, slits her eyes and stomps her feet when I tell her no. It’s so cute.
Ah lipstick. Well thats a concidence. Just finished my make up. Dressed op for a small informal party.
Black jeans, lace top in dark blue by Paul&Joe Sister, dark blue MAC eyeliner AND a Tom Ford Lips&Boys lipstick (Mitchell, a colour thats slightly darker than my natural lip colour). Those lipsticks are awefully expensive but I recommend them highly. They wear so smooth and colours are great.
Oh and SotE is Jasmin Rouge, by Tom Ford.
I own too many red/dark red lipsticks. Mostly from Chanel, Urban Decay. So I am on a no-buy at the moment.
Sometimes i go weeks without, and sometimes I wear eveb lipstick when I go grocery shopping. Haha.
Have a great weekend everybody!!!
It’s fitting that you found a cat avatar with red lips! 🙂
Haha, actually (its hard to see), its the inside of his erhm mouth. If you look closely you can see a pair of teeth. He is laughing at all of us 🙂
…. Yes, Jiji is a ‘he’ (although I am a ‘she’ haha). He is the cat from “Kiki’s delivery service”. One of my favourite animated movies!
After zooming in, I can see the teeth and whiskers. Adorable!
You look and smell great! Enjoy the party!
I am way too lazy for the make up /lipstick thing…although when I was in my 20s and worked in the city it was full on makeup every single day! Nowadays it is nothing but lip balm, occasional mascara and lipgloss and blush when I have an important meeting.
SOTD- Dame Perfumery Bergamot, Jasmine& Labdanum…working my way through a full bottle…I really like this one so I might just skip the community project and stay with it all week…..it really is quite lovely.
Tiger day! and lipstick! Love both. But also, and better, it’s Titus Day! This afternoon, at 2 o’clock, we pick up the most elegant, arrogant kitten in the history of ever, and start the process of introducing Dakkie to him. Titus’s outfit is stunning. Think satin painted onto a slender, muscled frame. Put the body on long slim legs. Picture a golden background and classic tabby markings in dark chocolate. Add a long nose (for staring down) and huge ears that flare out so that the tips make an equilateral triangle with the end of the nose. Place this aristocratic little head on a long neck, and balance all this with a long whippy tail. Then add ATTITUDE in bagfuls. In piles. That’s Titus. We love him already fir his own little being, but we have hopes…we want Dakkie to have an alpha who organises his life and gives him causes. We want him un-lost again. Also, let it be whispered, we wouldn’t mind some sleep that is not broken by Dakkie’s sad yodels. We hope Titus is the key.
I’m wearing Dries van Noten because it’s happy and hopeful and gorgeous and warm, and today is about as cold as it ever gets in Auckland. I love this perfume so much that I’ve asked a colleague to get me a bottle in London when he’s there.
Oh, I also have a tabby named Titus, and thus highly approve of your newest addition. Named our guy after Titus Pullo from the HBO series Rome. He’s a light gray tabby that I raised from the age where I had to feed him with a syringe. Here’s hoping that your Titus gets Dakkie in line!
Titus of Helensville! He’s one lucky kitten.
Many cats are happier living in twos or threes. You’re doing a fine and wonderful thing for Dakkie and Titus. May your sleep soon be yodel-free.
My cat hates any other cat that dares to enter his yard and I’ve made several trips to the vet as a result. Of course he was a stray and hunted for his daily bread before he adopted us.
Oh yes, there will always be those lone wolf kitties who stake their claim and defend it tooth and claw. I grew up with a grey striped cat who looked like a little tiger. He chased away all interlopers, dogs and cats alike. The vet bills for stitching him up were awful for my parents, but we loved that cat so much. We tried to keep him indoors but then he would try to kill the furniture and attack our feet. Since he was gray and fluffy as a kitten we called him Puff, which really did not fit his adult personality at all.
Ha! Sounds like Puff was a great cat and his personality reminds me somewhat of my cat. Unfortunately, He still goes out during the day. He is absolutely miserable and relentless about letting us know about it on the rare occasions that he has to stay in the house. We have acreage and woods so I worry more about foxes and coyotes than other cats.
