It's National Coffee Day! Go ahead, have another cup. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm still in Fendi Theorema.
Reminder: this coming Friday will be Best Buy Friday: tell us about your most amazing discount or other rare find. (suggested by Oakland Fresca)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: images are from Fendi Resort 2016 collection.
It’s 2.00pm, I’m at work and still radiating Muscs Koublai Khan wondering if it was entirely appropriate office wear…
I fear I may have instigated a nationwide ban on perfume in the UK workplace today – sorry about that everyone.
Respect.
Thanks!
I wore Fumérie Turque to work yesterday, so I totally support your choice!
This made me laugh out loud!
I do this frequently myself. I just can’t help occasionally and billowing big wafts of PdE Musc Tonkin (or a dozen other heavyweights) around the office and then worry how perfume will end up being banned in the office and it’s all my fault!
I really need to get my hands on Musc Tonkin
But how can they protest when you smell so good!
I’m actually quite guilty of doing the same in my office – like today.
Do you, BobH!
I am in the UK and certainly wouldn’t object to that smell wafting around the office! Then again it could be said we aren’t totally representative…
You smell great! I would happily work in an office full of MKK and always go out of my way to seek out and compliment anyone I smell wearing it.
Worth it.
AdP Profumo and Amouage Jubilation 25, to see how they compare. I love them both and they are quite similar, but I love Jub 25 a little more.
Jubilation 25, yum!
I’m in Dia today because I’m in the office, but Jub 25 is so beautiful – probably my favorite Amouage (Gold Woman is a close second).
Those are my favourite 2 as well! Haven’t tried Dia yet, I probably have to.
Dia could be considered a tamer version of Gold – arguably mild enough to be worn at the office. (I also have a decant of Beloved in my perfume drawer at work.)
I bow down in respect to you for having a decant of Beloved in your work desk!!!!
So love Jub25
Inspiration strikes, thank you–J25 for me, and just the very thing it will be! I went scentless yesterday and felt semi-unsettled all day. I don’t want to creep quietly back onto the perfume fields wearing something quiet and polite: I want to storm back smelling gorgeous and unassailable! I can’t think of anything better than Jubilation! Oh, and the name is perfect for today too: “I’m in Jubilation.” Excellent!
I think this is one of the greatest. You smell amazing!
I’m at the gym right now and I wearing Lancome Hypnose….and smell so amazing… Even with the almost 95 degrees here on florida…hummmm
Have a great workout!
Hehehe thanks…have a nice day
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here…Happy National Coffee Day! 🙂
Wearing Chillum by AbdesSalaam Attar Profumo. Yep – with REAL Mysore Sandalwood…so satisfying
Welcome back! And I need to try that one…
I love real sandalwood! I think the only fragrance that I have that actually has real mysore sandalwood in it is my old bottles of AG Heure Exquise…. Does anyone know what is the source of the sandalwood in Bois des Iles?
I’d love to know that too. Love BdI!
Shalimar Ode à la Vanille again, like a broken record, to cheer me up for the long (and potentially stressful) work day ahead.
Now, if you excuse-me, I’ll be getting another espresso. 🙂
I am in fact drinking coffee this very moment (it’s afternoon here, so it’s my second cup). I’m wearing Arquiste Flor y Canto: not quite enough tuberose for me, but it’s lovely nevertheless. One of my colleagues liked it so much that I’ve given her my decant. Hope to be hired by the Arquiste marketing department any moment now 🙂
I suspect that the Arquiste marketing department consists entirely of Carlos Huber’s smile. Who could resist??
You are probably right and indeed, at least I cannot resist. I follow him on Instagram and heart more-or-less every single picture. Quite pathetic, really.
This doesn’t reduce my eagerness of being hired, of course 🙂
Heh.
Oh – and I really did like Flor y Canto, but I’m kind of already stocked up on tubey fragrances… maybe for the next twenty years or so.
I’m in a very similar situation. But is smells lovely, no doubt about that. What’s your favourite tuberose?
Hmm. Well, probably my fave is Carnal Flower, but I also love Flowerhead and the rereleased Le Galion Tubereuse, which I just have decants of. Then there are all those old-school tubey/WF bombs like Tatiana and Margaretha Ley, love those too and it will take me forever to use them up.
Isn’t he charming? I’m pretty sure I would buy a full bottle of The Architects Club if he asked me personally, which is saying something since I found it thin and disappointing.
