Happy National Paul Bunyan Day! And a quick PSA: You have another day left to enter the Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight contest. And do tell us what fragrance you are wearing.
I'm wearing a tiny dab of 4160 Tuesdays Dirty Honey.
Reminder: on 7/1, wear a fragrance by Olivia Giacobetti, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Kakkoii Micro Bluetooth Pantone Speaker is around $55.
I couldn’t decide on a fragrance, so I went into my sample box and grabbed what turned out to be My Burberry. Robin, how do you like Dirty Honey?
Truth be told I am probably wearing too little of it to tell, because I want to be able to wash it off before I go outside — it’s a bit buggy where I am this week. But so far, like it enough to want to try it again, although maybe it’s more of a fall fragrance? Powdery, bit of spicy floral, not overly sweet, certainly not as “dirty” as SL Miel de Bois, and maybe not quite as much honey, either?
I’m in the long-gone Yves Rocher Aztek, part of their decades-long quest to prove that “cheap” and “inexpensive” are not synonymous. Spicy rose jam, sandalwood, and so much tarragon. Utterly wonderful.
Wow! That sounds right up my ally..
That sounds gorgeous; too bad it’s been discontinued 🙁
Gosh, that sounds great! I don’t even remember the name, must have been before my (perfumista) time?
1993. Not only is it great, it’s held up perfectly; you’d think it had been bottled yesterday.
Oh, nice.
Completely failing OG week and this is silly as I certainly have some of hers I really like – I blame it on being v distracted this morning. Instead Desert Rose by Chandrika Thomas, a small independent UK perfumer and this is rather beautiful – rose and iris in a restrained powdery mix, it has a touch of Iris Poudre in feel but less powder and more controlled.
I’m failing too 🙂
That sounds really beautiful.
Rose and Iris – nice. Don’t see that combo often
Eau Sauvage today. I have quite a few L’AP fragrances for the rest of the week honoring OG.
Yum.
Twins! I actually had my Dirty Honey sample ready to roll and in easy reach!
How is that one? I like a good dirty honey smell.
Fun, hey twin! And good, hope you will give a a better description than I did above.
I just read your description. I’m satisfied???? I’m aways on the lookout for a honey dominant perfume.
Me too! I love honey and beeswax smells. I need them inexpensive though, so the SL Robin mentions above wouldn’t work for me. I do like Demeter Beeswax and Philosophy Pure Honey, which are the two honey fragrances that I own.
The SL is also fairly hard to wear, and is probably their least selling perfume, and I can’t remember but think it might have been discontinued? MAC Naked Honey was darned good and much easier to wear, but that was a limited edition. It’s surprising how hard it is to find a really good honey fragrance.
I’ll have to check those out. Don’t think I’ve seen that Philosophy before. I also did see the SL at Aedes fairly recently. Word around town is that it was tamed. I’ll have to smell it next time I’m there if they still have it.
Thanks Elisa, maybe I remembered wrong and it was just reformulated.
L’Occitane used to do ( and it may still be around) a very ‘true’ honey scent that had the green aspect of, say, a willow or clover honey rather than the depth of manuka honey. It had good lasting power and quite strong sillage. It didn’t develop much over time, more of a single note. It came in a cute package and bottle that reminded me of The Little Prince. It wasn’t in their more expensive perfume line but may have been too early for that…I should have looked it up before commenting. I took it with me on an Antarctic trip and it filled my tent with its scent so I have extremely fond memories of it…it made the smell of damp socks and polyproplene long johns tolerable. Check it out…it is good.

This is it.
Like Robin, I did just a dab and I’m getting the same impressions. I like it quite a bit – it’s not overly sweet or too rich. The only other honey scent I’ve tried is Smell Bent’s Prairie Nymph which is a lot sweeter and more floral, probably would conservatively be thought of as a feminine fragrance. I think Dirty Honey could definitely be considered more unisex.
Thanks for your impressions!
Me as well. SL Honey did not feel that bad on me, but I am not sure I can finish the whole bottle. Mona di Orio’s L’Eau is a great easy cheerful honey
I’m wearing Frederic Malle En Passant. All hail Olivia Giacobetti!!
So glad someone else is holding up the banner since I totally failed.
Came home yesterday to some lovely swap packages and a sort of surprise belated birthday gift from my sister which is a bottle of Andrea Maack Coven which I looove and would have eventually bought for myself.
SOTD is NV Bombay Bling(thanks Gi!). Cheerful and fun for this grey, drizzly day.
Fun! Nothing like getting ‘fume packages in the mail after a long work day 😉
I was in Bombay Bling on Sunday, it is cheerful and fun.
It was a nice end to my day????
Happy Belated and enjoy your samples
Thanks! Enjoy the show.
You smell great!
Thanks!
Happy belated Birthday.
Thanks! It’s actually very belated. I think my sister was feeling a little guilty for missing my b-day this year. I told her it was ok but she insisted on wanting to get me something. Who am I to say no?????
