Happy Tuesday, and happy Toasted Marshmallow Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Wasabi Shiso. This is what I should have worn to wake me up yesterday.
Reminder: On 9/2, our project will be How far does the apple fall from the tree? Wear a pillar fragrance on one arm, and one of its flankers on the other. Suggested by Happy888cat.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

While it doesn’t smell of marshmallow, Kiss me Tender does smell appropriately sweet. I had not worn it for some time and it’s gorgeous.
Kiss Me Tender actually does remind me of marshmallows!
It reminds me of marzipan. By Kilian’s Love does remind me of marshmallows. Slightly screechy ones.
I’ll never cease to be surprised by the difference in olfactory perceptions/associations. It does make it fun, I think.
You’re both wrong, it smells like fluffy almond scented marshmallows. 🙂 Lovely. You smell beautiful today.
Maybe Elisa’s marshmallows, your fluffy almond scented marshmallows and my marzipan are one and the same thing after all 🙂
I’m sorry that one’s gone. Though Kiss Me Intense is pretty too, as a replacement.
I haven’t smelled it Mals. It looks like a spicier version according to the notes? Is it worth trying when I have the original?
First day back at work and keeping myself cheerful with a generous application of Rose Ikebana. I wonder if this week’s project gives me a reason to get some of the other Hemeressences in the tiny sizes?
I think you should! stay cheerful
I think I will…
Yes, this week’s project gives you a reason to get some of the other Hermessences in the tiny sizes. (But the way I look at it, almost every week’s project does that). :^)
The projects are scary things in that respect!
Yes, of course it does! Also, don’t forget those updates of classics, like Bel Ami Vetiver and Rose Amazone, although I’d recommend samples, mainly.
Ooh good point, they do also sound really interesting.
Pretty sure that is a requirement.
🙂
Where are the tiny sizes to be found? Are they available online?
Having looked it would appear the gift set of at least 4 minis can be bought online, but certainly the individual minis can be bought in the shops.
I love marshmallows..I haven’t had one in over a year. yum!
I splurged when STC had there sale on Guerlain, and I blind bought Mon Precieux Nectar and when I read the notes I was like..well..meh but the price is good..and if I don’t like it I can pass it on..
I really shocked myself on how much I like this, and I am not a what floral person at all. It just blooms on my skin but is not head ache inducing..
I am making the babies listen to Jazz this morning and sipping on MF Nocturne Oriental green tea.
I meant white floral not what floral lol
My SOTD has a similar story… Blind buy from TPC’s recent sale. I rationalized in exactly the same way. I bought Pichola and Trayee. Wearing Pichola today and I wasn’t sure if I liked it much at first – it was a bit sharp – but we’re an hour in now and it is quite lovely.
I love Pichola! You smell great.
Got that one too, haven’t tried it yet. Tried my LuckyScent Dusita Melodie de l’Amour…starts off quite nicely, but looks like a another top loaded scent…drydown’s nothing to write home about.
Drinking Upton Keemun…need substance this dreary morning.
I haven’t yet seen – smelled – what the fuss about the Dusita perfumes are. Issara is probably my favorite because it’s unusual, but I also need to retry Oudh Infini.
I am unfamiliar with this brand..I will have to check it out
It is truly beautiful, glad you are enjoying it.
it is..the lasting power is good too
Its the 2012 version but I am not sure how many versions there are..?
SOTD: Mr. Ford’s Orchid Soleil.
Lily and tuberose served on a bed of vanilla whipped cream.
I am back at work for the first day too. There is only the secretary and the custodian and me (school librarian) in the school right now, because the students come back next Tuesday. Therefore no one else can appreciate my Zeste de Soleil, but I can.
*librarian secret handshake* We smell good!
Hey, buddy! We sure do!
I cannot tell you how the idea of a *librarian secret handshake* brightened my day.
Ditto 🙂
Just finished off a sample of Sweet Redemption that was lying around. (I have more though!)
How do you like it? Is it very similar to Seville a L’Aube in your experience?
I’ve just received my sample of it. It’s very nice. Not an instant swoon like Beyond Love and the lavender one, but very, very nice.
Still wearing L de Lolita Lempicka and loving it.
On a related topic, does anyone have recommendations for a relatively easy to find vanilla lotion (preferably without too many competing notes that would make it difficult to layer with a range of vanilla perfumes)? A bunch of the posts I’ve seen on vanilla lotions were a few years old, so I’m curious if there’s anything recent (and/or simply still in production) and noteworthy out there. Thanks in advance!