Titus, also name of a Roman emperor, sounds like he is worthy of an emperors name. 🙂
New kitten, oh yay! Here’s hoping he whips Dakkie into shape in no time.
Good luck with Titus. I hope he is just what Dakkie needs.
I need iris advice! So, after a walk over light snow dusting over mud I decided I really wanted to try some iris perfumes. I read all Robin’s posts on 5 Best, made a list of any I thought I might find in town and turns out there is not a one…no Prada Infusions, no Van Cleef and Arpels …. And, of course no Serge Lutens, Hermes …etc etc. i have a tester of La Pausa which I love. So, it’s off to blind buy land. I don’t want to spend $40 on shipping a 2ml or 10ml sample so i am deciding between the Prada ( but original infusion or absolu?) or trying to hunt dowm Iris Silver Mist. I really like a good root! Earth smells are good. I don’t like perfumes like Chanel 19… Too powdery. Maybe I save up for La Pausa? But I’m a bit too fickle for that.
Tried Lush Sleepy…very nice.
Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks – last all day and highly pigmented. Her nudes are just a right blend of beige and pink
I’ve got Van Cleef & Arpel’s Bois D’Iris. Not footy, but dry woody. Very nice. I’m making a decant to send you. Also Donna Karen’s Iris Essence, part of the series she did after Black Cashmere. Sweeter, but I like it. Ditto. And since I’m sending, I shall box up Foxbin’s lake, nay, sea, of samples to send with them. I was going to save them up until you’re in Auckland next, but I think your need for perfumes to play with is just exactly now.
Not footy (rugby, forsooth!) but footy, of course.
What! Can I never write “rooty”, even when I try?
Don’t send as I will be in Auckland during the first week of September. We can get your Sycomore????
Dammit! I’m going to visit my sister in Sth Australia for the first week of September!
I am a bit of an iris freak myself. I have the Prada Absolue (and love it). I also blind bought ISM (was pretty sure I’d love it too, and I do). ISM is rooty and amazing; no regrets. You can’t go wrong with either.
I purchased ISM from The Perfume Shoppe online (based in Vancouver). I believe they do ship internationally.
Ahhhh…guess what? Just ordered ISM in two cool 30ml travel bottles from the Perfume Shoppe. Thank you!
You’re so welcome!
If it was from Canada, then it was probably the last one in the shop. I was there 2 weeks ago!
Just had an apology email to say it’s not in stock at the moment…Good on them for letting me know.
It’s been discontinued in that format, so they most likely won’t get any more. Perhaps Luckyscent?
Personally, if I could only have one iris, it would be SL Iris Silver Mist. If you can imagine 28 la Pausa (which I do like) without most of the white musk and citrus, hence drier, austere, that’s ISM. (Also stronger and longer lasting than La Pausa.)
Caveat: I’m in the minority in that I don’t even like the Prada most of the time; it doesn’t smell natural to me. It’s possible I’m hyperosmic to the musk or something, I suppose. I can only wear it on a super hot, humid day when I can only bear something boring.
Tough decision — good luck!
Thanks for the information Nozknoz. In general I really like Serge Lutens so have ordered ISM. Well, that’s my day organised….now for breakfast.
That is a great way to start your day!
I was just going to recommend the Lutens! It’s by far the rootiest. You might also like the Aedes de Venustas Iris (I keep forgetting its name)
Iris Nazarena! I love that one. 🙂
I see that you have already availed yourself of ISM and you already like 28 La Pausa. If you are looking for others, besides those already mentioned above, I recommend: Chanel No. 19 EDP, Barcelona D600, Dior Nomme, Le Galion Iris, Ramon Monegal Impossible Iris, Atelier Cologne Silver Iris, FM Iris Poudre, Terry de Gunzburg Ombré Mercure, Le Labo Iris 39 and Papillon Angelique. I’m probably forgetting something.
