What's your fragrance today? I'm finishing up a review at the moment and am testing a few other things as well, so I'll share last night's bedtime fragrance instead: Aftelier Ancient Resins, developed for Leonard Cohen. I keep my bottle on my bedside table.
Reminder: tomorrow, we'll try our first coordinated / community scent of the day. Please try to think of your favorite fragrance note (or one of them, if you can't narrow down), wear your favorite fragrance that features that note, and tell us about it! If that doesn't work for you for whatever reason, no worries, chime in anyway. The following Friday, June 6, let's all try to wear something by Chanel.

I’m wearing Estee Lauder Sensuous to take advantage of the cool, rainy day. (Last night was The Body Shop Chocomania shower gel, body oil and EDT all.)
I’m so torn about which note to pick tomorrow!
Hey, just pick one and don’t sweat it….we can do this again sometime!
The sensuous trio gets so much love – I think I need to try them all again.
Sensuous Noir is stunning. It is definitely a head-turner.
My SOTD is Tom Ford’s Santal Blush. One of my new favorite scents.
That’s a nice one 🙂
Agreed! That’s the first on my list to buy if I win the lottery this week!
Happy Thurs! I’m wearing Bottega Veneta eau Legere today b/c it is just too D@#^ cool and damp up here in the still under a polor vortex Poconos for anything but warm and cozy. If it gets to 50 degrees today, it will be a miracle. What I like esp. about the BV eau Legere is that it wears so close to the body that I can really enjoy spraying it on, unlike other orientals/chypres that need a gentle hand.
Chilly here too, but I think we might hit 60. We’ll see. No sun though.
And of course you smell great!
Thank you! I think the Bottega Veneta line is one of the best “new” releases done in years. I’m glad it works with my chemistry. It seems like some of the houses are picking up their game. I didn’t care for the newest BV one – too lemony for me – made me think they are trying to complete with Jour d’Hermes. But still good.
I’m just finding out about that Tom Ford Velvet Orchid…any chance there’s a review coming soon?
Well, probably eventually, but not soon…no sample yet!
I just got a sample of DelRae Wit… wore it last night and this morning, and I’m trying to resist ordering a bottle online right now.
Ah, isn’t that lovely??
I am so enamored with the Daphne blooming in my neighborhood. If it is truly bottled, I don’t know how you could resist!
I couldn’t decide what outfit to wear today, and then had the same experience when picking out my SOTD. Ended up with Balenciaga Paris, which I usually love. Today it’s feeling a little sweet – wish I had gone with Bvlgari Omnia. Does any one else ever have SOTD regrets?
Definitely — that happened to me a lot when I worked in an office and was stuck with my choice no matter what. Now I work from home so I can always scrub and start over or layer something new on top if I’m not happy with my first choice.
All the time!
I do!Some days it’s my habit of overspraying that I really regret. My first outing with Portrait of a Lady(which I adore!!!)comes to mind first!
Yes! Today especially, I am regretting my choice. Not home, so I can’t start over, but I can slather on the sunblock and minimize the original scent.
We have wonderful sunny weather right now, feels like summer. Doubt it’ll last though, start of June is usually a bit chilly. SOTD Encense Mythique d’Orient. For some reason I only wear this in warmer weather unlike Rose Nacree which I think works in winter as well.
Bad memory here…I had to google your perfume! Guerlain, for anyone else who wants to know 🙂
Guerlain Les Deserts d’Orient Encens Mythique d’Orient is quite a mouthful isn’t it, Guerlain do like their long names sometimes 🙂
Curious about that one. Just got a sample of Myrrhe & Delires, which I tested this morning pre-shower. It’s nice, but I suspect not really me. Maybe more of a winter scent.
This one isn’t about incense or myrrh at all like you might expect from the name, but ambergris (the real stuff apparantly). I must say I don’t know any other perfume quite like it.
Rose Nacree d’Orient is a more traditional rose-patchouli-oud scent, very pretty though. (When I looked up the notes I like that Thierry Wassar is honest about that it contains an oud accord and not actual oud).
It was cool when I left the house, so I’m currently wearing Seattle Chocolate which is sort of unwearable in the heat.
Haven’t smelled it, but can imagine. I rarely want a chocolate perfume when it’s hot out.
I love Seattle Chocolate in the winter! It also sounds perfect for cool and rainy spring days 🙂 I should find the remainder of my sample and try it, too.
