I find La Fille de Berlin really comforting, too.

Hi Now Smell This, thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes yesterday. I appreciate each and every one of them.
1. Too many: Histoires de Parfums 1725, Chanel Boy, Huitieme Art Shermine, Aedes Cierge de Lune,
2. Atelier Cologne Emeraude Agar
3. Carner Barcelona D600
4. Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradis soap, Yves Rocher Olive & Petitgrain shower gel
5. It was my birthday just yesterday. And next month I’m going to Milan for Esxence
OMG! Happy belated birthday, Lucas!! You are NST’s pride and joy! Now, how did you celebrate??
Thank you Ari! Actually I only spent the evening with my parents and we ate a birthday cake last weekend actually because my grandma was visiting and she just had to have some sweets with her only grandson.
I got a book and a new jazz CD as a gift. Plus I’m going to treat myself to some perfume
Book, music, cake, perfume, and grandma=perfect birthday! Happy birthday!
Thank you
I am so excited for you for your birthday trip. What fun!!!!
I love Milan, can’t believe it will be my 4th time at Esxence
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, and have a great trip to Milan!
Happy birthday, Lucas! Did you decide what perfume you’re getting yourself?
I think Arbole Arbole
That sounds like a wonderful choice, Happy Birthday!
Happy belated Birthday to you! Hope your birthday celebration continues through the weekend. Let us know what fragrant treat you bought for yourself!
Have a great time at Esxence!
Happy belated birthday! Hope it was a great one!
Good morning!!! There is sun outside. Sun outside. Sun outside!!!!
1. Coco Chanel, for the memories
2. Mitsouko parfum, always
3. L’Etrog
4. Pecksniff’s Ginger Flower & Patchouli talc
5. Did I mention the bright sun and blue skies outside? Watching my cats sunning themselves.
Good call on the Mitsouko. I didn’t think of that.
So happy you’re getting some rays! ????
It’s a cold sunny day today, but sun is sun. We Californians have lost the knack for tholing rain on end. This winter has been a bear!
Yay to sun and blue skies!????
Ooh, yeah, Mitsouko!
I also love ginger flowers and patchouli! It’s one of my top favorites.
Hey, we’re ultimate-comfort-scent cousins! I love catching a whiff of Coco in the wild.
Watching kitties sunning themselves is pure relaxation for me, especially when they wash their little paws at the same time. =^..^=
Sun and blue sky! Sun and blue sky! We skipped out on every single chore and responsibility this weekend and have just been outside as much as possible, soaking it all up.
1. your ultimate comfort scent,
L’Heure Bleue
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent,
Incense Pure, Seville a L’Aube
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it,
Samsara – I literally lol when I open the bottle!
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it, and
Roger & Gallet Jean Marie Farina soap – a happy blast from the past!
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
This (whatever it is) too shall pass! 🙂
Have a great weekend all.
Yes to L’Heure Bleue!
AH! I forgot about my beloved Samsara!
That is my sandalwood bliss
L’Heure Bleue is beautiful. I smelled it recently for the first time in forever and realized that my beloved Oscar is a descendant.
The Samsara bottle is a smile-maker. It almost looks like a little person in a red cloak with a gold collar.
LOVE Jean-Marie Farina!
I love learning I’ve got some potential scent twins here! 🙂
Agreed on L’Heure Bleue, thanks for the reminder. I pulled out mine post shower and it’s my SOTD. I should use it more often as I have a huge 2 oz bottle of edp.
I love these questions!
1. I have to go with Lush Vanillary — I just ordered a new bottle because I’d run through my old travel spray and started to miss it. If I don’t count Ralph by Ralph Lauren in high school (and I do try not to), it’s my first bottle-size repurchase. That’s pretty ultimate, right?
2. Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, which has just the right combination of sophistication and softness that I wore it whenever I expected a stressful day at the office.
3. Fresh Sake.
4. Trader Joe’s coconut body butter.
5. My dog is snoring on me, which is certainly doing for now.
How is the Trader Joe’s body butter? I am obsessed with a good one.????
I love it! Very effective, and the sensory experience is precisely equal to coconut cake frosting.
+1 for Trader Joe’s bath and body products. I’ve never disliked one I’ve tried and many of them have very nice low-key scents.
Ooh, really excited for everyone’s answers on this one. Most of my collection falls into comfort scent territory- a perfume psychologist could have a field day 😉
The smell of a Lush Sakura bath bomb or the Arquiste Art Deco candle both signal Self-Care Time to my brain.
If I don’t find some comfort in it somewhere, why wear it? That’s what perfume is for!
1. The People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo.
2. Diptyque Philosykos
3. Ormonde Jayne Frangipani
4. Lush Happy Hippy
5. I find the NST comment section, and how kind and helpful people are to each other 99.99% of the time, an infinite source of comfort and cheer.
+1 on #2 and especially #5 🙂
I have been wondering why I find Philosykos so comforting. It feels like an old friend, and did even when I first smelled it and thought how odd that someone would make a perfume that smelled like that (yes, I was a real newbie).
I know what you mean – it feels familiar and natural and comforting, despite being completely different from anything else out there.
I love Philosykos, too. My grandmother used to have a fig tree by her back door. I remember many happy days running in and out of her house, brushing past that intoxicating smell of fig tree. Philosykos always reminds me of this! Scent memory!
I love your #5 too!
High 5 number 5! ????????
Yes to #5!
Love your #5, which is all the more cheerful because of the lead posts ( and frequent inspirational reviews) that appear miraculously every single day.
Number 5 for the win.
Agree on #5 ????
Mic drop on your No 5!! 🙂 #Indeed!
Yay for #5- we are such a lucky bunch!
#5! This last week, I had to deal with so much nastiness at work … but there were also e-mails from someone from NST who offered to mail (from abroad!) a sample of a discontinued fragrance. Wow, that gesture of kindness provided so much comfort & cheer!
Yes! Lovely people here. And generous.
Agreed on #5, and it’s all made possible by you and the other awesome NST ‘staff’! ????
With you all the way on no. 5!
I expected to find Theorema on your list!
Isn’t that funny!!! But I can think of 20 poll questions that Theorema would be my first answer to 🙂
Yay! This is one of my favorite places in the world to be! I absolutely love everyone here!
The people here make this one of my very favorite corners of the Internet.
Yes to no.5! Cannot count how many times you guys restored my blood pressure to normal this last year. It’s safe to say that without NST I would have already given up on the news altogether!
Robin, I love Lush Happy Hippy too.
By the way, L’Erbolario Citrus bath foam (which I mostly use as a shower gel) has a similar cheerful scent.
And much cheaper! Adding to my list. They also have one called “Neroli Neroli”, have you tried that?
I hope you will like it! And if it’s much cheaper in the US, that’s great. Here, if you compare the medium-sized bottle of Happy Hippy (250 g) and a bottle of Citrus, the cost per 100 ml is roughly the same. And buying a large bottle of Happy Hippy actually gives me a better deal.
