Another week is flying by (as is the morning...I'm running late). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale.
Reminder: this Friday, 20 March, we're doing Nouveau Niche...wear a perfume from a new (2010+) niche brand.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I am sampling 3 scents today. Very ambitious of me.
First one is Granada by memo-orange blossom is nice.
Next is french leather- its smells like a mainstream perfume I have smelled before but I can’t put my finger on it.
The last one is Sunshine by Amouage-when I first tested it-I thought is this Amouage or did they send me the wrong sample? The dry down is fantastic. I feel very sexy wearing it. Maybe FB worthy. Still need to give it some time. Journey Woman is still my fav.
I’ve been reading that Sunshine is not a typical Amouage, but more off the beaten track. They have made other fragrances that seemed very different from the mainstays though. I need to order a sample of it.
Worth testing out-I am loving the tobacco note
Let me know what you think
I’m waiting for my sample of Sunshine to arrive–maybe today!
Yay! Curious to know what you think! Do you wear any other Amouage scents?
Another Amouage for me as SOTD: Epic Woman. Most Amouages seem to get better as the day goes by. As does this one. I think I like Lyric and Ubar slightly better but Epic is very nice as well.
Agreed. The dry downs in most Amouages are wonderful.
SOTD is Hermes 24, Faubourg. Heaven in a bottle.
Enjoy the day of heaven 🙂
So far so good!
From my samples I wore Lubin Korrigan and my first thought was, I would buy a bottle of this RIGHT NOW. But it’s kind of front-loaded, because it’s not very interesting a few hours later. Still, that opening…
Clothing shopping in an Italian department store called Coin and stumbled across a collection of I Profumi di Firenze scents, not the whole line but a bunch of them, most in 12-mL sprays or perfume concentrates. If I’m in Florence I am going to have to buy THAT, obviously, so I got three: Limone di Sicilia, Florentina 24 Rosa e Fiore, and Costa Mediterranea. Apparently I was really near the actual store, which would presumably have the entire line, so I might go there tomorrow…
Perfume souvenirs are the BEST souvenirs! And in 12 mL sprays too 🙂
I’d love to have a sniff of the whole IPDF line! It’s nice they sell those little bottles too.
They’re really wee so they’re airline-friendly. The Limone is just insane, this EXPLOSION of citrus, and it’s a perfume concentrate so it’s 60% essential oil. I am definitely going to the actual shop today!
I want to know if you ate all the gelato!?
Eat all the gelato!! Lol, great advice! I love Firenze 🙂 I got to spend Easter and spring there a couple years ago, If you have already been to Grom, (the lines can be annoying) my favourites were Gelateria de’ Neri and Perchè No! Highly recommend visiting Piazzale Michelangelo hilltop square for the best panoramic views of the city, go at dawn for a beautiful experience 🙂
I did a bunch of research and everyone seemed to think that Gelateria dei Neri was the place to go, so we did, and it was heaven. Salted caramel omg! We’re going back today (Friday the 20th), our last day in Florence. Then we’re headed off, for a complete change of pace, to Berlin. No gelato there but I guess wursts and strudel?
I am wearing Phaedon Cendres de Thé which is fine up top but the laundry detergent musks in the drydown kill it for me–it is just bit too “fresh.” It needs some lapsong souchong and cardamom funk to give it some spine.
Sounds like I do not even need to try it!
Hope some perfumer is listening to you, Monkeytoe. Like Robin, I know I don’t even need to try it…
I’m trying Puredistance Opardu, which I was hoping would be a big beautiful tuberose but instead I’m getting mostly clean jasmine and feeling meh about it. Jasmine, be dirty or go home!
I’ll vote for that. So far have not loved anything from the brand.
I do really, really like M, but at those prices, might as well dig up vintage Egoiste. The florals haven’t really been my thing.
I thought it had lilacs and was more like Vacances. I wonder if the Jean Patou Vacances reissue will be as good as the original…
I am dying to know that too.
Bet it won’t. Bet it will still be good, though.
You’re probably right. I’m also very curious about Colony.
Oddly I didn’t get lilac from it. La Perfumerie Moderne (one of those nouveau niche lines) has a lilac that is VERY lilac.
