'Tis Monday, and International Talk Like a Pirate Day! What fragrance be ye wearin?
I'm wearing Bvlgari Black, from Annick Menardo. It is perfect for the dreary (but much needed) rain we're having here this morning.
Reminder: on 9/23, wear a perfume by Annick Menardo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I’m wearing Bottega Veneta, because it was finally found underneath a bookcase after my cats knocked it off my bed to play with it several months ago.
Ha! Those cats- I love the way they nonchalantly knock stuff of tables, shelves, etc, in such an unconcerned manner. After the big fall, they need to regroup by cleaning their paws. Glad you found it and BTW, you smell great????
I’m all too familiar with Krazy Kats! Glad you’re reunited with BV. Such a great one!
LOL! 2 nights ago, I watched as my one year old cat knocked several items off into the bathtub. First a razor, then a bottle of shampoo, etc. HA HA When he knocked the shaving gel over (aluminum can), the noise scared him off and he moved on! 🙂
I have that problem with my one cat hunting my earrings. So annoying! But you smell great. BV is one of my fav go to fragrances.
I must be lucky – I don’t know how she does it but somehow my cat can jump up onto the cluttered top of my chest-high dresser (my chest, not hers, and I’m quite tall) without knocking anything off, ever. No matter where she is she delicately picks her way around any obstacles.
My theory is that ALL cats are capable of delicately picking their way through without disturbing a thing – it’s just that some cats choose not to.
Totally agree. My cat Midnight deliberately goes after things like my glasses case or my blood sugar monitor if I’m not paying enough attention to him.
Yes. Bat was notorious for breaking stuff to get attention. I know he was on shelves and bookcases all the time but he only ever broke stuff when he was disgruntled and feeling snippy (and trust me, there was no mistaking that mood).
My cats sometimes like to knock things over too. They’ll tap at something with their paw until it falls to the floor, then they’ll look down at it at it like “Hmm.. interesting..”, like they’re making scientific observations about falling things.
I remember a cartoon where the cat owner was telling her cat a cautionary tale about another cat knocking over a bottle of nitroglycerin: “He blew up the house AND his dinner!”
😀
Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day! Here in he swamp, Krispy Kreme is giving a free glazed donut if you talk like a pirate. Just sayin…
I skipped the donut and decided I needed a healthy helping of Corsica Furiosa for a long day of traveling.
Happy Monday to all my NST “Mateys”
i would for a donut
Ha! I would definitely do that fer a Krispy Kreme. Safe travels to ya!
Well Krispy Kreme and Starbucks finally invaded Africa as well, and I must say:BEST.DOUGHNUTS.EVER.Lol.I can never visit Jo’burg and NOT stop at the KK halfway to the subway!!
I’m not even sure where to get them in NYC anymore since the shops I knew of all closed. They are divine, so enjoy!
Penn Station has one :-). If you go down the first set of stairs on 7th between 33rd and 32nd, just keep going straight down that corridor. It’s on the right before getting to the Madison Square Garden concourse (not really sure what it’s called but it’s near an Auntie Anne’s kiosk). You’re welcome – MWAHAHAHAHA
Thanks! I got the day old rejects from a box at one my work sites, but no one was able to tell me where they came from!
Happy travelin’!
I ye be wear’in Charnel Gourmand Coquin by Guerlain since some NST’ers think my gravatar looks like a macaron. So I decided to match my scent to my photo. I smell delicious.
The city is restless today..hoping my fellow NYC NST’ers stay safe
Big love
Gourmand Coquin really is delicious. Definitely the best of the original three Elixirs Charnels, I thought (although I haven’t kept up with the series).
Glad everyone I know is safe. I am slightly anxious about taking the subway today.
And to top it off the UN is in session so on the east side you have the motorcades and the President in the big apple at the same time…
Very unsettling, to say the least.
Pleased with the stepped up police presence.
NYC folks, we will all be thinking of you today.
