If you have a free moment, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today.
I'm wearing Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower.
Reminder: tomorrow is BWF Friday: wear a big white floral. Partial credit for diet white florals, a wee bitsy dash of credit for other sorts of flowers. The decision of the judges will be final and binding on all participants.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Beige today – really lovely on a warm spring day. And Carnal Flower sounds wonderful.
We both smell pretty great!
Nuit de Tubereuse by L’Artisan today. It’s become my most worn fragrance of this year so far (I bought it at the end of December) – I just can’t seem to get enough of it, so beautiful and addictive.
We are cousins today then 🙂
I’m addicted to it, too! During the summer it’s my most worn fragrance.
Gah, carnal flower is so pretty! It’s going to be hard to choose a WF for tomorrow – I’m down to carnal flower, a la nuit, or velvet gardenia.
Today I’m wearing Diptyque Volutes. It’s nice layered over the Laura Mercier honey musk body cream. Also, it’s still cold today and I have to spend time outside, so the cozy warmth of this combo is perfect.
That sounds an amazing combo – you have inspired me!
Hey, that does sound like a great combo.
Honey Musk sounds wonderful!
My SOTD is Rose Rebelle Respawn (RRR).
I’ve worn Rose Flash a couple of times (purchased a sample with my bottle of RRR. It is quite beautiful, but not FBW for me. I don’t like tobacco in perfume, and I smell a hint of tobacco in Rose Flash all day. Because of this, I don’t have high hopes for Vanilla Flash 🙁
RRR is such an interesting one. What are you getting out of it? Thegoddessrena, LizzieB, and I all tried it at Twisted Lily recently and it was completely different on each of us.
RRR’s notes are ivy, mint leaves, carnation, rose, musks, incense, and cacao. To me, it is very sheer and gentle, but neither boring nor generic. I get a soft, slightly minty, green note; rose, and a light dusting of cocoa powder. This is NOT a gourmand.
I wish that I could smell the carnation, but alas, there is nothing remotely spicy in it to me. I don’t smell any incense.
Frankly, “musks” is such a vague term to me. Nowadays, it could mean something dirty or something clean. Whatever is in RRR is neither animalic nor detergent-y, to my nose.
I love RRR but it lasts all of an hour on me, if that!
Wish I could find something similar that lasted all day..
Have you tried spraying it? Dabbing it from a tiny sample vial might not be enough.
You and I seem to have similar tastes. The RRR sounds lovely. I had the same thought re Vanilla Flash when I saw the tobacco note listed. I dislike tobacco notes in fragrances and, of course, my skin magnifies them.
Yes, we do seem to have similar tastes. I avoid BWFs, too 🙂
Carnal Flower is gorgeous. I’m wearing MPG’s Jardin Blanc. It’s very sunny and springlike today so a good occasion for a bouquet of white flowers.
Ugh, it is completely grey here, again. We have only had 2 days of “real” spring so far.
Tomorrow is supposed to be warm at least!
True, but with thunderstorms! But will hope they are short.
I’d planned on another BWF today but it didn’t seem right with the cool and misty weather we’re having here in VA, so I ended up in AG Grand Amour. It smells great, and I feel very lucky to have a small bottle of the EDP (noticeably richer than the EDT).
Grand Amour is very nice.
Ditto! so pretty!
AG Grand Amour is perfect for spring. I get flowers and dirt when I wear it. It makes me want to get in my garden.
I decided to turn Heaven from a soft white floral into a big white floral by spraying lavishly. This edt has been a staple in my wardrobe for twenty-one years and I have gone through at least twenty bottles. For many years I was embarrassed to tell people who asked what I was wearing. But I recently discovered that the original formulation (which was bought out by Gap in 1994, the year I started wearing it) came from a niche company called Mottura which sold it in speciality shops, museum gift shops and Henri Bendell. The original formulation I preferred for its beeswax/incense vibe but the current formulation is a good enough rendition (albeit a clean musky drydown) and I always get complimented when I wear it. It is the only fragrance that my husband (whom I have known for 20 years) has ever asked “What are you wearing? It smells so good!”-said on our first date (Usually from him I get “What are you wearing? It”s giving me a headache!”)
How interesting! So does Gap still make it?