Thank you – genius list. The ISM has proved elusive (they wrote to say it’s out of stock)
Oh, and somehow, “Carner” dropped off from Carner Barcelona and it should be Dior Homme…stupid fat fingers!
Yikes! I broke down and ordered the travel spray from Luckyscent a couple of months ago when I heard it was being discontinued (in that form). They still have the bell jars at Barney’s New York, but they’re over $300. I’ve seen them on ebay for less but the shipping is high. It’s a shame they never did it in the export bottle.
Equistrius is also a good Iris scent and very different from the others you mentioned.
Thanks Petunia
Armani Prive is available in Aus at David Jones- not sure if you have an equivalent? Anyway, their Pierre de Lune is a rooty iris but not as crisp as Hiris or Yardley Iris (discontinued but can still be found), rather a dusty dirty smell. Yum 🙂
Bvlgari also have a new iris! I tried it in Myer last week so it should still be on shelves for testing. (Splendida Iris d’Or). It’s in the same bottle as the jasmine/femme range. Has a pleasant irisy opening and merges into a Bvlgari Femme drydown.
Another iris lover here! 🙂 Seconding the Iris Nazarena suggestion, just because it feels so different to me than many of the other irises (it’s warmer feeling…and it’s gorgeous). I also like Feu Secret (the newest Bruno Fazzolari) – there’s a similar warm, smoky iris thing going on like with the Iris Nazarena, but an easier price point if you love it, and just a hint of sweetness? Finally, La Fin Du Monde (the ELDO one) is fun to try – it’s a sweet, buttery iris, but not particularly rooty. None of these are ISM, and I think the Iris Nazarena is the rootiest of the three, but I kind of want all the irises, cuz I’m greedy like that. 😉
Seconding all of these suggestions! I tried Feu Secret a few weekends ago and it was amazingly smoky. Would add Tauer Lonesome Rider to the list, too!
Wearing Zeta for a quiet day at home. My favorite everyday lippies are Fresh Sugar, in Tulip and Berry. I also like Lipstick Queen Medieval, an easy casual red, just a step up from cherry chapstick. For dressing up, I like Besame American Beauty, the perfect red for me.
The color Stoked in the Endless Summer collection of Lipstick Queen I used to wear all the time. Really perfect coral and loved the texture.
I’ve read great things about Besame lipstick. It’s on my try list!
Also, I’m a huge LQ fan! Have you tried Frog Prince or Hello Sailor? Both fun ph reactive lip sticks (balms really.)
SOTD is Eau de Protection.
Lipstick Day, huh? Of course, it ended up being one day out of the week where I’m not wearing it. 🙂 I actually am not wild about the idea of lipstick, but I’ve gravitated towards bold, dark red lip colors since my early 20’s. It’s mostly been born out of necessity; I have deep-set eyes so unless I wear eye shadow all the way up to my brows, it’s hard to even tell I’m wearing eye makeup, so I go for a bold lip to balance it out. Plus, well…I’m a fair-skinned, autumn-y redhead, and a dark cranberry red lip just looks so damn good on me. :]
I bet you look great in a cranberry red!
You smell lovely.
SotD is Noir de Noir. Yay lipstick! I have too many to count of all shades. I do love a good red lippy but obviously not every day. I’m pretty girly though, so makeup is my thing for sure. Wish I had time to go get me a free one from MAC. Some of my favorites are Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford but I’m happy with a Revlon or Cover Girl as well!
Happy National Lipstick Day! How fun!
Wearing Coco Rouge in a bright pink and Balmain Ivoire and feeling good about it 🙂
Ivoire is great. You smell lovely.
Am on Kauai (read: “in heaven”) again.
