Darn, another Monday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Crown Eau de Russe, from my now ancient decant.
Reminder: this Friday, 12/11, wear a perfume by Pierre Bourdon, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Your perfume today sounds interesting, Robin. I hadn’t heard of that one. It’s a shame it was cut based on what your review said.
It’s Monday. Game face day. I did my nails last night (Dior Vibrato – so shiny!) and time to get to work. Wearing 31 RC to keep myself in “serious” mode and hopefully not fall asleep. On my second cuppa now.
The closest thing I know is Institut Tres Bien Eau de Russe, which likewise got discontinued but now is back. I have not tried it since the brand was resurrected though!
That’s high praise for both! I should add this to my list to hunt down.
Bois des Îles: it’s a little cooler today, and misty, so BdI is perfect.
I should wear that this week!
Me too. And 31RC.
I’m wearing BdI too. It was a good choice for what has turned out to be a hectic Monday!
I don’t own a single Bourdon creation, so I’ll have to be creative on Friday. I’m wearing my sample of Œillet Bengale today. Very pretty, and very restrained, and while I think it’s a great perfume it’s not me, so far.
I know many people won’t, so don’t worry about it! I just hate to skip such an important perfumer.
I didnt think I had any either but it turns out I have 3, so I even have options, if the weather is right.
I managed to be very stupid, again, and read until 4am. So I’m wearing Lumiere Blanche, it’s a good scent for these kind of days. I also need another cup of coffee.
Must have been a good book! I do the same thing occasionally and each time vow “never again”. At least you’ll sleep well tonight.
It wasn’t even that good, but difficult to put down. And yes, I can already feel I’ll sleep well tonight 🙂 It’s afternoon here and I’m slumping.
It always seems like such a good idea at the time.. 🙂
Yeah… And somehow I never learn.
Well I occasionally watch some old film or tv-series that I have recorded till late. I love late evenings, but the bother of getting up in the morning afterwards!
I’m an owl as well, but I really should learn to manage it better.
I sleep really badly, but I’m also a lark. No matter what, at five a.m., I’ll be ready to get moving, wake the rest of the world and face the day. By two o’clock in the afternoon, I will have turned completely batty, bouncing off the walls, and people who know me try NEVER to have meetings with me after two. I read lots of books because of this way of being, though I’m never sure which causes which: whether the reading stops my brain from settling, or I can’t sleep anyway, so I read.
Ironically, I found it difficult to fall asleep yesterday, but I think it was the fault of over-tiredness, rather than reading. It must be horrible to sleep badly on a regular basis – I don’t sleep enough, but when I finally do, I usually have no issues.
I really do like this one, but it fades on me in less than two hours! I wear the sample you gave me at night because the hubs is kinda picky about scents I wear to bed. This one really is gorgeous though. I woke up this morning with it on my pjs and it was a really pleasant way to wake up.
I sprayed it in the morning and I can still smell it almost 12 hours later, but I also spray liberally and it’s very quiet by now. Wearing it to bed might be the ideal solution for you, if it refuses to stick around otherwise 🙂
Yes, I’m thinking I should spray my pillows with it 🙂
I am so bad T doing that- must husband has made me a bit better but my natural tendency is very much to work or read really rather late. I always seem to go fro something like n19’or a cologne or oddly a dark rose after doing that!
I find that Cristalle works well, too, but haven’t tried a dark rose yet.
Scent twins! Doused myself in it today 🙂
And i’ve done the same many times as I’m definitely owlish too.
Hi, twin! Smelling good.
Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte this morning..but may change after I shower into something like TF noir pour Femme or Shalimar Soufflé
Had a great weekend with family as we celebrated my baby’s first b-day. She turns 1 tomorrow. This time last year I was in the midst of my 36 hour labor marathon. Thank goodness for my midwife who helped me through the whole thing. Have a good week ahead everyone
Congratulations on your baby’s first birthday!
Oh yay for 1st Birthday! How adorable! The labour sounds anything but, but so worth it!
and hope the next one is a breeze. 3 hrs sounds good 😉
3 hours can be a bit too quick sometimes tho, my third was born in the car, on the way to the natural birthing centre!
(6 hours is my ideal labour length, my second was wonderful)
Happy birthday Lovestosmellgood Jr.! 🙂
And I’m just marveling once again- a one year old and pregnancy too! Sounds lovely but exhausting. Hope the perfume fortifies you.
Thanks all! She ate her first piece of cake like a elegant refined little lady. I was shocked.
Cristalle does a good job with waking me up in the a.m-especially when I am this groggy.
Ahh, glad she enjoyed her birthday cake!
Congratulations on your baby’s first birthday, it must be such a great milestone!
Sweet. Happy Birthday, little one! Have you watched that Masterpiece show “Call the Midwife”? I loved that show and recommend it if you haven’t. Gave me a real appreciation of midwifery.
Congrats on baby’s 1st!
I don’t have any Bourdon fragrances either, not even a sample. I’m wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar today. I always pick a favorite scent on Mondays to help ease myself into a new work week. Happy Monday!
