French niche brand The Different Company has introduced three new fragrances in their L’Esprit Cologne series: South Bay, Kâshân Rose and White Zagora. All were developed by perfumer Émilie Coppermann.
South Bay (above left) ~ "Intensely sparkling, this eau de Toilette unveils a woody architecture behind it’s fres [sic] head notes. The heart is based on the Grapefruit wood which brings backbone to the perfume. A touch of daim in the bottom notes splendidly underlines the Sandalwood." Additional notes include mandarin leaf, tamarind, eglantine rose, freesia and vetiver.
Kâshân Rose (above right) ~ "A surprising fragrance, this floral eau de toilette embodies a Persian Rose, celebrated during a Rose Festival in May in the city of Kashan, the first oasis in the region. The scent comes along with fruity and spice fresh head notes (lychee, cardamom and Rose Berries). The floral heart unveils a sublime Rose which reflects a thousand years know how. The ambrette seed bring altogether a reassuring and enveloping angle. Its softness is widely appreciated in the Far East, land of wisdom." Additional notes include sage, hawthorn, peony, sandalwood and musk.
White Zagora (not shown) ~ "This sensual oriental fragrance is based on an Orange Flower accord and brings us in a land, far far away…The spicy start unveils a round and sensual heart notes combination aroud the Orange Flower et dressed by a duo of Tuberose et Peach Flower. [sic, sic, sic] The amber-musk accord in the bottom notes sustain the sensuous notes of the fragrance." Additional notes include neroli, citrus, bergamot, osmanthus, white musk and amber.
The Different Company South Bay, Kâshân Rose and White Zagora are available in 90 ml Eau de Toilette.
I don’t want to be too academic but do these really fit into the cologne category? A sensual oriental?
I am going to assume it is a very sheer & light sensual oriental.
“The floral heart unveils a sublime Rose which reflects a thousand years know how”
And the crowd chants ..”PRIX EAU FAUX!!, PRIX EAU FAUX!!!” hehehehehe
LOL!
Sienne d’Orange and After Midnight from the same collection from The Different Company were terrible and these three… They don’t sound any better.
I didn’t like any of the original series…After Midnight was the worst!
After reading the notes for South Bay, all I can think of is “There ain’t nothing like a Daim”…
Ha!
Hm. I’m curious about the rose, I guess. I never did get around to even sampling the original four. I think I feel badly for The Different Company, even though their early creations are some of my absolute favorite scents.
Joe, agree completely.
I liked the last batch of colognes – White Zagora sounds up my alley but I’ll be interested to try them all.
Ouch! Fell off a pink cloud of delight 🙁
I was delighted to get news from The Different Company
I was delighted at the idea of three new fragrances
But … (of course there had to be a but – and a butt to fall on)-
Not in my worst nightmared have I imagined they would use such snobbish pretentious drivel to describe what sounds like not-so-different new releases. Whoever wrote that copy deserves a slow and painful … well you know.
Of course I’ll try the new releases. They may be great. They may never break the barrier between human fragrance and exceptionally well done room freshener. In both cases though, if that was their best copy, they may just let the three speak for themselves, directly to fans. For an ad copy to such a revered fragrance house, that was pathetic.
Just reporting that I’m wearing Kashan Rose today and love it. I had no expectations, got a decant from a friend because it was the one about which I was most curious, and have been pleasantly surprised. Not much cardamom detectable. Somewhat creamy; slightly fruity.
Good to know, thanks Joe!
