Our usual weekend open thread: talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the fragrance you wish hadn't been discontinued, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I’m wearing Eau Sauvage after debating between it an vintage Dune. Two very different approaches to summer.
You’d smell great either way!
Tragic discontinuation: Lubin Idole EDT. Devastating.
I was also sad to read about the discontinuation of the EDT. I liked it precisely because of that slightly unusual, autumnal-yet-transparent character.
This one had been on my sample list for a while but alas, I never did try it. Is it still available as an “emergency blind buy” or is it totally sold out? Is the edp still available at least and would anyone explain the difference between the two? Boozy/ambery/leather/vanilla are some of my favorite fragrance categories and I know Idole was thought of very highly in those groups.
First the 50ml PdN bottles are going (still have to pick up some Kiss Me Tender) and now this? Apparently I’ll need to reshuffle my budget a bit.
It’s pretty much sold out anywhere–occasionally a very marked-up bottle will appear on Ebay but other than that… For what it’s worth, the EDP’s also a great fragrance, and actually may more fit your preferences as it has the warmth and depth typically associated with those kinds of scents–the EDT has those notes, but as Abyss says, it’s done in a really sheer way. Relatedly, some people find the EDT too fleeting, and prefer the oomph of the EDP. Def worth trying! I’ve got a big decant, and I do like it. I just gravitate toward lighter stuff in general, so I really appreciate the way the EDT was light but still had so much complexity.
Thanks. I will try the edp then so as not to fall in love with another something impossible to find or prohibitively expensive. I’ve got enough of that going on already. 😉
Wise choice!
My SOTD is one of my absolute favourites: Youth Dew by Estee Lauder.
I received 2 compliments about it today from young 20-something individuals. It makes me happy knowing that some younger people still appreciate classic fragrances 🙂 (I belong to that age group too btw. I know how mentioning the use of Youth Dew kind of immediately puts me into the “mature” sector 😛 )
I have loved this fragrance ever since I was a young teenager. Now a decade later it is still on the very top of my list.
Please tell me I am not the only one loving such power-houses.
I have this constant fear that less people are supporting it and soon in the near future it will be discontinued.
Oh the horror!
Estee Lauder has done an amazing job of keeping their old-school scents in production. I’d be shocked if they axed Youth Dew. But am also surprised they haven’t done more flankers…
I bought mine only a few years ago, in my early 30’s, and the young SA literally recoiled in horror when I said I liked it! I do still really like it, but when I went to bed that night I sprayed some on my sheets and my poor old cat who slept on my bed vomited 3 times during the night (on my bed of course) so I worry that my current cat might hate it that much too! Lol
Cat critics. I’m lousy with them.
^ This made me laugh.
Ditto!
My cats just watch me apply whatever I’m wearing that day, turn their backs and walk away. I consider that their blessing. It’s the sneezing followed by the disdainful look (happens with Atelier Orange Sanguine most often) that makes me feel so bad I’ll apply that one in the bathroom with the door shut. 😉
While I’m still trying to get into Youth Dew, I absolutely love old school Opium, Obsession and Poison. So much so that I’ve put vintage-ish Opium on my must buy list.
Perhaps it’s because I’m mostly burned out on clean, sweet and pretty unless I want something easy and uncomplicated or maybe it’s just a phase, but I’ve been totally into sillage monsters lately.
I’m 50, and every time I rebuy Youth Dew, the SA kinda recoils. It’s not like I’m asking for Tabu. (Which I like). Since YD is my usual “perfume I wear to bed” I go thru it pretty fast. And now my cats smell a bit like Youth Dew.
I’ve been living at mom’s for a few months, and she knows I’m getting ready for bed when she smells YD. I typically don’t wear it during the day. I think it doesn’t match the florida heat very well. But since I start a new job next month in Alaska, I think it will get some daytime rotation.
You see a lot of Youth Dew gift sets at Xmas and that to me is always an encouraging sign of the popularity of a fragrance. Same with Aromatics Elixir.
Big fan of Youth Dew bath powder and the AE soap is too glorious for words. I believe they offer the soap in the holiday gift set and only as a single. I wish they would do a gift box of three.
Aromatics Elixir is one of my fave perfumes hands down. I loved it so much I bought 2 bottles of the Perfumer’s Reserve. It is just amazing and now I’m really curious about that soap. Must find a good gift set so I can layer the fabulousness.
They don’t skimp with the fragrance in the soap! It seemed a tad drier. So beautiful. Turns your shower into a cathedral. I wasn’t lucky enough to get that special brown bottle, but found the locket choker on Ebay England. Very happy with that.
I love it too. I recently acquired vintage versions of Youth Dew in Cologne and Parfum strength—utterly gorgeous. The older version seems plush, and smooth and round compared to the more spiritely newer formulas. I even layer any form of Youth Dew with a vintage bottle of Youth Dew lotion. I find this powerhouse much easier to wear than Shalimar. The amber and incense dry down is really lovely.
Off topic, but did you guys see that Australian Perfume Junkies has a discount code for 50% off the new edition of Fragrances of the World? ( http://australianperfumejunkies.com/2014/08/30/michael-edwards-interview/ )
With shipping, the price still comes to $145US tho, which in grad student dollars is a very expensive book! (Or maybe just, very expensive in anybody’s dollars.) Anyone have any thoughts on this? I’m sure I would love it but given the number of new releases every year, and the increasing amount of information available on internet, maybe I don’t strictly need the book? Or maybe I do 🙂
You know what it is, right? Lists of perfumes in each fragrance family, that’s it…
It’s perfect for what it’s designed for, which is for SAs to help people find other scents they might like based on what they already wear.
So if you need it, you need it, but I do think most perfumistas don’t need to know the fragrance family for every scent, or, frankly, after they have some experience, can probably figure it out themselves.
Or another way to put it, just so I’m clear — I don’t think that’s how most perfumistas go about finding scents they might like -> by fragrance family. But did not mean to discourage you from buying it!
Ah, thanks Robin–I understood it was a reference text but not precisely what info it contained. Yeah, I would be curious to see that but probably would not get $145 of mileage out of checking fragrance families!
I don’t know how it is in Australia, but sometimes here in the U.S. you can find a copy of it sitting out in the fragrance department. I know I saw one in Nordstrom in Houston. If you can find a copy somewhere, maybe you can look through it enough to decide whether or not it is something you need for yourself.
I’ve seen it here in Aus in a few perfume stores. It’s nothing I’d care to add to my library, unless I wanted a record of all the perfumes available in 2014.