You smell fantastic!
You smell fabulous!
It’s already Monday!? Too fast!
SOTD: Chanel Jersey Extrait.
nice–like that one in spite of my usual aversion to lavender.
I am using up the last of my Amouage Beloved decant today. I finally caved and bought a FB (its been on my list forever) for a sort-of reasonable price at fragrance net. This always happens to me over the holidays – I spend money on gifts and it somehow triggers buying things for myself as well. I will try to restrain myself from now on. Anyway, it is a wonderful, versatile, scent and I’m looking forward to receiving my FB.
I am sure it’s worth it!
Similar to how I went for my FB Beloved. I found myself saving up my decant, then I knew I had to have it. Never regretted it for a second. Enjoy!
I’m feeling guilty, so thank you for your encouraging words.
I just bought a FB of Beloved too. Darn Fragrance Net. It was a really good deal. I’m curious if either of you have tried Memoir?
I loved the review on NST of Beloved, i love ‘easy’ but also special perfume’s. My hubby is (hopefully!) getting me Epic for christmas, which i think would also fall into this catogory. will ask for sample of Beloved with it!
I have not tried Memoir. I am already in love with Gold, Jub 25, Dia, Lyric and Epic (and of course Beloved) so I am almost afraid to try anything else from this house.
I love Journey woman & Ubar in addition to the ones listed.
Not to mention Fate! So many good ones from this house.
I tried Memoir last week. It’s potent! It was incensy and well blended that it was hard to identify any notes in particular. I found it too soapy for my liking in the first hour.
Good to know. One of my besties was asking me if I had tried it. She may actually enjoy it then since she seems to like soapy scents. I will report back to her pronto.
Ditto. I totally do the “xmas to me” type stuff when buying presents as well. The sales are good enough usually to be worth it and I don’t like putting certain super expensive items on my wishlists that fam/friends see.
I have recently really fallen for Beloved. Also amazingly as I put on the sample my husband gave me he commented how good it smelled- and he never does that and hadn’t even sniffed it before going it to me(part of an advent calendar present). Can’t wait to try more of the Amouage perfumes, and I am sure you will absolutely adore having Beloved in your collection.
i’m intrigued by the perfume/advent calender present?, please tell me more!
Oh I had a Liberty advent calendar before and this year it is being refilled with all sorts of goodies- for a man who claims to know nothing about this he has surpassed himself- and a mini of Beloved was Saturday’s surprise. Sometimes I am quite amazed in the best way at how well he picks presents. So not something one can buy but actually something one could certainly make!
I think it’s a good one to have as a FB since it’s so versatile and wearable. I’m going through my decant pretty quickly because it’s not a powerhouse and I just really like it. It’s on my theoretical buy list.
Hi! I’m only wearing BBW Vanille, pumpkin & marshmallow body lotion today. It’s highly scented. The tube is now completely used up. I’m ready for Christmas scents now!
This year, I’m hosting an AFS student from Thailand. She is 16 and she loves BBW! She bought lots of candles and lotions for us to share. She is so happy when I use them!
I was an AFS exchange student.. .err.. in 1983! So glad the organization is still going strong. Kudos to you for welcoming a student into your family!!
Thanks very much! You are very nice! It’s a great life experience and we are all learning a lot from it. I’m so happy I did it. I’ve never been this busy in my life!
Also, if I could get 1$ every time someone says “What? You don’t get paid for doing this!!!”, I’d be super rich! 🙂
Pressies in the mail today! 🙂
My been-wanting-forever Lonestar Memories, blind-buy of Hiram Green Journey and samples! Yay!
Journey I like. The top-notes are somewhat reminiscent of scented pantyliners which stops it from being love, but it does move past that and is a very pretty perfume. It’s not as spicy as I would’ve thought.
But of spicy and love…. BeauFort London!! I asked for samples of all 3 and I love them! 1805 is the smokiest and most masculine and my least favourite by a small margin, but Coeur de Noir and East India are beautiful. EA is a bit fruity with lots of spices (similar in feel to AA Nuit Rouge which it has knocked off it’s podium) and CdN is rum, paper, leather and utter fabulousness. I had a feeling Id like these based on their descriptions and am not disappointed at all 🙂
Hiram Green did a scent called Journey? I missed that somehow…off to read about it!
You want to know something silly? When he did a visit at Twisted Lily here in New York, I got too shy to talk to him. Utterly ridiculous. If it’s someone ridiculous like a Kardashian or another celebrity, I don’t care, but a perfumer? I became shy and awed.
And I’m also going to go do research on these Beaufort scents…
My bad- Voyage. Same as a Journey but different 😉 Limited edition, 250 bottles. Mine is 180, and it’s ‘get-it-before-it’s-gone’ status got me trigger happy on the Buy Now button…
Aw, I just had a look at him and he looks so sweet and approachable 😉 Now if it had been Filipo Sorcinelli of Unum I’d be mute and staring… 😉
Oh yes– agreed about Voyage’s weird top notes but I like how it wears as it dries down. I think you’ll enjoy your bottle!
