Monday morning, sorry! What fragrance are you wearing?
I am still in shock from getting up so early for the first day of school. The Different Company Adjatay is doing its best to wake me up but it's hard going.
Reminder: On 9/2, our project will be How far does the apple fall from the tree? Wear a pillar fragrance on one arm, and one of its flankers on the other. Suggested by Happy888cat.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I woke up this morning and felt like I needed some Sandalwood Bliss..
So I am in Samsara…my bliss
How are you doing with the first day of school Robin? Did you have time to make tea? or coffee…
Blissful, indeed. You smell great!
You smell woooonderful. I can’t wait to get back to my sandalwoods and heavier scents.
Samsara is beautiful!
You smell great!
Yum, you smell lovely- and perfect for the crisp morning we are having now!
You know, I complain but all I have to do is get up and make a quick breakfast and make sure my son actually leaves the house. 6:15 is just so darned early!
And I ought to stop doing it because he is 18 now — wouldn’t it be better for him to just do it himself? Another notch towards “real” adulthood?? Yeah, that’s my thinking 🙂
Let me know how you make out with that…
😉
Probably. I learned all that from my mother-in-law, who made all of her kids fend for themselves in middle school for things like making lunch, getting places on time, tidying ( or not) their rooms. They are all independent, but very dedicated to their parents.
Your mother-in-law is very wise to let her kids fly solo and learn life skills early. I have to bite my tongue and turn a blind eye while my teenagers cope with the alarm clock, the laundry, minor meal planning, and day-to-day kitchen chores on their own, i.e. if there are no clean spoons, it might be because “someone” left them all in the sink or on the bedroom floor. Better to learn now than later.
They will really thank you later, if they aren’t already, in a non direct teenage way. Our son recently thanked us for making him do something himself that he complained bitterly about 10 years ago. It was unexpected, but so nice to hear.
Taking notes…
I know. I was getting myself ready for school at about 12 years old.
Yeah.
Thanks all ..I love sandalwoods <3 Samsara seems to hit the nail on the head for me. But this is an "older" bottle that is clear with a red top..
Eau de Guerlain. Summer in a bottle 🙂
very nice!
Yes it is!
House twins
Eau de Guerlain = perfection
House twin. (Cologne du Parfumeur for me.)
How are you finding the Adjatay, Robin? I wouldn’t have thought that a “narcotic” leather would be much help with wakefulness. 😉 I’m in a completely different sort of leather today: Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur. It almost feels like fall this morning – cool and crisp and sunny. It won’t last, but it’s lovely to be up early enough to enjoy it.
Yeah, I probably should have gone with a sharp citrus, but it was what was sitting on my desk. This is the third or fourth time I’ve tried it, and it’s really nice but failing to capture my affections, not sure why. Might need to put it away until the weather gets cooler.
SOTD The work-meeting-appropriate Bottega Veneta.
I only have to be in our Bronx office for our monthly meetings, which is good since it takes me about an hour and 45 min by public transport to get there. Got an email announcing our mtg would be in the 29th so I was there bright and early and I was the only one there. Turns out it is for SEPT 29th!! Ugh. Monday, indeed. Now I’m making the hour+ trek back to Manhattan. Hope everyone’s week is starting more smoothly than mine!
Oh no!!! Hope you have a better day!!!
Thanks! There are worse things, really.
OY. I am so, so sorry. At least you smell fantastic!
Thanks!:I just want to go back to bed. But, yes, smelling good is a consolation.
Oh my. I hope the rest of the day is easy. You smell great.
Thanks!
How irritating. At least you smell nice.
Thank you, and the new kitty gravitar=adorable!
Thank you. Doolittle does adorable very well. It makes her Venus Hand Trap extra effective.
Venus Hand Trap ????
OH my goodness…seriously! I hope you treat yourself to a coffee and tea with all your running around
How about 3 cups by 10:30 am?
I have done that a few times! I get my months wrong or whatever. Thankfully I don’t have such a long commute for a meeting, but it is always a frustrating mistake.