Actually, maybe I should give my sample another try before I condemn it to the back of the closet. I often eat my words when I re-test something, and I mostly didn’t like it because it wasn’t what I had envisioned.
I was also disappointed with that one, especially as I loved the concept and the name. But Nanban turned out to be what I wanted from The Architects Club, so in the end, I’m content.
Whoa. I was unaware. Just googled. Thank you for this important point of information!!
Ditto – similarly thankful!
Agreed that it is lovely, but just not quite enough ooomph. Glad your colleague likes it and wears it.
I love to hook up non-perfumistas with niche scents 🙂
SOTD is Shaal Nur (Etro). 🙂
Yum, I could do a week in Shaal Nur too!
I love Shaal Nur – there is nothing else quite like it. I get tons of smokey vetiver roses….
Robin, I love that you’re still in Theorema. I wore it for 3 days straight then went back into hoarding mode because I only have a small portion of a bottle left!
SOTD: (1980s/90s) Jolie Madame
You smell great, of course. And very refined.
Balmain Jolie Madame is in my top 5 of all time. But please don’t ask me to list my top 5 because I would have a meltdown.
I feel you on that ever-shifting Top Five.
But really, vinty JM is Da Bomb. I should wear it more often.
Haha I hear that!
I am extremely lucky to have 2 bottles. And boy, Theorema ages well.
Dear all Theorema lovers: It still exists on beautyencounter (no affiliation) and it isn’t egregiously expensive in perfume-people terms.
ENABLER!
So…..I did it. I bought one. I was getting perilously low on my bottle so now I’ll have a full one and can wear my current more frequently (instead of hoarding it and hoping it doesn’t evaporate).
Heh. I guess I finally get my pin.
I did it too…same reason except I already had a back up full one. But you can never have too much Theorema and that beautiful slanted bottle.
You smell terrific–I know because this is what I had on yesterday! Such a treat.
Just finished my second cup of coffee 🙂 Cold front moving in this afternoon, wearing my beloved Shalimar today.
I think we’re expecting things to cool off tomorrow.
I am very sorry to see our long hot gorgeous summer finally go away….
Same!!! and a few more -> !!!!
I’m with you. it is hard to enjoy the fall because the winters are so so long and brutal.
Shalimar is so beautiful. Its like you are saying “come on cooler weather, I’m ready for you!”
SOTD = Rose Chypree. Couldn’t help myself and augmented it with one spritz over my head of Mitsouko before I went out the door. I had to fortify myself for the flu shot I got on my way to work.
Our hospital system is requiring everyone to get one this year, or get tattoo’d with “I refused to participate in herd immunity” on their forehead – well, not really, but anyone who refuses to get a flu shot now has to wear a mask anytime and all the time they are at the hospital. Drastic measures, but our hospital, in spite of its standing and funding, has problems with incidental infections, and it seems like someone is finally getting serious about it…which is ok by me.
My grandfather died of tick fever before they knew how to treat it, and everyone in my family has gotten every vaccine that comes down the pike every since they invented the things.
But I digress. The point is, the nurse who gave me my flu shot said, “Oh, you smell fabulous! What IS that?” So I told her. She wrote down both names. 🙂
Wow, those are strict measures, but it’s nice to know they are taking it seriously. I think that would be hilarious to have that tattooed on the forehead though.
You smell great!
We have those same measures at our hospital too. I remember years back there was a law suit when the hospital was forcing employees to get the shot until one nurse got a lawyer – now just the mask and a signed waiver if you don’t want to protect yourself
Yes, people can opt out, but they have to go sign pieces of paper saying, “I understand I am refusing to participate in herd immunity, and I promise I will wear those stupid masks all the time.” We all get a little sticker on our ID badges when we get the shot, and if you don’t have the sticker, you have to have a mask on.
I got there early and figured I would be first in line, and there were already 60 people line up…
I bet that’s a great combo, URC and Mitsouko. (Mitsy is mostly a Mean Girl on me, but I wonder if layering would take some of her acid glare off. Hmm.)
Three cheers for herd immunity. And thanks for reminding me, can’t do it this week but will put it on calendar for next! (Nota bargain hunters, I just saw that it’s $15 at Costco! Not much in the perfume selection there this week tho.)
I don’t get the flu shot anymore – when they invent the shot that removes my bi-annual/annual bronchitis attack that lasts for 2-4 months, then I’ll be first in line.
