Irwindale city officials are scheduled to hold a hearing Wednesday night to decide whether to declare a Sriracha hot-sauce plant a public nuisance in the wake of complaints of a spicy odor coming from the factory. The public hearing is the latest move in the city's effort to force sauce maker Huy Fong Foods to address the smell. In November, the city sued the company in Los Angeles Superior Court, winning a temporary, partial shutdown.

I know some people who are so enamored of their Sriracha they say things like, “I want to bathe in it” and “I could live in it!” I like the sauce plenty, but I’m not sure I could handle living in close proximity to the factory–the fumes must be very irritating, especially for babies and small children.
I would think, although they say most of the complaints came from just a few households & they’ve already done smell abatement stuff. We’ll see what happens! I would like one of the “Save Sriracha” t-shirts the supporters were wearing 🙂
The story was covered by NPR this morning, although there were many complaints, several were registered from the same household. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
I love my Sriracha sauce (I put it on everything, really), but I can see how it would be an irritant when the factory is in production mode.
Thanks, missed that on NPR!
If the people working there aren’t complaining……..
🙂