Better than missing it, I suppose. They’re very good about sending reminders the week before, so that should have been my clue to double check.
Oh, I’m sorry… But I did have to chuckle. When those things happen, all you can do is tell yourself, “at least it’ll make a good story.” And it did!
Ha! Thanks. I hope to not have a repeat performance. I’m actually thinking of asking if they can Skype me in in Sept ????
I’m the only one in my dept who lives in NYC. Everyone else lives in Wetchester and drives in.
Oh, no! That stinks. But you smell lovely! 😉
Thanks! Enjoy your WFH day.
Oh dear. Sorry! Hope the rest of your day is better!
Oh wow how annoying but also this made me laugh as it’s the sort of thing I do too and then feel both annoyed and amused at my ability to do these things. How the rest of your day was better.
Ugh! I’ll try to remind you on Confucius’ birthday.
Fun poll idea!
I discovered a handful of samples that were on the verge of drying up so I made it my project to finish them off in the next few days. Today I’m in the last bit of Diaghilev.
You smell like a thousand bucks ???? I did a side-by-side of that with Jubliation 25 over the weekend, since they remind me of each other. The Roja is unbelievably smooth and dense, but I prefer the dirtiness of Jubliation, I think. It’s also less sweet.
I need to do this. I’m sure I have loads of samples that are on their last legs.
it’s really spray samples (which I prefer) that evaporate, the little 1 ml vials usually last a very long time. definitely worth checking your collection over to see if any are about to die!
That’s a great idea. Over the summer it seemed spray samples evaporated before my eyes. I decided that meant use them up faster. 😀
Great idea! So satisfying to use up samples and jettison the vials into the trash.
SOTD is Mugler Chyprissime. Spent most of the weekend scentless due to an attack of seasonal allergies and hoping today will be better!!
Are you enjoying it? the Chyprissime I mean, allergies are a nuisance.
Ugh, feel better, allergies can be awful. My son needs to use his Nasonex more often but can’t be bothered half the time.
I wore L de Lolita Lempicka all weekend, and still can’t get enough. I’m SO sad that when I tried it back in 2006 or 2007, I decided it was too sweet and talked myself out of buying a bottle.
I recently saw some on Evilbay.
I don’t think it’s that obsolete. I’ve seen it at some online discounters and I actually got my little gift set at a brick n mortar perfume discounter last summer.
I’m in shock at the early wake up for school too. Kiddo was in PM kindergarten last year, which was so nice! SOTD is Ormonde Jayne Seraphim.
Hey, kiddo went into first grade? What fun!
It’s my first day of school too, Robin! Well, kind of–it’s my first day in lab in a month, after vacation and a conference. It’s not even 16:30 yet, and I’m already exhausted. Ugh.
In order to make my transition back to normal life a bit easier, I put on the imminently easy-to-wear Lollia Imagine. Not even a bit challenging, just sweet and coconutty and jasminey and what I am slowly but surely learning is lotusy.
Hope it gets easier for us both tomorrow 🙂
Still commando, even though it’s late afternoon. I might actually put some perfume on in a bit.
Made up mind and put on some Songes EDP.
You smell lovely and very beautiful! Songes is one of the most sensual BWF fragrances!
Gorgeous and we’re house twins.
Divine Spirituelle.
I’m also trying to decide whether to add a trip to the Divine boutique while in Paris next week. My “Paris Perfume Day” is starting to get crowded, lol. Its a good problem to have though ! 🙂
It’s a lovely shop! And you smell great today.
How much time have you got left in your Côte d’Azur schedule? Nice is such a beautiful city and has wonderful museums, if you like that kind of thing.
darn, I answered in the wrong place.
We have 3 1/2 days in the Cote d’Azur area. One day is a “free” day for us to visit any nearby cities.
Nice certainly looks appealing 🙂
Oooh – so jealous of your trip! What else is on the agenda?
We spend two day in Paris, then three days in Bordeaux and three and half days in Cannes 🙂
We will stay in Cannes for 3 nights. The first night we can explore Cannes. The second day we are going to Grasse for the day. Third day is an organized tour of Eze, Rothschild Ephrussi villa & gardens and Monacco. I think we have one free day, and we’d like to visit Nice.