Have you tried allergy meds? I got pretty irked when someone tried to prescribe them to me last year for sinus infections + bronchitis, as it was very clear I did have an infection not just allergies–but, it turned out reducing the inflammation has made me way, way less susceptible to the other stuff. (And, I just feel better overall, had not even realized that I was feeling minorly tired/headachey all the time–just thought that was how humans feel!) Worth a shot maybe!
That is so true. I am very prone to sinus infections but find that I don’t get them if my allergies aren’t present.
I feel like my allergist just about saved my life! I went in for a visit, and she made me do a breathing thing, and my lung capacity was about 22%, after she had asked me how I was doing and I said, “Oh, you know, not bad for this time of year….! ” She just looked at me and said, “You are allergic to everything. Please let me treat you. Take the allergy pills, do the inhaler, and the nasa cort just the way I tell you, whether you think you need it or not, for 6 weeks, and then tell me how you feel.” Improved my quality of life by an order of magnitude.
Yes, thank you, I do take sinus/allergy meds and that helps. But bronchitis will take me and many of my work colleagues out for weeks every year. Flu is hit or miss even with a local population that does/doesn’t get the shot. I pray for a cure, lol!
Happens to me as well, AnnS, even with flu shot. Pneumonia 2x last winter. Trying to get ahead of it this year with Nasalcort and Mucinex, but I can no longer use my inhalers or dextromethorphan (sp?) – interactions -and am very anxious about this winter. Everyone at work is always ill.
SoTD is Amoureuse – forgot this am, and that’s what was in my purse.
Yeah – and pneumonia kills people too, right? I have to watch meds too b/c I’m sensitive to having my heart race/irregular beating, etc.
We are both in Amoureuse!
Oh gosh how dreadful for you both!! I’ll join the intercessions for a cure! (Will add it to my constant prayers for a national sick leave policy, so that sick people can stay home rather than coming in to spread germs!)
Wearing the awesome scent of Costume National 21 though perhaps I should have checked the forecast–it looks like it might get a bit warmer than my preferred temperature range for it
I have a sample of that, that has seemed pretty awesome the one time I put it on. You inspire me to give it a good examination. Do you have a FB of it?
I have a used bottle I got off ebay so not a full bottle but quite a bit (years and years worth considering the size of my collection and that I’m a light sprayer with scent glue skin)
I like that one 🙂
On my second cup of… tea.
I’m really liking those two Fendi jackets, especially the blue one.
I did go out and buy perfume yesterday. After going back and forth for a while I decided to get Mitsouko. L’heure Bleue will have to wait until after the new year.
Yay. Milestone. 🙂
Definitely. I’d gone through three decants of it before now.
Oh, that’s SUCH a reasonable purchase–my mental rule (which I break constantly) is to finish one decant before a bottle. Three means you’ll def, def use a FB!
And the bottle looks so regal – it puts most of the other bottles to shame… 🙂
It really does. I like how different the topper looks.
Congrats Jenkr! Is this the edp or the extrait?
It’s the edp. I’m thinking this will be my wedding day scent 🙂
Lovely & gorgeous!
Are you interested in a swap for L’Heure Bleu edp? I see you are wanting some and I have lots…..
I miss coffee! Decaf is not the same. After I give birth in Jan I would like a strong cup of Joe!
I got a sample of Black Opium that I am testing today. I believe it may have some coffee in it.
I miss coffee too. But have found some nice bold teas I like nearly as well.
Oh Yay! I finally get to say scent twin!
I dragged my hand away from the Azemour decant this morning and went with Cuir Pleine Fleur instead – I need something comforting today (rough seas ahead at work).
Oof good luck at work. Glad you have that Cuir Pleine Fleur to steady you, it’s one I’m hoping to try one of these days…
Thanks, C.H.! I managed to get through the day without getting fired or murdering anyone, and I’m pretty sure the CPF helped. 🙂 I hope you do get to try it sometime soon – it is a very light, smooth violet-suede kind of leather. I do wish it lasted a little bit longer, but it’s not as if it’s gone in a flash – it lingers for maybe 4 hours on me before it fades to nearly unnoticeable.
Just a dab of TF Amber Absolute, chiropractic visit later. I’m dreaming of fall – 80 and rainy here.
I really wanted to wear Rose Café today – clearly should have done given all things coffee. However went for Seville a l’Aube instead and it seems perfect for sunny autumn. One decaff and one real coffee so far today…
Nice, what a good day for Seville!
I decided on Dame Perfumery’s Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli today, trying to avoid all things vanilla. It is amazing, but for a person who dislikes vanilla scents as much as I do, how many of my fragrances have vanilla at least in the base. it’s because I do so much of the blind buying of minis.
