Happy Tuesday, and happy birthday to George Raymond Richard Martin! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Lolita Lempicka L'Eau en Blanc, from Annick Menardo. I smell darned pretty. Tea at the moment is a Ceylon from Tea Bank Estate.
Reminder: on 9/23, wear a perfume by Annick Menardo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the One-Handed Tea Set from Scott Henderson ("The One-Handed Tea Set is a porcelain teapot with two tea cups that store conveniently in the teapot’s fill opening, eliminating the need for a tray- a ‘tray-less’ tea set. A unique cup holder integrates a stainless steel tea infuser."), $30.
I love that tea pot!
One of my Japanese friends recommended a tea to me yesterday called Mugicha-I will have to find a Japanese grocery store to find it. She recommend one to me-but I can’t remember.
I am in La Fille de Berlin and wearing a red Toffee Apple lipstick to match.
I see the sun peaking out.
I meant peeking..lol..I guess it could be peaking. HA
I drink mugicha all the time!
It’s barley tea. You can have it plain (I usually do) or with honey and lemon. It can also be served hot or cold. I usually made a large pitcher of it cold and when I want it warm I’ll throw it in the microwave – usually in the winter. Caffeine free and has a nice nutty flavor to it. My husband calls it my popcorn tea.
I will have to try that kind of tea, thanks for the explanation of it
It’s really good for when you want a cold drink in the summer that doesn’t have caffeine in it but you want something more than just water. Same for the winter time when you need a warm drink but need to be careful about caffeine consumption at night.
That sounds delicious!
If you like tea and nutty flavors, then you’ll love mugicha.
It’s also great for when you have a stomachache- really soothing and calming!
Yes, it’s a natural diuretic that’s very easy on the system.
Thank you! She was telling me she drinks it cold in the summer..It was very nice to see her since its only once every 2 years..
Where do you purchase your tea?
Cold mugicha is the bomb in the summer. I usually drink it when I come in from my runs.
I get it from the closest asian food market to me. It’s called Assi Plaza and it’s about 20 minutes away from my house.
There are lots of different brands of barley tea and depending on what kind you get can be the difference between a Lipton tea bag (crushed leaves) and a Mighty Leaf tea bag (predominantly whole leaves) if you know what I mean. Some brands have more crushed style barely versus whole barley pieces. The brand I get is more on the whole pieces side and organic.
https://www.amazon.com/Chung-Jung-Organic-Barley-Teabags/dp/B0078Z1YO6/ref=pd_lpo_325_lp_t_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QXD3HR32S3CXEPJZ7WV2
That’s the brand I use and that one pouch will last you for quite a long time. Barley tea bags are much bigger than regular tea bags and are meant to steep in large pitchers of water. One barley tea bag works for 2 liters of water. You can cold brew or hot brew. Hot brews tend to be a little stronger, so you can take out the tea bag after ten minutes. If cold brewing, just throw it in the pitcher, cover with water and put in the fridge for two hours. I’ve actually left mine overnight and not had any problems with flavor at all. I don’t recommend squeezing the bag though when done steeping, it can make the water a little murky.
Thanks-we have some Japanese grocery stores here and I believe they sell this. I just asked my Japanese friend you recommended the tea-and she directed me to the store..
I appreciate the tea talk and your input!
You smell great. Love the way you coordinated your fragrance and lipstick.
Love LFdB! You smell very pretty and like the lipstick combo. I’ve decided to make this a week of roses.
Sounds like a wonderful week.
Ah..maybe I will do the same..
Hey scent twin, we smell gorgeous!
You smell great! The thought of lipstick to go with the gorgeous color of the juice makes me smile–excellent idea!
L’air de Rien by Miller Harris. I smell like a misty day and waiting skin.
Such a glorious smell.
You do smell glorious! My SOTD reminds me a bit in feel of L’Air, but less wistful.
Love that one!
U smell wonderful, one of my top 10, maybe even top 5.
Le Labo Gaiac 10 for me today. This is pretty wonderful. I waffle on this one when the city exclusives are available, but hen I think I could buy two of the CdG x Monocle’s for the same price with change left over for an ELdO. And then buy nothing.
I am drinking the last of some MF Pleine Lune that I found cleaning out the tea cabinet. It is more than a year old and has lost some of its oomph, but it is still pretty good.
I love Pleine Lune.
That whole line of reasoning about perfume buying (or lack thereof) sounds so familiar!
My SOTD is Terry Gunzburg Rose Infernale. From a sample, didn’t spray enough of it, so I can barely detect it now. It’s beautiful but it needs a more generous application.
Tea is Earl Grey Goût Russe
Pass a cup of tea, please 🙂
I so would if I could. Mind you I’d rather pass you a cup of Sweet Golden Grey or Earl Grey Odessa Bio. The first is a gourmand twist on the good old Earl Grey theme with an excellent Yunnan used as a base, and the second a rather spicy interpretation on an Assam base.
Rose Infernale is very light and ethereal on me. I tend to spray a lot and purposely get some on my clothes in the process so it lasts longer.