After last year’s lovely vacation here, my husband mentioned to a friend from National Cattlemen’s Beef Board who works on the Big Island of Hawaii that if a job ever opened up on Kauai, to let him know ASAP. And that happened. He applied in February, did a Skype interview in March, heard nothing until June, and then got called back to do an in-person second interview. That’s why we’re here. Talked to a couple of real estate agents recently about the possibility of buying, in case he does get the job: it would be tough without pulling a bunch of money out of investments and getting socked with capital gains tax, but we think we miiiiiight juuuuust maybe do it. (We wouldn’t sell the house on the farm, obvs, and we’re not sure if our youngest, who’s 16, would come with us or finish out his last two years of high school living with his grandmother.)
Spent yesterday afternoon with a perfume friend, who made me a decant of Arquiste Flor y Canto (perfect here, btw), and gave me a sample of Amouage Bracken Woman (surprisingly short-lived on me). I gave her a sample of Arielle Shoshana, which she liked very much.
This made me really curious about cattle on Hawaii…..sorry….and it seems there is a large population of Hawaiin feral cattle and that the botanist David Douglas ( Douglas Fir) was trampled to death by a bullock on Hawaii. Learn something new every day!
Hope the interview goes well … And your trip is fun.
That’s really interesting about Douglas… I think it’s the Big Island (Hawai’i) that has the feral cattle. Kauai has a relatively small cattle population, small herds, just a few cattle farmers. (There are feral pigs here.) The big challenges are that 1) the sugar plantations have shut down — production and shipping costs are much higher here than they are in South America — and there has not been an agricultural industry to replace sugar, and that 2) non-agricultural development pressure, particularly from the tourism industry, threatens the loss of agricultural land here.
I hope that it works out. Sounds like an adventure.
Good luck! The best for you both!
Oh, that sounds like a fun new adventure for you and your husband!
Wow how exciting! Good luck to your husband!
Wow! I hope everything works out for you! How exciting 😀
Exciting! I hope it all works out 🙂
Oh wow, this sounds so exciting. Good luck!
How exciting! Maybe rent at first? Get to know the place before deciding where to put down roots? I suspect that in Hawaii you might get a better price (to buy) if people know you, rather than them seeing you as just a haole mainlander.
Wow, exciting!
Wow! Exciting!
How fantastic! Enjoy your trip.
What an exciting possibility! We fantasized about what it would be like to live there.
Good luck!
How exciting! Fingers crossed for you both!
I bought a bottle of Nicolaï’s Le Temps d’une Fête at a Nicolaï boutique in Paris today! I know it’s been discontinued for a long time and I’m surprised to see they still have a couple of bottles, and on sale!
Such a gorgeous green floral…
Oh, I love love LTdF.
Nice buy! Been thinking about Paris this week.. I miss it so.
Those shops are wonderful for picking up bargains! Congrats on your bottle.
Nice score!! I adore that one.
Just back from a work/vacation trip to Denver & Boulder, and had not been for 20 years or so — lots has changed. Downtown Denver is fun and just an incredible landscape wherever you look in CO. Nice break from the concrete jungle.
Unfortunately a decant of a blue agave scent from Anthropologie I was traveling with leaked out in my bag which not only ruined the bag but caused nausea throughout the trip – the leather and the notes in the scent were just too much. I made it through the trip but can’t go near that scent anymore. So glad it wasn’t one of my favorite scents.
I dug up an older Chanel pink lipstick I’ve been wearing this summer. I go back and forth between a sheer nude by Fresh and pops of color mainly in the pink/coral family.
SOTD: Rose Rebelle Respawn
I have never been to Colorado other than plenty of stopovers in Denver on the way to San Francisco. If I ever go to Colorado, I will need to try to make it to Golden, where my dad attended and graduated from Colorado School of Mines.
Didn’t know there was such a school! If you’re an outdoors person it’s definitely worth visiting. Aspen & Vail are beautiful too, and snow activities in the colder months abound.
I’m a bunny slope drop-out so Vail and Aspen in winter would be a waste on me. That said, if the Newark Museum ever arranges a trip to Aspen for the Summer Music Festival, I will be there in a heartbeat.
The CO landscape is beautiful. It’s all sky and mountains. Love the drives there.