Is ‘Fruitchouli’ a legit category yet? I’m curious 😉
Oh! Wow I will keep an eye out, thanks!
Should also have added — to my mind, if you’re going to buy an expensive perfume book, the one I think every perfumista should own is Perfume Legends (also Michael Edwards).
Ooh, ok! Duly noted!
Must look into that. My favourite expensive perfume book by far is the Richard Stamelman one: Perfume:
A Cultural History of Fragrance from 1750 to the Present.
Oh, that’s a good one too, very different from the Perfume Legends.
CM, if you’re really curious you can find older editions on ebay or Abe Books (probably Amazon too) for a lot less. Granted, they wouldn’t contain the latest releases. I’ve got a couple–2007 & 2012, I think–and they’re fun to look at, esp on the rare occasion when I like something outside of my usual comfort zone!
You might want to check with your public library, and if they don’t have it you can try a request to order it.
I did buy the 2011 edition. It’s a good resource, but like Robin,I feel you might reconsider. It’s like a dictionary, with a couple of pictures, but not many. There are no interesting stories or facts, nor any photos of the bottles.Still,a good resource should you be looking for a clinical approach to comparing fragrances,in their respective families.
Have you tried his Fragrance Finder? http://www.fragrance-editions.com/fatest/index2.asp?id=2139&type=F
It’s a lot of fun, and free.
Thanks for this! What fun!
Hi everyone! Scent of the moment is Caudalie Huile Divin, still trying to decide what to wear to my cousin’s wedding this afternoon. (Lys Med or DK Gold probably. Or Azemour les Orangers. Or Rose Anonyme. Umm…)
Question: is there any good sniffing or perfume shopping in Indianapolis? I’ve never been but will be there for work in a couple weeks.
melissa,
The best place to go I’ve found is the Fashion Mall at Keystone — Nordstrom and Saks, as well as Lush, L’Occitane, and some other mall-type stores — and that’s about it!
When I’m in Indy I’m visiting family, and I usually only have an afternoon free, so I haven’t done in-depth research, beyond getting almost nothing in a typical Google search. Fortunately that mall has had enough to be worth a trip.
Good luck! Be sure to have a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich while you’re there, if that’s your kind of thing. =:o)
Today, I’m using the last of my tiny sample of Amouage Homage. It is so delicate and lovely. I wanted to buy a bottle last year but couldn’t justify paying that much for a perfume. I recently decided to go for it, then found out it isn’t available anymore. Heartbreak. Now that I know I can’t have it, I want it even more. 🙁
I know that was devastating news! I hope it wasn’t really because Amouage finally buckled under IFRA pressure. I’d hoped that Oman was far enough away to play by their own rules.
Have a great long weekend everyone!
I am eyeing a three piece L’Artisan coffret right now. It includes 15 ml bottles of Timbuktu, Merchant Loop, and Fou d’Absinthe. I love Timbuktu but I haven’t tried the other two. Does anyone know what year this set is from? It’s on a few websites but I’d be ordering it from Fragrancehut.
I’m not sure about the year but I bought that set, from Fragrancenet, and am super happy with it, for what that’s worth!
Thanks for the reply. How are you liking the Eau Rose? I came close to snagging a bottle blind on Friday (Diptique was on Hautelook again) but thankfully I resisted. The L’Artisan coffret as a partially sighted buy make a lot more sense.
Oh, your lead on Eau Rose was just the best tip, I’ve been enjoying it so much! Just a delight for summer. Thank you! Are you in the U.S.? I’ll send you some to try–I think that’s in the official perfume rulebook, the enabler gets a percentage 😉 Email me at catherineh789 at–death to spambots!–gmail.
I’m actually in Canada but thanks for the offer.
I’m pretty sure it’s the ‘men’s’ 2012 Christmas coffret. I have it too, from Fragrancenet. It was super cheap and perfect sizes! 🙂
Thanks. 15 ml really is a great size isn’t it? I saw in yesterday’s poll that Hermes is now offering 4×15 sets of their regular lineup.
Happy Holiday Weekend to the US folks and Happy Weekend to everyone else!
This morning I wore BPAL’s “Mouse’s Sad and Long Tale” which consists of vanilla, sweet pea and sandalwood oil. I love wearing these to spin class for two reasons- 1) they stay close to the body and I don’t have to worry about offending the spinner next to me. 2) the more I heat up and sweat, the more I can smell the oils rising up. Lovely!
Now post cool down and shower and I am wearing Corsica Furiosa from my recent sample splurge. I am liking this one more and more and I think I see a decant in my near future!
Now for a dumb question- do Chanel counters carry all their perfumes or do you have to go to a “flagship” store? Can you get testers by contacting them via a Chanel website? There are quite a few I would like to sample, but no point in doing so if the fragrance I fall in love with is just not attainable in the US. I don’t live in an area known for its shopping or perfumes, unfortunately.
Thanks and have a smelly day 😉
The Exclusifs are only available in their flagship stores, but the dept store counters should have ‘most’ other selections.
I say most because in (my half of) Australia, Chanel doesn’t sell Egoiste, only Egoiste Platinum, and no5 is the only parfum we have. We’re apparently good enough for a Chanel boutique with the exclusifs, but only the 200ml at $350 each 🙁 .. Actually most brands don’t sell their parfum options here at all!
OMG- who would want 200ml? especially if you have to sell your first born to afford it? I sure hope they come in a more sensible size or I am not even going to bother.
Sounds like you live in Hooterville just like me. All I see is No 5, Chance, and Miss Dior- none of which I care for.
Same thing here in Brazil. No Shalimar at all, not even the EdT, and the Chanel situation ain´t any better, with crazy prices and little options.
GASP! No Shalimar?! That’s sacrilegious! How do you get a hold of some? Do you order online? or are there all kinds of restrictions for mailing perfumes in Brazil?
A Shalimar girl here gotta have a scientific career and travel abroad, lol.
And yes, sacrilegious is the right word.
I would have bought 200ml of Rue Cambon if I could have afforded it. I’m nearly through my 75ml. I’ve stopped wearing it so I can hold onto it longer.
That is Impressive! I tip my hat to you- serious RESPECT!