It was considered an “iconic” fragrance by the Gap and was in their stores for a very long time….last I looked it was gone…but you can still get it at online discounters…about seven years ago I could not find it at my local Gap and panicked…I called numerous Gap stores until I found one that carried it (it was on sale!) and I bought 10 bottles!
From what I read the original perfumer from Mottura was hired by Gap after they bought out his formulations for Heaven, Grass and Air (Gap renamed it Earth) and he created Dream (jasmine based) and OM (a gorgeous and very affordable incense) while working for the company. He is currently selling high end candles under another name as a new business venture. From what I have read and experienced the original formulation for Grass was amazing and not what you smelled when they brought it back in 2008/9.
I had little tin travel sprays of Gap Heaven, Grass, Earth and Dream many years ago, before my full-blown perfume addition struck. They were so cute and smelled great, and got a ton of wear because I only had 5 or 6 or so bottles of perfume at that time. I can only imagine how wonderful the original Mottura scents were.
I loved those little steel bottles! I had Grass in my purse, Grass in my bathroom, Grass in my car, Grass in my locker… Ah, the 90’s.
Thanks!
Oh, very interesting, I’m not familiar with this one, guess I wasn’t much of a Gap shopper! Thanks for the history, sounds nice. Glad you were able to find all those bottles, I would’ve done the same!
SOTD: Michael Kors Signature EdP.
Preparing myself for tomorrow’s BWF!
I almost wore that today myself!
Today I’m wearing Gardenia Musk #4 by Trish McEvoy. It’s discontinued, but I have a FB so can spray with abandon.
Spray with abandon for they have brought it back! Just found it selling at Nordstroms…I always liked the Blackberry Musk (don’t remember the number attached to it right now 🙂 )
Good news for all the Gardenia Musk fans!
#9, Blackberry & Vanilla Musk, one of my favorites.
Wearing Fleur09, reviewed by NST’s Jessica last fall (blindly ordered the travel spray in a weak moment). It’s a really nice BWF, and I encourage any BWF fan contemplating a frag buy to go for Aedes’ Fleur09 promo, mentioned here yesterday. It’s very present and long lasting, without being obnoxiously tenacious.
Hello all! Sampling Pharrell Williams’ Girl this morning. Idly clicked over to Sephora and the price point dropped it out of the ‘maybe this is worth a rollerball’ debate. That was easy!
I’m slumping a little so I’ve just been working my way through multiple samples a day lately. I’ll see what grabs my attention this afternoon!
I got a niche sampler bag for free from Sephora a while back and this one was in there. When I first sprayed it on a family member said “What’s that chemical smell?”…I sniffed my wrist and sure enough it was me! But the drydown…wow! gorgeous! However, I really don’t care for the look of bottle and the price is a bit steep so I think I’ll pass….
I believe that’s where my sample was from 🙂 The rollerball isn’t listed online (anymore? in Canada, anyway) but I really don’t need 100ml of it, especially at $155CDN. I am enjoying the drydown, though! I think that money is earmarked for saving up for an actual bottle of Coromandel, though. I’ve been using purchased samples for ages now!
SOTD is Au Masculin Eau de Minuit (Lolita Lempicka). Just couldn’t do BWF today. 🙂
SOTD is SL Un Bois Vanille. This is a total “stand by me” fragrance that a great fit for every day and any occasion. I am halfway through my bottle and will definitely repurchase.
Such a *comfortable* fragrance.
Sometimes *comfortable* hits the right spot 🙂
I went through a bottle of that! So lovely! I use to layer that and the SL Orange
I think fragrancenet carries this one for a really reduced price…(I know, I am a bad influence 🙂 !!)
Bad influence, but in the BEST way possible! 😉
Wow, that is a great price. It wasn’t on my list, but I’m considering it!
You can never go wrong with Un Bois Vanille. I really think it’s the most accessible scent Lutens ever created.
“Accessible,” exactly.
My first Lutens!
Wearing Sisley Soir de Lune- does this count as a big white flower?
The main things I get are woods, honey and rose, but do you smell more jasmine in it? Maybe it’s smaller white floral? 🙂 (And this makes me curious, would be interested to know what if anything might count as a white floral chypre…) In any case you smell great!
There’s a little bit of jasmine in there to my nose but I get more rose-patchouli than anything else.