It lasts well, but wears very close to the skin. It’s very good, but I’m not getting any. I’m saving up for Rossy de Palma.
I can’t remember whether you’re in the US or not, but if you are, Sephora carries it and will be having their 20% sale in Oct or Nov.
I’m in Europe actually, but thanks for letting me know.
What is this 20% sale (asking for a friend, of course)?
It’s for Sephora VIB members.
I’m in the last precious drops of Iris Nazarena from my sample today. Hoping I might get some more for my birthday coming up (if the hubs notices it’s on my wishlist).
You smell beautiful.
Good luck, hope he notices!
After reading about the up coming Chanel 5 flanker I pulled out Shalimar initial
Nice! My favorite Shalimar flanker is the Vanille flankers..
Marc Jacobs Cotton (new version). Like a fresh starched shirt dried in the sun although my mind harkens back a bit to Love’s Baby Soft. But just a tiny bit.
Sounds wonderful. If you’re in the US, who carries it?
It is pretty great. I grabbed mine at Ulta but I believe Macy’s on line has it as well. Tomorrow I plan on wearing Cucumber. Like an icy cold Cucumber Vodka Martini. ????
Apoteker Tepe The Peradam. I smell mostly rooty orris and sandalwood. It would go well with a chunky sweater, which I could casually drape over my bag today, because it’s going to be warm 😉 .
You smell great! Anabasis is my favorite from that line but The Paradam is a close second.
I’m with you although might reverse!
I want to try more of that line, I have the Peradam but want to try the rest.
I think the original four are all solid, if varying in their potency and complexity: The Peradam, Anabasis, The Holy Mountain, and the Flood one (complex but light, whereas THM is simple but more potent). The two recent ones were not so successful, alas, at least not for me.
You smell great!
Thanks. I like Anabasis too. I have dabbers of some of the others that I will revisit.
Very busy, and finding support in Heure Exquise.
Such a wonderful and indeed comforting fragrance!
You smell very beautiful! Heure Exquise = love.
I really enjoyed wearing HE yesterday, and this evening, thank u so much for introducing me to it, such an exquisite perfume. Especially wonderful as the nights start drawing in, I think.
I decided in the shower this morning to make this a week of roses, since I’ve been neglecting them too long. SOTD is vintage Guerlain Nahema edp, which is tied for HG rose with OJ Ta’if. This will stay with me all day and I have a looonng day ahead of me.
What a great idea, I’ll have to try a rose week when it cools off a bit. You smell fabulous, Nahema is one of my favorites too 🙂
Normally I wear roses a lot during the summer, but this year I didn’t. It’s nice to get reacquainted with all my fav rose fragrances. I love roses. Nahema is very special too!
Beautiful. Now you’ve got me thinking, I’m also doing a rose week- Heure Exquise, Nahema PDT yesterday, Fille de Berlin today. I adore OJ Taif too, I’ve run out of my sample, and dreaming about a FB!
What. Does HG stand for?
“holy grail” (for makeup, skin care, etc.)
I bet vintage Nahema is heavenly!
Parfums Quartana Hemlock which is hitting the spot today. Mostly a musky vanilla with some interesting twists: crushed leaves and a hint of rum and vinyl. I’m really loving it more and more.
vanilla and rum..yum!
It’s not really all that boozy but it’s yum anyway.
That sounds very intriguing!
The whole line seems really fun and a little quirky. I only sampled a few but I liked what I tried and want to try more of them.
SOTD is Kelly Caleche EDP.
Lovely! I wore KC last week and enjoyed it a lot. It’s better on me than the new Galop.
I don’t wear it enough. I have not tried the Galop as yet.
I wore KC EDP last night. I have a mini that went ignored for a long time but I really fell in love with it this summer.
Nice. This is one of a few perfumes I’ve gotten compliments on!
Ninfeo Mio jumped out at me this morning, so that’s what I’m wearing.
You smell so good.
You smell great!
Lolita Lempicka L today. I am so ready for fall and we are having an unseasonable heat wave, boo, but I like the way heat brings out the salty caramel in L.
Love!
We are “enjoying” that heat wave here, too. My husband has a horrible cold so I’m under orders to bake cookies. It’s already hot in here so I will be wearing nothing heavier than a dose of Herba Fresca to start and maybe some Philosophy Fresh Cream later. Can’t remember who recommended the Fresh Cream but I finally got around to trying it (multiple times thanks to my many Ulta and Sephora trips lately) and decided it’s too cheap and cheerful not to have in my collection.
Sorry about your sick hubby. Fresh Cream is so good. If you get the chance, I recommend the body cream.
Cookies instead of chicken soup!
Chicken soup was last night. That’s how I know he’s actually sick because he usually turns up his nose at soup. The cookies are for emergency backup healing 😉
Menardo week, day 2. Givenchy’s first oriental for men, Xeryus Rouge. It’s surprisingly bright for an oriental, and almost fizzy!
Glad someone else is doing a week of Menardo!
There are sooooo many good ones!
