Happy Egg Day! And Happy Cheese Day Eve. It's also National Candy Month, so do plan your meals accordingly. And do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today?
I'm wearing Miller Harris Jasmin Vert.
Reminder: this Friday, 5 June, we're doing British niche....wear something from Ormonde Jayne, Penhaligon's, Miller Harris, Floris, or any other British niche brand.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I have forgotten how wonderful Feminite du Bois is and just might wear it again today. But vintage Jicky is calling my name.
Who won?
Vintage Jicky won out. I just love the skank in the vintage version.
Me too!
Feminite du Bois is one of my happy scents: it’s gorgeous, but also comforting and so easy to wear (at least for me). And while I haven’t tried vintage Jicky, I wore the current extrait version once and it still haunts me.
Same for me in regards to Feminite du Bois. My first niche scent, and one of my happiest and the most “me.”
Epice Marine today, and a liberal dusting. I could buy a whole vat of this stuff!
I got some last month. It’s just about the only oceanic scent I can stand, because it doesn’t seem like a copy of all those done-to-death men’s scents.
I almost wore this today, but opted out at the last minute.
You inspired me to dig out my sample. I loved it and have to try it in hot weather.
En Passant, six sprays.
Yes. Sigh. Six spray Passant it should be called…
This is, indeed, the correct amount.
Um, six? Why? Is it light? Fleeting?
Both, although it’s not quite as bad as some others. It lasts actually reasonably well on me, it’s just close to the skin after a while.
Thanks.
Serge Noire. Cinnamon incense, wood smoke, a bit of leather. I hated it the first time I tried it but now (I think it was reformulated) I love it so much.
I like it from a dab sample. Can’t imagine wearing copious amounts of it, it’s so odd.
It’s VERY odd. It thinks it’s about six different Lutenses all at the same time: Rousse, Feminité du Bois, Un Bois Sepia…. I sure do like it, though. Just not too often.
That sounds wonderful.
Iris Poudre today….I should have purchased this a while ago. I love it, my adorable hubby loves it, my coworkers don’t seem to nice it at all. Happy all around…
nice = mind, stupid spellchecker, my coworkers never mention it so it is not a problem… 🙂
Perfect!
Love Iris Poudre.
Candy month?! Wow- that may begin a free for all 😉
Today I needed something beguilingly beautiful, so I went with Tauer’s PHI.
Recent comments have brought it to my attention that it’s been too long since I wore this. Just a gorgeous, soothing, calming, and centering scent.
Thanks to Andy for enriching my life by creating this fragrance 🙂
Yesterday evening was my first full on Taur exploration… Zeta inside one elbow, and PHI inside the other… whooowweee oh what a night!
I can just imagine! One full spritz of PHI takes me through a good 12-18 hours. I haven’t been able to sniff Zeta yet. What’s your take on it? Good, bad, indifferent?
I liked Zeta, but I want to try it again not neck and neck with PHI. PHI was a spice rose roller-coaster that went in and out of tunnels. . . Zeta was contemplating life sitting in a sun-drenched copse of Linden trees drinking lemon tea… Needless to say all the shouting and the clanging from the roller coaster drowned out Zeta for most of it.
Oh, you’re creating a Zeta lemming 😀
I really like ZETA. Your description is spot on (except I’ve never smelled linden blossom ). It is a quiet scent with such a calming honey drydown. He’s not making it anymore so may be hard to find.
Un Coeur en Mai. So lovely.
Yes it is 🙂
MDCI for anyone who wants to know…
When I was new to perfume and my wife was even newer to it, I handed her a vial of Bandit. She managed to get the top off, something we both struggled with in those days. Then she turned it sideways to read the label.
We lay on our wooden floor, soaking up the Bandit.
Now I spray from our bottle.
I once spilled a mini of Amarige Mariage (fortunately, not the whole bottle) on wooden floor. My room had that intense sweet fragrance for days.
This is hysterical, I can just about picture you and your wife trying to absorb Bandit.
Funny!
My desk (and I think there are others here with the same) is a wonderful wood-soaked melange of fragrances tested, sprayed and spilled over the years…
🙂
Ooooh dear. Bet you had fun on that floor, though.
On the bright side, it was Bandit and not Secretions Magnifique
That’s how we both fell in love with Bandit! It actually suits a wooden floor quite well, but also us.
That is SUCH a romantic anecdote! Love it!
Food-based days! I like. A lot.
SOTD: What We Do In Paris Is Secret.
Perhaps I will have for my dinner: Cheese Omelette served with Grilled Chicken, Nectarine and Baby Spinach salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette.
Dessert: Salted Caramel Triple Layered Dark Chocolate Cake.
Yummmmm! Can i come over?
Can I come too? (as my mouth waters reading all the delicious things you are preparing) 🙂
I want to hijack your meal AND your scent- love What We Do In Paris!
The more the merrier!
Nothing is better than sharing the love of food 😉
SOTD is PdN Odalisque. It reminds me a lot of Cristalle, so of course I love it!