Yves Rocher has one that I bought recently.
I LOVE the Bliss body butter in the vanilla bergamot scent. It smells very sophisticated.
I second the Bliss Vanilla Bergamot. I also love the Vanilla Body Butter I have from the Body Shop.
I third that.. I use it too. It’s very nice.
Vanilla Bergamot sounds amazing!
I really like the Josie Maran body butter in vanilla. I also find that Philosophy Fresh Cream layers well with my vanilla scents.
I love the aforementioned Bliss but my favorite layering vanilla lotion is Pacifica Island Vanilla body butter. I like the perfume too.
Oh yes that is a good one in all formulations (soap, body wash body butter, perfume roll on , edp, hand cream, reed diffuser)!!!!!
And the Pacifica is so affordable!
I don’t know if your drugstores sell Boot’s products, but they have an inexpensive vanilla body butter that is subtle. Also Les Couvents de Minimes Missions might make a lotion of that scent.
Wearing on my clothes Demeter Daffodil and testing on wrists Romanza (thank you Holly!)
No flankers for me so I don’t think I can participate in Fridays challenge.
Romanza is so nice!
it is! but so different from the Demeter! But I am liking them both!
Holly is a peach!
the very best 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
Hi! and thank you!
SOTD is Olfactive Studio’s “Still Life”.
Top: yuzu, elemi and pepper (pink, black and Sichuan pepper);
Mid: star anise and galbanum;
Base: dark rum, cedar and ambrox.
Actually, this is another ‘duplicate’, something in the June Blooms pack that I’ve had before (from Blooms I could swear – I need to see if they’re repeating themselves and complain if so). It’s a slight, yuzu-inflected thing that I have no use for.
I do not like thee, Doctor Fell,
The reason why – I cannot tell;
But this I know, and know full well,
I do not like thee, Doctor Fell.
(But I think it has a lot to do with how Dr Fell evaporates into nothingness in no time at all. That and the pepper. Oh, and when I spray it on something catches in my throat like sand)
On second thoughts:
I do not like thee Dr Fell, for reasons that are various and manifold.
Still Life is probably my least favourite in that line. I love Lumiere Blanche and really like Panorama, though.
I think my favourite so far has been Chambre Noir, which I found warm-toned and subtle. I liked Lumière Blanche for its cardamom opening and aromatic dry-down, and Panorama was fresh and harmonious but very short-lived on my skin. :^)
Yes, Chambre Noire is nice and my third-favourite – but LB and Panorama last well on me, so that’s a factor too.
Chambre Noire and Ombre Indigo are my favourites.
I have only tried Lumiere Blanche..
You have inspired me to wear Flash Back; it keeps getting forgotten in the back of my perfume cabinet.
Assam tea for a hot SoCal day. Another row of elephants disappearing!
On a sweet memory note, 52 years ago today my sister and I saw the Beatles
What a memory.
And these elephants are cute.
So sweet Anniky
My dads 40th birthday standing in line with his girls waiting before the concert. Today would have been his 92nd.
Lucky you! What a great memory. At first I thought, it couldn’t have been 52 years. Then I remembered what year it is . lol, the older I get, everything seems like it was just yesterday.
Oh lovely! Assam is such a perfect summer scent! And it is fun to watch those elephant rows whittle down 🙂 I have done the same all summer long (now my niece has taken possession of my bottle!)
Not sure which I love more, the perfume or the elephants!
My vote goes to the elephants.
Both 🙂
I have so enjoyed getting to know this perfume house which was completely unknown to me until July.
I can’t see anything elephant related in an antique shop (several recently) without thinking of Assam and NST’s elephant lovers. 🙂
That’s a very sweet memory. I bet it was a great concert!
When I was really young, we used to live near Macca’s home in Tucson, and my mom saw him several times grocery shopping–with Stella in the grocery cart. She said ladies would follow him for an autograph, so she just left him alone. So I tell her now, “But, Mom, he could’ve taught me how to play guitar left-handed, and I could’ve been friends with Stella!!!” ????
Man in Black (Bvlgari). Very understated.
Wearing Dolce & Gabbana Rose the One from a sample and I am grateful it was drying up. This is really a boring, synthetic, fruity- floral scent. I find it loud, cloying and headache inducing. As soon as it fades off (hoping… so far 4 hours and still there very strong), I will need something lighter, sunnier and more cheerful.
I’m in another of Robin’s layering recommendation: Tam Dao with Philosykos. I really like this combination – it’s fresh yet spicy and warm. Interesting line to walk, and perfect for the somewhat transitional weather we’re having. I may be the only person at my office (and am certainly the only person in my home) who is looking forward to the predicted rain later this week.
