Think flowers rendered in watercolor — violets touched with carnation and anise — and a soft, slightly melancholy cloud of almond-smelling heliotrope. Perfume fans lament its changes over the years, but the eau de toilette is still lovelier than most of what's available today.

I’m pleased to say that — without having googled “World’s greatest perfumes” or anything like that — I already have seven of the ten on my Sample List…. unfortunately buried under what is approaching three hunderd candidates for “my singnature scent” lol
…and of course, now that I’m reading more closely about ‘vintage’ vesus ‘reformulated’ and EdT vs EdP vs EdC vs Lord-only-knows-what-else… Well, the number of stars in the known Universe is beginning to look not so large afterall.
I’ve spent the weekend surrounded by skanks… of the arouma sort, not the fleshy kind and have added another seventy “must sniffs”.
Robin’s blog of June, 2010 was enlightening ( https://nstperfume.com/2010/06/19/lazy-weekend-poll-skank/ ) but now long in the tooth.
What say you all to another Skank Summit?
I think a re-do of skank is on my “poll ideas” list, I’ll make sure.
Great article! It’s wonderful to see Harpers highlight these classic perfumes, and Alyssa was a great choice to do them justice.
They did a beautiful layout, too. Go Alyssa!