Me too! (Both glad and doing it)
🙂
I’m wearing Cristalle and Charlotte Tilbury Amazing Grace lipstick (following Lovetosmellgood’s example here). They are a good match, I think – both polished but accessible and perfect for work.
Nice combination! I have been meaning to try her lipsticks
They are definitely worth trying. I bought two mattes and even though I’m not a fan of that finish, I still like the lipsticks.
Nice! BTW, I wanted to ask yesterday but got here late, what our some of your favorite violets? I love the Violet in Misia, dislike Lipstick Rose, love I Miss Violet. Trying a bunch of others now.
I love Heeley Iris de Nuit. Vintage Jolie Madame is also lovely.
Oh, I like the Heeley too, although sometimes it doesn’t something weird to my stomach. Thanks for the suggestions!
I love Bois de Violette and Apres l’Ondee, really like SSS Wood Violet, vintage Jolie Madame, AG La Violette, like Balenciaga Paris, TF Black Violet, Misia, I Miss Violet, SSS Voile Violette, Arquiste Alexandr and I’m sure some others that I’ve forgotten. Not a fan of Lipstick Rose either.
Many thanks!
Love Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks. Bond Girl and Very Victoria are terrific long lasting nude variations. And the chiselled cut of the lipstick is great for contouring the cupids bow. Will wear Bind Girl today but doubt that I’ll be very polished…more like Bind Girl after the third round with the evil henchmen.
I’m generally not a matte kind of girl, but I do wear these and like you, I think the shape is great. I have Amazing Grace and Red Carpet Red, but I’ve got my eye on Very Victoria, too. And maybe Glastonberry…
Summer is hanging on here, yay!. Wearing Chance eau Vive. Going to stop at Macy’s on my lunch and retry No. 5 L’eau.
No SOTD yet. Can’t decide and I’ll be going swimming in a little bit anyway. Really wanting to try the new No5 l’Eau.
And can I get an AMEN for Celestial Seasonings going back to their traditional artwork on their boxes? I hope they have added back more quotations, too.
YES AMEN x 100 gazillion. I love their artwork and the new box non-art was so boring, so hard to see in the sea of tea boxes on the shelf. Whoever made that decision to change to the boring box calculated badly. Good for them for changing back!
I wish they’d bring back the original formula for the echinacea cold care tea. It had anise or something that had a licorice flavor. Very comforting.
The licorice flavor could have been fennel. It’s in a lot of tummy-soother teas, and I would bet there’s one out there somewhere that has echinacea in it as well.
I liked Grandma’s Tummy Mint, but I can make do with Sleepytime.
EL Beautiful AND Lush Lust – not playing around, here. It’s rainy and gray, but I have my pink umbrella and my pink perfume to brighten everything up. Have a great day, everyone!
Wow 🙂 I was making a decant of Lush yesterday and it was quite an experience. I like it a lot, though.
I tested this at the store a while back and was overwhelmed by the smell of hominy (dried corn). Am I alone in this?
Wowsers! You are POTENT.
Wow! Your aura will cut through the gray day!
Congrats on being very GB or GH!!! Bravo!
I though I was spraying on Rose Musc today by SSS this morning but accidentally sprayed Shangri la by HIram Green. They both came in almost identical black travel sprayers. It’s probably not what I would have chosen for such a humid day but I’m enjoying it. I’m curious if anyone else sees a similarity between Shangri la and Mitsouko? It reminds me of a sweet Mitsouko without moss.
Mitsouko is a bit stronger and powerful on me. I found Shangri La more peachy
Yes, I agree. Just a similarity but it’s no wonder that Shangri La was an instant love for me.
I love your description of your lipstick today. It sounds perfect for this time of year. I am wearing a Guerlain Kiss Kiss lipstick in a pretty rose shade but I can’t recall the name.
I love the kiss kiss line..I went through 2 of them last year both rose colors
Not a bad mistake???? You smell lovely.
Thanks Elisa!
Cool rainy fall morning: a good day to be in CSP Vanille Abricot.
You smell pretty! That is such a comfort scent for me!
It’s just about the ultimate comfort scent. So simple, so cozy.
1) Happy Tuesday. I must remember to pack my earphones in my purse for the mornings, because dear goodness the stupidest woman in Portland Metro got on the shuttle bus today and would not shut up. The commute struggle is real, guys. ( opens tabs for electric hybrid cars on computer)
2) Am in Coromandel and L’Oreal Liya Red Lipstick in honor of George RR Martin. I think Daenerys would wear this combo as she set sail for Westoros.
I hope your day improves but at least you smell great!
My day has improved with coffee, an egg biscuit and breathing! And thanks- Coromandel is so lovely!
commutes + e-books = happiness
the time turns into a little present for yourself
We are both in red lipsticks today..red lippy twins
Sorry about your commute-If I began to even talk about how NYC subways and vent about what life was like on the NYC metro during not one, but two pregnancies Robin will probably kick me off. So I will stop there.
My imagination is wild, but I am also observant, and big ups to moms who endure commuting on public transport..with the public!
