Happy National Fragrance Day! We're celebrating with our same old weekend open thread: talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the perfume you've got in an online shopping cart right now, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Wearing Oliban by Keiko Mecheri and loving it. Smoky and rosy and generally great. I wonder why this line doesn’t come up often here or in many other places. Have my eye on Mogador, Ume, Attar of Roses, and Bois Satin as well.
I do like a few and have reviewed a few, but admit it’s not my favorite! Have fallen a bit behind on testing their newest, though, need to try Embruns & Bois Satin.
Robin, you do an AMAZING job of keeping up with everything, especially considering the sheer volume of scents on the market.
I just meant I’m surprised by how infrequently any of her scents come up in the comments and in other places I frequent online. Maybe this stuff isn’t as good as I think it is 🙂
My perception (perhaps wrong, and hope others will chime in) is that KM used to be a bigger favorite with perfumistas, and has since been eclipsed by other niche lines.
I completely agree. I like a couple of her things that I’ve tried but do forget to actually wear them (Peau de Peche and Osmanthus to be precise).
I think the Osmanthus is the only one I own.
I sampled Embruns recently and it’s rather delicious from what Ive tried!
I liked that one too!
I have Oliban and like it–I need to get it out of the “resting” box and use it again soon. I like several of hers and got to meet her once at Kuhl-Linscomb in Houston. She is very charming. I also like her version of Datura.
🙂 I like the idea of the scents having a rest, as opposed to being in purgatory.
Commenters also used to mention Peau de Peche and the two loukhoum scents. I tried Loukhoum pour Soir recently and liked it. Please let us know your favorites – it is easy to lose track of perfumes that one had intended to test.
I was fixated on the roses because of my current obsession, but I liked what I smelled of Mogador and Attar de Roses, and even Damascena, though that one was less sultry than the others. Also liked Ume, which smelled enough like plum wine that I was charmed, and Bois Satin and Bois de Santal. Again, my nose may not be as sophisticated as some, but I’d guess there is definitely something in her line for many of us.
Ume is on my FB wishlist
Thanks – I should try to catch up on this line!
I own Peau de Peche, Loukhoum Poudree, and Ume. I also have a decant of Canyon Dreams, which is very beautiful but also very pricey!
Have to admit that I haven’t tried anything by her recently, though.
Happy Weekend and Happy Spring Break to my fellow educators and their students!
Mine begins with a trip to my mother’s today–not really vacation-y, but it’s been a while! 😉
I haven’t decided on a SOTD today. Definitely need something that yells SPRING! The weather is typical Oregon spring–sun-cloud-rain shower-sun again! I wish I had something that smells like the spicy-sweet of my daffodils. Are there any good narcissus scents?
I am not a massive fan of narcissus, but did like the Bruno Fazzolari that Kevin reviewed:
https://nstperfume.com/2014/12/17/bruno-fazzolari-au-dela-narcisse-des-montagnes-fragrance-review/
Thanks, Robin! I know full-well that loving a scent incidentally doesn’t necessarily mean that I want to wear it, either! There’s something in the scent of my daffies that reminds me of carnation, almost.
I would say the same…there are lots of flowers I adore but am surprised to find I almost never like in perfume. Freesia is one biggie. I adore the scent of the flower, but generally dislike freesia in perfume.
I do not like freesia in perfume at all. The fresh flowers are fine, though.
Too funny–mostly I can’t bear the real thing, but Ofresia has brought me around a bit 🙂
I don’t like freesia in perfumes, either! But I’m not sure I’ve smelled the real thing. . .
How about Le Temps d’Une Fete?
I don’t think I’ve explored the Nicolai line AT ALL! I am generally hesitant about incense frags, but that sounds like it could be lovely–with hyacinth, too!
Marjorie Rose,
I hope your Spring Break comes with nice weather. It rained 3 out of the 5 days this past week we were off. Also, check your local area to see if they are doing anything in appreciation of educators. This past week in Houston, one of our local movie theaters did free movies for all educators the whole week. All we had to do was show our id’s. Wasn’t much, but every little bit helps. Anyway, I hope your upcoming week is as relaxing as mine. Enjoy!
