Indie niche line CB I Hate Perfume has launched M6 Do Not Ask Me Why, the latest in the Metamorphosis series and #406 in the general collection:
An interpretation of the smell of opium smoke. heady and hypnotic with a distinctive floral note wafting seductively over a deep dry slightly spicy smoke. [...]
Why would an artist choose so destructive a medium to enable such visions no matter how fabulous or sublime? Why is a poet compelled to write or an artist to create? Cocteau himself best answered that question in the subtitle of his final work:
Do not ask me why.
The smell of opium smoke is apparently hauntingly beautiful. I have heard and read many descriptions which have long fascinated me and I have at last decided to interpret my own vision of what that scent may be like. How accurate can my interpretation be? Is it true to its source?
Perhaps best to say "Do not ask me..."
CB I Hate Perfume M6 Do Not Ask Me Why is available now for pre-order at the brand website, in 30 or 100 ml Water Perfume; 2 or 10 ml Perfume Absolute.

Following yesterday’s discussion about blind buys, I’m strangely compelled to order this even though I have absolutely no idea what this could possibly smell like (do not ask me w… oh). Smoky and spicy is such a great cold weather combination.
It does sound perfect for winter! If you order it do come back and tell us if it’s wonderful. Not a cheap blind buy though…
I couldn’t help myself and ended up ordering the trial size of the perfume absolute. It’s unusual and unfortunately, apparently above my pay grade to understand/describe what I’m smelling. Slightly floral at the beginning without being floral, chemical without being unpleasant, briefly a little overripe… Not smoky the way I normally encounter smokiness (which thankfully means no meat/bbq smell, which is how smoky fragrances often read to me). I can’t stop smelling my wrist and there’s something familiar that I can’t place (paint? markers?). All that is to say that I can imagine loving this scent. I’ll use it up easily.
Thank you so much for the report!! Sounds very much worth trying.
Now I’d really love to smell opium smoke…
Made me curious too!