Last night my husband walked into the bedroom just after I’d sprayed Gourmand Coquin and said, “I don’t know what kind of perfume game you’re playing in here, but THAT smells delightful.” *sigh* Maybe a bottle shall be mine someday… (He was trying to be funny, btw. But if he likes it, too, perhaps for an xmas gift? That way I don’t have to be *as* appalled by the price…?)
Am on vacation through Monday. I brought samples of some things I’d recently bought, some I bought a while back to wear in summer, and others I’d been holding onto to wear in warm weather. Thus far: SHL Taklamakan, Tauer ACdD, Hermes EdM, Berdoues Assam, Vanilla Hinoki (my neice loved this one,) Coromandel edp (her aunt did not love this one 🙁 ) Today I went out in Heeley Sel Marin but threw my jacket and scarf on and was getting wafts of EdM and Coromandel from my clothes so didn’t get a good take on it. It’s all gone now and I think I’ll spray some VCA Moonlight Patchouli.
Wore NARS Audacious in Catherine on my outing, which was still in my bag from last night. If you like orange shades, that line has some nice ones.
Have also worn Shalimar Eau Legere, Carnal Flower, Etro Shaal Nur, and VCA Orchidee Vanille.
Wow, so envious of your travel collection! I recently bought Moonlight Patchouli ????
It sounds like you need a bottle of Gourmand Coquin :-). You may want to do a brick & mortar store vs Shopfranceinc price check.
I just like the idea that he sees you as playing perfume games 🙂
Ha! Yes, I thought that was super cute ????
Perfume game? So cute!
I’m wearing Box of Eels parfum on this lazy Saturday. Insofar as lipstick is concerned, I buy them but don’t wear them. I’m at an age where vertical lip wrinkles make the color crawl unless I do a very thorough job lining beforehand, and that’s just too much work unless it’s a special occasion. I do wear tinted lip balm in ski season since it’s thicker and doesn’t migrate so much. Since I have lash extensions a bold lip plus the lashes makes me resemble Betty Boop. I try to avoid that.
I also have the buy-but-don’t-wear lipstick problem. My reason is that balm is so much easier and also because I’m chasing a colour/texture that I’ve never been able to find. One day I’ll find “the One”!
What are lash extensions? Are they permanent?
I had extensions and loved them! Developed a sensitivity to the glue (had a horrible reaction) and had to give them up. Such a bummer????
Ah!!! lash extensions=false eyelashes !!!
Well, kind of. For lash extensions you have to go to a salon and have pieces glued on individually to each lash. My daughter had them for her wedding, and my niece gets them done regularly. They really are pretty amazing-looking.
Thanks for clearing that up! Sounds a bit too complicated for me -LOL! but I am sure they must look amazing!
I somehow managed to wear neither lipstick nor perfume today. Actually, in spite of owning an appalling amount of lipstick I hardly ever wear it. I do keep a tube of Revlon Kiss Me Coral and a tube of UD Gash in my purse.
I’m planning on a second testing of Dryad this evening. It was very nice the first time I tried it but I was working and let my attention wander a bit.
I liked Dryad from my one skin test when I was in Vancouver. I recall it being spicy smoky. I think I will buy a FB and split it. My dilemma is should I buy from where I first tried it or buy it from where I know I will likely get a 20% discount?
I go for the discount.
Second that.
Third that.
20% off plus CAD? Of course!
SOTD = CdG Red Carnation
So good but so short-lived. Today, I wore 3 spritzes from my FB and it lasted 2 hours.
Lipsticks! I’m in the camp of I buy them but don’t use them. I have a lot of tubes that come with GWP packs and I end up giving them away in batches or include them as freebies in my swap packages.
