Zoologist Civet ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 26 December 2016 11 Comments

Zoologist Civet

Canadian indie line Zoologist has launched Civet, a new unisex fragrance.

As the sun sinks over the dense tropical forest, civets emerge warily from the thickets. Under a carpet of narcotic flower blossoms, a smattering of coffee berries peppers the ground. The moist air is heavy with mossy aromas that penetrate every crevice, but the musky scent of the civets dominates; their marked territory daring one to enter at one’s own risk.

Zoologist Civet pays homage to* the age-old ingredient, civet, as well as chypre perfumes of bygone days – perfumes that refused to be intimidated by raw, alluring, animalistic musks. Civet is a moody and complex brew entwined in mystery. It opens with a spicy floral accord, threaded through with dark coffee tones. Slowly it prowls forward, unraveling base notes of leather, moss and vanilla that combines with distinctive civet musk to create a bewildering, sophisticated scent with the promise of a sultry nighttime rendezvous.

Civet was developed by perfumer Shelley Waddington of En Voyage. The notes include bergamot, black pepper, lemon, orange, spices, tarragon, carnation, frangipani, heliotrope, hyacinth, linden blossom, tuberose, ylang, balsams, civet accord, coffee, incense, labdanum, musks, oakmoss, resins, russian leather accord, vanilla, vetiver and wood.

Zoologist Civet is available now at Niche Essence in Canada, $110 USD for 60 ml.

FYI, looking up perfume reviews recently, I happened to come across this blog by Zoologist founder Victor Wong:

    https://sillyage.wordpress.com/

And here is an interview with him (by parfumo.com but on the Zoologist website):

One thing I noticed in reading through his blog is that he collects Le Labo perfumes.

Thanks for the links! And interesting, Le Labo would not have been my first guess.

Was lucky enough to get a small travel size of this last October to review, and I must say that it’s my favorite of the Zoologist range so far! If you love vintage scents a la Arpege or My Sin, you’re gonna’ love this one! Shelly and Victor really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one!!

Can’t wait to try this, and it’s so seldom to feel that about new perfumes!

All samples available direct on their website…just ordered mine. Interested in this line for awhile now…and Civet made me bite the bullet (in the full sample set)!
