It's Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
[And I know some people are still wondering what perfume they'll wear for Harvest Moon Friday, so I made up a quick list with some possibilities yesterday in response to a comment from jjlook. If anyone would be willing to add to it, please do!]
I'm wearing Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Kaleidoscope, again.
Reminder: 9/16 will be Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain / cereal note. If you don't have one, you could think of another note associated with the fall harvest season — apple? hay?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Hump Day, all! Life has gotten extraordinarily busy post-summer vacation, between papers that need to be published, a largely imaginary thesis, and wondering if I will ever find a job or if I’ll be out on the street holding a sign reading, “Will do a chemistry for food and coffee.”
Thanks for the list, Robin! I don’t consciously agree with it, but perhaps my subconscious does, because I doused myself in En Passant earlier this week (to remind myself of the glorious spring that’ll come back if I make it through the end of summer and winter). Today, the temperature has nosedived from yesterday’s high of 90 to a high of 63 (!!!), so I pulled out one of my favorites, which also serendipitously happens to be on Robin’s list: the magnificent Black Orchid. That wonderful chocolatey, sweet, dirty patchouli bomb has been clinging to my skin all day, and even gave off some great mango blasts earlier. I’ve missed my colder weather perfumes!
I Koyel, I hope things will work out on the job front!
I seem to remember you really liked YSL’s Nu from the samples/decants I sent you some time ago. If you are ready for a FB and would like a much cheaper but very good alternative I suggest you try the new Yves Rocher Secrets d’Essences Accord Chic. I wore it today and it smells like a somewhat softer Nu. I might even like it better! On offer it is 20 euro’s here for 30 mls.
Thanks for the advice! I’ll go sniff that one 🙂 Yes, I loved Nu! Thanks for the well wishes on the job front. Fingers crossed.
I’m glad to hear that it’s a successful twin to Nu! Now to figure out how to smell this one.
Are you in the US?
Canada…there’s stores in Quebec, but not way out west…
Ah, the job search. I registered for Interfolio yesterday – almost made me dizzy. We’ll get through it!
Thanks for suggesting that site!
Hope things are looking up soon, Koyel. 🙂
Fingers crossed for you!
Wearing Afloat by Derek Lam
Green tea this morning
Perfect match with your avatar!
Thank you Robin!
I’m wearing the yummy Encens Liquide, which I just noticed has a tea note, so I’m a week late.
Better late than never, right?
Guerlain Metallica that I acquired from the recent STC Guerlain sale– guess these 10ml will have to last me until I win the lottery…..
SOTD is Fan di Fendi. The notes are fruits that are starting to ripen now, to be ready for fall and winter – pear, tangerine. Include leather and patchouli at the base and it should be appropriate for late summer. We’ll see.
O, nearly twins – I am wearing Fan di Fendi Leather version! We must be thinking alike 🙂
A bit cooler today, taking advantage by wearing FM le Parfum de Thérèse.
lovely
You smell divine!
you smell fabulous!
SL Diam Blonde – held back and went for not too loud as we have an inservice after a day of teaching. My mood screamed for something loud and annoying to push back, but administrators don’t sit next to me, just other teachers and that would not be fair. We have six of these this year, I may resort to Vengeance Extreme by the end, it is the loudest scent I own.
Perfume as weapon 😉
Chloe for me. It’s supposed to be warm today, so I wanted something floral.
Chloe is soooooo good!! 🙂
SOTD: What we do in paris + Smoky Rose from Body Shop.
Rose flavoured macaroons. 🙂
Ooh, yum!
That sounds great!
Beloved Man (Amouage). Working my way through several Amouage samples. Happy Hump Day! 🙂
sampling Amouage sounds great!
I wore Journey Woman yesterday
And I sampled Journey Man last night. Not sure about that one, it doesn’t seem to last very long on me, and it reminds me in the drydown of Bandit (weird, I know), so I don’t think I’ll need a FB. That is a good thing since Amouage is so spendy! 🙂
JM orris & sandalwood for a cool morning. Mmmmm
lovely.
Lostmarc’h Lann Aël for me today. I smell like fruit loops.
I am drinking some seltzer with a slice of candied Buddha’s Hand.