In other news, literally 🙂
Three Square Market, a Wisconsin-based tech company, will begin microchipping the 50 out of 80 employee-volunteers on August 1st! It will allow the employees to enter the building, log on to their computer and pay for snacks at the vending machine. The company claims that the chips will not serve as a GPS device and the possibility of it being hacked into is zero to nil. I wonder how many of the 50 employees felt peer (or even managerial) pressure to volunteer; after all, this is a tech company and it is hoping to be a trendsetter. The CEO was interviewed on FoxNews and when asked what happens if an employee leaves the company, he said that the chip does not get removed. Eh? The attached article mentioned that it could be removed and it would feel like removing a splinter. It’s a mighty big splinter, folks! Personally, I think they are guinea pigs. As for me, I have a fashionable lanyard that holds my employee ID and a credit card…and logging into the network in the office – what’s the rush?
http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/wisconsin-company-three-square-market-offers-install-microchips-employees-n786266
Yes, thank you for the Pacifica lipstick that you sent to me. ???? I really like carnation scents so will try to get a sample of RC soon. The thought of being microchipped by an employer is horrifying to me. Yikes!
I will send you a sample in September if you can wait that long. I tend not to mail perfumes in the summer.
Of course I can wait! You are THE BEST! Thank you!
That was on the news the other day here – personally I find it unsettling and somewhat repellent.
So do I.
I have nothing but contempt for the company.
Ha! My colleagues were talking about that the other day at work! If they start offering that where I work, I will NOT be volunteering.????
My colleagues were disturbed as well!
Oh wow, chipping employees that’s so unsettling. 🙁
I really dont see the advantages at all and no reason why this should be the future. And smartphones have chips and NFC too, so these offer sufficient possibilities for paying/checking in and opening doors.
I certainly would not volunteer!
They’re going to monetize it. I wouldn’t volunteer either!
Not to freak you out, but Revelation 13:16-17 ????
Yep, first thing I thought of.
Me too! Personally, I’d rather go without.
Not freaked out…sign of the time! I wonder when the company will begin requiring instead of asking for volunteers. I bet they’ll get slapped with a lawsuit when that happens.
I sure hope so.
I think Id leave. I assume one day we’ll have one with all our social security data but until then no way and certainly not for something like vending machines and entries! ????
I have a lot of lipstick but usually end up wearing the same colors. Deep pink tones flatter my complexion but nudes and brown tones, not so much. I often wore red lipstick in my twenties but not so much now. I live and work in a rural area so It just feels out of place.
My husband installed a new front door on our house recently so I wore Rahele while repainting our foyer area today. Another chore finished.
I did not finish nearly as many chores as I hoped this weekend. Congrats on finishing your door.
Thanks Robin. It was long overdue as my husband is a contractor. ????
In a fit of “why not” this morning I sprayed all four of the Brückner Aouds on various parts of my body. It smelled great as they are all made with the same base.
I have a lot of lipstick I don’t wear. I’ve been thinking about just throwing them out actually. Most days I wear Fresh Sugar tinted lip balms, or a Marc Jacobs lip colour if I’m feeling fancy.
I wear lipstick only occasionally and my most recent go to has been Bobbi Brown Blue Raspberry. It’s really creamy.
Today’s SOTD was OJ Osmanthus as I continue to make my way through the samples. Also lovely, but the most fleeting of those I have tried so far.
Has there ever been a Friday community project to wear your favorite Geza Schoen fragrance?
Corn on the cob from the farmer’s market for dinner. The kind that explodes in your mouth when you take a bite.
Food twins with the corn on the cob from our local farm stand along with lots of other veggies and fruits…yummmm…..
OK, so Titus has come home, and Dakkie is DEEPLY affronted. He sat up, examined the kitten with an expression of profound professional rivalry, and went and sulked among the dear man’s winter shirts. Some words have been exchanged, but no real hostilities thus far. Ummm….confession. Is there a feline equivalent of Donatella? We came home with Titus and Sinister (because the breeder has marked his left ear to distinguish him from Titus), re-named Alexander. I couldn’t bear to separate them. Titus leads; Alexander follows. Alexander meows; Titus finds him and beats him up a little. Titus has climbed the curtains, the book case and into Dakkie’s hut; Alexander sits on the ground and worries about him. They need each other. Dakkie needs both. He will adjust.
