Our usual weekend open thread: talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the perfume you smelled on someone else recently, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Wearing Journey Woman today-its been my go to this winter.
Happy Holi to those who celebrate !
Anxiously waiting to test my sample of sunshine-today the sun is shining even though its freezing out.
Holi looks like such fun! A few years ago, when I was still online dating, one of the fellas I was chatting with was Indian. He sent me pictures from a local event, with everyone covered in big spatters of color! Really beautiful!
Ah! I met my husband online dating-he is Indian (but born and raised in Canada) I never thought I would date and marry someone Indian- I was never attracted to that type. But we met, dated, got married and now have a child -3 months tomorrow!
Yay! And congratulations! I met my current beau (the oft-referenced Mr. Spicebomb) online. *fingers crossed* but things seem to be moving in the right direction. . . 😀
I live in the land of Intel, Nike, and a good research hospital (OHSU), so whilst meeting folks, there were quite a few international engineers, etc., to cross my path! (And since I’m a science person myself, and a total dork, I tend to attract a certain type. :] )
AH! I am a science dork too! We have some things in common
I, too, am a science enthusiast (nature nerd, too) 🙂
Kindcrow, you infer a topic of MUCH discussion in my classes! What distinguishes a nerd, dork, geek, etc.? I suggest that nerds are people who keep spreadsheets for their hobbies, while my students insist that nerd implies social incompetence. To me, dork has more social implications, and geek suggests technology aptitudes. . .
Marjorie Rose, I agree with you that to me, dork has more social implications, and geek suggests technology aptitudes. I got these definitions from an on-line quiz (not the best source of information, I know 🙂 ) that I took a while ago:
-A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
-A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
-A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
I am a nature nerd because I am passionate about learning about nature. For example, I want to know the names, diets, sounds, and natural histories of the birds that I see. I suppose that would also make me a nature geek (sans any advanced technology aptitude) as well, but it lacks the alliterative quality of nature nerd 🙂
I am also an introvert with social anxiety, but I don’t call myself a dork (although others might 🙂 ).
Kind of makes paintball look pedestrian, doesn’t it?
😀
There was a story on NPR about widows celebrating Holi: http://www.npr.org/2015/03/06/390973373/for-india-s-widows-a-riot-of-color-an-act-of-liberation.
Nice piece, thanks for the link.
Wow! That is such a great article-those pictures are priceless!
Brilliant color, heartwarming story–what a gift on a cold, gray day.
Amazing photos – thanks for sharing!
Kindcrow, thanks for posting that piece. I enjoyed reading it.
It’s a little too early to choose my SOTD, (I’ll wait until post-workout and post-shower), but it will likely be Chanel No. 19, which I’ve been bathing in all week since its arrival! I’m so surprised! It *isn’t* the same as the little vintage sample I have, which is much more luminous and sparkling. However, it is equally beautifully green and yet somehow warm and creamy as it moves into the drydown. The most wonderful warmth eminates from the scent and hums along for hours after application. Very pleased with my purchase!
It has me wondering if this will be my “gateway” green scent. Mostly, I’ve found green scents too cold, but this one doesn’t strike me that way. Have other folks had this experience? What’s your gateway green scent? Are there others I should reconsider?
No 19 was my very first perfume and still a great love, so happy to see you ‘converted’ 🙂
If you are enjoying this, do try Jacomo Silences and Goutal’s Heure Exquise which have some similarities (though in my opinion, No. 19 stands alone)
^ Yep. LOVE Silences and enjoy HE as well as No. 19. I’ll agree that it is a cool green scent, and so are Silences and Heure Exquise – for some warm greenies, you can try PdN Le Temps d’une Fete* or Ralph Lauren Safari.
Some other greenies to try – AG Eau de Camille, Vent Vert, Byredo Green, Cristalle Eau Verte, Diptyque Eau de Lierre, EL Private Collection, Gucci Envy, Kenzo Parfum d’Ete, Miller Harris Fleur du Matin, Piguet Futur, Maison Martin Margiela Untitled, Miller et Bertaux Green Green Green and Green, TDC Un Parfum de Charmes et Feuilles, DSH Celadon…
🙂 But *nothing* is like No. 19.
* Oh. Meant to say that LTdF is getting hard to find. Which SUCKS.
Ugh. Not sure I want to find *another* hard-to-get fragrance that I love!
So, a quick weekend project to explore my options, huh? 😉
Mito, and Mito vde with some tuberose to warm it up. The green is so very green!
I just got a sample of Mito VdE today from a swap!
Hajusuuri, id love to hear your impressions of it. Im not a huge galbanum fan, but this made it straight to my top, maybe 5?
perthgirl! For you, I tried Mito VdE today 🙂
I did two dabber sample smears on my wrist and it is now 3 hours later. It was fruity-sweet when I first dabbed it on, a hit of galbanum (omnipresent) and a non-minty smelling coolness. My nose also detects a bubblegum-like smell, which I enjoy, similar to that of Tauer Sotto La Luna (non-indolic jasmine?). Overall, I like it and it is potentially FBW or large decant worth. I suspect that dabbing vs spraying makes a difference.
Yay! 🙂 im so glad you liked it! I went straight from dabber sample to fb- and for a $250 fb it MUST be true love! I love the bitter/sweet contrast, and i dont find spray or dab makes too much difference as its already a bit of a powerhouse from a dabber- spray just gives you MORE!! 🙂
I want to say that I gave away my sample of Silences–it was too too much back when I tried it. . . I wonder if my tastes have changed or if it’s just that No. 19 is special? Must dig through my samples and see if it’s still around. . .
It did take me a couple of tries, months apart, to come around to Silences. But you never know… I thought Mito, for example, was lovely but it just did not sing to me.
Last time I wore Silences it wore me and I had a awful headache . I haven’t given it another chance since. # largecollectionproblems.
Love 19 in both edt and edp forms, but the edt usually wins by a nose (hah!). My gateway green was Aliage, about a million years ago when I was in high school. Haven’t tried it recently so can’t opine about the current formulation, but I loved it way back when. Second Le Temps d’Une Fete as a warmer green, and Cristalle as an elegant green (edp is my fave, but edt is, of course, gorgeous as well).
I’ve seen Aliage in antique stores, but I don’t think I’ve tested the newer version. Would be interested to hear an educated opinion on how it’s held up!
Isn’t Aliage still available? I used to have it, back in the day, and would get it again.
I have newer Aliage and bought some older on ebay. The newer is more muted. Smells basically the same, but just doesn’t have the same edge.