Red lipstick is a weakness- so many textures and subtle shades. The L’Oreal red in Liya and Julianne is very glam, and perfect for perking up a tired face!
I will have to look for those!
The one I am in today is from shiseido.
Shiesedo makes really nice cosmetics. I’ve been very impressed with everything I’ve tried.
me too..and I they are expensive but not as much as there “queen” line Clé de Peau Beauté
I love L’eau en Blanc!
I’m sampling Divine l’Infante, which reminds me of a sheerer, quieter Parfum d’Ete.
I love L’Infante!
Good morning Y’all!
SOTD: Versace Versence.
Smelly news: Stopped by Ulta last night, and smelled two of the BEST perfumes I’ve smelled in a long while. Finally smelled Angel Muse, which is absolutely GORGEOUS. The 1st couple of minutes, it’s way too much going on, but it settles down quickly into a beautiful woody gourmand. This has moved up to the top of my wish list!
2nd beauty is SJP’s Stash. WOW!! Absolutely stunning!! I couldn’t leave without a rollerball of this one. SJP has done it again. Sexy stuff! Highly recommended that you try this one soon! 🙂
I gotta get myself over to Ulta and get some Stash!
I agree that Muse IS gorgeous! I have strolled past it at the Macy’s counter and sprayed myself a couple of times and enjoyed it for the rest of the day. It definitely feels like a cool weather scent and maybe a full bottle is in order as fall gets into full swing.
Will have to try Stash now too!
One of the Ulta gals and I chatted for a few minutes about SJP…..I was telling her that SJP was one of very few celebrities that is the nose behind her scents. Stash is really what she had in mind 10 years ago, but Lovely was the “compromise” back then. I have a bottle of Lovely, have owned Covet in the past, and even bought a bottle of SJP NYC (but gave it away when it didn’t suit me). Stash is just excellent!
I absolutely would have bought Muse, had a smaller (more affordable) size been available. (I was in a shopping mood!). Maybe I’ll find a mini size at some point. If not, it’s going on my Christmas wish list! 🙂
Agree with you about Muse. The first few minutes are a bit too much fruity stuff going on. But then after awhile, the good part kicks in and lasts.
I wish I could say I loved Stash, but it didn’t work for me.
Good morning! And agreed to both- am very tempted by Stash especially in a rollerball.
I’m anxious to try both of these.
I just tried Stash and thought “wow, this is serious perfume” as I stood in Ulta trying to figure it out.
Oddly, Stash really reminded me of Hiram Green Voyage. To my nose Stash was more about citrus/woody while Voyage was citrus/leather, but there was some definite overlap in the notes, the depth, and the feeling – very emphatic statements in those bottles.
I finally got a chance to try Stash (and promptly bought a rollerball) and it reminded me of the base in Pear + Olive but with spices. The texture is the same, if that makes sense. It’s very linear but surprisingly pleasing to wear even in hot weather.
Dressed all in black with Chanel Stromboli lipstick (a sheer wine colour) whilst wearing L’heure Bleue. I must be imagining things but there are times – after rather a lot of spraying, I admit – when I smell a little bit of leather in it. Maybe my generous dosage knocks my sense of scent off-center.
Stromboli on my to try list..
it’s very pretty but I’m not sure it’s not discontinued. It’s an Aqualumiere and I believe they replaced that line with the Rouge Coco Shines. There might be a good dupe among those!
That lipstick sounds fabulous, must try!
You look great, and I am sure you smell fabulous!
You smell fabulous.
Reeking havoc in a spritz of Guerlain’s Habit Rouge Dress Code on the left arm, and what was supposed to be a spritz of MFK’s Ciel de Gum on the right arm but turned out to be an ejaculation instead.
Holly, you REALLY have to keep in mind I work in a shared office and am no doubt considered dangerously volatile already. Spontaneous bursts of laughter do nothing to discourage that impression.
Beg pardon! 😉
I’ll never be able to see “Ciel de Gum” the same way again!
How is Dress Code? I was tempted by it in the Guerlain sale, but didn’t end up getting it.
This is my first time wearing Dress Code! Initially I thought it skewed a bit masculine for my tastes, but after about twenty minutes that bit disappeared (whatever it was) and now it’s a rather muted dusty rose with leather and dry spices and the vanilla and tonka are making themselves known. I’m really liking it!
It sounds tempting. Thanks!
LOL!!
🙂
Hahaha!!Giggles all the way.Robin should do a “comment/autocorrect of the day”!Today you win the comments section!!????????
My boss just peeked over my shoulder to red made me giggle out loud. His words? “Context is everything!”
Oh, that is just so wrong! ????
Bal d’afrique today. This one always feels so effortless.
oh yum! I love bal d’afrique, it’s so lush and pretty!
I finally got to try it a few weeks ago. Lovely and lush, yet ethereal.
I enjoy many Byredo’s, but this is my fav!
Wearing La Fille de Berlin and drinking Barry’s Gold Blend Irish Tea. La Fille is my most recent purchase – I love rose and just had to make a space in the cabinet for this. Barry’s tea is the best breakfast tea ever.