Wearing what is rapidly becoming my Summer 2016 scent– Gardenia Batik by Soivohle. It’s such a beautiful floral and so easy- going
I don’t know this brand, but their prices are amazing! Think I’ll try a sample set.
Oh my favorite by her is Leather Krem – the scent that started my obsession with leather! Somebody also said Meershaum was a great leather scent, I have been intending to try. Then there are a couple of lilac scents (Lilacs and Heliothrope and Lilacs and ..Narcissus? Daffodil? can’t recall at the moment) which are gorgeous (but have been discontinued)
Leather krem is the best!
Purple Love Smoke and Green Oakmoss are a couple of my favorites from Soivohle. I also love Centennial, which is a gorgeous rose chypre, but that is sadly discontinued.
Those are great names! I’ve never heard of this house, and here’s all this love for it!
Mmmm. Green Oakmoss, Centennial (one of my husband’s favorites), and Alpha Musc are on my list of all-time best buys. Violets and Rainwater and Honeysuckle Bird are wonderful too, and I have a couple more that I need to dig out because I can’t remember when I wore them last and they’re all very good.
This is my favorite house– I own Centennial, Lilas et Narcissus, A Rose for Beacon Free, Rosa Sur Reuse, Honeysuckle Bird, Bottleneck Blues, Amun Re: The Tears of Ra, and Carpathian Oud in addition to Gardenia Batik
I have no OG perfumes so I am going to keep with the house divided theme
Celebrating our anniversary today and tonight I will wear my sample Shangri La
tea French Breakfast
Happy anniversary! Are you doing anything special to mark the occasion?
We are going to a Broadway show ❤️????
Which one??
Happy Anniversary! Enjoy!
Happy Anniversary and Enjoy the show!
Happy Anniversary!
You smell divine, I love that Shangri La.
Oh, wonderful! Happy Anniversary to you!
Happy Anniversary! You’ll be smelling great.
Happy Anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
You smell great. Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary! I hope you have a wonderful celebration. Have fun at the show.
Happy Anniversary!
Having a mommy brain moment.
Forgot to put what fragrances for my house divided today, experimenting with thorn in bloom wearing savage garden and bird of paradise.
Oh tell us what you think. They are my two favorites of the line, but I’m not fully settled into either.
The opening of Bird of Paradise reminds me a lot of Hindu Honeysuckle by Providence CO. The Bird of Paradise has a nicer dry down on me. That was in my favorite out of the two.
I have the sample set, is there one you recommend I try next?
The Rose is really interesting, although there is something in it I don’t quite like. I want try again but used all my sample! Have to replenish. ☺️
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
A house united! Congratulations!
Happy anniversary and enjoy the show!
Happy Anniversary!
I dug through the samples lingering in my drawer at work and am wearing some Fou d”Absinthe. Very nice.
I am drinking some Mariage Freres’ Rouge Metis which is a rooibos melange. Very nice, also.
I like that one! And used to have that MF, but don’t have any of their rooibos at the moment.
That sounds nice. Love tea but cannot do caffeine so rooibos is a good option for me. Any recommendation for where to buy Mariage Freres on-line (usa)?
Dean and Deluca, luckyscent and MHfoods website
Elie Saab Le Parfum this morning.
I was just reading Angela’s review. It sounds lovely. Are you sampling, or is it a favorite?
It is a second-tier favorite 🙂
Very pretty honeyed white floral, it reminds me a bit of Eau Premiere but more honeyed and a little less sparkle.
You smell great!
CB I Hate Perfume At the Beach 1966. It’s layered with a bit of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, but I got a little spray-happy, so oil’s been kind of drowned out.
Even though I didn’t grow up with highly scented suncreens and don’t really relate to the Coppertone reference, this still somehow captures the beach better than any of the other sunscreen scents I’ve tried.
Oh yum, love that one.
You smell great. CB I Hate Perfume does have scents that do capture those settings in such a pristine way. We are lucky to have some available to try at Ari’s shop. I like how Black March captures the damp gardening soil.
Do you know anyone who has been to the shop?
The CB I Hate Perfumes Shop in Brooklyn…
I don’t, but I’m heading up to New York in a few weeks, so maybe I can be that person!
Ooh! Let me know if you want company. I’m actually fairly close to it in Bklyn but have yet to visit it.
Elisa P – I would love company! That’s just the incentive I need to send my fiance out on his own for a few hours while I go sniffing
Awesome! Email me and we can try snd make a date pretsky35 over at hawt male. Maybe other locals will want to join as well
Love Nuxe oil
Me too. Just slathered some on yesterday. I feel very French when I do so.
You smell great. I bought the CB for my husband, and I think it smells fabulous on him. I need to remind him to wear it more.
I’m working through a wonderful sample pack from Hamamelis (my first European swapping partner!). Today’s scent was Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendré, which was a shocking disappointment, based on the listed notes. It smells like stale, wet cardboard on me. I don’t know if it just doesn’t work with me or if the sample has gone off.