The travel agent recommended Biot.
Austenfan, someone recommended St. Paul Vence last week. It may have been you. That also looked like a beautiful place to visit.
It was me. If I’d recommend sites in that area Grasse and Cannes would not make it to the top of my list. Although I enjoyed visiting the Fragonard sights. You’ll just have an excuse to visit again! And Eze is very beautiful as well.
Agree about Eze…I was just there in July!
It will reach the 90’s for the first day of school. It is always a time of hopeful anticipation. Good luck to everyone!
No. 19 and No. 19 Poudre. No. 19 EDT is a tenacious, classic galbanum/iris stalwart. Poudre has become soft, sweet, and musky after the powder iris opening. No. 19 is perfect for the first day of school, even if it’s a scorcher.
I will need to refresh myself later this afternoon with No 19 to keep me going through the day. Definitely good for the first day of school. No 19 is good for just about everything!
Yes. It really needs to remain front and center among the perfume bottles.
No 19 seems like the perfect choice for first day of school.
No. 19 EDP is PERFECT any day!
Sunny and breezy, a bit of Coco edp smells just right.
You smell fantastic.
Wearing En Voyage Perfumes L’Hombre (not a typo – it is in fact the Spanish word for man with a French article in front, and I’m wondering what the story is behind that). I bought a bottle while at Tigerlily Perfumery in San Francisco earlier in the summer, and it’s been a bit warm for it until now. It is definitely manly, but I quite like it. The notes are listed as follows on her site (not affiliated):
TOP NOTES: Fine aged malt scotch, Spices, and Citrus
HEART NOTES: Dark Coffee and Sacred Incense
BASE NOTES: Black Oud, Coffee, Mineral Amber, Haitian Vetiver, Tree Moss, Aged Patchouli, and Musk
I like it on myself, but I’d love to smell it on a guy too.
Hope you’re all well!
That sounds really nice, but definitely suited to cooler weather.
It isn’t overwhelming me, I must say, which is probably thanks to my scent-eating skin. And air-conditioning.
Oh that’s good. AC really does make wearing some scents easier in the summer.
You smell fantastic! I’m adding this to my sample wishlist. I think my son would try this one too.
Want me to send you some? Happy to do so. You can reach me at the geeeemale – mary (the letter kay) brunner, all one word.
Thank you- will be in touch.
Sounds lovely
If I recall correctly, you don’t tend to go for scents that read as particularly masculine – right? Or maybe this could be the one. Or maybe this would work on the hubby?
It sounds very interesting!
I am definitely a fan. Smells like it would go well with a glass of MaCallan.
If you like whiskey scents, I was impressed recently by 4160 Tuesdays “A Kiss by the Fireside” – and they have very reasonable samples and they do small sizes. :^)
That does sound nice. I haven’t tried anything from this line. Did you try any others?
Oh I have been waiting to find a good coffee scent….
Same here- definitely making a note of it.
I’m trying Feminite du bois from a sample ihadanidea sent me. It’s lovely and luckily I put on a lot of it because there’s a dead animal in the walls somewhere in the building and it was quite stinky when I walked in this morning.
Yay for the scent, gigantic boo for the dead animal! Yikes.
I hope this won’t make you forever associate *that* smell with my beloved FdB (and I will of course hope that maybe it can become *your* beloved FdB too).
Haha it’s ok. Actually, because of my perfume I don’t smell the animal stink as much, which is a good thing so it’s a positive relation.
Yuck. Hope they can remove the critter soon. It’s an awfully annoying odor to be stuck with.
It really is. The PM maintenance was just here and are calling an exterminator or something now. In the meantime we’ve been given some air fresheners so it’s not as bad now.
There’s a huge dead armadillo wedged between some rocks in my Mom’s front yard. I’m so glad not to be there right now because even when I was braced for it, the smell made me blink and choke every time I walked by.
Blech! I used to live in Oklahoma and know all too well the stench of dead armadillo. Hope it gets cleared soon.