Deva! Many department stores and Sephora carry “mainstream” Chanel such as No5 (although not the extrait), Coco Madmoiselle, Chance. Some “better” departmenf stores like Saks, Bergdorf, Nordtrom have Chanel boutiques that carry the Les Exclusifs. These better stores have testers of these except for the extrait. The only standalone Chanel boutique I know that has testers of some of the extraits is the one in Boston (Boylston St.). You can also order saamples from decant sites like Surrender to Chance.
I am not affiliated with any of these companies, just a serial perfume shopper 🙂
Oh, and once a month over at Perfume Posse, there’s a Perfume Fairy Godmother post where you can request perfume samples from the posse community – this is a great way to acquire samples specially if you don’t want to pay for samples and/or don’t have any perfumes to swap.
Thanks for the info- it is definitely the Les Exclusifs I am interested in. We do have a NM and a Nordstrom fairly close, but I get the feeling both stores are not “fully stocked” in the fragrance department as they are located in Hooterville, USA.
I have seen the Fairy Godmother, but to tell you the truth, I don’t feel comfortable asking her for fragrances that are on the more expensive end of the spectrum. Plus, there are so many I don’t have access to and want to try, I can never narrow my choices down to one or two. But that’s my issue!
Thanks for your response and I will make a trip to NM or Nordstrom maybe this weekend and ask specifically. I have never seen any testers on the counter and just assumed they didn’t carry anything other than No 5 and Chance, etc.
Deva–don’t live anywhere near Seattle, but the Seattle Nordstrom does carry Les Exlusifs and they’re happy to take phone orders. If you have a Nordtrom account, I’d have no qualms about calling & asking for samples either. Triple points days are coming up….
I already have Cuir Beluga on reserve 😉
I DO have a Nordstrom account- its one of those debit account cards- Can I call them and request samples? I am no where near Seattle either, although I have visited and thought it beautiful- wonder if that will get me anywhere 😉
I called our “local” Hooterville NM and Nordstrom today and they have nothing. The SA at the Chanel counter who took my call didn’t even know how I could even TRY to get any….oh boy
Sometimes Nordstroms or Neiman Marcus will have a sales rep from the cosmetic company on hand for major beauty event days with a greater selection of scents. In addition, they may be able to order an exclusif for you if it is not in stock. (That of course assumes you know you want it).
The Exclusifs are sold on the Chanel website-once you find a sample that you love you can order from there.
You can also try calling Saks, Neimans, Bergdorfs and see if you can get a sample or how to order. I noticed sometimes with these department stores they do not have the Exclusifs on their website-but I know that have them at the store. So, depending on where you live you can try.
Good luck narrowing it down to one to purchase. I love the Exclusifs line. Beige, Eau de Cologne, Bel Respiro I have bottles of.
Its my mission this weekend to try to track something down. I am going to put on my assertive “I know what I’m doing” cap and “consult” a sales associate at NM and take it from there. Hope I don’t get injured by her haughtiness though…
Seriously, do check on the perfume fairy godmother next week. Perfume folk are extremely generous and it’s fun to get packages. It is usually the first Tues of the month
I will keep it in mind. Thanks 🙂
Hmm. I think what we need next is Fairy Mule. Perfumistas who live where Chanel, Lutens etc deliver who can forward parcels on to fragrant wastelands like here… 🙂
Only selected Saks, NM, Nordstrom have the Les Exclusifs and I have never seen them on the websites.
Oh geez- well I’m pretty sure the NM and Nordstrom nearest me are not “selected” locations but I’m gonna give it whirl, just for the heck of it 🙂
I’m in the greater Los Angeles area, and it’s hit and miss at the dept. stores near me. No. 19, but not Cristalle, for example. (And Shalimar, but not Mitsouko.)
A couple of months ago I was in a (Walnut Creek, CA) Neiman Marcus and the 2 oz spray of Cristalle edt was $115; across the street at Nordstrom’s the same bottle was $75. But I just checked out both stores’ websites and online NM is selling the Cristalle edt for $70. Curiouser and curiouser!
As my part of the world slips into autumn I am finding myself in a bit of a difficult position with what I have come to regard as several of my favorite fall scents…they have become associated with a relationship started last fall which came to a strikingly terrible end in the spring (other person fell into a self-destructive spiral the like of which I have never seen before). When I smell these now they so strikingly evoke everything that happened last fall that it’s distracting! The question I face is whether to power through and try to build new associations or gracefully retire them and go in search of a few new ones to get me through the time of falling leaves and shorter days…
I’d get a new scent or two. Since scent is tied to emotional memory you will probably keep getting distracted until the intensity fades. Maybe revisit in a year or two
Oh that’s tough. I hope you’re happier now even though the upcoming fall might be difficult. I agree with thegoddessrena that you should find a bottle or two that makes you happy, wear those to combat the memories of last fall and tuck away the bottles you associate with the difficult break up. Maybe in a year or two when you smell them again, you’ll be happy knowing how strong you are to have gotten through it and they will smell like strength and determination rather than loss. Hope this helps and hugs.
Another vote for Gracefully Retire. This sounds like the type of experience you do not need to power through. Feeling a little lousy but not enough to stay home from work? Power through, sure.
But you deserve to move forward from that unpleasant ending earlier this year. Which sounds like it was tough and disappointing at the very least.
I’d say put them away for a year or two. If you store them properly they should still be OK. I’ve had the occasion to want to avoid fragrances b/c of bad memories. If you really loved the fragrance to begin with, you can always retrain your brain/nose when you are ready. Sometimes you never get over a smell, but perhaps you can if you are patient.
Ditto!
Very sorry for your experience. I know from my own experiences that the perfume memory lasts forever. With me the pain and loss I associated with certain fragrances slowly turned with time into regret. I could never retrieve them from those sad feelings, so I’m all about buying new perfumes and finding new loves.
I tried BV Knot yesterday and not only is that bottle more beautiful in person, but the fragrance was gorgeous. I think it will appeal to people like me who miss the elegance that came naturally to the older scents, yet it is in every way current and luxurious. I want a fb. Now.
I also tried SL L’incendiere. At first I thought Uncle Serge was foisting another incense offering on us. There is something in there though that really grabbed me. Like I short circuited someone else’s sense memory. Very profound and still lingering this morning. For $600 a bottle I have no choice but to snap out of it.
CANT WAIT to try Knot!
Yay!
What did Knot smell like to you? Give us a mini-review!! I loved BV and the BV eau Legere…. so I’m wondering what’s what about Knot!