Thank you! It is looking like we will be having an unpredictable mix, which is actually exactly seasonal for these parts! The past two years, I have escaped to warmth, and I will miss the sunshine this year, I expect.
I do often ask “Do you have an educator discount” when buying supplies or books, or whatever, but it *is* surprising where we can find discounts elsewhere! Free movies sounds great! Did you see anything good?
What a cool thing to do for educators! My mom is a retired science teacher (junior high). People don’t realize how much extra time and resources you guys put into your jobs!
SOTD EL Bronze Godess Dry Oil Spray. Great stuff and a summer staple, because yes, it’s already in the mid-80’s here and supposed to be up around 90 later next week. Ugh!
I just blind bought Terracotta and am excited about it as it sounds like another great summer fragrance. Fingers crossed that I like it, or it will have to go!
Has anyone tried the Aftelier hair and body oils? My BG is getting dangerously low but I would like to try Aftelier oil instead. Any feedback or advice appreciated.
Hope all have a wonderfully fragrant weekend!
I wore Bronze Goddess a few days this week! I needed to feel like I was on vacation already! It was perfect.
I’ll be happy to send you about 15-20 degrees F! 😉
I would welcome them! We’ve got 50oF and rain today. . .
I have the Aftelier Ancient Resins oil, which I like very much. I haven’t used it on my hair, but it seems to be absorbed quickly by the skin – not greasy or messy. The scent is pleasant but not long-lasting.
Oh dang! I was hoping the fragrance was long lasting 🙁
It does last longer if it’s layered with a perfume, which would have fixative elements, I guess.
I have one of her face oils and one of her body oils… Really good quality, but very expensive. The scent in the oils is fleeting. I guess I would say that if money is no object, her oils are are a wonderful indulgence.
I was comparing ml to ml Aftelier/Bronze Goddess and the Aftelier is actually cheaper I think (other than the Ancient Resins, which is only 50ml).
But I have to say, the BG Oil scent lasts all day. Thanks for the info 🙂
I have the Aftelier Patchouli Spice Body Oil which has an astringent-like hint in its opening–maybe camphor? I like it after a shower. Initially it feels too strong to use with most perfumes, and then the smell dissipates after about 30 minutes, enough so that wearing perfume works fine.
Should have added that the scent is initially MUCH stronger than Caudelie’s Divine Oil, but calms down…
I love the Ancient Resins, and in fact have gone through it faster than any scented product I’ve ever bought. I find it lasts if I use 5+ pumps of it. (maybe why I’ve gone through it so fast!) The scent goes well with other incense frags and also adds complexity to simpler ones.
I also have nuxe prodigieuse, which I got very cheaply, and though that scent is immediately much stronger, it disappears much quicker on me, for what it’s worth.
The EL Bronze Goddess Dry Oil Spray sounds divine. I just might have to go online and order some 🙂
I love it! It looks intimidating in the bottle with all the sparkle, but it doesn’t really translate on the skin, so don’t let that turn you off 🙂
I must be the only one who does not like Mr. Cohen’s celebuscent (what I affectionately call Ancient Resins 🙂 ). I could only make out one note in Ancient Resins, and it was bitter and quite unpleasant. I wad so disappointed because I adore Leonard, and I was so looking forward to sharing a fragrance with him.
I like the scent but the fact that it lasts less than 30 minutes on me is a deal breaker. It’s far too expensive to have it fade that fast. The oil is nice but so are a lot of other oils for a fraction of the cost.
Hey, Deva, didn’t want to post a swap notice for you and only you – send me a holla at lisadarty in the land of the hot mail, about the Onda….maybe you’ve got something I need!
Just sent you a holla! 🙂
Deva, I can’t wait to hear about your first sniff of Terracotta! I think in the warm climate where you live you can’t have too many tropical scents!