Perfume for tomorrow: Cristalle, for what will be a cold, crisp day. It’s a joyous thing to wear in hot weather; in cold weather, it’s incisively elegant and gorgeous, cutting through the chill with an edge even iview than winter can provide. If you’re surprised that I’m already planning my perfume, let me add that I’ve put out my clothes too. I suspect that I will need to be super-organised every night , what with Dakkie to love and reassure and two small terrors to feed and play with in the morning. And we haven’t got Eric yet…I’m off to pack away all my ornaments. Better to go that than have to shout if things get smashed when the book case is explored, as it will inevitably be.
Where did “iview” come from? I swear I typed “icier”!
Oh wow, that must be super busy, all of a sudden, with 2 (!) new cats, and another one on its way. Enjoy your new furry bosses. 🙂
Wow, that’s fantastic. I bought a fridge magnet that said “this house is owned and operated strictly for the comfort and convenience if the cats”.
Enjoy your new furries.
I love your fridge magnet. I thint this whole household will operate on a similar principle for a few months, while these tiny tartars sort us out. They have already established a lair, which, naturally, is not the one we made specially for them. They have taken over Dakkie’s litter tray (the horror!) and they own the spare bedroom. They act in concert, but Titus is the conductor, and Alexander first violin. The apartment seems much smaller!
I love that, need to get one for friends!
Kittens!!! I hope that everyone adjusts quickly, and that Dakkie appreciates how much you do for him.
Do we now have to call you “Crazy Cat Lady”? 🙂
Yes, I think so…I love the dear man, but I can resist HIS wiles. Mind you, he doesn’t rush around the floor batting a small piece of plastic that makes a wonderful rattle as it flies along. Or climb the curtains (not yet, anyway). Clearly, I have man resistance, but not kitten resistance… I couldn’t think of breaking up the Bro’s and leaving Alexander behind.
Titus, Alexander and Eric are fabulous names! Now you need to get a girl kitten and let her organize the tartars.
Cant have cats at the moment, so Im enjoying these updates!
Another gorgeous sunny day here, wearing Tonka Imperiale.
You smell great!
Beautiful Sunday here. I thought my husband was off today so my plans to go hunting for a new living room accent chair were dashed when I discovered him MIA this AM. I guess we should talk more, lol. The chair that needs to be replaced is a red leather one that the cats have only now decided is an excellent scratching post after 4 years. Any advise on fabrics that they won’t tear up? Or at least that wont show it? Our couch is microfiber and slightly fuzzy and fares better eventhough they do scratch it. But wanted a contrasting upholstery. The same looks too matchy-matchy.
Testing out Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt on one hand, and English Pear & Freesia on the other. Both nice (and faint) in their own ways. Now that one Sephora carries it, I’m revisiting the line. The Cedar/Cypress one was a big no. Smells dank and moldy on me.
Favorite lippies:
*Lipstick Queen Butterfly Ball in Sigh-rosy, sheer pink with a bit of holographic green/blue. Great if you don’t have full lips or very smooth lios.
*Buxom gloss in Dolly-sheer mauve and also works great applied thin under drier lipsticks. Slight plumping effect. My most used product.
*BITE Agave balm/primer stick. Also good under dry lippies but it’s matte.
*Lipsmackers in Dr. Pepper- just a hint of red.
*NARS Dolce Vita matte velvet pencil. Also just a sheer flush of red.
I don’t do bold either. I’ve tried, even have had the SAs apply with liner and all, and the consensus is still, no.
I think the Juniper & Cedarwood has cumin in it. Which Sephora carries the Jo Malones?
It didn’t smell sweaty to me. More swampy/moldy. The 34th St Herald Square now has them!
Oh thanks for that info!!! Is that the largest Sephora in the city?
And if that is the case, just go to Macy’s and do the smelling there and then go to Sephora to get the samples if Macy’s is too stingy.
Ah now that is a great tip!!!! thank you 🙂
Dr. Pepper Lipsmacker! So good!
Isn’t it? I have a harder time finding it nowadays.
I’ve seen it at Dylan’s candy store. The one on the UES.