Chelsea is my old stomping ground, albeit when it wasn’t so expensive! Makes my heart heavy with what is happening. I worry this weekend will inspire others…
Stay safe!!!!!
Wore that yesterday! Snuffled my arm all day long…
Definitely a week for walking over to subway for us. 1st and 2nd Aves are traffic nightmare in the 30s and 40s What’s actually nice is that 1st Ave is unusually quiet when you get to our ‘hood in the 50s.
I pulled out my botle to review its level and I’m still good. You smell delicious!
Arrrr and avast and all that. I be smellin’ better than bilgewater in a hearty blast of Angel Liqueur de Parfum 2013 (the finest of the family, say I).
Oh, great pirate vibe! Well done on both the fragrance and the pirate talk ????
Definitely better than bilgewater!
YOU WIN.
You took the words right out of my head, Ede. 😀
Menardo week, day 1: Comme Un Evidence by Yves Rocher. Lovely, easy to wear and, as it came free with purchase, an absolute bargain!
Yay for free!
Dulcis in Fundo for me today as I wanted the cheeriness and sweetness of the vanilla citrus blend. This is a scent that makes me happy
I have a sample of this and love it! You smell fabulous!
Two new hires today so I’m quite busy this morning.
Worst: when huge crack of thunder wakes you up 5 minutes before the alarm goes off. Grr……
I’m in Opus IV. Lots of spices to keep me awake.
My phone went off with what I think was an emergency alert this morning. Couldn’t figure out why…
I got that too. They have a positive ID for the suspect and are asking people to call in if spotted.
I am wearing Lolita Lempicka au Masculin. I smell like high-end playdough and licorice all-sorts.
I am drinking some Zao Bei Jian tea from Tea Trekker.
I’m still getting my head around the new gravatars, including yours. Your tea sounds great. Drinking a Jade Oolong myself.
I will surely smell just like that later this week 😉
Trying Field Notes from Paris for the first time. It’s okay, but somehow not quite my thing. I’ve just checked I own 2 Menardo’s so I have a choice for Friday.
Ineke fragrances sounded so me on paper, but when I smelled them, they didn’t quite work. They seemed a bit synthetic or cheap, maybe? It’s a lovely line and well regarded by many, just one of those cases where I did not click with the brand.
I have/had no real idea of what the line is like, or what the concept is. This one gets mentioned quite a lot, and I sort of like the name. The perfume not so much. Mind you I’m not great at liking orange blossoms which apparently is what this one is all about. It’s fairly linear and, dare I say it, a wee bit pedestrian.
I didn’t find it dominated by orange-flower: I thought it was largely nicotiana, a flower my mother used to grow which I love love love.
Kevin mentioned OB and since I’m not great at picking out notes I went with that. I’ve never smelled Nicotiana, and I don’t even know whether it grows in my country.
I don’t know what country you’re in but nicotiana grows absolutely everywhere, in all gardening zones: however, since as the name suggests it is full of nicotine, being the flower of a tobacco plant, it’s poisonous when eaten, so you want to keep kids and pets away from it. If you ever have the chance to plant some, you should: many varieties of nicotiana are night-blooming and produce the most glorious perfume, as we expect from the night-blooming plants.
I’m in the Netherlands and have since looked up the plant. It’s widely available at nurseries over here. I’m going to bear it in mind, as I love fragrant plants, and it looks quite pretty as well. Thanks for the tip!
I loved Field Notes from Paris but found all the rest of the alphabet series very synthetic-smelling (particularly After My Own Heart: I think a lilac soliflore just can’t be done), so it’s not just you.
I like several of that series enough for full bottles but After My Own Heart is one of the worst attempts at lilac I’ve ever experienced. It is the only one I find completely unwearable.
I think “Worst attempt at Lilac” could be the title of a novel, don’t you?
I had the same experience.
Yep, me too. Very synthetic.
Me too. A lot of them reminded me of air fresheners. I wanted to like Field Notes from Paris because the notes seemed right up my alley, but there was a sharp note (maybe coriander?) that kind of dominated and ruined it for me. The only one I actually did like was Evening Edged in Gold.