I don’t remember it as a strong lilac. As I recall, I liked it but decided in the end that it was a bit muffled compared with my ideal for a Vacances replacement. I’d get it out to refresh my memory, but it’s too cold here today for a spring perfume.
Once again, in an effort to bring spring, I’m in something light. Lostmarc’h Ael-Mat. Does that count as post 2012 indie? Have to check.
The brand started in 2006, but hey.
Morning Ladies, SOTD is Bottega Veneta
Don’t forget the gentlemen 😉
And gentlemen! Apologies ; )
BV is wonderful stuff. I put just a tad of that on last night before bed to ward off the chill.
Good morning!! SOTD a is Dior Ambre Nuit. Very pretty on a crisp sunny chilly day.
Wow! I love Ambre Nuit. I’m on a trip, and stuck it in as one of the to go samples. I will probably drain the sample before I get home. I just want to roll in this stuff. Peppery, rosy goodness. I’m afraid the tiny dabber won’t last 😀
Also like this one. Smelling good:)
SOTD is Alien Sunessence EDT Legere. I like Alien, but this one not so much. Maybe its the vanilla.
I’ve been wanting to try the Alien Eau Extraordinaire. I think I got lucky with the Essence Absolu which I really enjoy. But I’m a little intimidated by the Alien line in general.
Shalimar to see my SO off at the airport this morning (I’m jealous he’s going someplace warm for the weekend, while we might get snow here). It’s one of the few scents of mine that he actively likes, so it’s become my “occasion” scent, even for minor occasions.
SO has great taste!
Black Cashmere while it is still cold here in NJ. Can we please go back to last week which had some over 50° days?
Trying MDCI Cuir Garamante from a generous sample given to me. It’s a very odd leather fragrance in that it doesn’t really smell much like leather. It’s more an afterthought. It’s well rounded, but I’m not sure it would be a go-to scent.
Ambre de Merveilles on a rainy day.
What a nice way to stay warm! You smell great 🙂
I’m wearing Orange Sanguine today. So pretty and so fleeting. I sprayed 4-5 times (from my decant so they were smallish sprays) and still could barely smell it after the first hour.
It must be the musks in the base. I adore the opening notes of Orange Sanguine but I can’t bear the drydown, which I find very overpowering.
The opening notes are incredible. But this isn’t one I need a full bottle of.
If you’re in the market for a fresh juicy orange, please try Guerlain AA Mandarine Basilic. I find it quite long-lasting. One of my summer go-tos, and also anytime I need a lift!
I agree with your comment on Mandarin Basilic. I have a generous decant from an NSTer.
SOTD: Perfumista Avenue.
Felt like I have neglected it for a long time so I am giving it some love.
Loving the rich plum & rose.
I’m wearing Mitsouko, but I had a funny–and too typical–experience earlier. Went to Nordstrom online to order some socks … and then strayed into “Fragrances.” Oops. My socks will be accompanied by an ounce of Modern Muse. I couldn’t resist the reviews.
Occupational hazard of the perfumista! 🙂
That *always* happens to me!!!
Since it is still puffer weather in NYC I’m going with my cozy fragrance, Coromandel.
Last night I was so frustrated with the cold that I sprayed with abandon Juste un rêve and inhaled the rest of the not tropical loveliness.
Juste un Reve is really lovely. If I had a bottle I would probably wear it a lot.
Great puffer fragrance, floragal! At this point I have a love/hate relationship with my puffer. I love that it keeps me warm in this insanely cold weather, but hate how it makes me look 20 pounds heavier than I really am!
So true! I tie that belt in the middle as tight as I can!!
I only have a sample of it, but Juste en Reve is my fav tropical fragrance that I’ve ever smelled. It is so sheer and I never feel like I’m just wearing some old school sun lotion type frag. It is very pretty.
Scent twins!!! I haven’t worn Coromandel all winter but today I sniffed that bottle and somehow it seemed perfect. So, I sprayed with abandon and it IS perfect!
I see Interparfums is purchasing Rochas from Proctor&Gamble. Perhaps not a bad thing for the fragrance line…….