Realized I hadn’t worn Virgin Island Water yet this summer so I spritzed that on, not realizing it was marshmallow day. Will have to spray on some Vanitas later to sweeten myself up! I love s’mores.
I enjoyed using up my sample on a very warm night in Paris! :^)
I’m wearing OJ Vanille d’Iris again, because I discussed it with Hamamelis yesterday. Plus a little Chanel Eau de Cologne to check the longevity. It’s gone now, but it lasts OK for a cologne (on me).
We’re twins! I like it very very much. My husband just came home and complimented me on my scent (he is interested in perfume but often a bit too busy to notic it, I think..). This is so typical of Vanille d’Iris (and possibly other OJ’s): gorgeous sillage. I smelled it on a SA some time ago, and remarked how lovely it was. Vanille d’Iris she said!
As I plan to send you a package anyway, I might as well through in some VdI – I have a big bottle that I’ll never get through by myself.
That is very kind indeed. Thank you so much.
*throw, obviously
Chanel Cologne reminds me of my honeymoon..smelled wonderful on the islands and like cleaning detergent on my island of Manhattan
I read your list about Korean beauty on your blog
It smells pretty good to me everywhere, but that’s the thing with scents – can’t trust them to smell the same to everyone!????
The list is pretty old already, but I’m going to Japan in the end of October and do some Asian beauty specials after that.
I was just reading your description of Chanel Eau de Cologne on your blog today 🙂 It sounds like a lovely summer scent. (Also, your blog makes me so happy!)
It’s justa very good cologne. And thank you! ☺️
Nahema today. I was noticing that I’m almost out of all my favorite samples. Time to decide if I need to buy full bottles or just bigger decants. . . .
Wearing Arquiste’s The Architect’s Club. It’s not quite marshmallow – I’ve lost my taste for the sweeter scents of my younger days – but I’ve become slightly obsessed by this sophisticated, easy to wear, unisex, dry-woody vanilla. It’s good in the heat, and will be great in the colder months, too. My best purchase this year!
Oh have to check out my sample. I’m uncertain about vanilla, but this sounds good.
It’s not a very vanilla vanilla – I’m not a fan of the note, but I can easily wear this. I was a bit disappointed in it because I expected it to be darker (all that leather and wood in the description), but I have the candle and it’s very nice. And then Nanban turned out to be pretty much what I wanted from TAC, so all is well 🙂
SOTD is Guerlain Terracotta. Don’t know why I haven’t worn this more often this summer – it smells great.
I’m wearing Burberry My Burberry EDP today. Perfect for a warm rainy day off. I’ve been watching YouTube perfume videos this morning. Im fascinated how differently people can perceive the same fragrance. Also, at how loosely the word fresh is used.
Wasabi Shiso is on my next DSH samples list — it sounds great! I’m spending another day in the stuffy, windowless conference room in close quarters with several colleagues for interviews, so I’m wearing Pulp. NO, I jest. I’m wearing Lush Orange Blossom, and I smell like what I imagine weddings in the 30’s smelled like.
Ha ha! I love this image/scent combination. I wore fake orange blossoms on my wedding headpiece. Too bad this perfume had not been born yet.
That earth apple image is very odd…. but somehow fascinating to look at.
I’m in Chloe today. Almost done with the mini of this. Over the weekend I went to the basement to grab more decants/samples to use up and am starting to hit the heavy autumn/winter scents. The weather needs to cool down STAT!
In other news, our kitchen looks like a set from a Fallout game (for any gamers or parents with kids who may know of this one). We are redoing the back splash and took down the 70s Formica this past weekend. It’s kinda fascinating looking at the history of a home. Ours was build in ’53 and started out with wallpaper (that we’ve found traces of under layers of mastic and thinset), then tiles (clearly indicated by old adhesives) and then the Formica. We are stripping all that down to put up some tiles again. The kitchen has been so depressing because the previous owners REALLY liked warm tones, but their choice of runny poo brown and yellow bile wall paint really doesn’t make anything feel appetizing. This long weekend we’ll be adding some cool color tones and hopefully some much lighter and appealing paint colors.
Good luck with your kitchen remodeling!
Thanks. Fingers crossed all goes well.
This made me laugh and I am full of admiration at the remodelling. I am currently mid way or so through the second renovation project in a row and feeling slightly exhausted but also excited by the whole thing.