I’ve just pulled my sample of Terracotta from last year. It’s been a year of exploring and learning and it’s interesting how my perception of different scents has changed over the last year – possible due to how many different fragrances I’ve tried.
Last year I felt the Terracotta was too heavy on the white flowers, which I thought I didn’t care for. Today it feels exquisite – all flowers and tropical. I am loving it am it’s in my checkout basket right now. :-O
I just got an email saying my bottle has shipped! It’s amazing how things just jump into our shopping carts 😉
It happens to me all the time with make-up, perfume, and Moose Tracks Frozen Yogurt at the grocery store- I get to the check out and WHOOPS- there it is! A half gallon of cool, sweet, mouth happiness!
Hope you enjoy you bottle when it arrives. I have my fingers crossed this is a blind buy that turns to true love, but one never knows. It should be easy to swap if it’s a bust, being a limited edition (although not sure how it qualifies as such, since it was out last year as well. Maybe Guerlain is copying EL Bronze Goddess schtick?).
Happy Sunday Evening to you!
Oh, and I decided to buy a back-bottle of Kenzo Amour, and I ended up at ebay to buy an older bottle. I found a gift set with the older 3.4oz bottle and a small (totally adorable) mini splash bottle. I’m happy to report that they smell like the scent I enjoy and not a newer formulation! Amour is such a wonderful, cozy scent! (Or used to be, anyway.)
I didnt realise it had been reformulated, but of course it has… :-/
I have a pink bottle of it, several years old now… whats the difference between new and old bottles?
After much non-scientific research, I *think* what happened was that it was reformulated when they switched to all fuchsia/hot pink bottles. My original bottle was a white 1.7. At that time, the 3.4 was tangerine and the mini was hot pink (I’m guessing that’s what you have). So, I made sure to buy a white or tangerine bottle in hopes of getting the older formulation.
I should note, I’m going on hearsay that it’s been reformulated. I haven’t actually gotten to Sephora lately myself, but there were enough mumblings and murmurings, that I became suspicious. So, if you’re not as impatient as I am, you might want to take a trip and sniff first!
Happy second day of spring! My SOTD is Diptyque’s Limited Edition 34 Boulevard Saint Germain Essences Insensees Eau de Parfum (the mimosa one). It is quite lovely, and I am going to order a bottle today.
Last weekend, we spent a day birding and viewing wildflowers in Mariposa and Madera Counties. Tomorrow, we’re going to Table Mountain to see the wildflowers (and California Newts, if we are lucky). If you live in Northern California, I highly recommend a visit to the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve (https://www.dfg.ca.gov/lands/er/region2/northtable.html).
I’d love to go bird watching. I get all excited when I see something other than the usual visitors to the birdbath in the summer.
I don’t have a species count yet from my husband, but bird highlights include a Bald Eagle and three birds with “lark” in their names — Lark Sparrows, Western Meadowlarks, and Horned Larks.
We saw one Pacific Treefrog and three or four California Newts. The newts are adorable with their orange bellies and foot soles and the way they move slowly around the bottom of a pool and then make a quick wiggly dash to the surface for a gulp of air.
The wildflower display was good. As we turned to walk back to the car, my husband asked (about the flowers) “So, have we seen all of our favorites?” I replied “Everything … except violets.” Two minutes later, I found some violets and at the same location, my husband spotted a very shiny gopher snake sunning itself, and he took a few photos. I imagine that the snake thought “Great, the minute I come out to sun myself on my front porch, the $%@! paparazzi show up!” 🙂
On the drive home, I realized that I forgot to wear perfume today! That’s easily fixed. I got a box of Demeter samples yesterday. They included a free one-ounce bottle of Incense. It was not a mistake — it was on the receipt with a price of $0.