Im still trying to decide whether to put it’s puffy-sprayer on.. It looks much prettier with it, but long-term it probably isnt the best option. So Im just dabbing for now. Hmm.. first world problems huh…
Congratulations on your bottle! And agreed on the puffy-sprayer thing. I always here that perfumes evaporate more quickly in bottles with those.
He was totally sweet to everyone else that spoke to him! I just felt (at that time) too ignorant to ask questions, which I know is silly. I think I’d be better now, but for an outgoing person, I can get shy in very specific situations.
Perthie – did you mean Hiram Green’s Voyage? Just want to be sure. If there’s another scent to smell, all the better!
Hello ladies and gents!
My blind-bought bottle of Calligraphy Rose (I was weak) came on Friday and I’m fairly contented with it, so I’m wearing it in my hair today. It’s received good reviews so far, though it wasn’t nearly as provocative as I was expecting.
Put up my very first little plastic Christmas tree this weekend, and lit a Thymes Fraiser Fir candle. It made me soooo happy.
Best wishes to all!
Ohh! You bought the one you weren’t going to get! Lol 😉 do you think it smells similar to Fille de Berlin too?
Ha – I know! Apparently, by my warped, fumie logic, a full bottle that’s $30 is basically free.
I personally find little similarity between these two scents, but my skin is known for doing strange things to some perfumes (MKK doesn’t show up almost at all, though I’d love it to, and Amouage Fate is a beautiful but soft little thing). La Fille de Berlin is a winy, rich rose on my skin, and Calligraphy Rose is powdery. I need more time with it but I’m struck with how different I find them to be.
That sounds like my sort of logic too. You make calligraphy rose sound rather interesting and glad you’re enjoying it.
im just googling you’re candle now, really want one that smells like Fille en Aiguilles.. i know thats a lot to ask, but i’m ever hopeful!
I love straight up pine as well, as long as its not smelling like toilet duck!
This scent isn’t like Fille en Aiguilles unfortunately, but it does smell wonderfully like conifers and Christmastime.
I too would love a Fille en Aiguilles candle! I wonder if anyone here has something like it to recommend?
Good idea, please share any suggestions any one!
I’ve seen those in the offing on eBay…I like the concept and the bottle is pretty!
I’ve got a big old bottle so if you’re interested in a decant, let me know!
Oh yes! About a month ago I purchased zillions of decanting supplies and have been waiting to share with someone. Pls email me at ann dottiness eisenberg atta comcast dottiness net… I’d love to send you something in exchange!!
I’m very curious to hear how this smells!
Annikky – it’s a little early for me to say yet, but on my skin (which is very far from normal!) it’s a warm, cozy, rose-inflected scent. I need more time to properly analyze (I can’t smell it at all right now), but it is pretty. I’ll report on it more later!
I am sure you smell lovely! congrats on the new bottle!
Thank you!
BTW, I spent some time with Fate this weekend too….ooooh man is that thing pretty. 🙂
I love Thymes Frasier Fir! I’ve bought it so many times! Their lotions are really nice too.
I’d heard too many good things, so I had to try it. Wonderful throw and it created a lovely mood. I’m hooked!
I’m scented with a sample of Angelique by Papillon perfumery. Readers, I’ve smelled it before. Any suggested if you’ve tried it, what was it similar to?
Ann Gerard Cuir de Nacre came to mind but I couldn’t be sure because my mini of that one is now in my other house.
Hello I really liked Angelique and it vaguely reminded me of a more honeyed Mimosa pour Moi.
SOTD is Chanel 19 EDP, for Monday strength. Argh.
Hope it’s working!
You smell super nice!
Happy Monday. SOTD = Sotto La Luna Tuberose
Good, enjoy!
ELDO Bijou Romantique for me today.
My exciting bit of news from over the weekend is that I *finally* managed to give away my unloved and unwanted bottle of Angel. Besides just being thrilled that it’s gone, I suddenly have a little extra space in my perfume drawer… 🙂
A gaping hole TO BE FILLED….
I’ve gotta admire your enthusiasm, OF.
I had a bottle of Chanel #19 that I never wore and really didn’t care for….it just didn’t work for me. I finally remembered to bring it to work and pass it along to a coworker who loves it! It’s great to give things away to those who will enjoy and use! 🙂
Good for you Eleebelle ! I have a few bottles that I stupidly blind bought and now I just want them gone. I put them on Ebay but no offers yet. I may have to donate them or leave them in a ladies room somewhere. I’ve done that before but it was only a rollerball. I never learn!
Unwanted toiletries (esp nearly-full bottles of perfume, and unopened other things) can find new homes at women’s shelters.
I’m having the United War Vererans something organization pick up stuff tomorrow morning. I am going to be pretty ruthless with my unloved perfumes but of course, I am saving some for the freebie meet.
Monday! Only 4 more work days until the weekend 😉
SOTD is the awesomeness that is SL Chergui.