I have been meaning to make candied Buddha’s hand ever since Alyssa posted a recipe. Not sure it will ever happen. Did you make them yourself?
I did. We have a Buddha’s Hand tree in our backyard. (I mostly gave the fruit out and made Buddha’s Hand bitter, rum, and vodka. I was going to make a “tropical” fruitcake for winter holiday season with candied peel from the backyard, coconut and dried pineapple, but I didn’t. Maybe this year.
Ooh, Buddha’s Hand rum sounds good !
Buddha’s hand bitter! If you put that on the market I will buy it.
I wanted to wear Fracas today, but I may go swing dancing in the evening and I didn’t want lingering effects . (I worry that it doesn’t smell to others like the pretty, non-skanky floral it does to me.) Instead, I’m wearing Songes.
I don’t think it smells skanky. Big, yes. Songes is also beautiful. Whomever you dance with willbe very lucky!
Songes is friendlier, for sure!
SOTD is Guerlain Ylang et Vanille, which I don’t wear often from my precious large decant, but it is really hitting the spot today. I have determined rather late that it is one of the most beautiful vanilla fragrances I’ve ever smelled, and I am sorry that it is long discontinued. Lucky to have my decant.
Ooh, I agree. That’s a real beauty.
Yep, that’s an excellent scent. I keep hope alive by dreaming that Guerlain will reissue Ylang et Vanille some day.
Happy hump day! I’m torn between not wanting to wish my life away, yet always wishing for the weekend…
Wearing Boyfriend dry oil on my hands and dabs of Micallef Gaiac elsewhere. Perfect for an early fall day.
I’m going to add Lostmarch Lann-Ael as a lovely gourmand for your list of harvest moon possibilities. I’ll probably wear that or PG Bois Blond.
Know what you mean, I dont want time to go faster right now, but yesterday and today were too much. So weekend it is!
After putting all my summer perfumes away, and bringing out the cooler weather ones, ive now brought all the summer ones out again, so am wearing Philosykos today, and probably Ninfeo milo tomorrow. My one grain containing perfume I’m saving for Friday, it’s one of my summer favourites, so pleased it’s set to be appropriate for the weather!
Well, figs are a late summer/early fall fruit, aren’t they? You still get credit for the spirit of the project.
Wearing a bit of Bijan. It’s already faded to an extremely faint woody note, so I’m pondering another scent to apply. Maybe some Aromatics Elixir, which will last a year and a day.
😉 A year and a day, plus one.
😀
DSH Jardin Vert (thank you fragrant fairy….:) !!!)
i love LOVE TODAY’s photo choice!!
Well I left my samples stash @ home on my way to the Chesapeake Bay so I’ll just have to suffer and go eu natureelle as a sea breeze.!!
These posts are full of such amazing suggestions!!!i just found another sandalwood reco for my dear friend.
Thanks All!!
Yay, Wednesday!
SOTD: Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile
This is probably my most favorite scent these days. I say “these days” because it does seem to change every few months. Whereas last year around this time I wore a lot of Mohur extrait.
It is absolutely gorgeous!
I’m now scoping out the shower gel and body lotion too 😉
Heaven. It is a bit too hot here for Iris Nobile, but once it starts to cool off I look forward to wearing it again.
Sampling vintage Amazone. This is a case of I *should* like it due to the notes, but I simply don’t. I’ll keep sniffing throughout however long it lasts, but if something doesn’t grab me from the get-go, I lose interest. At this point in the game, I want perfume that I enjoy from start to finish. Maybe I’m cranky today, or am succumbing to being a cantankerous old fart on a more permanent basis. 😉
Liked Amazone when it first came out and wore it regularly…sampled a vintage given to me a few years ago and did not like it at all…same as you ‘should have’ have liked it but did not….
agreed, I want to love my perfumes from start to finish!
I like Amazone but it’s SO quiet. I wish there had been an intense version, back when the proper ingredients were still allowed. One of Hermes’ updates to classics is Rose Amazone which is stronger, but I personally find it a bit harsh. To me, Galop is more like what Rose Amazone should have been. You might try that one if you like rose.
Thank you for the suggestion, nozknoz. I’m looking forward to Galop, and I already adore the bottle.