I, too, loved Aliage ‘about a million years ago.’ I think it was the first perfume I ever bought for myself as a birthday treat. I remember wearing it every day for about a week, until my mom died suddenly after a very brief illness. I don’t remember much of that time, but I do remember I was (foolishly) wearing Aliage on my last trip to the hospital. Aliage remains my saddest perfume memory because I loved it so much but could never wear it again.
My gateway green was Annick Goutal Heure Exquise, then Guerlain Chamade, then on to No 19 edt (current), then on to Safari….. Now I love greens. And I do think that the current No 19 has it’s charm. It is much more green than the older. But I like them all now for different reasons. Once I learned to appreciate galbanum, it became easier to get into greens. And now I really enjoy vetivers too.
Which concentration are you wearing? I’ve always found No 19 EDT warm and sparkling, and a little creamy, yes, and I’ve worn it for 25 years and more. I just do not understand why people find it cold and aloof. The EDP I find more dominated by iris, so a bit cooler and more powdery.
I find the irisy opening to be “cool” in that iris way and galbanum can certainly be bracing, but you know the opening doesn’t last long. Mostly I find No 19 to be a linear fragrance that embodies the best smells of summer – even the warmer ones. Even the vintage No 19 extrait that I have gets increasingly warmer as the oakmoss base shows up, until it’s totally golden in that way that only good oakmoss can be. I can see why it’s perceived as stiff or back-boney. It is just so confident, but the vetiver drydown of the current edt makes me think of warm late summer sun warmed fields.
Both the EDT and the EDP of no. 19 just disappear on me in like 15 minutes. So strange! My favorite green is EL Private Collection. It blows everything else right out the water! 😀
Private Collection last hour and hours on me, it’s true. No 19 EDP lasts most of the day. EDT until after lunch, with heavy application. The real disappointment is the parfum, which disappears from my skin in under an hour. 🙁
Sorry about the parfum. The only place to buy the parfum did not have a tester, and given the way the EDT AND EDP perform on me, I didn’t think it worth taking the risk.
Hi Merlin,
I tried 19 today (bought at a flea market) and it was gone in five minutes. Those five minutes were lovely, but too bad it doesn’t last.
anngd, was it definitely the genuine no.19? Knock offs, according to some, have weaker longevity. That being said, I’v tried it numerous times at ‘reputable’ department stores and had the same effect. (I’v also bought several perfumes at a local flea market and I’m pretty confident about them being genuine, so it’s just a possibility…)
I don’t find green scents cold, but many of them seem less girlish and “perfumey” to me.
I tend to associate Iris scents with elegance and sophistication, and No. 19 is for me, a go to scent, for business occasions when I want to be quietly and subtly elegant.
This morning I’m testing Misia and color me impressed! I sometimes have troubles with violet but am loving it here. Need a little more time with it but so far it is looking like love.
Supposed to be getting a sample of that before too long…it actually should have arrived by now.:p Glad you are liking it:).
Hi Omega and Gi, where are you getting samples? Thanks!
Hi anngd. I was very lucky, went into Holt Renfrew just to smell it and they sent me home with a sample. That doesn’t happen to me very often!
I’m impressed too. Not wildly original, but well done.
Is there a review coming? 😉
Hopefully Tues or Weds!
😉 Yeah!
I am wearing Misia too, it was instant love for me and got the last bottle in the store, the SA said it was sold in one day. I am not sure if it was true but I am very happy with it, I find it unique, long lasting, not overpowering but present.
I agree with you Hera…unique, long lasting, not overpowering but present. A concise and true description.
Does anyone know how Misia compares to Dior’s New Look 1947?
I haven’t tried them, but it appears that Misia does not contain any white flowers, while New Look 1947 has at least three. I know that they rarely provide an entire list of notes, but I’ve read several reviews of Misia, and no one mentions white flowers. I’ve read several reviews of New Look 1947, and white flowers are mentioned in some of them.
thanks for that kindcrow. I guess I always just mentally group NL1947 in the Putain/Lipstick Rose category I never checked beyond that…
I loved it so much I bought the large bottle! A special treat to me.
Do you mean the 6.8 oz bottle??
I have a question regarding sampling. Do you have a method?
I ask that because, although my sample stash might seem small to some, I am nonetheless overwhelm by the number of samples I haven’t yet tried or made up my mind about. I usually get samples in the hope of finding “the perfect sandalwood”, or such, but I end up trying only about a third of what I get, and sometimes forgetting about stuff altogether. So I am not necessarily closer to figuring out which bottles should make the cut in my curated collection (which means some fragrance families are underrepresented). On the other hand, I don’t want perfume to ever become a chore, so I am tempted to just wear what I feel like wearing on any given day… Help! (First world problem, I know! 😉 )
My sampling has changed a lot over the years. When I was new to all this, I was very methodical, kept careful notes, and only wore one scent at a time, to be sure to give each sample thoughtful attention. I did this until it wore me out.
After a long break from sampling, I am now finding myself doing it differently. I might put a dab of a scent on each knuckle, giving a quick sniff to as many as a dozen scents at a time. Over an hour or so, I weed out 90% of the scents as not interesting enough for further consideration. Those go into the give-away box. The rest go into a “retest” bowl, and occasionally, when I feel like that I have the time and energy to consider a scent properly, I try one or two in a manner similar to my old way.
I have found that narrowing down the options in this manner keeps me from never sampling out of feeling overwhelmed.
Ah, you are my new hero(ine)! That sounds like a terrific method.
Sounds like you found a good way to weed out quickly what you won’t like! I’m always too reluctant about giving samples away (what if I would have grown on me with one more wearing! … I know, that’s how one becomes a hoarder!), but that would solve my “being overwhelmed” problem. Thanks for the input!
I am a strong partisan of wearing what you feel like wearing! My feeling really is perfume should be about joy, pleasure, other pleasant things; there’s really no moral obligation to try All The Perfumes before enjoying any one perfume! In the extent to which sampling is fun, sample! In the extent to which you’d rather wear things you already know you like, by all means, do that!
I do sympathize with the difficulty of choosing which bottle to commit to (now being the owner of any number of bottles I probably did not need in 100ml…)–my rec for solving that problem is to buy 5 or 10ml decants of the ones you’re leaning toward, so that you have plenty to wear for the time being, and if you finish the decant, well you know you use it regularly enough to justify a bottle!
You are right, perfume should be (and is) fun!