It’s a weird public holiday/saturday over here,so confused I went to the shops only to find the ones I wanted to visit CLOSED!Lol.SOTD Amouage Sunshine. This white flowers-and-vanilla delight, led me to my favorite local pastry shop,as it had me craving for a local version of the chocolate eclair:normal choux pastry with a chantilly-vanilla cream filling;BUT:They add sugared, caramelised orange rind and cinnamon to the filling, with some chilly in the chocolate ganache on top.DELICIOUS.And Amouage Sunshine had me start to crave this!Lol!Happy Weekend NST!
Oooh! That pastry sounds delicious! I’ve been eating chocolate pudding with a few of my own candied orange rinds alongside for my dessert this week. So yummy!
I was SOOO happy they were open for business!Lol!Must confess:I ate two.Lol.Nothing beats chocolate pudding of any kind!!xo
I’m pretty sure that two pastries ALWAYS is a single serving! 😉
I’ve always thought you were a wise woman,now I KNOW!hehe
And that two puddings beat one!
Just a note:Lovers of Frederic Malle’s Iris Poudre:WAIT for the faaaar drydown of Amouage Sunshine.I was pleasantly surprised today after a proper day out with Sunshine!
I finally tried a sample of Sunshine-
At first thought was oh my-what is this?
The dry down is fantastic. It lasts all day..
I posted a question below-but figured I would ask you since you are an Amouage fan..if you have any recommendations of perfumes that are similar to Fate woman. I really love Fate, and I really love Sunshine, but I can’t buy both! HA!
Maybe I should just settle on an éclair…
Hi!I have not smelled Fate as yet,I’m afraid!But I CAN recommend you buy the Sunshine!Lol!Gorgeous,familiar,but also very unusual!My favorite Amouage’s are Beloved/Sunshine/Ubar/Lyric Woman/Jubilation XXV/Jubilation 25.In that order.Lol.
I have added Amouage’s “Sunshine” on my list for scents to try. So many people have raved about it. Hopefully, I won’t be disappointed.
Ok let me know if you ever try Fate!
I agree, Sunshine is fantastic.
I love Journey Woman/Ubar/Epic/Fate/Lyric/Ciel and now will throw Sunshine into that mix
I’m staying home nursing a cough on this rainy (again), first full day of spring. This is the second respiratory infection I’ve had in six months. I was intrigued enough by someone’s mention of Dame Perfumery to look at their site. They have minis of their fragrances for decent prices, so I am going to try some. I also saw the announcement of the of the sale at Demeter, so I am in the process of putting together a big shopping cart of some of the scents I haven’t tried yet, including Beetroot.
So sorry! Hope you’re better soon. Meantime, have fun at Demeter. I’m thinking about another round of minis myself so as to try the Orange Creamsicle (or whatever they call it, I’ve already forgotten).
I was searching for information on something else and found this useful post on different ways to use room sprays:
http://www.scentsnob.com/2013/08/10-ways-to-use-room-spray.html
Thanks! Some good ideas here. I spray the bed before putting on sheets. Is it terrible that I use some of my beloved ginormous FBs as room spray/linen sprays? I worry they will turn before I use them all, so if I have a big bottle, I use ’em like a room spray.
That sounds like a good way to use those huge bottles!
Wearing Yosh Sea Ranch today, my freebiemeet score!
I can see why people might not go nuts for this but it’s suiting me very well as a non-calone aquatic (a bit salty, a bit grassy) on a day when I am insisting it is spring no matter what the snow does.
My SOTD is Narciso Rodriguez Edp.
This is one of my samples that came in the mail yesterday from STC. I absolutely love it but it doesn’t last very long. If the longevity was better, it would definitely be a candidate for a FB. It only stayed on for about an hour. Anyone else experience this?
When I’ve worn it, it lasted a very long time. I have a spray sample, though, so maybe that makes a difference. Or maybe it’s the musks?
Ditto, a medium-long wear for me as well, at 2-3 sprays from my purse spray.
Maybe you’re anosmic to the musk. The NR edt smells great to me for about 30 minutes, then disappears completely. Other people can still smell it, though.