Bois des Isles, 31 Rue Cambon and Cuir de Rousse (sp???) tested for the first time…thanks to the generosity of Holly!
I <3 31 RC
Me too. Of course, just when I decided to take the plunge and buy the big bottle from Chanel, it sold out. Guess I’m going to have to wait and pay the higher price for the 75ml and hope it hasn’t been reformulated.
If I were you I would try calling Bergdorfs on September 11. If they have it, I think you qualify for $25 off, free shipping and probably no tax if there isn’t a Bergdorfs where you live.
Thanks. It’s worth a try and I will have birthday money to burn. I never know who carries the Exclusifs and hate to spend time calling around bugging people.
It is lovely…the drydown reminds me of Reglisse Noire
I love all three, but could afford to commit to one every two years LOL.
Much to my shock out of the three the Cuir is appealing to me the most right now…don’t know why as I don’t see myself a lover of leather (not that I dislike it but I don’t always gravitate towards it)…maybe it is in anticipation of cooler weather but I have been liking some of the smokier /darker scents I have been trying lately (such as By the Fireside which I sampled in Sepora recently)…..
For me, CdR was such an instantly comfortable everyday scent that it was the obvious choice for a full bottle. I like that I can wear a spritz under my shirt in the morning and then add something on my arms later if I get inspired. It’s so much more versatile than the other leathers I love.
This. Every word of it.
We were at Chanel testing everything last week. The CdR parfum was a creamy leather which you may like. I also don’t think of myself as gravitating to leather scents. It was good to have that option, since I missed the EDT.
yes, I would be amenable to sampling the pure perfume of CdR but as much as I find all three of the Chanels to be aesthetically appealing and beautiful they are not on my full bottle wish list as I would probably have to win lotto to afford them! Right now I am happy with the samples I have as my introduction to the exclusives.
And that must have been a blast sampling everything…wasn’t that where you got to try the individual notes as well? I think that is so important to acquaint oneself with the actually essential oils/single note aromas that comprise each perfume…..
Ooh, waft some of that my way, please!
🙂
Whoa all great but what are they like together?
oh dear…should have clarified that I am wearing them on different parts of my body-LOL!
Cool crisp Monday, No school (thank goodness!) but I do my closing signing tomorrow! WHEEE!
1) Am in the last of Black Jade from the sample, and will be buying after closing tomorrow. Sprayed lavishly, it’s powdery rose and spice scent, which makes me want to compare it to Jo Malone’s Velvet Rose and Oud scent, and then to Rose de Chloe.
2) Am in a ruffled navy tank sheath over white pants. My last week to wearing these particular white pants- then back into storage.
3) This week will be packing and cleaning! I am thinking of getting a diffuser for the house from LafCo.
Congratulations! Hope the signing goes well. Moving into a new home is always exciting!
It’s very exciting! It feels like Christmas Eve!
That’s so exciting! Congrats!
Thanks so much! 😀
Good luck (for lack of a better word) with all the packing and cleaning. You’re almost there!
What really helps is that I did a Marie Kondo on my apartment earlier this year, so honestly packing will take a day- day and a half, max, and will just involve one trip.
You are brave…read the book recently..haven’t done the dumping yet!
Congratulations on the house! And I love Black Jade.
Congrats Ede! Love Black Jade too and I treated myself at the last Beauty Habit sale.
Good luck my dearest!
Parfum de Nicolai New York for me. Interviewing candidates for a library shelver positions today and needed to surround myself with an air of professional gravity. 😉
Good luck with that! I find as time goes on it is harder to find people who can cope with Dewey. Yes it’s a number. Yes it’s a system. No your smart phone can’t do it…..
😀
I’m grinning right along with you!
Do they pay people to do that or is it volunteer work? My youngest niece does it at her local library for free….
Our library hires shelvers to sort, distribute & decimalize the books daily, but accepts volunteers (mostly retirees) to alphabetize for an hour or two a week…
When one hears an adult shelver remark with total sincerity, “Oh, so ‘H’ comes BEFORE ‘S’… I’ll have to remember that…” the hope of Dewey taking root seems very, very distant. ????
and New York is great for that. As it is great for any number of occasions.