I used to greatly dislike vanilla too, but I’ve been converted. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan, but in the right application it can be really nice. There are a LOT of perfume bases with vanilla in them.
I hadn’t heard of that perfume before and looked it up. It sounds really nice.
Just starting my third and absolute last cup of coffee of the day.
Woke up with that remains of Adam Levine for Her from my SOTE, which is lingering with a light creamy spice. Thought it would be fitting to start today with Bvlgaria Omnia. Haven’t worn this for a while and it smells wonderful!
I keep hearing nice things about the Adam Levine, I should give that a shot.
Especially since it seems to be at Winners and the like for ca. $20.
Seriously!!
Seriously! Found it at TJ Maxx for $7!! Keep looking – it’s out there!
I do too. Unfortunately I never see it at the discount places (in person).
I’m in Eau de Merveilles today. I’m back home after a trip to CT, and I was eager to spray something on rather than dabbing out of the sample vials I travel with. As for it being National Coffee Day, that might be just to excuse I need to go buy myself a cup!
Two cups of half-caff today. Delicious. This is Day 5 of what is projected to be a 10-day-long rainy spell, so things are a bit soggy around here.
I am collecting items, including several perfumes, to sell on ebay. Have never sold anything there before, and am a little apprehensive about it although I buy on teh ‘bay allll the time. Eep.
SOTD is vintage Emeraude pdt. This was SO good, before Coty’s bottom-line-tyranny took over…
That is a lot of rain. We are in deficit right now – but are forecast for about 5. I don’t want it to rain, but we need it.
Email me if you have any questions about selling on ebay. I started doing that about 3 years ago, off an on. I may have some tips for ya!
Ooh, I may do that. THanks!
Will definitely be offloading some 1980s Chypre, a spare bottle of Shalimar Light, and possibly my backup backup of L’Arte. 😉
Someone will score big with those!
Hi NSTers! I was traveling all last week and didn’t poll. I’m wearing the last of a decant of Champagne de Bois which smells like it’s gone a wee bit off.
Yikes! I’ve got a small bottle of CdB in my collection – maybe I need to use it up faster.
This was not one of the SSS purse sprays but an unofficial decant — so far I have not had one of her bottles go off, but yeah, maybe reach for it more often!
I can’t imagine CdB going off! So much woods, etc. You’ll just have to get a fresh bottle, lol!!
I think I have more somewhere! I suspect that almost-empty containers go off faster because there’s more air in the bottle.
That happens to me with my samples too. Someone needs to create a teeny-tiny little vacuum pump like the ones we use to keep our wine fresh!
Heh. I am trying to imagine this device.
😉
I have been thinking that I should launch a small, stylish perfume fridge for people like us.
Ahh, coffee. Over the weekend I had the best espresso I’ve had in a long time, but unfortunately it was so strong I had trouble sleeping on Sunday night. Back to some delicious bodega coffee today.
Wearing Le Labo Vanille 44, because it just blooms so wonderfully in humid weather. And today is nothing if not humid.
Ooh both of these things do sound very nice! Maybe I’ll have to get my Vanille 44 out sooner–had been saving it for cold weather but we sure are having muggy weather too, perhaps I should give it a shot! (Anyway I’m sick of waiting for cold weather 🙂 )
Hello, SOTD is Lipstick Rose, i’ve got a 10ml travel spray, will definitely get a full bottle someday, & iris poudre!
My lovely husband got me some Amouage samples (sprayed on card)
after work yesterday from Selfridges in London. Epic Woman and Journey Woman. This morning my tea seemed to smell and taste amazing, finally realised it was my glasses steaming up, and giving off divine scent of Epic!- my glasses had been on the sample all night and picked up the smell, such torture not being able to afford a bottle! Can anyone out there compare Journey and Epic?
I am not familiar with Journey but adore Epic. Luckily its so powerful that a small decant goes a long way.
Thanks bastet, unfortunately the only decant site in the UK doesn’t have Epic, i will spray it on next time i’m in London,
and if i fall head over heels, will have to knock Jub 25 off the top of my christmas list!
scentsamplesuk does have Journey tho, so will get a small decant of that next month, i’ll keep fingers crossed they’ll get Epic soon!
Goodness, those two really are different fragrances. I bought a bottle of Journey, which I love. It’s mostly mimosa on me with the tea note in the background and is a bit sweet with a touch of honey.