Samples from generous NSTers on either arm – Ce Soir ou Jamais on one arm and Lorenzo Villoresi Donna on the other. Still in the early stages of both, so we’ll see how this goes.
March wrote a beautiful post about Annick Goutal and Ce Soir ou Jamais yesterday on the Perfume Posse.
I just read that post. I’m glad she is back to posting. Very beautiful indeed.
Thanks to insomnia, I just went to read it. Beautiful article – thank you so much for mentioning it.
I Profumi di Firenze Costa Mediterranea. Big bright lemony-herbal thing which is saved from smelling like a fish dish by the addition of roses and vetiver (it’s sort of like White Linen for Men, to be honest). A nice reflection of this chilly sunshiny morning we’re having (and probably even better in the summer).
I’ve wanted to try this one. Lemon-herbal sounds like a dream to me.
Today I’m in Chanel Cristalle edp – it’s foggy this morning but is supposed to be sunny later on. Yay!
It’s Testing Thursday: CK Truth on one arm and Piguet Calypso on the other. Truth, so far, is pleasant but very very quiet, a skin scent almost from the beginning. OTOH, my inner arm is tingling where I sprayed it, so I have doubts this is going to work out for me. I may have to scrub in order not to itch all day.
Calypso is also nice, a powdery rose-geranium with amber and patchouli, but it’s not particularly distinctive, and I would probably rather wear Ungaro Diva. THere’s a milky suede thing in here that I like, though.
Later on, I’m going to wear Carnal Flower. Digging BWF week!
Tested CK Truth when if first came out and liked it but ended up buying the flanker Truth Lush which I drained pronto….that one was a skin scent as well and I had to spray it often throughout the day….
Loved Diva….a friend sent me a very large decant and it went quickly as well!
I love the Diva bottle but have never given it a sniff… you guys are inspiring me to order a sample!
The minis are usually easy to find, and very affordable.
I have a bottle of Truth in my drawer at work (I’ve got a pretty big collection in there by now) because its so office-friendly – soft and pretty but still smells good. I do spray on quite a bit at a time, and refresh lavishly, so its a good thing it doesn’t bother my skin. Its one of my favorite “cheap thrills”, sorry it doesn’t seem to work for you.
I’ve never had a skin reaction to fragrance before. I don’t react to the usual allergenic suspects, so I’m surprised at this.
Truth is GONE (has been gone for an hour) and the Calypso has subsided to a soft ambery-rose powder. Still very pleasant.
All the same, I am going to go BWF from now on – and hope that it’s calmed down before community chorus dress rehearsal at 7pm – with Teo Cabanel Lace Garden, which is a bit quieter than some. I’ll save Carnal Flower for tomorrow lest That One Scent-Sensitive Soprano shriek at me.
I was going to wear Donna Karan Gold today, but I spritzed it on my hand last night. I really do like it, but for some reason everything sweet is just not doing it for me at this time. I’ve been sick with a respiratory infection for over a month now, my second within a six month time period. I felt I needed something a little more aromatic, but I didn’t want to go for full on citrus. I chose Thymes Wild Angelica Petite Cologne. Just right for the way I feel. I wish they still made these.
Me too! The respiratory infection that is… driving me nuts. Too many hours in bed and too many antibiotics. I NEVER had this problem when I was young. A while back someone asked about scents for when you don’t feel great. Headaches of course are a category in themselves… But with this on again off again respiratory thing… I can tell when I am feeling better because I start to crave big bold fragrances. Yesterday I liberally applied Good Girl Gone Bad, so knew I was on the mend.
I’m glad you’re doing better. I am finding that I can’t take many of my favorite scents right now. It’s so strange. I’m reaching for the ones that I don’t wear as often, hoping to find something right for how I feel. I had been planning on wearing Lust for BWF Friday, but I just don’t think that I could stand it.
Cold, drizzly, bleh outside. I’m in leather again, but a softer one this time – Cuir de Russie. I find that I’m associating this perfume with wearing a white shirt or something light colored. I’m sure others have done this or associated perfumes with certain “looks” or clothing or colors, but it just hit me that I keep reaching for whites and creams when wearing this scent.
I do this too – I just noticed I feel especially compelled to wear pink with YSL Paris.
After yesterday’s success with Parfums DelRae’s Amoureuse, I decided to go for Wit today. (Hah.) I’m also testing Bois d’Armenie, which I’m enjoying, but it’s a bit of an autumn-ish contrast with the springiness of Wit.