I can barely smell the EdT at all! So weird, because i will sense that my nose is processing something, but it turns up a total blank. In other words, the scent feels thick in my nose, but i get no other sensation! Strange.
I’ve used a spray sample with it and have had really good longevity.
Spring has come in…like a rainy day. Still testing out the Olympic Orchids samples – a quick yes/no round, followed by more in-depth analysis later on. That sounds much more scientific that it’s really going to be.
Ha! Have fun 🙁
I meant :), obviously!
It’s been snowing all morning but I think it may be stopping finally and the sun is starting to peek through. What is this “spring” everyone speaks of? Lol. No perfume yet today. I’ve been cleaning the house, the birdcages, the fish tank, and starting to pack up the kitchen.
I’m almost in kitchen remodel hell. The cabinets are in and they are ready to set a start date. I went to look at granite this week and have too many decisions to make. The countertop, the flooring, hardware, single or double bowl sink, ugh…should I keep the garbage disposal? What’s a girl to do?
Opted not to have garbage disposal…just one more thing that can break or require service! Went with the double sink, and glad I did. Found I liked the quartz better than the granite, and for once in my life, it was the less expensive choice. Floors are porcelain, very nice looking & low maintenance, but if I could do it again, I’d go for radiant heat beneath them. Good luck, you’ll be happy when it’s done.
I like the quartz but the granite is cheaper here. I was considering radiant heat but they said it really ups the electric bill if I go electric. If I plumb it in with the existing heat system it’s costly to install might not provide as much heat as I’d like. I need to talk to the plumber though because I think I may still want to do it.
I have a cream colored quartz with what looks like small pebbles. Even after discovering a ring of red wine the next morning it hasn’t stained. It’s takes a little scrubbing but definitely comes out. I like that the quartz has no texture, no place for crumbs to hide. It’s really low maintenance. If you’re planning to stay in your house for a while, it’s possible that no matter what feature you’re looking at (counter top, lighting, fixtures) the increased cost will be worth it.
Lol.I feel your pain!Last year I was in 2-Bathroom-remodel-hell!!But once it’s done….HAPPINESS.
We need to do those too. Eventually. I think I may tackle the half bath on my own with maybe some minor assistance from a plumber.
I accidentally ordered an oversize one bowl sink and ended up keeping it, which turned out to be a fabulous mistake. I love being able to wash any size pan and could not imagine having a two bowl sink. I also went back and forth about a disposal and ended up having one installed. I don’t use it often as we compost most food scraps, but I do like having it to clean up the dregs from the sink. Hang in there…it’s definitely worth it in the end!
I have a two-bowl sink and really wish I had a single large bowl instead.
See, I’ve always had a double and fear that switching to a single would send me into shock. I think I’d have a cleaner kitchen with a single because my hubby would have to put things away instead of leave them in the other bowl to dry.
The only thing that will shock you is that you had considered a double bowl! Seriously the single bowl is life changing! 😉
I hate hate hate my granite counters. They’re porous, impossible to keep clean, too easy to stain. And anything I drop on them from even an inch of height breaks.
Love having a garbage disposal, though. Just easier to cook with.
Really? What color are they? The corian we have now always stains. I was hoping a granite with a pattern in it would hide a multitude of sins.
I have my fingers crossed for you, Poodle, as you head into the kitchen re-do. It’s probably best to keep perfume, pain reliever, alcohol of your choice, and chocolate with you at all times for the duration of the project!
Seconding ALL of FearsMice’s advice. 🙂
I agree with all of that. I’m stocking up as we speak. Lol. On the bright side, my hubby has little interest in anything other than how much he needs to write a check for and when it’s due. He has no eye for color and doesn’t mind me making all the choices in that regard so at least we won’t come to blows over the backsplash.
I didn’t like the idea of a single-bowl sink at all, but got used to it quickly, and now think it might in fact be preferable.
That’s good to know because I’m leaning in that direction. At least today I am. 😉
Marron Chic for me today. Just wondering what people consider “fun” scents. So far only Playing with the Devil and Apres Soleil have gotten this designation from me
Oh this is an easy question for me,always!!BENDELIRIOUS!!