You smell lovely!, i’ve bought this for hubby for christmas, i know for a fact that he won’t be as excited to receive it as i was buying it, but can’t wait to smell it on him! (outside of the department store that is)
Nice! I would love to get a Christmas gift like that! He’ll smell outstanding!
Yummm!
Wearing one of my most favorite of cheap thrills, Bijan. The only scent I own by Pierre Bourdon is Cool Water, which I have had since the 1990s, when it seemed all I owned were the aquatics so prevalent back then. I just don’t think I can bring myself to wear it.
Aw come on, do it for the cause! 🙂
LOL — just what I was going to say! It’s the granddaddy of them all.
SSS Lieu de Reves..forgot how much I love this discontinued beauty….however I added a layer of Spanish Amber to go with the cold weather (the violets in Lieu make me think of spring and not the approach of winter)
It’s Monday….but only 10 more days until STAR WARS!!!
We adopted a 5 month kitten from Petco yesterday! “Shadow” is a solid black fellow and claimed my kids immediately. He made it very clear that he was choosing us to bust him out of the Humane Society’s lockup! 🙂 It was mutual love at first sight, so no way we could leave him there. Even my husband agreed that this cat worked some serious mojo on the family, and said yes on the spot. Merry Christmas Shadow! He joins my 3 kids, 1 dog, 1 cat, and 1 gecko in our family zoo….
SOTD: Modern Muse Le Rouge. I’m groovin’ on this scent right now…It’s probably going to be my favorite scent of the year!
Shadow sounds like a great addition to the family!
Congratulations on your new family member!
I’m with you on Star Wars!
Yay for Shadow! 😀
Good for you and your family!
we have 2 rescue cats-they bring us so much love and sometimes so much grief (one broke a very expensive wedding frame and ripped the leaves off of two of our plants-but all is forgiven and the plants found a new home)
Wonderful! So happy you found such a great kitty and you are getting a rescue. There are so many that need homes!
My hubs and I are in the process of adopting child number 2 – another cat as a friend for our current cat, who can be a total terror and really needs a playmate. We spent 3 hours petting cats at our local rescue yesterday and I think we’ve narrowed it down.
Awww – yay!!! I’m delighted to hear this, for your family AND for the kitty! I volunteered for years with rescue cats and I know that the black ones don’t always get adopted (silly superstitions). Congratulations to the whole family!
Congrats on Shadow and good on you for giving a rescue cat a home. We have two and love them so much!
I adopted two of my four cats from Petsmart. Now I avoid Petsmart like the plague during adoption weekends, and avoid looking at the cats housed at Petsmart. I tell myself everytime I go in – you don’t need another cat…. I think it’s great that you chose an older kitten. As we all know the older the cat the less chance that they will be adopted.
I love that this guy is a bit older (5 months)….he’s already completely litter box trained, is eating well, and is a little more independent. He’s a sweetheart! Can’t wait to get home and play with him!
ConCATulations! He sounds sweet.
Wearing the lovely Azemour today and appreciating having a citrus that stands up to winter! I wish I had tucked the (very large) bottle in my purse, though, as I’d love to reapply this afternoon.
I’ve given up using the Travalos. Unless you use the contents right away, the perfume evaporates and separates in the little containers. Anyone else have this problem?
I’ve never used them farouche, thanks for the tip off!
I usually find my decants in clear glass or plastic vials last quite well.
i have a handful of 5ml plastic vials, which i’m just sadly finishing, which have lasted well, since last Autumn. I always keep them in the dark/in a box.
I am really looking forward to one day owning a FB of Azemour, alas it probably won’t be till next Autumn, as my list is rather long, its wonderful stuff.
That’s what I’ll have to do: just make 5 or 8 ml decants of my most worn fragrances to pop in a handbag.
Oh, that’s really too bad! I’ve only been using them for a little while, and so far so good but thanks for the notice they don’t hold up over the long haul–guess I will not buy anymore!
You should be fine as long as you use them in a timely fashion. I had a number of them and didn’t use them except for vacations and to bring along in a purse.
I really appreciate the head’s up!
If my memory is correct, Valerie at Bonkers for Perfume noted the same problem.
Good for short term…not good for long term.
Is Incense Week over? Why no! SOTD is Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure. Mmmmm
Last evening it was my turn for the dreaded holiday-party-with-strangers. Which actually turned out to be fairly fun, and provided me with an excuse to pull out my first “Christmas” perfume of the season — The Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest. I should wear that more.
Hee hee . There’s no escape.
oOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo… My head. My wallet. My life. My arms are lifted to the sky (think Vivien Leigh/Scarlet O’Hara…”I’ll never go on a spending bender again!”)
I went totally nuts over the weekend getting online holiday gifts… a trip to Beauty Habit for lip balm in a pretty tin for my mom… and a Java skin/perfume/incense thingy jumped into my basket… the whole weekend was like that… my WORST? Buying a tie for my fatherinlaw @ Barney’s Warehouse….which inspired me to check out Hermes ties… which naturally inspired me to consider one…then TWO for my husband (I usually get his ties at Nordstrom Rack–this is a SERIOUS departure) and then, somehow, no idea how, a coffret of four Hermessences wound up in my basket… Groannnnnnn…. the credit card bills… but the wonderful perfumes… so pretty… coming soon… sigh!