For someone who is one BIG opinion I am not confident I can articulate well what I loved about it. I think it is the composition that impressed me most. The SA, and mind you I was in a BV boutique, was so pushy and yammering on about how she hoped it wasn’t to fruity for me. I personally like a little quiet when I sample; my senses aren’t always collaborators. Well, there is citrus at first, but I never describe citrus as fruity. It felt alive and feminine, but tasteful. I have read that it has a clean laundry smell, but I think that says more about a limited point of view. There is nothing false or artificial here..
The middle notes are floral. This was the part that that seemed current to me. Something akin to Opardu or Jour, but both of those fell short with me. The dry down is lovely and stays close to the body, but indeed stays. I believe there is musk and tonka.
Now, I am going to throw out two names, neither are similar to Knot but both are well composed and not confusing. First by VA and Jean Scherrer. No left turns and no odd ingredient that must be endured or ignored. (Yes, rhubarb, I’m looking at you. )
The end product is beautiful and consistent with what you should expect from the label.
It evolves beautifully. I think it is a day- maker and an esteem builder and that dear little lit-from-within golden bottle deserves a place of honor on any vanity, even if it were filled with Tang. I hope this helped, but I do go on…..sorry.
Wow – you gave me a lot to chew on. Thanks!
Scent of the day is Thirdman Eau Nomade, not a very good perfume, rather average and a bit too simplified.
It’s been raining half day so I’m sitting all day at home, doing some random stuff. And I can’t wait for my trip to Florence. Just 11 more days before I fly there. Looking forward to trying the new perfumes and discovering the older ones I don’t know yet.
Florence is wonderful. Have you been there before? Hopefully you will have time to see some of the sights.
No, it’s the first time when I’ll be going there.
Pitti! How exciting, my dear! My brother and sister-in-law will be spending a month in Italy and they will be in Florence for a few days. My sister will stay with them for a week in Rome at an apartment they are renting.
I’m ultra happy about the trip. And how great that some of your family will spend a month in Italy with a longer stay in Rome. I’m sure they will enjoy their vacation.
This is so wonderful, the perfumes and everything around.
Yes, the perfumes, the places, sights and people 🙂
Not to mention the food, wine and gelato. 🙂
I will definitely have some of those
Oh, I like Eau Nomade. It’s simple, but nice on a hot day, and it’s the only thing I’ve tried so far with an aquatic note (that I assume helps the citrus to stick around) that doesn’t make me grind my teeth after a couple of hours.
I really envy your trip to Florence. I hope you’ll get a chance to see a lot of the city, in addition to the perfume event.
I will try to have both perfume and sighseeing experience. I guess the second one mostly in the afternoons/evenings.
Florence is truly lovely. So much to see and it has the warmest, most welcoming, attitude. You might want to visit a small perfumery house called Aqua Flor on the Borgo Santa Croce that is really beautiful. It looks like an old apothecary in the extremely old fashioned and elegant way – leather chairs in the center of the first room, glass jars and scents set up all the way around (with descriptions) for you to try. You can even get your own scent made (far too expensive for my budget.) Their website is not much for descriptions but they do have a pamphlet for you to keep with the perfume names and main notes.
I’m wearing, and as always enjoying, Dune today.
Excited to try a few new scents on my errand run in the city!
If you’re in NY a few of us are getting together Tues if you would like to join us. My yahoo address is my screen name
Thank you! It would be so fun to meet some NYC perfume lovers 😉
Yum, I love dune. I never see the vintage bottles in antique malls, so I’ve been living off some generously sent samples.
I’ve been staring at a shopping cart of blind buys since last night and it’s all y’all’s fault! I do not need 7 bottles of perfume no matter how cheap they are or how much they’ve been raved about. My logical brain says don’t buy but the fun brain says just do it. Sigh. I will probably give into the fun brain as it likes an element of surprise, but hopefully not 7 bottles worth. My bank account does not like fun brain!
I’m looking at Rive Gauche, Angel Innocent, Alien Absolue, Burberry Brit EDT and Brit Sheer (Brit EDP is an old love but I don’t wear it much), RL Safari, and a mini Silences PdT… and a couple others that go in the basket and out again (Champs Elysees, Jardines Bagetelle, L’Heure Bleu EDP, original Angel ETD or EDP etc.)
On the pricier side (and thoroughly tested), I’m eying (but not shopping) Mon Preciuex Nectar, Amouage Beloved, Del Rae Amoureuse along with SL Fille de Berlin.
It’s going to be a long weekend…
Please don’t do it! No matter how many other people rave about something, it doesn’t mean you will love it. I have had very poor luck with blind buys, other than vintage stuff. I have seldom found a vintage perfume that I did not like.
Do try to find samples somewhere. Unless the perfume is discontinued and nearly out of stock, it will still be there after you have bought and tested the sample and made up your mind. I know from experience that unloved bottles produce a lot of guilt, whereas unloved samples do not. Unloved blind buy bottles = wasted $$$ whereas unloved blind buy samples = educational expenses.
I think I agree… and that’s from someone who adores Silences pdt and Safari.
Some of my early purchases became uninteresting as my nose developed, and wound up scenting linens or getting traded off/gifted to friends. On the other hand, some of my very favorites were early blind buys: 1999 Ines de la Fressange, for example, plus L’Arte di Gucci and Silences. So. Yeah, sample.
“as my nose developed” – so true!
Stuff I bought just a year ago I’ve changed towards. Samples and decants are the way to go.
So far, so good. I have not caved. I may go for the Silences PdT. I have a bottle of Silences (love!) so I can justify that one. And, it’s a mini so it won’t break the bank.
I’m thinking about blind-buying Silences. I’ve seen it for 22€ for a 100ml. Is that a good price? It seems very cheap to me but it’s on a reliable discount site.
I say SLOW DOWN! A lot of what’s in your cart you can come by in the future or get decants. I totally and completely understand your urge to sniff. Wait until there is a swap event and stock up on swap supplies, and then get samples or decants of all the ones you have in your cart. There is plenty of time to catch up. … If you ditch all the “bargain” ones, you can totally afford to get one of the more expensive ones that are harder to get. A ton of frag hags have most of your list that you could do swaps for. Get the Beloved if you must do anything!!
I have to second Beloved – it’s fabulous and there are amazing discounts now.
I would definitely get that mini of Silences PdT! I’d look for samples or minis of the others before spending on FBs.
It’s tempting to buy bottles because they are cheap, but they do add up. One day you realize you’re not wearing most of them and could have had Fille de Berlin or Beloved instead. 🙁
I’m holding out on Beloved until I drain my decant….won’t be to much longer.