I also have an Amouage sample of Epic and it’s all spices with incense and oud. The floral notes are very subdued on me, but maybe will come out more on other skin. It’s all yummy spices to me.
Thanks jenkr, thats good to know, i love mimosa! i’ve heard its quite light for an Amouage- do you need to spray a lot to smell it?, i have perfume eating skin..
I think Journey is one of their stronger scents, but it may just be my skin. I consider Reflection and Ciel the weaker ones out of the Amouage line.
Thank’s, thats encouraging- will definitely order a small decant.
What a delicious smelling pair of glasses you have!
Yes, it was a wonderful start to the day!
Today is my 26th wedding anniversary, and my husband and I are going out to dinner tonight. I’m wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie today, and will put a little bit more on tonight. Whenever I ask him to pick out a scent for me, he usually picks out this one — not all the time, but most of the time.
Happy Anniversary! And I think it’s so nice your husband picks scents when you ask.
Happy Anniversary and you smell fantastic!
How exciting! Happy anniversary! And obviously you smell simply lovely
Happy Anniversary!, how sweet of you’re hubby, and luckily it sounds as if he has exceptional taste! Hope you have a wonderful evening.
Happy Anniversary! I hope tonight’s dinner will be just the start of wonderful memory-making for the next 26 years.
Congratulations, and have a wonderful evening.
Happy Anniversary!
Thanks ! I’m excited about dinner tonight, we are going to a restaurant I’ve never tried before.
Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations! And you smell beautiful, of course.
Oh, and he has nice taste in perfume to boot — congrats!
I had planned to wear Amber Absolute today but my hand just went for Une Fleur de Cassie, so I’m in mimosa for a second time this week after Amarige Mimosa yesterday.
Ooh lovely, i love Une Fleur de Cassie!
This is a great scent. In fact, I should wear it tomorrow.
I am at work and have a cold so I don’t smell anything. I am wearing vintage Balenciaga Prélude. I am hoping I didn’t apply too much.
Feel better!
Trying TF Noir Pour Femme. A couple of years ago, this would have been so not me, but I’m liking it so far. Right now it’s incensey and vanillic.
Oh that sounds nice! The previous Noirs have not suited me but sounds like I should give this one a shot. Is there much tobacco in it?
I thought it was more chocolaty than tobacco-y, but I like tobacco notes, so I may not be the most reliable source for tobacco intensity. (For the record, I was surprised, but I liked the scent and found it pretty fun and appealingly sweet.)
It is fun & sweet–just looked at the notes, and while it smells a bit of tobacco, there’s none listed. I know I didn’t care for Tobacco Vanille.
Will note it seems pretty potent–don’t think I’d ever apply more than a discreet spritz.
Oh nice, thank you both for this input! I will have to give it a shot.
I’ve only smelled this from a magazine insert – I wish I could test all the Noirs side by side.
SOTD is Andy Tauer’s Eau D’Epices. I don’t think it’s in production any longer but I love it. However, I should have known better than to wear any Tauerade to the office. My boss hates perfume and gags and/or turns up his nose, and or tries to elude me in every way he can. I have been watching what I spritz for work for quite a while now so as to not offend him (and fellow co-workers), but this morning I just picked up a Tauer and sprayed only a couple of small spritzes but it is a Tauer so even one small spritz can be readily detected. I’m sure it will be just as strong at the end of the day.
I liked Eau d’Epices too.
I like Tauer perfumes, but I never had a chance to smell Eau d”Epices. Are there any currently in his offerings that are similar? I like spicy…
Orange Star smells a lot like E’dE to me, but has an orange and orange-blossom side to it. OS doesn’t work for me because the orange blossom goes soapy on me (as it typically does).
Lolita Lempicka Fleur Défendue/Forbidden Flower. I have a mini of this that Ive never worn properly because I prefer to spray, so I put some in a decant sprayer. Omg this is so nice! Im pretty sure it’s now discontinued, but although it’s classified as fruity floral gourmand- which by that alone I’d usually avoid- it’s all powdery anice, almond and cherry, with a bit of greenness to balance it.
I used up a mini of Si Lolita pretty fast, when I put it in a decant spray bottle. (Still haven’t replaced it, though, and probably won’t.)
I’ve been off work this past week, last day before going back tomorrow. I’m enjoying my morning coffee (my #1 moment of the day!) along with a fresh spritz of Bottega Veneta. Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh…
You smell wonderful – I love Bottega Veneta. I find it so reliable, but really beautiful too. It has become one of my favorite fragrances.