Oh, it was such a comfort today! And it earned several compliments, which was nice.
You smell great. Does no one love the organization of DD anymore?
Some find it puzzling, true. But there’s hope. One of our teen shelvers loves it. She finds its fixed logic restful and secure. I do too– it brings gentle order to a chaotic world.
I worked in a library in college right around the time when the library was switching to barcodes. The really strict librarian also trusted me and one other person to prepare Math journals for binding!
Sing-it-loud today: Byredo Pulp. Also, snakeskin top with FRINGE. Take that, Monday!
Twins on the snakeskin print top! Pleats and not fringe, however.
I am also in shock at having to get up too early for the first day of school. There isn’t enough caffeine in the world for me this morning. SOTD is a quick spritz of Annick Goutal Rose Splendid on the back of my neck. It was the only thing laying on top of my dresser that was quick to grab.
I hope Rose Splendide helps!
That one is so bright and refreshing, I have to think it would help, if nothing else will. Hope it got better!
Good morning all,
SOTD: Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay. Mmmmmmmm!!!
Slammed with work, but also slammed with PTA work and Marching Band work! LOL Why do I volunteer for too much??? One day I’ll learn how to say NO….
Let’s roll!!! 🙂
You smell great and sound full of energy! 😀
Great perfume for this time of year.
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet.
Only 1 more day at work and I’m off for holidays
Bon voyage!
Enjoy your holidays!
I am wearing Kenzo Amour I Love You. I like the combination of citrus and light flowers. Very bright, pretty, simple and pleasant for Summer. It has good longevity on me. Approximately hours and still around with a moderate sillage. The bottle, as usual with Kenzos is beautiful.
You smell great. The Kenzos are addictive.
I agree with you. I am a crazy lover of most of The Kenzos. Bottles and juices are fantastic!
Always so strange to hear the kids are back in the US! Our Canuck kids go back the day after Labour Day (i.e. eight days from now). Of course, most Canadian school boards hang on until the bitter end of June for school’s end, to compensate for a September start.
Wearing Azzaro Couture.
Smelling fabulous!
In my corner of the SW US we always started school the Wednesday after Labor Day. But this year we go back to school a week earlier, and many schools start today. Hmph!
I’m in the Midwest U.S, and it just depends on the district here. My kids go back the day after Labor Day.
Here in Quebec the kids started today.
Because the day after Labor Day is when kids *ought* to go back to school.
I’m wearing the Very Interesting Timbuktu today, although it clashes with my rather feminine outfit. Really glad I have a bottle of this. It’s adaptable.
Wearing Dzongkha today, and preparing for the late afternoon-evening shift at the shelter. Yesterday I had a 10 hour shift, and was so tired I was falling asleep while watching Fear the Walking Dead. Grateful to be able to sleep late this morning.
Beautiful scent.
Annick Goutal’s Eau du Sud today. I love this, lemony, basil, minty, vetiver, oakmoss…I spray it with abandon.
Hope everyone gets well through this Monday!
That is lovely and seems more addictive than eau d’hadrien.
I think I only have one original/flanker pair, which I haven’t packed this week. That would be Alvarez Gómez “Agua de Colonia Concentrada” and its offshoot “Agua de Colonia Concentrada Barbería”, the one a warm lemon-and-geranium, the other a cool bergamot-and-cedar.
Instead, I am catching up on my Blooms Perfumery subscription wearing the samples sent out for, gulp, June! I didn’t pack the sample notes but I think the theme in June was exploring the use of ambroxan in perfumery. There was even an ‘extra’ decant of 1% pure ambroxan to show the unadorned note.
SOTD is Phaedon “Poivre Coloniale”, which is pepper (lots) and woods (generic). I tried this before earlier in the year and was disappointed in its performance. I think honestly after several months of trying other stuff, I like it even less now. I find I don’t love pepper as a note, and there are better woodsy perfumes out there, and I don’t really care for subtle lightweight scents that play an “am I gone yet?” game on my skin.