Wit is gorgeous.
It is!
Very gorgeous.
Wit is everything. Socking away my pennies for a FB.
No scnet for me on Tuesday or Wednesday. I got food poisoning late Monday night/Tuesday morning, and that knocked me out for days. Ugh.
Finally back at 100%, and wearing Crabtree and Evelyn’s Jasmine de Provence. Trying to have a BWF week if it kills me! 🙂
🙁
Glad you are finally feeling better. I think food poisoning is worse than a general cold or flu.
GLad you are better, and hope you stay well!
Oh, sorry to hear that! Glad you are O.K. now.
Thanks Mals, Jenkr and Laila!
I am wearing Wrappings (Clinique) today. While at the Clinique counter at a local Macy’s recently, I asked whether or not they had this perfume and they didn’t have it in stock. However, I was pleasantly surprised by a nice SA who looked it up online and said she could order it for me. The coffret with lotion was all that was available, but that was OK for me. It arrived yesterday and today I am enjoying it.
I really need to try Wrappings.
You would like it, mals…it’s very green! It used to be a staple at the Clinique counters but I read somewhere that they only bring it out during the Christmas holidays and it is usually accompanied by a body lotion…you have to buy the set….I loved it…but then again I love chypres 🙂 !!
I think they do have it at the counters at Christmastime, I have one and a spare set with the body lotion and have bought them then. Still have a bit left of the bar soap which is absolute green heaven! but that appears to have been d/c a couple of years ago.
Glad to hear it is still available in stores. I tried to get some this past Christmas and was told it is not carried in any stores and is special order only and almost impossible to get. The SA was obviously NOT going to be helpful about it so I didn’t pursue any further but maybe next year I will try someplace else.
I’m wearing Yardley Iris today. My allergies are really acting up, and two small sprays of this was all I could manage this morning.
Hopefully, they’ll straighten out by tonight. I am going to a charity event with my husband, and was hoping to wear Shalimar.
How is that compared to the “name” irises? Iris Silver Mist, Iris Poudre, Infusion d’Iris , etc?
Out of the 3 you listed, I have only used Infusion d’Iris. I’ve also tried Hermes Hiris.
Yardley Iris is not as sophisticated or long lasting as Hiris or Infusion d’Iris, but still nice and easy to wear. Very pleasant–good for allergy days.
I discovered Yardley Iris last year, and I really enjoy it. It’s great for layering when you want just that little extra iris. I find the initial blast to smell like straight-up rubbing alcohol, but some folks over at Fragrantica think the top notes smell like lavender. It’s not as rooty/carroty as ISM, nor as warm as Infusion d’Iris. It’s often compared to Hiris, which I’ve never tested. For less than $20, it’s a great buy.
Trying the new, green Petite Robe Noire, and finding it very cheap smelling. A shame, for that pistacchio note could have been truly great in a different setting.
Completely freaked out by the weather – warm, thunderstorms, not a lot of rain. Praying for no tornados. SOTD is SL Five O’Clock at Gingembre from a generous NSTer as part of a swap. Loooooving this!
Yikes! I don’t miss tornados!! But you smell great, I love Five O’Clock au Gigembre.
My first Lutens! I think 5 o’clock is fabulous. So versatile. You smell delish!
Interview #2 today, therefore… 31 Rue Cambon 😉
My confidence building scent.
Ooooh!!! Good luck!!
Thanks!! Got them dang butterflies in my tummy. Even in my 40s they don’t go away!
Remember that you are a 31 Rue Cambon-wearing queen, and that you’ve got this.
I am in my 40s, and still get butterflies in my stomach. Deep breathing, ensuring that the exhalation is longer than the inhalation, helps me. Good luck and know that all of your on-line fragrant friends are pulling for you! 🙂
It’s what I wear for when I need to appear poised and polished too 🙂
Good luck!
Good luck, stay confident!
Good luck! We’ve got fingers crossed for you!
Continuing to reacquaint myself with Bvlgari and wearing Au The Rouge. It’s light and pretty and, more than anything, makes me want a nice, hot cup of tea with cream and a honey.
I am freezing today even though the temperature is not that cold outside. Warming myself up with SSS Champagne de Bois.
You smell lovely!