Lovely cool rainy day here and on such days I crave either violet or iris fragrances. My choice today is Atelier’s beautiful Sous le Toit de Paris.
Wish people would stop wearing that, it keeps reminding me I want a bottle 🙂
You NEED a bottle, Robin 🙂
Truly, I don’t need a bottle of anything! I have too much already. But that’s a darned pretty scent.
SOTD is Chanel Cuir de Russie. I got a sample, and first try, I was a little disappointed. Maybe I just like the idea of leather and not the actual smell? A month or two later, decided to give it another try, and I like it! It is intriguing, and I keep wanting to smell my wrist. Also long lasting (I sprayed it last night and could still smell on my wrist this morning). The dry down is great, so I decided to wear it today as well. Enjoying immensely on this cool humid grey day.
Oh good!
Yes, Happy Thursday! Week is just speeding past with having had Monday off…
SOTD for me is BV edp and I thought the same thing as AnnS with NY temps being low 50s! Although this fragrance I love so much I wear it year round.
The eau legere is very nice too!
Snap, floragal! and Half-snap AnnS!
Matching the beautiful sunny day with Hedonist! Feeling cheerful and bright 🙂
Nice!
I’m in Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris
You smell great, of course!
I’m still not committed, but I’m thinking a dab of Iris Silver Mist. I actually prefer this one in the heat and have recently found it almost… sexy? I’m working late and it won’t last, of course, but I may be fine with that.
Yum…
It’s hot and I have a doctor’s appt later, so I picked something cool and quiet: Vetiver Extraordinaire. Honestly, it’s way too quiet for my tastes; wish I could turn up the volume.
I *really* want that one in the body cream. Haven’t even looked to see if they make it because I wouldn’t pay for it anyway, but the soap, which I got as a gift, is incredible — one of most heavily scented soaps I’ve ever had.
Ooh, I bet it’s fab in the soap. What I like about the perfume is that it’s somehow both sweaty and elegant.
The soap is so strong you can use it to scent a sweater drawer or a whole closet. It’s sort of amazing. And the scent lasts for YEARS. It’s ridiculously expensive though.
I need that soap!
SOTD: Fleur du Male (Gualtier)
A classic 🙂
Went with Love, Chloe this morning from my tiny splash bottle. I like the honey pepper freshness, but it does get a bit…how do you say… relentless at
times.
Have a long day ahead so wanted something that will stick with me.
That’s a great bedtime scent for me.
Diptyque Do Son,bought from my perfume-bestie Merlin!!:-)
Oh…lol. So it happens AGAIN!Get confused with 2 Diptyques All THE TIME!!SOTD is actually Tam Dao…;-)
Yipee, want to hear how you are liking it! I wish we could buy the travel refills of the Diptyques here in SA, then we could form a group and each end up with different 12ml Diptyque scents. That being said – Malle travel refills would be even nicer:)
Yes Please!Want both brands in travel sizes! The Sandalwood-Rose combo in Tam Dao is really nice!;-)
Oh, I love Leonard Cohen! Great songs. Great poetry.
I do NOT love the Coach Poppy that I am sampling today. The strong artificial cucumber note mixed with a Fancy vibe is just wrong. They say that each day you shoul try one thing that scares you. I’m set for the day.
Ha…that made me choke on my tea! (the try one thing that scares you, not the Leonard Cohen — yes, he’s brilliant).
Love the notion of a Fancy vibe – or Fancy Accord…
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Silver Iris
I have a rule that i will not wear a new to me perfume on a day I’ll be leaving the house for the whole day; given this, I don’t ever recall regretting my choices.
In keeping with the fact that spring finally seems to have sprung in the mountains, I’m wearing Annick Goutal’s lovely and oh-so-springlike Folavril today. Makes me feel young.
SoTD is Azemour. Trying to channel warmth and spring in an office with relentless air conditioning. It must by 60 degrees inside.
Nu_Be’s Carbon today. Someone said it smells like pencil shavings and it does, with a big dollop of pepper and ginger. It’s a tiny bit too masculine for me, I think, but I love the ginger note and that’s why I tried it.
I was trying to decide whether to read or clean out the back bedroom but then I saw Leonard Cohen’s picture so I’ll put on one of his CDs and do the bedroom.
What do you think of the Nu_Bes? I got the sample set and have tried several but none has wowed me so far..