I am inspired by AnnS above to have a rose week and am off to locate all my roses. SSS Rose Musc, Ce Soir ou Jamais, Une Rose Chypree, Nahema, Drole de Rose…. Looking forward to this already. Want to recommend Weleda Wild Rose shower gel which is beautiful.
Twins!
Yay!! Except I can’t decide on a lipstick so only have on Vaseline Rosy Lips. What brand is your Toffee Apple?
Shiseido, its $$ compared to drug store brands but its very pigmented and doesn’t pull on the lips when you put it on. Vaseline rosy lips sound very chic with your la fille de berlin 🙂
Shiseido is very hard to find in the UK. I will look out for it as I am a lipstick fiend. Thanks for the info 🙂
This is inspriring me too – off to put on some Montale Roses Elixir!
Ah shucks! SSS Rose Musc was one of my very fist indie purchases (along with the SSS Velvet Rose). Now YOU have inspired me to put Rose Musc on the rose rotation this week. Also, I do love the Ce Soir ou Jamais too…. Good ones all! I got to check the weather – we have some hot days and some cold days coming so I need to plan accordingly with those roses.
I love Fille de Berlin. You smell amazing.
If you are near a Lush, try Ro’s body conditioner (if you haven’t already!)
Scent twins today, FDB is so gorgeous! I also love the Weleda Wild Rose Shower gel- I must get some more.
Great perfume and a great book (your name). I second the Weleda!
You smell fantastic.
I’m wearing Donna Karan Woman. I’ve been wearing sweet things a lot lately (Unknown Pleasures!!!) and I needed that hit of vetiver and sandlewood.
Haie Fleurie because I own it (multiple back-up bottles worth) and love it
I deeply regret selling my bottle. Need to locate another one.
And it’s gorgeous, et vous le valez bien!
Haie Fleurie is so beautiful, and I am lucky to have a decant. I think HF and then Tom Ford Jasmine Rouge and the Diptyque EI Jasmine from last year are the most perfect stunning jasmines. HF definitely is the one that set the bar high.
Thank you everyone for the welcoming wishes yesterday! By the time I had a minute to reply it was already past 11p.m.
SOTD is Chanel Eau de Cologne, as I needed a little energy lift this morning.
Chanel Eau de Cologne is perfect. You smell fab.
Thank you Tiffanie! I only wish it had more heft- but this is true for the most Exclusifs.
Well, I was flaky yesterday and scrolled right past you. Sorry ’bout that. Wonder what else I missed?
Welcome!
Thank you MikasMinion 🙂
Can’t go wrong with Chanel. You smell great today and welcome!
Back from 5 days in New York, where I’m pleased to report the wedding went amazingly smoothly. It’s so hard to come home after such a perfect trip BUT I’m so relieved that the wedding planning itself is over.
I wore Rose Delight body oil and modern Shalimar EDP for the wedding, and lots of Cuir d’Ange, Botrytis, and L de Lolita Lempicka the rest of the weekend. They have such happy associations now that I though about continuing to wear them, but since I’ve been wearing the husband’s [now dried] rose boutonniere on my jacket, I thought a darker rose scent would be nice. Wearing PHI, since it’s been neglected for a while.
Congrads! I loved wedding planning…I really missed it when it was over.
Shalimar is what I should of wore for my wedding..you smelled fantastic!
Great scent lineup, Andy would be so pleased. 🙂
Congratulations! I’m so glad it turned out well!
Sounds like a lovely scent line-up! Happy all went as planned. Did you lauer Shalimar and RD? That never would have occured to me. Will experiment.
I wore Rose Delight as a lotion, and layered Shalimar over it. I definitely recommend the combination!
So glad your perfect day was perfect! You smelled fabulous!
Congratulations. I’m glad everything went so well. You have been smelling amazing!!
Best wishes for a lifetime of love and happiness!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Congrats! Hope you can relax and enjoy now.
What wonderful choices, congratulations!
Best wishes!
Congratulations and best wishes!
Testing some samples from the Barneys goodie bag. I have Loewe 01 Woman on one arm and Loewe 01 Man on the other. Woman is mostly jasmine on me; reminds me of the jasmine in ELDO Jasmine et Cigarette. It’s also some how creamy, nutty and what my brain calls chewy.
I prefer the Man; it’s supposed to be bergamot, cypress, violet, sandalwood & musk. It’s reminding me of some long gone Penhaligon’s scent I can’t name from back in the 00’s. It also has almost sweaty bit to it that I like but can’t figure out.
Also testing Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl in Noir Revelateur. In the tube, it is deep grey. On, it’s a gorgeous your-lips-but-deeper shade for a while. Eventually, it will turn hot pink like every other lipstick with “lip plumpers” does on me!! Such a bummer.