Recently at the airport, I decided to try out Sauvage to see why everyone had been hating on it. It smelled like the kind of generic Man Cologne you can get at the supermarket. Thinking Eau Sauvage was a flanker or a different concentration, I tried that one out, too, and found it absolutely lovely and full of vetiver and personality. I felt ashamed for liking a flanker of a widely detested fragrance. Luckily, a couple days later, I saw someone blog about how Eau Sauvage and Sauvage have nothing to do with each other, so I felt better about my nose. Inasmuch as herd mentality (sniffality) is something to be pleased with.
Eau Sauvage used to be even better, but it’s still fantastic.
There definitely is that wet cardboard element to Iris Cendre, but to me it smells great 🙂 Did you get no iris or smoke at all?
And I think everyone should own a bottle of Eau Sauvage. Such an icon.
I certainly get the iris. I don’t quite get smoke, but I do get incense. What IS that wet cardboard note?
Funny, unlike you and Annikky I don’t get cardboard in this, although it is very dry, so maybe that’s what smells like cardboard to you guys? To me it’s iris and smoke and I love it, but I can see it not being for everybody. I even love her Bois d’Ascese, which to many is a real hairshirt of a perfume. So stark.
I need to go home and smell it again, before I make any further grand pronouncements 🙂
Yup, well done your nose. Sauvage is the flanker. Sad.
My first OG of the week; Dzing! Such a lovely scent. Tea is Sikkim Temi second flush.
You smell great!
Nice!
Excellent! That’s what I’ll be doing Friday…
I like Dzing! so much that I wore it again today. 🙂
Received a new decant of Osmanthus Interdite yesterday and so that’s my SOTD. I’ve missed this one, and so wish they sold smaller sized bottles as I’d snatch one up.
Joining you in wishing they’d do much smaller bottles!!
I’m wearing Penhaligon’s Ostara today, and I’m basking in its beauty.
In addition to its beauty I find it to be very uplifting.
I’ve got to pull this one out more often.
I bought on ebay a pretty large nondescript bottle which the seller swore was Memo Irish leather that she put into a generic bottle. It was discounted, like, 5 times, compared to real Memo, and I got a 35% more discount because I made an offer which the seller quickly and unexpectedly accepted. So now I am wearing the liquid from the ebay bottle on my right arm and manufacturer’s sample of Irish leather on my left arm…guess what? i can detect no difference whatsoever (it’s been three hours)
Love those great Ebay “scores”.
No fragrance today, as I was testing the Aerin body lotions. Of the ones I tried, Gardenia Rattan was my favourite. I admit I like the packaging – don’t think I would be interested in them otherwise.
Atelier Bergamote Soleil. It’s refreshing, but after a few hours, there’s the citrus rind note that I would rather drink than wear. On the other hand, if I smelled it on someone else, I would get closer and ask what they were wearing .
I’m with you on Bergamote Soleil. I like scents that are “delicious” but I don’t want to wear fragrances that make me think I smell like food or drink. It’s a fine line.
That’s a great description!
I’m in the gorgeous 24, Faubourg today. Ahhhh.
Ahhhh!
Ahhh-ahh!!!
Indeed! 😀
Oh so pretty!
Dame’s Soliflore Gardenia in both oil and EDP form. My gardenias have joined the plumeria in blooming so the back yard smells divine. Sadly, I have yard work to do out front first so will settle for perfume to begin with. I expect that it will have worn off in the heat by the time I get out back and can smell the real thing (if I can smell it over the mosquito spray, because the construction site across the back fence is breeding zillions of the little suckers).
So the Gardenia is good for you? I think I have read some mention of unpleasant bits in this. But I want several of those!
I’ve heard it is too “bleu cheesey” for some, but fortunately I seem unable to smell that aspect. To me it smells nearly identical to the real thing, which is what I want from a soliflore.
Quel Amour! still in need of some happy and easy cheering up, so Hiris and Carottes have to wait. Husband is getting better. Streptococcus infection via the skin is no joke, antibiotics need to be used with care, but are a lifesaver in this case.
Glad to hear he’s improving!
I hope your husband recovers soon! You smell very lovely too! Cheers!!
Oh my goodness, how scary! I’m so glad he’s getting better and hope he’s back to normal soon! Sending happy, cheery thoughts your way.
Glad to hear he is doing ok. Infections these days are not to be taken lightly with more strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Hope your perfumes and his progress continue to lift your spirits.
Oh my God. Wishing him (and you) all the best. You smell happy and husband-supporting :)!
I’m glad they have the right antibiotic(s) and wish you both a swift recovery.
Sending happiness and cheer to both of you along with Get Well Soon good wishes.
Yikes! I’m relieved to hear that he’s getting the care and medication that he needs, though. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Yes, thank god for antibiotics! Glad to hear he’s on the mend.
Thank you all so much for your kind wishes. It is always a reality bringer when you know without antibiotics chances of survival are minimal. Fortunately my husband is as strong as an ox, and he has had this kind of infection before, so we knew what to expect. Still, it struck quite hard, and very suddenly, and it will take time before he is really well again. Fortunately we have a holiday very soon!