Allow me to take this opportunity to put in a plug for modestly priced Zirh Ikon. Kevin’s review of this is pitch perfect and the only reason I own Ikon is because it layers beautifully with flower soliflores. Today I will match it with Pacifica Island Pikake but I imagine it would be nice with other flowers that could take a little propping up with wood and incense.
Had I not gotten my travel sprays of Dame Perfumery this week (which really side tracked me as I wanted to try them all!) I probably would have worn Pacifica’s Wakiki Pikaki….definitely a big white floral! I love it in the summer. and now I am off to read Kevin’s review……..
It is Wakiki Pikake. I can never get that right…..
LOL! I misspelled it too! But I can see how it would layer nicely with Icon…you smell great!
There is a little group of masculines referred to as Baroque Fougeres. They are the siblings of all those everything but the kitchen sink Chypres that were so popular in 1980s and 1990s. Ikon is later but I mentally group it with Halston Z-14 and Zino Davidoff those these two are sillage machines!
SOTD is CB I Hate Perfume Cradle of Light. Starts out grassy (“That’s a strange one” said DH), then a lovely jasmine, now musk. Very quiet at this point. CB’s scents change quite a bit over time, on me anyway, interesting to observe the progressions.
Really like that one. Only had a dabber sample, and it was quite short lived on me.
Just put on some Atelier Cedrat Enivrant, thanks to a lovely PFG (thanks pixel!). The opening is mouthwatering, but it’s a little soapy right now. Hoping that it moves on from this, as I’m not a fan of soap.
Still commando but thinking about Chanel No. 5…it is an errands day with both my kids off from school…. and I need something classic and elegant.
Today I’m taking a break from sampling /wearing roses. Byredo 1996 is my SOTD.
Mooching at home day today with weird weather- lots of grey and rain and wind but it really isnt even cool enough for a cardigan yet.
Started off with a shower with sandalwood soap and body butter so Santal de Mysore. When that faded down i thought id stick with trying to be cosy and go Bois d’Iris, but it just wasnt doing it for me.
Then I read Olfactoria’s (Tara’s) Hiris review and got inspired to douse myself 🙂 – have realised this is a moody weather scent for me as it’s way to sharp in hot weather and gives me a headache but it was great today.
Now Im back in Baiser Volé edp, which is also perfect.
I’m curious about that sandalwood body butter you mentioned. What is it?
Me too – I would love a sandalwood body butter!
Down south here (west aus) in Albany we grow Australian Sandalwood and there’s a company, ‘Mount Romance’, that make heaps of Australian sandalwood products. I found the body butter in a health food store very cheaply and it smells beautiful. It’s lighter and fresher than Indian sandalwood but still obviously sandalwood.
I just checked, they ship internationally but the prices are a bit cringe-worthy :-/
Womp womp. Oh well. Thank you though!
Wearing Bendelirious! I feel there needs to be a “!” after the name — wasn’t there a drugstore perfume just called “!”?
Exclamation! by Coty in a black & white ! bottle 🙂
I loved that when I was 12! 🙂
yup! I had it too !
I went with Soivohle’s Daybreak Violin today. I’m trying to work my way up to a BWF for tomorrow. Baby steps.
The lovely Seville a l’Aube wafts about me today, partly in celebration of my design ‘Seville’ gracing the cover of the June Just Cross Stitch magazine (/shameless plug)
I just took a look and it is stupendous! And on the cover, too. You must be thrilled!
Congratulations!
Gorgeous! I wish I had the patience to create something so beautiful!
Congratulations! Just looked at your website for the first time. Your designs and home are beautiful, and spring at Gracewood through the pear blossoms made me gasp.! I haven’t done cross stitch for ages but your site inspires me to think about picking it up again . . .
My thanks for all the kind comments. Laila my patterns are really easy, I always say you’ll never go blind or broke stitching them, lol
Oh Flannery your work is beautiful and your property just fabulous. How lucky to wake up each day and get to see that view!
Congrats on front page! I love how Seville is Seville a l’aube orange too! 🙂
Congratulations!
I put on some Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de Fleur this morning b/c I wanted floral, but still warm. We’re having freezing fog (“frog”?) here today, so I ended up layering it with Pacifica Spanish Amber to warm it up some more. Brr. I’m not sure what I’ll wear tomorrow, but I have a few to choose. Carnal Flower is definitely in the mix!