Si Lolita Midnight because I was in a hurry, and it was conveniently close. My few pre-rabbit hole parfumes (including Si Lolita) live in a different room, so it worked out fine, because I somehow never go there if I choose deliberately. As it is, Im enjoying the fragrance which gets too little wear otherwise 🙂
In a rush this morning so randomly spritzed the first bottle at hand, which was PG L’Ombre Fauve. But all this talk of roses has got me fired up so I am switching to Montale Roses Elixir for the afternoon/evening.
Now that the weather has temporarily cooled down, I wanted to wear my beloved Ambre Narguilé yesterday, but forgot to wear anything at all!!! So I was determined to wear it today, and I feel GREAT! A warm, cashmere hug to bring comfort to any (cool) day.
I didn’t get nearly enough sleep last night because I guess there are still pregnant mosquitos in late September and one of them got super-friendly with my arm and elbow. I spent a couple hours restlessly waking up to a buzz near my ear and then smacking myself upside the head in the hopes of killing the dastardly insect. No mosquito corpse visible this morning, so I may have just hit myself a bunch for no reason.
BUT then I went on a real run today for the first time in a year!!!! I tried a couple one-mile essays this summer, but today’s run was my standard four-mile affair by the canal and through the Jardin des Plantes. My feet didn’t hurt at all while I was running! (Of course, an hour later, they are expressing their displeasure with me.) I lost a good five minutes on my four-mile time, but that’s ok for now. I even dressed up in lab because I felt so great after my first run in forever. Between the outfit and the Ambre Narguilé, this day has been surprisingly good 🙂
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”― Dalai Lama XIV
🙂
That’s hilarious 🙂 Thanks for sharing the quotation!
Just imagining that high pitched buzzing sound made me shudder, and then made me imagine a dental drill! Glad it didn’t kill your day!
Congrats on the run! I always feel better when I’m wearing an outfit I love.
Great on the run front!, sorry about the Mosquitos tho.
Another colder day here so I sprayed some Pink Quartz by Olivier Durbano
That one sounds lovely.
I like that one a lot. Need to try the new Lapis Lazuli.
Wearing Bois d’Arménie today as I saw it was on Menardo’s list…
It is a light church scent…on the sweeter side…quite nice. I had a sample of this a while ago and just sprang for a new sample set of la Matière line from the TPC to refresh my memory.
BdA is the only Menardo fragrance I have. And it’s a really good one!
Twins! I have little decants of the new and old version (as it turns out). The new is very similar, but much lighter and less-lasting, so I use like a little EdC to top up the nice incense hum of the old.
I have yet to find a Menardo scent that I don’t at least like…(Though I admit to not having smelled a lot of the Yves Rocher or Lempicka or some other hard to find from her list…)
Make sure you are testing the current version as it is considerably lighter than the original.
I am wearing Hanae Mori because it supposedly has a strawberry note (although I can’t really distinguish it) and I have on my bright yellow dress with the red strawberries on it for Picture Day.
The Givenchy Les Mythiques L’Interdit has a very prominent strawberry note if you are ever curious about strawberries….
It would be nice to match my dress, but I like Hanae Mori anyway. I will see if I can search out Givenchy Les Mythiques L’Interdit.
SOTD Eloge du Traitre from ELdO.Looking forward to try their new releases soon as well!I did a quick sniffathon today;Tom Ford Orchid Soleil was love at first sniff, and in the bag it went.Other sniffs were the new Coach-pretty good fruity-floral affair,Missoni-beautiful bottle but the scent went to clone-territory,and Zadig and Voltaire This is her!,which I found very interesting as opposed to the This is him! generic “masculine”.All in all a good day for the nose.
SOTD is Lolita Lempicka au Masculin, which is very nice but I remember it used to be much more “liquoricy” in the early 2000s
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
It may be SOTW because it is soooooo good (and on theme for Friday’s Community Project). I have a few other Annick Menardo perfumes but may not want to dig them out.
Has anyone been to the Arabian Oud boutique at Times Square? I may pass by on my way home today. The hours are perfumista friendly – 10:30AM to 10:30PM. I was reminded of it upon reading Kafka’s fabulous Amber post:
http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2016/09/16/a-guide-to-amber-part-ii-50-fragrances-to-consider/
No! Didn’t even know about it, so thanks for the PSA.
Maybe I’ll bump into you!
I’d go if I were going home from Grand Central, but I’m opting for the most painless commute option which is the ER Ferry. But do report- I’m curious about the prices here since they were fairly reasonable online from the Mid East.
I’ll go Thursday since I’ll be meeting friends for dinner near Lincoln Center. I’m curious about the pricing too and I can finally ask about the silver container of something that came with my Kalemat.
Oooh, I wish I had known! Kalemat’s fabulous and I’d love to try their other scents. That will definitely be on my itinerary for my next trip to NY!
I think it just opened. I’ll get the scoop if I feel chatty.
How was the wedding? Which pwrfumes did you wear?
Please do report back if you end up visiting the shop!
The wedding was pretty perfect–the weather was amazing, and everything came together better than I hoped and expected. I wore Tauer’s Rose Delight oil and Shalimar EDP. Two years ago, when I bought my bottle at Nordstrom, the SA said I’d have to wear it when I married my boyfriend. Can’t argue with that, I guess!