I am not as advanced as Marjorie Rose 🙂 but here’s what I do…
I track my samples via spreadsheet, and record notes on what I thought of them… otherwise I wouldn’t remember everything I’d tried. (And even with the spreadsheet, I have still re-ordered or re-swapped for something I’d already tested… more than once. sigh)
I have a truly absurd number of samples waiting to be tested. If I stare at the whole pile I don’t know where to start… so to keep it manageable I’ll decide “this week I’m testing the Ateliers” or something like that… and I put those in a small box. And just grab from that box til it’s empty. Sure, sometimes I get distracted (squirrel!) but that’s ok 🙂 The main thing is that it keeps the decision space for the day limited. My brain can’t cope with too many choices first thing in the morning
My other main technique for motoring thru samples is: if it’s not working for me, I scrub it off. Usually I try to give a scent at least 2 hours to develop, but if it’s really not me (and most aren’t), there’s no need to keep trying. Alcohol wipe + soap and water usually does the trick. Except for the absolute worst scents, those always have ridiculous tenacity (of course)
This entire post describes me to a T! The only thing I would add is that makeup remover is helpful for those really tenacious scrubbers.
Ah yes, very advanced. . . 😉
I like the idea of a weekly theme. I would help me be more focused on finding perfumes that fill a particular gap in my collection. Thanks for the tip! (For example, I was thinking of participating to the Monday Mail to get help to find my wedding scent, but I guess I should start by more thoroughly testing the samples I already have!)
I always recommend doing the Mon Mail. If a scent doesn’t grab me within the first hour then it’s out. I do keep handwritten testing notes and I test hundreds of scents per year on skin. Sometimes I want novelty and sometimes I want known factors and that determines what I wear but there’s no real system to my testing
I keep a list in Evernote, and date samples as I add to the list. I do not make myself test in order — that would be a chore — but it does help me at least know what’s been hanging around a long time. And if something’s been on the list for months, it’s at least a sign that maybe you can’t be bothered and you might as well give it away.
I am guessing that with the blog, you must do a lot of testing and need to keep it organize somehow. I’ll check out Evernote. Thanks!
Golly, what is your goal, to become a curator or experts on perfume? In that case, I guess the systems the other folk suggested make a lot of sense.
If your goal is to pre-test for final purchase, it might make sense to wear the same sample for a few days in a row to test whether you love it more or get tired of it?
By the way, for scents which seem uninteresting after the first sniff, here are a couple of suggestions,
(use the sample vial) as an extra treat when wrapping or giving presents; most of our friends and family do not share our exacting standards for a scent and would be glad to have a few drops of something nice smelling;
(2) For those scents which you deem a little too much like nice laundry detergent, use as indicated; a small drop in the hand wash can be very nice indeed.
(3) If the scent for which you do not care for, is a Celeb scent, give the vial to a fan. In fact, many of the celeb scents least liked by perfumanistas are licensed by celebs adored by teen and preteens. Give the tiny vial to a Belieber (do I have the term right) a Little Monster, (etc).
Just arrived to get my hair done this morning. My stylist immediately said to me, “You smell so good. What are you wearing? ” I told her it was “Chloé “. I always get so many compliments on it whenever I wear it. It is quickly becoming one of my go-to fragrances.
Nice!
Today I wore Eau Sauvage Parfum. It was perfectly acceptable!
It always is.
Testing Ateliers today (ha! bet you never guessed that!) Sous le Toit de Paris, at the moment. Ozone + violet…. meh
That’s a house that I’ve decided just isn’t for me. Meh describes them pretty universally. (Although I recognize that it gets plenty of love!)
Yeah, so far, pretty much ‘meh’. Though I did like Gold Leather.
Have you tried Rendez-Vous? Unfortunately, it’s only sold as an extremely expensive set at Neiman’s. Wish they wouldn’t do that…
No, haven’t even heard of that one. All mine was sampled by mail–bought one of their sample sets a while back. What’s it like?
The sample set from Atelier is one of my favorites, not because I liked them all, but because I learned a lot about what I like and don’t like while testing them.
I love citrus and aromatic fragrances, so those were easy to enjoy, especially Cedrat Enivrant. Woods, vanilla, and vetiver are also done well by Atelier.
I learned I like leather scents on other people. Gold Leather smells great on a friend, but it’s a nope for me. Same deal with most amber fragrances and scents with immortelle. I also learned I can enjoy patchouli thanks to Patchouli Mistral.
In the end I liked or loved half (8 out of 16) of the Atelier scents I tested. Worth it!
Donna Karan Chaos today. I’m gonna have to swap away my beloved Chanel 5 edp. It simply refuses to live on my skin longer than a couple hours. Annoying. Its not a fragrance I ever want to be without (though sometimes it is temperamental with me) Seeing as the vintage EDC last for hours I think I’ll look into finding more of the vintage formulations.
Vintage No. 5 is always worth it, and usually pretty easy to find. (And I don’t care much for the edp, there’s something in there that bugs me, don’t know what.)
Vintage No 5s in any version are pretty easy to obtain at a good price on ebay.
So interesting that you posted this as I sampled No 5 just a couple days ago and thought perhaps my sample had gone bad (I’ve had it maybe a year) because I couldn’t smell it after an hour! The next day I sampled No 5 Eau Premiere and loved it as well, and it lasted much longer. I actually haven’t stopped thinking of Eau Premiere since and have a birthday coming up…!
Do it!! ; )
And the enabler pin goes to…allgirlmafia!
Lol. I’m awlful, I know!
I have exactly the same issue with No 5 EDP. I like it, especially for a prominent note of vanilla that I don’t pick up in other forms, but it never lasts more than a hour. It works as a comfort fragrance between shower and bed, but that’s about all. (I’ve managed to get through quite a bit that way.)
So the EDT is the main form I use. Extrait, whether vintage or modern, is lovely but the sillage is poor, i find. If you can afford it, the body cream is terrific. its quite strong even on its own.
I have quite a few full bottles/partial bottles for our next swap. I may just try my luck there in getting a decant/bottle of vintage edc, edt, parfum….something!
I have a bunch of the different formulations of No 5 both current and vintage. They all have their strenghts and weaknesses. My fav overall has now emerged as the edt, and for that I only have the current. I can only imagine how nice the vintage smelled, and I’m trying to get my hands on some. I like to layer different formulas together. But generally I don’t have too much trouble with the lasting power, maybe b/c for most of the forumlas the drydown is my favorite part, so I’m waiting for it to show up. I also don’t mind reapplying b/c it’s fun. But I do agree that the body cream is very potent. I wish I had stocked up on some older jars. I’m tired of Chanel keep tweaking No 5 in a downgrade mode rather than trying to maintain the standard.