I would think a very good thing. Can’t get worse, anyway.
I wish they would re-release Byzance!
SOTD is Green, Green and Green from a tiny bit left in a sample vial. I might want more… it’s a bit rough, but I can still smell it after 4 hours…
I almost wore Oeillet Bengale today, but went with Encre Noire instead.
Encre Noire is a good choice!
always a good choice – I notice the 3 of us like a lot of the same scents…
Indeed! Perhaps we could figure out who our consistent “scent twins” are and find new things to try that way.
🙂
I put Frapin Esprit de Fleurs on today. It’s still a little warmer than average where I am, so I felt like I needed a green floral.
Totally switching gears today, my scents are influenced by tonight’s classic film series’ presentation at our historic theater, the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night.” Owww! (as the song goes) You know you’re old when you’ve seen a ‘classic’ film the first time around! 🙂
SOTD is Molinard Les Orientaux Vanille Patchouli, nice for daytime with just enough patchouli to satisfy me, along with a caramelly vanilla and a bit of spice. SOTE for tonight’s movie will have to be an unrepentant patchouli (applied lightly, of course!), perhaps Fancy Nights? Something to ‘make me feel alright’ . . .
I have totally loved getting my kids hooked on the Beatles.
Fancy Nights is my fav patchouli oriental.
I slathered on some Nuxe oil and think it will do as my SOTMorning at least. I always forget how fragrant and nice it is. I was trying to use up a facial sunscreen that didn’t agree with me by using it on my arms yesterday and I’m all scaly and dry now. Think the rest will go in the garbage (it was a tiny tube and I used most of it anyway). Now that I’m a scaly armed, bumpy faced thing I guess I will put off the new driver license photo for another week.
Love the Nuxe oil. It has such a strong scent you just about don’t need a perfume with that one.
Hi everyone, hope your days are going well. I’m wearing Rose Privee, the new one that’s coming out soon from L’Artisan Parfumeur. I love it. It’s really easy to wear, sticks around and is a lovely rose.
I’m looking for a fresh rose–not an oriental or a patchouli rose. Maybe Rose Privee is it?!
Needed a fragrance this morning for a long meeting at my son’s school… it had to be sophisticated without smelling to “rich,” and also have some hipster street cred, AND also make me feel smart…. You know those tricky meetings where everyone is technically on a first name basis, but professional and unprofessional chicanery is just below the surface. . .
So I sniffed and sniffed and nothing was quite right until…tah dah! A “new niche” jump off the shelf and grabbed my arm–Trayee. It was/is perfect for the day. Thank you Neela and Bertrand!!
Oops. Meant to comment below! No connection with fresh rose!
But while I’m at it I would recommend you try Lumiere Noire by Kurkdjian… NOT a rose soliflore, but a bright and sparkly rose indeed.
Commando today… Got an email from my new boss with a ton of deliverables for today, so had to run out the door quickly… Yesterday was Oiellet de Bengale – I really do love it.
P.S. Guerlain’s Terracotta is being re-released. I ordered some on Nordstrom for 3/27 shipping last week – wondering if it was really going to ship. But…I just got a call from Bergdorf’s today inquiring if I was still interested because she could take my order. (I had talked to the SA last September…that’s impressive.)
Oh no, I thought I was off the hook with Terracotta. If it’s back, though…
Yes! Saw Terracotta this morning on a German site, probably Douglas.
Darn you. I managed to miss it last time and it’s triple points time at Nordstrom so I have no choice but to buy a bottle.
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay today. Hadn’t worn it in a while and forgot how nice and tart it is. Perfect for just about any weather.
Happy Thursday, All! These weeks are absolutely flying by. Too much to do!
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, love it’s fruity fresh musky vibe.
Sampling Xerjoff Irisss today. It’s lovely, but won’t bump Iris Silver Mist from my wardrobe. There’s something about the screechy top of ISM that calls me as it’s unlike anything else.
Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche, again for my plane ride. So nice. I will miss it this week, while I’m out of town. I ran out of time, packing and just thee random samples in a bag. The only one I know is there is Ambre Nuit. I think I have Atelier Cologne’s new Pomelo in there. I don’t remember when Atelier started. Somehow, I don’t think of them as niche any more–Sephora carries ’em. Hmm. Tomorrow’s challenge may be tough.
Atelier Cologne was founded in 2010 so it certainly counts. With snow in the forecast I have to rethink my choice!
SOTD is Guerlain Bois d’Armenie. I wanted something warm and interesting. B-B-b-rrrr. It is cold here and the snow is coming again.
LOL! I think it’s ironic that you’re wearing that one, because guess what I’m wearing?? Caron Montaigne. I love it! So we’re not scent twins, maybe scent switchies? 😉
I like that! Scent switchies. Witchy-switchies? I was thinking of Montaigne the other day b/c I dug out an old PdN tester for Odalisque during chypres week. I had not really ever given it a good chance with my nose. I’m smelling it, liking it, smelling it, looking for tons of oakmoss, but getting that, hey I’ve smelled this before kind of vibe. And then it hit me: It’s very similar to the middle and base of the Montaigne we/you have. The opening is different. But that super thick white floral jasmine-y and woods combo that you can wear like a coat – totally similar.
I’d own a FB of Odalisque if it wasn’t for the white musk drydown. 😛
I need to go look at the notes for Montaigne vs. Odalisque. Are they similar? I’m definitely a jasmine ho, which I guess is why I love this so much.
And speaking of “super thick white floral jasmine and woods” – are you a Samsara (especially the vintage with real sandalwood) fan? Funny we’ve never discussed that one.
I’m wearing Maria Candida Gentile Sideris. According to online information, the line began in 2009, but it didn’t surface on perfume blogs until 2012, and only became available in the U.S. in the last year or two, so I’m counting it as nouveau niche. 🙂
Sideris smells great, and its medium weight incense is very nice for this cool Unlocking weather.
I don’t seem to have many nouveau niche perfumes, and most of the ones I do have (like Ann Gerard, Ys Uzac and Mary Greenwell Plum) are too light for the current cool weather. Now, if I had gotten busy and kept up with Slumberhouse and Kerosene, I might have more options, but I was feeling new brand fatigue. So I think tomorrow’s poll will be useful in identifying the ones I’ve missed that are worth trying.
I hear you on the “new brand fatigue”! Me too! And those two are also on my very limited To Sniff list.
I may copy you on the brand although Noir Tropical is not cozy enough for snow.
Wearing one of my favorites, Plus que Jamais. Why, Guerlain, did you discontinue this beauty?
Today’s scent is Marni, over a muted rose and rosehip body oil. I love Marni but have found that it is so shy in the dry down that I would lose the rose. Layering it over the body oil has worked perfectly: it lasts all day, and carries a bit more depth.
Have you tried the Marni Rose?I liked it enough to go for a 100ml bottle.Lol
I haven’t yet, no. I’d like to, but they don’t carry it locally and I’ve tried to avoid ordering samples, for fear of getting carried away once I start 😉
Loving my Cuir d’Ange today. Have had a very satisfying perfume week so far!
Scent twins! And you smell great 🙂
Commando..really *hoping* I get my Misia sample soon…I was supposedly shipped a sample and never got it. So, having another sample sent to me. Hopefully, this one makes it.
I found this interview with Kilian Hennessy in his pied a terre, with a photo gallery and video. It’s interesting to see his perfume collection. And you don’t see a perfumer standing on his marble mantle piece every day.
http://www.lifestylemirror.com/cover/kilian-hennessy-inside-a-scions-fragrance-filled-world/
And he still is a very handsome guy!Did you spot that Original Golden-Rose vintage bottle of Diorissimo on the table?WANT!!:-))
YES – THAT Diorissimo bottle!
It’s an interesting collection – lots of classics: Guerlain, Dior, Caron and Chanel, but no Hermes, no Amouage. Old mainstream, like Obsession, but nothing very current.
It is interesting to see the perfume collection but the guy himself is so not interesting …
I wish he’d do another perfume that I liked as well as the original L’Oeuvre Noire collection.
SOTD is Silences. It’s just the right time of year for it.