I am also amused at my own misplaced sense of duty towards these Blooms packs, because if I had an ounce of sense I’d have chucked this one in the bin as it isn’t new to me (so I’m not learning anything), and it doesn’t make me feel good. Well, I shall do better next time! :^)
SOTE: Nishane “Boszporusz” Extrait de Parfum.
Top: seagrass, cypress, galbanum and sage;
Mid: jasmine, gardenia and seaweed;
Base: oakmoss, patchouli, amber and musk.
This one is a bitter dark green with a lick of saltiness.
Pluses: Much more heft than the Phaedon; unusual.
Minuses: Some will love it, but I don’t.
However, it was unfair of me to dismiss it as unremarkable back in July. It’s just not my style.
My vacation was over yesterday and now it’s back to the daily grind. It’s definatly an Andy Tauer day and I am wearing Sotto la Luna Tuberose. Tuberose is my nemesis and I’m giving this a whirl in hopes this one will work for me.
It’s such a different interpretation, rather green and airy. I like it a lot.
You should try Bvlgari Man in Black (available at Sephora). It is tuberose without tbe tuberose smell.
Guerlain French Kiss for me today. How about a Friday project of wearing something on your full bottle wishlist?
I love that idea for a Friday project!
Seconding- great Friday project idea.
Mmmm good!
I wore a golden brown 70s-inspired dress to work (yes, I did look a bit like I was confusing European Commission with Studio 54) and Fleur de Chine seemed a good match. I’m sure nobody else sees the connection, but TF stuff often has a touch of Seventies’ glamour to me, and the golden details of the bottle matched the golden threads that run through the dress.
It sounds like a lovely combination. You are in to something. Because I first knew TF through fragrance ( after EL acquisition) and cosmetics, I hadn’t realized the breadth of his inspiration and attention to detail until I saw his fashions at the Met China: Through the Looking Glass exhibit last year.
I saw this same exhibit too! It was my first time meeting ElisaP!
I think he has a great eye and really liked what he did for Gucci and YSL, especially the latter.
I’ve never smelled FdC, but the name itself reminds me of the seventies.
It’s beautiful, but maybe not worth trying now that it’s half-discontinued.
Fun outfit and perfume matching idea. I also realise I forgot to mention good brown lip glosses I have come across of late- coco by chantecaille, absinthia and nettiannia by Aucoin. All of which would actually go well with the feeling of fdc.
Will go and check out the glosses now!
I think of Tom Ford as intensely brown, in all the best ways.
Hah! Good.
I decided that I really needed to wear something I love today, so inspired by the recent review I’m wearing Sultan Pasha’s Pure Incense and pondering that 3ml bottle again. As much as I love my other perfumes, every time I sniff this I am totally blissed out by it.
I am afraid to look to see what 3 ml costs, but it must be more than I would have imagined or you would not still be pondering 😉
In the very beautiful Seville a l`Aube. Turned by hot coffee into iced coffee and now heading to the kitchen to make lunch. Gotta love working from home!
Love Seville and hooray to WFH!
I’m on an interview panel today, and will be spending the entire day in a small, windowless room, so I’m wearing Vert des Bois (in a light, polite application) to help me cope. I’m pretty smitten with this one; Corsica Furiosa fans should give it a sniff. Green for miles with a gentle whiff of anise, like an herbal liquour spilled on a ferny forest floor. My husband’s take: “A wood shop, with peppermint candles burning in it.” I don’t get mint out of this one, but there is something cool and refreshing in it — the sensation of mint, minus the mintiness. 🙂
Of the three I smelled in blotters, that was the one I liked best. Maybe greens+anise registers as minty?
Yesterday’s trip to the mall scored me a sample of JM Basil and Neroli so I’m trying it out today. It’s as light and sparkly as you would imagine. Predicting it won’t last long but it’s nice while it’s here.
I have yer to try this and the tea series!