I have not tried Neroli Neroli, but I should, because it sounds really up my alley. Thanks!
My favourite bath foams/shower gels of this brand (in addition to Citrus) are Verde (bitter green, rather masculine, very refreshing), Assenzio/Absinthe (another green herbal blend), Corteccia/Bark (recommended for those who want a woody scent in the shower) and Meharees (oriental dream in a bottle).
Te e Cedro/Tea and Citron is nice but a bit bland on its own. However, I found that it works great with Lush Flying Fox – like showering with a jasmine-scented green tea.
Yeah, you’re probably right — I just realized it’s on 50% markdown at the store I was looking at, but they have terrible shipping prices. I will have to look around! They used to have a tiny store in the mall near me, but it closed years ago.
Completely agreed on #2 and #5. I actually wore Philosykos out to a party on Friday and got some unexpected compliments! It’s a real pleasure of a fragrance.
Hopping into the #5 group hug — you guys are the best!! 🙂
And I find Philosykos very comforting, too, but I grew up in a place with lots of fig trees and the scent of their leaves is a happy childhood association for me.
1. your ultimate comfort scent,
Hmm…pretty much anything vanilla is comforting to me. Casmir is a special favorite.
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent,
White Shoulders because it reminds me of my mom and grandma; the smell of sawdust, wood and gasoline because it makes me think of my dad’s shed/workshop
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it,
Laura Ashley No. 1, DSH Ambre, Chant d’Aromes
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it, and
pretty much any of the Pacifica bath products; the vanilla is my favorite right now but I’ll probably go back to lilac or maybe lemon blossom in the spring
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
After being off perfume for a few years of having babies, baby medical drama, moving, etc.., I’m having so much fun rediscovering my fragrance collection!
And now for something else….
I hear lots about when NOT to wear big perfumes such as Amarige, Giorgio, Poison, etc… Let’s say I really like one of these big, huge perfumes. I know it’s too distracting for work and I shouldn’t wear, say, Amarige, at dinner lest the 20 foot tuberose devour everyone at the table. So, when do we get to wear the honking huge perfumes?
When you are hanging out at home or going to be walking around outside. 🙂
+1. Also mingling-type parties and events.
Any place where people are not stuck with you and can move away if your perfume bothers them. As melissa suggested, big parties, sightseeing, shopping – or many other places and occasions but with a very light application.
Yes, please, not in places where people can’t get away. I have a horror story about saving up babysitting money to go see a movie with friends back in middle school, only to be totally gassed out by an older lady (clearly on a date with her husband) who was wafting Opium a good ten feet in all directions. The theater was crowded, moving to the end of the row didn’t help, and I spent two hours alone in the lobby trying not to cry.
I love big perfumes, and wore them for evening all the time back when people could still smoke in bars and restaurants. Now they stand out a lot more, and, like others here, I usually only wear them for outdoor events. I am guilty of occasionally wearing them to the grocery store or Starbucks (I sit outside) as well . . .
Yes, Chant d’Arômes! The Pacifica bath products are great. Stock up on whatever you can find, because the shower gels are gone, and the soaps appear to be going away too…
Now I’m imagining a 20ft-tuberose at a dinner table. ????
Oh pooh! The Pacifica shower gels are so nice, especially the Island Vanilla and Sandalwood. I will grab them when I see them.
Good to know. My local Ulta still has them so I’ll have to snap some up.
I wear Amarige to work occasionally. I apply one small spritz shared between wrists, and do that at least half an hour before leaving the house. Same technique with LouLou.
I underdstand your cocern for others, but these fragrances do calm; it’s not as if you are creating a wall of scent with just one spritz! Have fun!
I’m awful, I will wear a big perfume anywhere. I do try and limit the sprays though.
I’m the same. I do try to be mindful of others, but I love wearing those “big ” scents.
Me too for the most part. Since I can’t wear it to work I tend to overdose after work and on the weekends. Love it!
Me too! Specially to work, because I’m shy and a big fume sort of counters that.
I do, too but don’t always limit sprays tbh. Carpe diem, I say! 😉
Big stuff applied sparingly is generally okay, unless you’re going to the theater/opera/symphony.
eyes tearing up #2
Such lovely memories
Going out dancing, spending time at home, parties that are rather crowded and/or fancy. You can also try dabbing the Big Scents instead of spraying, to cut down the silage a bit!
1. Vintage Bal
2. Lyric, Epic and Theorema
3. Andy Tauer Ingrid
Wearing Mitsouko EDP today. Needing something a little bracing today.
You smell fantastic! I find Lyric comforting too.
1. Theorema
2. Eau des Merveilles
3./4. Chanel No. 5 Eau de Cologne, vintage. After a relaxing bath it’s so nice to splash this on, followed by the No. 5 bath powder,( current).
5. Looking forward to meeting my family for dinner tonight.
Have great weekend everyone!
Hope it was a lovely family dinner!
Agree with everything on your list. 🙂
1. still looking!
2. If I’m feeling a bit off the only scent I like is Dzing. A lot of people seem to find it very potent or even confrontational but I find it soothing.
3. Lipstick Rose
4. The Satsuma line from The Body Shop.
5. I know there are lots of tea drinkers around here, but I take comfort every morning in the fact that coffee is actually good for you . . .
Yes! Loving all the positive reports on coffee! Talk about comfort!!
Yes to coffee! Probably my ultimate comfort consumable. And I indulge often.
Coffee makes every morning better for me. 🙂
I suspect there are MORE coffee drinkers than tea drinkers. I think there are just so many more varieties of tea than coffee that it’s a matter of discussion?
You might be right about that, Robin. I’m an inveterate coffee snob (years working as a barista at various hip coffee shops have contributed) with a relatively newfound tea habit. There’s a lot less to say about coffee for the most part, although it is delicious. And I am making some right now–caffe vita “Luna city” blend, slightly spicy and a hint of fruitiness to the beans.
And when I drank coffee, I was not really a coffee snob. I liked a good latte, but never worried much about the provenance of the beans and whatnot. I think I’m a tea snob because there is such a huge variance in tea quality / style, so it’s worth learning at least a little about what you’re doing. Maybe closer to wine than to coffee, in that sense? (Or, I’m just showing how little I know about coffee!)
Ack! What great questions and I’m predicting this weekend poll comment section will blow-up! This makes for great reading and thinking for a weekend off work.
1. your ultimate comfort scent
Everything in my arsenal brings me comfort in one form or another.
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent.
Still on my Salomé bender, not a typical comfort scent, but I find it incredibly soothing and reassuring.
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it.
My first thought was FM Vetiver Extraordinaire.
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it.
I’m using grocery store stuff in an effort to save money and be assured no residual scent messes with my chosen SOTD.
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
In general, things that cheer and comfort me are widely divergent: a dog’s wagging tail, a good book, stimulating music and conversation, excitement for future adventures, unexpected love, meeting amazing people in the most unlikely places, etc…about to dive into a chili lime chicken burger with the works. Also about to dive into “Home Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow,” by Yuval Noah Harari. The premise behind this book is one that has obsessed my ever since I was a child.