I’m nodding in agreement, too.
Same. I got a discovery set some years ago and didn’t get on with any of them.
Wow, cannot remember the last time so many people agreed with me???? I’m very happy for everyone who gets on with Ineke and I have no intention to bash the brand, but sometimes it’s a relief when people join you in your dislike or doubt.
No offense taken here. I have six or seven FBs from the line but I certainly don’t expect them to float everyone’s boat. 😉
I completely know what you mean about trying to be diplomatic when you don’t like something, though. Occasionally I want to share my horror and revulsion and worry I’ll hurt someone’s feelings so I edit myself quite heavily (unless we’re discussing Angel, which I loathe and can’t possibly say anything nice about).
That one didn’t work for me. I mostly got an ashy fougere, which wasn’t what I was expecting.
The series didn’t work for me, but I really like bottles. I keep re-sniffing the perfumes in case I change my mind!
My daughter will be delighted that it’s Talk Like a Pirate Day 🙂
I’m wearing the new Byredo unnamed fragrance and liking it quite a bit. It’s probably not so much because of the total uniqueness and amazingness of the fragrance, but because I happen to like combinations of violets and wood. I get a lush, almost fruity violet (plus a bit of iris) contrasted by pepper, wood and moss. The woody-mossy-peppery element is quite sharp in the beginning, but mellows as the day goes on. The staying power is not great on me, though, I wonder if there are any musks in the dry down I cannot smell?
They talked about this on in the WSJ weekend addition “why fall is the best season” and they talked about perfume and named this Byredo as a nice fall scent.
I saw that article somehow and am intrigued by unnamed. I tried it briefly in Liberty last week but had already sniffed a few other things and couldn’t really make my mind up about it. I wonder if it will be at all like Dans Tes Bras with the violet aspect? Will try again.
I don’t remember DTB well enough to say anything intelligent about how they compare. I wasn’t initially wowed by this either, but kept being drawn back by this violet and liking it more and more.
Thanks for this analysis! I’ve been very curious about it 🙂 It sounds lovely.
I like it, but I realise it’s not the greatest thing ever. Worth trying for people who like violet and/or wood scents.
Your description sounds really nice. I’ll have to remember to see if they have it to sample next time I’m at Neiman Marcus.
I think it’s definitely worth trying, if you like this sort of thing. And they are usually good with samples.
SL Bois de Violette today from the lovely floralgal ???? Perfectly cheerful for this dreary day weatherwise and events wise here in NYC. So disturbing, but life and commutes continue…
World can be horrid, but you smell beautiful.
Thanks! You’ve had your share as well.
You’re doing your part to tip the balance back to “Good,” so carry on and keep smelling great. I completely understand the commute anxiety. Feeling the same way myself, although I’m not commuting, per sé.
Thank you! You have an extra long commute today. Hoping it’s uneventful and safe!
How do you like this one? Its on my to try list..
I love it. It’s my favorite sweet woody violet and one of my favorite SLs.
Such a pretty scent and perfect for today’s weather. You smell lovely.
Thank you???? The only downside is it’s longevity is not great. It’s pretty much undetectable now.
SOTD Chanel No 19 EDT from about 2002- a recent ebay find. So good! I’m picking up a pre-barcode sealed parfum tonight too, so fingers crossed.
Thinking of those in New York x
Awesome find! I have an older non-barcode No 19, and it is just gorgeous. Lucky find for me too.
Zoologist Panda for a bright beautiful day. I think this may become a spring/signature. ????
This is my favourite of the line
I am REALLY going to have try these, since it’s a Canadian company and they clearly have a sense of humour (their pick-three travel-size coffret is called Natural Selection). I’ll be in Toronto in November so I’ll have to check out at least Rhinoceros (leather tobacco? yes please!) and Bat (wonderfully dank and mucky, sounds like) at MenEssentials.
2 new ones are launching in the next while – Macaque and Nightingale.