Has anyone tried the oil form? Curious about that one….
Yes – it was my unnecessary fragrance splurge over the summer. I let myself have it, even though I certainly didn’t need it. So, it does smell exactly like BV, but not as intense. Conversely, it lasts for a very long time on the skin. It stands on it’s own – you won’t have to apply any fragrance after you use it unless you want to clear the room. The formula is not really moisturizing as such if you have really dry skin like I do, but it has a lovely dbo texture that gives a nice light sheen to the skin. The formula was perfect for summer use. It spreads really well. Anyway…. The bottle is gorgeous as solid glass just like the fragrance, and just has an open screw top, so it’s not very user friendly apres bath. I decanted some into a regular 1 oz plastic nozzle bottle so I can use it without worry. I also lust after the body cream, but it’s too costly. Hope this helps!
This is exactly the information I needed, and was sadly not a deterrent.
Glad I could help. It is a worthwhile splurge.
Celebrating my favorite beverage’s special day with Starbucks’ Cafe Verona (we drank a whole pot this morning) and L’Or de Torrente edp – rose, coffee, and weathered cedar wood – a perfect combo to warm up a cold, wet, and rainy day!
Sounds lovely!
In addition to perfume, coffee is a daily pleasure for me. I drink half a cup at home (Peet’s Major Dickenson), and then small doses throughout the morning at work. I also have about a quarter cup mid-afternoon with something sweet. Amazing what a creature of habit I can be.
I’m still on the look out for that perfect coffee scented perfume 😉
SOTD for me is Ambre Russe.
You smell great.
Habits like that can be so comforting. Everything else seems so manageable when you at least have that. My morning tea is becoming that for me.
Hope you’re well Floragal!
Hi ihadanidea! Doing well and hope to see you and the other NYC ‘fume gals again soon. 😉
I recently purchased a large tube of Bliss Bergamot and Vanilla body lotion at Marshalls. I had never tried this before and wore it today because I was too sleepy to choose a fragrance this morning. It smells very much like Shalimar to my nose and would probably layer beautifully with many vanilla centric perfumes.
I think that lotion smells like Shalimar too! I love it
I have the lotion and shower gel. It is great to layer under any vanillic scent. I also think it’s a bit less sweet than many others currently on the market. Probably aimed at a younger crowd.
There’s a sale on HauteLook on these Bliss products.. tempting.
I’m in De Profundis from a sample sent to me by a very generous NSTer… what a wild ride!
I had one big mug of instant Trader Joe’s coffee with milk in the morning to kick start the day. The rest of the day I don’t normally unless I am truly suffering from fatigue. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more sensitive to caffiene….. But I do love a gorgeous hot cup of black coffee.
SOTD DelRae Amoureuse edp. I’m celebrating the last warm day we’ll have for about 7 months. Cheers!
And Amoureuse is a great scent to celebrate warm weather!
Yes!
Amoureuse is so terrific.
I used to think of it as a spring fragrance b/c of the lily, but now I think of it more as a warm autumn fragrance b/c of those spices. I enjoying it very much today.
Started the day with some dabber rose samples – Rose di Siwa on one arm and Rozy on the other (believe it’s the EDP).
The Rozy started out kind of meh, and now that I’m putting my nose to my wrist, hours later, suddenly WHOOOOSH this is pretty. I wasn’t at all expecting that after feeling so unimpressed by the opening. Reminds me of L’arte di Gucci quite a lot. Did anyone else get that impression?
*huff huff huff*
I can smell you from here, lol! I need to bust out my L’arte!
The L’arte can never come out enough 🙂
I have a decant of Rose di Siwa. I get pink rose petals and peony with a touch of violet and vetiver. It is very feminine and pretty.
I am not familiar with Rozy. I heard that it has a cumin note? Not a fan of cumin.
I personally don’t get cumin from it, but maybe it would be different for you. It’s not listed as one of the notes on Fragrantica but who knows…
I thought that I read it had cumin from a commenter recently but I could easily be wrong. I didn’t check the notes.
Rose di Siwa is almost perfect, for a light summery rose-peony. (Almost, because it’s $$$$.) So pretty.
It is definitely very pretty, but thankfully a little dab will do me. I’m grateful not to have fallen in love considering that price tag.
I agree that it is too expensive.
Another great and must less expensive rose-peony is the Parfums de Nicolai Rose Pivoine. It really holds up and keeps a nice base.