Not fully awake yet. I’m still working on my first pot of tea, but I will probably be wearing Hommage à l’Homme Voyageur today. We’ll see…
Yesterday I have received a wonderful package from the Netherlands and inside I found a couple of samples of Puredistance WHITE in a beatiful lacquered box.
I’m testing the fragrance today and it’s so exquisite, luxurious and happy that I’m easilly falling for it right now.
I really like all of them (from I through Black). It’s hard to find a brand that doesn’t have at least one dud. Of course, it’s also rare for a brand to avoid the pitfall of launching too many perfumes in rapid succession. I’ll look forward to your review and try to sample White.
After reading the reviews for Aftelier Palimsest, where it mentions one of the notes is the Australian fire tree, or Christmas tree. It mentions that the resin is sweet and is a food source for the Aboriginals.
So, in the name of science, I went a hunting, inspecting my local fire tree collection. Only one had the resin all over it, and I broke a bit off and tried it. Nearly broke my tooth! Lol. I looked for some soft resin but it was all hard, and it wasnt sweet but salty and flavourless. It wasnt a very exciting discovery at all 🙁 But hey, after a diet of grubs and lizards, maybe it IS nice and sweet? 😕
Perspective is everything. 🙂
I appreciate your sense of exploration and adventure!
🙂 It was too tempting a challenge to ignore 😉 I still dont get what it does as a frangrance ingredient though- the whole tree including the flowers totally lacked any hint of fragrance to me..
Maybe it depends on the season.
Well, Aboriginal people’say diet was much healthier than ours is now, and much less sweet. And look what happened to them once they started having to go into missions and stations for food because local sources of food were gone. Terrible health problems. Anyway, good on you for trying!
I’m retesting Field Notes From Paris this morning. First try was love, but on the second try I got a serious bubble gum note that turned me off completely. I set the sample aside for a month or so, and braved a third test – love once again (I either missed the bubble gum phase or it’s one of those hit-or-miss mood things). Guess I’d better order a bigger decant rather than spring for a FB right away, just in case. And I have birthday money burning a hole in my virtual pocket that really wants to turn into another pretty bottle! Rats!
I love Field Notes. It’s not an everyday perfume for me but on the days it works, it really works.
I’ve gone backs and forth on Field Notes. At first I loved it and came very close to purchasing a FB, but then the tabacco made it somewhat masculine to me and I didn’t like it.
Now I’m back to like but not love, and wear on occasion.
Does anyone know if Coco Chanel comes in splash bottle in edt or edp? I couldn’t find it here in Canada but I was wondering if it is available elsewhere. Thanks
Back in the day when it was first released in the 80s Coco came in a splash edt. I know b/c my first bottle was a splash! Now, there is no version of Coco that comes in splash except, technically, the extrait in the classic stoppered bottle.
Thank you. I so much prefer the splash bottles, maybe I would try to get one vintage.
They are fairly hard to come by on ebay. You could consider getting a spray bottle of Coco and then decanting it into a boston brown bottle if you can’t get one of the Coco splash. Good luck!
I’m sampling En Voyage Zelda after someone mentioned it yesterday. The opening hooked me right away with a spicy magnolia, but then a bitter green joined in. That seems to be ebbing now, but it’s still staying a bit too vegetal for my tastes.
Interesting. I read some raving positive reviews of this.
Just received a lavish spring catalog from Bloomingdale’s. It’s gorgeously photographed & assembled, and I think this is the 1st time I’ve received anything like this from them. There’s a very cool leather case for Hermes atomizers on p 112. Love the orange one, but at $245 for an empty case, will pass it by.
Somehow, Barney’s has become convinced that I’m worthy of their Christmas catalog each year. I feel a bit ashamed of how much fun it is to look at $12,000 necklaces and handbags!
Barney’s “GWP” bag program starts today or tomorrow. I have found this to be among the best such programs.
I was there yesterday to preshop for it, and learned that they are now selling Malle travel vials individually for about $50.00 each, yes this is alot for the small amount, but it is not bad if you really just want a scent for special occasions.
The buy-in price for the gift bag is about a hundred dollars, not cheap, but if you have been coveting a Full Bottle of a niche, or a an SL Lutens exclusive, this at least mitigates the cost.
Oh, and for those fume heads with money and money to spare (as if any exist), the Byredo hand bags were really cool. I was coveting one before I even connected them in my mind to the perfume line.
And for fume heads, who really, really have way too much money and are under a mandate from some bizzarre aunt’s trust to spend as much as possible of frivolous items, Barney’s had a really great Purple Rain collection by Killian. It can only be bought in the form a lavish scent. I asked the sale’s clerk if the price was equal to a mortgage payment.
She told me the price; it is was about a year’s mortgage payment or rent. She did spay my hand. Evoked the song beautifully, one of the only grapefruit scents I ever liked. Really nice. However, I think I will stick to paying for shelter instead.
Have to agree with you about the Barneys GWP. I usually don’t bother with GWPs & typically don’t have much luck with the included samples. But Barneys comes in a really nice cosmetics bag & the samples are good (less run-of-the-mill). I might spring for a Malle travel spray this yr. And I’ll probably never cave, but I really covet that Lutens lip palette!
While I love the idea of individual FM travel sprays, each one ends up being a lot more than if one bought the 3-travel spray set. For example, Carnal Flower = $70 for one, whereas the 3-spray set = $175. I’ll probably end up with one Carnal Flower to swap away. I’m also thinking of Une Fleur de Cassie with one to swap away.
The minimum purchase to get the gift bag is $200 which is $50 lower than last year…I wonder why? 😉
Ambre des Merveilles today since the weather is getting warmer but isn’t there yet
Love that one – you smell fabulous!
An interesting morning. Thinking I didn’t have clients till 3:30, I sprayed myself liberally with Ambra del Nepal. Then an email came at 11:15 from a client saying she was going to be about 15 minutes late for her 11AM appointment. There was an 11AM scheduled in my book that I had overlooked. With no time to wash off the perfume, I ran to my office and got there just in time – she was a little later than 15 minutes. Thankfully, AdN smells a lot like amber oil and is pretty quiet. Glad I didn’t reach for l’elephant this morning! So all is well.
Yesterday I moved on to the books part of the KonMari method. I was able to discard about eight large boxes of books. It was interesting to note which books “sparked joy” and therefore were kept. They were mainly art books and books about massage therapy – surprisingly or maybe not so surprisingly I was easily able to let go of both art and professional books that were too rigidly systems oriented (I don’t give a fig for systems).
I love Ambra del Nepal! It is wonderful and I’m looking to get a full sized bottle pretty soon. I would love if one of my masseuses smelled like that!