Heh! I just realized you posted on wedding stuff above. Thanks for indulging me. I ended up not going to Arabian Oud but will do so by month’s end. I can’t believe we’re at the end of September and summer is back with a vengeance without daylight to cheer one up!
I’m taking no prisoners in Sarrasins today.
You smell gorgeous! That is one jasmine I really like! Like Victoria of the BdJ said, jasmine by the way of horse stables 🙂
Excellent.
I love the sound of this one!
You smell amazing! my favorite Jasmine
Vol de Nuit EdP, courtesy of the lovey Elisa P.
My husband gave me two gift certificates for my birthday. One for New London Pharmacy and the other for Bergdorfs. Neither are big…but enough for a reasonably priced small bottle of something (or at least close)… Two immediate thoughts are Kelly Caleche and Chamade. Will have to wander in both stores…a happy chore!
Thanks for the cred but I never owned more than a tiny sample of VdN edt ????Someone else?
Hope you’re enjoying it, though!
Aaack!! So much for reading labels. L’Heure Bleu. Obviously, as much as I love Guerlain, I’m not well versed in some of these….
I wasn’t too sure at first but the dry down, which is quite faint now, is comforting. Will wear this again!
Ha! They’re pretty different. Someone gifted me a partial bottle which is why I passed along my decant. I love LHB, especially in cooler weather. It is a comfort scent.
No idea why I had in my head it was Vol de Nuit…. By the way, I’m really enjoying the set of freebies you sent. Thanks again.
SOTD is a relatively new Parfumerie Générale, “4.1 Le Musc et Le Peau”. Which really means that for today’s experiment we have taken a musk perfume noted for its chocolate note (Musc Maori), removed the chocolate note, and applied it to a test subject who can’t smell musk. Inevitably I find the result rather pointless! :^)
I’ve already forgotten what I thought of Le Musc et Le Peau. I do remember, however, that it didn’t share the magic of Musc Maori (to my nose, at least)
I’ve been very curious about that one and have considered a trip to Osswald just to check it out. It seems like it’s intended to be an almost blank slate for layering.
I can imagine that working if you’re not anosmic to musk as I am. It just whispered sweet nothings to me. ;^)
I found it pleasant but unremarkable.
Had a craving for Baiser Vole this morning, so that’s what I’m wearing (edp).
I love LL L’eau en Blanc. I have a mini and need a full bottle so I can spray lavishly. I’ve got quite a few Menardos but access to none of them as I’m still displaced from my apartment (we are now on week 5) so I won’t be participating in this week’s project.
Wearing Mona di Orio Rose of Hollande (that name’s slightly off), from a bottle I got for a great price on e. Bay. It isn’t really cool enough yet for this dusky rose, but I like it so much I’m pretending.
I like the name 😉 but I love the perfume!
I just thought I had the name wrong! I love Holland – and the perfume!
Woke earlier than usual. No, that’s not really possible in my case. I mean I got moving earlier than usual because the dear one is sick with a horrid cold, Dakkie was wailing for food because he was getting thinner by the minute and needed Temptations instantly if not sooner, ans Izzy was just e eating her personality by way of an unblinking stare and an increasing weight on my tummy. In other words, bedtime was over at 4.45; the day began. Now I’m dressed, breakfasted and be-perfumed: Misia for a miserable day. It really is adorably pretty, but it isn’t at all innocent or ingenue. It might be a stereotypically “feminine” scent, but it’s got some backbone that moves it away from girly towards womanly. And like many strong women I admire, it has stamina: it will be with me at the end of what is going to be a very long day.
I HATE autocorrect and my own sloppy, hasty habit of not proofreading my posts! Izzy was EXERTING her personality… She does it all the time, .my little grey purr. She’s tiny and she’s old and frail, but her personality fills the apartment.
@johanob, above, suggested a comment/autocorrect of the day. I think you’re in the running. 🙂
Misia is indeed all those things to me. It’s *great* for a rough day at work.
Misia is such a beauty, I’m eagerly awaiting a bottle from eBay, it should have been here last week. Glad it’s lovely presence is seeing u through a difficult day.
Temptations. Crack for cats. I can’t open any kind of crinkly bag without a herd of cats surrounding me thinking it is Temptations….
Skimmed the comments, no time to read and enjoy but wanted to chime in with my SOTD which is 31 Rue Cambon.
You all smell divine!
you smell wonderful!
Hi twin!
Hi! (big wave)
You smell lovely!
SOTD is Tom Ford Violet Blonde. So pretty, and so soothing somehow, and will keep me company as I paint sample colors on a few walls and try to winnow down the choices.
Inspired by Jalapeno yesterday, I’m wearing Cuir de Lancôme to see if I detect smokiness. It’s also turned out to work nicely with today’s weather, which is cloudy and a bit cooler than usual.
Cuir de Lancome has a little thread of smoke in it. Adore the stuff (and it’s about as smoky as I can manage).