I see from Fragrantica they both have Please No More Oud in them, and Macaque has apple as well (it’s EVERYWHERE, it’s inescapable these days), so maybe those two aren’t for me. Doesn’t mean I won’t try them if I see them, though….
I’m a big fan of the reformulation of Beaver. Also quite anxious to try Nightingale.
Why can’t pirate kids go to the movies? Because they’re all rated arrrrr…… hee hee
SOTD: Atelier Sud Magnolia. Got it from my Sephora Play! box, and it’s really nice! Usually magnolia puts me in headache territory, but this is nice and light. Good stuff! 🙂
HA! I needed a laugh today
Haha, loved you joke! Much needed first thing on a Monday morning.
???? Har har! I’ve heard a variation of that before, too. And you know what? It still makes me laugh!
Still haven’t gotten myself the birthday present for myself yet. With spending around $350 on a plane ticket to San Diego for a weekend trip in October, Iris Silver Mist is out of the question. I found my coupon code for a Tahitian pearl pendant or bracelet that I can get. Now it’s picking out what I like better.
This morning’s SOTD is vintage Miss Dior. After my shower, I think I will go the no 19 Edp route or vintage Bal.
Ooh, a Tahitian pearl piece of jewelry sounds fabulous. Plunder yer self up some birthday booty! (I seem to be stuck in ‘pirate mode’ now.) ????
Out of town since Friday on a job assignment until the end of the week. I brought with me decants of Chanel No. 19, 31 Rue Cambon, 28 La Pausa and Guerlain Apres l’Ondee. Enough and beautiful fragrances to cover the whole week, except for Friday that I will be participating in the project. SOTD Chanel 28 La Pausa. I have reaplied it many times already. Decant will for sure be finished by the end of the day, but it is worthy!
You will smell lovely as well as elegant all week – perfect selection for a work trip.
You picked some amazing scents
What beautiful choices for you’re work trip, I haven’t smelt La Pausa yet, but u surely smell wonderful!
SOTD is Maria Candida Gentile Rrose Selavay.
All of my Annick Menardo scents (Bvlgari Black, Hypnotic Poison and Lolita Lempika (original)) are still in storage. This week’s project will prompt me to finally put away my summer scents and replace them with a fall rotation! Of course its still pretty hot here, but I’m ready for a change.
I quite like Rrose Selavy but haven’t worn it much out since it seems to be polarizing. I think you smell great!
To deal with our drizzly morning – rain is much needed up here too – I am layering Lalique Encre Noir with the original Stella McCartney. Vetiver and roses is just the thing for a day like today.
That sounds like a great combination! I don’t own either of those anymore, but now I wish I did 🙁
This really does sound wonderful, such a great idea.
There really should be more rose-vetiver fragrances. But it’s fun to layer for sure.
Yum, what a gorgeous combination, will have to try something similar (many roses but not that one)
Quite, wet Monday morning. Miss the sunshine, hope it comes back soon.
SOTD: Santal Blanc, cozy and gentle sandalwood and just what I need for today.
I miss the sunshine too…I think we need the rain though!
Enjoy your sandalwood. Samsara is my favorite sandalwood. I tried Santal Blanc but it didn’t have any last power on me and wore too close to the skin, but I appreciated it nonetheless.
Samsara is too much for me, gives me a headache. It’s beautiful and I do enjoy it but it’s intense on the sandalwood. The Santal Blanc is much softer on that note.
I agree, we certainly could use some rain.
Love Santal Blanc, you smell wonderful. 🙂
My good wishes and thoughts to all in New York.
SOTD is Lady Vengeance, for some reason I am craving dark roses and patchouli at the moment. Tried Lumiere Noire pour Elle this weekend and that too is gorgeously femme fatale and heavy yet light, but not sure I really need both??
What do you think of Portrait of the Lady?
Pichola. It is still hot and humid here. I will be reading a variety of pirate stories to my students, so I will get to talk like a pirate. Two of my favourites for those of you with little kids: Grandma and the Pirates (grandma gets kidnapped by pirates who love her noodle pudding) and Pirates Don’t Change Diapers.