I second getting a sample of anything that’s not a mini. My Perfume Samples has a lot of samples of cheaper frags, and has some Labor Day discounts. (Not affiliated, just someone who succumbed to a free shipping offer this weekend.) Some of the discounters (Fragrancenet, fragrancex) also sell some carded samples. I still wind up spending more than I should, but $2 or $3 wasted on something I don’t care for is easier to swallow than $20 or $30.
Wearing Atelier Trefle Pur today. Will see how long it lasts on my peregrinations.
Oh my GOSH! what a great word! this is such an educational blog, not only about perfumes, but I am improving my language skills as well! Its WIN/WIN all the way- had to go look up “peregrinations.”
I’m a sucker for words 🙂
Happy to contribute — I am so glad I got the word right! Alas, Trefle Pur got tired before I did today. Orange Sanguine has a little more oomph, I find.
It has the same root as the Peregrine Falcon’s name. Many, but not all, of their populations are long-distance migrants that follow waterfowl and shorebirds on their migrations. Bird nerd and word nerd here 🙂
“Baudruchage” was a new one for me recently (someone uswd it on NST, and I had to look it up).
Had to go look that up as well….made me immediately think of sausage casings!
La Petite Robe Noire, edT. It´s not unpleasant, but I wish it had more personality. If it´s cherries I´m craving, I find Rahat Loukoum and Lolita Lempicka way more satisfying.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine
This is two days in a row…wore it as I was running errands with my mom who is a scent-phobe…she did not complain one bit with this one 🙂
I am looking for Rome perfumer shop recommendations. My brother and sister-in-law decided that going forward, they will take annual month-long vacations outside of the U.S. and rent an apartment for the duration. This year, their destination is Rome, with planned side trips to Venice (well, they will start in Venice and stay there for a few days before heading to Rome), Florence and who knows where else. One of my sisters made a last minute decision to join them and stay at their Rome apartment for a week. I may ask her to mule back a bottle or two 😉
Yesterday, I had an unusually successful samples procuring sniffa at Saks. My haul:
1) Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt – given with a smile
2) Diptyque Geranium Odorata- the SA did not have any vials on hand band agreed to fill my 3 mL atomizer. I carry them in a tiny hard plastic case tucked away in my backpack for occasions like this
3) Tom Ford Costa Azzurra – I did not like this on paper…I preferred the Mandarino di Amalfi; I asked for a sample of the Mandarino and the SA snarkily said too bad she did not have any samples of this but ha ha she has samples of the Costa Azzurra. Being a samples junkie, I asked for the Costa Azzurrra and was reluctantly given a generous sample.
4) By Kilian Rose Oud – SA was nice. He showed me the Addictive State of Mind line and they all smelled yucky to me.
I tried My Burberry and told the SA that it underwhelmed me. It was flat, indistinct, common and boring. He thanked me for being honest 😉
Too funny. I scored at Saks last week 😉 Got the new Jo Malone sans a smile, and a Guerlain!
I prefer the Mandarino as well.
I find By Killian always generous with samples.
Enjoy!
Interesting that the Burberry SA thanked you for being honest. Did you get the feeling that he was actually interested in the data, or being smooth?
I think he probably heard something similar from other people.
Poor guy!
Awww samples! When I bought my fragrances a few weeks ago (Blackberry and Bay and Cristalle) at Neimans, the SA were very generous. I did get a generous sample of Tom Ford’s Mandarino – nice fragrance, a handful of Chanel samples and of course a whole bunch of Jo Malone samples. I guess its because I am a frequent NM shopper that they are so generous with their samples.
And by the way, Orange Sanguine has become one of my favorite scents! You smell magnificent!
Thank you 🙂
I frequent Nordstrom and receive a lot of samples although since my Nordstrom is not one of the special stores, the majority of my samples are mainstream. Just this morning, I dropped off a whole bunch of stuff at a local church’s thrift store, including almost 100 of carded samples and about 20 orphan Nordstrom atomizers that had gotten separated from their labels!
SOTD is Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille on one of the few remaining warm, breezy and sunny summer days we’ll have here in Michigan. I was chatting with a lovely lady from whom I may be purchasing a bottle of perfume and of course, we got to talking about favorites. She mentioned that she heard SDV has been reformulated. I’ve gone through a 30ml decant, 1 full bottle, and have two partial bottles (one of which is mostly full) and all of these have smelled the same. I’d guess their age to be around three or four years old, approximately.
So does anyone know if the formula’s been changed? She mentioned something about the tobacco notes no longer being there and I almost panicked. Not that I’m running out soon, but I hate to think something so pricy won’t be as beautiful as it always was and I don’t have any stores anywhere close where I can test the latest version before I buy it when I do run out in the future. Any thoughts or info would be great as I type wrapped in this boozy cloud of vanilla deliciousness that I hope hasn’t been ruined.
As an aside, I actually got my first reality check on how serious the perfume crack down has become in public spaces. Generally I hate doctor visits and commonly wear something I find relaxing to help settle my nerves before I go. When I got a pre-recorded reminder message, the instructions specifically asked that I not wear perfume or scented body products!
While I did my best to oblige with unscented Cerave lotion, I did dab on a bit of Chloe L’Eau both because it vanishes so quickly especially on hot days and because it makes me feel confident. By the time I arrived, it was barely there and not even DH could smell it.
However, when I left my appointment and walked through the waiting room, it smelled like a Bath and Body Works bomb exploded in there and you could almost taste the scent in the back of your throat. Huge, encapsulating, wall to wall fruity musky sillage that clung to us even several steps down the hall and out of the office.
It was then I realized what is making it difficult for those of us who try to choose “public” perfumes with at least a bit of consideration rather than those who apparently dump an entire bottle of body splash over themselves before entering small spaces. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll all but take a bath in my favorite perfume in the privacy of my own home, especially if it is a comfort scent on a bad day or a beloved bedtime scent. But if moderation is going out the window, then so will our fragrance loving rights even more so than what IFRA’s doing. Le sigh.
I try to be discreet in public. Tastes differ so much – it quickly becomes apparent from the comments on perfume blogs that one person’s Holy Grail is another’s scrubber. Also, some perfume ingredients smell very different to different people, and some people are hyperosmic to musks and woody ambers.
I also don’t want to impose perfume on people who have to be close to me, like dentists and doctors. It doesn’t seem fair, since they have no escape. I generally don’t wear perfume when I go to a medical appointment, the gym, Pilates, etc.
you know, common sense has really gone out the window.