Best wishes. Hope he recovers well enough to enjoy the holiday, even if to just relax and rest.
You smell great! And sending wishes for your husband’s speedy recovery!
Just now seeing this and SO glad he’s on his way to recovery! That is terrifying.
Beterschap, and it’s good to know that resistance to antibiotics is low in our country! Still, it sounds like a serious illness, so he will need time to heal. Good luck to both of you with being patient.
2 Profumum Roma scents.
Acqua di Sale on left arm, Vanitas on right arm.
I smell like eating cotton candy on a hot sunny August beach afternoon.
Where are my Lana Del Rey CDs ?
😉
????
Testing Portrait of a Lady today. I didn’t get any of the fruity opening, it went straight to spicy rose, but then I only put on one spray. It seemed pretty forceful with just the one spray, especially since I’m in the office today. I think I like it though; perfect for the arctic setting that is my air-conditioned office. Maybe not suited for the humid oven that is outside right now; I’ll know more when I got out for lunch.
I don’t get fruit on this one either. Spice and rose and patchouli and little whispers of wood. In my experience if I spray too much, after a few hours I am a walking patchouli bomb. I love it, but spray with care if I’m going to be with people.
Thanks for the heads up! That’s the impression I’m getting, too; a little goes a long way.
Hot weather makes me crave a handful of perfumes and the summer makes me lazy, so right now I am on a Corsica Furiosa bender.
You smell great!
I’m wearing Beige, a gift from my late mother-in-law. It makes me smile and think of her.
You smell wonderful.
Oh, you touched my heart. Beige is so tender and full of joy.
Here I am, looking at my collection of nothing to wear. I have a huge collection and it should be that I have tons of options to chose from. Spent two days wearing Shalimar and it isn’t a Shalimar type of day. Kind of wore out no 19 and it’s not calling to me. Maybe, just maybe no 22 or L’Heure de Nuit will do it.
It does seem like the more choices I have, the harder it is to choose . . .
That’s why I appreciate the SOTD poll as it reminds me of what I have that I’ve not worn!
I was in the same kind of rut recently and bought a bunch of samples and small bottles to spark some olfactory zest. It did the trick and rekindled my interest in what I already have around but couldn’t see, as it were.
I don’t have a single OG fragrance! Although I remember testing Jour en Fete once and wishing I had a bottle, so that may count. SOTD is soft and fuzzy Esprit d’Oscar.
Esprit d’Oscar is on my radar to test next time I’m at a perfume counter. I’ve tried it before and can’t remember what I thought, but soft and fuzzy sounds great.
I have it in mind that I want to compare Esprit d’Oscar, the current Oscar, and L’heure Bleue to my old bottle of Oscar. Sounds like a project for the next time I go to the shopping mall.
If you are a fan of the original, Esprit is worth trying, for sure. Have you compared the original Oscar to the new? I smelled the new one a few years ago (surprised to see it was still made) and it was nothing like the original that I remembered but hadn’t smelled since the 80s. I’ve since worn both the original EDT and parfum and they immediately brought memories of that era and the women I knew who wore Oscar flooding back. I bought them out of curiosity but I wear the vintage frags all the time, as well as Esprit.
Thanks for that, I’m glad Esprit d’Oscar is worth trying. I will seek it out soon.
I have tried the current Oscar a few times and found it was not much like the old Oscar. I haven’t done a side by side test yet.
I don’t often wear my old Oscar, but just sniffing the sprayer brings back memories for me. It makes me happy.
Thanks to the very, very generous Hajusuuri I am trying out samples from the Regime des Fleurs line. I have Nitesurf on the left, and Water/Wood on the right.
So far Nitesurf’s opening is fun and W/W is reminding me of something else I’ve smelled recently, just can’t put my finger on it. Excited to see how they both wear throughout the day.
I have a stash of OG samples from her IUNX line somewhere, thinking L’Eau Frappe for Friday!
Yay! You got it already! Enjoy!
I am wearing Oscar parfum layered over Arancia di Capri body lotion. I love this combo a lot.
HI All- happy Tuesday and happy end of fiscal year (blows noisemaker)
1) Back at work. weirdly, I am relieved to be back, and my colleagues are very understanding. So I am able to work in relative quiet at my desk and then able to go into the lab without interruption.
2) SOTD: Jasmine/rose body oil (own recipe, a riff off of Rodin’s body oil) and Joy EDP.
You should market your oil for those of us who cannot afford the Rodin 🙂
Tee hee! At the risk of sounding arrogant, I think mine is a bit better! Since i have access to chromatography equipment I was able to ‘cheat’ a little and analyze the components a bit.
Oh, you can do that? I have the dregs of an aromatherapy oil that I love and would like to recreate…
You can do that- but you will need to know how to read the reports and understand which components respond to which reading. It won’t be exact, but it will be pretty darn close.
A good place to access this is at a local food products lab.
What is your recipe?
Wow, now I just realized what might happen if I had access to a chromatograph (for archaeological purposes, in my case), and it’s a good thing I don’t! ????