From Amazon: What then will replace famine, plague, and war at the top of the human agenda? As the self-made gods of planet earth, what destinies will we set ourselves, and which quests will we undertake? Homo Deus explores the projects, dreams and nightmares that will shape the twenty-first century—from overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This is Homo Deus.
There’s this amazing affordable grocery store shower gel — Softsoap something something with oil — that comes in peony or iris. They both have noticeable soft fragrance in the shower but it doesn’t linger, and the oil is moisturizing enough to skip lotion.
It’s a nice sunny and cool day here in the desert, and I’m just hoping the College GameDay jinx doesn’t show up later and spoil it.
1) Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
2) Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
3) Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
4) Pacifica Persian Rose shower gel, now discontinued. Dangit!
5) Spring Training has started–yaaay!
Hmm, for some reason, I feel like I should go with 31RC for my SOTD. I wonder where that idea came from? ????
Have a wonderful weekend, NST!
Ha! You’re on Rue Cambon Bender- enjoy????
I am definitely enjoying it–thanks!
So how do you feel about 31 Rue Cambon? 🙂
😀
Ehh, it’s kinda meh.
(????I couldn’t even type that without laughing.)
Should I ask if you LOVE 31 Rue Cambon ????? It is really beautiful!
Yeah, I didn’t really make it clear, did I? ???? It is gorgeous. To me, it’s the olfactory equivalent of late afternoon sunshine: golden and warm.
Yay for spring training! Can’t wait for opening day!
There must be a way to make your own Rue Cambon shower gel.
1. Pichola
2. POAL
3. Hiram Green Moon Bloom
4. Jo Malone Wild Fig and Cassis Body Lotion ( discontinued- several BUB)
5. It’s sunny, breezy, and 75 degrees here in Florida- sending cheerful energy to everyone. Have a great weekend!
We hit the high 60s in PA today, so it’s one Saturday I am not jealous of your weather!
1. Paris YSL my oldest standby
2. Rien, Aromatics Elixir and First
3. Vamp à New York, nearly finished my first bottle
4. My wonderful artisanal lavender soap that I bought a couple of years ago.
5. This week I discovered the phenomenon of Pataphysics. Which makes Monty Python seem almost commonplace. It’s given me many a good giggle this past week.
Had to go look that up and laughed when I read-
“Pataphysics prides itself on its uselessness, so it is with mixed sentiment that I can report that the volume under review is actually quite useful as a guide to an inherently indefinite field.”
The official orchestra of the London Institute of ‘Pataphysics is the London Snorkelling Team. 🙂
Great questions, Robin!
1.
Fille en aiguilles
Incense royale
2.
Opium
Eau de narcisse bleu
3.
Big flowers. Especially a good jasmine scent! Tuberose and narcissus sometimes work too.
4.
I fancy shampooing my hair (not a fan of a certain product or brand, i just like to wash my hair 🙂 at the moment I use L’occitane)
And I like those post-shower leave-in-hair-oils!
Now testing a small tube of Balmain argan elixir but I am not that excited.
So, recommendations for good hair oils are welcome! 🙂
5.
First of all. This blog/community and all the lovely people here cheer me up. Always.
Yesterday, the day after a pretty rough storm, we had a very sunny afternoon! I went for a walk outside, in the woods. That feeling of sunshine on my skin, it cheered me up big time!
I use Loccitane in my hair products too, as well as Living Proof. Which Loccitane hair shampoo do you use. I use the one that has all the oils
Have you ever smelled Oribe hair products? So lovely. But so so expensive. They make a gold lust hair oil
I use the Repairing shampoo at the moment. Its the one with a red label and yes, lots of oils.
I’v never smelled Oribe, looking at the price tags right now, they are kinda scary 😉
But that wont keep me from trying/sampling of course (I sample expensive perfumes too, even though I know beforehand I ‘ll never ever buy them).
Nice poll!
Comfort scent: Fève Délicieuse
Unexpected comfort scent: Dzongkha
Happy scent: Profumum Vanitas
Shower gel: Lush Yummy Mummy
Things that make me happy: my sweet furries, good tea, a good book, a good workout. And of course NST!
Always hard to pick only a few but here goes:
1) Miller Harris L’Air de Rien-though I don’t wear it out of the house.
2)Chanel no 5 EDT-soft and hazy
3) de Nocolai L’Temps d’une Fete and Tauer Sotto la Luna Gardenia
4) Lush Godiva shampoo bar! Looove that jasmine explosion.
5) Saw a funny off-Broadway show show last night called “Beardo”, a rock musical based on the life of Rasputin. It was hilarious!
And a lazy Saturday morning that included perfect bacon and reading everyone’s picks in the poll. I ❤ NSTers.
I feel like I should love No. 5 but I just don’t…surely I’m missing something?
It’s OK not to love or even like the classics. I don’t care for No. 5 at all. That just means that there is more for those who do love it.
Yes, you should, and so should I. But we don’t, and we’re a pretty big club 🙂
I actually only like (love) no 5 EDT. I’ve never smelled the parfum so don’t know about that one. I don’t really like any of the others, including its flankers.
I actually did enjoy the spritzes of L’Eau and Eau Premiere (one on each arm the other day)…original is just too much for me.
FWIW, though I don’t try and force myself to like something I don’t like, I do periodically come back to some things I didn’t use to like because my tastes have changed a lot over the years. I tried VC&A First a few years ago and, surprisingly liked it, and since it reminded me of no 5, I went back and tried it again and fell in love with the EDT!
I feel the same way, Kelly. I have No.5 in the elixir sensuel, but I don’t wear it often. It’s on my dresser, encouraging me to use it up before it goes south!
Zomg the Elixir Sensuel is TDF. Love that stuff mmmm…. I occasionally look for it on ebay but it ain’t cheap. Maybe someday…
I don’t like wearing it, but I like to smell it once in a while, so I have the bath milk and body cream. That way it doesn’t last long but I get a good whiff.
I love no 5 in the parfum
1. Brin de Reglisse.
2. Vol de Nuit, especially the parfum.
3. Epice Marine. That initial blast of spices is like a drug.
4. I rarely use scented bath products, really. I’m addicted to Astier de Villatte incense right now though, especially Stockholm and Aoyama.
5. Having a nice cup of coffee while reading my book. I’ve been reading terrible 70’s sci fi recently for a friend’s used book project, and I might be ready for something not terrible.
VdN parfum is really great!
Posdibly my holy grail vintage, though I think the newest formulation isn’t bad. Vintage is cheaper than retail though.
Ironic isn’t it?!? And the closest thing I have to an HG too.
1. Gris Clair
2. Dzing!, Philosykos
3. Escentric 2. Instant smile!
4. I don’t know if they count as body products, but I always love using Lush lip scrubs.
5. I make a point of looking for people being kind or considerate, and I see evidence of small acts of grace all the time. I also find fresh air, birds, and good fresh vegetables extremely comforting.