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing Bvlgari’s Omnia Coral….a mini from my September Allure monthly beauty box. Me likey! Will keep my eyes open for a bargain at TJ Maxx and the like…..
Good luck — I would think it would be there eventually!
Wearing YR Accord Chic which is very nice, similar to Nu, but softer, and without a pronounced cardamon note. I may like it better.
Longevity may not be great, but I received a towelette which may be the cause.
Will switch to something else, it is still very hot and muggy here, so it will probably be Cristalle or Eau du Sud.
I am a broken record, but miss the local YR store. Glad to hear AC is good.
…..BUT I WOULD B wearing Tomato Leather if I Could!! Another great NST recommendation. Love that stuff..
Wearing the beautiful Pichola today. I feel pretty! Oh so pretty…!
So pretty!
Drat, I was thinking about this one last night but forgot by the morning and instead reached blindly for NR. Can’t wait to get home after work to switch…
You smell beautiful.
You smell amazing.
I am going to have to duck out to make confession with Donatella. This quarter ends this month, right? SOTD is CdG Grace, because, you know, it’s a lot less expensive than MFK A La Rose, right? And I did need a fresh rose; nearly all decants are gone…. And the gift with purchase from Barneys was amazing!!!! I only also replaced the Byredo Gypsy Water I was out of, which in my mind, somehow justifies it.
An empty bottle surely warrants a new full one!
EXACTLY. Thanks goodness Enabler Husband understands.
The CdG Grace is lovely – I esp like the touch of mint!
It is so pretty! And the bottle is cute, too!
It’s still extremely hot here, so I’m wearing Byredo Gypsy Water hair mist. I think I like the story behind the perfume better than the actual perfume, but it’s nice.
agreed! (even so, you smell lovely. )
Apres L’Ondee from a STC decant, because it got so much love here. The first time I wore it I wondered why, but today it smells beautiful! More spice, more powder, more everything, and I may need a FB. I’m sorry I doubted you all!
I am still waiting if I get around to it. Somehow, I really dislike all Chanels, and a large proportion of Guerlains
I used to think I felt that way about Guerlains, but it turned out I was just smelling the wrong ones.
You smell lovely.
Apres l’Ondee is my new scent crush, my favorite of the Guerlains I tried from STC.
Robin, I love the 5 pendants photo! SOTD Coqui Coqui Orange Blossom Eau de Cologne. Nice, refreshing and long lasting for a warm and humid day like today.
Those are fimo clay — I used to make things with fimo and miss it.
I used to make things with fimo, but I have no sculpting talent like my friend (she made the most fabulous pigs) and my niece (the most incredible, realistic sushi).
Ah, I have no sculpting talent either! I mostly did cane millefiori, similar to what is shown in the image above.
Chanel Eau de Cologne in the morning but since it was gone till noon, I switched to AG Heure Exquise at work.
I wish I was your co-worker! You smell gorgeous.
Yum! I love both of those!
Do Son shower oil and perfume today.
I just noticed that the Chanel EDP is now La Pausa. they nixed the 28…
???
maybe they thought the perfume titles were number heavy? seems odd, they haven’t changed 31 Rue Cambon to Rue Cambon.
Weird. And I feel like I am going to be unhappy if/when it smells differently too.
I probably won’t even bother smelling the new one because I wouldn’t be buying it anyway because I have a ginormous BUB.
Have any of you tried the neroli Kisu lip balm that Dawn Spencer Hurwitz sells on her site? It’s pure heaven — like rubbing joy on my mouth. It’s put me in an I-need-orange-blossoms mood, so today I’ve layered Lush Orange Blossom with Oranges en Fleurs for extra headyness. I smell pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.
The site confuses me…didn’t even know she sold lip balm! I need to try this (as if I did not have enough lip balms already!).
Now I want some!
SOTD is ELdO Fils de Dieu, which basically made me smile as soon as I put it on. Like always! It’s just so much fun.
We do smell very nice 😉
We sure do!
This morning I drained the last of my sample of Chanel Pour Monsieur. Beautiful.
I still haven’t had the opportunity to smell this one. What is it like?