I keep my Spanish Amber bottle at work and often apply at the end of the day before I leave…something very comforting in that scent for me….and it also pairs nice with Jo Malone Red Roses (keep that at work too!)
I can totally see how it would layer well with Red Roses! I’ve actually layered it with Guerlain Vetiver too. It’s almost just a “base”. I like how the incense in it is barely there – it’s cozy but really subdued.
How about “ice-fog”?
I am trying Phi de Kandaher for the second time today. I didn’t get anything special the first time, but today it is reminding me of how much I love Andy Tauer’s work. Such a beautiful texture! And unlike any rose I have tried before. I was worried it would go sour/rancid (which most roses do on my skin) and/or bathroom cleaner (which some Tauers do on my skin). Luckily, it has not yet done either 🙂
I was wondering if people have tried Phi and Rose Flash, and how they compare? (I have not tried Rose Flash).
I tried Phi only once and the tobacco, a note I dislike, blossomed on my skin but not the rose! I need to try it again. Most people seem to love it.
I admire PHI, but on me it smells like a headshop. I will continue to explore it, though. There’s something intriguing in there.
Rose Flash is very different, a bright exuberant hyper-realistic rose. I find it close to being a soliflore, and the quality of the rose oil used is unmistakable. I know what you mean about rose notes going sour, and this one does not. Here’s a nice review:
http://persolaise.blogspot.com/2014/10/persolaise-review-rose-flash-from-tauer.html
Mandragore. I was looking for an energizing scent, something to pick me up through work and then moving chores after…
This little decant is zippy but perhaps it will take magic to push through…
I keep my Mandragore in the fridge for hot, sunny days…
That’s genius! My Mandragore stays in my desk at school. I spray it liberally after lunch on myself and my students always say ” it smells like licorice in here.” I think it helps stimulate thought and fcombats the after-lunch delerium. Might have to put it in my mini fridge now… 🙂
It seemed to disappear on me, actually, and I topped it up with TF Scent to power through the grant writing part of today…
Ugly, ugly day here. We’re under a severe weather alert – anything from damaging winds, heavy downpours, large hail, flooding, and tornadoes are possible thru tonight. And yes, my basement floods. Aargh!
SOTD for Throwback Thursday is vintage Helena Rubenstein Heaven Sent. All the recent talk about Dame Perfumery is what reminded me of this one. I first discovered Jeffrey Dame a dozen or so years ago when I was looking up Heaven Sent. My search took me to Long Lost Perfume, where at that time he recreated ‘original recipe perfume’ versions of various scents, including ‘Infinite Grace,’ his version of HS using the original formula from the ’50’s. He noted that the original HS fragrance – not the extremely watered down version sold by Dana – was not for the timid. Despite its commercial, marketing HS to young women as ‘a little bit naughty and a little bit nice,’ there was a whole lot more naughty in the original stuff! No fruity floral to entice the young woman of today, the vintage has only a bit of light citrus that leading to spicy flowers and eventually a base with patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss and finally, benzoin, for its soft, powdery finish. It’s still a nice, occasional treat, full of fond memories for me, after all these years!
Gosh I remember Heaven Scent! So many of my classmates wore both Heaven Scent and Chantilly in middle school (at that time I was obsessed with Chanel’s Cristalle)…I had forgotten that Jeffrey Dame is the mastermind behind Long Lost Perfumes….I believe he is still selling vintage replicated perfumes…very reasonably priced I might add….. and I agree….you would probably never come across a teenage girl wearing something like the original Heaven Scent today!
and , by the way, everyone refers to “Keep it simple Monday”, “Throw back Thursday”, etc…what are the themes for Tuesday and Wednesday?
It’s whatever you want those days – or any day – to be! I think each of us just picked those terms/days to suit ourselves and our scent choices. Just like some have chosen to make a week out of the Friday community theme instead of just a day. Purely a matter of individual choice.
I still have – and love, on occasion – vintage Houbigant Chantilly. That was always my favorite. Another one that was not quite as ‘demure’ as its name implies!
I have a vintage mini of Heaven Sent floating in my Sample Sea. Fond memories, indeed!
Eek! I hope that you guys stay safe!