Your #5 is a wonderful reminder to look for the good all around and enjoy. 🙂
1. I don’t know that I have an ULTIMATE comfort scent. I have *candidates* for Ultimate Comfort: Mariella Burani, vinty Emeraude, Parfum Sacre, and AG Petite Cherie.
2. Unusual comfort scent might be No. 19, which I like to call “invisible armor,” and which creates a comfortable space inside that armor. Maybe La Myrrhe.
3. Cheerful scent might be Pamplelune or the old version of PdN Vanille Tonka (that lime!).
4. The Body Shop’s Grapefruit shower gel makes me smile.
I’m making an apple pie today. Yum.
Hey Mals! I am with you on Chanel 19, it is my comfort scent as well. 🙂
The Body Shop’s Pink Grapefruit is one that I love too. Satsuma is pretty awesome as well (if you are a fan of orange). I always have these two on hand.
I want pie!
Comfort Scent: Lots, but I’m going to say Avignon or Jaisalmer because they remind me of church and church reminds me of my faith and faith comforts me.
Unexpected Comfort: Geisha Noire because it reminds me of home baking.
Happy Scent: Byredo Oliver Peoples. It just makes me smile.
Bath Product: I haven’t found one that does that for me, but when I think about it I haven’t spent a lot of time or money looking for one.
Comforting and Cheering: Seeing my children enjoying each other and enjoying being parents and spouses; every single thing about my grandchildren.
Haven’t tried Jaisalmer yet but yes to Avignon! One of my comforts as well.
How could I forget Geisha Noire?! It doesn’t remind me of baking but it is just so cozy.
1. your ultimate comfort scent
Oh, it depends on the season – in summer it’s Escale a Portofino (usually), and in winter it’s TF Noir Pour Femme (for now). Really, just wearing scent is the ultimate comforting thing for me.
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent
Azemour les Oranges.
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it
I haven’t found my perfect “happy” scent yet, but Philosykos comes very close.
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it
Ditto, and I’m reading everyone else’s answers on this closely!
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
Woke up to brilliant sunshine this morning – very cheering. Plus, we hired a new helper person at work who I’m very excited (and relieved) to have.
SOTM is L’Artisan Bucoliques de Provence – lovely lavender for a lovely day. Happy Saturday all!
Azemour les Oranges! That one is definitely on my short list of happy places too. It’s in the ‘complicated to pull out’ perfume box for the winter, so I didn’t think of it–but maybe I’ll go and dig it out after my shower!
1. The ultimate: L’air du Desert Marocain. It might be hard to imagine something so dry and austere comforting, but it is. Runners up: SSS Tabac Aurea, Coromandel, Parfum Sacre
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent: I suppose LADDM should go here! But others I find unusual for a comfort scent are: Smell Bent Never Never Land, PdE Ambre Russe, AG Ninfeo Mio
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it: Lush 25:43, PdN Eau Exotique,
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it: the cheap thrill BBW White Citrus shower gel. A big, ole smack of citrus – guaranteed to start your day refreshed.
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering… A cat who had been in the shelter where I volunteer for over two years was adopted last week. Whatever his experience with humans had been must have been truly bad, because when he first came to us, no one could get within 5 feet of him (he’d run and hide). It was a year before he trusted anyone enough for us to pet him. And another 6 months before he actively looked for affection from us. Why yes, I did cry when he left. Happy tears (well, maybe a bit bittersweet; I will miss him).
Oh my gosh, your #5 brought a lump to my throat! 🙁
Go kitty! So happy he found a home and some human love!????
Number 5 was very touching. I hope he finds all the love and happiness that he really deserves.
Your #5, Aparatchick, wins!
Item 5 is awesome. Go kitty! And a big thanks to all the humans who made it possible.
I love a kitty success story! Thanks for sharing that.
#5 is so wonderful, so glad he’s finally got a new home!
I am with you on LADDM. Very comforting for me too. And yay for the kitty!!
Fun poll! Too hard to pick just one in each category, so I won’t!
1. Ultimate comfort scent:
Shangri La
2. Unusual comfort:
Eau des Merveilles, Vetiver Tonka, Mohur
3. Cheers me up:
All
Of the above plus Dilettante, 31 Rue Cambon, Pichola, no 19…oh, and so many more!
4. Bath products:
Ivory soap, reminds me of childhood. Rose Jam, Almond Shower Oil, Queen body butter
5. Cuddles with my sweetheart, cuddles with my cat are the ultimate comfort and cheer.
Wishing a cheery and comforting weekend to you all!
OK, I’ll be odd man out.
Just like the fact that I don’t really like Nutella, I don’t register perfume emotionally.
I like it or I don’t, parse the notes, and move on.
Two comforting scents to me are a big pan of lasagna in the oven and freshly baked Toll House cookies.
Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme is my SOTD. Vetiver, cedarwood, and some leather.
Surprisingly subtle for an EDP.
Triple strength coffee.
Two weeks hence, Daylight Savings Time begins. Yay!
I can feel spring acomin’ !!!
😀
Carpe Diem. Peace.
I wish I could use a tiny font, but I don’t like Nutella either, and you are the only other person in the world who has said that.
It needs to be more than mezza-mezz (half and half in Italian).
More chocolate, or more hazelnut, and what is with the grease?!?!
LOL
Cheers, ScentSpirit!!
Agreed. I have called it palm oil spread, which makes my teenager sons roll their eyes.
Joining the club. I don’t like Nutella either.
I don’t like it either. So there are three of us at least.
Ok, now I really know that I have found my tribe. There are four other people out there besides me who don’t like Nutella. I love you guys!
While I kind of like Nutella, I’m with you on perfumes: I do not connect them with particular emotions. Some scents might associate with particular activities or events (I have special occasion perfumes, travel perfumes, wine tasting perfumes, etc.), but it’s more of a mental thing than emotional.
Yes, I also don’t see them as colors.
I find it interesting that some people wear certain perfumes with specific color garments.
They are olfactory experiences devoid of other ‘stuff’.
I’m also on Team Not Nutella. I totally don’t get it.
I’m not a huge fan of Nutella either(though I don’t hate it) but there’s a bakery in Manhattan called Bread that makes a chocolate babka and they use Nutella in it. It is Divine!!! Although that might also just be the massive amounts of butter ????
Freshly baked Toll House cookies came to mind as a comfort as well. I try to always have some dough in the freezer or fridge. I bake only as many as I’m going to eat as they’re best fresh out of the oven, warm and gooey.
One year I made the cookie dough about a week before I was going to bake them.
By the time the week was up, I had eaten the unbaked Toll House dough spoon by spoon. 😉
Had to make the dough again the day before (I find chilled cookie dough bakes better than freshly made.)
Thanks to everyone for sharing so far and to Robin for the comfort & cheer inspiration. I had a bungled up week so this is a perfect way to unwind and reflect.