You smell amazing!
SOTD Cerruti 1881: a sunny scent for a sunny day. Takes me back to the ’80s
That *is* good for sun.
Inspired by yesterday’s Nicolai article and comments, I pulled out my bottle of Eau d’Ete this morning and sprayed away. This is definitely one of my more interesting (yet totally wearable) summer fragrances!
Similarly inspired, I am in Le Temps d’Une Fete today.
Eau d’Ete is just a genius scent. Deceptively simple and utterly wearable, yet never boring. I love it, and you smell great.
Scent of the morning is Demeter honeysuckle. Perfect for a damp spring morning. When it wears off I’ll refresh with something else. Maybe Donna Karan Gold, maybe Lancôme Climat.
Went with Gold
The honeysuckle is very pretty. Should try to find the perfume oil sometime, because the cologne is so fleeting.
Olympic Orchids Golden Cattleya today. I’m liking it so far: a joyful, feminine honey. Orange blossom honey.
I LOVE Golden Cattleya. It is pure sunlight and joy when first applied … bursting with joy, really. It settles down to something that is a tiny bit dusty (my mother-in-law called it dusty) and quite wonderful.
I wore it to visit my in-laws a few times, and every time she hugged me, my mother-in-law would tell how great I smelled. I bought her a bottle, and the last time we visited, she was wearing it and when I used the bathroom, there was the bottle, with a noticeably lower level 🙂
What a sweet story! I wish I had family (or friends for that matter) who appreciated scent and would like it as a gift. It would make me happy to share it with them. And you checked the fluid level you super sleuth 😉
I’m really into honey scents and notes lately. It is warm, earthy, cheerful, and grounding. Honey and beeswax are my favorite kind of sweet in perfume. Similar in feel to tobacco. Dusty is a good description. Like the pollen dust is included.
Pollen — yes, that’s it.
Well, the bottle was out in the open 🙂 I would never open a cabinet.
I really like the beeswax note in Fox by Sweet Anthem. There is a tiny bit of beeswax in Diptyque’s excellent mimosa perfume, Essences Insensées (EI) 2014. I think I’ll wear EI to bed.
I was running late and grabbed the first bottle that came to hand, which turned out to be AA Anisia Bella. I always forget how much I like this fragrance until I actually wear it, because I hate licorice, anise, etc. But for some reason I enjoy wearing this.
Dior Addict is my scent of the day.
I didn’t know it was National Candy Month. I’ll celebrate with some dark chocolate later on today.
I almost wore Addict today!
Hey “almost” twin!
I’m wearing OJ Osmanthus, and will definitely eat some eggs today (I do almost every day).
SOTD: Avant Garde (Lanvin)
Opus I by Amouage today. It’s still very cool outside, so I’m all about scents with some power this week.
Today, I’m wearing one of my most recent loves, House of Cherry Bomb Tobacco Cognac, which has the perfect amount of muskiness for my apparently delicate sensibilities. After yesterday’s adventure with Musc Tonkin (which, admittedly, had some moments I liked very much), I needed something that put me at ease and that I could safely wear multiple sprays of.
My friend Alexis made that one with her perfume partner Maria! So pleased to see that it makes someone happy. She’s a lovely woman, and that’s a lovely scent.
My compliments to the chefs! It really is a lovely scent, and I fell so hard for it that ended up buying a bottle about a week after getting a sample!.
In other news, I was getting mysterious wafts of Kiehl’s Musk only to realize that my almost-full rollerball of the oil had broken and spilled all over the inside of my purse, saturating everything in its path. Sigh.
Infusion d’Iris from a very generous Freebie package. It is lovely. Thank you very much Ula!!!
After all that fruits-are-back talk yesterday (mostly by me), I’m wearing Byredo Pulp. I like it a lot and am considering buying a full bottle.
Do you find the beginning stage of this scent overpowering? The dry down is quite beautiful.
You know, I don’t, really, as I wear this when I crave that pure hit of fruit. But you have to take into account that there was a time when I wore Fracas every day, for months. My nose is not exactly delicate. More refined individuals could definitely find Pulp a bit much.
I used to wear several of sprays of Paris to university years ago. Mind you people did put on a lot more perfume. I’m glad there are no perfume rules where I live. Even more rules to ignore…
Continuing with the unnamed rose-peony oil from Urban Outfitters. I think I saw a few of you discussing how you like the scent of real peonies but hate the overly sweetened note in many perfumes. I am not an expert and can’t recall what real peonies smell like, but I will say that this is nice and fresh and not at all sweet, so maybe it’s something you’d like? Many of you probably all have an Urban Outfitters at a mall or something nearby, so I would recommend giving it a sniff and seeing if it suits.
Hope you’re all well!
I love a rose-peony scent. No Urban Outfitters near me, though.
There’s always online (unsniffed of course!)

And that one is even smaller and cheaper than my bottle!