What carrier oil did use for your Rodin-like creation?
Chromatography and chemical analysis is used all the time in archaeology! For example, people have been able to brew Medieval beer and recreate flavored Roman wines using chromatography!
For my Rodin like creation, I used avocado and rose hip oil, which sinks right into the skin and has positive effects for the function of the skin. You could also use sweet almond oil, which has a subtle scent of it’s own. I use tocopherol (Vitamin E) as a fixative and preservative.
For every 4-6 ounces of oil, I use about 5 drops of rose and neroli oil, 15-20 drops jasmine (it’s the real stuff that is already diluted) and another 5-10 vanilla.
I am wearing Love Shot today.
I would describe it as an animalic fruitchouli…maybe a bit too much animal for me. 😉
I bought the set w/ Fleur Narcotique, Sweet Morphine and this and, so far, have liked Sweet Morphine best.
Thanks for sharing your impressions of that set, She-ra. I love Sweet Morphine and have some dinky untested samples of some of Ex Nihilo’s other stuff to see if I might want one of their sets, too.
I have a tiny sample of Fleur Narcotique that was thrown in with a Lucky Scent order, and it’s quite addicting (even if not quite my usual thing).
SOTD: Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose. Fresh and clean…Makes me sneeze for the 1st 30 minutes! LOL!
Funny. Worth sneezing to wear. You smell great!
I tried this the other day and liked it a lot. How is the staying power on you?
Staying power is lousy! Only lasts a couple of hours. I got mine from Scentbird, so it’s easy to toss in my purse for a refresh…
I’ve seen it on Fragrance Net for less than $50 (3.3oz) so I guess it’s cheap enough to refresh, if I ever purchase a full bottle. But most days it wears off and that’s the end of it! 🙂
You smell GREAT. That is a truly perfect summery fragrance to wear, even with sneezing!
Quite a few of us in Hermes today. I’m in Jour, which is so easy to wear in the summer heat.
We moved two weeks ago and I still have only unpacked a few perfume essentials (mainly Hermes, in case you’ve been following along). I am starting to itch for some variety now. Maybe after this weekend I will have time to unpack all of my beauties.
I have some serious unpackaging to do when I get home from vacation too, and, planning to pack up my perfumes for a bit so I can re-do that cabinet. Not looking forward to it!
Love Jour d’Hermes – you smell wonderful.
I’m wearing Bombay Bling today.
You smell wonderful!
Hey twin!
Hello from the central California coast! Wearing Daim Blond today.
It’s my last day on my own on this trip, and I wouldn’t mind another day or two, but I have people to visit in LA tomorrow and Thursday so I have to move on.
Driving through Big Sur was one of the most enjoyable things I’ve ever done, and some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen in my life. Not recommended for people afraid of heights, but if you like them as I do, you can happily spend hours pulling over to the side of the road every half mile to take in yet another spectacular view. My new favorite place.
And the smell! I’m not sure what the scent consists of exactly, but it was serene and gorgeous and now I want my home to smell like it. Doesn’t someone make a Big Sur candle?
Anyway – hope you’re all well! I’m hoping to stop into Scent Bar in LA tomorrow if all goes well, and am excited to go sniffing.
Also just realized I hadn’t mentioned – I spent three full hours at Tigerlily in San Francisco last week, and had an amazing time. Antonia and her staff made me feel so at home that I barely wanted to leave. Perfume people really are the best.
Have a lovely day everyone!
Doesn’t that scent just overpower you? After many years, I can still remember it, love it, want it. So glad you’re having the fabulous time you anticipated. Nepenthe was the restaurant I remember at Big Sur, but it can’t still be there. No doubt something equally wonderful has taken its place.
Nepenthe is not only still there, but that’s where I got lunch the other day! Beautiful, and still has a picture on the wall of Henry Miller sitting at the bar with Andy Warhol and others.
Oh! That makes me so happy. It’s somehow reassuring that treasured spots remain in actuality as well as memory.
🙂 🙂 🙂
A woman I sat next to at the bar said she’d been coming there for years. Hope you get a chance to visit again soon!
I’ve lived in L.A. for the last 6 years and have never driven the Big Sur coast. I’d like to hear about this Big Sur candle, too.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
You need to go! I can’t recommend it enough. Truly spectacular.
So glad the trip was as great as you hoped!
Thanks Robin! So am I.
Big Sur and environs is wonderful. It’s worth renting a convertible and driving down!
If I wasn’t so pale, I totally would have done a convertible! Maybe I just need super-strength SPF…
I think Juniper Ridge has a Big Sur scent…
That’s the one! I’ll have to smell and see if it’s accurate. I feel like Lizzie B would know…
I can’t think of any candles, and I haven’t tried the scent, but I’m curious about SSS Pacific Forest. I think she does a great job of capturing the smells of her NoCal surroundings.
So glad you’re enjoying yourself. I could do that trip over and over and not get tired of it.
Have fun at Scentbar!