Mmmm…noodle pudding, can’t say I blame them.
Still warm and humid here today but the temps should be dropping steadily this week. Yay!
Wearing FM Iris Poudre.
You smell wonderful and the drydown is spectacular!
Argh, a most happy Monday to ye!
In Boucheron, a fine elixir if I do say!
Love Boucheron. It was my sig scent for a few years back about 1995.
I can see why. Such a a lovely easy to wear Oriental type of perfume.
A fine elixir, indeed! Ye be smellin’ great.
Home from the islands but still on vacation for another week – bliss! Wore Le Dix to dinner last night, and this morning have been haunting ebay hoping to stumble across someone selling a pristine bottle (or two) in my price range, without success. Thank goodness there’s STC. One of my plans for all the free time this week is to try some new paint colors in my little home office. And maybe the spare bedroom. Brighten things up a little. Happy Monday, mateys!
Nice avatar, tough to accomplish in that little space!
Thank you! It took some experimentation, for sure. 🙂
Good luck with your search. It can be really $$$. I got a small bottle of vintage extrait for a song and fell in love with this scent. I have a massive bottle of vintage EDT with a broken sprayer which I think can be fixed, but I haven’t got around to it yet (I think it just needs to be cleaned up.) Both were bargains from ebay, so be patient and something will come up 🙂
Nice avatar, Sheri! I defintely see a bird standing on the shore with water lapping on its legs. Beautiful. It looks like something else from afar but I’ll keep that to myself.
Oh, now I want to know … I think. 🙂
Hello NST community!
After reading this blog for about 2 years I finally desided to come out and join. My journey down the rabbit hole originally began with search for long lost Nocturnes de Caron. This is how I found Bois de Jasmin and NST blogs.
SOTD is Estee Lauder Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang edp- kicking myself for not getting the largest decant from TPC sale.
Welcome!! Hope you love this community as much as I do! 🙂
Welcome!
And you smell AMAZING.
Welcome!
Welcome!
Welcome! And you smell lovely.
Hello!
Welcome! Glad you de-lurked. I have never smelled that Amber Ylang Ylang but I bet you smell fabulous!
Hello! Your SOTD is a beauty. 🙂
A belated welcome — glad you joined us!
Thanks a lot to everyone for welcoming me into this wonderful blog!!!!
I just finished my work around the house to do a daily fragrant reading 🙂
Rainy Monday and I’m wearing SJP Stash, which is yummer than yum.
Side note: our library offers a language learning database which — among other, more predictable language choices like French, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese — includes a course in Pirate parley. Larnin’ be not just fer landlubbers!
That’s a hoot, what a great way to encourage language study!
Yes!
Yaaarrrrrrrr!
That’s great????
Equally fun was the pirate name generator I tried earlier– by algorithmic decree, I’m Harriet “Thieving Magpie” Spoons, the Knave of Cannibal Sound. 😀
🙂
????
I did a pirate name generator years ago, and I’m Red [my first name] Bonney! (Actually, I went mad with the name generators that same day, and also got a Viking name, Hobbit name, Star Wars name, Wu-Tang name…)
Hee! Have you tried the Dickens character generator? You, too, can be named Clary Flarely or Garnet Bednett!
I need to take that course, is it on the web?
It’s Mango Languages– check w/ your public library or local college; they might offer it. 🙂
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum to all! I’m wearing Cuir Mauresque this morning.
And ye smell divine!
you smell wonderful!
???? you smell FABULOUS!
Ah, you make me want to wear this, but I still don’t own a bottle. Might have to go for Boxeuses instead.
I’m wearing DSH Giverny In Bloom today.
We got back from our France trip late Saturday night, and I’m still trying to adjust to the time change. It was worth it, though. A marvelous time!
I’m also drinking a cup of Josephine tea. I bought some at Lauduree located in Cannes on the last day of our trip.