Up until recently, I have always worked in a hospital in a clinical setting- that really has been my whole career. I never wore perfume to work due to chronic lungers and patients on vents and due to general principal. There were “regulations” about scent at every hospital I have worked in. OK. No Problemo. Capisce. common sense.
so THEN, due to “complaints” about “odors” the hospital put up, throughout the entire facility, wall mounted automatic scent dispensers.
I don’t know what those dispensers dispensed, but it was Nuclear. Immediate problems with migraines, HA, asthma, etc from staff. Management refused to discuss it. So CRAZY! even visitors were complaining.
People don’t think twice about dumping a ton of highly fragranced stuff into their washers and dryers. They don’t think about all highly fragranced body products and shampoos. Chemical candles are lit left right and center. People are spritzing Febreeze on everything. And let’s not even mention that our water system does not filter any of these chemicals OUT.
Every time you ingest water, you are taking in these chemicals. I don’t think PERFUME is the problem. I think it’s all the other fragranced crapola people overuse that is the problem and the reason for the uptick in all the Fragrance “sensitivities.”
ok, I am stepping down from my soap-box now.
So true – well said!
high five and a thumbs up
Absolutely spot on!
Let me give you a resounding, “hallelujah, sister!”
Yes, amen!
In my new, newly refinished apartment, I am using only natural products to clean – vinegar, washing soda, steam, and Dr. Bronner’s. I love how easy it is to smell my scents when I wear them but also just how easy it is to breathe in here! Every time I go out I smell someone doused in Flowerbomb or Angel and I think, “oh dear, that’s what the public think it smells like to wear perfume.”
I agree with you. In some cases, though, perfumes, lotions, deodorant can interfere with whatever test you may be having, e.g. a mammogram.
SOTD Amazone eau Legere – perfect for this muggy day.
I love Amazone! I have a vintage edt, and it is just lovely.
I was reading in a distracted way and initially jumped to the conclusion that Amazon had done a perfume! I was relieved to realize that’s not the case, but it’s only a matter of time…
I love Amazone but always wish it was as bold as its name.
My vintage one is pretty soft, green, and very summery/natural. It smells like a “sweet meadow” if you know what I mean. It is not mythical or bold in any sense.
The name is a mismatch, isn’t it? I love it as it is but just wish it were stronger.
Anyone smelled the new J.Crew/Arquiste collab yet? Curious to hear what everyone thinks! (To show my hand–I liked 57 a lot but I’m wondering if I was just excessively excited for the small sizes available!)
Yes, those roller balls will get me every time!
Tried both. Ok, not wild about them. I lean more towards 57 too. Need to try them again.
Clearing out old magazines, taking one last look at a February 2014 Washingtonian, I found this surprisingly eclectic list of perfumes by Michelle Thomas and Irina Grechko, who wrote, “This spring, try a little aroma therapy with these new or distinctive women’s fragrances”:
Yosh Ginger Ciao
Carven L’Eau de Toilette
CBIHP At the Beach 1966
VCA Rêve
Jo Malone Rain & Angelica
Elizabeth and James Nirvana White
Marni Rose
Crabtree & Evelyn Sevillian Neroli
L’AP Skin on Skin
Bond No. 9 New York Patchouli
Lubin Figaro (although the photo is L’Eau Neuve)
Molton Brown Mahina
Lanvin Éclat d’Arpège
These are all available at area stores (no affiliation), mostly the usual chains but several I had not heard of, such as Chinoiserie, Redeem and GoodWood. I’m sceptical of almost everything in magazines, but some of these are perfumista favs, and I wonder if these might really have been chosen by the authors, if they were recommended by the stores, or what.
I’m testing Cartier L’Heure Defendu VII. I like the beginning.
I’ve been to Redeem at least, and maybe GoodWood altho I can’t recall now (I got both names from this list, which seems to suggest, alas, that Chinoiserie is now closed? http://your-perfume-guide.blogspot.com/2011/11/washington-dc-usa.html ). Very hip. Marc Maron has a great line about, you know the hipsters have arrived in your neighborhood when you walk into a store and can’t figure out what they’re selling–Redeem definitely gives that impression 🙂 They did have some fragrances off the beaten track, though if I understood properly, one or both were the kind of place that “curates” new offerings seasonally so anyone looking for something in particular might do well to call ahead.
According to the article, Redeem is on 14th Street, and GoodWood is on U Street near 14th – they must be hip. Apparently, Chinoiserie moved to a different location in Alexandria, on King Street.
By the way, Alexandria was having huge sales earlier in August; if they are rotating their “curated stock,” maybe last season’s perfumes are on sale? 😉
I love your Marc Maron line, LOL!
I love Marc Maron!
Hi NST!Feeling guilty for not checking in regularly here, but I have been having soooooo much fun over on Facebook with some fellow Perfumistas! And some familiar NST names!!lol!I’m a complete Facebook newbie, having been against it for a long long time. But my brother lives in Australia, and some friends in the US,so it’s a good way too stay in touch.SOTD was Cristobal by Balenciaga.Have forgotten how much I love this one!Lush, but soft floral,a comfort scent during these last few days of our winter!Enjoy your long weekend USA!Johanob
*to stay in touch…English 2nd language…lol.
And the ranks of the Facebook holdouts continue to dwindle. My sister and I are the last two in my extended family.
Wearing Cologne Thierry Mugler, which makes me smell like a giant bar of Ivory Soap.
Starts to annoy me, rather than charm me, after a while.
But I had lots of errands, and a barbecue to attend today, and I have NEVER received so many compliments and requests to know what I was wearing.
I guess it smells good on me, but not to me.
Possible future poll question? 😉
Bear, I am reminded of Joe saying that SNM Melograno smelled like 100 bars of Ivory soap to him. That’s not what it smells like to me; I get some soapiness but it’s subtle. I wonder if there’s a particular Ivory soap musk note to which some are hyperosmic.
I like your poll idea!
Hello NozKnoz!
That could be, this started out fine and then just grew and grew and GREW.
The possibility that I applied too much exists……………LOL 😀
Thanks!
Ha! Ivory soap is indeed a scent. It’s my husbands, actually, and I love it on him 🙂
Yesterday I tried some vintage Caleche rehomed to me. That one’s a giant bar of soap too…but instead of Ivory, it’s what I imagine a bar of soap at the Georges Cinq would smell like. Got on my nerves too–maybe it’ll fare better in colder weather.