I’m in Soleil de Jeddah from SHL, from a sample I got at Scent Bar. Very interesting leather, but I am glad I did not get an FB. For me, this is a wonderful curiosity, but I think I would find it “too much” too quickly.
It’s the holidays. I’m ashamed to say that I often buy more unplanned gifts for myself than things for others.
You are not alone. Oh the guilt, the guilt …
Whee!! Which Hermessences were so forward as to jump into your cart? 🙂
Hmmmmggggghh… So, I couldn’t even remember (ohhh the aching head…) but I just checked my Hermes receipt (“Ouch!!”) and it turns out I ordered: Poivre Samarcande, Osmanthe Yunnan, Ambre Narguilé, and Brin de Réglisse…
Just view it as the perfume equivalent of getting a dog/ cat from the ASPCA…you saw the perfume’s sad face, your heart melted and you thought ‘ I can give you a good home, little fella. I can take you away from this dreary warehouse. I will love you and keep you close, every day. wOuld you like to come home with me?’
The perfume nods but can’t believe it’s luck. The tie blinks it’s big sad eyes ( its mate does the same) and your heart melts…’ You too! There’s room for everyone!’
See …what you did was a public service.
HA. So I’m not the only one who thinks this way, huh? Poor neglected perfume, needs a loving home…
So that’s how it happens! I understand now. “Look, Richard, it followed me home…it’s only little, just 30 mls. Can I keep it?”
This is what happens to me with books… And plush animals… And I do not dare to go near a pet shelter. Goodness knows what will happen if that happens with perfume too!
Just think:, your dear one will look suave and dapper in his beautiful ties and your scented self will be all of a gorgeous match with him. See, this is what I think: life is short, so buy the perfume.
Oh gosh, gorgeous choices!! Congrats, I def think that set is one you’ll be happy to have–it’s so nice to have small bottles, they hold up so much better than decants and then you don’t have to feel daunted if it’s not juice you use up fast!
Oh, dear, how unfortunate that things got so cheeky to end up in your basket 😉
I tried Kanuka’s message of empowerment (I saved the bottles from a fate worse than shelf time!), but I cannot help but gravitate to victimhood (the bottles jumped me. I was just sitting there thinking of presents for others and WHAM the cheeky devils wormed their way into my possession. I was an innocent bystander! I saw nothing!)
Thank you for the opportunity to process.
Same problem with cakes in cafes…
Rain, rain, rain, blessed rain. And with it comes a bit of warmth to counteract the super chill we have had the past month. It feels kinda springlike! But it’s the El Nino we have all been wanting for the past few years.
SOTD: Chanel #5 Premiere- it seems to cut through the mugginess. OOTD: Cream Silk blouse, slim navy pants, short brown boots with high heels,
SOTD is Venetian Bergamot (Tom Ford), it is very very nice, citrussy up top, then pepperry, then dries dpwn to a slight sandalwood…it’s crrrrrreeeeeaaammmmmy.
No perfume for me yet today: haven’t had a chance to shower yet, instead I’m now in my fifth hour in four days on the line with Verizon tech support. When I lived in France I used to be homesick for American customer service. Hahaha foolish child.
Good luck with Verizon!
Thank you–I REALLY need it!!
At least it’s not Comcast/Xfinity…..
Question: How can we legalize all drugs but have no drugs on the street?
Answer: Sell them thru Comcast customer service! 🙂
Ha!
Laughsob!! Too, too accurate.
Ooh, sorry. I had to call AT&T three times this weekend and still don’t know if anyone I’ve talked to understood my problem. Hope your luck is 100% better than mine.
Unfortunately I think we’re having just the same luck. Now up to six hours on the line with them just this week (…and this has been going on since August, false charges on my account and services we pay for not working). The supervisor I dealt with today SWEARS it’s all back in place and will be working by tomorrow, but everyone I’ve dealt with up to this point has actually managed to introduce a new problem each time I called, so, I’m not holding my breath…
May luck turn around for us both!!
Ouch! Mine is similar. Closed an old account last month, all paid up – no problem. Now I’m getting past due notices from August and September. They keep assuring me that my final payment has posted (um, yeah…) and telling me to log on to the website to check my payment history. Of course, my account is closed and I can’t check my history. I ask, do they want my confirmation numbers from my payments? No, they can see that a payment posted on Friday…can they have my new account number? Why? so they can verify that I’m benefiting from all their promotions and services, of course. Did I hear about the Visa gift card if I sign up for…
And so on.
“And so on.” Exactly. Man. I really do hope luck will turn for us both–at this point, I basically think it’s just chance whether things work as they should or not! Phone service seems to exist in some parallel universe that does not necessarily operate according to cause and effect!