I have to admit, I’m a bit nervous about it. This is our first remodeling project and we’ve never done anything like this before, but we’ve been doing lots of research on it. It also helps that the husband’s father is an expert carpenter (started out as a carpenter and is now VP of the company) and is always willing to help us out. If this goes well our next project may be the bathroom!
Hey, you’re doing kitchen archaeology! ???? It is interesting to look at all the layers of changes, isn’t it? Hope it goes well and you love the results.
Milk of Flowers for me. In vacation countdown mode–a week from today I’ll be headed to Copenhagen for a little birthday trip. Happiness.
What a lovely way to celebrate your birthday, have fun!
Sounds like fun! I was there for the beginning and end of my Baltic cruise last year – nice!
I’m wearing the very enigmatic and abstract ALAÏA today!
You smell great!
[Sniffs appreciatively] Nice choice!
This one is on my full bottle wishlist.
I am sampling Carthusia Mediterraneo today, one of the samples I ordered earlier this month after someone mentioned that Smallflower.com has free shipping, even on samples. It went on with a blast of lemon, real lemon, fruit and peel, not Lemon Pledge. The mint aspect is now apparent, which I like. I don’t like sample dabbers, I prefer sprays or ideally minis, so you can get a real sense of the scent. I do like this, but it is not unlike many other summer scents that I already own, including Herba Fresca.
I’m wearing Carthusia Fiori di Capri, a bottle my neighbor brought me from Italy. This one is a pretty lily of the valley. Would love to try more in this line.
That someone was me 🙂
Glad you took advantage of that 🙂 It is a nice way to treat yourself for three dollars, right? Won’t break the budget!
Delrae Wit today which is decidedly cheerful. Also testing a small spritz of JHAG Romantina on my hand. I haven’t had much luck with others from this line, but this one is a pretty enough honeyed, musky orange blossom. Maybe a bit unchallenging or uninteresting, but sometimes that’s a good thing.
I really need to find my decant of Wit. It’s almost empty, though.
I haven’t tried an JHAG scents either. I was curious about citizen queen but have read too many conflicting reviews about this line in general.
The ones I liked best were Lady Vengeance and Mad Madame, both roses, and both headache inducing. I haven’t tried CQ since I haven’t seen it at Sephora.
Hope today is better than yesterday
Yes, it definitely started off better, although the rest of my day yesterday was fine. Thanks for asking!
I’m wearing Ninféo Mio today, which is about the opposite of toasted marshmallow. Yesterday was Vétiver Tonka though and that does have a very nice toasted or caramelised note.
It was the toasted hazelnuts of Vetiver Tonka that sold me on it! :^)
I dumped my sample of Tagete on this morning. Fortunately it was about half gone already, as these Profumum’s are strong. I really like this one, although there are now so many in the line I want it’s going to have to wait it’s turn. Others have favorites? I’ve got 18ml sprays of Aqua Viva and Aqua di Sale and a big Arso – amazing and amazing packaging – and it will be joined by Ambra Aurea soon. And maybe an 18ml Olibanum. Oh dear.
I love lots of these – Vanitas, Dulcis in Fundo, Olibanum, Arso, Fumidus, Ambra Aurea, Fiori d’Ambra, Rosae Mundi, Meringa – would love to have Tagetes too. Such a great line.
Not fond of sweet perfumes, so the closest I’d be willing to get to marshmallow would be Kenzo Amour.
I tried Hermes Galop yesterday, and my first thought was, this is what Rose Amazone should have smelled like. It’s as if someone had said, nope, that’s a bit harsh and there’s not enough rose, go fix it, and they had. Of course, it still lacks the loveliness of original Amazone because of IFRA, etc.
I’ll try Rose Amazone again when the weather is less humid, but right now I’m not taken with it. The rose is nicely done, but I was promised leather, too. *sulks*
So today I’m wearing AG Vetiver because my nose loves it without reservation.
Did you love it? Want to buy?
Robin, it was not love at first sniff, but I’ve only tested it once so far. Also, keep in mind that I dislike Osmanthe Yunnan and Vetiver Tonka, which many people love.
I have trouble with this line too. They just do not smell good to me or on me. Sur la Nil is the only love from Hermes fragrances for me.
I like that, too, and love many of the classics. Of the Hermessences, my favorites are Iris Ukioye and Cuir d’Ange. Some of them have new aromachemicals, or combinations of contrasting notes, that I’m just not comfortable with, Epice Marine being the most difficult with its combination of savory spice notes, such as cumin, and aquatic notes. I’m not sure about Galop yet.