I don’t mind soapy to a degree. In fact, I am in love with a recently discovered drugstore body wash–Caress Daily Silk–which reminds me a bit of the newer version of Chloe. I wish they made a lotion to match the body wash because it’s so pretty.
This morning I began with Mandragore edt, and then let if fade off during the day as I was at a barbeque and well, nothing can overcome the smell of grill smoke and brats. This evening however, I need to get my lady-like back on. I’m wearing Safari.
My comments: yesterday I actually had the wondrous opportunity to briefly visit our local small town Macy’s. I finally got to test the new version of No 5 eau Premiere. Well, it’s not awful, but basically it smells like, now-I-know-what-they-did-with-the-vats of-unused-No-5-Sensual-Elixir. (I was totally bummed they discontinued this product.) If I had a bottle, I wouldn’t be upset, but it is definitly NOT the Eau Premiere we are all used to. They have basically crafted No 5 eau de cologne.
I smell: 1 part thick No 5 edp to trick us at the top that we are all smelling “the classic”; 2 parts No 5 Sensual Elixir to use up their excess stores?; 2 parts original Eau Premiere to get some of the sheer lemony sunshine out of their recipe; 2 parts their own excellent Eau de Cologne (or a copy of the ITB Colonge a la Francaise (see below); 3 parts Infusion d’iris for the drydown.
The opening is rather “present” for about 1 hour, thereafter it drops down completely to drydown stage with no decent middle parts. It is now redone in that style of no-sillage office friendly almost nothings that is the current trend. And I gave myself a whopper of a spray at the counter b/c I really wanted to get a sense of it. The base of the current Eau Premiere basically smells like a faded mixture of the original EP, plus some “colonge”, plus of the kind of dry vanillic woody powdery notes that appear in the drydown of Prada’s Infusion d’Iris….. So I am really disappointed in Chanel for messing with their brilliant, groundbreaking No 5 Eau Premiere, and am glad I have the original supersize bottle in hand.
As an aside re Eau de Cologne: earlier this summer I fell back in love with the Institute Tres Bien Cologne a la Francaise. Anyone who has ever smelled this will completely recognize what has happened to the current Eau Premiere. Now if I want to smell like the drydown of CalF, which is wonderful lemony, light woody, iris, powder, and also has a similar smell to parts of Infusion d’Iris, well, the reformulated No 5 Eau Premiere gets to the same place.
I think I liked the classic bottle 5EP more than you did AnnS, but it was similar enough that I am happy to wear both.
The original is more powdery to me, and the revised closer to N5EDT plus powder.
I have a bottle of the Sensual Elixir that I have never opened, will have to test all three some day.
Bear: I pretty much have every single iteration of No 5 fragrance or product available (blushes), vintage and current, so if a bottle of the new EP came my way, I’d still wear it b/c I’ve just come to love No 5 these past few years. But IMHO it is lacking the depth and radiance of the origianl EP. I’m just disappointed Chanel had to mess with it. Why not put the original recipe in a different bottle? It’s not like the No 5 image was suffering, etc. The Sensual Elixir is very nice once you get used to rubbing the unusual gel No 5 into the skin. It smells a lot like the same of the body cream, lotion, etc. You would be able to sell the Sensual Elixir for a good price on ebay if you don’t like it! I mostly use the SE to layer with the vintage No 5 extrait when the top notes are off. Cheers!
Cheers AnnS!
I have every iteration of Shalimar so I know how THAT goes!
I’ll have to open that SE when the weather gets cooler!
Supposed to be hot and humid for the next 5 days!
Good luck with the test of SE! And yes, Shalimar has creeped in with me too, although much less: vintage edc, extrait, and dusting powder. What a beauty!
I’m reading ‘The Secret of Chanel No. 5-The Intimate History’ and am having an almost unbearable urge to blind buy the extrait/parfum concentration. For those nervous about reading any close inspection of Coco Chanel’s war years antics lest it put you off Chanel altogether–I seem to be weathering my dismay just fine, with no diminishing of my yen for Chanel fragrances.
What do you think of the parfum vesus the edp and edt?
Best not to investigate the history of your favorite perfume companies in general. According to Monsieur Guerlain, during the War Guerlain made a fragrance called ‘Kriss”:
“The perfume reportedly was created for the Nazis and named after a stabbing weapon called “kris”, a dagger with a wavy blade originating from Southeast Asia. This kind of dagger, in a modified form which incorporated several examples of Nazi symbolism, was a standard accessory issued to all members of the elite and greatly-feared SS.”
http://www.monsieur-guerlain.com/2009/03/highlight.html
I wonder if the Kriss had anything to do with Goerring. He lived at the Ritz during the war and apparently on his arrival in the wee small hours of morning he insisted Guerlain open their doors for him so he could get a supply of the perfume he wore, along with his women’s clothes. Maybe they thought such patronage should be acknowledged.
I prefer the vintage parfum to the current (which is easy and inexpensive to get on ebay – used bottles can still be very good – I have 6 of them, 😉 ). Even if the top notes are a little off on a vintage it’s fun to sniff the older ones b/c it’s closer to what Chanel wanted in the first place. Since Chanels are reasonably easy to access for most people even with small town department stores, you may want to just go and sniff some testers. IMHO the edp is closest to the modern extrait at the opening, but has a much different drydown. I think the current edt is the best of the offerings to bring a “classic” experience, even though they are all good. The current edt has an excellent aldehyde-chypre ish quality that is really outstanding. Even the body creme and lotion are very good and can be worn as a fragrance if that’s the No 5 you end up liking the best. I think the edt is tied with the original Eau Premiere as my favorites in the line. All the Chanel No 5s smell the same essentially, but are also all different. It’s a great line to explore and learn. Don’t blind buy the extrait or any of them for that matter!!!! Good luck!
I decided to wear Putain des Palaces today. Hadn’t given her much love in a while so decided to remedy that today.
I went in a discount shop and found some good stuff. I got Gucci Rush and Dior Homme for good prices. They were also selling old testers for cheap. Most were crap but I found a mostly full tester of O de Lancome for $6.50. I also got an Amarige tester for free. It was marked $2.50 but they just gave it to me. It didn’t have a lot in it but I figured I could combine it with the mini I already have.
Wow, great finds!
Oooh, you’re in Houston, right? Which shop, if I may ask?