Cazaubon remembered – it’s Juniper Ridge that makes the candle! I think those are sold at ABC Carpet and Home, so we should be able to check them out in NY.
I have a sample of JR Big Sur perfume I haven’t tried yet.
I think Twisted Lily carries this line!
Glad you’re enjoying your trip, the Big Sur is truly awesome, yes! We did the coastal highway in a Mustang convertible. Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom always reminds me that trip and a glorious sense of freedom.
Free is how I felt too. Isn’t it amazing? I’ll have to smell that Lemon Blossom.
I didn’t smell the Lemon Blossom until long after our trip, but its happy, breezy, carefree, uncomplicated nature – and its fresh lemon mixed with soft florals touched by salty sea notes – immediately brought back sensory memories of that fun trip and California sunshine.
Next trip you can do SF and head north instead of south! Coastline is just as glorious and there are even more places to stay and eat…
I bet Juniper Ridge has something that evokes Big Sur. I can say that their Sierra Granite room spray is just that. Sierras in a bottle.
Yes! I knew you’d know. Now to try that candle.
And yes, I’m thinking of doing the SF to Seattle or Vancouver trip in the next couple years. My family and I did that when I was about 14 and I loved it.
Sounds like fun all around. I can’t wait to hear all about it and see pics!
Ahh, I love that you’re traveling through my homeland! Big Sur *does* smell wonderful, and probably one of the main things you’re smelling this time of year is the warm sun on the coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis). There are a few Central Coast scents that can just crack my heart wide open, and that’s one of them, along with sycamore leaves, alder buds, and hummingbird sage. There’s your Central Coast perfume, right there. 😉
I walked out the door without perfume this morning, and I feel so lonely. I remember when I quit smoking years ago, I sobbed “I feel as if I’ve lost my best friend.” Same idea, but not quite as severe.
I hate forgetting to put perfume on and not have something in my purse. I usually carry Iris Silver Mist in my purse or whatever else I grab from my decant bag. Iris Silver Mist is one of my go to’s but I make sure I have something though.
Nothing even in my purse or desk! Arrgh. What kind of perfumista am I?!
Ack. You’re making me question my own purse and desk, both bereft of fragrance. Seven kinds of loose tea (desk, not purse), but no perfume. Must fix that pronto!
I have more perfume than work-related things in my desk drawers at my office. So embarrassing.
I’m such an OG fan and am pleased to have enough of her scents to field a team. Today I’m in Philosykos.
Yay.
Getting a head start on OG with Lubon’s Idole (edt). At first I thought it might not be a great choice in the humidity but I’m surprised at how well it’s doing. It dies down to nothing more than a whisper, so I supposed that helps. Beautiful and I’m glad I found a bottle on auction – at a VERY reasonable price.
and that’s Lubin’s. 🙂 *fat fingers*
Congrats on your Lubin!
Wikipedia says that Giacobetti is the “creative director at Parfum Lubin”. Can somebody more knowledgeable help me picture what exactly that may mean? (say in respect to the latest fragrances from that house) Robin, can you help?
I’d imagine that she’s tasked with creating the overall vision for the house’s fragrance portfolio – keeping in mind the brand’s history and its image – as well as being the guiding hand (or nose) for the development of new scents. Or it could be just a fancy name for in-house perfumer, much like Mathilde Laurent at Cartier or Jean-Claude Elena at Hermes….but these are just guesses.
Yeah, I keep sampling Lubin scents thinking Giacobetti must be involved, but for those she is not listed as the perfumer, I am not getting it. I even tried Upper Ten (despite disliking the name) just in case, but the whole thing and how she could be possibly engaged leaves me puzzled …
Normally, the creative director essentially provides creative direction to the perfumer. I’m not saying wikipedia is wrong, but I wouldn’t assume it was right, either — it could easily have been true at one time and then never updated. I say that because it seems highly unlikely to me that it’s true and Lubin does not advertise it.
Posted my comment before seeing yours, Robin … This makes sense, thanks! So, I won’t insist anymore with Lubin.
Wearing Angelique Noire today from my new bottle. I just got it in the mail yesterday. What can I say, I couldn’t help myself.
You smell fabulous! I bought another bottle recently as my first one was nearly empty. Great stuff.
I have a bottle but find the atomizer doesn’t work very well and leaks just fyi.
I put on some OG-designed Andrée Putman L’Original this morning. I was running errands – voting, groceries – on my bike and there was a bit of a rainstorm on my way home, but L’Original seems to be hanging around, though! Good for it.
You smell great!
Wish the new fragrances in the AP line were as interesting … I wonder how is it that some houses manage to get more (or less) from their perfumers.
This is the only one I’ve tried – I’ve never heard anything encouraging about the others.
But you’re right that it’s a puzzle as to how somebody can go from house to house and produce very different results. I suppose being a perfumer must be a strange job!
Definitely. It seems you cannot get a good fragrance without a good perfumer, but a good perfumer is not always enough. And this is particularly disappointing when somebody like Giacobetti is not producing that much anyhow.