I have the cherry Coke one. Will have to look for Dr Pepper…. also love Lipstick Queen Jean Queen. Agree Dolly is a great color.
ALL fabrics tear under kitty claws. My best recommendation is to try distracting them with something else to scratch – my dearly departed Caz adored those boxes with corrugated cardboard strips packed in sideways (so the corrugation is visible), which were lightly infused with catnip dust. Kept him away from the nubuck couch … mostly. 😉
Seconding the cardboard strips! My girls showed me that they like best the narrower strips that go on the side of the box, so now I just buy bunch of those (very affordable) and place them all over the house. It doesn’t look terribly elegant but it works.
And I like English Pear & Freesia (not enough to go for a bottle but it is nice to have a couple of samples around)
Ha, yes. We have several cardboard boxes around for them and they are a bit of an eyesore. Don’t think I need a bottle either. It’s intermittently reminding me of those scented Kleenex. It’s a very prim fragrance: lace doilies, delicate china, hair up in a bun, white sundress, etc.
True. And I really need to clip their nails more often as I was reminded when the little one in my gravatar tried to jump from the floor to my shoulder today! We have a couple of those cardboard scratching posts and the ones that are on the cat tree, the rugs which I care less about they also use. I can ward them off when we’re home, but when we’re gone all day…
SOTD is N-Cigale “Pin Mystic”.
Notes are elemi, aldehydes, incense, pine, woody notes, patchouli and cedar.
This perfume is good in hot weather but the early promise of sunshine has flattered only to deceive. In fact TOMK and I got semi-drenched in t-shirts and shorts.
I wore Lostmarc’h Iroaz yesterday and liked it enough to spring for a larger sample/decant. But today Cristalle EDT was calling my name, so that’s my Sunday treat.
On lipstick, I seem to react badly to everything except Bobbi Brown’s, and even then I can only wear them over a coat of Paula’s Choice lip balm (the one in the blue and white pot). I’ve been wanting to try a brighter red lately and am thinking of risking the Chanel moisturizing one on the strength of several recs in this thread.
What a perfect weather day!
Wearing 31 Rue Cambon, heading to Trader Joe’s for weekly groceries and then picking up our favorite golden doodle for a few days to watch for friends.
Happy Sunday!
Fun to doggy sit and then give it back 😉 A friend I was out with on Friday night has an adorable dachshund that she shares with a neighbor, literally. Like joint custody. She said it’s worked out so well and gives them both a break since having a dog in the city is kind of a pain, especially in winter.
I’m surprised no one has started a business of this type of arrangement. These friends of ours travel so much in the summer the dog is moved between 3-4 families and boy does he get spoiled.
My sister-in-law’s friend is away more than she’s home so the friend’s dog is now part of my brother’s household (with the other 2 King Charles Cavalier) and the friend just visits the dog.
I wore Musc 25 in the morning and then after a shower, spritzed on some Oliver Peoples. I didn’t notice that both fragrances are based on Los Angeles until just now. Guess my subconscious is in Southern California today instead of at my dining room table starting to plan for the new school year.
I am in SoCal and it is gorgeous outside, but still seated at my desk with a scary amount of work to do…
I haven’t been able to bring myself to start actively planning for the upcoming semester, but I am in the midst of cleaning and purging my home office, so I’m considering that a significant preparatory step…..
Wearing 10 Corso Como today, from my newly arrived shipment!
Not much going on perfume wise, but did bring back two perfumes and a box of samples from home to play with. Really enjoying Eau de Merveilles Bleu. Hope to get back into the swing of things!
I have a lot of lipsticks…cheap pick-me-up. I swear they’re all similar though….
Have been nursing a sick fella…cold hit his sinuses hard, and he’s very uncomfortable. So, I’ve avoided scents. And, I’ve been “off” myself. Unfortunate on such a lovely day. But…I’ve had a sweet little cat snuggled next to me much of the time. Hard to think that a few years ago, she was a feral who was afraid of people.
And now she has a wonderful home thank to you.
I hope that you both feel better soon!
