Tokyo Milk has launched Pretty Rotten and Novacaine, two new additions to the Dark Collection.
Pretty Rotten (shown) ~ "Ripe with seductive, blooming Queen Amber rose and sweetened with just the right bite of Ambrosia apple, Pretty Rotten is a romantic and dark fairytale fragrance. Find yourself lost on a path of mossy forest greens through notes of leaves and boughs. Where will the journey take you?"
Novacaine ~ "This surreal fragrance shatters preconception with notes of Thai pepper that add fire to smoky frankincense. Pretty, punk, untamed, and unpredictable, exotic floral notes of vanilla orchid warm slowly in the background, while crushed ginger seduces with spice. What remains in the after-burn is a sense of heat and excitement—hinting of things to come."
Tokyo Milk Pretty Rotten and Novacaine are available at Sephora, in 47 ml Eau de Parfum.

Ha – I read this as “Dark Pretty” and “Rotten &Novacaine”. Although, the names are actually weird enough even when read correctly. Novacaine? Can’t say the name draws me in, although the notes might.
Hey, I like yours better!
Tokyo Milk is a little too weird for me. I find the names of their offerings too off putting for me to even try anymore of their perfumes. Arsenic was enough for me.
The names are weird, but the early scents weren’t so much. Don’t know if they’ve changed, I really haven’t kept up.
They do have more than just this dark line. They have a few other series that are a completely different aesthetic and might be more your speed (i.e. names like “Sea & Sky”, “Waltz”, etc).
I think I would get the Novacaine as a gift for my dentist!
Ew. One of my most detested smells is that of the dentist’s office. Why would you want to name a perfume something that people have such negative associations with? What remains is “hinting of things to come” … once the numbness wears off? Is it like liquid roofies for the skin?
Jeez…I read it as Dark, pretty rotten, and Novacaine, all of which bring up terrible associations individually, let alone together! And it makes me gag.
The first one sounds interesting, but I don’t know…..
Maybe I’ve just been watching too much RuPaul’s Drag Race, but I think Nova Caine would be an awesome drag name. lol
I like this series and think these new ones sound interesting enough to me that I’ll probably give them a sniff if/when I come across them.
LOL! I now have a name for my imaginary girl rock band!
Yes! It would be a pretty great band name too. 😀
????
I think they’ve done some good dark chocolate and tea note scents: Bittersweet, Bulletproof, Everything and Nothing and Tainted Love all struck me as pretty interesting for low-price scents. They also tend to have good lasting power. Definitely not ‘elegant’ scents but then not as edgy as the names would suggest, either.
Agreed, I like Tainted Love and I also own Excess. At the price point, they’re relatively interesting but wearable.
I’ve seen and tested these at Sephora, seems like a while ago, so surprised to hear they’re new. I found them both weird and a bit jangly. Weirder then the others in the series. I think I preferred the Novacaine as the PR did smell like a red apple on the verge of rotting. I like weird, but something about them just seemed discordant.
I recently received a sample of Pretty Rotten in my Birchbox…really didn’t like it. I could definitely smell the apple, and it did indeed have an air of one that was just past ripe, but the most unpleasant aspect of the fragrance was what, to me, smelled like a walloping baby-powder note. Don’t see that listed in the notes, but that was overall impression: slightly rotten apples mixed with baby powder. I actually do like quite a few of the line’s offerings (their Cherry Bourbon lip balm is amazing!) but this one was just…yuck. Haven’t tried Novacaine, (does it bother anyone else that it’s spelled incorrectly lol? Isn’t it Novocaine? Or maybe the misspelling is deliberate!) but agree that both are awful names for fragrances.