I’ll look into it. Still, at the moment, I’m loving my cheapie rose-peony-bergamot oil from Urban Outfitters for when I’m in that mood. 20-some bucks is a price I can love.
I really need to try that PdN, since I’m pretty sure a bottle of the MDCI is NOT in the budget.
How fitting! I don’t normally drink coffee but had one this morning. Just finished off my decant of Carthusia Mediterraneo. Such a refreshing lemon. Our warmer than usual weather continues, but that is OK with me as summer citrusy fragrances are among my favorites. Good thing I live in San Diego!
After thinking about Cuir de Lancôme for a bit I am wearing it today.
I wore my decant of Lipstick Rose today because I haven’t worn it in quite a while. I just don’t know what perfume to wear lately. it’s cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon.
Original Shiseido FdB. Everyone’s been talking about it so much this week & it fits Friday’s bargain theme…(since I found a 2/3rds 50 ml bottle thrifted for $8)
Don’t think I’ve worn it since last fall, so I gave myself a thorough enough spritzing to really get the cedar and cuminy fuzzy aspects. Too little, and it’s just transparent too much and it gets…sweet?
When it wears “right,” I almost regret wearing it, because I won’t be able to replace it.
I’m so jealous! I have a musk blocking issue with FdB, so I’ve never been able to smell it’s full beauty. You must smell great!
Oh, thanks for this tip–I’ve got a sample I still haven’t tried, and I’m glad to know that when I do, I should go ahead and apply it liberally for full effect. I know that (barring a similar thriftstore find) I’ll never get to have a bottle but just for historical interest, I’d like to know what it really smelled like!
Put it on! Early fall is exactly the season for it.
Heh, twist my arm 🙂
Oooooh the jealousy. Great find! 🙂
I found it early enough in my perfume hunting that I didn’t know what (or more precisely how rare) it was. I just thought it smelled nice and had a really cool bottle. And I knew that cool bottles were easier to sell online. (Which is what happened to the duck/swan bottle of DK Signature I found around then).
I’m wearing Marni Rose today. It seems to be a good fallback when I’m not craving anything in particular.
I decided that I needed some Le Labo Vanille 44 today, so that is what I’m wearing. Love the wood notes and the vanilla. I get some light spice, too.
Ih Al-Rehab Choco Musk today. For a something that is $0.5 for a ml, this is really nice. Cocoa note is pretty strong and dry/not-sweet, has nice staying power(at least 6 hours). It is very linear, but for such a price you can hardly expect a masterpiece.
YSL Cinema….I’m very influenced by what’s going on in nature and being Spring I am surrounded by lots of mimosa in glorious yellow flower….several on my street. My memory of Cinema (which I haven’t worn for a year or more) is the mimosa burst. Also the recent reviews of Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamon ( which I haven’t tried) reignited my interest in this note.
The magnolias are doing a whirl so that will inspire me for tomorrow.
I am so happy that mimosa fragrances are a trend. It is such a wonderful note, especially to be used prominently. I think Cinema is a lovely scent! I only got to smell the JM M&C on a mag insert – very nice for what I could get. It almost seemed like a unisex fragrance b/c of the cardamom. It would layer well for sure.
I love mimosa too but the real life version gives me terrible hay fever so perfume is the safe option.
Finally getting a chance to report: in a lucky bit of scheduling for me, I got to stop by Ari’s new store, Arielle Shoshana, on its opening day! So exciting–it’s really gorgeous you guys, and of course the selection is fantastic. I left smelling AMAZING: am newly in love with Neela’s Bombay Bling. Also on offer Smell Bent, MFK, L’Artisan including the new one, CB I Hate Perfume, ELDO, among others! (And, for those not currently in driving distance–you can also order these from the Arielle Shoshana website.) Best of all, I got to meet Ari as well as Coolcookstyle, who was visiting to help open the store! As you can imagine: perfume shopping was a zillion times more fun with purveyors as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as those two!
At risk of Captain Obvious-ing this: if you get a chance to go, do, you’ll love it 🙂
Wow – great news! I wish I could get there. It’s been years since I visited a very well stocked fragrance store. Best wishes for her!
What fun, thanks for the report!
I got the chance to stop by on Sunday and it’s wonderful! I second everything you said!
Next time I go visit my SIL in Chantilly, I’m definitely making a side trip to Arielle Shoshana’s! I’m so thrilled it’s up and running.
I had no idea it was national coffee day. Coincidentally, I did treat myself to a second cup at the mall this afternoon. I drink decaf though. Not really sure if that counts.