1. ultimate comfort – Chanel No. 5 EdP after an evening shower
2. unusual comfort – the soft-focus feeling of Cologne du 68
3. always cheers – Eau des Merveilles! my SoTD
4. bath product – Oatmeal and Honey bar soap from Trader Joe’s has a gently-sweet spice-inflected scent.
5. Remember way back when a movie left the theaters and it was gone for who knows how long? Today we have the opposite – all of the movies, all of the time. Here’s a few I’ve watched more than once:
About a Boy
Babe
Clueless
Enchanted
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Legally Blonde
The Royal Tenenbaums (dark can be comfy, too)
Up
When Harry Met Sally (and Carrie Fisher!)
I’ve been watching the CNN series “History of Comedy,” which is surprisingly bad all things considered (great raw material, really boring and uninteresting commentary about it). But the clips from When Harry Met Sally have me hankering to re-watch that one.
I was watching that series, too, and found it really frustratingly disjointed. I wished they’d have spent more time on each segment of comedy history.
The CNN series sounds like a good one to have on in the background. 😉
Love Ferris Bueller. And I’ve been reading Jane Austen’s Emma lately, which has me wanting to see Clueless again.
2 fave quotes:
“Save Ferris?”
“That’s way harsh, Tai.”
I watched Clueless sometime last year and it has held up well.
I almost used Cologne du 68 as my happy scent since when I first put it on it reminds me of the Dana Ambush that I wore in jr. high. 🙂
Ahhhhh, jr. high was a fragrant place. I remember Ambush. That was a good scent, and I love lavender and heliotrope. It was nicer than the Love’s Baby Soft that everyone I knew was wearing (and I liked that one, too).
I really like the ring of “evening shower”, and topped off with no 5, sounds pampering.
Yah, it’s the only “luxe” part of my day. 🙂
I love Babe, too. The line, “That’ll do, pig,” often comes into my head but I never say it aloud lest it be misconstrued. LOL
When I really need to sleep, the ultimate comfort on my wrists to help send me off: Carner Barcelona Cuirs or Nanban. I don’t know exactly why.
Otherwise, comfort depends on what I need to be doing that day. Comfortable armor for a rough work day: Iris Cendré probably tops the list. Happy armor for a long but not difficult work day: Tobacco Rose. Cocoon for travel day: PoaL. Probably really unfair to those on the plane with me, but oh well.
A number of those probably count as unusual comfort scents! But like Ari, I think most of the perfume I own comforts me in some way or other.
Happiness in a bottle: Fille de Berlin and Bombay Bling.
Bath products: I am a Molton Brown girl and love their new rose. Many others, including the spendy and the inexpensive, dry my skin out too much. (Well, actually, I really do like the shower gel of Rose 31, but it’s just so expensive.) And I also like Happy Hippie and Rose Jam.
I had a big make out session with one of my cats this morning and that is the best. Waking up draped in kitty is generally a very good thing. A great book is the ultimate comfort. I recently reread David Copperfield for the umpteenth time for just the hit I needed this winter. My person. Kitten Emergency the best twitter feed ever. Embracing the fact that I have become a crazy cat lady . . .
I listened to Copperfield on audio-book, last summer I think (yes, it was like a billion hours long!) while I worked on a gardening project. I loved it.
For a contemporary Dickensian autobiography (okay, I just made up that genre!) I highly recommend Trevor Noah’s ‘Born a Crime.’ Funny, harrowing, and human.
Oh good recommendation, thank you!
1. I’m not sure I think of comfort scents, but I do have perfumes that I wear at home at the end of a busy day. They tend to be things that I wouldn’t wear to work, so maybe my comfort scents include things like Salome and Absolu Pour Le Soir.
2. Doesn’t meet the usual criteria – maybe see above 🙂
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it – I’ve got lots of those! Maybe Tobacco Vanille in particular, because I love it and it was a surprise present from my beloved. A similar question might be what gives me a sense of satisfaction, the answer to that would be the many things I’ve had to make an effort to get. Living in a beautiful miles away from anywhere has its downsides.
4. I tend to use plain old soap in the shower (I’ve got to save money somewhere!) but I love a lot of the Lush products.
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
Just being at home is lovely. I guess I’m not much of an adventurer.
I love being home too.
I do, too, and chalk some of that up to being an introvert.
Me four.
Me five. And Rose Jam literally makes me smile to myself in the shower.
Happy Saturday Everyone!
1. your ultimate comfort scent,
– lately for me, its been rose-scented fragrances (I’m not sure why, but for the past few months, rose scented fragrances made things seem a little easier to deal with)
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent,
– Montale’s Roses Elixir
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it,
– Jo Malone’s Nectarine Blossom & Honey; this has always been my go to scent when I want to feel happy or need a pick -me – up
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it,
– The Body Shop’s Satsuma shower gel; this burst of orange – goodness just makes everything seem better in the world
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering…
– for me with all I have been going through, that would be family, friends, my physical therapists (they have been god-sends to me), and books
Rose seems very healing to me as well.
Until this winter of my discontent, I was not much of a rose girl but I have been wearing mostly rose centric perfumes and they are comforting.
I find it very calming and soothing.
Satsuma does smell like sunshine in a bottle-hard to resist being cheered up by that one.
1. your ultimate comfort scent: Chanel No 5 EdT
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent: Bvlgari Black
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it: Angel Muse
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it: Waleda Sea Buckthorn creamy body wash! Mmmmmm
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering: I’m home today, doing laundry and cooking and taking care of my family…I LOVE THAT! 🙂
That Waleda Sea Buckthorn line smells great!
I cannot tell you how many tubes of that Weleda I have gone through now. They should sell it by the vat. (And wish they would, I hate flip top containers for shower gels.)
I used the Weleda Sea Buckthorn oil as my nightly belly rub when I was pregnant, and it was pretty much the only part of being pregnant that I enjoyed. 😉
Ultimate Comfort – SSS Champagne de Bois
Unusual Comfort – Hermes Iris Ukiyoe
Always Cheers – Neela Vermeire Pichola
Bath Product – Kiss My Face Green Tea bar soap… it also smells like new leather, depending on what you visualize.
We got a dusting of snow last night… I wish it had been lots more, but I’ll take what I can get!
I’d forgotten about Kiss My Face soaps! The scent of their basic olive oil soap yanks me right back to my first visit to serious subalpine country, doing a weeklong volunteer project in the Sierras and bathing with a big enameled pot on the edge of a meadow, and feeling like the heaven around me had completely saturated me.
1. Not sure I have an ultimate comfort scent. Hmm
2. Unusual comfort scent: Armani Prive Bois d’Encens. Settles me right down.
3. Byredo Pulp. Gotta be happy to wear this one.
4. Cheery shower gel: 365 Organics (Whole Foods) Lavender. Or L’Occitane Citrus Verbena, I have vats of it.
5a. Something cheery for me. Well, the power company says they’re going to turn our power back on sometime today. Of course they said that yesterday, too.
5b. Somthing cheery for you: I managed to get into town yesterday (drove around the ‘road closed’ barricades just like everyone else is doing) and I finally mailed my splitmeet stuff. Goodies are on their way!