Happy Wednesday (hump day) to everyone. A little stressed out this morning. Going through pre-op at hospital this morning to prepare for my surgery on the 10th. Just going through all that information with the nurse is nerve-wracking!
My SOTD is Wild Fig & Cassis by Jo Malone. Somehow the smell of figs is calming to me, so this was the best choice for today.
Uck. Sorry you are going through that.
Oh, good luck with your medical adventures. That road can be a little terrifying. Best wishes headed your way 🙂
Oh, sorry, hope you’re all done with that now, can take a deep breath, and relax.
Good luck!
Good luck, and breathe deep!
Good luck!! 🙂
I hope the surgery goes well and you have a quick recovery. Best of luck and do keep us posted!
For the first time in two weeks, wearing scent actually appealed to me….Guerlain Heritage, a summer staple. Coughed solid 5 hrs last night, slept 3 1/2. Lets hope my interest in Heritage is a sign.
Hope you feel better soon and have at least 5 hours of sleep tonight.
Vetiver Tonka today.
Yum.
Houbigant Fleurs d’Oranger, very pretty!
That is a pretty scent. I remember sniffing it at a department store a while back.
I’m in Gris Clair from a very generous NSTer. I was supposed to be sending her something… but it turned into a swap–I suspect I may have got the better end of the deal!
Speaking of generous NSTers, I was a little grouchy that I had not a single British niche fragrance for Friday, until I remember the mini of Artemisia sent to me by another NSTer. Whoohooo… I am basking, or fuming, or exuding…. in the generosity of my fellow perfumistas. Love you guys!
Purple iris are blooming everywhere in my neighborhood and add a stately elegance to my otherwise informal cottage garden. Likewise, they add some much-needed architecture to the pitcher of ruffly peonies on my table.
And they inspired my SOTD, Chanel Misia, which is evolving nicely as a cool morning brightens to a warm, sunny afternoon. The violet has met the iris and the orris root has now lent its powdery accord: I get no rose from this scent. ar all. I like it better than Lipstick Rose but Guerlain Meteorites is definitely my favorite makeup scent.
Iris and peonies are lovely together.
I am also wearing Misia today. I have been wearing it a lot since I bought it. I really love it. I sprayed it generously on myself this morning and I can still smell it now , which is 8 hours later.
SOTD is Dior J’adore L’absolu. I smell pretty. Now if only a spritz of this stuff would make me look like Charlize Theron… lol
In the J’Adore ads, I think Charlize is wearing Eau de Photoshop. 🙂
Can I get that in a bottle? That would work for me 😉
Funny. Wait..sign me up.
This morning was grey, foggy, damp, and I felt very chilled out so I put on Lalique Encre Noire. But then I needed to bring things up a bit and layered some Lancome Mille et Une Fleurs. The vetiver and rose are nice compliments.
That sounds like an interesting combination, will try.
Going to try that too!
Inspired by Dawn this morning, I’m wearing Feminite du Bois. It’s all cinnamon on me right now and I’m loving it. Thanks to Pixel for the sample!
🙂 let me know if you want a decant.
In Kenzo Flower Oriental. Pretty but not standing up to the day – maybe I should have gone with Chinatown…
P.S. Yay for both Egg and Cheese Day. I stopped listening to the pronunciamentos (sp.) of nutritionists during their “too many eggs are bad” phase.
Oh yes. The “evil” egg (cholesterol dontcha know) is now being touted for its choline content which helps decrease fatty liver. Sigh.
BV Knot. Just a little bit left in my sample vial and then I’m getting a bottle.
Tried Ostara yesterday.
My husband loved it, but I smelled a powdery note.
I just don’t like powder in my fragrances.
Last for quite awhile…..
Oh, well, there are other scents on the horizon!!
Sampling JM Lime Basil & Mandarin today. Emjoyed the first blast of citrus, but now there is a generic kind of “men’s cologne” smell that is really grating on me. Off to the swap pile!
This one does the same on me. Smells great on some people, but I don’t think it’s good on all skin types.
SOTD = VC&A Orchidee Vanille
I can pretty much wear this all year except during hot & humid days. I got a compliment today!
I loved that one when I tried it, years ago. A very delicate vanilla.
Compliments are so nice! They really put a smile on my face and a spring in my step! You smell lovely 🙂
I had no idea it was egg day.
Now I have the old egg commercial in my head: “I love eggs/From my head down to my legs”. That’s all I remember, actually
SOTD is Pacifica Mediterranean Fig.
I’m sampling Maai today. I think I really need to spray this to get the full effect. I was expecting much bigger frankly, but the later stages are gorgeous.
CdG Avignon, which was great this morning (but had faded by late afternoon)! I also tested Incense & Cedrat later and like it very much too. How many incenses are just TOO much incense? 😮
Atelier Grand Néroli for me today.
Scent twin!
SOTD was (current version) Chant d’Arômes EdT. I can’t remember what this was like long ago, so the lack of oak moss in the current version doesn’t bother me too much.