Thanks.
Wearing Poudre de Ritz compliments of the lovely Elisa P. Such a pretty and easy scent to wear.
Opps that should be… Poudre de Riz…
????You smell pretty and girlie! It’s light enough that I’ve worn it this summer, but I think it’ll make a nice, snuggly, sweater scent.
I agree and probably great for layering too. I think you did that last week?
Yes, with Dita Von Teese, which is almost used up. Still sitting in my Beautyspin cart.
SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Supra Floral
I found my sample set and I went right to it. Supra Floral – I like! It reminds me of a denser yet more powdery version of Jacomo Silences! It seems to be morphing every so often – i got hay and tobacco notes which I haven’t seen any reviews mention but then it could be just my honker on its own planet. I am also getting anber which is listed as a note. I am considering doing a split of this during Splitmeet!
Lindaloo, thanks for posting the links yesterday.
Thanks for the reminder! I need to try this Supra Floral again while we still have summer weather. I remember it as the runner up to Oriental Express when I tried them some months ago. I love the way this Les Exceptions series creates futuristic versions of perfume classics.
The series is very well done. I have to search for a source for the refill version to see how much cheaper it is.
Ah, good idea!
I really want to try Woodissime; I haven’t been to the city lately but think maybe I should get out there and see if Nordstrom has it.
Have you tried the Cuir? That seems to be divisive. Woodissime sounds like it could be really good. For science, please report back!
Cuir was not good on me, very vegetal and no leather, but I have high hopes for Woodissime, which will be available here in Montreal in October.
I gave my sample of Supra Flora to my girlfriend, since she has a greater love for florals. I think this line is very well done. My favorite is Over the Musk.
I am a long way from a marshmallow today, too. I sampled Bogue Maai last night and had a wonderful evening huffing my wrists, but I already own a lot of animalic scents. I might keep my eyes peeled for a partial bottle or a decant, though. Today I’m wearing Indult Reve en Cuir. It’s pretty, but not FBW. Oh, and thanks everyone for their shoe insert recommendations. I’ll try to find some that work in my not-often-worn ballet flats.
If you like animalics, have you tried Eris “Ma Bête”? And if so, what did you think of it? :^)
I haven’t tried it yet–Fumerie (a perfume store here in Portland) just got it in recently and I haven’t visited them since. I’ll get there sometime in Sept.
In Eau de Magnolia today…
I am longing for fall/winter fragrances but it is supposed to be hot today. EdM is lovely and great in the heat.
I almost think it is the perfect heat fragrance if you want something other than a cologne in feel. Plus its really beautiful and always feels as though it sparkles when I wear it (not sure why I haven’t bought any come to think of it)!
La Colle Noire today. I am ready for fall.
So pretty. I have to pull out my decant of that!
I have a large sample and that may last me a while. Have you tried the Dior Elixir Precieux (single note oil)? I like Musk, Amber and Rose. The Oud was too too for me.
I haven’t! I will have to look this one up.
*these
They sound nice but $$$$$. Wish they weren’t so expensive (and small).
:-). Some good things come in small packages!
Me too! Can’t wait for sweaters, boots and huge oriental perfumes.
yes. yes. and yes.
I’m wearing Chanel Coco today. I know its hot, and I should save it for cooler weather, but I’m staying in today and getting some paperwork done. I shouldn’t be out in the heat much at all today.
Call me weird, but sometimes I like the way Coco smells on warm skin. Warm, not sweaty, lol
Not weird at all. I prefer some of my heavier orientals in the heat, especially in the evening. They really bloom nicely.
Nope, not weird. I like Coco year round, just less of it in the summer. It’s such a delicious scent.
Toasted marshmallow…great :/
I was doing so good not stopping into Insomnia Cookies to get my favorite S’mores cookie but now, I want one! They’re delicious and addictive. Bad combo.
SOTD is Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile edt
1) you smell lovely
2) there’s an Insomnia Cookies dangerously close to me right now and that sounds sooo good.
SOTD is Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc. For the last days of August I wanted to wear something summery.
SOTD is Lumiere Noire Pour Femme by MFK. I always feel very feminine when I wear this. I like that the patchouli gives it a bit of oomf. And today I need some of that oomf!
Yesterday was my birthday, so I decided to treat myself to a few fancy (read: insanely pricey) candles. I rarely ever go shopping, so it felt so bad (and yet so good!) indulging in some much-needed retail therapy.