Yes, just the tiniest thread–that’s a good way to describe it.
I’m wearing it this afternoon too and not getting any smoke. Perhaps it’s wearing it in the hot weather that’s keeping it so pretty-pretty? I keep imagining scented gloves in a pale dusty-violet suede and I’m pretty sure I should get a full bottle so I have some to test when the weather finally cools off. My tiny decant isn’t going to last long at this rate.
No, it’s not the heat. It’s intended to be a floral-woody suede, so your mental image is spot-on!
Hypnotic Poison with Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl lipstick…not bad for my totally glamorous lifestyle (snort!!!) I was op shopping yesterday and saw Poison Girl ( the one I donated ) still on the shelf and felt so guilty that I bought her back. That’s “bought” …. How can a person feel sorry for a perfume? I need to read up on co-dependency. I did leave her in the car with Bronze Goddess ( the time-out storage area) but secretly I am quite pleased to see her again.
Too funny!
That is a funny story! I probably would have done the same, as I feel sorry for neglected perfumes all the time…
Hee hee.
I would have done the same.
???? Yep, I’m sure I’d do the same thing too.
A few dabs of vintage Mitsouko extrait. Happy, happy, happy❤️
How lovely, I adore Mitsouko too, can only imagine how glorious u smell in vintage extrait!
+1!
oh, you smell beautiful!
I am about done with GRR Martin (huh, that’s an appropriate abbreviation, given my “For the love of Tolkien, STAAHP killing all the characters I like!!” reaction to the 5th Game of Thrones book) these days. Hmph. The whole series is getting unbelievably depressing.
SOTD is Mary Greenwell Plum, but I am going to have to find my Cuir de Lancome. The weather is about right for it now.
Yes, cuir de Lancôme weather is here!
I’m wearing my beloved cheap thrill Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom today. Last night I wore AG Le Chevrefeuille to bed, and I’m thinking that the two would layer together beautifully — they have something very in common.
You smell great! I loooove MLB!
Day two of testing Nirvana Bourbon. It definitely reminds me of Nirvana Black; I think they will layer nicely once (if?) the weather here turns cooler. It’s not as sweet as I thought it was going to be, but now I’m craving vanilla rum cake. . .
You smell great. Nirvana Bourbon is so nice. It is probably my favorite of the four Nirvana scents.
I’ve worn it quite a few times in the evening and still haven’t figured it out. I LOVE the smoky whiskey barrel opening but I’m unsure whether I love or hate what follows.
I’m doing a Rose week too. SOTD is Fille De Berlin, which is so comforting, not to mention gorgeous. I still have a few rose samples that I haven’t tried yet from the wonderful AnnE.
You smell wonderful! FDB is on my FB wish list…
SOTD = retesting my sample of Cuir de Lancome, to see if all the smoke I noticed yesterday was reproducible, or a fluke. I did get some smoke today, but I noticed light leather/suede right at the beginning, along with something peppery and some sweet but not cloying florals. CdL is proving to be quite the chameleon on my skin…
Hi, twin! After your comment yesterday, I wore CdL today to see if I would get any smoke. The verdict is: not really. If I stick my nose right up to my arm, I can just make out a vague suggestion of smoke, buried under (or intertwined with?) the woody-floral leather. I checked the Guide, and LT specifically mentions how it’s *not* smoky like so many other leathers. …So it sounds like it’s a very interesting variable scent on you!
SotD = Angel Muse, an Angel that’s seems easy to like. Is it possible for something from Mugler to feel relatively restrained? I’m glad a sample came my way.
While at the shopping mall I sniffed E&J Nirvana Black, White, Bourbon, and Rose. Bourbon made me smile. All four are really, really good.
Going to get a sample next time I’m in Sephora….
I might have to risk Angel Muse on my skin. It smells pretty on the blotter, but I remember thinking that about Angel the first time too…
I need a sacrificial lamb (limb?). Perhaps I can get a sample and give it to my Mom or MIL so I can get a sense of it on skin. It would probably smell great on my husband but there is NO way he would let me spritz him with a pink bottle.
LOL. If he says no to pink, say it’s not pink, it’s the color of alien protoplasm. The shape of the bottle looks like an alien’s eye.
I think the hazelnut and vetiver keeps the “Angelness” in check.
SOTD was Byredo, Gypsy Water – love love that stuff! I must have put enough on to stay with me for at least part of the day as I got asked what it was – in a good way 🙂 they wrote it down and asked me to spell it – the Byredo part – ha!
Several of you have commented on Bal d’Afrique on here – and I’m trying that next. It’s still so hot here in the southeastern US that I haven’t been able to break out anything with much of a bite to it yet.
Bvlgari black for me, and the rest of the week. I just don’t need any more decisions to make at this point! And it”s my only Menardo.
Yesterday I was going to wear Black, then though it would get too warm for it. Couldn’t find anything else I wanted, and then ended up in three sprays of boozy, tobacco-y, ambery Ambre Loup from Rania J. yeah, nice light scent for a warm day, that one. It was bliss.