I need to spend serious time with that.
Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. I’m loving this! I hope to get it for my birthday 🙂
Apart from Apres L’Ondee, the only fragrance ever to amke me tear up with joy,was this Guerlain classic.Any concentration, any vintage!!Lol!You smell GORGEOUS.
Be sure to drop hints…hehehe. I actually haven’t sniffed this one yet, lol.
Ironically, I got my Misia sample:). Something in this is medicinal or- I hate to say this and don’t normally-but bug repellent or something..sunscreen cream, idk something.. in this and I don’t like it. Bummer. I do like that it’s not sweet and it does have a good rose/violet powder thing going on..it’s more ‘mature’ than DdR and not really sweet like DdR. I am not huge on violet. Perhaps there is too much in this one for me. I do get that dirty, earthy, cold iris. Extra earth and dirt..perhaps has too much dirt in there for me, idk. Not loving it…maybe it takes a wear or two.
Aww schucks, that’s a pity!I really like the old-school feel of Misia!I found it a nice balance between the rose and violet, with a sudden blast of earthy iris.
I wore it last night for the first time. The first hour or so, there’s something sharp I didn’t care for, then it mellows and is quite lovely all the way down. I am a rose, and a violet, and a rose-violet lover, but I didn’t smell rose in this, rather violet – which was quite nice, not too sweet, – plus a rooty, earthy iris, which I didn’t care for as much. Yes, I found the iris rather cold, too, but then it’s Chanel, and I always find Chanel’s elegance a trifle detached and aloof. I like earthy, dirty, but ‘warm’ earthy, dirty. Still, I liked it, didn’t love it, will try it again. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as it softens and dries down.
I don’t get much rose either..mainly violet and a dirty iris..old school in a good way, yes. I just don’t think I am huge on violet or iris. But do like an iris or violet-rose combo. LR by Malle was nice but too sharp for my tastes. I don’t care for his take on rose. DdR is great..a bit too sweet though for me. But a great scent. I am really picky with iris..so far my likes are Bois d’Iris by TDC and maybe La Pausa…but where is the lasting power on that one? lol. The Prada is a good one..too sweet some for me. The Absolue has too much dirty iris in there for me. And really don’t care for Lutens ISM. Oh well. Other scents in the sea I suppose! LOL.
If you like a warmer iris, do check out that TDC scent…that is, if you don’t mind cardamom:).
-My bad! Coriander! I always mix those up lol. It adds warmth nonetheless.
Thanks for the recs. I like cardamom AND coriander.
It is official. I am having an olfactive nervous breakdown or my pod person is waiting to replace me. Burberry Brit Rhythm one day, Aerin Lauder Amber and Musk the next. What is going on? The ambroxen(sp) laden opening of the Lauder was swoon worthy says she who loves Yatagan and Papillon Anubis and Lust…..
Wearing Ramon Monegal’s Lovely Day. It’s pleasant, but nothing more.
I didn’t get much of any licorice in that one..I still only like Ambra di Luna..the rest really haven’t done a lot for me.
I don’t get any licorice, either. 🙁 I have tried only a few others in the RM line; the best for me so far has been Impossible Iris.
SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44
Perfect by itself or for layering. Today, I wore it solo and I am still basking it its incense vanilla goodness!
I need to sample more from them, I did like the rose 31 or whatever number it was.
To anyone finding themselves in terminal b in Detroit airport: 50% off cire trudon candles, Carner Barcelona, and Olfactive studio…. I already own my favorite or else I would be even more tempted!
Wowza – it’s almost worth a trip – fly in and fly out!
Wearing vintage Dune today, a favorite for cool and rainy days like today. I find the name of this perfume ironic; it never conjures images of sun, sand, and beach to me. I far prefer wearing it in the cooler – but not deepest winter – months. Still love it after all these years.
I was just looking at my Dune today and thnking the same thoughts! I recently put it in my rotation waiting for chilly, damp early spring days to wear it; it’s not a sun/sand/beach scent to me either. I love it, too.
Wearing a couple of spritzes too many of Ubar… Still radiating after 12 hours. 🙂
One can never wear too much Ubar!