Anyone have a favorite candle they buy again and again? I want to add more to my list……you know, for next time. 😉
Happy Birthday, Bookgirl! I thought of you when I added a new owl watercolor to my collection! I don’t burn candles at home but have one that I leave open / unlit in my closet: Roja Dove Christmas Candle which is smoky gourmand and has everything but the kitchen sink. I’ve had it out for 9+ months and it is still scenting the closet. If Roja Dove ever makes a perfume like that, it will bubble up to the top of my To Try / To Buy list.
Ooh, congrats on the new owl! I imagine you name all the owls in your collection…..or is that just me? lol
I’m adding the Christmas Candle to the list – thanks for the rec! 🙂
Happy Birthday! A great reason to treat yourself and you deserve your treats ???? Which did you get?
I’m on my second Le Labo Santal candle, but I think I’m a little over that one. The ones I use the most are Voluspa Gardenia Colonia and Votivo Deep Clover, and a cheapie from Marshall’s House and Home(?) in a honey scent.
I was a little naughty….I blame my awesome birthday spirit. :-p
I got:
-Frederic Malle Notre Dame (church-like, also green and lovely)
-Cire Trudon Abd el Kader (gorgeous mint tea)
-Byredo Bohemia (powdery, serene)
-Byredo Burning Rose (gorgeous rose)
Happy belated Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! I’m enjoying a fig tree candle from Cloon Keen Atelier. :^)
Happy belated birthday! I used to buy the Diptyque Seringa candles but it is discontinued. Pomander is another favorite.
Happy birthday to you!
Fun to treat yourself like that, especially if you don’t do so regularly like (ahem) some of us..
Right now my favorite candle is Voluspa’s Linden & Dark Moss. It’s a beauty!
the candle that I buy over and over is Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple
I second Pacifica for candles! They’re a great value.
Looking up Pacifica candles stat…..
I sniffed an MFK candle at Arielle Shoshana that was amazing: the perfect boudoir scent. I think it was Cologne pour le Soir; definitely something pour le Soir.
I don’t usually use scented candles, but I do like to always have Annick Goutal Noël votives on hand for December.
I’ve been meaning to try that Noel candle. I used to have Cire Trudon’s Nazareth candle, which was a perfect spicy orange candle perfect for winter.
Happy belated birthday!
Like perfume, I never actually finish candles, so I haven’t had to replace one yet, but I do have the MFK Pour Le Soir candle and the Arquiste Art Deco Velvet candle, and both are pretty spectacular.
Happy Belated Birthday! And you smell great.
Happy belated Birthday! Sounds like a nice one.
Happy Birthday, bookgirl!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes and candle recommendations, everyone! Really appreciate it.
I’m wearing Chamade today. I love it but my husband says it smells like bug spray 🙁
Then in my quest to find a vetiver fragrance I like, I have a spot of Mona d’Orio Les nombre d’or Vetyver on my wrist. Lime and vetiver sounds like a good idea but it just doesnt work on me. Oh well.
Have you tried Chanel Sycomore? Nice smoky Vetiver.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve only smelled stuff like No. 5, No 19, No 22. Coco. It’s too bad since so many sound so great. I need to make a trip to Chicago I guess.
I have a sample of Vetiver Dance fron Tauer but that sometimes goes all swampmonster on me…
He must use some great smelling bug spray! I think you smell wonderful. I’m not a huge vetiver person, but the only one I owned and wore was Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire which was more grassy than smoky-and maybe why I liked it.
I totally forgot I have a sample of that! Scent of tomorrow, Thanks!
Oh, and it’s some Raid flying insect spray, I swear someone at Raid thought giving it a galbanum-hyacinth smell would be a great idea, but it wasnt, because now I cant wear Jacomo Silences anymore.
Ha! Yes, I keep saying I wish they’d stop scenting household products so we wouldn’t have the negative associations.
Etro Palais Jamais is my current favorite.
It’s definitely worth trying Annick Goutal Vetiver.
Second that, and will add Encre Noir, Racine, Route du Vetiver and Etro Vetiver to the list.
Seconding Sycomore. Have you tried ELdO’s Fat Electrician yet?
Just got home from the vet. Dabbled on no 19, which is almost gone. After no 19 is totally gone, I will wear Shalimar.
Excellent choices!
AG Vetiver cologne for a little pick me up this morning. I’m craving a heavy hitter for later…maybe Boucheron or Ambre Sultan or 24 Faubourg maybe? Hmmm…
I’ve also amped it up for the evening, wearing Rundholz “Sept.21.1966”. This is so rich and complex – it even smells different depending on whether I hold my wrist to my nose (rhubarb) or not (smoky wood or leather). Gonna have to try this one more attentively another time! :^)
Have you tried their first one, April 3. 1968? Animalic incense bomb, I love it.