AdPis wonderful and nice that it’s available in small bottles. I think mine is 11ml? And it really has good longevity for such a quiet scent. After reading your comment I think I should wear it to work more often!
I’m laughing at my comment about not caring for systems while doing the mofo of organizing systems.
😛
Started the day with Unknown Pleasures by Kerosene. Went out to breakfast and the guy in the booth behind me started telling his wife it smelled like someone was cutting wood with a power saw. She told him he was nuts and it was the smell of breakfast. He insisted it smelled like sweet, fresh cut wood. I’m pretty sure he was smelling me. Lol. When I quietly told my hubby what I was laughing at he agreed and said it was most definitely me. I hadn’t thought of it as a woody perfume but I could see, or should I say, smell it today. Thankfully the guy liked the smell.
Now I’m sampling a bit of Maitresse. I remember really like this when I first tried it but today I’m underwhelmed.
Great story, Poodle! Although I worry a bit about the woman who thinks breakfast smells like fresh cut wood…
In her defense I don’t think I was wafting that far. I actually sprayed lightly this morning because, well it’s breakfast.
Funny!! Great story.
Classic! Thanks for the chuckle.
Now I need to go get myself some Unknown Pleasures….
haha 🙂 I love it when non-perfumistas describe what they’re smelling. sometimes when I wore leathery scents, friends would be “do you have a new handbag?” or “you smell like sofa!” LoL
I began with Diptyque Essences Insensees for the morning – so pretty and gentle to wake up. But now I am wearing Chanel Bois des Iles edt.
Want to try it–the last time I tried to get a sample at Nordstrom, the SA was flummoxed by the bulb atomizer, and wound up giving me other samps instead. That’s the mimosa one, right?
That bulb!! Countless times I’ve tried and bulb does not work. Stupid.
It is a pretty scent, however.
The bulb twist locks so that the bottle won’t evaporate. It does need a few squeezes to prime it, but I can still get it out. I do think, however, that it would be very hard to spray it into a regular sample vial. It would work better if a person had one of thoes small dram bottles with a larger mouth. But it is a really, truly lovely mimosa fragrance, and the bottle is gorgeous.
Hello NST!I started the day off in Iris Silver Mist,SOTE though is Chanel Misia. The local shop did not have a tester available,so based on reviews it was a total blind buy.AND I LOVE IT.Just enough rooty Iris, lovely violet and rose combo! The drydown reminds of Chamade;similar but still different.Successful blind buy in other words.Lol
Very interesting that you say the drydown reminds you of Chamade. Hmmmm…..
Looking forward to this site’s review of Chanel’s Misia. It sounds lovely and I’m very curious.
I lost my Sunshine yesterday. Sunshine was a cat, a male orange tabby with honey gold eyes. I took him to the vet yesterday, and for the first time, I left him in their care, because I was told they needed to xray his foot, which he had been favoring. At three p.m. I got a call from the vet to say that they found him in his cage, having trouble breathing, and that he had died. What do I do without my Sunny?
Awww, poor sweet Sunny. I am sorry for your loss : (
Oh, I am so, so sorry! What a terrible shock. Did the vet even tell you what went wrong? It is so hard to lose a beloved pet, even when he or she has been ailing and you’ve had time to prepare yourself a bit.
The vet offered to do a necropsy, and I sid yes. As I said I took him in for a sore foot but the vet said that he had lost a pound and a half of weight. I have been giving my cats more canned food and grain free kibble type food and I thought his weight loss was due to that. He was the biggest, at almost 15 lbs. I just hope and pray it wasn’t something I could have prevented.
Please don’t feel any guilty no matter what the vet finds. I too would have thought any weight loss was do to the change of food, and the fact the the vet (a trained professional) has to do a necropsy to determine what has happened indicates that you could have had no idea what was going on. I wonder if Sunshine had some bad reaction to a sedative that they might have administered to do the X-ray. One of my cats had to have x-rays done and needed to be heavily sedated.
Sounds like the limp may have been secondary to something else going on. Don’t blame yourself at all. Cats are really good at concealing illness and with the diet change the weight loss wouldn’t have seemed odd to anyone. I agree with jirish too about the sedation. It’s possible that he had a reaction to a sedative if they used one although if all they were x-raying was his foot I think they could have held him for that. Whatever the case, do not blame yourself.
Oh that is awful. The loss of a beloved pet is never easy!Hugs.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I have an old dog so I know how awful it must be to have to do without your favourite animal so suddenly.
I’m so sorry about your loss. What a terrible shock.
That’s just awful, PriscillaE. You must be feeling so sad. Sending sympathy and hugs your way.
I am so sorry for your loss. It’s terrible that our furry pets don’t last as long as we do.
Oh no, I am so sorry.
I am sorry to hear about your cat.
Oh no! What a horrible shock. Just awful. I am so sorry for your loss.
Priscilla, I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Sunshine. Hopefully, you will find another kitten who will bring you some sunshine.
We lost our family cat in a similar manner. Brought him to the vet for treatment and when i went to pick him up was told he had died. Worse bit was not being able to say goodbye. So sorry for your loss!
Oh my god that’s awful. I’m so, so sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss, PriscillaE! Take care of yourself.
Oh, Priscilla, I am so sorry about Sunshine – what a beautiful name for a beautiful creature. It’s so difficult losing a pet under even the best of circumstances but so much worse in what you’ve experienced. Many years ago I left our young, seemingly healthy, dog at the vet to be neutered and boarded for a couple of days while we took a very short trip. He died suddenly, and after a miserable guilt-laden 7-hour drive home we learned that he had had an enlarged heart which caused his passing. It took a long time to get over that one. I hope you can take comfort in the wonderful life – and love – you gave him. You will always have Sunshine, in your heart.
I’m so sorry to hear about this. Losing a pet is a difficult experience, especially when it happens so suddenly. Be compassionate to yourself.
I’m so sorry for your loss. One of my favorite (cat) bloggers says cats / other pets cross the rainbow bridge when they pass and are now happily frolicking with their friends.
Priscilla, I am so sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry to hear about Sunny. Sending you virtual hugs. I can’t imagine losing my big guy that suddenly.
I’m so sorry… I have four cats and each is precious. It is so hard to lose them; I’ve been through it myself. So hard.
I’m so so sorry…
Im so sorry to read about Sunshine- that’s truly very sad news. How sad not to get to say goodbye, but im sure he was very loved, and he will take all your love with him. X
So sorry for your loss. So hard to lose a favorite furry. Thinking of you.