Giverny in Bloom is the perfect scent for re-entry into regular life. Also: Mmmmm, Laduree.
Laduree was so pretty! I bought my daughter a small box of macarons to take home with us. We sampled a few today. They were delicious!!
Can’t wait to hear about your perfume adventures!
In Chanel No. 5 body oil with a spritz or two of A la rose. It is going to be another scorcher today, and I don’t want to overwhelm anyone.
As for Menardo, it looks like the only perfume of hers I own is a small decant of Guerlain’s Bois d’Armenie. I’m intrigued by her opus and will try to get my hands (nose) on others of hers.
you smell incredible. that sounds like a great layering combination!
you smell great!
This sound like a very interesting combo. Will have to try
Tried the last 2 in the Bourdoes sampler. “Least likely to enjoy” proved true, kind of like feeling you have to finish a book. All in the pursuit of knowledge, I guess.
Oh, they were Selva do Brasil (just ok, sorry, Solanace) and Somei Yoshino (too jasmine-y for me).
My fave was Arz El-Rab. Notes are ginger (fairly strong top note), iris (not obvious to me), and cedar. Dry down leaves more of an impresssion of soft musk to my nose. FBW.
Those notes sound really nice for Arz El Rab.
Ginger, iris and cedar sounds about perfect.
These are not heavyweights, but more daytime frags. Wanted to say that the ginger was pungent but also slightly musty, like a strong powdered ginger.
Scent twins with Robin today!
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
I was originally going to “save” this to wear on Friday, then I thought how silly would that be to wait until then! I may just wear this ALL WEEK.
I have not read the comments yet but let me geek out for a minute. I could buy 2,072 mLs of Bvlgari Black for the $795 list price of that bag.
🙂
You smell great! (I’ll be wearing it Friday.)
Hey twin, and we had the same reasoning! I might just wear it again on Friday. Really, I could probably just wear it all week.
Muggy and raining here in Boston– yay for rain, blergh for muggy so I am wearing White Shoulders
Ah, I love Annick Menardo. Very early in my rabbit hole journey, I realized I loved Patchouli 24 and decided I needed to find out what else this person made, so a lot of early samples and loves were from her.
Today, one of those, Fendi Palazzo, as it’s rainy and cool and somewhat sad out…
powdery and grown up, and I don’t need a bottle yet still find it terrific.
I really enjoyed my sample of Palazzo too. Couldn’t commit to a bottle either. But if I ever saw a heavily discounted bottle, I would definitely buy it!
Oh, yeah, if I ever saw it for cheap, I’d do it, too!
Palazzo sounds like the epitome of a Rich Lady perfume – is it?
Yes it totally, totally is. Which is maybe why I feel like a fraud wearing it? The drydown has been a delightful accompaniment to my dish scrubbing. There’s a tiny bit left in my sample, which I’d be happy to share with you.
Indult Tihota today. also trying Neroli Outrenoir on one hand.
You smell wonderful… Tihota is so delicious. How do you like the Neroli Outrenoir? The opening smelled just like Seville à l’Aube on me, then the drydown went more myrrh on me.
Sampling Nuit d’Amour today…
I am enjoying it…reminds me a bit of 1932 maybe. It is on the soft side but I am wearing sunscreen which always seems to derail scents a bit.
I just tried this one yesterday, I didn’t have high hopes at all, but was pleasantly surprised. very dainty and pretty. I enjoy the lychee note especially. You smell great!
It can be a bit to fruity sometimes, but overall I really like it.
It’s still summer, and fortunately the weather ’round these parts realized this over the weekend, so I’m in Terracotta and doing as much basking as possible (which isn’t much, but still).
Bask while you still can!
Ever so slightly late out the door this morning,I grabbed my most-worn fragrance of this past winter:YSL Paris in edt. It’s quite the all-rounder,and I’ve realized my finger on the nozzle decides whether it will be subtle or an onslaught of Paris on my co-workers!Lol.Subtle it was this morning.Winter crept back for a minute down south.Looking forward to full-on Spring.Happy week all!xo
mmm… love Paris. Lucky co-workers! 🙂
Heure Exquise EDP today, it’s perfect on a grey day. gorgeous florals, and warm pillowy sandalwood.