And I still have stuff available at the splitmeet:
– 10ml FM Dries Van Noten
– 5ml Oriza L Legrand Reve d’Ossian
– 35ml Mugler Woodissime
https://nstperfume.com/2017/02/18/the-splitmeet-episode-7/
I agree with your #3 – you can’t help but to be happy when wearing Pulp
My ultimate comfort scent: Box of Eels in extrait
Unusual comfort scent: I feel wrapped in warm fur when I wear Muscs Koublai Khan.
Always cheers: Orange Sanguine
Bath product: I don’t have a bathtub anymore, so it’s soap or shower gel for me. I use original scent Neutrogena Rainbath the most, and some homemade castile soap when my skin is very dry.
Cheerful thing: Girl Scout cookie season!
Your Box of Eels always cheers me up 🙂
I use Rainbath too, the original. My fav!
I just ordered Girl Scout cookies yesterday but I think I need to add more to it!
The Thin Mints freeze very well…just sayin’ 😉
I agree……Orange Sanguine always seems to put a smile on my face as well 🙂
1. L’ Artisan Saffran Troublant, Le Labo Ambrette 9, Prada Infusion d’Iris.
2. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca and Pamplenue, Chanel 28 La Pausa, Iris Silver Mist.
3. PdN Week-End in Normandy and Hermes 24 Faubourg. They bring me good memories of my childhood.
4. I don’t have anyone in particular, but citrusy and rose bath products make me smile and happy.
5. The sound of the ocean waves, a walk in the beach, smelling flowers, a walk in the park in Fall when the leaves are changing colors, petting my dog.
You gave me a moment of smug self-satisfaction! Your #3 😉
I will always have to tell you: THANK YOU ????.
1. LeLabo Labdanum 18. Inspired by this poll, I am wearing it today. It’s so good.
2. Lancôme Miracle. I don’t wear or own this scent, but it has been my mother’s signature scent since it’s release. No matter where I am, if I catch a whiff, my Pavlovian response is to look and see where my mother is.
3. Eau des Merveilles.
4. Any good shower gel or soap really. In the winter I tend to use vanillas and in the summer, florals.
5. Winter comfort: snuggled on the couch in front of the fireplace with my two girls, one on each side. Summer comfort: being out on the water in the canoe or kayak with my hubby.
woot woot! Eau des Merveilles is my #3 as well.
I find Hermes Cuir d’Ange relaxing as it evokes my cats.
Honore des Pres Nu Green helps a lot when I desperately need a nature walk but cannot afford it.
Hermes Neroli Dore soap is really effective as a mindfulness technology.
Oh, I need that soap!! Have you tried the shower gel, or only the soap?
I tried the shower gel only in Gentiane Blanche and it is the best quality shower gel one can possibly imagine. Judging from that and the soap, the Neroli Dore shower gel should be fantastic.
Thank you!
1) Tam Dao – and I happen to be wearing it today too 😉
2) Le Labo The Noir, Jacomo Silences, Cristalle, Infusion d’Iris
3) TF Fleur de Chine
4) Lush Rose Jam
5) I have had a tumultuous year, with some bad things and some good things (like starting my own business). I have been amazed and honored at the support that I have gotten from my friends and family. Also – I volunteer at a cat adoption center and helping people find their special kitty and seeing them get forever homes makes my heart hurt in a good way.
YES to the Rose Jam!
Congrats on starting your own business. That’s a ginormous step!
1. your ultimate comfort scent
-Tam Dao and Avignon
2. a fragrance you find comforting, even though it doesn’t meet the usual criteria for a comfort scent
-probably TF Tuscan Leather. My man wears it and I sneak and spray it when he is gone if I miss him and it comforts me.
3. a fragrance that cheers you up every time you wear it
-I am never in a bad mood in my Shalimar…it makes me feel like a badass queen
4. a shower gel or other bath product that cheers you up every time you use it,
-I love my good ol’ Neutrogena Rainbath (original scent). I think it’s rejuvenating.
5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
We have a super fun new comedy club in town and I am excited to go see DL Hughley tonight with co-workers (who are like second family) and my love. Sure to be a lot of laughs!
Rainbath is indeed awesome.
Enjoy D.L. Hughley. He’s fantastic. I have followed him throughout his career and had the honor of seeing him when he was a part of “The Kings of Comedy” tour. He’s also pretty hot, IMO (LOL)!
I seriously laughed so hard I think I cracked a rib! His openers were great also, but man, he brought down the house and we had phenomenal seats! So glad to have fun new venue like that here. And yes, hot indeed! 😉
1. I’d have to say Shalimar Edp or Bois de Iles would fit the bill for comfort.
3. Chanel Gardenia makes me happy, every time.
5. While traveling, a quiet place with strangers around and slight humdrum. The air is just mildly too warm, but a slow breeze blows by and the fields are undulating because of it. Happens every so often.
Yes to #1 and especially #5!!!
I can feel #5. so wonderful.
1. The original Evelyn Rose. Smells like Mom.
2. Mitsouko, Tropic of Capricorn, Coromandel, in sure there are more but it’s Saturday and I’m not braining.
3. Epic, 28 La Pausa
4. The Body Shop Clementine shower gel.
5. I finally got around to watching that Nature episode on hummingbirds last night and the cats were actually more fun to watch than the show. They’ve never been that attracted to anything on TV, but the first little recorded hummingbird chatter brought them running. So cute.
You can add Pure Incense (Sultan Pasha) to number 1 as something I actually have in my collection.
Apologies if you are already in the know…but my older son gave me the following instructions, and the result had me crying I was laughing so hard (I do have one slightly psychotic cat, so that may be necessary–not sure.)
1. Go to Youtube and search for ‘Birds Flying in Slow Motion,’ here’s the link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddNqkqIWMKA&t=335s
2. Put down phone, tablet, whatever on the floor near cat.
3. Make sure you insure your phone before step 2, my cat grabbed the whole phone and ran into another room with it.
Forgot to add, play the sound fairly loud for added chaos.
Ooh! Nope, I had missed this. Will wait until Mr. Minion is home and sacrifice his phone since mine gets grabbed quite enough for its little cat-toy sized plushie dangle.
1. Ultimate comfort scent – anything with vanilla. Current favorite – Loree Rodkin Gothic I. First time I wore it my husband started looking for a cake – he thought I was carrying one 🙂
2. Other comforting ounces – Khol de Bahrain esp layered over Golden Iris lotion.
3. Fragrance that cheers me up – all of them. If something does not cheer me up off to EBay or swap meet it goes
4. Shower – golden Iris shower oil. This one has replaced the Rose jam for me.
5. Looking forward to the end of Feb. almost all of my daughter’ friends had birthdays for the last 6 weeks- literally 2 birthdays per weekend!! I am honestly exhausted
I’d include Amouage Beloved, SSS Tabac Aurea, and La Via del Profumo Mecca Balsam as comfort scents. L’AP Fleur d’Oranger is a joyous scent.