Wearing MFK’s Petit Matin this morning…
It is a nice citrus cologne…pretty light and fleeting though… 🙁
I also got a sample of Baccarat Rouge which I may put on tonight. 😉
Spritzed Grand Soir the last time I passed the MFK counter–big mistake. It’s a winter scent not suited to 80 deg & humid. May try again in December.
Really want to try that one.
I got a sample of Grand Soir too …will try it later this week…heat be damned. 😉 But I agree, so many good scents just don’t lend themselves to hot summer sampling.
I’m wearing one of my absolute favorites today – Gris Clair. And it earned me the first perfume compliment from a student this year – one of my 10th grade biology students told me I smelled like how heaven smells in his imagination.
Hope everyone has a great first day of school, or just a great Monday.
That’s a great compliment!
Wow, that’s quite a compliment! GC is on my to-sample list.
That is such a lovely and sweet compliment.
Wow! There is HOPE yet for the young uns.
Wow! Give that kid an A.
Doing a huge load of work laundry today. Sheets and towels, towels and sheets…
SOTD: OJ woman two sprays per ankle. The weather is a little less oppressive today and I wanted to wear something fresh n tangy!
I can’t believe it’s the first day of school for the youngsters. The summer went by so fast! But I will be happy to get a break from all that brutally hot weather.
Just to clarify, I don’t have any “youngsters” and if I did call my own kids that, it would be kind of odd, like calling them whipper snappers or young people. Although I do refer to my step daughter as a whipper snapper. And sometimes a grommet. I was referring to the other NSTers who have kids.
LOL. I definitely enjoy the cooler weather but I hate that it is getting darker and darker when I leave tbe house.
I totally relate to that. I miss the light much more than the heat.
With thanks to (and sadness for) the Guerlain clearance at STC, yesterday and today are for Vol de Nuit EdT, a grand Perfume with a capital P.
Wow! there’s so much going on there, it changed hour by hour. And the drydown this morning was like coming home. I can imagine someone being loyal to VdN for a lifetime.
I got the EDT during the clearance, too. I put on a sort-of half-spritz a while before bed the other night, and I was surprised by the time it had moved into the drydown because it was unexpectedly musky–quite Jicky-like. I can’t wait to give it a full test run!
Oh hurray because Jicky is on my to-try list, too. I love the Guerlain drydown so very very much.
CdG Kyoto this morning, it works so well in not-hot-but-not-cold weather. I am tempted to move my summer clothes from my closet into the guest bedroom closet and put the fall/winter clothes into my closet. Just doing my part to hurry cold weather along. I am not a summer person.
Also, can anyone recommend a shoe brand making flats with decent arch support? My feet start to ache after a few hours in my current pair.
Can’t speak to arch support specifically–but if you’re going to the gym, doing errands, etc, Asics Gel running shoes have a memory foam-type layer and are super comfortable & reduce fatigue.
Check out the tri comfort orthotic shoe inserts by Dr. School. There are other support products that may help. CVS makes a ballet flat insert that helps a little. That way you can retrofit what you own.
Scholl- beloved autocorrect.
I am going to second Wendysue in recommending a good pair of orthotic inserts which you can transfer from shoe to shoe. Amazon sells the half inserts of Powerstep and I love them!
Maybe Beautifeel? I can’t personally wear them because there’s too much padding in the toe area, but they look comfy and they make nice styles. I haven’t really been able to use arch supports in most flat flats because the sides of the shoe are too shallow. I can recommend Dansko shoes. I can stand for very long periods in those, but not sure if they make flats. Or El Naturalista brand are comfy and stylish, but pretty casual.
I’m in Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur. …And that’s all I can even think of to mention. It is definitely Monday.
It is Monday, but not for very much longer!
And you smell great.
Bottega Veneta for a lovely day.
You smell as lovely as the day. 🙂
Very good morning, all. Hey, thanks to everyone who commented on my remarks yesterday. Your conversation was so much more interesting than my random gripe that I wish very much I had got back to it at a reasonable hour. Unfortunately, by the time I read what you had all written, it was about 10.30 p.m. here, and I hope all sendible souls in TOH were deeply and peacefully asleep.