Coumarin and ScentFromAbove, do either of you ever go to Harwin? There are a bunch of discount perfume shops on Harwin between Hilllcroft and Gessner. The one I went to was just called Discount Perfumes. It’s close to Hillcroft in a shopping center on the south side of the street
I used to get my mom’s Sur la Nil in Harwin before I discovered online discounters.
It’s been years since I have been out to Harwin. I will have to check them out. Thanks for the tip!
Yes, please share with your fellow Houstonians what discount shop you are referring to. 🙂
Good afternoon fume-heads. I am having an identity crisis here. The majority of my collection lives in the woody/oriental half of the fragrance wheel. My usual day-to-day fragrances are Habit Rouge, Fahrenheit, Avignon and CDG2. And for night time/special occasion i have Black Afgano, CDG Tar, Bvlgari Black, Smell Bent Leathery and recently acquired Lolita Lempicka l’eau au masculin.
But in the past couple of weeks I have found myself feeling overwhelmed and almost smothered by favourite smell-babies.
“I need something different?”
Is there something wrong with me? I want to burst out of my musty, skanky closet into the daylight. But I am scared of fresh and watery fragrances. And i fear that anything with a melon accord will burn my skin like holy water.
Has anyone out there found a way out of the darkness?
Contrast is needed. There are many great scents that are in a different register from your current favs without being boring or aquatic. Have you tried vetivers, for example? I especially like Annick Goutal and Guerlain Vetivers.
I’m thinking randomly of Hermes, Heeley, Parfumerie Generale and Kenzo as lines to sample. Terre d’Hermes, Equipage, Bel Ami, Eau d’Orange Verte; Heeley Verveine; Kenzo pour Homme and KenzoAir. I’m a bit behind on PG but Indochine is a nice one. Also Annick Goutal Eau du Sud.
Have fun!
Thanks Noz, I do like vetiver and have a half full bottle of Guerlain Vetiver at the back of my medicine cupboard. It is a beautiful scent, but not a perfect fit for me. I live in New Zealand with very limited access to good stuff (we just got our first Jo Malone counter last month!) So i will look for some Annick Goutal on the Interwebs. And my partner used to wear KenzoAir, what a wonderful bottle. I know that our closest department store carries Hermes, so I will pay them a visit and let you know how I get on.
Hermes is a great brand – looking forward to hearing about your spring and summer scent adventures!
Hermes’ Epice Marine might be good bridge from your dark to sheerer fragrances. I love it (but sadly used up my sample ages ago!)
Go start with Annick Goutal. If she can’t drag you out of the cave and into the sunlight and great flora of the world, then you are a lost cause. Just kidding. But start with Goutal. There are tons to pick from and the house is a master of fragrances that smell of nature. She only has one ozone like fragrance – un matin d’orage – so there are lots others to select.
A one house wonder is also Fleurs de Sel by Miller Harris.
Hi Ann, wow i just googled Fleur de Sel and I am very intrigued. I like the sound of salty/herbal. I think that as i am used to meaty fragrances that go on and on like a neverending foghorn, and I am worried that anything else will be like a fragile crystal blossom in a bell jar.
As i mentioned to Noz above, I will be hunting down Annick asap. I have not tried any of her work yet.
FdS is really wonderful. It smells like wind-whipped hills with herbs, and earthy notes and just a tad bit of salt. I hope you enjoy it and also testing AGs. Good luck!
Get thee to Barneys and try the Hylands fragrances and Noble Isle body products. Why not tarry in the forests, heather and fjords (with a nice Scotch) before you make a beeline into the ocean?
On a totally different note, I wore Enlevement au Surail out to a friend’s birthday party. Haven’t worn this in a while and it’s just so darn good! I’m really saddened that it was discontinued and was lucky enough to score a partial bottle a while ago. Can anyone recommend something similar?
I think I’ve read of similarities with Histoires de Parfums 1969 and Chanel 31 Rue de Cambon, which are worth trying anyway.
Which reminds me, I’ve been neglecting 1969 – I think I’ve found my SOTD. 🙂
Good suggestions. I’ve tried 31 Rue Cambon in the past, but not 1969. Sample time!
My discontinued beauty is Trigère. The only thing I’ve found that reminds me of its grassy green is Annick Goutal Petite Cherie edt, which was delightful but didn’t stick around long enough to be worth buying for me. Can anyone tell me if the Petite Cherie edp differs much from the edt, and if it has decent longevity?
Madame Jolie is fast disappearing from the stores in my area. Unfortunately I cannot locate a place with a tester. I’m considering a blind buy, but since I only really love maybe one out of every 15 perfumes I expect to love, a blind buy just sounds kind of dumb! Opinions?
Since your success rate with new ‘fumes is so low, how about a sample from Surrender to Chance or another sample site first?
I would have to order from overseas (since we do not have sampling countries in South Africa) and then wait and hope, etc etc…
Apparently its about $30 so I MAY take the risk…
Merlin I often use Surrender to Chance and have never had a problem. The shipping isn’t too much either.
I am off to a Blues picnic today and my SOTD is Tom Ford’s Mandarino di Amalfi.
That’s a nice one. I just recently got a sample of Mandarino and I am enjoying it! You smell fantastic!
If there are any NYC fumies that would like to meet a small group of us are getting together Tues night. My screen name is my yahoo address
My SOTD for Sunday is AC Mistral Patchouli. I went ahead and ordered the three piece L’Artisan coffret so I can now use up my Timbuktu sample anxiety free.
I wanted to spend a nice, quiet day at home today and just be lazy. So, I got up this morning, and took a shower with some Satsuma body wash from The Body Shop. I wanted to keep the “orange” theme going, so my SOTD is Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine. I wanted a fragrance that makes a statement, but isn’t overwhelming. Perfect fragrance for a summer’s day. I love 3-day weekends!
I was away this weekend with very limited internet access. I wore La Promesse de l’Aube on Saturday and am wearing Tubéreuse Capricieuse today. It’s quite nice but I (fortunately) do not feel the need for a full bottle.
Applied the last of a Habit Rouge sample this morning, but sadly now can no longer smell it. Silver lining? I can go rummage for another SOTD 🙂
Oh no! When did No. 5 Eau Premiere get reformulated? I have a couple decants and meant to grab an fb at some point, but if it’s been “tinkered with” recently, that definitely puts a rush on things.
Sorry. This was supposed to be farther back as a reply to the No. 5/Eau Premiere discussion. I didn’t think to check when I had to sign back in to reply. 😉
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and a Happy Labor Day to the fellow US NSTers.