Oh, yes, I loved it and sprung for the full bottle this Summer! I am looking forward to wearing it in cooler weather.
This one (Sep) hasn’t had the same immediate impact on me as the first, but it knocks the socks of most of what I’ve been sampling for the last 3 weeks. :^D
Annick Goutal lovely Duel is the SOTD.
I recently have been in search of a lasting green perfume. They all seem to expire on my skin within half an hour. Any suggestions?
I am sure you have already tried it but n19 in edp is pretty lasting I find. Oddly 0 de Lancôme also seems to last a lot longer than I would expect and leaves a lovely trace of warm oakmoss (or something with that feel) at the end of a warm day.
In a YMMV situation,, No.19 is not terribly long lasting on me. This is one of my 8 sprays will do ya perfumes.
Try a sample of Nishane “Boszporusz”, a bitter dark salty green on me when I tried it last (only last night).
Amouage “Gold Man” has good lasting power and I found it rather greener than suits my personal tastes!
Gabriella Chieffo “Hystera” I found had strong green notes mixed with earth and flowers. Some people don’t care for the aromachemicals of the drydown, but it’s worth a sample. (I went for a FB myself)
Tom Ford “Italian Cypress” is easy enough to find. “Ombre de Hyacinthe” less so, but worth it if you like the idea of a green floral
Chanel “Bel Respiro” is very sedate and didn’t last long on me so probably not worth bothering with.
Ys-Uzac “Pohadka” is a green leather, as is Memo “Irish Leather”, so whether you like them depends a lot on how you feel about leather. (I don’t usually like that note – my notes on the memo say “parsnips and shoe polish”!)
Alvarez Gómez “Agua de Colonia Concentrada Barbería” is citrus-and-green, refreshing but as an EDC it has no great lasting power.
My SOTD Mugler Supra Flora is very green and very long lasting (12+ hours).
BTW, I saw something surprising recently when sales assistant accidentally dropped one of the black Tom Ford bottles on a tile floor. I expected the bottle to shatter, but it was completely unscathed – not even a chipped corner! Little pieces of the glazed tile flew up into the air, though.
Those bottles must be made of a special glass, similar to Pyrex or Corning ware. That seems like a valuable safety feature, since people often keep perfume in bathrooms.
Amazing! :^)
Reminds me of an experiment we tried when I was in high school at a friend’s house where they had Corning Ware dishes. She said they were break-proof so we dropped a dish on the tile floor and it shattered into a hundred pieces. We decided they were “break” proof, but not “shatter” proof. Impressive about the TF bottle, though!
Reminds me of the Hundred Reasons album title “Shatterproof Is Not A Challenge”, which the other Mr Koenigsberg and I laugh at ruefully. He has something of a history of, shall we say, testing things to their limits and beyond. ;^)
I saw a woman drop a bottle of one of the summery TF scents in the blue/green bottles, though, and it did not fare so well. I guess it’s hard to hide rebar in a translucent bottle. 🙂
SotD = Guerlain AA Tiare Mimosa, very floral, very beautiful.
Love the apple world picture, cleverly thoughtful. In case any Kenzo fans missed it, the short film (via Spike Jonze!) for the Kenzo World fragrance is a blast. It reminded me of SJ’s video for Weapon of Choice. Now I want to watch a Christopher Walken movie.
I loved the video! I’ll be curious to try World, but the scent itself sounds tamer than her Exorcist dance.
Ha! exorcist dance indeed.
I love that video! Have you ever seen the famous SNL Cowbell sketch? It’s the other thing I immediately associate with Christopher Walken.
More cowbell! 😀
Put on a little Bottega Veneta as many people mentioned it yesterday, but my sample spray is almost empty! I haven’t worn it much this summer so it’s either the evaporative curse or faulty memory here. I’ll have to top up with something exciting later.
Late today! 🙂
SOTD: Escada Born in Paradise
I chose Dries van Noten today, and I am loving it. It’s still hotter than Hades down here, but it’s cooled down enough (to a mere 90 degrees) that I felt comfortable wearing it. I smell gosh darned lovely.
(And maybe like a very classy marshmallow?)
Great choice!
Hello out there. In here, I’m wearing the memory of Queen, which is all sort of soft and … well, soft. Queen starts off quite upright and then loses her knees and gets a bit saggy and boneless as time wears by. I rather like this effect. It’s like a jersey I have (where is it, I wonder?) that was knitted in slightly scratchy wool that has softened and loosened with washing and has now taken on my shape instead of its own.