SOTD is Chinatown on one wrist and Modern Muse le Rouge on the other, due to aforementioned trip to mall. Neither is my style, but I’m enjoying wearing both. I’m very surprised by how much I like le Rouge because I didn’t care for the original.
I’m very excited because I’ve convinced Mr. Lucy to take me to the Chicago Botanical Garden tonight. The had a Corpse Flower bloom today. This was a huge surprise because they had one at the end of August that never opened up and thought it could be years before it ever happened again. I can’t wait to come back tomorrow and tell you all how awful it was! 🙂
Oh, yes, do fill us in with all the lurid, stinky details! “Any smell is an interesting smell!”
Yes, I got an email this a.m. from the CBG and read the story in today’s Trib. How funny that the one that was supposed to bloom (with tons of publicity) was a big bust and then all of a sudden this one opened up and they scrambled to get the news out. It sounds like it really stinks, especially at night, so I will take a pass. Can’t wait to hear your reaction!
Speaking of less than fragrant aromas, you were so right about Mackinac! Yes, fudge + horse manure (+ perhaps a fresh, aquatic topnote) would = a scent bottled as “Mackinaw.” 🙂 We enjoyed our day on the Island but enjoyed camping in the U.P. and eating lots of Yooper food (especially pasties and whitefish) even more. And, yes, we did bring home some fudge, being tourists after all!
Fudge – I got some cherry chocolate fudge up there once that was the best. Perfectly balanced fruity, chocolately, not too sweet, totally smooth…went back and didn’t find it anywhere.
La la! I tell myself fudge on my imagination is better than fudge on my hips…
I’ve had that fudge before. And while I always partake when I’m there, I’m not a fudge person overall. The tartness of the cherries kept me from feeling that each bite was giving me a cavity. I wonder if it’s only available during cherry season/festival time?
I had a Mackinac Island Fudge beer the last time I was there. It was produced by Arbor Brewing Company but (at the time) only available on the island. It was amazing, kind of similar to a Guinness but with chocolate aroma and more complexity. It appealed to all of my perfumista senses.
Yes, it was funny – all the employees were talking about how they were scared to announce the bloom because they felt bad about disappointing everyone before. I was so excited to see “Spike” (the first one) that even after they announced he wasn’t going to open I went anyway. I really thought it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’ll be posting about “Alice” in today’s SOTD thread.
I’m so glad you had fun on your trip! You’ve got me jonesing for a pasty. I haven’t had one in a really long time… Although there is one company in Chicago that I know of that makes great ones. I forgot to add lilac to the scent of Mackinac. Even though their season is short lived it seems that most shops have capitalized on it with soaps, lotions, and candles. Our “Mackinac” will be horse manure, fudge, fresh aquatic scent, and lilacs. Or we could call it mess in a bottle. It sounds kind of awful.
I had no idea what I was in the mood for this morning so I grabbed one of my un-tested samples and smeared away. Apparently I’m wearing Arabian Oud Shah Silver, which doesn’t seem to exist on their website or anyplace except TPC. I’m enjoying it but not really lusting for a bottle. Actually, I’m trying to figure out what the heck it reminds me of. It’s starting to drive me nuts, it smells like…something…grrrr.
I’m a bit bored today. My husband is studying some work stuff and I’m trying to play quietly downstairs, but everything I want to do is upstairs and requires music or audiobook in the background. I finished all my outside chores this morning and I’ve done all the kitchen stuff I was putting off. If I go upstairs he will start reading to me about our state’s water plan and I had to listen to several hours of that last night, “Redundant paragraph about what this document is about, blah, blah, blah huge number acre-feet of water, blah, blah huge number billion dollars, D.C. al fine.”
HA HA “Da capo al fine”!
If you had to listen to several hours about a state water plan last night, I think you deserve dinner out tonight!
No dinner out tonight, but this year we ARE going out for our anniversary. We have postponed most, if not all, of our anniversaries out and it ain’t happening this time.
In his defense, I was rolling meatballs so I was a captive audience. Why on earth do I volunteer to make the blasted things several times a year? I prefer them tiny, about the size of a grape, so it takes for-freakin’-ever. To make matters worse, meat coated hands make it impossible to drink wine while rolling them.
Nothing is impossible with a straw!
OMG! Over 200 comments already!
SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube
It was humid this morning when I took out the garbage but Seville seemed to fit anyway. This was my gateway to orange blossom but that train got derailed by Arabian Oud Ghroob and I still twitch when I see orange blossom as a note.