Well, if she produced as much as I want her too, I’d never even start to crack it. So I guess it’s okay. 😉
I’m going old-fashioned today with vintage EA Blue Grass edp. Spicy and warm with a pronounced carnation note, yet as green and cool as lying on a bed of grass, it’s a favorite of mine on a cool and cloudy June day and always reminds me of the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky. I smell like a grandma, and since I’m very lucky to be one, that’s a good thing!
Lovely, my mother always used the Blue Grass cream deodorant, my father would bring it from the US. You smell like a wonderful grandma!
Oh man, this is one of the few perfumes my mother ever wore. I’d entirely forgotten until I read the words Blue Grass and then I could hear her saying them!
I’m trying my brand new sample of Parfum d’Empire Azemour. Wow! I never thought I was a chypre person but I just love this. Plus, I only dabbed on a little and it’s still going strong hours later.
Does anyone know if this is still available in 50 ml anywhere?
Maybe eBay might have it?
Isn’t that great stuff? Glad it found another fan.
You smell looovely.
On vintage Dior J’Adore. I love how the notes develop from the vivid greens to radiant florals to a fabulous milky drydown. A wonderful jewel that I am enjoying!
I wore this when it came out and your description is spot-on. I’ve got a sample of the new formulation sitting out that I’ve been meaning to try…
Kpaint, you are right. I have a decant of the new version and is really disappointing. I wore it 2 times and after that it went to the back of my perfume cabinet. Nothing compared to the vintage.
I have a bottle I won at a fragrance fair when it first came out, I was so excited because I rarely win anything. But I could just never get into the scent. I keep thinking I should give it to someone who appreciates it but then when I read a positive post such as yours and I think perhaps I’ll try it again and perhaps this time i’ll ‘get’ it. I tried it again recently and had my same negative reaction. I’m going to try it again tomorrow (pre-shower and pre-SOTD) and see if I can smell all those lovely notes you’ve described.
Laila, please let me know how it goes once you try again. Give it some time. It is really a gorgeous scent.
Finally wearing the Tauer Incense Extreme that I didn’t get to wear yesterday. To be honest, I think I’m wearing enough for both days. 🙂
That works! 🙂
Love the Pantone rainbow! It and Orange Sanguine are just the thing for a gloomy, muggy, grey day.
Hope everyone who was under the weather yesterday is feeling better.
I will have limited Internet access, if I have any, until the 4th of July. Keep smelling great, NST!
I would love to have that little aqua speaker. But already have a jambox so it would admittedly be a silly waste of money.
Enjoy your time away from the internets!
Thanks!
Scents of the day = Hiris + Terracotta. Accidental combo. Weird, but it works.
Wow, that is hard to even imagine.
Ha! It helps that I’m dabbing from samples. I picked up Hiris and dabbed it on one wrist, got distracted and put down Hiris, accidentally picked up Terracotta, dabbed the other wrist, then absent-mindedly rubbed my arms together.
If I were spritzing from full bottles this might be awful, or not, hard to say. 😉
Today’s SOTD is at the mercy of baseball superstition, which must be obeyed: Habit Rouge. I spritzed some on yesterday before my Wildcats’ World Series game because (1) it has a leather note and (2) it has ‘red’ in the name. They won. I’m wearing it again. ????
Congrats and good luck! Fingers crossed . . . . here’s to baseball superstition!
Thx! Yes, baseball superstition’s the best! I love hearing the various things players and managers do/did. Example: keeping the pens (for the lineups or scoring) in a freezer…!
My husbad wore the same shirt for all of the World Series games. Only worked for a couple of games (Mets fan).
I topped up HR with his sister Shalimar while at Ulta, so I’m sniffing myself silly now.
Two wristed test today, since the only OG I have right now is En Passant, and I am saving that for Friday. On my left, the almost gaudily fragrant Chant d’Aromes..not shy, not restrained, slightly soapy with all that orange blossom, keeps going like the Energizer bunny. Selected because it is supposed to have narcissus in it. Great stuff. I like to wear this to work when I need to get a lot done. On my right Memo Siwa, also supposed to be a narcissus scent. Quieter, also very very pretty in the beginning. Later the popcorn comes out, and that puts me off this. Odd. I don’t like food on my arms.
I find popcorn – or any corn, for that matter – in scents extremely offputting. 🙁
Popcorn and that true butter scent-ugh! My very first job was making popcorn at the local theater when I was 14 or 15. Must be some residual reaction to that. 🙂
Robin, you are wearing my absolute favourite 4160 scent. On me it is a very sexy, but not quite improper skin scent that wafts clean beeswax with the animalistic honey note as a low hum.
STD: Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic from a set of adorable minis I bought in the duty free in Porto coming home from holiday in May. I had always avoided this particular AA until I asked the Guerlain SA in Lisbon what she was wearing. Citrus notes can go very sour on me, but the basil gives this one a more complex set of notes. Perfect for a screaming hot Nova Scotia afternoon.