Testing the new Narciso after reading Luca Turin’s review of it. Originally i dismissed it as blandish, but he compares it to a pair of gigantic buff-coloured Mary-Janes. Now I’m enjoying it as ‘demure’ on steroids 😀
I’m thinking of Alice strolling around Wonderland, and not being taken aback by either blue caterpillars on hookahs, or rabbits with pocket watches…
Then I need it 🙂
Well, I may as well talk us both into it at the same time! Really though – I’m not sure it gives me the unflappable demeanor of Alice, more that it should be worn by someone like that…
Robin described it as “a very thin schmear of the gardenia marshmallow fluff on a wood plank.” It sounds like a WF I might be able to tolerate. I haven’t seen it in the stores, though.
Buff-coloured Mary-Janes plus marshmallow fluff on a wood plank sounds like the smores I used to make my son when he was little. Graham cracker (usually stale cuz that’s the only time I used them) plus peanut butter and marshmallows toasted in the oven.
Yeah, exactly…tolerable for a WF! Today I smelled my shirt and found it pretty and dull in equal measure again. It has that impassive expression with its baby doll air 🙂
I was almost going to save this one for tomorrow, but I decided to go with Sikkim Girls today.
Today I am wearing Chanel No. 19 Poudre. I know that this fragrance has been much maligned by many people, but I find it addictive and it’s my go-to fragrance when I am perplexed as to what to wear. It is also office friendly and no one gives me negative comments when I wear it.
I love it. I also love regular old No.19.
Continuing to surf my Sample Sea, SOTD is Friedemodin’s Jardin Mystique. “Sparkling green” on me is harsh and strident, lotv is “showcased” but meh, “precious woods” are generic pencil shavings.
So you’ll be ordering a full bottle immediately? 🙂
I think I should wait to experience the orgasmic drydown before I decide 😀
LOL!
Great review!
🙂
SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube
Orange blossom, lavender, incense – I could wear it all year long! My bottle is now below the halfway point and that says a lot since it has a lot of siblings.
“Sniff! Mom likes you better”
SOTD is vintage Lauren. I used to really love this in college. My roommate used to smell so good in it and she gave her bottle to me since she preferred Opium (which also smelled darned good back then in the mid-80s). It was really a signature through medical school. Then I felt like my bottle went off. Anyhoo, my decant is smelling pretty good and I am trying to decide whether to chance an e-bay purchase of the vintage cologne or try the current EDT when I get a chance (always worried that the vintage stuff will get snapped up). I think the local Dillard’s still has a tester.
This is an old love of mine that I discovered when it first came out. I wore it as a flight attendant in the late 70’s and early 80’s. There’s nothing like it, and I can imagine someone in medical school rocking it. It eventually was set aside for other loves, and so it goes. Now that I’m older, I’m enjoying visiting the past. I love the vintage, and I recently bought a NIB bottle on evilbay for a great price. It’s the real deal! I just looked to see if that seller is still offering it, but they’re not. There are some great deals right now, though. I had started getting vaguely interested in it again a couple of years ago, but when I started searching in earnest about six months ago, the prices for the vintage had skyrocketed. For some obscure reason, they’ve dropped back down for the time being. I have never tested the current version, but I have read that it is drastically different. I’ll be interested to hear what your experience is.
We’ll see. I am going to give it until Saturday, when I may have a chance to swing by Dillard’s. The bottles I am looking at on evilbay are partial ones, both about 1/2 full, so chances of them having turned are a little higher. Decisions, decisions.
I emailed one of the sellers and she said she had sprayed the bottle and it smelled like she remembered Lauren smelling and didn’t think the bottle had gone off. Decided what the heck. $30 for a 1/2-full 2 oz vintage bottle somehow seems reasonable in the crazy world of perfume.
Oh good! That sounds like a great deal for you. I hope you enjoy it! I spent many years practicing as a hem-onc nurse with a speciality in BMT, and I was strictly fragrance-free for years in that environment. I still work in the field as an independent consultant, and I still feel somewhat constrained by what is considered acceptable.
I remember and love Lauren from my mum wearing it in the 80’s. Then it vanished. When i found some online about 5yrs ago (beginning of the addiction phase) I immediately bought it. But it’s not the same. It’s Lauren, but she’s been lobotomised and she’s on so many drugs you can smell the chemicals a mile away.
Go the vintage.