I’m testing layering Mugler Cologne and Prada Infusion d’Iris (thinking ahead to summer and the need for cool scents). Iris soap musk. I’m looking for something more liquid-limpid than that.
1. Malin+Goetz Petitgrain. It’s an instant mood lifter.
2. ELDO’s Putain des Palaces
3. Lubin’s Gin Fizz. It’s like walking around in a little golden cloud of champagne bubbles.
4. Anything citrus really.
5. Our recently adopted kitten is using our indoor clothesline as a path to get on top of a cupboard and it’s the most adorable high wire act 😉 especially if she slips and swings like a little trapeze artist.
Your kitty trapeze artist sounds adorable.
Ultimate comfort–haven’t found it yet, but would love to. For those times when you just wish you could curl up in a bottle of perfume…
Unusual comfort–rose scents and chypres, I think because they remind me of my mother.
Cheery–Azuree. The wild blue yonder in a bottle.
Body/bath–Rainbath
Non-fragrance–Cats. A never-ending source of comfort and joy.
I love Rainbath.
I’ve always found the scent of my cats to be immensely comforting (along with the cats themselves)!

5. tell us something else (anything!) comforting or cheering.
– Well, about an hour after I got the offer for the Germany job yesterday, I got another recruiter looking to put me forward for a role in Cambridge, so now I may have a credible ‘plan B’ if Germany falls through. And since the Düsseldorf thing won’t start until the week after next at the earliest, TOMK and I are off for another week in Málaga to catch up with estate agents (realtors) and give our lawyer a poke in the ribs so we keep up the momentum on house hunting. :^)
Enjoy Málaga!
(is there such a thing as Málaga ice cream in Málaga? With raisins and, maybe, rum?)
Hey schaf, yes there is! Moscatel raisins and the sweet wine of Malaga :^)
Several places do a sugar-free Turron-flavour ice cream, which is a favourite of mine. And most places do at least a lemon sorbet (more flavours in high season) which suits the vegan requirements of The Other Mr Koenigsberg. :^D
Thanks for explaining this, Koenigsberg — now I have more technical knowledge about one of my favorite desserts from childhood! Wouldn’t you say that ice cream is a perfect example of super fragrant foods?
1. I don’t have an Ultimate Comfort Scent. So many variables make up what is comforting at any given time that it is nearly impossible to have only one. And I’m OK with that.
2. Unusual Comfort Scent: Orange Sanguine. And the scent of hay drying in late spring/early summer. The second item reminds me of my dad, who I sorely miss.
3. Knowing that I will always have new perfumes to sniff is an instant mood lifter!
4. Lush’s Rose Jam (you bunch of enablers!), and the Pacifica shower gels I got before they dc’ed them. A thank you to whoever told me to grab another bottle of the Pacifica Persian Rose body butter whenever I saw it!
5. Cheering news on my end: this was my husband’s first week of work in almost 4 months. I feel like several thousand pounds of weight has fallen off my shoulders as a result. I think I am even standing a little straighter, too! Couple that with a couple days of sunshine, and things are looking up!
Congrats to your husband! I know exactly how you feel, and I bet all your perfumes feel comforting today 🙂
Thank you, schaf!
Hooray…and see you tomorrow!
I’ll be there!
Happy for you that things are looking up, Jalapeno !
Cheers !! 😀
Thanks, Bear!
Really happy for your number 5! Stand tall Jalapeño!
Thank you, lillyjo! There are times now where I feel like I could float.
Loving number 3 and especially number 5! 🙂
Thank you! It’s a relief, for sure.
That’s great cheering news. Congrats!
There’s been a lot of happy dancing here this week.
1. Guerlain Cuir Beluga
2. Chanel No. 19 EDP, Aftelier Bergamoss, Oriza LeGrande Chypre Mousse, Aftelier Vanilla Smoke Parfum, SSS To Dream, really, too many to list
3. Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant, 28 La Pausa, No. 19 EDP, No. 5 EDT, Dior Addict
4. Solstice Scents Creamy Whipped Soap – any scent. OMG
5. Family, biological and virtual
What, pray tell, is whipped soap?
BDSM soap ? LOL 😉
The Solstice website does not have any info.
LOL! I first found Solstice Scents looking for Pumpkin Spice perfume. The whipped soap may just have become available in October for Fall / Winter and it looks like they’ve run out! I am on my third 8 oz. jar and have 6 back up jars which should last me through mid-fall this year, just in time to stock up again. If one uses a pouff (but I don’t), a jar will last longer. The scents are more harvest / gourmand and oh so good.
Thanks, hajusuuri !!
Hey, Bear, I used to make a lot of soap. Whipped soap is made with a high concentration of hard oils or butters (coconut, palm oil, shea butter) at low temperature and then air is incorporated to make a lightweight bar. However, I think what Solstice Scents is calling “whipped soap” is what soapmakers call “cream soap.” Cream soap has a texture like cold cream or whipped cream and won’t hold a bar shape. You scoop it out into your hand or on a sponge or loofa to use it. Hajusuuri, is that what you have in your jars?
You got it, Foxbins. It has the texture close to whipped cream sprayed from a can. The proper way to use it it to scoop out a little and use a bath pouff or loofah.
Sounds like Nutella.
🙂
You really know how to ruin things, Fresca. 🙂
LOL. That’s exactly why I disliked Nutella for many years. I’ve come around, though 😉
If it came in a Nutella scent, I would buy it 🙂
Thanks for even more info, foxbins !
Very interesting.
🙂
😀
That was a good joke. And thanks to you, I now also learned about that soap.
Mmm… yes on Cuir Beluga! So comforting.
1. Guerlain Vol De Nuit
2. Iris scents, including SL ISM and Guerlain Apres l’Ondee
3. Frederic Malle Lys Mediterranee: salty heady summer!
4. i am not sure if it cheers me up per se, but I love Molton Brown Gingerlily.
5. My human and my dog. Classical music, esp the Beethoven piano sonatas recording by Gilels.
YEA! Another Team VdN! 🙂
I don’t know if comforting is the right word, but I find iris to be the ultimate calming scent.
I agree and I’ll throw sedate and serene out there for it.
Oh, Lys Mediterranee! Everything is right in the world when I wear that one!
1. My go to comfort scent is Casmir. My friend gifted it to me a few years ago. Whenever I wear it, I text her and say, I’m wearing Casmir today because I wanted to feel loved:) 2. Cabochard, because it feels very grounding. 3 Commodity Mimosa is SO cheerful and bright. 4. Josie Maran body products feel and smell decadent plus truly moisturize. 5. After many years of searching, I finally found an organization that is able to give my autistic daughter the services she needs. They start coming next month. I am relieved and excited.
Great news re: your #5!
Whoohoo for finding a great program for your daughter!
#5 Happy for you and your daughter!
Wonderful news, lillyjo!
Great about #5. My best friend has a severely autistic daughter on the less functional end of the scale. It has been a tremendous worry, as she went through her teens and into adulthood, to work out how to help her into a safe environment that also gives her some independence. Hopefully in a few months it looks like there will a space in a house shared by 4 or 5 young autistic adults and a responsible adult.