It’s a very smoothly blended mossy citrus. I guessed bergamot, but Fragrantica says verbena, which makes complete sense. It is the scent of simple elegance. This is the straight Pour Monsieur, NOT the concentree version, which to me smells like generic men’s cologne.
Pour Monsieur is gorgeous!
Wearing Amouage Lyric today. Need to run to the jeweler today. A Tahitian pearl pendant broke. The pearl itself didn’t break but the silver top detached itself from the pearl.
Glad you did not lose the pearl!
ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette today. Sort of on theme with the hay note.
You smell great. Favorite ELDO
Thanks! It is lovely but it gets so faint so quickly on me. I gave myself 10 sprays!
Oh, I always forget there’s a hay note! ELdO is really pulling through on this project, lol!
I really like this one, too. You smell wonderful.
I get a lot of hay in this one. More hay than tobacco. I almost went with Fils de Dieu today. Rice. You smell wonderful ????
Sensual Orchid by LM parfums. Another brand that does not get enough love 🙁
Mistral Patchouli this morning. I always forget how much I like this.
I just sprayed that and remembered too!
Costarela today as it is still basically summer here. Teaching in a smallish room and don’t want to overwhelm the space while still smelling good. This fits the bill I think (I hope!).
My current scent is Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I’ve been having bad luck lately with my daily scent choices – I’ll spray myself in the morning and then as I’m driving to work realize “Drat! I wish I had chosen X!” Today I wished I had worn Jicky.
Has anyone else ever had a bad spell of making the wrong perfume choice? It’s been about 2 weeks now. I want to get back to being totally blissed out by whatever I’ve chosen.
I’m suffering from this affliction lately, too! I go to sleep with an idea of what I’ll want to wear the next morning…but in the haze of day I end up just reaching for what I see in front.
Robin, thanks for the suggestions yesterday, didn’t see them till this morning. I’m going to find my sample of fils de dieu, and take it from there!
Glad it was helpful! And there are lots more there now…
I’m glad you made that list Robin as I was struggling to think of grain or nut notes.
Today’s perfume is Tubéreuse Criminelle. Or what is left of it. I put on at least 4 sprays this morning and I can barely smell it right now. Another hot day, I need to get some things done, but will wait for some more inspiring temps.
Glad it helped, and you smelled fantastic!
Safran Troublant. So pretty but I’ve refreshed twice today. It’s probably my allergies but I really wish I could smell it a bit longer.
you smell wonderful!
8 sprays = 4 hours for me so I don’t think it’s your honker, it’s the perfume!
Wearing Mon Précieux Nectar today…I am working my way through STC Guerlain sale decants. 🙂
I am enjoying it but wish it had a bit more sillage…
I have a sample of this one, but I don’t think I’ve ever worn it. It is fairly sweet too, yes?
It is sweet but not as sweet as Le Plus Beau Jour de Ma Vie which I wore yesterday. It is very nice but fairly close to the skin…Le Plus Beau Jour has more throw and went the distance. 😉
Mon Précieux Nectar is so wonderful. Sweet but not sugary, delicious but not foody. I think it’s the subtle almondy note that does it for me. Those STC decants are great, I will miss ordering Guerlains.
I am liking it more than Le Plus Beau Jour de Ma Vie which I wore yesterday I think.
The end of Guerlain and Chanel decants is very sad. 🙁 I do see many decants for these houses on Ebay…I guess individual sellers aren’t worth the big houses going after.
Continuing the CdG incense series, I’m retesting Ouarzazate. It seems citrusy and tangy. Not sure about that!
After two weeks and having to have Comcast out like 4 times, I finally have internet in my house! Yay!
SOTD is Sikkim Girls.
My Hump-Day-Pick-Me-Up choice for today is Hermès Eau d’Orange Verte, from a sample. I enjoy it a lot, but it’s so fleeting I struggle to even consider buying any. Maybe I’ll just have to stick to making use of store testers. ????
I keep the bulk of my perfume collection at the store and drop by en-route to the library most days. Basically off-site storage without the weekly rental…though I do sometimes encounter other people milling around my shelves.
“…milling around my shelves.” 😀
You know what? When I pass perfume counters now, I think, “Let’s see what’s in my local branch of Kanuka’s off-site storage today…”????
