A trailer for the documentary film Perfume War, about grower Abdullah Arsala of Aghanistan and Barb Stegemann of Canadian perfume house The 7 Virtues. You can read more about the film at The Man Who Defied the Taliban by Growing Flowers at Pacific Standard:
Stegemann, who borrowed off her credit card after her bank refused her a loan, spent 2,000 Canadian dollars to purchase one cup of the bitter orange oil to produce her first perfume, Afghanistan Orange Blossom.
You can follow the film at Twitter or Facebook; it opens nationwide at Cineplex in Canada on April 14. As always, no political comments please!

Looks like a great story. And what a job they did with this trailer. I was *this* close to needing a box of tissues.
It’s an emotional story, that’s for sure.
Many Many thanks!!!! Fantastic trailer. Hope they show this in the USA.
It has played a few film festivals here, but no idea if it will get released otherwise.
What a wonderful story. Hope it makes it to the U.S. or Netflix. I wasn’t familiar with the indie house, The 7 Virtues. Looking forward to trying them now!
Me too! I was not aware at all!
OMG so beautiful. Thank you for posting that Robin. I’m going to look up 7 Virtues too and looking forward to seeing that movie when it becomes available here or online.
Thank you, Robin! I didn’t know the full story, and it’s even more incredible than I would have imagined and so inspiring. Plus I was reminded that I still haven’t tried her Lisa Ray Jasmine of India.
Thanks for showing this, Robin. That trailer was absolutely stunning. I’m now putting The 7 Virtues on the “Try This!!” list.
I own and enjoy The 7 Virtues Noble Rose of Afghanistan. It’s a lovely, natural-smelling, “pink” rose. It is not watered down by peony or blackcurrant, like so many pink rose fragrances seem to be these days. I wish that its carnation note was stronger, but I realize that that isn’t possible due to IFRA 🙁
I’ve avoided Lord & Taylor on 5th Avenue for quite a while. It seems I need to stop in and sniff The 7 Virtues line!