Really, the term “customer service” is so…vague. We need to come up with a better descriptor. Debtor Discipline? Codependent Quasicommunications? Put on your thinking caps!
Short and pithy, like “Customer Limbo” as in the Latin limbes, or edge of hell… (apologies to Dante)…?
Oh I like this–both accurate and also carries the appropriate connotations of inferno!
How natural it sounds. . . . “Sorry dinner is so late kids. I found myself in Customer Limbo with Verizon for six hours where absolutely nothing happened. Can someone pass the salt?”
Yes: I regret how easily I can envision that fitting into my day-to-day life!!
Yes SERIOUSLY. Like “Customer Misdirection Until They Just Give Up And Pay The Unapproved Charges Appearing On Their Bill Every Month” (…Oakland Fresca’s was much pithier than mine 🙂 )
Still debating what to wear. I got a sample of TF Noir Pour Femme over the weekend and am pretty obsessed, so I will likely wear that. It’s thankfully taking over the spot that Amouage Sunshine was in; which is good, since it’s actually far less expensive! Ha!
I love TF NPF-enjoy it!
TF Noir Pour Femme is pretty addicting 😉
Chanel No. 22 is my SOTD. I went to a Christmas party last night, and No. 22 was perfect for the occasion. I’m wearing it again today.
I still need to sample 22. Wearing No. 19, still on a green binge. Lovely.
Though sadly does little to curb my sarcasm.
“Sarcasm is the body’s natural defense against stupid. ”
I saw that on a bumper sticker or something, and immediately understood it as an absolute truth 😉
I want that bumper sticker! ????
Yves Rocher Rose Oud. It’s very…STRONG. Not heavy on the oud, a bit peppery, a bit acidic. A bit nice.
…and no sweaty cumin detected! ????
Belle en Rykiel, i have a mini of this unusual gourmand, the notes of lavender, coffee, incense and red berries should be horrible, but i think it’s really nicely done. wish it was stronger tho.
Shame it’s discontinued!
This one really hits the spot sometimes, I like it in the cold.
Today I needed some AT Sotto La Luna Gardenia, so that is what I am wearing.
You smell lovely!
Hello, everyone. I need to encourage myself through a Tedious Tuesday, so I took my inspiration today from all lovers of 31 Rue Cambon. I smell fabulous! I have to say this myself, ‘cos the dear one just uttered an indecipherable non-word when I asked him to sniff my wrist– a sort of cross between a grunt and a hum. I think it was an approving sound, but I’m not completely sure. I’m looking forward to temperatures that will encourage me to wear the scents I think do best in true summer, but the weather remains irresolute and uncooperative. However, I’m not really complaining: it’s not as though it’s a hardship to wear 31RC!
I’m wearing Do Son, which doesn’t feel right on a damp and overcast day in the Northeast, but it was the sample my fingers closed around this morning, and I’m enjoying it anyhow. My Chanel No. 19 soap arrived this morning! Thanks to the NST enabler who introduced me to it. I have a very hard time using scented soaps. They are so delicious that I can’t bear to; they can linger for years in drawers. No Bourdon at all at my house.
Vintage Scherrer EDT. It’s quickly becoming one of my favourites. It’s just green and lovely . . . and cost only five quid.
Then sprayed Paloma Picasso on my way home. A manure/barnyard mossy topnote that then vanishes into a sweet-ish nothing.
Oh, and Elie Saab on the other wrist. Verry nice white floral that felt like ‘me’. But it also went pooft in the space of 30 minutes. Dunno what’s wrong with perfume these days *tsk tsk*.
Vintage Scherrer edt was a good find–and actually is quite long-lived on me. Still haven’t tried Paloma Picasso, and am surprised it vanished. Was under the impression it’s a heavy-hitter.
Last night I tucked a round Roger & Gallet carnation soap under my pillow (Thank you Waterdragon for the marvellous gift ) and every time I woke during the night I was aware of a soft, spicy scent…a real night time sleeping outdoors scent. I had amazing dreams: got chased by sharks through a long dark tunnel and then got ripped to shreds in a feeding frenzy ( lucky I didn’t have that prior to the weekend party with the psychiatrist/ psychologist) . My room smells wonderful. I think soap dreams must rank as the most memorable so will try again tonight with an almond soap and see what happens.
I should try that! Tonight, I’ll try the carnation trick. I’d prefer not to dream about sharks, but we’ll see.
Oooh, I just got the Carnation as a gift from a fabulous NSTer and it will be next on the list to be used!
The only Pierre Bourdon I own is Iris Poudre; I don’t know if I’ll wear it this Friday as I’m in the warm, powdery embrace of Habanita now. Oh, the new adopted cat used the litterbox yesterday but is still crammed under the guest room nightstand when I go in the room. Baby steps!
I think that’s the only one I have as well – makes the decision easy. Sounds like kitty is making progress! I had one that hid under the bed for years.
Am sampling Blackbird from House of Matriarch which is so far a big smoky leather with a teeny amount of greenery around the edges to temper it
Do you like ot? I have a decant somewhere which I have not tried yet.