I’ve spent the past week doing a short survey of Rodrigo Flores-Roux’s scents but have sorely missed the absence of Arquiste down here. Still, it’s introduced me to some never sniffed before lines such as John Varvatos .. So quite interesting.
With the arrival of spring I have been watching huge smoke-like drifts of pollen from the pine trees near where I live. It will soon be sneezing season.
Wearing Pohadka. Perfect for this cool morning.
Sorry about the impending sneezes, but I would really love to smell some pine trees right now!
Hiya NST. Everyone smells fabulous.
Following Natalya and She-ra today, I’m wearing Après L’Ondée on the left and Mon Précieux Nectar on the right.
I can’t decide. Do I like one more than the other? It’s like choosing between two favorite kittens or the two best Van Gogh landscapes. Not that I have any of those to choose from, but at least there’s Guerlain.
🙂
Morning, good morning! Another one finished! No, not a perfume (how I wish!) but a supervision. One of my doctoral students is doing his viva this morning, and the written reports were really good, so I’m expecting closure on those three years within hours! All I have to do afterwards is take him and the examiners to lunch, present him to the Vice Chancellor, and I’m done. The perfume that’s going to get me through today is 19 Extrait. It’s more reliable on me at the moment than the EdeP, and I think it’s fresh enough to keep me awake while the examiners plough conscientiously through their questions about ethno-methodology, etc. #19 doesn’t match my dress, which is deep blue with a dark rose pink pattern, but never mind. As my dear mother used to say, “It’s all clean and well paid for.”
Congratulations on seeing a candidate through all the requirements!
Congratulations to you and your student!
Congrats! Thesis/dissertation supervisors are the bestliest. ????
In TF Santal Blush today, trying to hasten fall’s approach. So far no response.
LOL, we may get ours tomorrow!
Good morning all, Thursday here already!
I still need to do some research to see if I have any perfumes that for this week’s theme, nothing leaps to mind. Meanwhile, I’m contemplating the classic feel of 31 Rue Cambon.
Hello NST! It’s been a busy few days, all spent in Cuir Mauresque, my first perfume love. When I don’t have time to think about what to put on, I can always chhose it and it’s good. Someday I will buy a full bottle of this.
Testing out diptyque’s new Kimonanthe. Started out as a leathery apricot and has now settled to a milky osmanthus. Quite lovely.
Sounds wonderful! I keep forgetting to stop in to try it.
Ooh! Didn’t know they put out a new one. Must go sniff!
I keep forgetting about this too! Maybe the NY NSTers should go on a sniffing field trip 😉
Hi Now Smell This,
Few days ago I came back home from my 2 weeks in Italy holiday trip and finally got some time to say hi to everyone.
I should be returning to my usual activity soon 🙂
Welcome back and I can’t wait for your return to your “usual activity!” 🙂
2 weeks in Italy, how lovely! Hope it was a great time off!
Welcome back, sweetie!
Hi Lucas! Did you visit the piti?
Of course I did!
The last two days have been stessful, but Sel de Vetiver carried me thorugh today. I’m actually looking foward to rain on the weekend just so I can spend most of the day on the sofa with books and good tv guilt free.
I look forward to a rainy day off for the same reason!
SOTD has been Parfumerie Generale “DjHenne”, which has a wheat note, a very smooth dry down, and lasting powers of 4-6 hours. I’ve enjoyed it for the day, and don’t need to hear from it again for a while. :^)
I like almost everything about my new laptop except I can’t do foreign accents any more other than in Word :^(
Very late today. En Passant, which is just a nanosecond on me unfortunately…. But it’s a lovely nanosecond….
Super late today. Started the day with the last vestiges of MFK Grand Soir and just now spritzed PdE Azemour for an end of day pick me up! Yum ????
Happy Hump Day!
5 days and counting!
Even later for me —
SOTD = ELDO Tilda Swinton Like This
On the fall harvest theme with the pumpkin note. I have a whole bunch of decants and they’re all I really need / want. I used 4 sprays and just when I thought it died at the 6-hour mark, it came out again.
How can it be only Wednesday when I feel like I’ve already worked 5 days? Onto tomorrow!
This week has been weird like that. I’ve lost track several times of what day it is.