I am so sorry, what a terrible shock to go in for a routine procedure and have your baby pass away like that. I hope the vet’s necropsy will reveal what was wrong with him, as it sounds like he may have been ill. Do not feel guilty, cats are good at hiding how they feel. Hugs to you as you grieve his loss.
I am wearing Cuir Mauresque, one of my winter favorites, and hoping I won’t be able to wear it for much longer. Spring has to come soon, right? Eventually?
Mine too! It almost makes a long-ish winter worthwhile – so yummy.
Whee, it’s the weekend – wearing Bendelirious…
My SOTD started out to be only La Panthère as I’m still only wearing perfumes by female perfumers, but I visited a perfume shop with a friend and with one thing and another, I’m now covered with umpteen other scents.
It sounds like too much fun! You’ll have to let us know what you liked best.
You know, I do not know. I tried some Armani Privé’s, and Tom Ford’s Fleur de Chine. Problem is I got muddled remembering what had been sprayed where, so I didn’t reach any reliable conclusion!
That has happened to me too! You think you’ll remember, but then you don’t. Well its all fun anyway.
I haven’t seen anyone mention Wrappings, the occasional Clinique reformulated oldie. Is it just too much? I’ve loved it since the late ’80s or ’90s but wear it sparingly and infrequently. It reminds me of the West in summer–dry grass–but how would you describe it?
I bought a partial bottle last year on ebay. It’s very unusual. I assume it’s meant to smell of Christmas trees, but you’re right – it could be grasses and resinous brush – sage and juniper, for example. There’s also something fruity or citrusy in there, and an incense effect. I like it better on paper than on my skin.
I have and love Wrappings – it’s the scent I take with me on camping trips and one of the few I might wear both in the summer and winter. I live in the Midwest and travel East but rarely West, so I can’t compare it as you do. To me, it’s always clean, cool, and crisp, the scent of a pine-forested mountain. I use only the tiniest spritz and have had my bottle a long time. The soap, which I don’t think is available anymore, was extraordinary, especially after a day spent hiking. Some of the best showers I’ve ever had, wish I could find it again!
To me it’s very piney. I’d be happier if I could detect other dry smells, like grass, herbs or earth, but mostly what I get is pine. I don’t care for it but plan to try it when the weather cools down here.
I *still* haven’t tried Wrappings, which is a shame because I have reason to believe I’d like it. Sigh.
I was just wondering something:Blue Grass…what are people’s thoughts about this unusual fragrance? To me it’s like nothing else I’ve ever smelled! The lady sitting next to me on the train to Johannesburg today was wearing it!And I loved the smell on her!!Quite interesting and very distinctive, again:surprisingly unusual!Immediately recognisable, and I found myseld drawn to the shades of blue it seems to convey!I also found it has lovers and Haters in equal measure; So any thoughts,NST? be honest!Would love to hear from both lovers and haters of the fume.after today:I want it!!lol.
I’ve never tried it, but it’s a carnation frag (I love carnation in perfume), so I would think that it’s been tamed/ruined by reformulation. They have vintage stuff on ebay at reasonable prices, though.
I did smell a great Carnation note,so maybe it was a vintage bottle?I did not ask unfortunately!
I have a very, very old nearly full bottle of Blue Grass foaming bath gel, in box, that used to belong to my granny. It was always in her bathroom when I was a little girl, and my mom snagged the bottle for me years ago when they sold their house. It still has a smell, but it is mostly lavender. I don’t know if there is anything else that’s supposed to be there. I’ve never smelled the actual fragrance.
Are you all speaking of Elizabeth Arden’s Blue Grass from many moons ago?
Just wondering, because I used to love it and wear it often. However, I have not thought about it in a long time. So many good perfumes…so little time.
Big problem:soooo amny fumes sooo little time!!
It used to be nice – lavender and carnation – and my grandmother wore it for years, but the version I smelled in Macy’s a few years ago was almost not there.
I agree, Blue Grass smells like nothing else! Another old favorite of mine but not worn very often, I enjoy it on a warm late spring day or a cool early summer day. The sun must be shining, the sky blue, and the grass green before I can wear it. Strong stuff – aldehydes and lavender and spice, I don’t get too much carnation – less is definitely more with this one and you must like powder, my bottle is probably 10 years old and still smells great. The distinctive long-lasting drydown is my favorite part of this scent. Blue Grass always reminds me of trips through the Kentucky horse country, gently rolling very green terrain and low white fences.
It did remind me of days out in the countryside as well, yes!Thank you everyone for the inputs!Going to try and hunt down a vintage bottle!
Not sure I’v ever smelled this – but now I’m going to look out for it!
I think Dischem might have it,but obviously not the vintage stuff from the 80/90’s.Not sure which version she was wearing, but it sure smelled interesting.
Lovely restful day today just taking it easy for a change.
As soon as the husband headed out for the day I went crazy with the Coromandel. So love this one!
Isn’t it heavenly when you can spend a day doing absolutely nothing? And then smelling fabulous also. It like putting the cherry on top of a sundae. Glad you had a good day!
Bvlgari Omnia pre-spin, great all around, acceptable for any circumstance kind of perfume. Love it but what is up with the spritzer?!? It’s a hot dribbling mess!
Post-spin Amouage Fate Woman from a small and beloved decant.
I am wafting some gorgeousness as I scrub le toilet! 😉
There is nothing like wearing something fabulous to do something mundane.
Like several others here, I’m looking forward to a review of Misia on NST. It sounds like an interesting turn of fragrant events for Chanel.
So far I’ve heard Misia pronounced as
“Mee-see-uh”
“Mee-zee-uh”
“Miss-ee-uh” and
“Mizz-ee-uh”
But I like to say
“Meesh-uh”
which sounds adorable and cozy to my ears.
What say YOU? 😉
Let’s hope Bela adds it to her indispensable website:
http://fragnameoftheday.blogspot.com/
Oh, yes, that would be fabulous! I could listen to her voice all day.
According to someone on Fragrantica and Google Translator, “misia” means teddy bear in Polish and it is pronounced Meesh-uh. According to Wikipedia, Misa Sert was of Polish descent.
Misia Sert (I left an “i” out of her name).
Well, maybe it’s pronounced “Meesh-ah.” Still sounds adorable and cozy … like a teddy bear 🙂
Yes, “Meesh-ah,” as pronounced by an American of Polish heritage. 🙂
Yay for “Meesh-uh.” 🙂
Or “Meesh-ah.” That sounds pretty.