No scent for me so far today – got a headache this morning, so don’t want to aggravate it. I did put on some B&BW Brown Sugar & Fig lotion that I found while going through some drawers the other day. I must have bought that a while ago because I know that one is long discontinued. So many good ones discontinued (of course) – Tangerine Spice, Citrus Cream, this one, and some of the real old school ones, like original freesia (the first thing I ever bought from them way way way back – I had never even heard of freesia at that point!) and Seaspray (just thinking og that label brings me back to college), and so many others!
Original Freesia was the smell of my honeymoon… it was so good.
Aw 🙂
Getting sadly towards the end of a sample of Noir Epices and it was perfect today for a day of intense meetings and my new work and travel. Might go for Beloved after a shower this pm though to relax.
Sorry hard work not new work!
I got myself a bottle of NE this month. It’s beautiful, and unlike anything else I own. So I can understand your sadness.
I’ve got a 3ml sample of NE, lovely and unusual.
It has been a surprise as on paper the notes didn’t sound especially ‘me’ but clearly that is not the best way to decide! Seems especially appropriate in winter for work.
It really is quite unique isn’t it. Which means the Malle coffret is getting more tempting…
I love rhis one, ordered it from Essenza Nobile in Germany – no tax and no shipping, it was cheaper than buying it in the US.
Perfume is a brand new addiction for me, but I love this blog!
I’m wearing Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black today. It’s a sample. I don’t like it. Too sweet and too anonymous. It could be anything.
I’m slowly collecting samples, including the one I have on today. I have Narcisco Rodriguez For Her, and what is supposed to be Hermes Elixir des Merveilles, but I think is a mistake on the labeling. It smells nothing like the descriptions online. I wore it Saturday and it was very masculine, with a lot of smoke and leather, and a heavy, vanilla but not sweet, dry down. It lasted forever. I have no idea what it is, but I really like it.
Tomorrow is Bond No 9 Chinatown, if my sample arrives as scheduled.
Hi and welcome! Glad to have you join us 🙂
Welcome! And now I’m curious about the Elixir des Merveilles… I can’t remember if I tried that one. I def would expect it to be pretty strongly vanillic, but, indeed, I thought it was considered less masculine than the other Merveilles (and maybe the more’s the pity? Dunno, clearly I will have to give it a more serious test.)
I’m very curious about it myself. I ordered a sample vial of Elixir des Merveilles on a card, so when that gets here I’ll be able to compare. If that’s not what I have (and I really think it’s not) then I’d love to know what I actually have.
Thank you for the welcome! You as well, Robin. I’m glad to be here!
Welcome newbiebex! Are you in the U.S.? I have lots of samples to send you!
Thank you! I am in the U.S., yes. Wow, are you sure?
Absolutely! Please email me – click my username to get my email address.
Ugh. My stomach ick continues, along with fever. Iris Poudre is gentle, though.
Feel better Mals.
Hope u feel better soon. Iris Poudre is helpful in most situations i find!
Feel better soon!
As I was in a rush to get to work this afternoon, I did not put much though into my SOTD. Went for a quick grab-and-dab of J. Crew No. 57.
At Sunday dinner with my in-laws last night, the topic of perfume came up. My SIL said that she likes to receive compliments on her perfume. On the other hand, I would feel self-conscious if someone were to comment on my scent. I wear perfume purely for my own enjoyment. If someone else can smell it at normal, non-spousal range, I would think I must be wearing too much.
How about you? Do you want others around you to smell your perfume?
Yes!, i love getting compliments on my perfume, it’s really wonderful, and gives me a buzz. I always consider silage and projection when i buy FB’s, and don’t bother to sample skin scents or some naturals which have little lasting power and silage. I make a few exceptions, like for Apres l’ondee and recently Marni, but generally as i have scent eating skin, i need powerful perfumes.
I feel dissapointed if i ask my hubby what he thinks of my perfume and he can’t smell it!
My perfume today is lovely but i don’t catch wafts of it as i’m out and about, or doing chores, so for me it’s not full bottle worthy.
Ditto- wear it for myself but that does Include others noticing and hopefully in a positive way. Also it’s a lovely way to introduce others to perfume as a real interest if they ask about what you are wearing. Although I do still feel embarrassed at the memory of wearing way too much Knowing to work years about and it being commented on!
It depends on why and how they’re commenting. If they’re standing 8 feet away, or making a face, then I feel self-conscious. If someone hugs me, or asks after I walk by, or puts on a piece of my clothing and asks, then I love it. I also wear perfume for my own enjoyment, and as an accessory to help me feel how I want to feel that day.
You’ve summed up my feelings better than I could have.
Oh, I like perfume compliments in almost all situations–I suppose in certain professional settings it could be really inappropriate, and of course there’s always the non-compliment compliment, where someone remarks on one’s scent to say, “Oh. You’re wearing perfume. That’s…nice.” But assuming the compliment seems to be offered in a genuine and non-workplace-harassment spirit, I think I’d rather be complimented on perfume than any number of other things. I come from a family where people feel entitled to remark on your weight, for instance, which I do not appreciate even if the remark is favorable!