I just ordered Marron Chic this week! I’d been thinking of it from time to time, and I suddenly realized that it and the entire Nez a Nez line are no longer on Luckyscent. Some of them are showing up at discounters and Amazon associated sellers.
For fun, Escada Summer in Provence, with that crazy strawberry note, and Mary Greenwell Plum.
I got my bottle of Marron Chic at the beginning of the end of Bendel’s perfume department.
Pulp is my fun scent. It makes me laugh out loud when I spray it on.
I thought Escada Cherry in the Air was a fun scent. I tried it at Sephora and really expected to hate it, but I actually liked that crazy maraschino cherry note.
Hanae Mori “Butterfly.” And anything Lolita Lempicka, although I may be overly influenced by the bottles. Escada Rockin’ Rio was surprisingly fun, too–I bought a decant on sale for a young cousin, and almost kept it.
Such a great question! Mine are probably Cacharel Amor Amor and Annick Goutal Petite Cherie. They both feel so joyful to me. But as jirish put it earlier, Amor Amor makes me want to laugh out loud whenever I wear it!
SOTM is Cuir de Lancome, but will prolly switch to something lighter and springier later on when I head out to the garden. It’s going to be a perfect day to dig in the dirt – partly cloudy, partly sunny, damp from recent bucketing rainfall, and there are pear blossom petals all over everything.
I’m jealous. Still have a long way to go to see any dirt in my yard. We’re still covered in snow.
Aww, Poodle. I’m envious of your new kitchen. Okay, it will be painful for a while, but when it’s done it’ll be heaven! I have granite countertops and like them okay, but if I were redoing them I’d go with a quartz product – nice and impervious, just what you want in a kitchen. Wish I’d put that in my bathroom when it was redone a few years ago – my husband talked me into concrete (“oh, honey, it has such character!”), and while it IS beautiful, it is definitely NOT impervious. Have to be careful not to let things sit too long, or it develops “character” a little too quickly.
Hmmm….maybe I should reconsider the quartz…
SOTD Ambre Nuit, cosy on a grey day. I love this stuff, and want to wrap it around me. I suspect it has a whopping amount of IsoE Super and Ambroxan, still love the mixture. Anyone with a smarter nose know what’s in this? I get peppery rose and then a well blended mix that I can’t parse. Yummy! Be well, and stay warm, you guys still in snow.
Dia by amouage
I really love Fate Woman-but I don’t want to dish out the $
Anyone recommend a under 200 bottle of something similar to Fate?
Oh, I would love to know the answer to that question too. I love Fate Woman, and did get a decant that is very precious to me. I don’t see a FB in my future, sadly. 🙁
Fate is sooo good. I don’t have an answer for a similar scent either. I wish I did.
I found a little dab of Terracotta left in an unmarked sample tube (at least I’m pretty sure that’s what it is). I’m so glad I managed to order a bottle this time. So pretty and comfortable.
We are headed to the in-laws for their annual St Patrick’s day party that had to be delayed. I admit I’m not really in the mood for my husband’s (very nice) relations nor a party full of their (equally nice) friends. Bat was super wired cat last night and I had a headache so I got very little sleep. I have a harrumph today.
Poor Bat, and poor you! Hope you don’t end up having to stay late at the party.
My kitties are still unhappy about having their house turned upside down by the re-flooring and painting I’m having done. It’s hard to get them settled down.
Cats and dogs get just as stressed as we do when it comes to redecorating. I thought the dogs were going to go insane when we had the roof done. The sound of the nail gun did not amuse them at all.
Bruno Acampora Musc for me today. Something about it is reminding me of church today. That is a first, and I’m not sure what it is that is making me think of it. Loving it nonetheless.
I’m wearing Arabian Oud Kalemat and wow, is it good. I have a feeling I should have bought a bottle instead of a sample when I had the chance.