I’m still on my mission to usher in spring, so today I’m wearing a black silk shirt I’m especially fond of (I’ll concede a light jacket as well) and 19. We still have an iffy and unsettled relationship, 19 and I, but when she behaves well, she wreathes green perfection around me and makes me smile every time I catch my own perfume. Of course, when she behaves badly, I want to throw up, but let’s hope her brattiness is behind her. Oh, and Lady Donatella do your worst: I’m about to buy 75 ml bottles of No.22 AND Misia. I know, I know, but here’s the thing: I’m old-ish now, so life is shorter and pleasure means more.
Go Waterdragon! And if 19 keeps being fickle, maybe you can threaten her by suggesting you will swap her for Heure Exquise. That should get her attention.
Go for it, Waterdragon. Also, perfume doesn’t take up a lot of space and is easy to pack relative to other objects.
Yes to no 22! That is a fantastic purchase!
So if you love aromatic wood fragrances run to Ulta and try SJP Stash. It is an olibanum bomb! Not probably appropriate for the heat but it will be fabulous going into the colder months. I predict most consumers will not enjoy it. Not sweet, not light, not clean. Me, and probably you, will be thrilled. I bought a little bottle, Lady Donatella forgive me…..
Great to read!
Thanks for your take on it. It seems like those around the perfume social media sites are saying positive things as well.
I wish we had an Ulta around here ????

This is a heavy vacation week so I am throwing caution to the wind, to some extent.
My 2 spritzes mostly pooped out around the 6 hour mark but it will make its presence known once I am back out in the heat.
I am still looking for my Mugler Les Exceptions sampler set. Persokaise reviewed a good chunk of the range within the last month or so. I can’t wait to try Supraflora as he mentioned No 19 fans should nake sure to try it.
You smell great!
Thank you WendySue!
Great choice! I usually use 4-5 spritzes though… I am shameless.
Or brave :-)…certainly braver than moi
I am on my 2nd Exceptions sampler set…all five are well done. I need to pursue the two new ones now.
Several NSTers mentioned that the Cuir was disappointing. I don’t have a sample and I am unlikely to pursue it. YMMV. Which are your top 2?
So glad you asked 😉 …a good excuse to spray more perfume now that I’m home from work….in the name of science! (kind of)
They are all very good but like stack ranking employees at work ;)…things can always be ordered.
I will start at the bottom…I think Over the Musk is the least interesting of the five.
Next comes Fougere Furieuse…
I quite like Chyprissime…it comes in third.
It is a toss up for 1st and 2nd w/ Oriental Express and Supra Floral. OE gets lots of love and I think it is very well done but a bit too powdery sweet for my preference. SF is a green eyed shapeshifter of sorts…it changes over time and keeps me guessing…
Y’all know I meant PersoLaise…this I can squarely blame on fat fingers!

Portrait of a Lady today (and the last 3 days, actually). It’s gone all incense-y on me today – I love it!
Love.
Finished up inventory, and thank goodness, have tomorrow off. I am wearing Alien Liquor. I find it different from the Original , in that it is softer and more creamy. Much more refined. I haven’t had a bottle of the original Alien for years. I really like the flankers better. My favorite is probably The Fragrance of Leather.
I like the Alien Essence Absolue.
Oh yes! Another great one.
A slightly cool day after a hot weekend, so trying out a new bottle of TF Noir de Noir.
Rose Ikebana. Back to work tomorrow after a few weeks and trying to get into the right mindset.
Ackphht! Monday! – ran out of the house without perfume, so used my Emergency Backup Perfume rollerball of Dioressimo.
LL Poivre decant, undoubtedly influenced by the blackpepper review here, but I smell great. Good to be back home, showered and covered in the various good-smelling balms etc. Well-rested enough to start processing the project.
I’ve been a long-time lurker, but I’ve decided to fly my perfume freak flag. Today I wear Alahine, even though it was a bit warm for it (84F) – but my workplace is over-air conditioned. I’m still working out how I feel about it; it’s so loud to begin with but such a beautiful dry-down.