I’m going completely overboard thinking about this. Here is a video (from Rachel’s English) showing the ways in which “ah” and “uh” are slightly different in American English.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJPv2mJJwHQ
So . . . for the pronunciation of a Polish name . . . used by a French perfumer . . . uhhh . . . ahhh . . . hmmm . . . we need Bela and her spoken French. Or perhaps a video interview with Olivier Polge would be the answer.
Those Rachel’s English videos look interesting.
It appears that the French do pronounce her name differently. At 1:40 and 3:30 in the French news(?) video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygtSmT_Pe4E, the person uses her name a lot. In French it sounds kind of like “ME-see-yah,” with the “see” spoken very quickly.
I will still think of the perfume as “Meesh-ah,” because I like the sound and the meaning (teddy bear!) and to honor her Polish heritage.
Has anyone tried CB I Hate Perfume – White Ginger?
No, but I adore real white ginger flowers. I need to try this!
I decided against doing the whole refinishing an old TV stand for my perfume collection and ordered shelves from Amazon. Thet can’t get here fast enough because I had a perfume accident. I knocked over one of my teardrop bottles of late ’70’s early ’80’s Mitsouko. The bottle was half full but I lost a third of it.
Oh no! 🙁 But at least you managed to salvage some…
How awful! For a long time I wouldn’t bring out my stoppered old Guerlains when my daughter was very small and in super grabby phase b/c I was always so nervous she’d pull it out of my hands. I do have a process for when I get out my very old Guerlains when I put them on just to make sure I don’t drop them – I sit down at a table and make sure all the parts are out in front of me and everything is in the clear. So anal, but you know, those old Guerlains I have are very special and irreplaceable as far as I’m concerned.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
This is the first wearing of my latest FB purchase (enabler’s pin to Marjorie Rose, Mals and AnnS). LOVE! it was not long -lasting but then again, I only used two spritzes. The dry down reminds me a lot of AG Heure Exquise and Vanille Exquise but it seems that the only common note among these 3 is sandalwood and it doesn’t quite smell like sandalwood to me!
Has anyone heard updates on Perfume X, a modern vintage perfume that Barbara Herman was co-developing with Antoine Lie? She did an Indiegogo campaign that met its goal in July 2014. The last entry on her blog (Yesterday’s Perfume) was in August 2014.
I love No 19 EdT but I’m not sure if I even tried the modern EdP. I tried some vintage EdP and though it was nice I preferred EdT. Now I’m curious 🙂
We can remedy this quite easily 🙂
Congrats on your No. 19 EDP purchase! No. 19 in all its formulations is my HG fragrance. 🙂
Ditto that! I’ve not smelled the edp, but there is no reason for me to believe I wouldn’t like it! No 19 is just awesome stuff.
I’m glad you approve 🙂 And I guess it doesn’t have to be vintage to be really good. That said, I have vintage No. 19 parfum extrait and it is awsome!
Congrats on your FB of No 19 edp! It’s one frag that I would recommend to anyone.
Thank you…you were one of the enabler’s with your description of the various formulations of No. 19!
I was wondering about Perfume X too. I had kind of forgotten about it until recently. I contributed to the Indiegogo campaign, so whenever it’s done, I should be getting 5ml of it.
Today my SOTD is Cartier Baiser Vole EDT, which I’ve decided is too sweet for me. Must try the extrait de parfum stat.
Off work now. Showered, ate dinner, watching Broner-Molina fight with the man. New SOTD is Lipstick Rose. A little sweeter tonight than usual…
He choses to a watching a boxing match; you accompany him wearing and “Lipstick Rose”
Boy, you seem like a couple from a Cagney movie, the fight fan and the glamorous, sexy dame. I just hope George Raft doesn’t break up the date with a machine gun.
Fight fan and sexy dame indeed. No machine guns tho and very little danger ; )
I wore Santal Carmin for running around today–it’s nice, and I like that the sandalwood is not too overwhelming. Won’t buy a full bottle though.
Tonight post-shower I’m in Jardin Sur Le Nil, which brings a welcome whiff of spring.
Mary got me to try a sample of Santal Carmin. Liked it a lot…
Took yesterday off and went on a whim with friends to a matinee of Marigold II followed by an Indian dinner. When we left the restaurant we caught a whiff of orange blossoms. First of the season! I think that qualifies as a perfect day. I had dusted off my Rive Gauche. Wore it again today because it made me so happy.
Sounds like a great day!!
Hi everyone! I was given my first ‘Attar’ recently: it comes in a wooden box which contains quite an ornate glass bottle which has 5ms of perfume oil. The name is Hayati, which is apparently an Arabic endearment meaning ‘My life’. The box says The Chitpore, which is the company that makes it, and is named after what the street used to be called (in Calcutta). It was bought in the Calcutta airport.
I think it smells quite jasmine-y but would love to know the actual notes. There is a picture over here – though this one is not Hayati, but Jannatus Firdaus, basically same box and bottle, but different scent in the range:
https://www.facebook.com/531963796923602/photos/a.532004110252904.1073741828.531963796923602/613942132059101/
Anyone know anything?
This might be it:
http://www.lalaessentialoils.com/jannet-el-firdaus.html
http://www.biswabangla.in/pdf/attar_booklet.pdf
This is the company that does yours, I guess. Judging from a quick google search, this is a popular type of attar blend made by a few companies. The only notes I found are listed in the first link, which is a little quirky as it states that it blends well with chloroform. 🙂
Lol! Chlorofom…hmm… The first site does list Hyati as a blend, but the notes (as such) are kind of vague. It says,
‘Hayati attar is a type of perfume that is extracted from the flowers herbs, spices, or barks in to base oil such as sandalwood oil.’
I did see the second site too. It gives some general info but nothing about what differentiates the four different scents they stock.
It’s a mystery! 😉
The first link notes jasmine, cinnamon and lotus.
Mysteries are more fun anway, imho!
Holly, the first link goes to a scent called Jannet-el-firdaus. This is ALSO made by The Chitpore, but the one I was given is called Hayati. So I typed Hayati into the search bar of Lalaessentialoils and they did have it. But the quote I gave above is what they have under the heading ‘constituents’. Kind of vague for this particular one!
Just thought I’d share with you my experience of opening my first bell jar from SL Paris…here in the UK we can order online (oh YesSsSsS!!) So post delivered a large black box……cut the tape and inside was thick layers of black foam and underneath was a lot of layers of black tissue paper. Nestling in the tissue was a small black embossed carrier bag and inside that was a black envelope with a card which said “Choosing to be yourself is not without perils. Thankyou for taking the risk with us” There were also 7 little boxes of samples – 3 five ml and 4 one ml and at the bottom of this sumptuous feast of tissue and boxes was my de Profoundis bell jar! It is now on the kitchen table – unopened – waiting to be unveiled….Did I mention the work black??