My thoughts are with New Yorker’s today, stay safe.
Iris seems to work well on grey days…
I’m wearing vintage Poison. Not Menardo, so I’ll be sure to wear the Hypnotic version later this week.
Yum. I remember being 18 and walking around in a perpetual cloud of Poison.
SotD = Hiram Green Voyage from a sample shared by a lovely NSTer.
If ever I were a pirate, or met one, Voyage is a scent I’d like to encounter. I’m generally wary of leather in fragrance, but this one works just fine.
Spent part of the morning at the exotic bird shop talking like a pirate with the parrots while my daughter’s parakeet had her beak and nails groomed.
Thinking of outcasts and ne’er-do-wells, today is a great day because Sarah-Beth-Alison-Cosima-Helena (Tatiana Maslaney) and Elliot (Rami Malek) won Emmy awards. Yay!
Also, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ speech broke my heart a little bit.
You smell mmmmgood!
Frapin 1270 today. I need to learn to talk like a pirate, I am always fascinated with Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day, but never can participate beyond “Arrgh!” and “Shiver me timbers!”
You smell great!
Yeah, I’d have to research and practice a year in advance.
Elixir des Merveilles for this decidedly fall-like Monday.
Wore Dilettante all weekend long! I might like this as much as Shangri La. Much more to it than expected as I thought it might be a simple orange blossom but so much deeper than that. Very much not safe for work, at least not my work place.
I’ve said it before: the US gets the BEST national days! I’d like to see our boring (and ghastly) Tory lot allowing anything that’s half as much fun as Speak Like a Pirate day!
I’m shivering my timbers, and everyone else’s too, I hope, in 31 RC. It feels blue and moody to me today, and that’s right for the weather and my top, which is a sort of cloud blue. Yes, I know that clouds aren’t blue, but if they were, they would be this shade.
I’m drinking a second cup of very hot tea while trying to work out a complicated little piece of arithmetic that goes like this: if I don’t look half as elegant as I smell, but I feel twice as elegant as I look, should I add another spritz of 31? It’s my regular Chanel problem, and it puts me in mind of my early days working out sums that went like this: “If Peter takes 30 minutes to ride his bike to his granny’s house, and his sister can skate to the library in forty minutes while playing Pokarekare Ana on the flute, how many eggs will the grey hen lay this week?”
I’m with you on those horrid word problems. My mental answer is always, “Who cares?” and I have never had to solve anything remotely similar in real life as an adult. Or anything involving trigonometry, either. Insofar as the perfume problem, I say more 31RC is better. Chase the clouds away!
Ha! Right? I wish they’d taught that if you go out to eat with a group, if you multiple your total items by 1.3, the result is your contribution including tax and tip(I just learned this last week!)
That’s a nice tip and a nice tip for the server 😉
I dreaded math when i was in school. Story problems used to make me cry.
You smell divine. I say, go on and have another spritz! And, please, no more talk of word problems!
Hey, it’s INTERNATIONAL talk like a pirate day! I rather doubt any governmental agency anywhere on earth had anything to do with it.
I’m wearing Vetiver Tonka today. I find I’m falling into ruts too easily these days, so switching it up a little. Otherwise I’d have just worn SL Fleur d’Oranger yet again. At least that’s not a bad rut to be in. I guess it doesn’t help that I haven’t got my closet arranged so that I have somewhere to put my perfumes yet. They’re accessible, but still in boxes, so it takes a little more effort to avoid just going with a few “go-tos”.
How’s the new place?
SOTD: Diptyque Eau Rose. We are having a heat spell, so trying to keep it light.
What a Monday! They upgraded our computer systems over the weekend, with the predictable result that *nothing* works today. 4 hours into my day, I can finally maybe do a little work. ARRRGH MATEY!!