Nothing in my shopping cart at the moment, but I do have a bottle of Terracotta that’s already on its way (oops), and Kalemat might be in my mind’s shopping cart at the moment.
Guilty of the same “Ooops!” 😉
SOTD = Oriza L Legrand Muguet Fleuri, now in the earlier sweeter part of its drydown. I love this and am happily anticipating a purchase of that nice retro bottle, when my sample is gone.
In the meantime advertising has done it’s job and I purchased a smaller bottle of Séville à l’Aube with a 15% off coupon. Then, because that put my “to purchase” list out of order, I ordered the small bottle of Scent of Hope that was at the top of my list. This gives me an orange blossom, an iris, and a lily of the valley. Now I want to find a favorite rose and a carnation….
I love your reasoning–“I have to buy Scent of Hope, just to keep things from getting disorderly.” Can you get an Enabler’s Pin for enabling yourself?
I tend to be an underspender, but then I binge ocassionally. So I keep a List of Things to Acquire, by date of first desiring. I pretty much buy things in order unless a good deal comes along. In addition to these two perfumes, I also bought a pretty turquoise suede jacket that I have been eyeing for a year. It finally went on sale as well. And I had just done an extra week of oncall for which I get paid, so I was able to get all three items guilt free! This blows my perfume capital for a while, until the next time I do on-call…
I was just kidding. Treat yo’self!
Hi Laurels no worries, I was just trying the whole justification thing out loud, so to type. I meant it to be funnier than it came out, I guess.
Wearing Narcisco, my first purchase in years and years. Saw that there was one cofret left at Bloomies (of the edp, a travel spray and a body lotion) and took that as a sign that I should celebrate my new job. They also threw in a deluxe sample of Jour d’Hermes, a sample of Voyage, a sample of AdP Colonia Leather, and some other goodies, so I am very happy. Was in a training session this morning to learn how to handle dogs, and determine their moods by their faces and stance. Very interesting.
Ooooo, in preparation for your new job, you could binge-watch The Dog Whisperer 🙂
I already binge-watch My Cat from Hell, mostly in amazement because my four are sweeties.
http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2015/03/19/14-dead-from-poisoning-after-elderly-woman-enters-bus-doused-in-perfume/
Guys,I don’t think this is a true story, but read that news article please!Hilarious!!
I ESPECIALLY enjoyed their description of Aromatics Elixer!LOL!!
That is too funny. Totally fake but very funny.
SOTD = Chanel Misia
Unmistakeable Chanel iris base with a sweetish and citric light lipstick accord (and thank goodness, not like FM Lipstick Rose). It has a vintage vibe to it and reminds me a little of Dior Cuir Cannage, but lighter and more sheer. This has the least longevity on me out of all the Les Exclusifs but nevertheless was worth the wait for my decant. I am still smelling whiffs of it. I will have to spray on more the next time…today, I did the equivalent of 3 light sprays since I wasn’t sure how strong it is and I wanted to be sensitive to family members who are scent phobes.
If you had contributed to the Perfume X Indiegogo campaign, you should have just received an email update. Summarizing – Barbara Herman had a cross-country move, a new full-time job, but most importantly had been working with Antoine Lie and will end up with 3 (!) perfumes; all will be animalic (which scares the beejesus out of me). She is going to Paris in April to finalize the formula and also meet with the packaging designers. If all works out (including an investment), these may be out in the market this fall/winter. The perks should be delivered by the end of March. How exciting!
I can’t wait to smell Misia!
Just out of curiosity, what was the Perfume X Indiegogo campaign?
I’m wearing MPG Santal Noble today. It is warmish but very wet weather here in Houston today.
I have a question–I can’t keep up with the Tom Ford line and wonder if anyone has anything from the Private Selection ones they particularly would recommend? Or is it all just a bunch of hype? I used to think some were good but now there are just so many.
I liked both Shanghai Lily and Santal Blush, and Tobacco Vanille gets a lot of love though I don’t care for tobacco notes. I bought Shanghai Lily, but honestly, I find that there are other indie perfumers that I like more than TF. He does seem to be marketing for the masses with his latest offerings, and he is really expensive.