SOTD is Tauer Ingrid. Just got a decant in a swap. I like it. Tauers can be very hit-or-miss for me because of something he uses in some of his bases that can overwhelm on me. This one doesn’t seem to have that, so it’s all good.
SOTD is Dzing! It is a public holiday in Norway, and I have spent it on the beach with my family. Nice and warm here. Summer has arrived.
Love Dzing! – happy holiday!
SOTD: An Olive Oil obscure blend, no name…nice, soothing on a cloudy, rainy day.
COMMUNITY SCENT: ROSE
I have to have to have to sample Ancient Resins. But at the same time its probably better I don’t. It’s difficult wearing 1000 Kisses Deep because I have bits and pieces from the track running through my head all day, ‘the ponies run, the girls are young, the odds are there to beat…’
Perhaps AR would work though because it doesn’t reference a particular song – as far as I know.
SOTD: Inspired by a layering article on Bois de J, I am wearing Halston Z-14 layered with Tea Rose!
Got off work early, so now I’m wearing Iris Ganache which is just too big to wear to work tomorrow for the favorite perfume of a favorite note poll (so sad). Might go sampling before going to a lecture tonight
I spent yet another day wrapped in a close layer of Carnal Flower, then this afternoon, I switched to an old sample of “Intimate Type” from Dawn Spencer Horowitz. It’s very nice, but doesn’t remind me of the discontinued vintage Revlon Intimate of my youth. I looked on her site, and it’s not even listed any more. I also own a bottle of the inexpensive reformulated Intimate produced by Jean Phillip, which I use as a bathroom spray. Maybe one day I will take a chance and buy a vintage bottle on Etsy.
On my inner elbows, I decided to re-test my Etro Musk sample. It’s a pleasant, clean musk, not really soapy. I own Etro Paisley and have samples of 4 or 5 other scents by them. The trouble is, they are all rather similar. These are probably good scents for the office, and most feel comforting to me. They must have a common ingredient.
Personally, I think Gomma stands out:) But I agree that none are sillage monsters and all are rather respectable.
I agree with Merlin on Gomma and also especially like Shaal Nur and Palais Jamais from around 2008. Don’t know how they are today, though. The others I tried were less interesting.
I’m wearing Brun sicilien by Scent on Canvas. It’s a lovely leather, freshened by white flowers and citrus, resulting in a leather which can be worn in summer. This is my second time and I’m beginning to love it,
Guess I will ask again, anyone tried any scents from Bissoumine? Curious about this line
Coach Poppy is cruddy….it’s at Kohls now too…so..ya, downward spiral, lol.
I saw a tester today at Target, right next to Beyonce Rise.
SOTD Coeur de Vetiver Sacre. It was chilly this morning…
I’m wearing CdG 2 Man and loving it. It’s now dried down to a hushed sweet mix of iris, smoke and woods.
Today, I wore Jour d’Hermes Absolu. I love it, and was absolutely over the moon that I got a 12.5 ml (!) mini from Hermes yesterday. It was the best day ever since the SA also made me a sample of Caleche extrait too. 🙂
It was a cool and drizzly here today, and it felt like the Jour absolu would be better suited for a little more heat but delightful anyways…
I have to try that Caleche extrait. Kelly Caleche EDP is one of my favorite perfumes!
I’ll warn you…Caleche and Kelly Caleche couldn’t be more different! Both lovely, but the name is the only similarity
SOTD was Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille. I only have a sample of this one. I want more. I think I’m in love. I’ve worn it before but today it really bloomed on me.
Love SDV so much. I wish I had more too.
Started out with Nuit de Tubereuse which I always forget I like and am ending the day doused in Tropic of Capricorn. I really need a FB before I completely drain my sample.
I just put on some SL Vitriol d’oeillet because of Robin’s review of the new Aedes carnation. Vd’o is very unisex.
SOTD is Histoires de (des? I really should learn French someday) Parfums 1804 (George Sand). I just got a decant in a swap. It went on BIG, which surprised me, but calmed down beautifully. The pineapple opening says summer nights to me. I’m a little afraid it might attract bees worn outdoors in the afternoon.
Ended up wearing Fancy Nights ,which is a nice enough patchouli amber . But it doesn’t project as long as I’d like it to. Humid ,warm and off and on rainy here in Alabama . I’ll probably wear Burberry Brit Sheer for a English perfume for the BN synchronized Fridays theme and fave note theme sync for here ( love citrus and roses).