Fabulous!
1. Hanae Mori Butterfly–probably due to the sandalwood; one of the very first “advanced” perfumes I ever bought.
2. SL L’orpheline–just very calm and peaceful.
3. Amouage Honour Woman–I get an apple-pear bright and happy note.
4. I’ve treasured for a long time some Eau de Merveilles shower gel. Wonderful stuff! Great for layering.
5. My beautiful new silver-gray kitten Teddy is such a love and is fitting into my cat family very nicely. I threw a catnip party for them last night and everyone had a marvelous time!
It’s so wonderful when your new kitty gets along! A catnip party sounds like fun 😉
ConCATulations on your new baby!
Hurrah for new kitty! Also happy to hear that he/she gets along with your cat family.

So many wonderful #5s, NST !

Enjoy! Can’t wait to hear about the perfume room when it’s done!
3 days! I’m proud of you! And I CAN’T WAIT for the perfume room. Although I will never see it in real life, I might be as excited for it as you are!
Yesterday’s SOTD was L’Artisan “Seville a l’Aube”.
Top: petitgrain and olive blossom;
Mid: lavender, orange blossom, beeswax, tobacco and jasmine;
Base: benzoin and olibanum.
Well, I should by rights have liked this one better than I did. Oh, it’s fine, and if a bottle fell into my hands I wouldn’t refuse it, but it was ‘like’ and not ‘love’.
Today’s is .vero.profumo “Onda” in EdP, from an FB.
Top: bergamot, citron, mandarin, ginger, coriander, basil and passionfruit;
Mid: iris, ylang-ylang and honey;
Base: vetiver, musk, patchouli and cedar.
When I was out earlier today in cold windy conditions, this was like having an invisible extra scarf. :^)
Sorry you were disappointed in Sal’A. I’m not a big Duchaufour fan and so had such low expectations for this that I never even tested it until last Fall. It was a big love! Go figure! 😉
Hmm, I can’t really claim sympathy for being disappointed: at this stage anything I don’t love is automatically a relief for the wallet. :^D
Sal’A is one of those rare fragrances that gives me headache (and I did some serious testing to make sure that was true … the results were painful) .
Ouch! ;^)
1. Ultimate comfort scent: it is way premature to decide this, but I’ll throw it out there anyway…SL Un Bois Vanille. I’ve only sampled it a couple of times, but it seems like the perfect vanilla. Not too sweet!
2. Not sure yet.
3. This one is easy…Orange Sanguine. It always brings me out of the gloom.
4. Another easy one…the Yuzu shower gel from Shikai. I don’t know how many bottles of this I’ve gone through over the years. It hits that sweet spot between citrus and floral that I love.
Does anyone have suggestions for yuzu-prominent fragrances?
Y’all have a great rest-of-your-weekend!
Do try Diptyque Oyedo, it is sort of an earthy yuzu scent, odd but I love it!
I definitely must try it too! It has so many fans, and sounds really unusual.
Thanks for the tip! On my ever-lengthening sample wish list it goes. 🙂
Diptyques Oyedo; , Orange , yuzu and lemon, lime thyme and woodsy notes, I can’t personally recommend it, as I still haven’t tried it, but it has lots of great reviews, the one in The Guide is a good one! Let me know what u think if u do try it, it will spur me on to try it!
Will do, and thanks for looking up the note description!
I forgot #5. The mockingbirds are back! It is so fun to hear all their different chirps. They even sing late at night, which is so cool to me.
1) L’Air d’Rien, Miller Harris & Heure Exquise
2) Epic Woman, No. 22, Dzonka
3)Philosykos, Eau des Merveilles, Fille de Berlin, Azemour les Oranges, so many!
4) Roger et Gallet Bois de Oranges, Rose Jam shower gel.
The Body Shops Vanilla chai body butter is so delicious and comforting!
Forgot #5- spotting the first signs of spring with my little ones, and looking forward to visiting the spring lambs on our country walks soon!
Vanilla chai body butter sounds lovely.
LFdB is on my dresser waiting to be tried for the first time. I’ve read a lot about it; good to know it can be uplifting.
Lazy Sunday, hanging out with the dogs wearing Bottega Veneta, but I may need to go upstairs and spray on some Portrait of a Lady. I have been on a rose/patchouli bender for the past few days, spraying PoaL, Gris Montaigne and Voleur de Roses repeatedly.
PoaL is one of my very top favourites, I haven’t tried the other roses, but I’ve just sampled some of the SSS ones, which are lovely.
How interesting, I also felt Voleur de Roses is perfect for the weather in SoCal right now!
You found some perfume-wearing dogs? That is awesome! 😉
hee-hee, and puppy toes smell nice all the time. 🙂
You’ve inspired me. It’s Voleur de Roses for me today.
I wore a small-dab the other day and enjoyed it. Now it’s time for a more generous application. VdR is rather captivating, and I thought I didn’t like patchouli.
Uh-oh.
I have tons, happy to send you a decant if you like!
So kind! Once I get to the bottom of my little sample I may come calling . . . 🙂
I just noticed this Valentines week post on pheromones, etc., in the Broadly section of vice.com (which I hasten to add is mostly a new, sports, and entertainment site). Alert: scented vibrators!
https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/follow-your-nose-the-science-behind-love-sex-and-scent
And double alert: armpit-sniffing parties!!
LoL, eeewwwwww!
Whatever happened to a quick cuppa at Starbucks?!?
Late to the weekend party due to extreme laziness and comfort. 🙂
1) Safran Troublant is probably my ultimate comfort scent. For me it’s like a thick, custard-soft cashmere blanket that I can coccoon myself in whenever the world feels barbed and cold.
2. This was a recent discovery, but I’ve found Ella very comforting — I think because it reminds me of my mother’s 1000. (1000 is also comforting, but it makes my heart ache).
3. Any citrus cologne, and various roses. Rose Flash always makes me happy; Galop makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world, which can be cheering. Oh, and The Pour Une Ete, because it conjures warm springtime, my favorite time of year, anytime I wear it.
4. Philosophy Cinnamon Buns shower gel for comfort, and Korres Jasmine for cheer.
5. Cf: above reference to warm springtime. It’s coming! It’s coming! Wildflowers and hummy bugs and soft breezes and weather that warrants iced rosé are right around the corner!
Iced rosé? Is that like a wine slushy? Sounds divine!
Nothing so fancy, just rosé with ice cubes like they do it in the south of France. But a rosé slushy sounds so lovely!
Home safe after a sniffing smörgåsbord with Hajusuuri. I think I might have added something to the full bottle wishlist today… a paper strip of 24 Faubourg was a surprise hit with Mr. Jalapeno. Decisions, decisions.
It was nice meeting you, Jalapeño! I say go for 24 Fauborg since it seems to be a hit with your hubby!
L’EAU D’HIVER TO ALL!!!!!