After that enticing preview, we need a video of the official ‘unveiling’ . . .
Its strange but I’ve not yet opened it! I have to look at it for a few more days yet! I’ve tried two of the samples – Fleurs d’Oranger….which I absolutely fell in love with – and Feminite du Bois… which I was disappointed in – too sweet/woody for me. I tried de Profoundis as a sample which I had to order from the US and fell totally in love with it and have come to conclusion that for ME its the sharper floral SL’s that suit me best and not the sweet/spicy ones. As for Iris Silver Mist and Sarrasins – oh my oh my – they will eventually be second and third bell jars respectively…..lots of time to save! But I finally “get” SL……he is a Master Perfumer – who makes the most sublime fragrances that are above all shape shifters……changing from person to person and time with time.
Great description! I was right there with you. Thanks for sharing.
That’s great, enjoy your new perfume. How do you like it? could you describe?. I am planning a trip to Paris in June and I would like to get a bell jar, trying to decide which one .
De Profoundis is exquisite – different – opens on my skin with a sharply floral/green/cool note and then deepens and softens to the most beautiful dry-down. Has great sillage and great lasting power on my skin – similar to the vintage Chanel 19 and uplifts the spirit like no other:))
Oh, wow! Thanks for sharing. I had a similar but slightly less exotic experience the two times I ordered from Ormonde Jayne.
Serge knows how to impress!
Since it’s International Women’s Day today and austenfan and Hiddles say there’s nothing objectionable in Fracas, I’ve dabbed it on today. All I get is big floral notes, which are beyond gorgeous. Am I missing something?
People who can’t stand tuberose can’t stand Fracas. Sounds like you are not one of them! Happy for you! It’s not a complicated scent, just, ummm, focused.
It’s warmed up enough that my younger son is outside in short sleeves, scraping away what’s left of Thursday’s ice on the driveway. SOTD is Le Temps d’une Fete. It’s always one of those scents that make me smile when I smell it, instantaneously and involuntarily. Just INSTANT joy.
I could probably get rid of a whoooole lot of my perfume collection by sticking solely to the ones that give me such instant unthinking joy… it’s just that sometimes I want something other than simple joy. (Strength. Warmth. Elegance. Sexiness.)
Don’t think about what might not be there b/c as soon as you get rid of it, you’ll wish you had it. 😉
Scent twins, and yes yes YES (“I’ll have what SHE’S having”)! I’m sitting in a post-shower cloud of LTDF right now and loving it!
It’s full on summer here today so I went with a totally full on summer fragrance to celebrate the warm sunshine!
SOTD Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coco Figue = Summer in a bottle!
Today is my last tribute to International Women’s Week. I’m wearing Bvlgari Black. It’s great and I wish I could wear more perfume in one day; so much fragrance, so little time.
Wearing Tauer’s Noontide Petals. Like it a lot – is that sharp top note Patchouli? If so, first one I’ve really liked.
Didn’t completely blow the women’s perfume week – spent half the week in Urura’s Tokyo Cafe. Then switched to Opus 1, then to Fate. I need a FB of Fate. It makes me happy.
Have a wonderful weekend all, and thanks for sharing your experiences. I mostly lurk, but look forward to reading your escapades.
Hi Ann!
Just read your wonderful reply to my email, thank you!So nice to reconnect! And to realise that yes,my life is busy, but Ann’s is even worse!!Lol!Working on a package for you.Misia included…if you reeeeally want a sample!Lol!xo
Today is my birthday and I’m sampling Dzongkha, and feeling quite blissful about it! Another one for my full bottle list, which now includes Scent of Hope, Bois d’Iris, Séville à l’Aube, Debut, Black Flower Mexican Vanilla and now this, as well as decants of Attrape Coeur and Spirituese Double Vanilla, as long as those can be had! I think I will stop now. What is the common denominator of this list, if there is one beyond these all smell really good to me…
Happy Birthday meredifay! There are so many Pisces (including moi) NSTers . I have to try my sample of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla…I bet I’ll like it too. I have never tried Attrape Coeur nor the Debut but if you like them, I probably will as well.
Hi, hajusuuri! BFMV is a very kind vanilla scent to my nose. I wish I had not smelled Attrape Coeur, because it really seems like the enbodiment of what perfume can be, and now I will be comparing everything I smell to it. Debut is great- an LOTV that lasts more than 3 hours on me, with Linden! I expect I will wear that a lot when the weather warms up. I will be so I interested to hear what you think of all of these. Pisces and perfume go together. When is your BD?
Happy birthday!
Thank you!
Hoppy Birthday from a fellow Piscean!
Thank you!
Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is a lovely vanilla and is very reasonably priced.
Dame Perfumes also has a new one–Desert Rose, which is also a lovely rose in the category of Lipstick Rose.
Filomena, I love the BFMV as well. I purchased the 8ml travel size and am making some great headway. I love the option to choose this size as it is just perfect for on the go or for anyone who wants to try a different type of vanilla and doesn’t want to make a huge commitment by acquiring another FB of perfume. Plus the hand written Thank You is a wonderful touch and the samples that came with it were generous.
I’m not a rose lover but I may try the new one you mentioned because it seems Dame Perfumery doesn’t do “typical” and offers a new way of experiencing conventional notes.
Misia had been compared with Lipstick Rose and since you own a big honking bottle of Misia and perhaps also know how Lipstick Rose smells, would you say the Desert Rose is more Misia-like or more Lipstick Rose-like? I am asking because I don’t like Lipstick Rose, but yet, when I smelled Misia from a tester strip, I was impressed. My aversion to Lipstick Rose was also from a tester strip and judging by my reaction to it, it will never touch skin.
Lipstick rose to my nose, reminds me more of the texture of lipstick than the actual smell, you know?Misia has that note, but more like what the lipstick tastes like.I don’t wear lipstick myself(being a man and all…lol),but I HAVE played dress-up with Mom’s make-up so I know the smell/texture of at least 40 shades of red.Lol.
I started off in Prada Infusion d’Iris but could hardly smell it, so have now switched to Micallef Rose Extreme.
I looked up the Micallef Rose Extreme. It sounds so pretty!
It was a yoga day so just did some patchouli and lavender EO mixed with almond oil and a couple of squirts of Pino Silvestre.
I need to try Pino Silvestre. They have cute little minis/travel sizes at http://www.emporioitaliano.com/, along with a ton of Italian soaps, shower gels, and perfumes that I must resist purchasing 🙂