SOTD is RBR Lilt. Might need to top-up with some Pacifica Brazilian Mango Grapefruit later. Record heat here.
I had the Brazilian Mango Grapefruit body butter a few years back and loved it…which was very surprising because I am generally not a fan of mango.
So no NVC Bombay Bling for you?
Who knows? Maybe in perfume, mixed with other notes is the way for me to enjoy it.
That calls for grog, I think?
Good morning everyone! Our stop-start spring seems to be starting again after days of rain, and my cold is getting better, so all good 🙂
Going classic this morning with Le Galion’s Sortilège.
A colder monday today so I grabbed Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense and sprayed without control 😉
Thumbs up! Too much of a good thing is wonderful.
I saw that you have samples of the new Neela Vermeire and the new Tauer scents. I can’t wait to read your reviews.
I’m wearing Alien fragrance of leather today. A true love. Yesterday I sampled Cuir Impertinent. At first spray, it had to much tobacco for me. After 2 minutes, literally, it became a beautiful leather skin scent. I love Thierry Mugler.
I hope all our NYC friend are safe today. I’m wearing De Profundis which is perfect for a rainy, humid day.
Completely perfect choice.
Oh I should have worn that today. I’m so exhausted at the end of it I don’t remember what I wore!
Work can be demanding. I hope you can rest up this evening.
I’m wearing Chanel Beige today. Someone mentioned it yesterday on this site and it stayed in my mind to wear it today.
You smell lovely. Such a pretty scent!
Doing a Puredistance M and Tom Ford Ombre Leather side by side today. On me, M is more interesting, and Ombre Leather is more likeable. To suit the warm sunny weather, I also have on some Diptyue Florabellio.
I have not tried TF Ombré Leather but Puredistance M is LEATHER!
Ahoy, NST, ye scalywags!
Now that the pirating has been done, on to the SOTD. I am sampling a wee bit of Cuir de Lancome, and I am greatly puzzled by it. It is VERY smoky on me! Does anyone else gets loads of smoke?
Gosh, no. It’s a very well-behaved suede on me.
I don’t know that I’d have described it as smoke, but I can see how powder and leather would translate to that.
You smell great! Hmm, I think I’d say that on me CdL stops just shy of being smoky. If I remember, I’ll wear it tomorrow and see if I can detect any smokiness.
I’ve been testing it lately too and find it very floral-powder-suede but no smoke. I’ll have to see if I pick up on any next time.
Had some Ivoire edp, but it’s faded by now. Nevermind, it told me this morning that Monday was going to be just fine, and it was right.
Testing Papillon Salome on a cool stormy day. I was anticipating many things from this, but pretty wasn’t necessarily one of them. Enjoying it a lot and can see how this would be perfection in the cold dark days of deep winter.
Arr, me hearties! (%|?^)
No Menardos chez Koenigsberg, so instead I am catching up on Blooms subscription. This week it’s the July pack featuring juniper. SOTD is Art de Parfum “Gin and Tonic”, which is a sparklingly fresh EdC great for the hot weather that, er, is now behind us. Actually it was fun today, too. Citrus, juniper and botanicals with no boozy note to worry about. No lasting power but hey, it’s a cologne so just re-apply, right?!
Ahoy, mateys! Ye bunch o’ scallywags.
Arrr, Robin, ye be smellin’ fine! I me self be wearin’ Guerlain Chant d’Arômes.
Now I be off to wet me pipe with some Nelson’s folly. Savvy? Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!
Arrggh, have never laid me hands on Chant d’Aromes, will seek out since it sounds mighty fine. Off to wet me beak with a bit of the French grape.
????
I got my decant in the STC sale, and this was the first time I’ve worn it. It was pretty quiet, but I liked it. My first impression was that it was like a cross between Jicky and Vol de Nuit…and/or maybe Chamade. In other words, it seemed Guerlain-y. ????
Loving the Pirate day lingo!????????
Haha!I can hear my Irish grandfather speaking that sentence!Lol!
🙂 Excellent choice for a pirate!