(Should say: this just goes for me! I can totally understand someone preferring small-sillage perfumes that one only wears for herself, it’s just different from how I feel about it–which is well and good! Life is a rich tapestry, etc. 🙂 )
here here!
Absolutely! That’s why I’m curious – these differences are fascinating.
I used to date someone who’d say, “you always smell so good,” whenever we were within hugging distance.
I’d say, “thank you, it is one of my life goals,” and mean it, though it was always taken as a joke.
But, isn’t it? To smell good/interesting/compelling/whatever?
Frivolous, but I’m engaged with it enough to come here all the time 😉
I don’t necessarily wear perfume for compliments, but I enjoy it when someone notices in a positive way. It’s especially gratifying when it’s a professed perfumophobe. It’s nice to change people’s notions of what they think of as “perfume”. Usually their idea is very limited and formed from some negative experience, like the guy who shares an office with them and wears too much Axe body spray. So now they “hate cologne”.
It really depends on how I’m feeling. If I’m uncomfortable, I may feel like any comment about my scent is a judgement. I’ve caught myself apologizing when complimented before. On the other hand, there are those f-it days where I’m wearing a crapload of something weird that I love, and any comment feels like a compliment. All in all, I think I probably mostly enjoy it when someone comments and validates my perfume choice.
SOTD Club de Nuit Intense which is becoming go-to when I’m feeling indecisive. This is one 100ml FB that I can see finishing.
I’ve been kind of obsessed with minis after visiting Osswald NYC last week with fellow NSTers. They have a great backlit wall display of minis which dazzled me. I’m fantasizing about having a display collection so I bought a minis of VC&A First and Vivienne Westwood Boudoir to add to my small collection.
Are you going to do the whole chromatic thing too? Their display is definitely inspiring
That’s something to aspire to. That did make it extra spectacular.
SOTD is Memoir and loving it. While I was at work today, my Luckyscent order arrived today. It’s funny, the day I ordered from Luckyscent, I wasn’t in the mood for another bottle of perfume but had a 15% code, so I bought some Kusmi teas. Those will probably end up being emergency Christmas gifts.
I’m way late here. Wearing a free sample of Narciso EDP today. I was surprised to find that I loved the opening and initial dry down. A soft, lovely, easy scent that’s different from what I usually wear.
I thought it could fill a hole in my perfume wardrobe, but after an hour I could smell it only with my nose buried in my wrist. Now I can’t smell it at all. I wonder if it wore off that quickly or if I stopped being able to smell it. I cannot smell one of the NR for Her versions at all.
Jolie Laide Band a Part, which was one of my swap prizes this go around. I like it quite a lot, quirky angelica and unsweet and maybe the scent of someone’s hair. It’s not terribly strong or lasting, but today I’m a little homebound and will have plenty of time to put something else on.
I have one Bourdon, so I know what I’m wearing Friday (that would be Iris Poudre).
Today I’m wearing Rossy de Palma.
Oh a very nice pick for Friday–and everyone who’s a new owner of the Malle coffret is all set!
Looking carefully at his credits, I think the only two I’ve got even a sample of on hand are a mini of Rosine Roseberry, which I actively dislike (rare for me!) and Feminite de Bois, an SL mini from an NSTer so tremendously generous that I still haven’t found a way to thank her adequately!! So I’ll wear that and think about how I can properly repay her kindness 🙂
(Rather, a sample of Roseberry. I don’t know if Rosine makes minis, but I assume they would be completely adorable, so now I wish they would! Dear perfume gods, are you listening??)
I think a lot of us will be in IP on Friday. Rossy is one of my favorites! You smell great 😀
Super late to the game. I postponed going into work as I decorated the tree this morning. I’m wearing a mix of Jo Malone Birch and Black Pepper and Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
Mondays…My day started with a 3 1/2 hour meeting (no break!) and then it just snowballed from there. Luckily SOTD = SL Iris Silver Mist which ALWAYS makes me sit up straighter with its icy carrotty iris goodness.
I was foiled by this Friday’s Community Project as I only have ONE (!) Pierre Bourdon perfume — the fabulous Frederic Malle Iris Poudre. Despite not having an inventory of my samples and decants, I am 99.6% sure that I don’t have any of his other perfumes. I once may have had an Escada something but I gave that away or sold it at a yard sale. So, I’ve decided to wear a perfume with the word Iris in its name everyday this week!
Just dropping by late to say that I always love seeing other people’s suggestions. I have this weird thing right now where I can’t think of anything to wear, and I’m buying too much, but I still don’t have anything to wear… I know I’m just overbusy and overstimulated and that when the current work rush is over, after the holidays, I’ll relax, it’ll all relax, it’ll all be fine.
But meanwhile.
At least I got a new sample pack from luckyscent AND my olfactif collection today. There might not be anything I already know I WANT to wear… but things to test? Definitely!