Hey, all NST in the USA: you guys get the BEST national days! Toasted marshmallows! I’ve never eaten one -not sure I’ve ever eaten an untoasted one, come to that–but what a gorgeously sweet, peaceful thing to celebrate! Eat many, and spare a thought for me: one day, I shall visit the States again, and I will try this exotic treat!
It’s great fun to toast marshmallows over a bonfire after summer evening picnics or, best of all, around bonfires burning leaves in the autumn.
People also like to sprinkle miniature marshmallow all over the top of a casserole full of chunked sweet potatoes and bake until the sweet potatoes are soft and the marshmallows are melted and browned on top. (The sweet potatoes would also have been sprinkled with some brown sugar and butter, making them more or less caramelized, depending on how much was added.) This is an old-fashioned side dish to serve along with the roast turkey on Thanksgiving. You do need to have a sweet tooth to really appreciate it!
Wow! That does sound sweet. But compelling. I can imagine it being one of those dishes that creates nostalgia — “No one makes sweet potato casserole like Mum/Granny/Great Aunt Flossie…” That sort of thing. I’m not sure I could cope with it — our local version of sweet potato is called “kumara”, and it’s too sweet for me on its own, without assistance from brown sugar and marshmallows. However, I can see the dear man revelling in such a dish, and getting me to make enough to last a couple of nights. Which I would, because I love him, even though I don’t understand his fondness for sweet food and white chocolate.
Of course, if you’re a small boy, the marshmallow usually ends up as a torch instead of nicely browned (but how would a type a sort of person know that?).
In The Bleu again since it looks like we’ll be getting some lovely late summer weather.
Testing 31 Rue Cambon, but I am one of the few where it doesn’t quite agree with me, so will be switching to something else later on. We have a parents’ meeting to go to tonight for my son’s cross-country team. Should be interesting. The coach has been so-so on communication.
PSA–the Neiman Marcus beauty event GWP will be September 8-18. I got a flier in the mail today. The tote bag looks nice. $125 minimum purchase. There are some shampoo samples, a nail file, a facial cloth, Genefique serum, an Au The Noir towelette, and Starck Paris D’ailleurs EDP sample. So, not so generous on the samples as they used to be. I think I may wait for the Scent Event, which I think is usually in November or December.
Oy vey, I will go with the Barneys event since I need to replenish La Mer anyway and will be exceeding the qualifying purchase amount.
I know. The scent event is usually a small evening bag with lots of fragrance samples and a lower minimum purchase requirement, so I am going to wait for that.
Toasted Marshmallow Day!?! Yaaay! They are one of my absolute favorite things. Having not been camping for years, I’ve taken to making them with the fireplace in the winter. And I’ve mastered making s’mores in the dead of summer using a toaster oven!
SOTD is No. 5 from the Chanel counter–EDT on one arm and EDP on the other, since I’ve never done a side-by-side comparison before. Still can’t quite decide which I prefer. Or whether I really like wearing it.
I scored samples of Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon and Rose at Sephora. Can’t wait to test them.
Toaster ovens are great. I smelled the new Nirvanas on paper, but I need to go back and smell them again.
No marshmallows here, sorry (though I should probably stock up for the weekend). Hint: the Lindt chocolate bars with sea salt make fabulous gourmet s’mores.
Sycomore tonight. Perfect.
Those sea-salt s’mores sound fabulous. I love the Lindt sea salt bars anyway.
Oh dear, so late coming on here. So many great comments! Earlier today I put on the last two drops of Black flower Mexican Vanilla – it’s like a toasted vanilla cupcake on me. So delicious! Then I had a kind of weird day working. So when I got home, I used up the very last drops of two spray samples of Coromandel. Not quite marshmallow, but it could almost be a burnt marshmallow on the end of an antique lacquer weenie stick. with white chocolate sauce and a cannabis sprinkles.
Oh my gosh, looks like my icon has gone all gator-aide chartreuse. Is that punishment for not posting enough? 🙂
Can’t do BFMV but love Coromandel. I hadn’t noticed the toasted sugar note before, but it does lean that way. You smell wonderful and I’m going to go sneak a dab on for bedtime.
It’s nothing you did 😉 I think that everyone’s avatars switched it up a few days ago. I like chartreuse, in any case.
Really, they did? I did not even notice. Looks like there is some problem with the gravatar service at wordpress, sorry.