Obviously ( I hope) that should be SOTD 😛
We’re all giving you the benefit of the doubt. 😉
AA Mandarine Basilic is nice. It’s th only one I like in the AA line. It layers well with Terre d’Hermes.
Well then I really am going to have to give it a proper try later!
Oh how I wish I could wear 4160 Tuesday. So many frags look so appealing, but the four I’ve tried were all amplified versions of whatever base is used and my nose didn’t like it at all. However, my skin loved it because I couldn’t get it off. Just makes me sad because the notes and descriptions are so fun and enticing.
Today I’m in Sisley Eau du Soir. For fun, I’ve been pondering the most catty, loud, take no prisoners layering project. EDS + L’Arte di Gucci + Diva. I may try it just for fun when I’m not expecting any company and want to feel like a villainess from an 80’s evening soap opera. 🙂
Totally off topic, what’s up with Chanel frags? I’m down to a few drops of No. 5 edp and have read terrifying things about the latest versions of their frags post 2015 reformulation.
Where can a girl get some decent No. 5 around here? Just picking up my nearly empty bottle makes me get the sads. I can’t be without it.
Thanks. 🙂
I was just thinking about how cheap and easy-to-come-by Chanel No 5 is when I sprayed some vintage extrait last night. There’s a glut of it on auction sites, and if you don’t mind used bottles, it’s dirt cheap. IIRC my nearly full bottle of late 90s/early 00s EDP cost me less than $25 on ebay. (It’s also safer to buy used bottles as there’s virtually no risk of their being counterfeit – it’s the sealed, new Chanel bottles that one has to be careful about.)
Agree about ebay if you want the edt, edp or extrait. But thanks to Oakland Fresca, I can also recommend the current No. 5 body oil. It smells more like pre-2015 no 5 than either the current edt or edp.
+1 on the oil.
Is there anything worse than the madness that takes hold when offered a gift with purchase during a 5 minute dash into a perfume store? Sparkly, silver Angel Sucree temporary tattoos anyone? Yes please!
And what about the part of the brain that actually says, Go on try one. Put a star above your eye brow ….just for fun…just before you take your son to the dentist. This is the perfume equivalent of unprotected sex. Don’t do it. Ever.
Ha! Free gift is irresistable… Got a jar of Angel body powder that way.
????
Those little speakers are so cute!!!
I’m wearing Bottega Veneta today. I hadn’t worn it in a long time so decided it needed some love this morning. Interestingly enough, while it smells the same as always close up, when I just get a whiff in the air, it smells different than usual, kind of drier and earthier. Not bad, just different.
Started off in Sous le Vent but after a bike ride and a shower, I’ve switched to Cuir Cannage. It’s a steambath here in Montreal.
Casaubon, return to SD!
Thanks to the community project, wearing Diptyque Eau de Lavande, and it turns out to be the perfect choice — calming with an attitude.
i want some of that…Calm down, already!

I am wearing my sample of Cuir de Lancome and dying to buy a FB.
Are there sales on perfume online this time of year?
Gabriela, beautyspin has 50ml for $49.95. I’ve bought from them and never had a problem. Btw, the cap of the Cuir de Lancôme bottles is invariably wonky for some reason, so wherever you buy it from don’t consider that to be a sign that you were duped.
God I almost cried with that price but they don’t ship to Spain!!!
Any one coming to Spain this summer? ????
Just bought a bottle! Thank you sooooo much Holly.
SOTD is Penhaligon’s “Ellenisia” as a substitute for the OG “Elixir” – the substitution criteria being “something a bad online supermarket would choose because the words sort of look like each other”.
I was afraid Ellenisia would be a BWF with its notes of jasmine/tuberose/gardenia (like I’d know one from the other), but it’s a well enough behaved LWF instead. Not my bag, though.
LOL!
SOTD = Gold Leather. That bottle together with Tobacco Nuit is calling my name. Have to stay strong and not give in.
Lazy today as I continue errands and things to help my Dad., while limiting time in the heat. Lavish spraying of the cheapo pink Love 2 Love.
Better late than never!
SOTD = Prada Purple Rain
It was yucky out this morning – last night’s heavy rain did nothing to cool things off – it was just warm damp and gray. I had a semi-frustrating day. Tomorrow, I get to tell a bunch of people that if they want to play in my sandbox later this year, the entrance fee is a Project Plan; I will not bail them out again.
Sorry about your day and good luck for tomorrow. I spent a bit of time yesterday reading about Al-Rehab oils. There are so many of them it’s hard to know where to start. But so interesting.
Thanks! I have Chocolate-Musk and the name describes it. It is a good layerer!
Ahh…sounds good
It’s desert heat here today (100+ F, 24% humidity), so I’m wearing Aliage, pretty much the only scent that I can enjoy in such conditions.
Pretty warm here today and wearing Annick Goutal Vetiver. Its unique marine notes of driftwood and seaweed, among others makes it a very unique fragrance. The earthy aspect is the one that I enjoy the most, even though it makes it very masculine and strong. A great scent that reminds me of happy and relaxing days by the ocean.
