British niche line Ormonde Jayne has launched Black Gold, a new luxury fragrance exclusive to Harrods. The fragrance focuses on quality ingredients; per brand founder Linda Pilkington,
Finding a quality of sandalwood 20 classes better than other sandalwoods, and that voyage was the lengthiest but the most enjoyable aspect in the creation of Black Gold. Each ingredient was extensively researched and the final perfume was a labour of love.
Black Gold features notes of bergamot, lemon, mandarine, clary sage, juniper berry, orchids, rose, water lilies, jasmine, carnation, oud, pink pepper, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, vanilla, labdanum, moss, musk, cedar, ambrette seed and amber.
Ormonde Jayne Black Gold is £420 for 125 ml Extrait.

Update ~ the description at Harrods: "Black Gold is intensely constructed, a masterpiece of sultry, refined and cultivated nuances. Its immediate and unique appeal is entirely devoted to being fearless and cool and is provocative enough to tempt one into forbidden waters."
I think I’d like to sniff this labor of love.
I might as well not, I’ll never own it 🙂
Not exactly in my current budget, even though I do love sandalwood. Someday I’ll get myself to London to sniff various Harrod’s exclusives
Goodness, didn’t see the price tag, not in my budget either.
Not in my current budget either!
It’s in Courtney Love’s budget. I hope she enjoys her exclusive fragrance cuz we ain’t buying it.
I haven’t done the math but it looks like almost twice the price of the Four Corners of the Earth (World?) line. I hate limited editions and I hate aspirational pricing. I am also adding Harrods to the hate list (been there twice, did not enjoy the crowds nor the garrish lighting).
“Black Gold: for women with silly amounts of money”…
Or Black Gold: For silly women with money 🙂
Shouldn’t a perfume called Black Gold smell like gasoline, or maybe hot tar? (“Black gold, Texas tea….”)
It is glorious. Spicy, velvety and beautiful. It makes my heart cry at the price though.
But it is beautiful.
My sample of this came in from STC, and I have to say, Meh. I love sandalwood, clary sage and jasmine. . .but I get a muddled citrus woody mix that is pleasant, and has the OJ house base (whatever is in Isfarkand, OJ Man & Woman and Orris Noir’s base) but I’m not transported. Certainly not £420 transported! I was more impressed by my sample of Masque’s Terralba yesterday FWIW. Happy sniffing 😀
Thanks so much for the review….was planning to skip it, now i feel justified. (The house base is mostly iso e super, I think)