I’ve noticed that men seem to love Tobacco Vanille, and women seem to find it too sweet. (I’m in the latter camp.)
I thought Tobacco Vanille was okay but I like Tabac Rouge by Phaedon better for scent and price.
I also love Shanghai Lily but the rest of the line has never really jumped out at me. I’ve found myself wearing Jonquille de Nuit a lot, but it’s nothing that knocks my socks off. I just find it easy to wear day-to-day.
Happy National Fragrance Day! I was at Marshall’s today and bought a bottle of Marc Jacobs Bang to celebrate. I’d been so good this quarter and my resolve broke a bit. I like it, though. I like vetiver in the summer. I think it has good layering potential too.
Also the SOTD is Lolita Lempicka Eau de Minuit.
MJ Bang is a brilliant scent! I hate the bottle with a vengeance but the juice is seriously good.
Ohhhh, I love Bang! It’s a great vetiver. I will have to go check my Marshall’s to see if there is any there. I’d love a small bottle.
Spent part of the day reorganizing my perfume collection to make room for a couple of full bottles and two more on the way. Started off by house and turned into something entirely different. Think when the other two come, I will redo the whole thing.
SOTD is Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale, from a sample. Very pretty, possibly too pretty for me. Did get a rare “You smell good” from a relative earlier.
Have been sleeping really poorly and made at least two completely boneheaded mistakes this week, of the sort where five minutes later you think, “Why the hell did I do that?” May have to ban myself from computer usage, or decision-making, or getting out of bed.
Blame it on the eclipse/new moon/solar flares/equinox. 😉
I second that. Things have been pretty crazy and I’ve been feeling a little loony myself. Hopefully you can get a chance to relax!
I’m still blaming spring forward. Hate spring forward.
La Myrrhe………..
PSA: There was a very interesting segment on CBS Sunday Morning about the Met opera conductor creating perfumes in his spare time:

I’m still commando, and still in PJs, but drinking tea and watching basketball. Life is good. 😀
I’m still sticking to Amouage and today has been dedicated to the gorgeous Gold.
I went to the opera this afternoon and it was such a stunning performance, I loved it.
Amouage Gold for opera – well-chosen, austenfan!
Austenfan, what did you see?
Die Zauberflöte! And yes it was magical.
I really need to see it!
Rummaged into the depths of my perfume box to find my spring scents, over-doused in Nu yesterday. Found that I should have included CB I Hate Perfume Dandelion in my swap list :-$
Decanted some Piguet Gardenia for a swap… So I smell like a mixture of things. A mixture of things that aren’t getting paperwork done.
Question: The more I wear Mille et Une Roses, the more I smell peach in it. Neither peach nor any other fruit is listed in the notes – anyone else have this experience?
I haven’t yet, but I was planning on wearing it again so I will pay extra attention.
This has been an absolutely delightful weekend. Happy Spring Break to all of those enjoying it! I have a break from three jobs and school, and am enjoying it to the max. Brunch and Bloody Marys this morning, and lots of scents adventures.
Yesterday, I wore vintage Bandit on one wrist (WOW, just WOW). I had smelled the current version and it was just a little…screechy? But this is so luscious, and beautifully blended. It is a stunner and I’m in love.
On the other, I wore Dans Tes Bras, which is my newest love. It smells like…earthy mushrooms and violets. Wonderful for a spring day.
This morning, I wore Beige for brunch, came home, took a shower, and put on some Dauphine by Goest Perfumes. Both are delightful for our beautiful spring weather. Now I am happily planted on the couch watching Kiki’s Delivery Service. Spring break is off to such a great start!
Today I am wearing Neela Vermiere Trayee. I love this scent and have been wearing it all weekend. Last week I wore Mahur and Tauerville’s Rose Flash, and two weeks straight before that II wore Misia. I love all four scents and have been giving them all a workout.
