Imaginary Authors An Air of Despair ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 17 July 2015 15 Comments

Imaginary Authors An Air of Despair

Indie brand Imaginary Authors has launched An Air of Despair, a new limited edition fragrance for Summer 2015. Like the others in the line, it was inspired by an imaginary book by an imaginary author.

When Vivian Gwyn's parents mysteriously disappear one month before her eighteenth birthday it foils an elaborate plan she had to kill them herself. In her search for clues as to their whereabouts she finds an elegant mink coat and a safe full of valuables in her mother's cedar closet. Keeping the coat but selling everything else, she embarks on a glamorous adventure that takes her from the small Tennessee town where she grew up to luxurious penthouses in Manhattan, runways in Milan, and finally the castle in Switzerland from which she learns she is a descendant. No expense is spared in Viv's valiant quest to shake the sadness that plagued her upbringing and she quickly learns it's not riches that bring happiness but happiness that brings riches.

The notes include cedar, saffron, musk and sadness.

Imaginary Authors An Air of Despair is available in 30 ml Eau de Parfum ($55).

I was thinking it’s an accord made with pear, pink pepper and oud.

Josh Meyer is such a class act. Unfortunately, this one isn’t available for samples, unlike all his others. I asked him if I can get a sample if I ordered others and he sent me back an email almost instantaneously:

    “Kelly!

Amazing! Thank you for your email. Thank you for all the kind words!!

I’m not doing samples of this one for the website or general population, but yes! If you place an order for a couple samples, i’ll pop an unlabeled sample (we didn’t even have sample stickers printed!) into your package free of charge.

Thanks again, sooooo grateful for you 🙂
    josh”

It was such a sweet email, I had to post it.

Maybe Twisted Lily will have samples for the “general population”.

Kelly, I agree that Josh Meyers is a class act. Let us know how you like the sample of sadness in a perfume bottle.

Eek, I will! But yes, iris is definitely lovely sadness in a bottle.

Received it today! It is LOVELY! While I am waiting on confirmation from Josh Meyer, I definitely detect iris as a major note. If Iris Silver Mist is Betty Draper, An Air of Despair is a repentant and hung over Don Draper.

      A must try.

I might buy this just for the name alone.

The name made me think, how existential, but the blurb set me straight 😀

Many of the titles of Barbara Pym’s novels would be great as perfume names: No Fond Return of Love, Excellent Women, An Academic Question, An Unsuitable Attachment

I would buy ‘an unsuitable attachment’, just for the name!

Good idea for a poll though – book names that would work for a perfume.

Way too many ‘Great Expectations’ for me :p
